This professor gives interesting lectures and is easy to understand. He gave our class 3 book reports and two test to base our grade on. His test were pretty easy and he was very fair in his grading. Textbook was hardly ever used, and test questions were from his PowerPoint lectures. Take good notes and you'll do fine.
go to class u'll pass ur tests
Hes a great teacher and super cute
Mr. Blumlo is an excellent teacher. He manages to make the material fun and interesting on a daily basis. His grading focuses on the (3) major papers/presentations and a midterm and final exam. If you pay attention in class and follow the guidelines he gives for the papers then you will easily earn an A.
He is super smart, interesting, and cute! Take his classes! Tests are easy and so are the papers! I actually enjoyed going to class!
Tough class, however if you take notes and read the books, you can easily get a B. I did not have a textbook for the class and all of the test questions came from lecture. I would recommend him over others at RVC,
I have taken 2 classes with him and have received A's in both classes. He is easy to talk to, gets to the point, and wants his students to succeed. Never read the textbooks, only used notes. Take his class, you will be glad you did.. even if you dislike history!
Class was never interesting for me. I guess if you like to learn about the middle east take the class but I didn't enjoy the class. The teacher wasn't too bad, just the material was boring.
I've always considered History to be boring but he makes it interesting. He puts it into words that's easy to understand. Plus he's super nice (:
I loved the class, if you take notes and study YOU WILL GET AN A! He isn't patient with people who don't take notes and text in class. But he is helpful, and made history interesting. I definitely would recommend taking his class.
This professor is very young. His notes are very confusingly organized. Most vetted history professors keep on a timeline whereas Blumlo is all over the place. If you really want to take the class know that there is a lot of reading and that you should bring a tape recorder.
Blumlo is an awesome professor! The person who left the previous comment must be venting because he/she didn't get a good grade. Blumlo is a vetted professor, smart, and always willing to help. The lectures are in chronological order and are very easy to follow. All you have to do is PAY ATTENTION and use your brain.
He definitely knows what he is talking about and is really good at answering question asked in class.
Prof. Blumlo is excellent! I had him for Mid. East History. He really puts it in a way that is easy to understand! He isn't bad to look at. He treats delicate subjects delicately. Take good notes, don't miss too much class, all of that. Class note though, DO NOT LET YOUR CELL PHONE GO OFF IN CLASS. Also, many opportunities for extra credit!
Dr. Blumlo is an excellent teacher. His passion and expertise on the material presented allow for engaging and interesting class discussions. He is an academic with high expectations for his students, but he is extremely helpful and fair. I would highly recommend taking a class with Dr. Blumlo.
I took Blumlo for two history classes a couple years ago and after having horrible teachers at my new university, I appreciate his enthusiasm and interest in his subject so much more. He can answer any questions, always helpful, and very interesting. He made a tough subject manageable.
Very good teacher, I would highly recommend him. Attendance is mandatory as most of the information from tests come from his lectures.
Dr. Blumlo is an excellent instructor! His lectures are easy to comprehend. This semester will be my second class with him. His lectures, never boring. Take plenty notes, study, do the essays and you will pass! And, I advise you to refrain from calling him "Mister". He's a Freaking Doctor! Haha. I highly recommend him! He is also quite attractive.
Dr. Blumlo is great! His lectures are interesting, informative and entertaining! He is an excellent professor who truly cares about his students. He does get annoyed with "stupid" people so... the previous comment must have been left by a complete moron who never showed up for class and did not complete the required work.
Very nice, easy going class. Pay attention and be respectful and things should be fine. Grades based off of 2 book reports, midterm and final. Gives study guide for the tests and easy prompts for the book reports. Thought he graded really easy on all assignments. Go to class, take notes, be respectful and you will do well.
Fantastic teacher with a lot of personal interest in the field.
Fantastic class! Western Civ was not a class that I was too interested in, but it was great. The teacher was excellent, and there was a tremendous atmosphere in the class between all of the students. Dr. Blumlo was funny, smart, and very approachable. He made a lot of helpful comparisons to current events, pop culture, and Game of Thrones.
He is a good guy and he knows what he is talking about. But the lectures are very long and can be very boring at times, it's also a lot of information to retain. Make a point to show up to class and get ready to read because there is a lot of it. Don't make the same mistake I did, do your stuff.
GREAT PROF! super smart albeit young! Interesting lectures makes history come alive-didnt care about history unti li took his class this past summer! Really interesting and very kind, personable, read a LOT but worth the time- really inspires you to keep going too! Great guy and LOVE the personal stories, approachable, considerate- A+, take again
Very good teacher. Lecture based class and easy to get a good grade in you take notes. Good speaker and really knows what he's talking about. One of my favorite teachers I've ever had.
Dr. Blumlo is pretty awesome. He is always willing to help students understand his information. All I can say is don't text in class, respect him, and pay attention and it will be a good semester.
His class can be interesting some days but usually I think it's boring. Although I love this professor he wasn't very attention grabbing. Come to class because the more you miss the more essays he makes you write. Take good notes it really makes a difference. Btw he loves when people ask questions (just not dumb ones)
The books that are assigned are really hard to get through but you have to read them to get an A in the class. He has a good sense of humor though and I learned a lot from him. Attendance isn't mandatory but notes are necessary and determines the amount of essays you have to write. Gives great guidelines for midterm and final.
I took his class in the Summer a couple years back and he impressed me so much i felt I needed to finally rate him here. He was funny and smart and very personable. The lectures were interesting and led me to look into other things that were spun off from the topics- a true way to really learn- it became fun when you just wanted to know more!
I really enjoyed having Dr. Blumlo as a professor. He does lecture, but it's easy to understand, and I was able to stay focused because he keeps it interesting. His class environment was also really welcoming and I felt comfortable speaking up in class. I thought he was a great teacher with good ideas for assignments!
While this class is lecture based, he includes powerpoints that make everything very clear. Just show up, take good notes, and DO NOT text in class!! Respect him and he will make accommodations for you if ever necessary.
one paper--plus a re-write policy three books easy
Reads word for word off power points. Doesn't elaborate on most things, and the few things he does don't help when test time comes. Gets off track easily to attempt to make the class laugh (doesn't usually work). Not a bad a guy by any means but doesn't seem to have the intrest in what in what he's teaching.
Didn't love the course, but he was a fantastic professor. Lectures were a bit boring but he threw in enough humor and personal stories to make them good. I didn't use the textbook but it could be helpful. Start reading the monographs as soon as they are assigned and same goes for the essay. He did everything he could to help us succeed.
This class is very easy if you show up and pay attention. There were only two exams and 3 quizzes. The quizzes are based on the books your suppose to read for the class. There's a 1,500 essay he explains it on the first day and it's due at the end on the semester. He also lets you turn it in early and he'll give some feedback. Awesome teacher!
Great professor! He turns what could be really boring material into more of a story format. Really makes it easier to understand and way less boring.
Whenever I'm in his class I feel as if I'm watching a lecture on the old history channel. Its entertaining and informative. This professor is fun to listen to as he makes his lectures less like a standard "sit and listen," but as a "sit and learn." His midterm and final only focuses on that half of the semester. Would recomend to anyone.
I had a great experience with this professor. He gives great feedback and is funny. His lectures are pretty boring but overall this is a great class.
Great man, great story teller, great teacher.
legend
Not too difficult if you come to class. There's only one paper--and you get to re-write it. He has study guides, reviews before the tests, gets everything graded quickly. A few discussions of the books as well.
He is a lecture based teacher but makes sure you understand the material before continuing. Only has one paper that you get to choose from 4-5 prompts and he gives you the whole semester and allows rewriting . Only 3 quizzes. One for each book read. Gives you study guides and is always kind and very friendly. Highly recommend!
I loved his lectures! I have done poor w/history classes as i'm not good at memorizing events or taking notes. Proff Blumlo talks about events in a story-like manner. His power points are not too wordy and they're only key points easier for your brain to recall what was said in class that day. BEWARE the notes are not helpful if you skipped.
His lectures can be a little boring, but just get some caffeine in you and youll be fine haha! Hes funny, gives good feedback, and shows videos (all comedy central.. lol) a decent amount! theres little to no homework too! definitely would take again.
Nice professor overall but his knowledge of going over stuff before an exam was bad. Gives us the material to know what to expect but the type of questions he exposed to all of us on any exam wasn't similar as what he provided on any study guides. Anyone that failed his class, I'm sorry, only he were a bit more indulgent, you would have had pass.
This class was terrible and very time consuming. You need to read three books and write a six page essay. I would suggest you don't take this class unless you 're a history nerd. You are graded on a few things so getting A is terribly hard. Professor doesn't prepare you for test. The classroom got more and more empty as the semester went on
Professor Blumlo is a pretty good teacher, but his lectures can be a bit boring. There are only a few assignments so you need to make sure you do not completely bomb one assignment, because it will be hard to get your grade up. Also the midterm and final study guides are unclear and really do not help in the exam. Attendance is MANDATORY.
Dr. Blumlo is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. His lectures are very heavy. There are 3 books that you have to read and then quizzes on them. Also, a midterm, final, and essay. Be prepared to dedicate time into studying for his class. It's a lot of work, but he shows a lot of Drunk History to make up for it.
I'm sure he is a good professor to some students, but to me right off the bat it was ridiculous. He dropped me from the class when I could not attend the first zoom session. I then emailed him to explain why I could not attend and no response. I messaged him on Canvas and no response. I emailed him 5 times after and still no response.
took his online HST-143 class. There are 3 novels you are required to read and he quizzes you on them, you read the books the quizzes are easy. 3 exams if you pay attention to the powerpoints you'll do fine on the tests. He does offer some extra credit if you attend the zoom meetings. There is one final essay and he offers a makeup policy.
Professor Blumlo has three required reading for this class which you take a quiz on. He provides voiced PowerPoint lectures which covers the class material and you are tested on the material during the midterm and final. There is also an essay with your choice of prompt from one of the three required readings. Overall a good class, but not easy.
Blumlo was really well done. Great guy, he was accessible outside of class, and I don't know what's wrong with everyone's 1-star reviews, they just weren't to understanding or maybe even good at the class. Blumlo is very much different than what the 1-star reviews say.
He's really nice. He is willing to talk to you outside of class. If you approach him with a question, then he will gladly answer it.
Professor Blumlo himself was great, he was always ready to help and gave opportunities for extra credit. On top of weekly studies, you also have to read three novels during the course of the class. This got to be too much for me at times.
I loved Dr. Blumlo! Would love to take another class of his. Hes very well-spoken and politically correct (which is important for a history class imo), and is also very funny. He doesnt have much tolerance of class clowns but, personally, Im all for that because college isnt the place for being an idiot. VERY interesting lectures, mwahh!!
Makes history very very interesting and teaches information that is facts. Fantastic professor
Hes not a horrible teacher just kinda bland when he is teacher he can make a jibe mid class or talk before but when he is teacher its just slides and its kinda boreing
Course structure was read 3 book and take tests on them along with a midterm and final based on power-points. Blumlo loves short answer questions. The books are fairly difficult and boring and he waits until after the test to discuss them for extra credit. I was told in-person he did discussions before. Offers other extra-credit throughout.
Not bad not great
The only annoying thing about the class is that you have to read three books throughout the semester and take a quiz on them. He tries to make the topics interesting, so I like his teaching style. You only have one paper and he allows a rewrite policy if you turn it in early. He's also kind of funny
4 classes,4 different semesters,4 As, 2 excellence in history awar, Blumlo made me look forward to his class everyday, immensely entertaining and proper real history, class with lecture, powerpoint and videos were always attention keeping, genuinely interesting and at times very funny, very caring and helpful, 2 tests, 3 books and papers, insightful
Best history professor ever. Took and received As in 4 full semester courses. HST of world until 1800 or close also HST of world since 1800, HST of middle east until 1600, HST of Western Civilization I, 2 excellence in history awards, helpful, outgoing, understanding, caring, made it never feel like a class it's always intriguing and interesting
His class was fairly difficult as far as a history class goes. Lectures are boring, but that's to be expected. Read the books and show up to class if you want to pass. He showed Drunk History a couple of times, and that made up for some of the boring-ness.
Horrible teacher, made me read books in college. The books were horrible also, they were not one bit Interesting.
A lot of work for a history class. Grades very hard. Not accessible when you need something. Wouldn't recommend him.
It is a history class, if you think you won't need to read you don't understand history. He is excellent. He links lecture 1 through his last lecture which many do not make a point to do. He is clear, available, & insightful! If you respect history & do the work you will be fine. Most of the novels he assigns are available in audiobook! Utilize it!
Professor Blumlo is a great guy, he's funny, entertaining and makes class enjoyable. He answers any question you have and is readily available. He doesn't assign any homework so your grade is dependent on how well you do on exams and quizzes, also attendance. Very lecture heavy. Overall 4/5 because if you miss something on a lecture you wont know.
I didn't like history coming into this class, but Dr. Blumlo turned it around. His lectures were entertaining and fun to listen to because he turned them into engaging stories. He cared for and respected his students. The exams were well-written and easy to understand. There was a lot of reading, but he cared about our opinions on the books.
Professor was anti semantic and named his cats after nazi and nazi sympathizers. He talked about his views throughout.
Professor Blumlo is not a bad teacher. He goes over the material in a very thorough manner. The lectures can become a bit monotonous at times so be aware but definitely manageable. Not much homework besides reading the books outside of class. That being said make sure you read the books because the quizzes over the books are worth quite a bit.
I learned a lot from this class. The lectures could sometimes be boring, but they were always full of the required-to-know material. The books that were required were all fairly interesting.
This class was great. The tests and papers were hard but fairly graded and he provides some good feedback. If you like reading you are in luck as this class has you reading 3 books. You are gonna need to read at least one of them to do the final paper. Instructions were pretty clear and the discussions were easy
Generally good professor, plenty of extra credit is available. I ended with a 101.2%. You are not graded by many assignments, about 7 overall, but none are hard if you actually read the books. The final paper is relatively easy to ace and each exam is easy to prepare for. If you don't do the work you won't pass, if you do, you can relax.
There are 6 grades for the whole semester, all of them being tests and one paper. His tests are extremely difficult. Lectures are SOO boring. Attendance is graded, so you have to attend if you want to pass. The books he pics are boring. The essay he assigns is graded harder than by any English teacher I have ever had.
Was okay. I didn't like having to read 3 books and remember them for quizzes. Some of the books are long and take time, they come up on you quickly also. Quizzes are hard because of time limits. No really heads up when book reports are due.
His lectures are good & he let us use our books & some notes on the tests. The only thing that sucked was the readings. There were three books we had to read & you really need to read them to pass the tests. One time he was talking about the movie Cars & couldn't remember the title... "You know that one movie with the cars?" Yes. It's called Cars.
I am not a huge history person (I am a science major) and found the class to be fine as far as history goes. I didn't like reading three books but, he is a fair grader and often curves scores based on how the group does as a whole.
There is quite a bit of reading, but the books are interesting and you don't have to read too much at a time. The course was structured well and it was clear what you had to do to get a good grade. Lectures were good, especially for an online class. The assignments were meaningful for learning instead of being busywork.
Generally easy class. Homework assignment every week that's open book. One big paper at the end. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
Dr. Blumlo is realistic and super helpful for students taking online classes. His expectations and the syllabus are perfectly organized and clear. The lectures were interesting and informative, making the class almost easy.
He rambles a lot during class but sometimes it does relate back to the topic. All the grades are tests and worth a lot of points.
Lectures only, once covered three wars in one class period. He gives extra credit for participation, I had a 105% by the end of semester. 2/3 books were interesting. If you don't take notes fast, you might struggle a bit. He seems very interested in history, so if you need extra resources, I'd ask. Very little homework other than reading.
I enjoyed his lectures and his overall teaching style. He is a good professor, but he is a sorta awkward guy, so some interactions with him were funny. I would recommend his class if you need a History or Fine Arts credit and want to learn from a guy who knows his stuff.
Lectures were extremely boring; emphasis on "extremely". You're going to take notes all class period. Sitting through his class felt like watching paint dry. He can be really awkward which can be funny sometimes. 2/3 books were interesting. Participate in discussions for extra credit. Overall an easy class. If you skip class, you're going to fail.
