a really smart guy. he needs to stop kissing his own ass though. tries his best to explain the material, you can tell he really cares. goes out of his way to make hundreds of xerox copies from better textbooks for us. kinda annoying. i didn't really like him. but a very good T.A. probably one of the best for chemistry.
he is a good TA. helps out students as much as possible. respectful and nice. my friend did not like him because my friend hated chemistry so my friend hated him by default. all in all he is awesome. take his class if he still teaches.
he is the man!!! very helpful and insightful. likes to help with chemistry but you can ask him about anything. if you ever need to talk to someone about college life talk to him. very open-minded and down to earth. he is also very fair with grading and gives second chances.
helpful and tries to get the point quick. explains the material in ways everyone can understand. he is nice and open-minded.
good TA. helpful and nice.
Probably one of the best TAs' to ever walk this planet. The guy is genuinely helpful, knows his stuff, understands what undergrads go through. I am glad he was my TA and now a friend.
the best TA i've ever had. show up to recitation everytime and just pay attention. doesn't get any better than Dan.
sick ta, loved him, helped me pass the final with a C
He is the BEST stick with him and you'll pass the class with atleast a B. Very helpful and understandable
Had him as a tutor and he is great. He is easy to understand and puts everything in words that are clear.
Awesome TA!!!!!!!
AMAZING!! LOVE HIM!!
Dr. Amarante is a true gem. His lectures are very clear and informative but he mixes in jokes to break up the monotony. Material is hard but its chem so what did you expect. Do the Aleks and the textbook assignments and you'll do fine. Uses clicker questions for attendance. Taking him again next semester because I like him so much.
An amazing professor. I emailed him at 12 am and he emailed back within 3 minutes. he explained the answer to my question perfectly. his lectures are also the best out of all of the chem professors. He cares so much about his students and always goes the extra mile in making sure everyone understands the concepts. Fave professor :)
Professor Amarante is a fantastic and caring professor. His lectures are easy to follow, but you must work for the grade. He genuinely cares for his students success and is very accessible outside the classroom. He is truly a gem (although he unfortunately teaches the hybrid chemistry courses). I love this man.
Professor Amaranate is awesome. His lectures are extremely helpful; he always makes sure to explain things in a way that is easy to understand. He'll usually take some extra time to explain especially difficult concepts. He also has plenty of resources available, and will make sure you're well-prepared for the exams. I would definitely recommend.
Dr. Amarante is a great professor who always takes the time to explain the things he says and is always willing to go the extra mile for kids who don't quite understand (case in point, his review sessions until 1:30 am). He was very accommodating once everything went online too and totally understood what students were going through!
He's a really good teacher and a nice guy. He does a really good job explaining things thoroughly. He replies to his emails and tries to help in as many ways as he can. Definitely take his hybrid class if you can.
I had Dr Nagan for che 132, but Dr Amarante's review sessions for his sections saved me. His review sessions for the final were great and I kind of wish I had chosen his class instead.
Out of my 4 years at Stony Brook this is my favorite professor. So caring, and educational. I'm horrible at Chem & I took it my second time with him. First time I literally failed, and now I got an A. Sometimes its not the course itself, but rather your professor. Seriously take him if you struggle in science. Responds to emails so quick, THE BESTT
This is no doubt one of the most talented professors at Stony Brook. He not only takes effort to explain each topic clearly but his pacing allows you to follow without fear of getting lost. He is patient and he is thorough with a sense of humor and genuine care for his work. Listen to me, register to his class.
Amazing teacher that really cares for his students.
Great teacher and a great guy. Has lots of patience and always willing to explain anything you need. If youre not great in chem, take his class!
Dr. Amarante is one of the few professors who genuinely cares about his students' wellbeing. He is an amazing professor, who teaches content through easy to understand concepts. He often hosts extra review sessions for his students, which are recorded for later studying assistance. Overall, he is a great professor and a great person!
He is a really good professor!!!! He is really good at teaching and is really chill. He is willing to spend he's own time to help us. Best professor I had!!!!
Dr. Amarante is an amazing professor who really cares about the success of his students. He gives in depth information and really good lectures. His office hours and review sessions are amazing. He even takes the time late at night to hold study sessions for anyone who needs it. 5/5 rating. He goes beyond what average professors do.
As Im writing this, its 2am on zoom and hes helping us review for our next exam. I mean, what more do I have to say about a teacher that stays up until 2am+ for you?
Dr. Amarante is the best gen chem professor by far. I am not in his class but his feedback and review sessions are an absolute lifesaver. He really cares about every single one of his thousands of students and goes above and beyond to help them understand chemistry. All around amazing guy, 100% recommend
Amarante is so insightful and guides you in the right direction. He is just so good at teaching. If you're unable to complete assignments for a valid reason, he'll extend it for you no questions asked. He makes himself so available, specifically through GroupMe. He currently teaches CHE 131 (G. Chem IB), 132 (G. Chem II), 154 (MolSci Lab).
Took che 132 with him. Hes very caring and funny. I took this course in the summer to get ahead and I was one point away from making a B+, so i emailed him about it and he gave me the point. I wish he could teach all of my chem courses sadly he doesnt teach orgo. He makes every topic straight to the point and simple.
Though Amarante was not my teacher, I did attend his lectures over my own professors because he was that good. He is very caring and you can easily tell he genuinely wants to teach chemistry rather than just read off the slides. He has a passion for it and makes chemistry interesting.

bruh i just watched his review video and its literally the only reason imma pass this test he STAYED UP TILL 3 AM REVIEWING WITH US WHAT KIND OF PROFESSOR WOULD DO THAT STONY BROOK GIVE THIS GUY A RAISE I CANT BC I ONLY HAVE 2 DOLLARS IN MY BANK ACCOUNT
it is currently 4:04 am and we JUST finished our review session for the exam. no he does not get extra pay for this he does it because he cares about his students doing well. i dont think any professor would sacrifice SLEEP TILL 4 AM especially if he had an early morning the next day. enough said. take him. THE best.
He is truly amazing like everyone else is saying. He stays up late to help students who are struggling in not ONLY his class but other chemistry classes, he's clear and concise, and above all he's kind. I don't even have him as my official teacher, but watching his reviews and emailing him has helped me get through chemistry.
Professor Amarante is outstanding. I am a blind student, chemistry with vision is tough so try to imagine what it's like to have to do it with none. This professor went above and beyond for me and was a great support to me when I was struggling. I highly recommend him- he's awesome! he'll never make you feel small. Always there to help, the best!
Goat.
(Ignore my bad grade, I suck at chemistry and was lousy) - Amarante was probably the most understanding professor I have ever had. The reviews don't lie. He will stay up late just to make sure we understand the material. He wants everybody to pass the class. It's easy to fall behind like me... Stay on top of things, you'll be fine if you work hard.
Dr. Amarante is truly one of the best teachers I've ever had. He gives interesting lectures, answers questions thoroughly, and stays up until 2 AM helping students before exams. Take him if you can!!!
The class is hard, but he's easily accessible and hosts review sessions before every test. Clicker attendance is also part of the grade!
Dr. Amarante is a great professor. His exam reviews are amazing. He really breaks it down for everyone to understand. He makes chemistry fun and relatable. His lectures are easy to understand and follow. His notes are very detailed. So glad to have had him as a professor.
He is caring, understanding and overall a great professor. I would have failed the class if it were not for his reviews. Seriously the reviews are until 3am but so worth it and they are recorded. You can see how much he loves chemistry. Definitely take him if you can. If not, make sure you attend his reviews. Life saver.... Thank you Dr. A
All I can say is thank you Dr. A... Awesome professor. Wish he was teaching Orgo. Took him over the 2020summer and he really prepared us for Orgo. First two weeks of Orgo was a breeze because of his notes. Really allowed me to settle in the course.
Not a typo, it is PHY 131. Had Dr. Amarante last year for chem and remember him saying that he taught physics for years. Reached out for help and he was great. Showed his physics notes and it was so clear. If you need help with physics ask him. Just as passionate with physics as chemistry.
Dr Amarante is very nice and personable. The idea that all chemistry classes have cold mean professors is wrong, he is very helpful and considerate! He understands and listens to his students and genuinely wants them to do well. Thank you Dr A!
Despite not being my direct professor in 131, Dr A did everything in his power to make sure every student in the class would pass and understand the topics. He held multiple reviews that lasted throughout the night and is a very patient and knowledgeable man. Only thing he needs to improve on is time for himself because he sacrifices it all for us.
Dr. Amarante was an amazing professor. He would always hold a review the night before exams and clear up any questions anyone had, and would always try and make his lectures interesting. He definitely cares about his students!
AMAZINGGGGGGGG!!!! Everyone loves Dr. A
Dr. Amarante is a godsend. He will literally stay up until 5 am to do a review session during online learning. During said review sessions, he will go over quizzes, the lecture notes, and answer any questions. He also extends ALEKS and Mastering.
Dr. Amarante is by far the best professor I have ever had. He goes above and beyond for his students and is extremely understanding. He holds weekly review sessions during his free time as well as lengthy review sessions before the quizzes, in which he will stay up all night to make sure everyone is prepared. If you have the chance, take his class!
Ive never had him as my professor but he is amazing. Ive attended some of his lectures and he explains everything very thoroughly. Hes extremely down to earth and very approachable. I would 100% recommend you take any class with him as the professor. By far one of my favorites.
Dr. Amarante is probably the best professor at Stony Brook University. Everyone loves him because he not only goes above and beyond for his students, but is happy to help and always puts in the effort to make sure he is doing the most he possibly can all while making the class fun. He is not just an amazing professor, but an amazing person.
Dr. Amarante is an amazing professor! He truly cares about his students and their opinions. His review sessions really helped me throughout the course. He would stay up late at night up to 2,3 am doing exam practice problems or even explaining the concepts. He is one of the most helpful professors at Stony Brook University!
This man is a literal saint. You can tell that he sincerely cares for his students and wants them to succeed. During my semester, he spent hours of his own time reviewing content into early hours in the morning. Professors like him are rare. If you have the opportunity to take a class with Amarante, you're lucky.
10000 times better than my high school chemistry teacher. He's sometimes late to office hours but always makes up for it by extending it if we need. Very energetic and enthusiastic, he won't ever put you to sleep. This class is pretty fast-paced so don't rely on the lectures for complete understanding. Overall, Amarante is the absolute goat <333333
I wish more professor where like Dr. Amarante. He gives great pre-exam reviews from like 9 at night to 5 in the morning. He wont stop until every question answered, ever student has a understanding of the material. Truly caring professor that will go the extra mile for anyone of his students.
Dr. Amarante really cares about all of his students and tries his best to make sure that he does everything in his power to help out his students. The class is organized really well, and he is very informative during his review session.
Prof Amarante really is a gem professor. If you get the chance to take him, do it. He does super helpful review sessions that go pretty late into the night. He is a true lifesaver for the midterms and the final and he explains the concepts so well and in an understandable way. He won't stop until all questions are answers.
This man is an actual angel sent from heaven for all of CHE 129, CHE 131, and CHE 132 students. This man lives and breathes chemistry and he will make you love chemistry too. He is actually the best professor ever and explains everything in such an understandable way ... if you have the chance to take him... just do it trust me.
Probably the most caring professor you'll ever have. He gives a ton of extra credit assignments and is present in the 152 Groupme and Discord. He's really knowledgeable in inorganic chem, but there was so much material in this course that he couldn't get through all of it before he swapped with Raineri. Overall great he's just kind of disorganized.
He is a nice person but a terrible professor. He is very unorganized, has too much on his plate, and does not give feedback in a timely manner. Every lab we did had some sort of issue that he caused. He does not tell students what needs to be included in reports and expects us to know how to do calculations that were never taught.
Prof Amarante is awesome. Lab was a great way to understand what we did in class. Wish lab grades were given back sooner but that depends on the TA you got. I 100% disagree with the last review. He is a caring professor, one of the best in Stony Brook. I will say that we definitely need more equipment. Def. learned a lot from him. Def take him!!!
Dr. A is an amazing professor. Helpful, caring and makes chemistry fun. Def. take him... his reviews are super helpful.
This was a fun lab but there is a lot of work for certain lab reports. Definitely learn a lot of techniques. Dr. Amarante is very helpful and makes you think on your feet. Take him for lab and lecture.
Does the most for us: held up extra help sessions though did not have to like 5 hrs sometimes. Patient with questions, and accessible via email. Clear and simple lectures using drawing and easy math. Also offers some leeway in class by dropping some of the lowest grades for clicker/HW, and curving exams.
Hyped up for his great personality, but was often really disorganized (labs especially) and the class ended up giving more stress than it needed to. Still, great person and goes above and beyond to connect with students.
He is very knowledgeable. Knows how to make chemistry seem easy and fun. Definitely take him. Great personality. Really cares about the students.
Dr A is the best. The course is heavy but he does his best to make sure every student does well by giving extra credit and review sessions
He's the best. He cares for you like a good professor should. He knows how to use groupme and discord and has a wonderful sense of humor. Hes understanding and wants you to succeed. I wish he taugh lecture. LOVE HIM
Dr. A is an amazing professor. He's very connected to his students and does absolutely all he can to help us. His exams are on the more difficult side, however he could curve the exam if the average is low and he is always willing to go over questions and topics in his office hours. I would definitely recommend Dr. A. Everyone loves Dr. A.
Course can be be difficult, but Dr. A makes it easy!
What is there not to say about this man. He is the most caring and connected Professor I have ever encountered. He does reviews prior to each test that can go into 2 AM. If you can, TAKE HIM!! He truly cares about his students, and their well being in and outside of class. He also has a sense of humor, which is nice to see in such a "serious" class
He is amazing at exam review once you know the material, however, having him as a teacher is not the move. His tests were extremely difficult and the only thing saving your grade is homework. This class had me stressed and I felt that he was a mediocre professor. In CHE131 I adored him as an outside resource, but in CHE132 he fell flat.
Dr. Amarante is truly amazing. He is passionate about chemistry and it makes the class much easier to sit through. He's also very accommodating when any issues arise. 10/10. He's probably my favorite professor at Stony.
Dr. A is an amazing professor! He definitely cares about his students, 100%. Not going to lie the exams are not easy (that's college) but study hard and attend his review sessions, you will survive. Definitely learned a lot from him. One of the best professors I had. He truly goes out of his way to help everyone. He def. did not fall flat at all!!!
Dr. Amarante is an amazing person who cares a lot about his students. His reviews are honestly what helped me pass this class and of course the only annoything thing about this class was the Alek's homework assignments but Dr. Amarante will even stay up at late hours to help you get your Alek's done before the deadline. Such a great professor!
I really liked Dr.A personally as a professor. I also think the majority of the students are brainwashed by his niceties. The work given for this class is insane. The ALEKS is a website that will make you want to cry. He is not a good teacher either. Prepare for the worst when taking Gen chem. He is great but the class and his teaching are painful.
Dr. A is awesome! He really knows how to make chemistry easy to understand. One of the best professors I had. He knows the subject matter well & cares that his students pass the class. Be prepared to work in this class. A lot of math involved. He gave me good advice on how to study better and that's the reason why I was able to pass. Def. take him.
Dr. A in 131 was useful as an outside resource, however, this semester he was not it. He does not round up grades at the end and his exams were unbelievably difficult with one having a 47 % average. Notes are overly long. It's very hard to do well in this class unless you took AP chem prior. Unless the average is below 60 he won't curve, goodluck.
He explains the material so well. He does reviews for each exam. Definitely take him!!!
He is an extremely popular professor. Gives awesome lectures and breaks things down step by step. Gives a lot of examples in class. Thumbs up!!!
Just one word describes Dr. Amarante, awesome!!! Wish he taught orgo as well.
Dr. Amarante can teach well. One of the best professors. Knowledgeable and helpful. Hold great reviews for each exam!!!
Dr. A is a really good professor. He's easy to reach outside of his class and he cares about his students! ALEKS was awful but if you do the practice exams and look at Mastering after recitation, you're sure to pass the exams. He curves when the average is low. If you have the opportunity, take CHE 131 with him! You won't regret it.
I am a visiting student who took both 131 & 132 over the summer online. His lectures and notes were incredibly organized and helpful. I feel very prepared after taking chem and genuinely fell in love with the subject after taking it with Dr. A. He is very understanding and accessible. Work had and you'll do well! I highly recommend him.
This was a great class!!! Professor was very knowledgeable. Gave a lot of examples and really made me think about what happens in terms of environmental chemistry and how it relates to other chemistry courses especially orgo and pchem.
Had a great time in this class. Gives a lot of real world examples and had us read recent articles concerning climate change and environmental policies. He is very knowledgeable and definitely explains the topics well. Definitely take him!!!
One of the best professors at SBU hands down. Super caring and truly understands the struggles of an undergrad. Def. take him for chem!!!
Was always caring and genuinely wanted his students to learn and understand the material. Dan would go out of his way to hold review sessions that would last until 5 in the morning. Would definitely take any of his classes.
154 lab is the single worst class I have ever taken anywhere. Amarante made our lives a living hell by assigning outrageous due dates (3 days) for reports that can take 10+ hours. He and Chapman were very unhelpful and we usually had no idea what was expected of us for reports. This class accounted for half my stress this semester. Deserves 0 stars
Beware his class is a weed out class and you will not get a curve. Would not recommend taking this class at Stony. He is very vague in emails and only responds in the group chat he is not supposed to be in. He is inappropriate and will offer his personal social media account. If there is a mistake on the exams he will not take accountability.
Prof. Amarante is an AMAZING teacher. Stays up until 4am giving an exam review. His lectures are very straightforward and he explains the material well. He is very caring and listens to your problems. Goto his reviews and office hours, it helps A LOT. One of the best professors at Stony. He is active on GroupMe. Listens to what we have to say.
Dr. A (that is what most of us call him) is great. In his lectures you can see how passionate he is about chemistry and teaching. Goto his exam reviews. Super helpful!!! One of rare professors that enjoys anime and video games. When he sends out a class email he likes to put the Mario Bros characters.
I was a CHE 131 UGTA under Dr. A's supervision. He was an amazing leader. All the UGTAs would have biweekly meetings with him. He explained how course runs and how to help the students. Asking us for ideas how to make the class better for future students. He is an excellent professor and mentor. If you can TA for him, do it.
He's so cool and a great professor. Before each midterm he would host his own review session on zoom that would last for hours and then send the recording to the entire class to help us study.
Your grade in this class is reliant on the 4 tests. I basically taught myself everything for this course by watching youtube videos. I honestly don't see the hype around professor Amarante. Staying up 1 night every month or so with your students isn't going above and beyond. If anything he is compensating for the confusion during the lecture.
I can almost guarantee Dr. A is coming on RMP and giving a thumbs down to any bad rating he gets...
Dr. A is a great teacher!!! Tries to help everyone understand the material. Attend his reviews and goto his office hours. It helps alot.
Dr. A knows his stuff. However, be prepared to teach urself CHE131. He isn't the only prof teaching the course. If Dr. A was the only prof teaching CHE131, I prob would've done exponentially better in the class. He holds review sessions a couple days before every exam, explains concepts beautifully, and is responsive to emails (for the most part).
Nice guy, knew his stuff, and really wanted to help everyone. Very understanding when it comes to deadlines in terms of homework. He wants every student to succeed, holding review sessions until like 4 in the morning. Chemistry is hard, but if you put in the work you will succeed. Went from an F to getting a B lmao.
I really don't get the hype. Dr. Amarante overexplains constantly and goes on tangents about stuff we don't need. His "incredible review sessions" only last for 7 hours because he takes like 40 minutes dissecting each word of a question instead of actually telling us what we should know.
Professor was good overall, could definitely explain the material well during the lecture, and the review sessions are overall pretty helpful, especially for the final. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE CURVE THOUGH. no, actually the curve for this course is disgusting, the course itself though very well-structured and organized and all the material is explained
Dr. A is a great professor. Explains the material well and gives a review before each exam. His reviews are long, ngl, but he explains all the details. This way we can understand the topics forwards and backwards. Highly recommended!!!
Dr. Amarante is a great professor!!! Always available to answer questions. You can ask him questions for CHE 152 too. The only thing that should change or suggest is the lab report due dates... plz!!!
Daniel Amarante is a great chemistry professor. He makes sure everyone understands the material given in his lectures. He's also very easy to reach out to outside of classes if students ever have any questions. Very cool guy and overall amazing!
Very nice and accessible through the GroupMe for any possible questions. Also holds very helpful review sessions right before the exams covering the practice test questions (which are basically the exact same as the exams themselves).
Dr. Amarante truly cares about his students grades. Keeps active conversation with the class. Gives exam reviews before each exam.
His lectures are great!!! Makes the topics easy to understand and follow.
Dr. Amarante is, by far, one of the best professors at SBU. He gives amazing lectures and his exam reviews are fantastic. After watching the first exam review I really understood the material and my exam grade reflected it. Thank you Dr. Amarante!!!
Amazing. I usually don't write reviews but I HAD TO for him because he's that great. Super caring for his students and you can tell he always wants us to succeed. Best thing you can do for this class is read the textbook, go to his review and do a lot of practice problems!
Awesome prof.! Was struggling with the course. Made an appointment to see him and gave really great advice. You can tell he loves to teach and that he cares. Def. take him!!!
Amazing Professor!!! Gives reviews for each exam and continues to go the extra mile for the class.
I have gone to Dr. Amarante's reviews and office hours this whole semester. You can tell that he cares about each student and their education. Truly goes above and beyond what is required. If you want someone that is a good teacher and that cares then take his class.
He is such a nice person and teaches chemistry well. I came to his office hours toward the end of the semester. I was so scared about my grade and he took the time to figure out how I would be able to pass the class. He listens to you and gives you great advice to do well.
Dr. A is one of the best professors at SBU!!! From his teaching to his reviews you can see how much he loves teaching.
He is a really good professor! This class was challenging for me, but it really is just about the amount of effort you put into this class. Dr. Amarante seems really passionate about chemistry and educating. He clearly wants to see us succeed and puts a lot of effort into helping us prepare for each exam.
Def one of the best professors at SBU. You can tell he is passionate about teaching. Reviews for each exam until 2am. He really wants to help you pass the class. Wish he taught other chem courses.
Thank you, Dr. A!!! I am not a person who likes to rate anyone but I need to credit him and his class.
Gives awesome reviews before each exam. Really helps students try to pass the course.
He cares about his students and actually puts in a lot of effort to be accessible outside of class which rarely any professors do.
Dr. A is literally one of the best professors I've ever had. His exams are TOUGH, but then again, Chemistry is TOUGH, so it's expected. He held review sessions before every exam for as long as we needed and was so patient with everyone. He uses the Aleks homework software which was brutal, but it did help solidify class material. LOVE YOU DR A!!!
