very easy class, very fun class, very involved class. loved it! cant wait to have her again!
She's ok. Gives extra-credit slips to those who give examples or ask good questions in class. Gives a outline/study guide for the tests. The tests are ok, multiple-choice, but some are a little tricky. Be prepared to write alot--about yourself. All in all, its not that hard of a class.
makes it easy and fun to understand. gives plenty of funny examples and stories that make the concepts easy to rememeber. and she gives out candy! and plenty of extra credit if you participate!
Good proffesor...She presents the material in a undestandable manner. The atmosphere in the classroom is very easy-going, and with all the laughter it lightens up everything. Tests are easy and reasonable as long as you look over the study guide she provides....over all very well...
very nice professor totally recomend taking her.
i really liked her, very interesting and gives out candy, and lets you out early. good teacher but tests can be a lil hard
She was great!!! If you love to learn she will teach you. She is a true professor . She made me want to change my major because of her attitude. Clear , understandable and fun. You will work in the class and it is not easy unless you truly participate. Can't wait to take another class from her!
Great teacher, she uses lots of examples so that you remember them on the exam. Her exam is exactly what she covers in lecture, so if you go to class and take notes you will pass the course. She makes it very interesting and fun to learn!
I love Dani Hodge! She is one of my fav all time professors. WHen I had her she was only part time. Highly recomanded!
Best professor I've ever had. Nice, VERY INTERESTING, makes you want to learn and attend class. Looked forward to every class and learned a lot! Made me add psych as a major!! Loved her!
Professor Hodge is a real sweetheart! She's passionate and competent about subject matter. She's very clear and fair. She gives many great examples to make whatever she's covering clear. She even brought our class donuts a 2 or 3 times during the quarter. Highly recommended, take her you'll love her!
I didn't care for her after 303. But I hated 391 bcuz of her. The class was at 8pm. She would start exams early which messed up my performance. That's not fair. I had an easy time with the subject so I should've gotten better than my B+. I would stress out about just tryng to show up really early. I'll let other stuff go but not the early exams.
Dani's a good speaker BUT her aide has her by the balls & grades unfairly & inconsistently. When you go to Dani & bring up problems she takes a "it's not my problem" attitude & doesn't have the nerve to stand up to her aide. She needs to either get a new aide or actually do what she's being paid for which is teaching AND grading.
I like Danni, she is one of the best professors in the school. I loved how she teaches, she applies her personal examples to make points clear to understand. I highly recommend her!
great professor, looked forward to every class! enjoyed examples

Hodge is a nice, helpful lady. She humerous at times and is not afraid to talk about sex, but she's still alittle more reserved then you would expect from a Human Sexuality professor. This class is taught very "text book" and leaves little to no room to really explore the subject of Human Sexuality.
this was one of the few legit professors ive had at CSUSB. actually gave good lecutre, have to study for test. attendance is optional but if you miss an activity you lose points. if you dont want to work for your grade dont take. but i highly reccomend if you want a straight up good professor
She energizes the class and it does not seem to be long enough
Human Sexuality/Psyc was a great course. I have taken classes like this before, but none were as fun and informative. Don't buy book, just take great notes. Dani keeps the class entertained with in-class activities (making attendance mandatory, but it's fun!)Highly recommend.
Dani Hodge was very humorous and a great teacher. Her tests were a bit detailed though, and a test questions would be from an exact sentence in the book. So tests were just a bit tricky.
fun, interesting and easy to learn from; great professor
Great Personality, but did not enjoy her lectures very much. She had great outlines and moved to fast to the next topic. Did not like her test. You have to read the text becuase she has detailed questions on the exam. And so not miss class becuase you miss the in class activities that cost a lot towards your grade!!
class is easy. u must attend because she has inclass activities where u have to sign in, which is a big waste of time. same w/ the activities. waste of time. class is easy, shes really cool. it seems like we cover nothing in class though. watch a movie every friday. shes animated tho and willing to make weird sounds, which is cool haha
A good instructor, very detailed oriented. Test are hard or should I say different. Its her style to make questions that require you to understand all the peculiarities to a scenario if you don't you will answer wrong. Once I figured out how she wrote questions I scored much better. activies are an easy 40 pts towards your grade.
She was really good at explaining things, and uses a lot of examples to help clarify for you.
Awesome professor, and very funny. I would definitely take another class with her again. Test are easy if you study. Again, she is funny <3 Very helpful and clear.
Dr. Hodge is nice, fair, and good about letting you know what she expects. She is an excellent professor to have if you need the class.
Great teacher! She gives you the outline for the notes and gives study guides. I highly recomend this teacher!
Interesing teacher who is willing to help. Gave me a good study tip which helped me pass the final. First two test are hard, but the extra credit given does help too. Must show up to class to fully understand the material.Plus read the book and youll do fine. Overall good class.
I love Dani! She is very enthusiastic about cross cultural psychology and thus, making me pay attention. I have never learned so much in a class as I did in this one. There is lots of reading for this class but trust me it's all very interesting.
Dr.Hodge is a GREAT PROFESSOR. THE BEST. She makes Psych super fun for all those Psych majors out there and even those Pre-Med Majors just like me! Just read through all the powerpoints! She always gives extra credit for participating in class! GREAT GREAT PROFESSOR!
great professor.she's very enthusiastic and keeps your attention with lectures. makes you laugh with her examples. very funny and helpful professor. take her if you can :)
GREAT professor, very knowledgeable and keeps things interesting. She is very funny and has a great personality. Highly recommended!
Dani was an awesome teacher!!! I loved the class and it was interesting and had a lot of good information. I recommend going to class and reading the book since a lot of her questions come from the book and her notes. Highly recommend this teacher and this class!!!
Dani is the best teacher I've met at CSUSB. She wants her students to learn & succeed in life really. 3 mult choice exams & a cumulative make-up exam if you need to miss 1 of them! No excuse needed! Extra credit offered. There are 10 SIMPLE online quizzes. Her lectures include real life scenarios to paint CLEAR pictures. Thank God for Dani Hodge!
GREAT teacher as many have already said. She talks a little fast some times so make sure if you didn't catch something to raise your hand. Class consisted of a movie seires that went along with our textbook, online quizzes, in class worksheets and 3 tests. Good class overall. ^^
Simple, interesting professor. 3 tests and 5 in class activities. She posts study guides and lectures online, book isn't necessary. This is my second time taking her and I will be taking her again next quarter. She speaks her mind and makes the subject matter interesting. Thank you, Hodge, for being awesome!
Do not take this class with her!She is awful! No book which saves money but she has tons of assignments worth tons of points and does not teach a thing and will seriously tell you to "look it up online". I am glad I pay tuition to use google to teach me things! She has tons of assignments and grades hard as if she taught the material. Do not take!!
She was a very fun teacher. She gave lots of examples. She might get a little off topic with her examples but still gets back on topic. She also gives study guides which is a lot of help. I really enjoyed taking her, I will defenitely take her again. There's extra credit and 3 exams.
not a fan! but the class is easy, so take it even though she is a bit annoying and talks waaaaay to much about her family. grades for the tests come back way late, but tests are also based on lecture so you have no reason to not do well
Dani is such a nice teacher! She makes the class interesting and fun. I got a B in her class. It was really easy. Take this class instead of Phil 200 trust me, that class is way too hard!!! She gives you a study guide and will help you tremendously do well on the midterm and final! Nice teacher! One of my favorites at CSUSB!
3 Exams (Final worth 40% of grade). Final not cumulative. 8 Online, open-notes, reading quizzes. In-class assignments at random. Study Guide/Lecture Notes available on Blackboard. Attendance is strongly recommended since she clearly outlines what will be covered on the tests. Extra Credit available. An interesting class and a great teacher.
Super nice. not cool with phones out during class. show up to class pay attention to the lecture and read the study guides. Her lectures are actually interesting...and we watched a couple videos too!
Dani is amazing! Go to class and pay attention. Exams are based on lecture. I rented the text book but didn't use it once and received an A.
Dani is a lovely person and gives amazing powerpoint based lectures. If you speak in class you get a participation point, and you need 15 points to get full credit for participation. This means you only have to attend 15 classes a semester. Tests are a lot more complicated then lectures, meaning you have to really know concept applications.
Dani is a great professor. Her lectures are interesting and informative. She has a great personality and encourages participation and questions in class. There are only three tests in the class, all of which were fairly easy as long as you paid attention to her lectures.
Professor Hodge is one of the best professors I have ever taken! She makes the material easy to remember with her hilarious anecdotes. She gives out study guides for her exams and if you study off of it, you'll do just fine. I didn't even read the book and got an A in her class. She does give out participation points and attendance matters.
Ask one question and hear a 10-15 minute tangent. Too important of a class to take with this instructor.
I took Dani thru recommendation by a friend. She was amazing, gives great examples, answers all questions, and grades fairly. She does use a lot of personal stories but I feel like those helped in understanding topics that may have otherwise been confusing. Definitely recommend her!
No homework but be ready to take notes; notes are important part to review for test. Textbook not needed for class but helpful to prepare/review for Test. Easy class, few tests, easy quizzes, interesting class. She gives a lot of personal stories which are helpful when taking tests. I made mistake of not looking over text & lowered my grade.
Great Professor, attendance is a must, 2 exams, one final, online quizzes, lectures are interesting felt more like a discussion sometimes.
Attendance is mandatory because she takes role and make sure you do all the reading. Hands down one of the BEST professors I have ever had at CSUSB. She lectures very well and gives concise examples that help you remember all the information. Her exams are incredibly easy as long as you do the reading and go to class.
Relies heavily on student participation. Gives stories that relate to the subject for comprehension, likewise enjoys hearing them.
If you are planning to take her, start studying since day one if not you'll end up with a horrible grade. I stressed so much on her class!!
Advanced seminar is an extremely work heavy class. There are 2 exams (including final), 8 online quizzes, a huge literature review paper (main project), and presentation. Every single class there were labs due. Be prepared to work hard and spend a lot of time outside of class researching and writing. I never bought the book, but attended every lec.
Tests have textbook material and FAPE documents, so make sure you study those because they are a large portion of the grade. Homework consists of watching a movie or clip about children and you have to write your reflection on it. It's fairly simple but I advise you include concepts and methods in your paper. She is fun and really loves children
usual amount of work but one thing i did not like was the we needed to pay for this ridiculous attendance app, like tuition isn't already enough you make us fork out more money for being on time. there's online quizzes you complete throughout lecture
She is fake nice. In class she will pretend like she cares but in reality she does not care if you pass or fail. The class revolves around reading 20 plus articles. The actual info in the class is stuff you can just google and get the same info, and she knows it. This is why she emphasizes attendance. She honestly is not a good professor.
Study hard for the exams by reading the articles. Mandatory participation points, so you're forced to talk every class. Final is worth 40%. Does not help with application paper. Does not follow her Syllabus. She says thing through email and something different in class. Mandatory attendance check in before and after class. Graded by few things.
3 multiple choice exams, all come with study guides 1 makeup if you miss an exam (+study guide) Compare and contrast essay on two documentaries Honestly didn't open the book once, lecture and study guides are all you need for exams Her lectures are solid af, funny and relevant to the content 10/10 would take again
i read good things but this wasnt it. i seriously knew more about her family life than actual material. she talks SO much. i was interested in the class and it sucked. 3 exams but ur attendance matters everyday. you ask one question and she goes off on a tangent. her review r for the easiest class but upper divisions dont take her.
The class itself isn't that hard. It is really hard to get an A and she lets you know that when reviewing the syllabus. She lectures with a fake sweet voice. The tests are very tricky.
Professor Hodge has interesting lectures, but the first couple of classes gives lots of labs. The tests are kinda difficult (don't rely so much on study guides. Every point matters, final exam was worth 200pts.! She gives participation pts. and extra credit opportunities. Overall she is a sweet lady, but can also be straight forward when needed.
For a pre-req she requires so much. Tends to go off topic, is fake nice. Seems approachable but will make you feel kinda dumb at times. Makes you purchase a book to do a paper on. Tests are tough. Mandatory attendance and points.
Her lectures are interesting/funny and wont bore you. However the curriculum in class is what I didnt like. Participation is necessary for your grade. And the group presentation is extra when its only 20points in my opinion it should be more. Also final is hard 25fill ins. Makes you sign in & out. Dont miss class all points count.
Dr. Hodge's class was one of the best HD classes I've taken. Her lectures are life-related which makes it interesting. Her book is required for her exams and there is a group activity and paper at the end of the quarter. You need to attend her classes for participation. She also offers extra credit.
It's an okay class. She talks a lot about her family and that gets kind of annoying. She seems like a nice person and gives extra credit. Study guides are helpful but her tests have weird wording and can be kind of confusing. Just be prepared to do a lot of learning on your own.
She takes attendance on blackboard so be on time, she barely addresses the book in exams so its not really needed, and overall shes great to take this class with. Shes really nice and tells interesting stories. She also has lots of extra credit!
Loved this class! I took it online, just watch the lectures, take notes and do the reading. There are quizzes, videos, and discussions to do. The class is extremely interesting and she makes her lectures interesting too.
took her for CD 3398 she is a good lecturer and tests are based on the lecture. you have to get participation points and attendance counts for points as well. she is a tough grader she has high expectations and does not bend them for anything! the final is a paper and presentation which the presentation is extra, not a fan of it.
Each week we had something due a chapter quiz or discussion post (300 words & comment on 3 classmates 100 words each). Other than that there are no exams just reading quizzes where you read an article and take a 5-question quiz. She does not post grades until the very end so it's frustrating not knowing your current grade throughout the course.
This class was extremely frustrating bc 300/400 of the points are composed of tests. To get an A in the class, you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT get a B on any of the tests. Her tests are confusing and not worded very well. She provides EC but its pointless. She goes off tangent A LOT, didn't learn much. Not happy at all, my first college "B" in my 4th year.
Easy class, literally watch the lectures and take notes and you will be just fine. the book helped alot on quizzes. She has three discussion boards (along with a mini quiz that tie into the discussion boards as well) for the DB make sure you tie your answer with the book/lecture + video! 7 quizzes in total.Overall this class was super helpful.
dont really understand how she has a 4.5 rating at the moment. She locked our grades the whole semester so we had no idea what our grade was. She was rude every time I messaged her for help like if I inconvenienced her and she was always off on some tangent of her life every lecture we had. My first B here at CSUSB because of her grading
I have taken Hodge in other classes before and it wasn't that bad. But be aware do not take her for CD4498! She grades completely different and takes off points for little things. She has the LRA assignments which is so much work for only a few points. Everyone in my class has the same issues with her
I take the class 2270, it was in person, the professor was so hard on student, her lecture was so heavy, and you have to read all the textbook to understand, the way he explain the lecture was very complicated. her exam was so tricky my first exam i read all the textbook, and I study for 2 weeks and I got 65 DONT TAKE COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR.
Although she is very kind, I did not like that the exams were a majority of your grade. Out of 400 points, 300 were for the exams alone. She has 4 exams 3 of them are on certain chapters and one of them is cumulative. The cumulative exam is optional, and she will drop the lowest exam score. If you're not good at taking tests, don't take this class.
Quizzes are ridiculous and lectures do not help. Do not take this professor.
She tests very heavily on her lectures so attendance is important. Be sure to pay attention to her examples because it will come back up on exams. She is very caring but does stick to her rules so don't expect her to bend them that being said she will work with you if you are struggling.
I truly believe that she is a great teacher. She is old school so she makes you test in person with no notes but she only requires you to memorize a maximum of 10 slides a week and she provides a study guide. If you read, participate in lecture, and show up you will get a good grade!! It was a challenge for sure but I learned a lot!
You definitely have to work for your grade in this class. Most of her test questions are based on her lectures so attendance and good note taking is crucial. However, I found her class to be really valuable and I learned so much. She is a great professor and very knowledgeable. Overall I enjoyed the course.
Yes, CD4498 was a difficult class, but it's meant to be. It's ADVANCED child and family development. You have to be more diligent and on top of your work, but it's not impossible. The professor has great lectures and breaks down assignments to lighten the load. I get not every professor works for everyone, but I always learn best from Prof. Hodge.
RUN! Unless you are a phenomenal test taker, good luck passing this class. Class consists of her talking the entire time about her personal life and how it applies to the concept in class. The only issue is that she NEVER actually give definition to those concepts. Her class is made up of 3 exams that make up ALOT of your grade as well as a paper.
Lectures were primarily focused on her personal life. In no way shape or form did she help us prepare for her exams which were extremely hard to understand. She grades so heavily on attendance when she first claimed it “ wouldn't even count” She always mixes up her wording and contradicts herself. Do not take. She is also very rude and sarcastic.
Always sit in the front of her class and participate and you will get a good grade! It has been months since I took her class and I still remember a lot of what she taught in class! She did make us take exams in class without notes but she provided study guides and easy to understand powerpoints. I love her and am taking her again.
She is great at giving lectures, but she gets a little carried away when she incorporates her personal life into the lectures. Some ratings about how her exams were in class with no notes but in this class we could do the exams anywhere on our computers. She is nice but there were times she was a little rude. She grades papers heavily and is picky,
If you have the choice do not take this Professor for this class. She is very specific in what she wants while also being super unhelpful when trying to ask for feedback. She is tough grader, I was almost sure this class was going to drop my GPA. I have never been more stressed out about school than I was taking this class this semester.
Avoid at all costs
