I dont know why people say the metrial is hard, i thought it was preety easy material but his tests are hard. it looks like he makes tests hard every year,go to class do h/w and study his old exams and you ll get a B or A
Not as good of professor as I thought. Explains material very superficially and makes you responsible for knowing a lot more than what he explains in class. Exams are hard.
He is a very nice professor. He really wants his students to learn. The class is really hard, but not impossible if you study. One of the best professors I've had.
organic chemistry is going to be hard no matter who teaches it...just hope that he doesn't give the ACS exam as a final...it dropped me from a B to a C
I love Chattellier! He was so clear in his teaching, and he has his old tests on reserve in the library. The tests he gives you are in exactly the same format as the old ones. Excellent teacher. If you have the choice, go with him over Wingrave!
Nice guy. Lectures can be very boring or very interesting. I mean who else throws liquid nitrogen around the room during lecture!
Good Professors, definitely take him over Schneider or Zondlo.
Very helpful
Take Zondlo.
No more ACS final exam. Very clear instructor; cuts through the clutter of ochem and lets you see what you need to know. He is not above bad puns or terrible jokes. Takes the sting out of ochem.
After taking Schneider for 322, Chatelier is the prof you want to have, he truly cares
Nice guy. Organic is hard no matter who you have. However, If I had to do it all over again I would choose Dana
Very very fair teacher. Gives the studetns the benfit of the doubt. Regrades a lot of exams where TA screw you out of points. Much much beter then Zonlo.
GO TO OFFICE HOURS! class was really confusing, but office hours helped a lot. can be a little rude, but generally is pretty nice
I highly recommend him if it's your first chemistry class. He makes things clear and gets the point across. Your key to doing well on tests is to copy the old tests on reserve, b/c the format is just the same. He makes chem interesting, and is so helpful.
very good
Take as many Chem courses with this man as possible, and get his old tests for a good grade!!!!!!!!1
Difficult class. Felt I knew what I was doing but the exam proved me wrong every time. DO the practice problems.
He's a nice guy who knows what he's talking about. You really need to keep good notes and study to get a decent grade. Definatly copy old tests from science library to study. Understanding guy.
For those of us who aren't great with math, he makes it so you don't have to rely it on it that much. He tries his best to keep the science interesting and makes sure that you understand the material. Study the old exams.
great professor. take him.
you will ace every test if you get a copy of last year's and go over all the answers and do teh suggested problems.
really wants you to do well and understand the material. Also good at answering questions outside of class.
Hard class. Final sucked....DONT TAKE HIM
Hard teacher. FINAL SUCKED..dont take him
he was a great teacher, i am really bad in chem and i am a fashion major and had to take it. i wouldn't understand him at all during class but would go to office hours and he helped so much. make sure you copy old tests very helpful! final is verrry hard, dont bother studying!!!
He's a nice guy but classes were EXTREMELY boring. Very helpful if you go to him. Even though he gives old tests to study from, tests were impossible. If you do well on your labs then passing the class is easy, but getting an A is not.
Ofcourse the class was hard! It is Chemsitry! I found him to be a very helpful professor. The people that thought he was really hard probably never tried to go to him for help or they wouldn't have given him a bad rating. He knew so much information. Very intelligent professor.
Hard professor, hard class, but the tests are the same as last years. Final is impossible and will bring your grade down. I would not take him again!!
HARD CLASS! Make sure to copy all old tests. He was helpful, but at the same time soooo boring. I wouldn't reccomend taking him if you can get another professor. Final is IMPOSSIBLE, don't even bother trying to study!
Good teacher. Exams are easy - just look at old ones in the library.

This class is really hard (especially for me as a fashion major), but he's such a nice teacher. He massively curves so you can pass with a 50 in the class and he's always there to help. The TA's suck but take either 101 or 102 with him, he's really great. His teaching style is clear, too.

Most Helpful teacher I have had so far.
Class was not as bad as i expected. He was really into the course and so willing to help anyone who made the effort to ask for it. Old exams are in library and are very similar. If you go to class and read about what you don't understand, you can get a C or B.
He is awesome at explaining Chemistry. Always takes the time to go over things thorougly. Definitely use the practice exams - the tests are nearly identical. Curves your final score by almost a whole letter grade. Final was pretty tough tho.
Very great Professor! By far the most helpful I've had so far. Make sure you take this course with him! He's very clear and does everything he can to help you understand concepts.
Really knows his material. I dont think Ive ever had a question he couldnt answer clearly. Tests are moderate. My advice is to do all of the workbook problems that he recommends becaust they will be on the exams. Lab is cake and all you have to do is take maybe 2-3 days out of your week to master the material. Good prof. overall
Tests are very similar to study guides (past exams on reserve), so make sure to study from them. Great professor, always lets out early and does interesting experiments in lecture. Offers a lot of extra credit.
Although it is at an elementary level, CHEM 213 is still very challenging. Professor Chatalier is very helpful and extends his office hours before exams. Attend class and take careful notes. Do the practice problems in the back of the book and go over old exams.
Very good teacher in the sense that he knows what he is talking about and is very lively. Not monotone at all and not boring. His tests are very tricky and he does through in some weird questions, but normally you just really need to study.
He is one of the best science teachers I've ever had. His tests are definitely difficult though...even though they're very similar to his old exams
CHATTY RU KIDDING ME??? BEST TEACHER IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!! if he ever gets fired from UofD he could easily be a comedian. witty, teaches slowly, kind: study old exams...u'll do fine.
chemistry made clear!!! take him!!!
Might be ok for Chem213 but STAY AWAY!!! from for 321. While first 2 exams are not that difficult, third exam was impossible (avg grade a 51). Will not curve the tests and is not that helpful in office hours. Definitely take Schneider if given the choice (I certainly regret not taking his class!!).
The course material is very hard, but Chattelier does a good job at keeping your interest in it. The final exam was nothing like the other tests and was extremely difficult so make sure you work hard at getting good grades on the first 3 exams. He is an extremely fair grader and an overall great guy
He was a very nice teacher and was actually easy to listen to. The class is very difficult and even more difficult to get up at 8am. If you can make it to class, you can probably get at least a C-, but go to class!
i loved this teacher until the last test and the final which were rediculously hard. He taught very well. He is the proffessor to take orgo with. He is very patient and will help you if you need it.
Def. take him. He is very easy. Just attend class and take good notes and you'll have an A. Also pick up the practice tests b/c they are the same as the ones he'll give out. Very good/nice guy and professor. Makes class fun.
Like everyone else said: utilize the practice exams! They ARE the exact same questions only the numbers in the problems change. The final, however, is very hard, nothing like the other exams. But I would recommend taking him, very easy to pass with C or much more.
He has been teaching for so long that he really knows how to explain chemistry. If you need help he'll always be there for you and he can seriously make you understand things.
Great professor. The class is difficult but he does a great job of explaining concepts. Study old exams and write down EVERYTHING he puts on the blackboard and you should do fine. Final is ridiculously hard (class average was a 114/200 with 150 extra creadit points) so don't rely on that to boost your grade. Easy to pull a C, hard for an A.
An amazing professor who really knows his stuff. If you can memorize well and have some understanding of the material, you should do fine.
He is a really good teacher, really helpful just teaches fast. Go to class every day, you're notes is what will get you thru.
You cannot miss a single class or you'll fall way behind
He really makes you understand chemistry. You have to go to class or you miss alot but BUY THE LECTURE NOTES they will help you soooooo much. And always look over the old tests he gives you because it will layout exactly what the test will be like. Very helpful guy and fun demonstrations!
Awsome teacher! I hate Chemistry and he breaks it down and helps you understand. Posts the practice tes5ts online and they are exactly like the actually test. Very organized and approachable.
He is amazing! All his tests are just like the practice tests but with different numbers. His lecture notes use the same examples as the ones he does in class. He uses projectors and gives you time to copy down the information he writes. Definitely take him if you can.
really good teacher! gives you chances for re-grading of your tests if you don't think your grade was fair. gives A LOT of notes so you can't miss class.
Great Teacher, not the easist class ....Work your ass of you can get a B+ but go to class and stay up with the notes, b/c real easy to fall behind. But overall great teacher and remember to do the practice tests because they will prepare you
if you're a fashion student and chemistry is not one of your stronger subjects, do yourself a favor and switch to chatellier. Silver is not the way to go. Chatalliers Practice exams are obviously the right choice, made my life alot easier.
Chatellier is a great professor. Definitely invest in a copy of his class notes and focus on those instead of on the text. Do the practice exams, they help a lot. If you have any problems go see him during his office hours, he's always willing to help. Really not an impossible class if you just show up and put forth effort.
Great professor. Very helpful.
I LOVE HIM ! You need to work for your grades but he explains things in words you can understand and is always happy to answer questions or repeat things if you need him to. Quizzes are a a piece of cake - tests are harder but you can access the previous semesters tests, which are almost identical to the ones you will be given.
He was great! Kinda nerdy and quirky but very nice. He was always happy to explain things or repeat anything if you needed. You need to put forth some effort but he explains things in words you can understand. Quizzes are very easy. Exams are harder but the practice tests are identical! Study them and you'll be fine!
This guy is great. Buy the lecture notes- it's definitely worth it.
I love Dana and his class wasn't too bad. Quizzes were easy, you don't have to go to discussion section (except for quizzes), and if you do the practice tests and take good notes, you should really be fine.
Chemistry is a difficult subject but Dana tries to make it interesting. He's pretty good at explaining things. It's definitely helpful to go to class and read the lecture notes. He does throw some curve-balls on tests.
Chatellier is great. Orgo isn't the most interesting subject, but he presented it as clearly as possible. The tests are well-designed, and while it isn't a particularly fun class, he manages to make it interesting.
I really thought I was going to hate organic chemistry but Chatellier made it pretty interesting. Labs are short (shorter than general chemistry), and he teaches slowly so you can keep up in lecture. Definitely go to class, study his notes and do practice problems in the book and you should be fine. Good luck!
Love this man. He makes Chemistry easier than most professors. His class is worth going to because he does demonstrations and really tries to help. He has practice tests on reserve which reflect the actual test (which are always harder). Highly recommended.
chatellier tries to be a good prof. he attempts to make chem fun to learn, especially with his little jokes. but when you ask a question he answers in ways that make you feel stupid. his favorite phrase that he says 8 millions times a class is "so heres the point!"
Not as bad as i expected chem to be. Buy the lecture notes, it makes class a lot easier. The textbook is really only helpful for quizzes. The previous exams he gives you access to are extremely similar to the test. Do well on them because the final was ridiculously hard and is likely to bring your grade down.
You never have to write a thing in class if you buy the lecture notes. quizzes are a great grade booster, and are based off of textbook questions. you'll use the same text book in chem 106. STUDY ONLINE TESTS that he provides... they help a lot. however it's not as easy to prepare for the final. the final was horrible.
GO TO CLASS. He can't make the information any easier, so what he says makes the most sense if you study. Lots of opportunity to gain extra points. YOU HAVE TO STUDY A LOT TO DO WELL IN THIS CLASS. He's very helpful if you go to office hours, and will regrade any exam through out the semester. Had him for 3 chem clases, loved him!
Never even touched the textbook and never did any problems the textbook (though he claims this is important). He gave us old exams to study from and they are very similar in structure. The key is to know everything and take down everything..anything can show up on the exam.
Loved the professor, hated the subject. Devote at least an hour a day to study
Awesome teacher, sparked my love for Organic Chem! Take him for 321/322, go to class, pay attention, easy to get a B+, hard to fail, hardest to get an A seeing as B+ was in the top 3 of the class and no one had an A lol.
Great Teacher! He LOVES chemistry, and although the material is hard, he makes it as easy as possible. He does experiments, and explains everything very well. He also allows you to use old exams to study. Definitely take his class!
chatellier makes it easy to understand, he's awesome, take him
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! this professor is great! he really knows what he is talking about and has no problem stopping for questions. there are previous tests on reserve and are similar to actual tests. he does test you on actually knowing the information, so you need to know unit definitions in order to finish problems and do them correctly. DEF TAKE
Definitely take this professor for organic chemistry. Emphasized understanding and encouraged class participation and question asking. Easy to find and even easier to understand! This was my second run at CHEM321 and my B is much better than the D- I got with Sametz last time. Overall entertaining and extremely good at explaining the material.
go to class; easy to get a B
If you haven't taken a science class in 10 years then this is your teacher. I was required to take this and nearly threw up in horror, but I passed only because of this man. He isn't exactly "easy" but he is helpful and fair. Dont buy the book do the problems they're the same as the exams and buy his notes. 10 years no science i passed
BEST TEACHER EVER. i had him for chem101 over winter session and he was great. his notes are so helpful and he does experiments in class. hes laid back and gives practice exams that accurately reflect his real exams. i would recommend him to everyone
He's cool and funny as hell
this teacher IS AMAZING. by far one of the best teachers ever. Tests are ok, you have to be careful, h/w is not mandatory, and he is really relaxed. lectures get long sometimes, so take the class with a couple friends. take his class if you can. I did, and it was the best decision I made that summer.
Great teacher with excellent topic flow. Work is hard, but you get what you work for in there for sure.
LOVE HIM, Danas a funny guy but most of all hes a good teacher. he cracks jokes and is forgiving and understanding, not to mention can clearly teach the material. I am honestly sad that I cant take any more of his classes, having taken 2 already
He's very experienced and knowledgeable. But he requires you to buy four texts, when only one or two are needed. I never used 3 of them. He also seems to treat individual students as "student 098142B". One-on-one, he acts detached from you and is more interested in answering your question and getting on with his life than stimulating conversation.
Great teacher and a really funny guy. His jokes and teaching methods make Chemistry a little more bearable. Tests are relatively difficult (especially Exam 3), so be sure to pay attention in class and be familiar with the material. Couldn't ask for a better teacher for this course.
He wants you to pass and tries to help as much as possible!
Loved him. He kept it interesting, always brought in things that related to the lectures to grab our attention. Videos of his lectures are online, so you don't always have to go to class. Tests can be a little tricky, but check out the old exams online and you should be fine! VERY fair grader, has a very lenient regrade policy! Definitely TAKE HIM!
If you can take his class you should. He's really funny and going to class isn't bad. The first two tests were easy but then it got a little harder but with quizzes and DSA's alot of grades go into your final grade
He's a really awesome teacher. Definitely wants students to do well. Study your notes and the old exams online. Exam #3 is the hardest. Lectures can get boring, but he is a funny guy. Definitely take his class!
One of the best science professors at UD. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Cracks a joke here and there, and makes references to make chemistry that much more interesting. Exams are somewhat difficult, but it is organic chemistry. He gives you a decent amount of notes and an old exam too! Grading policy is also very fair, so all around great deal!
Exam 3 is the hardest. The course really sped up after break. Otherwise a great class. Don't let people scare you about the final. Just do the old exams before the real exams to study and you should be fine.
the BEST chem professor! he is very helpful and tries his best to make lectures interesting. the trick to ace his exams are to practice from the old exams online. his final was cumulative so be prepared to study hard for the final and read all the chapters and work on problems from the workbook and textbook. His lecture notes are very helpful!
One of the best professors at UD.
Chem isn't really my strong point, but he kept me engaged with his show-and-tell and his corny jokes. Just show up and/or study your text book and you should be ok.
Amazing. take him as much as you can
Work hard in this class and you will benefit. Extra credit assignment really boosted my grade, and lab TA's are really there for you to help you get the best grades possible. Tests arent always easy, but if you work hard, you will succeed in this class.
He gives you the old exams people, if you cant pass this class...you need to really evaluate your study skills. Also, the curve is amazing, with an A still being an 87
easy to follow along with in class, provides lecture notes, and online tests that are exactly like the exams. Kind but has a weird sense of humor.
he puts his old exams and answer key online with the same exact format and just different numbers for the problems. he explains everything really well and the class isn't that bad if you just put a little effort into it. he also puts his lecture videos online so if you miss class you can watch them at your leisure
I loved chatellier! He gives you old practice exams that are just like the exams he gives out so it makes the test easy. I got A's on almost all the tests. The final is impossible though. He is very passionate about what he teaches and manages to keep the class pretty interesting. DEFINITELY take him!
Really hated taking this class, but I'm really happy I had Chatellier. He gives you old exams almost identical to the real tests and his curve is nice. (Note: if you don't do well on tests, rely heavily on the labs to save your grade) He's a cool guy, but his lectures are extremely boring
He's nice and funny and can be helpful. However, how much you should rely on the textbook for tests is a mystery.
He is a really nice and funny guy, but the class is definitely difficult. Study the practice exams he gives you, even though the practice ones are typically A LOT easier than the actual exams are. Attendance isn't really necessary since you can watch the lectures online but class really isnt that boring. I definitely recommend taking him!
UD capture lectures EXACT SAME as class--dont even have to go to class. practice old exams are EXACTLY like the regular exams, just different numbers used. if you can memorize how to do the practice exams, you're guaranteed A's on the exams. does interesting chem demonstrations & really does try to make sure everyone understands material
Even though Chem isn't my strong subject, Chatellier did a good job teaching it. He's always very friendly and willing to help. However, the tests are difficult and there are four of them, not including the final. He's better than Silver, that's for sure. Also, he gives extra credit. Take him if you must take chemistry.
He gives you a lot of tools to allow you to do well. Class isn't manditory and all of the lectures are recorded and put online. He gives you the old exams to study which are really useful. If you want a B (what I got) just talke notes and study for the exam for about 2days. He's a good teacher and worth taking for this class. Do well on the labs.
Dr. Chatellier repeats exactly what he does year after year. If you're the type of person who liked to watch UD Capture, do it. His classes are basically a staged performance. Don't read the text or do the practice problems from it. Practice tests are exactly what to expect for his exams. Study those, and you are guaranteed an A.
Easy A. Take this professor! The tests are the same as the practice tests, so if you do them, you are guaranteed to do well.
Chatellier is great. Notes are clear, material on the test is very straightforward and fair. Look at old exams, you don't need the textbook. If you watch UDCapture, you only need to go to class for exams
The best chemistry teacher I ever had. I would recommend sitting in the front of the classroom since he isn't too loud. But he teaches very well and makes it known that he wants to help you! His practice exams are very similar to the actual ones so you just need to study those and you'll be fine. I plan on taking him for CHEM102 also.
Chatellier is my favorite professor I've had so far, and as nursing majors you have to take him. But no worries because even though the exams are somewhat tough, if you do the practice tests (which are nearly identical to the exams) you can easily pass this class. LOVED THIS CLASS!
chem sucks but he's pretty good teacher. he gives extra credit and practice exams before the test but the test are SO hard with some curveballs. if you're not good at sciences like i am you might have a hard time but he's better than the other teachers so if you have to take chem take him
Chatellier is a great chem prof! He really knows his stuff, but it doesn't mean that his class is easy. Orgo is difficult but that doesn't mean that the prof stinks! I am not a chem whiz but I'll probablly end up with at least a B- because of the way his grading system is set up. Go to his office hours if you need help, it helps!
he is a really great professor and explains the material well. the exam questions are exactly like the practice questions, but with different numbers. as long as you pay attention in class and do the practice problems, you'll get an A
Great professor. Really explains the material well. His quiz questions are the exact ones from the textbook, which he reminds students of every time. The exams are basically the same (different numbers) then the practice exams he gives you. Class is on UD capture so you really don't have to go to class but lecture is interesting and worth going to.
Class didn't require too much effort. Reading the textbook wasn't necessary, just the lecture notes. Lectures are on UDCapture so it was helpful when studying, or if you needed to miss class. I thought he was kind of annoying at times and he came off as condescending sometimes, but overall he was always nice and he tried to make corny jokes.
He was not approachable, but he gives practice exams that are really similar to the actual exams. I still found them difficult but you need to understand the information. I ended up in the B range so I was happy. He is on UD Capture so if you miss something in class you can rewatch the lesson.
Chatellier was a good professor. He gives practice exams that are pretty similar to actual exams and is very willing to help students understand material during office hours.
Chatellier was a good guy. Chemistry is hard no matter who teaches it. I think he did a good job being clear about the material. Practice exams are what will help you the most, office hours are sort of awkward. Don't worry about the textbook, or the problems inside. The test questions are much easier! There's also a great extra credit assignment.
Prof. Chatellier is the best. He does care about his students. I'm not a science kind of guy,but he made me interested in the subject. He's a man with good sense of humor. Most importantly, he can teach, he'll make hard stuff easy for you. If you have to take Chem, take him! And you won't regret!
Nice guy, but his class is VERY hard if you don't pay close attention to lectures. Study the practice exams but don't expect them to be the exact same thing as the test; they won't be. But the concepts are all the same! He makes chemistry interesting (despite the fact that I hate it) and is a good professor.
take this class! Not the easiest but he is an awesome professor and really cares about his students. He makes corny chem jokes and does interesting experiments in class. He's always there to help you if you need it and he's awesome. take my word for it.
I really loved Professor Chatellier. He is genuinely a nice guy and you can tell he really cares about his students. His lectures are fun and he usually does demonstrations. Tests are hard but if you do the practice exams you will be fine. If you have to take a chem class, i definitely recommend professor chatellier's class
If you need to take chem105, take his class! Such a good professor and is really quirky and funny. He's extremely smart so you have to keep up with his notes. Hes very approachable and helpful and the most fair professor you will ever have. His practice exams are just like his actual exams. The quizzes and discussion are super easy. Get the book!
Attendance not mandatory whatsoever. If you want an A in the class, find kids who have taken it with him, won't be too hard at all, its a common course, and get as many previous tests from different years as you can. He uses the same exact questions just diff numbers and elements. Book not needed at all. went to class for only tests, got an A
Class is doable with practice exams and practicing the chapter sections for quizzes. For final, use the online study guide to help you study, the questions are similar to the final exam which is completely different than any other exam.
I came into his class with a burning hatred for chemistry but he made the class enjoyable. All of his exams have the same basic blueprint so tests are pretty easy. He's been teaching chem105 for over 20yrs and has his teaching methods down to a science.
Chem is obviously a really hard class, but Chatellier does his best to keep it as interesting and as easy as possible. He gives practice tests which are exactly like the real tests. Get good grades on the exams and you'll be fine for the final (cumulative).
This class was really hard. NO ONE got an A!! Like not one person in the class, the highest grade was a B+. He's a really good teacher, but if you take orgo you need to work your butt off and make sure you go to office hours. He's such a nice guy and supper helpful if you go to him.
Overall a very good teacher who made class interesting and enjoyable. Like he reiterates in class, the quiz questions come directly from the textbook, so do the textbooks questions & the quizzes will be really easy. The study guides for the tests are also helpful. Despite what people say,the final was not that bad, just study the tests and quizzes.
I actually enjoyed this class! The first two exams are cake as long as you do the practice exams. The last two are a bit more tricky, but just make sure you do the practice exams and review your notes. I studied an hour for the final and still managed a B+ in the class. If you have questions go to the office hours!
Previous tests provide blueprint but they aren't exactly like the actual tests. They are a little bit harder. Quiz questions come directly from textbook, easy A's right there. Final was kinda hard. If you have an A before the final, good luck keeping it after the final.
LOVE this professor. He is nothing but helpful. His notes in class are very helpful and he has a book with all the notes too which was convenient. Also had practice tests that were identical to the actual tests just different numbers. TAKE THIS CLASS. Test 3 was the most difficult
This man is why I passed chemistry without a curve. He is incredibly helpful and an overall awesome professor. Don't take anyone else but him! He is the best!
Sweetest, most adorable man ever and also the best professor ever. He is so passionate and hardworking when it comes to his job and he puts his students first. He wants you to succeed. With that being said, I had a B+ before the final and a B- after... it is killer. But Dana makes it worth it. Deserves the teaching award that he got :)
He is so dedicated to teaching and a wonderful teacher. The tests get progressively harder and you will have to study more and more each time or your grades will drop. The final was exactly like an ACS exam, but I was clueless so my grade dropped a lot! That said, he is a great person and will make you enjoy organic chemistry!
I wish he taught all my chemistry classes. He kinda talks fast, but all his lecture are on line so you can watch them instead. I know that he reads the rate on the website, so all i have to say to him is that i wish he didn't drink that soda everyone at 8:00am ( speaking from a dietetics major).
Dana makes you work for your grade. Go and pay attention in his lectures, he does a decent job not putting you to sleep which is nice. Best thing to do is print and study off his practice exams. They are virtually the same as the actual exam, so if you can do his practice exam on your own, you're pretty good. Lots of work, but not impossible
he is so great! I love his class! he has good lecture and no assignment. exam is very easy. take him
I loved him, he's very understanding and posts his lectures on UD capture. He makes the lectures as interesting as possible. Four exams throughout the semester and he gives you access to last years exams. Definitely take him.
Dana is the sweetest person on the planet! If you have to take Chem. 105, definitely take it with him, you wont regret it! His exams were manageable because he gives you a practice exam which is very similar to your actual exam just with different numbers. His quizzes are right from the textbook so they are easy As! Extra Credit on every exam!
His lectures are on UD capture so if you miss a class, you'll be fine. Just look at his old practice exams and study them well and you will be completely fine. Not the most exciting class but I never dreaded it. He tries to keep it interesting. Not sure about the final yet (taking it today). I would recommend him.
Lectures are filmed so physical attendance in class is not necessary, but going helps you keep up. He didn't lecture for my class, and used in-class time for questions. He's really passionate about chemistry. When I got sick during finals week he was really nice about letting me make up my exam a few days later. Great professor, but a hard class
Great teacher, fairly easy class. His lectures are very important. Go, listen, ask questions. The quiz questions are straight from the textbook. The tests all have a supplemented practice test but some are difficult and deviate from the model. If you put in the time with this class you will succeed and pass no problem.
Dana is an amazing professor and knows what he's talking about and it very clear cut. The practice exams are exactly the tests just with different numberswording, however you need to understand the material to pass quizzes (questions right from the textbook) and the final. PAY ATTENTION.
He was a good teacher. Sometimes chemistry is boring but his test are just like his practice test and he focuses more on math than concepts while testing.
Dr. Chatellier was a great professor! His study guides were very helpful they are almost the same as the tests. Don't get behind on this class or your grades will suffer. The final was okay, it wasn't impossible but if your on the borderline of a grade it could drop your grade.
The class is by no means easy but he will help you and he is a great professor. His lectures are clear and his tests are fair. The material is difficult but he presents it the best possible way.
This is a very hard class but he is a great professor. He takes the time to explain his material thoroughly and really does care about his students. He is very flexible and willing to work with students. Make sure you go to class and GET THE TEXTBOOK!
No professor, no matter how helpful or clear, could ever get me to enjoy chem. That being said, Dana is great. If you can manage to take chem with him, do it. He is super helpful, & really does his best to try to get his students to enjoy & understand chemistry. BUT this class is by no means easy. You HAVE to watch lectures, read & STUDY to succeed
Labs are a wonderful grade booster. His tests are all partial credit but they are NOT easy. That final was death BUT! this class is super convenient because all of the lectures are online. As a result, you don't have to go to class unless you really want to. Gives practice exams that look almost exactly like the test:study them not the concepts.
Amazing professor. Took him for 101 102 and Elementary Orgo. Chem wll always be ridiculously impossible. Got a C- in 101 and 102 and a D in orgo, however I passed! This is all because of Chatellier. Literally would not have passed and would have had to retake all three courses if it weren't for him. Do not expect his classes to be easy, though.
This guy rocks, I've hated chem my entire life and I still do, but he made it a little less painful than anticipated. The way he does his lectures makes it very easy to follow along, which is essential for passing and if you don't feel like 8am chem one day, identical lectures are on course capture. He's quirky, but very helpful!
I enjoyed Dana's class. Although it was tough to wake up for his 8ams, if you don't go to class (or watch the capture lectures) you will be very confused. The practice tests are essential to doing well on his tests. I am not good at chemistry, but between office hours and his practice tests, the class is manageable.
He gives you access to the past semester's exams which is very helpful AND I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO SO. He gives a big extra credit assignment to help out any bad grade you got. 4 exams and he drops one lab grade. I'm so glad I have him for CHEM102 next semester.
Professor Chatallier is one of my favorite professors so far. He made organic chemistry the least scary as possible and was great at explaining complex concepts in a simple way. He responds to every email and question you ask him and is always there to help you understand. Tests are tough, but its what you expect and practice exams help a lot.9y
This was my second time around taking CHEM101, and I definitely recommend taking Professor Chatellier if you are not the best in chemistry. He offers old exams as practice, gives you the option to either come to class or watch the lectures online, and gives you extra credit assignment. Overall, the fairest chemistry professor. Definitely take him
Lectures are optional because he expects you to watch all of 2013's lectures online. The class is based off of 3 exams and your final and the exam averages range from 50-60. He's an extremely nice guy and is very helpful if you are struggling in chemistry. I recommend taking him even though this class is very hard.
1st and 2nd exams were super easy, 3rd and 4th a lot harder. STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS!! final was hard
The class average ended up being either a D+ or C-. The final dropped almost everyone by a letter grade and the test averages ranged from 50-60% for all four exams. This class was extremely difficult but he was a good instructor.
The nicest teacher I have ever had. He cares about his students and is not there to make class a bad time. He knows that chemistry can be hard so the tests are straight forward. If you KNOW HOW TO DO EVERYTHING FROM THE PRACTICE EXAMS, you will do good in this class. The final was extremely hard compared to the rest of the class for a warning.
He is literally the best chem professor I have ever had. The material in Orgo is so difficult but he explains it as clear as possible. He replies to every single email and answers any questions you may have. Watch the recorded lectures before class, look over the practice exams, do the problems in the book, and you should get a pretty good grade!
Outstanding guy with a real nact for fully explaining the material in lay terms. Sets up lots of time for out-of-class help, and seems to care deeply for his students and science. Very easy to get an A if you understand the math. Would very highly recommend taking with Dr. C
Dana is a super cool and quirky guy. He knows what he is talking about. If you understand the practice exams, you're solid. Quizzes are straight from textbook. Discussion will boost your grade. He's always around campus so use him as a resource. Final was brutal but if you do well in the class you can end up with a high C or low B if you bomb it.
Dr. Chattelier is the kindest prof I've ever known. Incredibly personable, if you reach out to him. It's a chem course, so it is very difficult, but if you are struggling, you GOTTA go see him, and sooner rather than later. He will be able to help immensely - do not overlook the power of office hours! 10hrs/week studying is necessary to pass.
The material taught in class does not go along with what is on the exams. There are practice exams that are much more helpful for the tests than his notes. Sweet man and will make time to help you if you need it, but lectures were overall pointless in my opinion.
Love him, his tests are the same as the practice exams and he makes it really easy to pass! He puts all the lectures on UD capture so you don't even have to go to class.
what a gem!!! great class to take, makes chem fun and easy to understand
Chatellier is probably the best professor I've had at the university. He is extremely clear, and lecture time is used wisely. He also grants access to past exams which are the same format as the exams you will be taking. The book is written by him so its a good resource. You can also buy his lecture notes which help alot.
Lectures are long. He has the practice exams on a library database which are the exact same as the exams. He also gives extra credit so do that worth 21 points. Not sure why fashion majors have to take this course.
Dana is a great guy and really cares about his students. The practice tests are very similar to the exams. He is a really fair guy and offers extra credit. I would 100% recommend taking his class.
This class was very hard and he wasn't very good at making the tests fair. He gives practice exams but they didn't help much with the real exam. You have to study a lot to maybe do well. My classes average at the end of the semester was about a 45% and most people received D's. He wasn't helpful in office hours and made me feel dumb.
Amazing professor. Had him for 101 and 102 and next semester I have him for orgo and I could not be more excited. Supplies the entire class with old exams and answer keys which make it so much easier to study for exams. Funny jokes and good demonstrations. Makes chemistry passable.
I enjoyed this class. If you're taking chemistry at UD, he is your best bet. His grade scale is curved. The practice exams are just like the real exams, but beware of Exam 3. A lot of us struggled with that. The final is extremely hard so do well in everything else because it can tank your grade like it did mine.
Exams are very similar to the practice exams he gives online. First two exams aren't too bad but the third is hard. If you ask questions he will give you a sassy answer but overall cute little old man. His lecture notes help a ton and lectures are online if you miss a class.
Take Dana even if it's an 8am. Highly suggest going to lectures but he does have UD Capture, always answers emails and wants you to succeed. Practice exams are not graded and are a lot like the actual exams which is so helpful. Go to office hours if struggling, he's super chill.
Only 3 tests, best test counted 2x, and a final make up your final grade. Professor Chatellier tests on memorization, NOT understanding of how these reactions happen (AKA: only memorize everything). There is not enough time on exams to think through probems. I understood every mechanism in this class and the exams only tested ability to memorize.
Dr. Chatellier is definitely one of the better profs at UD. He cares about his students which is shown by his dedication to our success. The first two tests are ridiculously easy, but the last two and the final are very difficult, do not get cocky! Go to class and really study the last month or two. Don't make the class harder than it needs to be
Prof. Chatellier was a great professor. He took a class that he knows is boring and tried to make it interesting (and in my opinion succeeded). The material isn't easy and the exams are hard, but if you put in the effort, Chatellier gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Overall, tough, but fair, and genuinely cares about his students.
While this class was very hard, there were plenty of opportunities to get help from him and the discussions and quizzes raise the grade. Most people didn't pass the third exam. The final exam was cumulative so watch out for that, but it is definitely passable if you put in a decent amount of time studying for it. This is true for the whole class
First of all, this man is a wholesome human too pure for this world. He's entertaining and quirky and made CHEM101 not awful. Go to class, his lectures are VERY helpful, but he also records them all just in case. 5 exams, all pretty tough, but the final was impossible. Labs are easy and are 25% of final grade. Loves people who participate regularly
His humor is great. Has UD capture. Lectures are usually good. Gives out practice exams just like the real ones. Should be able to get a B or A in his class.
The exams aren't too bad if you do a ton of textbook problems. The FINAL EXAM IS THE WORST EXAM YOU WILL EVER TAKE. The format is completely different. Completely unfair test. The questions are completely different. Some stuff wasn't mentioned in class or it was implied that we didn't need to know it. The final is literally designed lower ur grade.
I've always hated chemistry but this class was pretty easy. I only went to lectures to take and pick up my exams because the practice exam is exactly like the exams. Just know how to do the practice exams and you'll be fine. He gives an easy extra credit assignment and the lab portion is easy.
I LOVE HIM sweetest man ever and really wants his students to succeed. I'm not the best at chem but I've been doing pretty well in this class because he does everything he can to make sure we are prepared for the exams. He gives access to practice exams and an extra credit opportunity. I 100% recommend taking him!
Professor Chatellier is an awesome professor to take for orgo. He really wants to see students succeed. He is always available at all times and is understanding. He gives UD capture which is awesome especially whenyou are confused on a subject and need help. I highly suggest taking him! If you put in the work, you will succeed!
To pass this class, you have to study. Fortunately, Chatellier makes that easy by letting you print off practice exams (the exams from last semester) and having all his lectures available on UD capture. He seems to care about students and offers extra credit, but many people still struggle.
He made the course as simple as possible. The tests are the same exact format as previous tests that he has given, which he will provide for you online. Sit in front and talk to him! If you put in the effort, ask questions, go to see him, and literally just practice the old tests, you'll be fine! He rocks!
He doesnt answer questions well and the exams are based purely on memorization (not actually understanding) When you ask a question he makes you feel belittled and stupid. Also, if you dont know the different mechanisms on exams youre basically screwed. The only good thing about this class is that practice exams format are identical to the exams
such an enjoyable class and teacher
Honestly the best professor at UD. Makes difficult material as simple as possible and gives practice exams that are the exact same format as the actual exam. He genuinely cares about all of his students and won't let anyone fail the class.
This man loves what he does, and it's obvious. Best teacher I've ever had. Helped me actually understand chemistry. Loved this class.
he seems to love what he does.. he's very funny. first 2 exams were easy, every exam out of that was very difficult. don't even bother studying for final. no resources to study from.
Really sweet and funny guy. Don't ask stupid questions though or else he'll roast you in front of the class. Make sure you are well prepared for the tests and you will be okay. Personally did not think the final was horrible despite what a lot of comments said. Doesn't post grades online. Provides a lot of extra practice/help
He's one of the best chemistry teachers that I've ever had in my life, he always trying to help the students with many ways. (It was a private course provided by UD to Sabic scholars).
Gives exams from the previous semester that are exactly the same. Having that was an easy way to study for exams and attendance is not mandatory at all. Has UD capture and is very knowledgeable. Labs are easy and gives 21 point extra credit assignment. Take him!
He is an amazing teacher who knows how to make lecture fun
Chatellier is so friendly, it's a shame he teaches such a difficult class . If you don't participate in his "blended learning style" classroom and just sit back like lecture, you will NOT succeed. He can be emailed for homework help, but study groups are very hard to find. I wasn't required to take the lab for my major, so no buddies made :(
He is a funny guy which makes people pay attention to him a little longer than usual for a chem lecture. His lectures are online so class attendance is optional. The tests are hard, but reasonable.
Well he's way better than Windgrave. Chemistry is still a tough class and you have to teach yourself some of the concepts by reading the textbook, but his lecture notes really help as well. Very nice man who makes lecture interesting with the occasional joke and is very helpful if you go to his office hours.
Dr. Chatellier is an amazing professor. He's very caring about his students and knows the material is difficult for most. He provides you with so many resources for practicing chemistry to do well on exams. The only way you won't pass is if you don't try.
Chatellier is so funny and makes his lectures interesting and engaging. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly reccomend it. The course grade is only big exams that are pretty difficult. He is also not on canvas so it makes it difficult to know your actual grade. Overall nice guy and way better than Wingrave.
He's amazing. I watch capture instead of going to lecture bc it doesn't count and is more convenient. He actually endorses this. Labs suck bc you only get 24 hours to submit, but it's department not him. So thankful I have him and not Wingrave. Exam material is hard but he makes them 34 MC's and some feel like throw aways. Takes work but is doable.
His lecutres are on course capture so it is not mandatory that you go to class but just make sure you watch them if you don't. His exam questions are identical to past exams that he gives you, just with different examples in each question. As long as you know how to do reactions you should be fine. Study A LOT for the testes though
Coming from an AP background, this class was not too difficult. If you put in the time to study and complete a couple textbook problems in the textbook you will do fine. lectures are never mandatory and he records everyone of them which is very helpful for studying. He is a very nice guy and cares a lot about his students and their grades.
Personally, I thought this class was very boring. As a teacher, Chatellier does an alright job at explaining things. However, the material is so bland and dry and there is little effort to make it engaging. As someone who hates chemistry, he did not make the subject more enjoyable, but if you have to take chem for your major, take it with him.
The tests were not that hard, was doing well in the class but beware the final is nothing like the other test formats and dropped my grade by 2 whole letter grades. Final is impossible, but if you manage to get good grades on the first exams you'll be ok.
There are a total of 3 exams and a final. I watched most of his lectures through UD Capture. I was 100% recommend reading and using his lecture notes. They were very helpful and summarized a lot of the topics with examples. Ensure you complete the labs on time and do not miss any of them. Lab is 25% of your grade.
I took honors chemistry in high school and it was way easier than this class. Chatellier's class is very lecture heavy, and he does not make it interesting at all. He has a very monotone voice and he doesn't explain things very well. His exams are hard and his final is even harder. Would not recommend.
Dana is an amazing guy, but don't be fooled his class is hard!! Despite being "elementary" organic chemistry this class is SO hard because the only things contributing to your grade are the 4 exams you take during the semester. This C+ is the hardest I have ever worked for a grade!
For an intro chem class this was a very difficult class. Your entire grade is determined by 3 test grades and the final. Lab was also very time consuming and no help to the topics discussed in lecture. In order to do well in the class be prepared to teach yourself the material and study a lot for every test. Would not recommend to any freshman.
One of my favorites. I took him over the winter, but this class will require a lot of studying out of the classroom. I recommend doing the problems from the text book that he has listed on his practice exam. He uses a 600 point grading system. There are 3 exams (300), a cumulative final (200), and a super score exam (100). Generous grading scale.
I took Chatellier's class on only half a semester of chem in high school and got an A. It wasn't bad, labs were the hardest part. The tests weren't bad, all multiple choice and some questions were taken from the textbook. He gives problems from the textbook you can do and you should, they help. Everything in the class was pretty easy to understand.
midterms were easy. if you put in the effort you can easily pass the class.
His lectures are old overhead slides that he uses on a document camera and he doesn't post anything online, not even grades. You have to go to his office to see anything. He's stuck in the 80's and it's very frustrating. The "slides" are very hard to read because they are written on plastic and projected through a camera. Very frustrating.
I did not do well in this class but it was 100% my fault. He lectures and does not have course capture, but also has older lectures uploaded online that you can watch if needed. He also has old exams up that you can use to study. He seems to genuinely care about his students and if I have to retake CHEM102, I would not mind if he taught me again.
Only graded on three exams and final. Only thing that helps is the practice exams. Everything is based on memorization and not actually understanding the material. If you do not need this class do not take it! Doesn't give a lot of partial credit
Very helpful professor and very open to emails, class is very easy if you've done chem before, lab is annoying
he is a very nice man but he lectures very quickly so i feel like i have to reteach myself everything by the time the VERY HARD exams come. labs are annoying. attendance not mandatory and he posts lectures online and has a book with his lecture notes which are very helpful for studying. i dont go to class and i did better than most on the past exam
Moves very fast through the content and gives you plenty of time to review before tests. Tests and labs are the only grades, but they are all fairly easy (34 questions all multiple choice for all of them) if you study and put in the work. Very kind professor that makes the class as interesting as possible.
Definitely have to work very hard to do well in this class. Only graded on exams, which is a downfall. Chatellier tries to help the best he can, but it's up to you to study. Practice exams are similar, but the tests were much harder. If you understand the lecture manual, you will be okay because he curves overall grades. Don't buy textbook!!
Chatellier is a great chem prof. If you took AP chem in high school his class is a breeze. No HW or mandatory attendance but I'd recommend going to class. He cares about his students and is interactive even in a big lecture hall. Only complaint is lab because it just hurts your grade and is not helpful to lecture topics and your grade is only tests
Funny lectures, but they are all scripted. He has them posted online so that you don't need to go to class unless there is an exam. No homework and lab is considered a different course, so make sure you study and know the material well!
Professor Chatellier aims to make his lectures accessible and entertaining when possible. He provides practice exams (which are exams that he's given in the past) to help students narrow down the material they need to study. All lectures are posted online. Three exams and a cumulative final; highest exam grade counted twice.
He is very good at explaining complicated topics and breaking them down. I would highly recommend taking his class because he is very understanding and his tests are not hard. He is very straight forward with what material is on his test and gives you practice test and problems that are almost identical to test questions.
He is a nice man and is good at explaining the material so everyone can somewhat understand what he is teaching, but his exams get progressively difficult throughout the semester and much of the material is barely covered in class.
Dana has been one of my most inspiring professors at UD, where I have now received both my undergrad and grad degree from. He is truly understanding, kindhearted, and cares enough to make class fun. He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to go above and beyond to support his students' learning. He will always be a mentor to me!
A lot of lectures but a funny guy that definitely knows what he's talking about and wants his students to succeed. Really easy to reach outside of class for extra help. Only has 4 exams in the class but the practice tests are really helpful. I would recommend buying his notes because they are really helpful for the exams.
Nice teacher who was very accommodating given the circumstances. Although this class was asynchronous, he was available every day to meet one-on-one with you. Four tests each worth 20% with only 20 questions so potentially easy to mess up. All in all, good teacher.
if you have ADHD don't even try. Lectures are pre-recorded from 5 years ago and horridly boring.
He gave us lecture from 5 years ago to watch, you could literally hear everyone in the background. It was a lazy thing to do, we are online learning and he decided not to take the time to redo the lecture in zoom format. Unbelievable that he is allowed to do that! We can't submit old papers but he can recycle lectures from YEARS ago? before covid.
This class was great. Easy to succeed if you put it some effort to attend class and pay attention but on top of that he taught the material very well. Even online and asynchronous class was engaging and I learned a lot. He is very caring and wants to see his students succeed. Best prof for this class!
This class was a waste of my money--the "lecture" portion of the class consisted of pre-recorded old grainy videos from 2016 (and the audio quality was not the best). Personally I think it's lazy when professors choose to not do synchronous lectures. I definitely will be avoiding Prof Chatellier's classes in the future.
Overall a good professor but I just hated the format of the online class. He is super easy to contact and has office hours every day. The class is only four exams though, so if you don't test well, good luck.
I took this class asynchronously with prerecorded lectures and I was still engaged with the content and understood the content the entire time. Though test are the only thing graded if you go to the review sessions and do the practice exams you will be fine. I also never read the text book or looked at the lecture notes after the first video.
I took it asynchronous and the lectures are from 2019. Theyre not bad though. If you take notes and take a few hours to do the practice tests and understand or memorize how to do the problems, youll be fine. online tests and you can take them whenever you want in a 3 day window. He sends out a zoom link everyday around 5am so you can get help
chem103 was totally asynchronous with this prof. Lectures were videotaped from 2019 and personally I found it hard to follow along. graded by 3 tests and a final and those are only grades but they are completely online. always available for office hours though and genuinely wants students to succeed. I would def not recommend asynchronous chem tho
he is a great professor who wants you to do well and has office hours almost every day. i personally set up zooms with him to go ever my tests (we only get 3 plus final) and it helped me a lot. if you take this class asynchronous really be consistent with watching lectures because it is easy to fall behind!
Exams are 100% of your grade but your highest score is counted twice and the scale is set so that its very possible to pass. Took this asynchronously and would have preferred if he re-recorded his lectures. The mic quality was poor. Get textbook and solutions manual, it will really help. Molecule building kit was useless and didn't help at all.
Whoever though that asynch chem was a good idea is mentally insane. Basically having to teach yourself chem due to recorded lectures being ancient is terrible. Only grade is 4 exams, no HW or quizzes. Only good thing; highest exam grade is doubled and grading scale is generous, 50% is a C-. If it weren't for the grading scale, I would've failed.
The absolute best professor in the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. A truly caring, awesome man who wants his students to do well and get something out of this class. Work the homework problem sets, organize (dont memorize) the reactions and you will get at least a C+, but most likely much higher. Buy the notes and a good modeling kit!
A great professor for a pretty terrible class. You'll have to really put in the work for the grade as the class is only graded on exams, but he gives you all of the resources that you need to succeed. He is extremely accessible outside of class and genuinely wants to help his students and see them do well. He even brought my class donuts!
Took CHEM103 async. He has extra help sessions every night which was helpful. The lecture videos are from 2019 but the quality wasn't very good. Only 4 exams were given, and the best exam grade was counted twice. It's hard to stay on task with async classes, but if you actually watch lectures and go to extra help you'll be fine
The best professor ever. He cares so much about students. He has extra help zoom everyday, as well as office hours on campus. This class was at 8am, and I HATE 8ams, but I went to this class every time and enjoyed this class every time. 3 tests where the highest one counts twice. Get a 75 on the first test and you will pass the class.
This prof is great and one of the best science profs here. He is very personable and does his best to explain things well. The material is hard but he makes himself assessable and tries to make it do-able. Often ended 10 minutes early. Your whole grade is 4 test but he doubles your highest score to count twice as much.
Super nice guy, unfortunately he can be quiet and doesn't use a microphone so it's easy to fall asleep. Information on lectures is straight to the point. Midterms were all online, but final is in person. Taking again next sem!
The whole course is graded on 4 exams, with your highest grade counting twice. Homework is not graded or mandatory. Exams are online and can be taken wherever. 25 multiple choice problems, very easy to not do well on them though. Lectures can be boring but he is very caring. He holds office hours every single night if you ever need help.
He posts every lecture video on canvas which is super helpful and attendance isn't mandatory. One downside is that your class grade will only be exam grades. Each exam is 25 questions (each question worth 4 points), so a few questions wrong can really tank your grade. He does double the worth of your highest exam grade which is helpful.
his class is in person but all his test are administered through canvas. Very good teacher in general. lectures might be boring but other than that take him.
The course was not as stressful it normally is. He is very accessible through office hours and teaches the concepts easy. The only reasons I would not take him again was due to only giving exams without assignments. This lead to me putting the class on the back burner until the test. This course is good if you do not need assignments to do well.
Class was 3 tests and final, all taken online. No homework for the class. Grade is based solely on the tests. I feel he taught the information well, it was just a lot to understand but overall, was easier for a chem class.
He's a great man, but I don't think I learned a thing. The tests have lots of questions so I was always running out of time. I went to his office hours to review missed questions and he barely helped with calculation-based questions. His classes are so so lecture-heavy. Occasionally performed experiments in class
Chatellier is the sweetest prof I had. Despite him teaching roughly 200 people for chem103, he still made me feel important. His course is lecture based and their are only 4 exams (plus a phantom exam which is your highest grade on one exam counted as another exam) for grades. he gives you everything you need to pass just show up and try
For a college chemistry course, this wasn't too bad. The only downside was that you are only graded based off 4 exams, so if you screw up in the beginning, you're done. Prof. Chatellier was very knowledgeable of the material he taught but his lectures were very boring. He did a few experiments here and there. Pay attention in lectures.
Guys, please go to his class. As the semester went on, less people showed up but don't make him start assigning homework because there are 10 people in his class. He is a sweet old man who makes jokes and gives you notes for an hour and doesn't assign homework. There are 3 tests with a big curve and he makes your highest test grade worth 2 tests.
He is sweet and very accessible outside of class but his class sucks! He legit only reads off of slides, does not explain anything, and is confusing asfffff. If you like to study, then you'll maybe thrive! But if your just trying to get by.... good freaking luck! Nothing makes sense in his lectures and I don't think I learned a thing!
he really is just a sweet older man. he does use course capture to record lectures, but I highly recommend going to lectures. he only grades by exams which are usually math heavy, but as long as you pay attention you will be fine
Professor Chatellier is the kindest man ever and really knows his stuff on what he teaches. The class is all lecture, with 4 out of class exams, but they are very fair. He taking a very interesting approach in how he explains concepts, and tries his best to make it interesting! He also tries to offer help with the dreadful co-req CHEM134.
Bro. If you want to rip every single strand of hair out of your head than TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!! He legit sucks and his textbook makes no sense. Gives no homework so good luck trying to boost your grade. Just take regular orgo at this rate and send prayers before each exam idk how to help sorry.
He is a very kind professor, but the class is very lecture heavy. There is no homework or quizzes, so your only glade is based on the exams given. The phantom exam at the end of the year is a great way to boost your grade, as well as following his manual he wrote.
Lectures were not engaging and hard to follow along. He doesn't post on Canvas because he writes lecture notes on a paper and slides it under the projector camera, saying to take a picture because he didn't want to wait for us to copy it. Easy exams but I dropped his class because I wanted to actually understand what I was learning
If you are a bad test take do not take this class
Great professor. He cares about his students and genuinely wants them to succeed. Responds quickly to emails and provides good feedback. You want this man as your professor.
No homework. Get good grades on your exams. I wish he gave homework, lecture was unclear at times and I found myself confused a lot. Amazing person, sweet guy. Online exams with a time limit were difficult, however better than in person. Don't do what I did, actually review the material and do the provided textbook questions to succeed.
A nice old man who actually wants students to succeed. However, the only assignments are three exams and a final, no homeworks or quizzes. You HAVE to study in order to pass his tests. The practice exams are your best tool.
I had Chatellier for both gen chem & orgo. He doesn't give hw so grades are entirely exam based. Exams are difficult but he has a curved grading system (a 70%= B). He reads off slides which are also on canvas so most students stopped going to class. Exams for orgo were online & open note. I don't think I would've passed the exams w/o my notes.
A passing grade may be a 30% but his class is in person on paper and pretty hard. His higher level classes are online take home, tell em how that makes sense
Please take this course!!!! Dr. Chatellier is very caring and is always there if you need any help. He holds in-person and virtual hours for office hours. His exams are also online. Even if the class is only offered at 8 am, take it anyway because he is amazing!!!
i truly have never been so confused about the material we learned in class. has his own notes that are not helpful. his exams are almost impossible to do well on since he gives us a practice exam and makes the actual exam the complete opposite. his grading scale is the only thing keeping me passing but expect a really not understanding professor
He posts all of his lectures on canvas with the date of the class it matches with. All of the tests are taken online and you are given a 3 day window. There are 4 exams per class and 1 extra credit ---> those are the only graded assignments. There is no hw but he provides practice problems and has past exams that are similar to his tests.
I had him last semester, a very sweet old guy who wants you to succeed. Your grade is based off of three exams and he counts the highest grade twice. No HW but he has an easier grading scale. Going to his office hours is ESSENTIAL if you do not understand the material in class. He also has a great sense of humor, which should be a plus :)
Nice teacher but most confusing class ever. Notes or practice exams don't really help because the actual exam will look different. Also doesn't help that the only grades in this class are tests.
I really loved this professor his grading was clear and simple although it was a little hard to get a high grade since we only had 4 tests to be graded on
Prof Chatellier is a sweet old guy who genuinely wants you to succeed. No homework, just 3 exams + a final, but his grading scale is lenient. Definitely go to office hours if needed. Unstuckstudy AI was super helpful for practice problems and exam prep.
he is a super sweet guy who really wants you to succeed. exams are online in the fall and all multiple choice. However, the class itself is set up very confusing. There are no practice questions given other than the textbook which is nothing like the real exam. Exams make up 100% of your grade. Go to the PASS sessions and read the textbook.
He drank too much coke. Couldnt see him do that at 8 a.m. nice
I've had him for 3 semesters now and I generally love the way he teaches. He does go fast, but for me that's perfect. He does use paper slides, but he is very considerate of giving us more time to write. He gives off girl dad energy in the best way possible! If you ever get a chance to take one of his classes, do it!
Whole class is graded on 4 exams and a phantom exam, no assignments. Class is manageable and Chatellier makes hard concepts somewhat understandable.
The course is graded on three tests and a final. They are all 25 MCQ and exams are taken online. He is lenient with overall course grading. Attendance isn't required and if you miss, he has recorded lectures. I love him as a chem prof, I am taking him again for CHEM 104.
Super nice and helpful professor. There are many office hour opportunities, which can be intimidating with him but remember that he's very happy ur there and is willing to help u. Class is only graded on 4 exams, for better or for worse. While attending lectures may feel optional, remember u need to know this stuff for your future science courses.
I only took exam 1 and final and passed. Final and all exams are all online
Very nice guy. The only grades are by tests, but they aren't complicated. The tests are around 80% math and 20% questions from the chapters for that exam. As long as you read, it's an easy A. Lectures aren't mandatory, but they help. He also always has hours to answer questions. He cares a lot about helping the students.
Has office hours every single night and some during the day. All lectures are posted online by day one so you never have to go. Only graded on 4 tests(technically 5) so you have to do good to get an A(an A is a 95%). Answers questions kind of mean but that's just how he is. Cool experiments, nice overall, definitely take!
He did not require attendance and provides recorded lectures online. All tests are 20 questions on canvas and you have a 3 day window to complete it OUTSIDE of class. Do with that as you will. Your highest exam score gets doubled at the end of the semester. He's always available for help outside of class as well and is willing to help with chem134.
Very lecture heavy and sometimes very confusing to understand his notes. Jumps around from textbook topics a bunch. Despite this, if you stay on top of the textbook notes on your own its fine. Attendance not mandatory either so!
I have mixed feelings about this course. The professor is a nice guy, but he spends too little time on hard topics & chooses the most confusing formulas to teach them. I had to find easier ways to teach myself. Kind of rude if you ask questions. On the other hand, all exams are multiple choice and basically identical to his practice exams.
He's a very nice guy and I think he teaches very well. Unfortunately, the only grades are exams but the practice exams are extremely similar and he prepares you well. I have class at 8am and I've never seen the guy without a coca cola and crocs on lol.
Attendance isn't tracked and there is no discussion class with it. The exams are easy and he provides study material nearly identical to the exam. Overall best teacher if you dont want to go to class.
very boring lectures, pretty much graded on 4 tests all semester, 2 online 2 in large lecture hall. He is very enthusiastic about chem but lectures can be very boring and he can breeze through topics without fully explaining them. TA hours will be great for you and have fun with the chem lab... I'm not sure i'd take him again but he isnt bad.
He knows what he's talking about, but I think the subject is just pretty hard. No discussion class with his course, but the exams are pretty difficult. Attendance isn't mandatory, pre-recorded lectures for EVERY class.
He's a really caring and funny professor. He posts practice exams that have nearly identical material on them, so the exams are pretty straightforward. All of his lectures are recorded as well, so it's very useful if you have his 8 AM lecture. However, some of the formulas he uses are confusing, and I found it easier to use outside sources.
Explained stuff well, last two exams were virtual and he uploads all the lessons to canvas incase you are sick or don't want to go in person
The content is tough to comprehend, but he does manage this workload well. Attendance isn't mandatory. Only grades are 4 exams: 2 in person and 2 online, and your best exam grade is doubled. Seemed like a caring professor overall, but his lectures were somewhat boring (although he does do amusing demonstrations sometimes!)
