Excellent and clear steaching style
He is the best teacher in math!
Awesome math teacher...and they are hard to find. He explains everything very well and is reasonable on tests. Not a hard class and you learn a lot.
He is ok...his test are multiple choice so if you like that, then go ahead...
I recommend this professor for students who needs to understand Math. He makes complicated Math to an easy understanding math.
Very good at explaining the methods for solving different problems. Well organized. Pleasant personality.
His lectures are really clear. Math is very difficult for me but he makes it much easier to understand. I highly recommend this professor. His tests are multiple choice.
Daniel Aka = The best math teacher you will ever find in college. He is kind and is dedicated to to teaching his students.
Great teacher!!!
It's extremely difficult to follow him. He doesn't have patience, and he is very unorganized. There is no homework, no role taking, and quizzes are easy. But you will not be prepared for future math classes.
Daniel Aka is without question the best math teacher I have ever had, he makes difficult math very easy to understand and he gives you clear instructions on how to solve hard problems easy. SMC should hire him full-time so more students can take him.
Mr. Aka is the BEST math teacher I have ever had at SMC. If you need clear percise instruction to solve those difficult math problems, then Aka is the instructor for you. SMC should hire him full-time so that more students can benefit from his teaching!
not much homework, exams are not hard if you know the chapter. grade based on hw, exams and final. explains everything, and prepares you for the exams.
Very informative! Breaks-down math problems in a simple step by step system so that you are well prepared for homework and exams! Exams are fair and are based on the material covered in class. So if you want an "A" take Math with Aka.
He's the best math teacher. He explains everything so easy that it's so easy to understand.
This is a really good teacher, Highly recommended. He explains very thoroughly and is clear in his method of teaching. He also gives hints and reviews for the final.
very bad teacher and is not good at all b.o.o.l.s.h.i.t. class and teacher don;t take him is not good is easy F
He has a following. Most of his students come back, and I am one of them. I love his classes and I will miss him in Math 52. Take him. He is great. Do the homework, follow your lecture notes and you will get an A. I hate math and he made it easy for me.
Excellent teacher. Makes math seem easy to learn and he is funny. The classes are always interesting.
DECENT TEACHER. I DONT REALLY KNOW IF HIS TEACHING STYLE WILL HELP IN HARDER CLASSES. IF MATH IS YOUR LAST STOP THEN I THINK HE IS THE BEST TEACHER AROUND. OVERALL HE IS A NICE GUY.
Professor Aka is an extremely kind and compassionate teacher. If you work hard, go to class, do all homework, and still do fair to poor on your exams...talk to him, he will do everything in his power to help you pass the class. Communication is the key. Take him if you want to pass!!
Mr.Aka is honestly one in an million... Great professor as well as a great friend to the students.Everything is well detailed and the exams are beyond fair.He has an amazing personality and he is full of jokes...He is fair to everyone and will help you out in any way possible to make sure you pass.
The perfect teacher to have after 18 years of not studying math. Put all my apprenhension away. One of the best teachers at SMC. He puts forth a lot of effort in his teaching. Sometimes it made me feel he deserved better students.
Recommended to take, very easy teacher! Lets you have a formula sheet. Tests are not hard either. An easy A.
He speaks with such a heavy accent that no one could understand him ; he doesn't explain anything and his homework assignments dont allow one to grasp the material.
i hate math but i loved professor Aka's teaching style
prof.aka is a doll. ive never excelled in math bc i had****ty teachers. professor aka is the****. he's very fair, drops your lowest grade and will take time to tutor you. and his accent isnt so bad that you cant understand him, it just makes him cuter. you dont have to teach yourself, he does a great job. honestly you will be so glad you did.
What a wonderful teacher. Great sense of humor; very interested in his students excelling; and enjoys what he does. Taking his class is well worth the time.
Aka is an awsome teacher! If you show interest in your grade so will he. He has a Nigerian accent so sit towards the front. He writes simple notes and cooperates with the Learning Disabilities program. Tests on every chapter, 20 questions 2 are word problems. Final is accumulative and drops the lowest test. Gives extra credit 4 typed homework.
Excellent teacher. I am a true HATER of math but he made it fun. He is very comical. Makes you feel relaxed and he is very helpful
He is an excellent prof. I would love to have him for all of my future math classes. He explains everything and there are no surprises on the test. If you take good notes in class you will do fine.
Prof Aka is an excellent teacher,he is professional in explanation, give us the perfect and easiest notes ,just follow his lesson, take notes you will love math, it will become your favorite subject. His language is not hard,we can understand him with no problem, his exman is not a surprise or hard but you need to follow all his lessons
I think Mr Aka is a very nice man, but he does not give you extra help if you need it. It seemed like he did not want you to pass the class. He does drop one of your test scores.I will not take another one of his courses.
Gets upset when students ask to many questions. Explains solutions in may forms and is very confusing. Makes students afraid to ask questions by his attitude.
very chill prof. nice guy, lectures are to the point. quzies every session but if your good at math or put in a few hours to preare for the exams you should have no problem
sweet person but not good at teaching. quizes/tests are not hard, but lectures are confusing. don't expect after class help as he has a busy life. avoid asking qestions cos he sees them as confrontations. i'm usually an A student but got a B in his class. my suggestion is that take him for non-transferable courses so you can pass easily.
I've taken him for 3 Math classes and his teachings are clear to me. I don't know what everybody is telling that he is horrible. He does get upset to other students who does not listen or just there just to take his class. But in general, he is great and helpful to me and others. He makes hard subject to easy for everyone to understand. A+
I really enjoyed Mr. Aka and thought his explanations were clear. Yes, he has an accent but it doesn't interfere with his clarity on the subject matter. He doesn't tolerate people who don't pay attention and those who like to talk while he's lecturing. Pay attention and do the lab work, you'll be just fine.
Terrible. Spends ages entertaining really stupid questions from really stupid students. Math is tedious enough without him catering to the dummies in the class. Tests are multiple choice and easy.
i took his class beased on comments here, but oh didnt i make a mistake. half of the class withdrew! he has the worst african accent, u CAN NOT understand a word he says. He is verrry ARROGANT and refuses to explain things over and does not like it when you try to correct his mistakes on the board or just simply ask him to repeat!!! if you need to learn geo, do not take him, seriously.
It was a cool class. I really learn something..
Very confusing teacher. Doesn't teach from the book, so don't waste your money on it. Doesn't go over the exams, never returns the homework (so you don't learn from your mistakes). The HW doesn't go along w/ the book, I think he's useing the same HW from another Uni. he teaches at. Gives unrealistic assignments. Always seems spaced out and tired.
Come on guys, he is the best math prof. in smc!! I admit that his class is a bit hard but what did you expect.. a walk on the park?? I took Aka for my math 84,31, and 20. I missed him a great deal in my stat. class. Do the hw.,Do not skip any chapter in the book and do not talk in class.. IT IS ANNOYING!!! and you will have fun in his class. A++
he is awesome professor. I recommend him to all, he is v.clear , give you the key to solve any problems. His exams are not hard just follow his instructions, do the homework . You will love math because of him.
The guy is knows his stuff, He is a fair teacher. He wants his students to do well, he gives some extra credit and drops your lowest grade. His teaching style is great,He teaches step by step and can make math fun in a way. Oh one more thing, show him respect. Don't act like a dumb high school kid or talk disrupt his lectures cause he'll get mad
DO not take him, if u have to take more math classes. he is always spaced out and confused, very very thick accent that makes it hard to understand anything he sayd. not organized and makes too many mistakes when teaching. he is also very rude if you ask him to explain a problem twice. do not take this guy if u have more math to take. u wont learn!
One of SMC's best Math teacher! His step-by-step teaching style breaks down math problems thoroughly & comprehensively (even the most seemingly complicated ones). Gives extra credit & a lot of chances to pull up your grade when you feel a little iffy. Overall good, even during the intense short 6-week winter sem
This professor made me love math again.

Very Good Professor. Before I took this class I did not like math and thought I was incapable of passing the subject, he was very detailed and took baby steps in showing us how to complete problems. I am pleased I took his class and I highly recommend it. he makes the class fun and interesting too. Today I can say that I enjoy practicing Math.
He is one of the best Math teacher at SMC. His step-by-step method is a real learning tool to understand all his materials. I only hated his multiple choice tests.
If you can get through his accent, he is good teacher. The material isn't easy, but he does his best to lay it out in a way you can understand. I got a C and am defenitly not a math person.
What can I say about Aka? Math 84 with him is a smart choice. All his homework is NOT from the book. He makes it himself. Sounds scary? only twenty questions and the same on tests, which are all scantron. Best method for me in Math. I think I'd take him again.
Professor Aka is the funniest teacher at SMC hands down even though he doesn't crack jokes in front of the class. as if his matching out fits were not funny enough, his accent is as thick and buttery as can be. im almost positive i failed his class, but that was on my own terms...the final is in 35 minutes and im high as a cloud...enjoy
Seriously the worst teacher I have ever taken. Two semesters ago I got a 99% in math, A+. Then I took AKA and might FAIL. The final is 60% of your grade, you fail the final you fail the class, you get a D in the final you get a D in the class. He is so bad. I had to meet with my tutor 3 times a week just to get by...If you want to pass, do not take
I am afraid the person before me was always "high as a cloud." these kind of students should not come to class. They are annoying and disruptive. Mom and dad must be proud... meanwhile, I recommend Prof. Aka. I took him for math 84,31 and 20. Buy the book, do the hw, follow his method, and have fun.. I am a ESL student, got an A..he is great..
Ha-ha those people from 84 I think I have a good idea who they are. But regardless let's put it this way: If you don't mind taking a night class, take him. He comes late, deal with it. He's got a thick accent, deal with it. He goes fast, deal with it. I'll never forget that class funniest guy ever...serious, an easy A if you actually try.
Great, great professor! His conceptual explanations of high level algebra are totally understandable! Class atmosphere is relaxed and fun to be in (for algebra), just don't mess around too much... I must say I was VERY fortunate to have Prof. Aka as a teacher for my first math class in over 5 years. Advice: STUDY GROUP in the Math Lab!!
His writing and speaking are both ineligible. If you can get through his accent and scribbles - congratulations to you. to his credit however - nice website, don't miss the chance to print out the common final in the first couple of weeks.
Professor Aka announced in class more than 3 times "why am I even here?, just look at my website" and "I am glad you are not like the other class who ask way too many questions." He tries to show off his own math skills instead of teaching us math. He only does 1-2 problems per chapter and pick the hardest ones.Careless/reckless, makes us sit&wait
I got an A, cool class-lecture.He lectures his own techniques which are ok.He has a repulsive preference for attractive females;3 retarded girls in my class were disrespectful by calling him "dude" or so... and he tolerated only from those girls... sad.
he is sooooo good! u will learn! he does go over math problems he knows was up take him.
If all you want to do is pass Math 20, then he's your guy. If you're planning to take more advanced math classes after Math 20 and actually want to learn most of the material, then you'll probably want to take someone else. Not that you won't learn it with him, but it seems like his class is more like a math crash-course.
Class is based off of 6 tests, no quizzes, and a total of 6 homework assignments. The homework is very easy, between 20-30 problems for 3-4 chapters. He does most of the problems in class. He drops your worst test score of the 6. Tests are pretty easy, just pay attention in class. Advice: Make sure he knows your face and likes you (participate
I forgot to do this last Summer when I took his class. He is great. He goes over and makes you do many problems in class-be prepared to go up and do problems on the black board, so pay attention. He is patient and quick to get grades posted. If you don't show up and don't participate-then how can you enjoy a class. I would take him for math 20!
He is helpful as long as you ask. If it is an evening class he won't answer quetions during break. I received a B in the class which was well worth it. Test are easy if you do your work.
He is a wonderful teacher. Beware: he tries to scare students off during the 1st week of class. But he is really nice. He helps with homework and gives you answers so you can cross-reference. Tests are multiple choice and he drops the lowest score. A little difficult to understand his accent, but he makes up for it with the examples on the board.
best class i ever took he is so cool take this class i passed and i am bad at math but he maid it easy!!
This is by far the worst teacher I've ever had, he wouldn't answer any questions, he would yell at students who had the an incorrect answer. Daniel Aka, is just terrible, if you want a happy experience then DO NOT take this class, you will regret it.
Prof. Aka is a great professor. He does have a strong accent but that isn't much trouble as he takes the time to explain the problems through. He will help you when you don't understand something, and he compliments student when they're doing something right.
Mr. Aka is by far the best math teacher. He is extremely helpful and caring. He will make sure everyone in the class understands the problem before he moves on. Attendance is key in his class! He made math a great experience for me and I highly recommend him.
This teacher gave me a D, even though I did my homework, and did my lab hours, and studied hard. I am very intelligent, and do not get Ds when I do my homework and my lab hours and study. This teacher had decided the first day of class that I was not smart enough for math 81. I got a B in the math class before this one with no problem.
Mr. Aka is the worst teacher and I use the word teacher very losely, I have ever experienced. He will not answer questions during break. He does not like to work out problems on the board. He is not helpful at all. He does not respond to your emails.
Awful professor. He goes over one or two problems per section and expects you to get it. On multiple occassions, students asked questions, and he had no idea how to answer them. One time he said, "I can't explain it, you just do it like this." DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES.
Daniel is awesome!! You have to study though! You dont have to show up. He doesn't mind. But he dont like lazy students. He really teaches and he really demands and expects a lot from the students. He explains everything on the easiest way!
he is a very good professor. before i came to him i was receiving C's in math now i get A's
The worst experienced I ever had in math. You as a question he will cut you off in mid-sentence and tell you that's what the lab is for. He's rude. Drops if you miss two classes. At begining semester 40 students. At the end five students. I could go on but what's the point? Two prior students wrote letter's to Dean. Pick him if u want but b warned
Had him in the fall and hes really nice and gives little homework unlike other teachers who gives 1-90 problems a section..he lets us out early like at 8:30-9:00 alot of times. i had him from 7:35-10:00 class and he let us out that early. if you study you will get a good grade.
He needs to take a few English classes. He also needs to stop falling asleep in class, and should not have favorites that he lets slip out of class that happen to be attractive females...
Professor Aka, is a great math professor. He really knows his stuff. He is very helpful, if you want to learn mathematics, and not feel overwhelmed take his class. He really does care for his students. His homework is perfect, not too much or too little. Good luck!
Very Very easy class, although I am a math person. I played on my phone most the time, mostly due to the fact that he was very difficult to understand due to his accent. He definitely has a passion for teaching, and if it wasn't for his accent he would do it well.
this guy ruined my semester... take his class if passing this class is the only thing you want. i got an A from him but I have no idea how I am going to survive in my next math class. good luck people.
Aka displayed no interest in the material and all but refused to answer questions, stating "you should read the book". He never once gave a testh that didn't have errors on it, sometimes MANY! One time he changed a test date TWO DAYS before the test. I would not recommend this professor, at least not for night classes...
He is very good teacher!!:) Very nice!
Terrible teacher, never greets the class, will openly mock you in front the class. Constantly makes mistakes and isnt helpful at all.
Good teacher, knows his stuff. Always willing to answer questions. The homework assignments are short, he does give extra work, but you don't turn it in. Tests are multiple choice. He doesn't always explain things well, but just ask him to clarify.
He is a good proffesor
Aka is unbelievably frustrating. Out of 7 tests, only one has not had an error on it. I'm not talking about simple typos, but the answer is not even on the test. Then he gets mad when someone has a question about the test! He constantly makes mistakes with examples on the board and often says he's too tired to lecture so work amongst yourselves
Recommend not taking his class in the summer/winter and also at night. Although it is an easy class because all of the tests are multiple choice, he is very hard to understand due to his accent, and he gets really over teaching the subject if your in a night class. Attendance is KEY, he will take a full letter grade for missing too many classes.
Worse math teacher ever. He doesn't explain the material. He expects you to understand how to do the problems before he even explains it. Hard to understand and never checks homework. Do not take this teacher
He has become very lazy this semester. He rarely ever uses the book, and never gives you homework. Not getting homework is bad, because then you don't study for the test. Although they are scantron they are hard. I felt like he really rushed his lectures, he didn't really spend enough time on each subject.
Poor lectures, rushed through practice problems, impatient with questions, fell asleep often, failed to notice cheating during tests, errors on tests... If you're solid with your math comprehension, you'll do okay. If you need the professor to teach you, find a different professor.
Unfortunately this professor does a lot of sitting around and lets the students figure things out for themselves. We are currently working from the new edition of the math book while the professor is teaching from the previous edition. Therefore, the handouts that he gives out reflect the previous edition he has and does not have the same info...
Worst math teacher! couldn't understand lectures since he faced the board most of the time making his accent even harder to understand. Doesn't clarify question or go into detail to explain them when he does. Arrives late, but lets you leave early. Do not take this teacher if you struggle with math. You will fail otherwise!
Aka knows his stuff, but he doesn't want to share it with anyone. He would roll his eyes and mock wrong answers, then ask if we had questions. Why would we want to ask and be treated like we are idiots? We worked in class alone more than he lectured. He assigned no homework so all grades were dependent on 6 tests alone. Be ready to self-teach.
I started this class a couple weeks late, and I had a hard time catching up in the beginning. Attending the class is crucial- every chapter he will bring a worksheet for students, and this is the main material for the class. Tests are multiple choice, and the class will work on a review sheet beforehand :) If you want to succeed, motivate yourself!
I took Math 84 @ PAC Campus in Spring Semester. I had to take the class after work n I only skipped once even tho I was late for the class normally. I had very enjoyable semester and I learned a lot from Prof Aka. He gives very clear lecture and good feedback, and we had great group work also. If you are weak at math, take him. Easy to understand.
His accent can be thick but if you ask he'll try to find a clearer path to understanding. He's pretty chill and influences participation and peer discussions on material (I really liked working with my classmates on problems, it helped me remember many formulas). You are not allowed calculators, write out a times table chart (shows effort).
He changed the way I saw math and really helped me a lot! I was having trouble and hadn't taken math in a couple years, and i feel like he taught me several different ways that I could use to solve equations. He will help you if you need it, and will answer any questions you have.
Amazing professor! I had taken math 85 twice but was very hard for me to pass with other professors. Definitely recommend professor Aka if you're not so good at math like myself. He is very clear! Felt like he was kind of confident about himself but who wouldn't be if you're great at what you do. Recommend taking during summer or winter!!
Prof. Aka is great! He answers all questions and he's funny. Speak up! Don't be afraid. He will explain things one on one, too. He encourages working with others and actually practicing the problems in class which helps to learn. Fast paced Winter course was multiple choice on exams. Go to class, pay attention, and practice! Highly recommend.
Professor Aka is tough, and doesn't always explain things in a clear fashion. I had to reword my questions, and spend some more time on the math because of the unclearness. However, he is a great professor and is incredibly smart. While he will NOT let you out early, he requires a lot of work inside the class with otherstudents which is veryhelpful
I've had two classes with Dr. Aka now. He'll have the class print out a handout, and then will explain the problems by going through the hardest ones together, then give the class time to work on it with each other. He's cool, and willing to help if you don't understand something. Show up, participate, use tutors, and do the handouts.
