Professor Bethel is very helpful; I actually like going to his class

Professor Daniel "Scruffy" Bethel has a very organized and sraight forward class. Very approachable if you have a problem or personal issue that will prevent you from class for a day or two. Is always available during office hours and will meet your schedule if need be. Wish we used the book more though since we had to pay for it.

He is very helpful professor and has a sense of humor which makes the class easy to sit threw. He is so nice and understanding and is always available upon request! Great teacher! Highly recommended!!

Professor Bethel is a great English 1A teacher. He is always there if you need help and he doesn't mind revising your same paper 10 times as long as you make improvements along the way. He is also very funny which keeps the class entertaining and fun. Take him if you can!!

Bethel is an awesome teacher! too bad he doesnt teach eng20. Very helpful he will make time to visit for office hours. Funny guy always joking around. 3 essays there pretty easy min 4 pgs. Never have to use the textbook. have to go to class because it will effect your grade if you dont show. DONT avoid this techer take HIM!

VEry funny. Offers to revise papers but hopes you dont take him up on his offer. Class seems pretty Easy and straightforward, but at the end of semester he gives you a lower grade than you deserve!! I wouldnt take him again.

Dan is so cool! Really great teacher who's willing to help his students with any problems they may have. He's super funny too! His class was really easy and he's very committed to his students learning and being successful. Very fair grader. The final is a portfolio and there are no quizzes/tests in 1A. 3 units each with 1 essay. Take this teacher!

Great professor! The units are well defined and there are multiple workshops for each essay. You work on developing essays, not just turning them in. The goal is to become a better writer and his course makes sure to do the most for you. Every day is worth showing up for.

Best professor thus far. Super helpful and willing to help students. Graded fairly and always left excellent suggestions on papers

This professor was awesome. It's a portfolio style class, so there's 3 main essays (he only wants two in the final portfolio) and a bunch of supplemental works like reading responses and journals. We did have 5 rhetorical detection papers, but they were a cake walk. Would definitely recommend, considering how helpful the professor is!

He's a very laid back teacher. If you turn in your assignments late, he doesn't mind at all. Super lenient! I'm taking him for English 10 so it's a year long class and in this semester, we have no taken any tests. We're doing 2 papers and the class basically does it for you. He looks and sounds like Seth Rogen. He even tries to be funny like him.

Dan is one of the best teachers Sac State has to offer! He's funny and laid back. He is also very lenient and understands when you have problems or when you need help. 3 main essays and in the end you have to submit a portfolio. Pretty hard on the portfolio but if you try you will be golden!

I highly recommend this professor. This class is an easy A. Throughout the semester you are required to write 3 essays. Read online articles, and reading responses (which aren't hard at all), and for the final you need to revise 2 out of the 3 essays you written, and write an essay on how you satisfied all 6 of his English 5 course goals.

What to say about Dan? Well first off he looks and sort of sounds like Seth Rogen, or as he says, Seth sounds like him. He is hilarious! He is willing to help if you are willing to take the time to actually work on your revisions. There were only three papers to do and one cover letter. Easier than I anticipated a college-level English class to be.

It was such a pleasure being in his class. He has dry humor, but the class was overall easy. He goes off the syllabus, so as long as you do the work, you will get an A. Three essays, class journals, peer editing in class, and one final portfolio.

Professor Bethel is a great he is extremely funny and even says he looks like Seth Rogan. He really wants to help his student and has a strong stance against the 5 paragraph essay. The class became close and talkative so concentration was a bit problematic at times.

Hilarious! Gives great feedback, fair grader, and makes class interesting. Wish I was able to have him for English 20! Kind and approachable. So far my best professor in college and an all time favorite. Also a very caring guy overall.

Bethel is super funny and understanding, he will be one of my favorite professors. There's three essays you have to do but he walks you through them. He is there to answer any questions you have.

He was a great professor. Cares about students and how they can improve on their writing. He also provided good feedback to your writing. The papers were easy and did not even require much. The class was easy overall.

He is extremely nice and helpful. No tests, no final, only 3 essays and few online homework's. Very easy, but you also learn a lot throughout the semester. Understanding and grades easy- lets you write about whatever you like. Takes roll, but lets the class out early often. Best teacher I've had. Would highly recommend.

I hated English 5, I actually failed it before. But this professor made it great. He's kind of boring to hear, but he's honestly an amazing person. He's extremely understanding and helpful.

By far, my favorite professor. No final, no tests, no quizes, no books! You work progressively towards a portfolio which is very easy as long as you keep up with your corrections on essays. Funny guy and wish he taught more classes!

I took English 10a, and professor Bethel was making his class a blast. He really understands his students, and when they need help, he will give all he can to help you. Awesome Feedback from him. If you miss something by accident, and he knows you tried, he will give you full credit for that assignment as long as you turn it in. The best.

This is by far the best prof i've had! he's super nice his class is portfolio based but he walks you through it and you only do three essays and with the amount of help you get in class they basically write themselves. no exams no books just some articles on blackboard and even those were super easy. he offers office hours and is very organized!!

Dan is such a great professor. He is very supportive of his students and gives the necessary feedback in order for you to pass the class. He's one of my favorite professors here at Sac State and I would recommend anyone thinking of taking English 5 to take this class. Very easy A if you put in the right amount of work into it. A bonus is he's cute!

Dan was my favorite professor this semester! He is so entertaining and truly cares about his students. For english 5, there was only 3 papers and a few online homework assignments that were super easy. His expectations are clear and I really learned a lot from him. Lots of time in class to work on your papers and he's always there to help!

This professor is a genius. I was terrible at essays until I took him and he made me an expert writer in English. He is so great, he can even teach a monkey how to write!

Professor Dan is a great professor! Class does consist of a lot of essays and attendance is really important. 7 absences and you fail the class.

Majority of every assignment is graded for completion. As long as you do your work you will get a good grade. He explains things really well and really cares about the students.

If professor Bethel was a comedian Id definitely go to his shows. Hes always got jokes just at the top of his head for anything. But overall, as a professor, hes really smart and cares for his students. Always available to help students and gives great advice. One of the best professors Ive had as a freshman.

Dan is a good professor. He cares for his students and honestly tries his best to help them out. The class does require you to write a lot but its a reasonable amount. There are readings comments you must do on canvas. Overall a good professor the work isn't hard but its a lot, 2 major major papers, many peer reviews, and one cumulative portfolio.

I took his ENG 10/11 class and loved it! He spreads out the work so it's not so stressful and he encourages office hours if you're stuck. He loves to crack jokes and he seems really intimidating at first but he's the coolest professor I've had. 100% would take his class again in a heartbeat!

You will do good in this class if you actually put in effort in the assignments and papers. He gives great feedback on the papers and really wants students to be successful. The rubrics are very clear and he will answer any question you may have.

I took his English 5 class and it was probably the best class I've taken. He is super chill and hilarious. He's definitely the best professor I've had so far. 10/10 would recommend.

DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! Take his class if you have the chance. I took his ENGL 5 class and I was blown away on how clear his lectures were. He does a lot of peer review and responses on canvas but it's not too much if you are on top of everything. No textbook, just lots of print outs. Grades on effort. No final or quizzes, just a portfolio as final.

TAKE HIM

This professor has a very great sense of energy. He has made my least favorite subject much less painful to use. For those of you who hate writing and doing essays this is the professor you want!

He is a easy grader and has great energy.

I LOVE DAN SO MUCH!! I'm an ENGL major and I feel I grew as a writer. 3 papers, final portfolio, reading articles and doing responses. I wish I could take him again but I'm exempt from ENGL20 :( He has a dry / awkward sense of humor and I found him to be relatable, kind, clear, and overall a great professor! I cannot recommend him enough.

Best english teacher I've had! Although it was through zoom, it was a smooth class. Weekly readings and discussions (easy), daily 1 question journals (easy), he really cares for his students. 3 main essays overall with a final portfolio. Everything is strightforward and doable, very managable! easy going and funny. Very chill and easy to talk to.

Professor Bethel is an incredible. He made me actually want to write. His class was always so fun and interesting! Its very easy to understand his lessons. He gives hw based on the lessons and his lectures are amazing! If you take an engl class, I definitely recommend you take it with Bethel. He is encouraging and cares about his students.

BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD HANDS DOWN. He's super nice, funny, and caring. If you're confused about anything, he will take the time to explain it to you. For online class, we had weekly reading responses/homework journals and 2 essays. If you put in the work, you will pass! This is not a tough class and zoom meetings are not mandatory. He's a real gem!

had him for my fall 2021 semester. Didnt pressure you into conversation even though you will want to talk bc hes cool. The class all sets you up for a final portfolio so a lot of stuff is completion graded & he lets you revise everything. Gives great feedback & loves to crack jokes. Truly cares about his students! He also responds to emails fast!

English 5 with Professor Bethel was a breeze for me. There are 3 essays that you have to write, we got to choose the topics for every essay. Professor Bethel typically gives feedback on essays very fast. There are also weekly reading responses, in class journals, and homework journal that are worth a good part of your grade.

Very funny professor. If you need help with anything just email him or ask him after class. very understanding. Try to do all your work. If your assignment is a couple minutes late hes not gonna give you a big fat zero but try to turn things on time anyways its a really nice and easy class.

HES A GREAT PROFESSOR! You do have a few papers with lots of drafts but that's expected because it is an English course. He does take attendance every class, and attendance is taken into account at the end of the semester.

He is a kind & caring professor who grades easy as long as you do the work. Attendance is required, but no book is needed. Three essays in total & a final portfolio. Weekly journal entries & reading responses. His class was very easy & I highly recommend him!

Professor Bethel is a great professor. Clear lectures. He cares more about his students doing the work than if it's submitted on time. He wants all his students to pass. two essential papers: discussion posts now and then, and journals every lecture day due that same day. If you don't want a challenging class, take him. THE BEST ENGLISH PROF EVER! I love how he is very reasonable when it comes to late assignments, you could honestly wait until the last month of school to do all of the previous assignments and he will still accept them. I will say that he does teach the same things in both engl 5 and 20 classes but, there's no other prof I would want to retake.

Best English for one reason: when we have essays, he grades for completion, not how good it is. He sees it because he doesn't care what skill level one is at; he cares for improvement. Any improvement is improvement and that makes his class amazing despite me not liking English classes again. 10/10

I feel like this was the first time ever where I not only enjoyed an English class but I left feeling like I'd learned something and improved as a writer. Super understanding and helpful!

He makes his lectures very easy to understand and is very fun because he cracks jokes from time to time. There is a lot of moments where you will be needing to talk with your peers to revise a draft of some kind. He gives very good feeback and notes on how to improve and as long as you do the work fully you'll do good in his class.

Genuinely such a kind-hearted and silly old man. Someone needs to free him and let him draw all of his comics in peace. 10/10 would have again.
