GEO 312 was a great course
Very enthusiastic and made the class interesting and fun.
great teacher with a good sense of humor. makes rocks interesting and he really loves what he teaches. great course!
If you don't mind LOTS of slides, then he's a pretty good teacher. Really likes what he's doing.
Chapstick for scale!! He's a great prof. Loves what he does and makes class fly by.
Dane is great! The class is very interesting even is geol is not your thing. Light homework and exams are straight forward. Its obvious Dane loves what he does!
Dane is an awesome prof & really funny! LOVES his job & teaching. Can talk a little fast at times b/c he gets so excited. Geos312 is interesting, lots of extra credit, and an easy A.
Interesting and very simple course.
Everybody passes. Your think you learn a lot until you take a 342 or 382 course. Be ready for that.
Excellent teacher! He loves what he's doing and is very easy to approach about questions. He's very funny and has a great love for teaching! Take his class even if you aren't a GEO major!!!
This Prof is really cool, actually sweems to care about his students!! Imagine that! Fun class, he knows a lot and isn't boring.

I took his class in high school and did better in it the second time around. Lots of slides, and he has a lot of stories. Great teacher who has fun with his work. Only big assignment is a map. Take it - any major would enjoy it!
Pretty easy. Go to class so you can see the all the slides and get points for attendance.
I had no interest in this field until i took his class. He loves what he's doing and it was sucha fun and interesting class.
Took the class in the Summer as an online class. Isn't very helpful via e-mail. Make sure you e-mail him early because he takes between 1-2 weeks to answer back. Overall it's a really easy class with a lot of filler work. The videos get annoying after awhile.
hes awesome
One of the best teachers I have ever had at Western. Take this class. Very easy gen ed.
I dont know why all these comments are coming up about the class being easy. I went to every class and still did bad on the tests, they are all slide based and very detailed...dont take the class unless you have too VERY HARD!
Class is very Hard, but Dane is cool
Awesome guy, I enjoyed going to his class. He uses a lot of personal photos from his trips (national parks) in his lectures and it's pretty interesting. The tests are not very difficult IF you go to class and pay attention. I thought it was an easy A and a fun class.
fairly straight forward class IF you go to clas. He makes it hard for you to miss a class and he lets u know whats on the test. Map project is not hard but VERY time consuming. Fair amount of studying for tests. overall a great proff.
I took Mr. A's class in high school and didn't like it very much at all and barely passed it. Then I took his class this this freshmen year and was really intimidated that I was one of the only freshman out of like 300 people, it ended up being a really easy class and i enjoyed taking it more in college. He's a great teacher and is also hilarious!!
This is an Excellent course that I would strongly recommend for anymore looking to raise their GPA. Just go to class, its only one a week and its great. All he does is go through a bunch of pic from when he went to the parks. No Text book Too! I can't wait to check out some of the awesome National Parks that are out there. :)
Dane was a great teacher who was very helpfula and understanding of any problems you may have. The class is great for visual learners because it is all photo slides and note taking is very easy. Also the same slides that are shown during lectures are used as test slides. Very easy and kinda interesting too. Great teacher and great class.
Best teacher @ Western. He is interesting, funny, and loves what he teaches! Class is powerpoint-pictures. Uses the pictures and what he tells you about the picture as test questions No textbook! Super easy class if you go. Extra Credit available too. Mapping project is easy but takes take. Great class take it its interesting, & great teacher!!!
Dane is AWESOME he is the best teacher ive ever had at western and he really cares about his students and wants them to do well. As long as you go to class, you will get an A for sure, super easy with tons of extra credit questions on all exams. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Great professor, fun class, easy as long as you attend to see all of the slides he goes through. Gives a ton of opportunities for extra credit - about a full test grade in total.
Very cool instructor! Was very helpful to me during travel for work (took online). Work is very time consuming, but fairly interesting and easy. Map project seems fun.
Awesome instructor! Great class!
online course was great, easy to do, and fun, not much work went in to it, and he may allow you to retake a test if you bomb it, which is almost impossible to do. the videos are short, and the assignments are fun and easy, great class to do for the science and technology credit. He is helpful and knowledgable. the "text" and supplies are cheap.
Great prof! gives interesting lectures. also gives A LOT of extra credit. class is not mandatory but you miss a great deal of info if you skip and it makes it very hard to do well in the class. also you get 10 pts e.c. if you attend every class. highly recommended.
Dane=Dude. Best professor at WMU. Loves rocks more than life itself. Nice guy and very helpful.
Great class! You'll learn a lot and want to visit all of the places discussed in this class! Yosemite is on the top of my list!
Dane is an AWESOME professor. He is always willing to work with you if you need help or run into a problem. I would definitely recommend taking his class!
THE COOLEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!! he is extremely helpful and hilarious and tries to make the class fun. I had zero interest in national parks and monuments before the class, but after the map project it actually made me want to travel across the country! NO JOKE!! go to class, even though it's long, and take good notes and you will do awesome
Took the class online this summer to graduate. So easy online. videos are kinda long but if you take notes your good to go. He will tell you when something is on the test ... it will be. He seems really nice and its impossible to not pass with at least a ba. The class would be harder cause you can't have the charts in front of you. no textbk in sum
Mr. A is awesome! He loves rocks. Always willing to help you and further explain.
One of my favorite professors so far at WMU. Sounds like a boring class but its a perfect 3000 level gen ed to take. So much extra credit, exams are straight forward if you go to class and read over notes. NO BOOK! One project with plenty of time to complete it. Enthusiastic teacher that actually loves what he's teaching. Highly recommended.
This is such an easy class and Dane makes it interesting. It can get boring because its so long. attendance is not mandatory but if you have perfect attendance you get 10 extra credit points. he offers a lot of extra credit and spoon feeds you answers to the tests. he is a great guy and has lots of funny stories. i would recommend this class.
Dane is awesome. I took this as an online Summer I class this summer and got an A. Although there is a lot of work, its very interesting stuff, and Dane is extremely helpful and available for any and all questions. As long as you keep up with the videos and notes, there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.
Dane is awesome! he's extremely hilarious and is willing to help you with any trouble youre having. The map project is easy but takes alot of time, i didnt even finish it and still managed to get 65/60! easy gen ed but you have to attend all classes to get the information you need.
Best teacher ever. I was going to take this class online but decided to take his lecture which was a great decision. Favorite class I've taken so far. Not to mention the material is very interesting. Exams are based very easy and a lot of extra credit is given during the course of the year.
Easy A, material can be boring but he loves what he is teaching so it isn't bad. Very willing to help you get a good grade. A ton of extra credit is offered. He does reviews before tests and those are very helpful. If you pay attention he tells you during class what material will be on the test and stuff that wont.
You probably wont find a teacher who loves his job more then Dane. He is as good as they come. Interesting, easy class.
Extremely helpful, super passionate about the subject! Dane Alexander is a grade A professor.
Extremely helpful, easy grader, really understanding. Bends rules and helps good students. Extra Credit helps grades a ton.
Nice guy, not the best prof. Material is pretty difficult, but he really tries to help you learn it. 70% of exams are you trying to identify geo features using pictures of his vacations. Wouldn't recommend but it wasn't the worst class i've ever taken either.
Loves what he does and has a quirky sense of humor which helps get you through the long lectures. No surprises on tests, he tells you what will be on it during lectures. There's a big map project but it's not hard just time consuming - don't wait till the last minute. Chapstick for scale
I took this class online, very easy to follow. He was actually interesting in his lectures because he loves the subject. He's visited all of these parks so he has original pictures. Very easy to get through, basically a credit/no credit grading for hmwk, easy tests.
This was the first time I have ever taken an online class and found it to be extremely easy. Lectures are a bit time consuming but can be interesting. Take it as your 3000 level gen ed if you want an easy A. I wound up with a 100% in the class. Dane is also a very nice guy and will help you with whatever you need.
One of the best professors I have had! Super understanding and even give his home phone number if you have questions. Knows what he is talking about, even though he can go on little rants they are very fun to listen too. Willing to help you out no matter what. Very interesting class too.
Dane Alexander is so passionate about what he teaches, its super dorky, but really funny. He makes the class enjoyable and interesting. I would take another of his classes if I needed another science.
Wow, I've never seen a professor so interested in what they do. Makes all the videos very interesting. Very entertaining.
I admit he loves what he does and has such an interest in teaching geology. The problem with this is the class is 2 1/2 hours long and it is horrible to sit through. I can't pay attention for more than an hour. His study guides are awful and they don't help you prepare for the exam in the slightest bit. This class is extremely frustrating.
Very boring but easy if you take notes. Attendance is a must, he uses slides on his exams that will be showed during lecture. he is very helpful and passionate about his class.
Dane is honestly the best professor i have ever had at WMU. I hate geology and have no interest in it for a future career, but i actually liked going to his lectures. Extra credit everywhere in class as well. It's not that his class wasn't the easiest ever, but he actually helps you learn, and is very good at teaching the material. 10/10.
You couldn't find a better class for your 3000 level gen-ed requirement. Dane is an amazingly nice guy who is obviously incredibly passionate about his subject and really cares about his students. Made the class super interesting! :) No book, lots of extra credit, multiple choice exams. Make sure to manage your time, assignments can take a while.
Dane is awesome! He teaches his material in a way that anyone can remember it. if you pay attention he gives hints on all of his tests that relate to the correct answer. I have never had a professor at Western who is as passionate about something as Dane. Awesome teacher! lots of extra credit!
Dane is awesome!! Although I took the class online over the summer, I've heard he's even cooler in person. He LOVES the subject. He's very understanding and accepts late work gladly. Take this as your 3000 level gen ed!! Work is VERY time consuming, but its simple and its definitely worth it for an easy A while learning a TON.
He's a good and knowledgable professor, but you cannot miss class!! Half of his exam is powerpoint slides from class and you have to be there to see the slides. The rest of the tests are multiple choice and hard if you don't study. Lots of extra credit opportunities though. Great part is there is NO BOOK!
This course is a two and a half hour night class once a week. While the whole thing is one giant lecture Dane manages to make it interesting adding humor, a few demonstrations, and some movie clips. He's also very timely in responses to student questions and updates grades quickly. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities and an A is easy.
Good professor. The book is definitely essential, as are his powerpoints.
Having Dane made me want to change majors! Love him! Grab a study buddy for tests and go to exam review sessions (especially if you don't attend lectures!). Everything on the test is in the review. Easy A with lots of extra credit. Will give you tips if you like to travel or hike!
Dane is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is super passionate about what he teaches and makes the lectures interesting. He doesn't just know a lot about what he is teaching he has been there and done it. All of the pictures on his slide he has taken & most of them he is in. Overall a great teacher. Super passionate & helpful
I took Dane's online National Parks course and loved it. I'm in the school of Communication so wasn't sure how I'd do in this class, but Dane is a good instructor and his tests aren't about tricking you. I really want to visit some of the parks he spoke on now. He doesn't require a textbook for this class. Take good notes, study and you'll do fine.
I have never loved someone as much as I love Dane. Seriously, he is so funny and charismatic and he makes the 2 1/2 hour long lecture bearable. This is such an easy upper level course. You just have exams and a map project to due. He also offers extra credit. As long as you go to class and review sessions you should ace this class. He is great!
Phenomenal professor. Truly loves his job and cares about his students. Lectures are 2 1/2 hours which can drag if you're not interested, but he does a good job keeping students engaged. Offers tons of extra credit. Lots of information to retain but an easy class if you do your part.
His lectures are two and a half hours long (but he will give you a break halfway through). He keeps class interesting with a combination of videos, slides, powerpoints, videos, demonstrations, and he shows things he's collected from the parks and has lots of stories to tell. Great professor, I would take a class with him again if given the chance.
Great professor, very passionate about subject and keeps things interesting
I love Dane. He's a very great guy and is definitely passionate about what he teaches. He goes over the geology of National Parks like Yosemite, Grand Canyon, etc. Your grade for the class consists of 3 exams, a map project, and a final exam. Show up and pay attention for easy As on exams. Project is easy but start it early. Extra credit is given.
This guy is fantastic. My only regret is I didn't take the course on campus, because that would have been fun. He's funny, nice and happy. Tons of extra credit, very manageable class for sure. Very interesting class also.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you go to every class the entire semester you get 10 points extra credit and attendance is taken at the end of class. The TA's will notice if you come in 2 hours late. He's the nicest professor you'll have here. The class is only 2.5 hours long because he tells STORIES ON STORIES. Easy A if you pay attention
Class is overall easy if you have an amazing memory. There are only 3 tests, a map project, and a final. The tests are super hard because it's pretty much all memory, you've gotta remember all the slides and what they are. You have a map project thats pretty easy and some extra credit. No homework.
The exams can be tough given half of it is recall with pictures asking you to name a feature. He always has review sessions before the exam so take full advantage because he gives you a road map of the exam. Show up, do all the extra credit, and turn in your maps early. They take time so don't procrastinate on them. Dane is a very nice man!
Dane is just an over all great person. but this is a Geology class which means it is some hard content. I sucked on most of the tests but I did well on the final. Come to class, get the attendance points and all the extra credit points and it will give you your 3000 Level Science Course. I didn't have much homework So it was worth the B/B-
dane's great! the tests can be hard, but just pay attention to the lecture and you'll do fine. attendance is extra credit if you show up to all of them.
Dane is certainly passionate about his subject! I dislike geology but somehow he managed to make it fun and the while the exams aren't easy if you go to class and pay attention, and definitely go to the study sessions before the exams (to go over the slides), with the extra credit its certainly easy to get an A and learn a lot!
Dane is the BEST instructor you will ever have in college. His lectures are based off of his experiences in every park or monument you study about. Be prepared for hilarious stories and a passionate professor!
He is very caring. He gives lots of extra credit. I wen in for office hours for the first 4 -5 weeks and got the map project done. DON'T wait till the end to do it. It takes some time . Overall he is a very nice guy he wants you to do well on the Exams. I would take this class again if I could.
Best professor ever! So glad I took his course. Not a GEOS major and I did just fine. I would take him again if I was not graduating in April. Super helpful when needed. He's very nice!
Dane is a really great professor. He gives clear instructions and isn't a tough grader. You have 3 modules that are about 1 month each. Plenty of time to do all the homework. I'm not a science-y person but I found it all very interesting and did well in the class. He gives you everything you need to succeed, he wants students to do well.
Great class that you will learn a lot in. 3 modules that are due about every month. You have to read about 5-8 landmarks, water 3-4 videos, and there is extra credit in every module. Don't wait until the last minute because the videos are a bit long. Easiest class that you should pass with flying colors.
He makes you watch hours worth of lecture videos and type up bulleted notes on the material that he grades. You have to watch the video and type every word he says otherwise you wont get full credit. He makes you trace a ridiculous map of the US that takes hours to complete. Worst online class Ive ever taken. Easy A but A LOT of time/work
This class is a lot of work first off, especially the online version of the class. You really have to devote a lot of your time to get an A in this class. You have to type up a lot of notes but I think this class actually made me a better note taker. The map project takes some time so don't wait last minute to do it.
Dane is extremely passionate about teaching, and makes learning about geology as well as our national parks and monuments inspiring and interesting. Wish I had him in class rather than online.
This is by far the most frustrating class I've taken in my first year here at WMU. Dane uses lectures and slides that haven't been updated since the 90's. There is no textbook, just the NPS website and he tells you how to take your notes and then grades you on them with no feedback. I put more work into this class than any other class I've taken.
AWESOME dude. Super easy stuff, just kind of time consuming. Lots of note taking but the exams are easy if you just pay attention. Lots of extra credit, if you want it. If you're artsy, the map project is fun. I wish I could take this class over again, I loved it. He is SO passionate about what he's teaching that it really makes it quite enjoyable.
I took this class as a General Education Requirement and really enjoyed it. Very few assignments throughout the semester and creates fun lecture videos that actually keep you interested. I took this class online asynchronous and could tell Prof Alexander is a great guy and would 10/10 recommend to take a class with him
Really knows his stuff! Very experienced. Not a ton of homework, write lots of notes to get an A. Map project is long and difficult but overall a great class.
GEOS 3120 was great. Instructor Alexander really knows his stuff and cares about his students. There are a lot of assignments but it's basically all notes. The more notes you take the better grade you get. The Map project is fun but time-consuming so start early!
He is a very great professor and makes his lectures very entertaining with pictures taken himself and relevant stories to go along with them. This was a very enjoyable course.
One of my favorite professors. He cares about his students and their grades, offers lots of extra credit. His lectures are interesting to watch and very informative. The final project was fun and easy to complete. He is a great guy to talk to about anything and has lots of great stories and travel experiences.
