His tests can be rough, but he's a good teacher. No curve but tons of partial credit, so it balances out in the end!
Very good teacher. THe best math teacher I've had so far. He is 7 ft tall (haha)!!. BUT he is cool. He makes the class so EASY. He writes everything he says on the board.
Hey if you're into a dull monotonous voice, then come on down. Learned math from the answer book and the tutoring center.
well this prof.'s lectures are funny. i enjoyed his class. he thought well and wrote every single word out of his mouth. prepares for the exam although dont take his exam study easy cuz they are very hard. as long as you do hw and study his notes u be gd.
OMG! he is the worst math teacher i've EVER had. he doesn't go over homework and he is soooo boring. he makes me HATE math more than i already do! he's horrible!
he doesnt go over the homework and when u ask a question in class, he starts talking about something else. his weekly quizzes arnt that hard, but he saves the hard questions for the tests. this class mite be easy if ur really good at math.
Professor Anderson is very nice and helpful. His notes are clear, it might not be very fun to sit through, but its calc. and it's not the easiest subject in the world, so dont expect to go to class and rely on that only for the exam, you have to do ur own studying just like any other college class
the WORST teacher ever! notes are very unclear and he can't teach to save his life. don't even think of asking a question because he'll confuse you even more! tests are ridiculously hard and he doesn't curve!
great prof..if you know little bit of calculus..as long as you do the homework and write down his notes u good to go. dont expect him that much..have a time to study ur own.
Speaks very clearly, the notes are really helpful. MUST TAKE NOTES IN HIS CLASS. Tests are rough as someone already stated. I got a C in this class but it was my own fault because I botched the Final. Even though I dont really care for math, I still learned in his class. Plus I was relived to have a class where someone spoke fluent english finally.
i took his class last semester and he was one of professors that i used to admire, he helped me a lot. do the homeworks and go to his office if there's any questions and u'll like him, he really is helpful.
Never finishes a sentence. Only the first 2 rows can clearly hear him. I got my name written on the board for having my phone go off in class not during a quiz Quizes aren't hard, but they aren't well balanced He'll let you know which sections are on the quizes, but will only have one section on it Seems organized, but cannot teach to save his life
Horrible teacher! Trails off every sentence with mumbling. Spends time on unimportant definitions and then flies through examples. Stands in front of his notes on the black board so u cant see them until 2 examples later when your lost. Instead of answering student's questions he'll tell you to "think about it differently." Smart, but cant teach!
This guy really does know the material, but when it comes to teach he should really either learn how do so or give it up. He speaks very low and he never really explains things well and he tends to rush thru topics. I had to get a tutor and math is my strongest subject. If you need a teacher for math 108 take someone else.
worst teacher ever. hes sexy though. do not take him at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a quiz everyday to help you review the topics, which does help. there are 5 tests (maybe 4) they arent too bad. the material is comprehendible but yet he isnt a very good teacher. he says the same thing like 5 times in a row, which dont need to be said but whatever. if you have to take him its not too bad...
Prof is a very nice guy, but he is really bad at explaining things. He doesn't allow any time to go over homework or tests so you dont get any feedback at all. Not recommended.
Mono Voice, not clear at all. Quizzes each class, tests are hard. Only focuses on the hardest sections of the book. Doesn't deliver in order to test that hard. If there aren't other teachers available, try next semester. Don't jeopardize ur GPA, Money, Time. Even if you pass, it's all your effort. Barely passed, all my effort. Math Center Everyday.
this teacher is so easy. i passed with an A. you dont even have to come to class or buy the book. tests and quizzes are open book. he is really hot as well. highly recommend!
I think he did a great job. Esp. comparing to other prof. in that department.
This class is aight. Even tho he is kinda mono tone and does example after example of the same problem and uses the words "arbitrarily large" alot. It ain't too bad. just read the text book after each class to comprehend what he is talking about.
He is a really nice prof. He tries hard to do his best. Gives a lot of examples and explains them very well. If you attend all the lectures you are good to go on all quizes. I used my text book only twice and still got a high B. Lecture - overall good.
Dr. Anderson speaks very quietly, so it's best to sit close to the front. Other than that, no complaints. He gives great notes and easy quizzes and tests. He's also really helpful and quick to answer any questions. I emailed him one time after missing a lecture and he got back to me in fewer than 10 minutes.
He is a nice guy, but his teaching is kind of boring. He is better than some other math teachers though. He gives credit for work shown so it is harder to fail. If you like math you will like the class.
Extremely boring, could not stay awake in his class. says arbitrarily large too much. he makes things harder than they really are. hard to pay attention with his mono tone voice
He was one of the best teachers I've had! He's above the whole "attendance is mandatory" BS and just wants you to enjoy and understand the books. If you miss the reading, that's all you talk about during class so it's easy to catch up. TAKE HIM!
And. is very fair. His lecture can be dry but he tries to joke a bit. Tests are very fair and he grades leniently. I recommend him, but know that you'll have to work a bit. A is possible.
One of the BEST english professors in the department, he makes class interesting with a lot of discussions. Some of the books I had no interest in, but he explained everything that you need to know during class so papers were easy to write.
The subject matter is hard, but he teaches well. If you have to take calculus I recommend him, but he doesnt curve like other teachers! He does teach though, unlike other calculus teachers!
You will have a 3-4 questions quiz once a week, fairly easy if you do the hw. His tests are hard, but he grades very leniently. Hes a good teacher, and helpful if you see him after class.
His lecture is boring but all the notes are very helpful. Do all the homework and practice a bit, it'll earn you an A. His test is hard but he is very easy going on them. He gave full 10 points to everyone on a problem majority of the people didn't know how to do on the test.
If you need to take Calculus, take it with Prof. Anderson. The course is hard, and he does not curve, but he grades leniently and explains very well.
he's a nice guy and will help you out if you need it but it is a hard class, the material isnt very easy and the teacher wasnt too exciting, alot of people tended to fall asleep, you can teach yourself tho and just attend class when he says there is a quiz. i ended up with a C and i loved math
Wonderful online course. Take him in the summer. Great professor. Online all teh time. I learned a lot. He is demanding but understanding.
its a hard class but he is so helpful i had no problem understanding the material! he is really nice and will work with you! he gives a ton of examples, explains it so well, and the maple assignments are easy! TAKE HIM!!
He is by far my favorite professor. His teaching are stimulating, gentle, and effective. He is extremely respectful and considerate to students. All in all, he GREAT!
Extremely nice guy, always willing to help me out during office hours. not a class u can slack off in and expect a good grade, but he gives very good clear notes, step-to-step. he is very generous when grading, always gives u points for whatever u put down. high quality professor, i recommend him
I failed another professor, but currently passing with an A. His notes are so easy to follow, and the quizzes are usually from examples in his notes. He's always willing to help and answer any questions you might have. I've asked questions after class, in his office, and he always tries his best to explain. He's a really chill professor.
Best math teacher at mason. Had him for 113 and 114. His teaching is very good, take good notes because the quizzes are similar to his notes. His tests can be challenging but he is a very lenient grader. Definately take him if he's available.
Excellent teacher. Very clear and thorough explanations. Problems in quizes are similar to those covered in class. Exams are tougher but nothing is unfamiliar, plus he's an easy grader. Just do the homework problems, take good notes, and you're good.
Great Professor. One of the best at Mason. Highly recommended.
Incredibly good calc teacher! The lectures are pretty boring (hey, it's math), but if you take notes, you'll see how well he knows his stuff. You can use a calculator on tests, but not quizzes. Exams weren't especially easy, but they weren't that hard either. Plus, he gives a ton of partial credit. Just do the assigned homework and you'll get an A.
I cannot recommend Dr. Anderson enough. What a fun class, what a fun teacher, HW is sparing, the lessons are to-the-point and extremely helpful. Class attendence isn't mandatory, but I would recommend it just to spend time with the guy. He is very helpful and returns e-mails promptly. If you have the chance, take his class!!
One of the best Professors at Mason. He is incredibly nice, notes are very helpful, always willing to help students. I stopped by his office hours so many times throughout the semester and even though he was eating he took time to show me how to do things. He is incredible and overall a great professor. Take him or you will miss out.
....made the class amazing! Extremely helpful, and knows a little bit about everything!
Anderson is just such a NICE guy. You learn so much during his classes, sometimes about random unrelated things. He likes to chitchat. There's a lot of reading and a lot of writing, but it was my favorite class! Take him!
If you like a solid professor, take Dr. Andreson. Unfortunately for me, being a boy made it hard to focus on his good looks in class. Other than that, the class was amazing ;)
Take him. Enough said. If you're a guy -- he's really relaxed and down to earth. If you're a girl, I'm sure he's the type to be easy on the eyes for most of you.
He cares about his students and tries to help them a lot. However, his notes on the board are quite disorganized. He lectures slowly and in mono tone which is very boring and hard to follow. Many people nearly get bored to death. Tests are hard. Class first test's average was about 50% or so. And he does NOT curve. Calculators are NOT allowed.
Hardest class i've ever taken. i've never gotten lower than a B at mason and will probably get a D in this class. No cheat sheet, tests are much harder than quizes, and he curves a whopping 2-3%. good luck if you do take
He cares a lot about his students, but his lectures are boring and not very clear. If you go to him for help outside of class, you will do well.
It's a hard class, but def passable.Weekly quizzes are easy (no calc allowed), exams are intense. Attendance is only necessary during quizzes, just read txtbook and attempt the hw problems.Seek office hour help for assistance.Good luck!
The class was boring, I couldn't pay attention to the teacher because the way he talks is mono-tone, and he says "hummmm" before every sentence. The quizzes were easy, but the exam was super hard. He didn't curve much either. The comments from 2009 didn't help at all, since I been at Mason I only 1 -A, now I will get a D.The book is your best help
class ain't that bad.if you remember your algebra you're good.exams are rough, spend time mastering derivative properties.depending on how much work u put in it will reflect on ur overall grade. ohh yeaa, take a 5 hour energy before class or else u will fall asleep..
One of the best professors I have ever had. Absolutely hilarious, great class discussions, and thoughtful assignments. Made me look forward to class. Very knowledgeable and intelligent in many aspects of academia and life.
One of the best GTAs I've ever had! He defn made up for our horrible professor! He is extremely helpful and nice! Never be afraid to ask for help!
Best TA ever. He was definitely much more helpful than our professor. Anderson is hilarious and personable. He's also very dedicated to helping students succeed, and willing to go off on a intriguing yet irrelevant tangent when presenting to the class. I'm taking his 130 class next semester, and am really looking forward to it.
He's a really interesting prof with a lot of knowledge to impart. He's really helpful and understanding. He appreciates hard work and effort/growth. Really approachable and easy to talk to. He's open to new/different ideas and leads great discussions. One of my fav profs at Mason.
Anderson is an awesome person. some people who had him for 131 complained, but I thought the class was interesting and easy. It's a good idea to actually do the readings. You just show up to class and chat about the assigned reading. There's 1 research paper on whatever you want and 3 take home essay exams on the readings. I would take this class.
A really awesome and nice guy! He leads really interesting discussion, and knows how to keep his students engaged. Even when I fell behind in the reading, I still went to class because he's so interesting to listen to. His tests were take-home essays, and he's not too difficult of a grader.
I had him for Cal I, and his class was so much fun! I loved it; however, his exams were very tricky and difficult but he was always ready to help if you asked him a question. He is very sweet and very easy going! Take him if you can, I highly recommend him.
I was certainly not a fan of his class.
Half the time I walk out mid class to go take my own notes. I cannot follow his lecture at all due to the amount he says "um" and "okay" to himself. Most of my classmates that do attend just watch movies on their laptops. Graded HW is very difficult and does not relate well with what is done in class and on other assignments. I would not recommend.
Although the classes were pretty boring, if you ever need help outside of class, he's really nice and helpful. The only complaint I would have is the homework. I think it's too difficult for what is being taught in class.
Dr. Anderson's class was one of my favorites as a freshman. He doesn't really care what you do if youre paying attention. If you took AB Calc in high school then his class is a real eye-opener as to how math is taught in college. Buy the book, review for his tests and everything should be good.
Anderson is great! He is always willing to help you out with whatever you need, and it's very clear what he's looking for. A great guy and one of my favorite professors at Mason.
He was such an awful choice for Calc. I. Having difficulty with math already, his lectures were a considerable percentages of just "um" and "okay" being repeated. 50%+ of the class would skip because lecture was useless. The tests are hard and he and his TA did not seem very approachable. Might be OK with prior calc. experience.
This is a very boring class, and his lectures are useless. The only reason I would take his class again is because his tests are easy, and he is a lenient grader. Most of the test questions come straight from the book and his notes, LOL! Just do the homework problems, and you'll get an A on his exams.
Dr. Anderson was very nice and super approachable. There were complaints about how many times he says um and ok, well he does say those words quite often, but you CAN get pass them. Don't worry about the derivation of rules, just know how to apply them. READ the book, the test questionssame concept. Pretty easy math class overall.
Easy class, just go to the lecture and take notes. Super easy exams.
Awesome professor. Getting on A in this class is easy if you go to lecture, take notes, and do the homework. Super helpful at office hours and he's a really lenient grader. One of the best math teachers/profs I've had.
Professor Anderson is inspiration and encouraging. He had outstanding speakers visit the class. The class was not at all difficult, but I learned a lot of very helpful information. I highly recommend this teacher and this class.
He is a great math professor because he teaches in an organized manner. Practice the hw problems before the recitation quizzes and study the quizzes before the exams bc they show up a lot. Watch youtube videos if you need further clarification, DO THE HW!! and go to him or math tutoring lab for help. His tests are not that difficult, you can do it!
Dr. Anderson is great. I wouldn't say this class was an easy A. He makes you work for it. You have to do the non-graded textbook hw in order to be successful. His exams are very straight-forward. Math isn't for everyone but Dr. Anderson makes it very do-able. Thoroughly do the homework and you'll do well. Don't expect to be handed an A.
If you've taken Calculus before then this professor is pretty much for you. He isn't that great at teaching. His lectures are super slow and long. I reviewed/taught myself most of the topics at home & I didn't go to class often but still did well in the class. The Mathematica assignments aren't too bad. Overall, the class was alright.
Take this professor if you are average at math. Lectures are boring but tests are really easy. He gives lots of partial credit, unlike other math professors. He does mathematica assignments and sometimes went to the math center to get help on those. Got B's on exams and quizzes and A's on mathematica assignments. look @ unassigned hw each week.
Homework is not mandatory grade-wise (save for three assignments) but it is necessary that you do homework to understand material. He's a nice professor; I just felt like he focused too much on theoretical concepts more than the actual working of formulas. Was an incredibly stressful class--would not take again.
Not bad, but not the best. I hated the Mathematica assignments, they took forever to do but were easy A's. Lectures were boring and not that helpful. I learned more from the textbook. Tests were okay; didn't study as much as I should have but still did well. Mathlab was not required, but it did help me succeed.
I took Calc 1 with Prof. Anderson which is naturally a tough class. The lectures are very boring and it was almost impossible to sit through the lecture. He is very nice and empathetic though. He responds to students' requests and is very understanding. There are quizzes every quiz except the day before the exam but the quizzes are relatively easy
He explains the theory of formulas and will only do 2 examples over the course of 2 hours . So if can't go home and teach yourself everything about this class. This class is not for you, it will be a fail with no prior calc experience.
He has a monotonous voice that can put you to sleep if you're tired. When teaching in class, he literally spends 2 hours to go over just 3 example problems and copies off of previous notes he wrote to teach. All he does is write down his examples for you to follow along while watching on the screen projector. Not an efficient teacher at all.
He is a kind man and is there to help. Do the hw assignments outside of class and you will do well. Exams arent difficult but due to anxiety and the fact that I missed the first exam I fear I may need to retake the class. Put in the work and you should be fine. His lectures are long and boring but slightly helpful.
I had never taken calculus before taking Anderson's class and it was a bit difficult but you should be fine if you put in the work. He writes down proofs then does a few example problems and explains them in detail. He's a very lenient grader, so if you deserve a D you might get a C in his class. He's a solid choice for calculus 1
Lectures were straightforward and very one sided, but it's calc, so what else do you expect. My favorite part is he gives you everything for the whole course. EX. He scans his hand written notes daily, and posts the quiz answers for each of the three recitations. His grading scheme is very clear and very helpful. He leaves your success up to you.
Lectures are boring and felt kinda useless. Pretty much learned everything from the textbook. He's a nice guy though. Tests come directly from the homework questions. Only the final was slightly more difficult. Really lenient grader too. Skipped most of the classes and ended up with an A.
He was a good professor but I didnt mesh w/ the way he taught. i am also very bad at teaching myself. He was hard to pay attention to because his voice is very soft and monotonous. The lectures are examples and definitions. I also found recitations to be tedious.
The class wasn't too difficult, and his lectures are alright but boring. The exam questions are similar to the quizzes and optional homework, and he is very generous with giving partial credit. His class can be a breeze if you're comfortable with math, and it isn't much worse if you aren't good at math like myself.
Daniel Anderson is a good Math professor. He outlines his class nicely and does well preparing you for the coming exam. The grades are mainly exams but there are a few quizzes. Lectures can be dry at times but is worth it to take this professor. Study and do the homework (it's not graded). I would recommend him to anyone taking Calculus 1.
One of the most genuinely caring professors I've ever had. Really made our quarantine class manageable, as well as enabling us to learn what we needed to.
Anderson is extremely nice if you get a question wrong on the exams as 60% of ur grade is the midterm avg, he is very nice with partial cred. He goes slow but he is also very thorough with the content and is just a great prof. He cares about you. I would say if you have the chance, take him. Class avg for midterms was 88%. Take him over walnut!
Danderson --> Daddy Anderson. What can I say about this beast. absolute legend. nuff said
Professor Anderson is the GOAT and his test are mostly based on homework and recitation questions. He give good feedback and lots partial credit for all of his test. He is caring and respected professor among many students and honestly I'm shocked on how every test had a high class average to the point that it became higher than my own IQ.
Prof Anderson is a legend - super helpful, cares about students, and runs a fair course. ChatGPT and unstuckstudy were great for exam prep. Highly recommend taking this class.
Professor Anderson was a lovely professor to have, he cares about his students and individually handwrites comments on all of the work he receives through homework and exams. The book is important, it has good examples for the exams and homeworks. The lectures are fantastic, with many examples. This class was enjoyable.
