Dr. Benjamin's class is a fun one to go to even though he does not mandate attendance. I strongly recommend going, your Grade will reflect your attendance. His lectures are entertaining, and he loves to have his student come talk to him outside of class.
classes are usually fairly fun
Dr. Benjamin is extremely knowledgeable - he works with Nobel prize winners, etc. His lectures are big and attendance is not required -I'd recommend going because it's a fun lecture. Fun professor, fun class.

funny guy
he is very interesting and really funny. i've had him for two different classes and i enjoy them a lot. it's hard to get an A but B's are easily gotten.
He is an amazing teacher. He gives great notes and explanations. I dont think I've ever met a smarter man in my life. If only every teacher was as good as he is.... we would all love school
His tests are very difficult and the t.a.'s barely speak english
I accently took the honors section of this class, but I got a lot out of it even though I wasn't an honors student. You must study to do well. Tests on the application of what he taught and very little on rote memorization. You must go to class, but its enjoyable.
Benjamin comes off as cocky but who cares? he's rich. What do you expect? Anyways, he teaches decently, but you really dont have to go to class to do well. All I did was go to quiz section and study the notes I obtained there, and I was able to pull out an A in both 211 and 212.
Wonderful teacher, I highly recommend him!
hard class
VERY Hard teacher, but he both curves the grades and adjusts his grading scale to compensate so everyone makes decent. Very fun prof and makes a boring class extremely interesting. Very intelligent and he realizes this. I would recoomend this in a second, but be warned it's not easy.
very smart man, knows what he is talking about, curves grades and scale is different, tests are not extremely hard but sometimes are tricky
He is a very smart man and he knows his Econ. but the class is very hard and if you arent very good in econ you have to study your butt off for his tests. overall i have learned a lot but i dont know how good of a grade i will receive
Awesome teacher! He makes the class very enjoyable. Tests however are difficult and make you think, but you actually understand the material.
Very smart but really hard. You have to understand the material. If you don't study much you will get at least a C because of the grade scale. Make sure you get a good TA because that is what really makes the difference. Try to get one that speaks English too because you'll learn more in that class then going to the lectures.
this class is extremely hard! dr. B really knows econ. and you learn a lot, but the tests are really hard and you have to study a lot to get a good grade. overall i am glad i took the class b/c i learned a lot,but honestly i will never take one of his classes again
amazing prof. He's very smart and you will learn a lot. I'm takin him again...it feels like suicide but I'm going to be gald I took him again!!
lectures are great, but quiz sections can be very terrifying if your in his honors section and aren't 100% clear on the material...he curves to make the class average a B, so usually you won't end up scoring as low as you thought...the honors section is not for the weak!
His big lecture is great- he's interesting and relates econ to every day stuff. But his quiz section (for honors students) is really hard, he isn't clear on what he wants for his essays, he picks on people and doesn't really call on girls. But take him if it's not honors- he curves the tests so it's fair and easy to do well.
Lots of work!
He's an entertaining lecturer and he talks about events going on at the time of the class, but he's hard! If you get him for your quiz section, don't expect any extra help on what he lectures about in class. His tests are meant to trick you, but he does curve a little. That's the one consolation for taking the class.
Awesome professor. One of the best that I have had here at clemson. Hard test, but if you know your stuff you will do fine. I got an A in 211 and 212.
Great teacher...he knows tons about what he's teaching. However, class size was HUGE, and for someone who doesn't know anything about Economics, it was very difficult to grasp what he was saying. He moves on very fast and usually teaches off of an overhead projector. Either you get it or you don't.
I personally enjoyed his lectures. Can see how others think he was hard. If this is your first econ class, he will be hard as he doesn't give basic background info. Took Econ 200 beforehand which made 211 a review basically. HUGE curves. My buddy made a B and had 50-60's on tests. Just do your lab work. It's 25% of class.
He definitely knows what he's talking about!! Lectures are interesting too. His tests are more straight-forward than the ones my ECON 211 TA/Graduate student gave, which made them easier. Quiz section/lab helps to understand the information. I hate econ, but I really enjoyed him as a professor- take his course.
this dude is a **** juice. he wears a different suit and tie to class everyday. he was an economic advisor to the Reagan administration so you better believe he knows his stuff. his class is tough but the most interesting one i have had a clemson yet. he is one of the most highly paid professors here because he has a prestigous reputation.
Very good teacher. Don't miss class though; if you take good notes and study a bit, it's not hard at all to keep your A. His voice kind of irritated me at first... but I got used to it ;) He can be funny at times and is VERY easy to take notes from, considering he writes everything on a projector.
Dr. Benjamin is a great lecturer, his class is fairly interesting, and he really does make an effort to help. For 211, I had a great TA and did very well in the class. I had a bad TA in 212 and ended up with a C. If your TA is bad, switch. That is the best advice for Benjamin's class.
Dr. Benjamin is very cocky in his ways. His class is so difficult that he has to alter the traditional grading scale just so that students stand a chance. Don't ever try to e-mail him...his responses are always short and rude.
Awesome professor! His e-mails were too short? You must have been asking some really dumb questions. He was always very courteous in my communication with him. Study, work hard and you will do fine in this class. Anyone who says otherwise is either lazy or bitter.
DKB is a good teacher. Some of the TA's aren't so good but if you take good notes in lecture you'll do fine. Study as many old tests as possible. Take him for 212, I would recommend someone else for 211.
I really love DKB. He obviously knows his subject. He is also entertaining because he has so many wacky quotes he spouts off during lecture. His class is def. challenging and you HAVE to study and attend class. I got a B first semester and an A and a coveted exemption (which he gives to the top 15 in the class each semester). Work hard!
I seriously think DKB wrote all of the good reviews on this website. I had him for 211 and 212; entertaining prof but not that good. Also tests are harder than necessary. If you take him for 211; stick with it and take him for 212 too.
2nd best prof @ Clemson. Take this man now! He was the Chief Economical Advisor to Pres. Regan. He is the man.
Great teacher. Enjoyed going to class to listen to his lecture.
He is horrible. His test are hard. I have never recieved below a B in college until his class. He takes it way to serious. I suggest that you do not take this man. He thinks he is so smart and knows everything. He can pull some funny jokes out here and there, but he is not cool. I do not know how wrote all these reviews, but it must of been his TAs
Benjamin is a good professor. He knows what he is talking about and makes the class very interesting. His tests are very hard but he does curve them. Your TA should help you know what to expect on the test. You must read the chapters he assigns in the small book because he asks atleast five questions on each test. Do not expect to get an A.
He was defininty a good professor. He knows his stuff, but his tests are ridiculously hard. Make sure you get a good TA.
this class is fun to listen to but you should definately find someone who already had the class and study their old tests.
Really good teacher
Benjamin is a really smart guy, but he is a really hard professor. His class is super confusing, and he likes to put impossible questions on the tests. Most of the stuff he talked about in class was not relevant at ALL to the tests. He knows a lot about econ, but I would recomend taking someone else, especially if you dont care about econ.
Benjamin is an extremely smart man. He loves teaching and shows it. His lectures are entertaining and interesting, you don't HAVE to go, but it's worth it. Your TA really makes a difference, their section is worth 20%, mine sucked and so that lowered my grade. Getting old tests is a MUST bc he uses very similar if not the same questions. Take him!!
Great professor. probley the best at clemson. extremely smart and very clear in descriptions. lectures are not mandatory but they help a lot and he takes a lot of test questions from lecture. getting old tests is a must. lab section helps too.
funny
Super hard professor. Extremely confusing graphs and notes. Tests are nearly impossible, however he curves them pretty well. I would reccomend taking someone else if you are not intrested in economincs.
Awesome class. Hard exams but he covers everything thoroughly in lectures.
This man is incredible. Yes, his tests can be hard, but you will not find a smarter person on this campus. He can make Econ half way fun. I learned a lot in that class and I am a Marketing major. Its not an easy class but its worth it. the man is awesome.
Wouldn't recommend taking it as honors because his honors sections are structured to "push" what we learned in class further (totally intimidating small class discussions with him). Other TA's go back over what he said in class and put it in lamens terms.
obsessed about his ties and very pompus, writes very sloppy so hard to read notes. Exam material is not really covered in class
This is the best professor I've had in my whole life! He's very clear about what he expects, and he explains the material in a way that is relevant and easy to understand. If you can take the honors section, definitely do so because you'll be much better prepared for the exams and will exempt the final.
Great teacher. Knows what he is talking about. Very Interesting topics. Overall he is a very respectful teacher / economist. I highly recommend taking one of his classes.
You have no chance at an A without working your ass off but he offers more than enough material (practice tests, worksheets, ...) to succeed. I'ts impressive how he commands a class of 350.
Knows his stuff, but exams are killer. If you want to truly understand anything in this course, you must read his book. If you're easily embarrassed, don't take him for Honors. He is VERY intimidating. If you're not easily embarrassed, take Honors, because he goes more in-depth, and most of the other TAs are clueless. Overall, he's a nice guy.
To maximize your net benefits, skip lecture and work really hard in the quiz section. I learned everything from my TA.
He's a great professor and makes good examples. Class is extremely difficult. Make sure you study last years tests! Test questions are confusing. Make sure to get a good TA.
This is a difficult class. Prof. Benjamin knows how to challenge his students, and he teaches the material very well. Make sure you get a good TA because they help a lot to clarify what you learn in lecture. Attendance is not mandatory, but attending class is a good idea. Make sure you read the little book and go over previous year's tests.
he knows what he's talking about, keep up with everything in the class and you'll be fine
Good teacher! Explains the material well, but it helps to get a good TA. Exams are tough like other people sya, but if you do well on quizzes, tests have exact same questions, just with examples switched around. 15 pt scale so "B" is easy.
Class is huge, but he is a great professor. A good TA helps, and its not too much work.
DKB knows that he's good, and he is good. Things to do for his class: 1. Sit on the back row and thumbs down his new Italian silk tie. 2. Walk into class about 5 minutes late one day (it's great!) 3. Hold the door open everyday for class. (you'll get 20 bucks) 4. Be his friend bc he knows people. 5. Take his class or regret it for life.
The guy is a stud. He knows his stuff and if you go to class and are intelligent you should get an A. 85 and up is an A in his class. He even has exemptions!
Great professor!
he is really funny he is also brilant he does a great job with making his class alot of fun but the class it self is imposible
A very brilliant man with a hilarious, dry sense of humor. If you're in the honors section you get him as your "TA" which can be difficult but I recommend it. Class is not especially hard but is by no means easy. Pay attention in lecture and read the book; lectures are hilarious anyway. As an added bonus, he's a capitalist. Take him. Now.
benjamin knows his stuff and he knows that he knows it. its not just learning the material, its being able to do something with what you have learned. the class is soooo entertaining and i recommend sitting on the back row and giving him a thumbs down. its funny. but really you will leave the class knowing more than u ever did. TAKE IT!!!!
If you ever have to take an introductory course in economics take his class! His tests are tough, but not impossible. Pay attention in class and most important go to class! He makes economics class tolerable. A lot of personality! I will take any of his classes I can find
Best professor I have ever had. Almost majored in Economics because of him.
Although the tests were absolutely killer, Benjamin was awesome! He is so funny, and I love how he gives everything to you straight up. The little MBN book is important, but the big textbook will only confuse you. Come to class and attend review sessions! And look at old tests!
His tests are hard and his lectures are a bit hard to understand. The quiz sections really help. If it weren't for my TA's lectures, I would not have done well. I ended up with a B in the class but only because he uses a 15 point grading scale.
Absolutely Brilliant! He knows more about economics than anyone in DC! Although his tests are difficult, you'll learn more with him making a C than with any other professor making an A. Take him! He's the best!
Really great teacher
Great teacher but his tests are definitely challenging. Didn't miss a lecture and studied the night before tests and did the reading and came out with an A and exemption on the final.
The man knows Economics. But, he does not know teaching in my opinion. Could be because class had 350 people in it, although he does command the attention of those present. Test material is rarely covered in lecture, and it is imperative that you get a good TA if you want an A.
I stopped going to the lectures after the first test. They're pointless, he makes**** up, and he sees the world purely as economics. People don't matter, only money and trade. Drives me nuts. He says his tests are "OMG THE HARDEST TESTS EVAR!!!" but all you have to do is pick the answer that makes free trade look awesome, even if it's not true
He knows his stuff, but sort of rambles on and it is very difficult to understand the lectures. But, you definitely should go to get the notes! The quiz sections are also very helpful so go!
Don't try to memorize, try to learn the material. He will ask questions from a lot of different angles, so know your stuff! Take a lot of notes, read the small book, and you will be fine. After taking him, I seriously considered changing my major to economics. If you want to actually get something out of this class take him.
Worst. Class. Ever.
He obviously knows what he's talking about. Class isn't mandatory, and you can sleep through it. Quiz section is a big help, and you only need an 85 for an A. Pretty easy class and solid teacher.
Benjamin is a very conservative economics professor and he's not ashamed of it. His class is well structured and his lectures attendance isn't mandatory. you have a quiz section which is basically a lab. it is helpful and mandatory. The grading scale is lenient. Nod when he says outlandish things and don't do anything to make him or TA's mad.
Class lectures seem really easy and comprehendible but then when it comes to the test you are completely lost no matter what amount of studying. TA made things understandable but tests are too complicated to even apply it.
Benjamin is sometimes complicated and difficult but you WILL learn from this class if you're willing to put forth some effort.
He's so hard! Nothing what he lectures from is on the test. The test are practically impossible. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Dr. Benjamin is awesome!!! You will find his lectures extremely interesting and fun but I warn you that if you are stuck with a bad TA you will not be too happy. Just remember to read his book as it covers 20% of the class. Also try not to be a derelict except once and only to rate his tie for the day.
i thoroughly enjoyed dr. benjamin's method of teaching. after the first exam, you get a better understanding of how he sets up his tests. make sure you get a good ta because if you end up with a bad one, they can really mess up your final grade in the class. go to lecture - it really does help.
Dr. Benjamin knows what he's talking about even though I dont know what he's talking about most of the lectures. he's hard but I know plenty of people who did fine in his class and are getting B's and A's. He's good to have as a freshman because he prepares you for future test (his test are hard..dont try to memorize just understand the concecpts.
benjamin is a good professor, he is very knowledgeable and wants you to be as well. He gives notes on the overhead every class. The only issue is he has TA's teaching once a week in class sizes of 20 and the TA's are very hit and miss. Mine did not speak english, made the class very hard.Best prof to take for econ major
This professor is pretty partisan. If you agree with his approach to the course then you will enjoy it.
Dr. Benjamin is an incredible professor. He truly has a gift with his ability to make Econ fun. He's goofy and intelligent. I highly recommend this class. His class alone had me go to my advisor and change my major to Economics. He tries to scare you with "having the hardest exams on campus." Not at all. But make sure you get an english speaking TA
Will be one of your harder classes but by far you will learn the most form it!
Benjamin is the man. He makes his lectures interesting and you come away with a new perspective on life and how things work. Definitely take his class, but be prepared to put some work in to get a good grade.
I took Benjamin twice. First semester, I got a C because i missed a bunch of classes and didnt study for anything. This semester I got a B because I cared a lot more. If you put some effort in I guarantee you will get an A or a B. DK Benjamin is awesome too almost everyone loves him
Pretty funny guy. Class is by no means easy, but if you study a B is very achievable. Be sure to get a good T.A. for quiz section, makes a lot of difference.
It is very difficult to do well on tests in an online course. The professor is nice, however, and will help during office hours if you make the time. Studying is difficult. I was recommended to read the textbook and understand and use the information.
