okay teacher, enthusastic, kind of quirky, good insights, deep doctrine, sometimes too 'deep' and seemingly off the wall or exagerated, but overall good, Research Paper on topic of choice, which i enjoyed, -go to lectures or you'll fail the test!

AMAZING! This guy knows about NT history and culture. He is funny, spiritual, and easy. He talks, we listen, don't skip class. He doesn't leave room for class discussion, but he has much better things to say than what a classmate would. There isn't a whole lot of work. Just a paper, but the man is strict on grammer and format. I recommend!

I'd advise you take another professor. The grading is quite difficult; an A isn't impossible but it's improbable. The midterm and final are based solely on his lectures and his pet theories, so TAKE VERY DETAILED NOTES. Read the scriptures before the final exam, because that is part of your grade (he doesn't tell you that beforehand)

Brother Belnap had some really cool insight. Tests are take home open book, so be sure to take good notes. There is one research paper that takes a while to do and there are quizzes that require you to do extra reading outside of the Book of Mormon. The final is another take home test (bring your syllabus to class the last day). Good class though.

Don't take this professor if you have academic accommodations, he was very rude when I asked to use mine due to my disabilities. His lectures also feel very scattered and often don't connect at all to the course material.

Hands down favorite religion professor at BYU. His lectures are incredible--never boring, always enlightening, entertaining. Some assignments, the midterm and final are a little hard-hitting and heavy intellectually, but it is so worth it. (essay response, open book/take home midterm & final; --take notes during lecture and you're totally set!)

Pearl of Great Price from Professor Belnap was the worst religion class I have taken at BYU by far. He doen't use slides or study guides for the tests so you just have to write down everything he says. The class seemed more about literary analysis of the Pearl of Great Price text and Brother Belnap's opnions on things than actual doctrine

Loved the class. The ones that rate my man low just don't like to think, and are the most likely to say that the gospel is very simple when it's not. Ya, class is hard, it's the Pearl of Great Price, intelligence (wink) comes at a price. He tells you that his class will be very academic before the add-drop deadline so you can switch if you want.

Brother Belnap is passionate about what he teaches. He likes to think that he teaches in unorthodox ways (although I didn't think so), and he likes to tell jokes, so the class is usually pretty fun. The midterm and final seem like way too much work for the type of class that he teaches, and he didn't even bother to grade them, so that was a shame.

Professor Belnap is an amazing professor with a very scholarly approach to the scriptures. He knows his stuff and loooooves to share it with you! He is hysterical and literally WILL NOT put you to sleep. He is very kind with grading and will allow you to submit corrections over and over. If you don't get an A, it's kind of your own fault.

Professor Belnap takes a very scholarly and literary approach to the Book of Mormon, but in doing so, he teaches the teachings within the Book of Mormon as "the gospel according to Dan Belnap", and that is not very helpful. He's a great professor, and very passionate about what he teaches, but it's not the best approach to teaching about scripture.
