Very helpful teacher. I disagreed with a lot of the students that complained about his teaching style. He seemed very eager to teach, to help where help was needed, and seemed to take an interest in how well we all did in his class.
Prof. Brewster is a very helpful teacher; however, do not get on his bad side. He throws fits when people tick him off, literally. He definitely has the right to though, because at first people take him as passive. Beware of the e-mail complaints...........
Very good, straight forward professor. He wants everyone to succeed, but wont give you anything without some effort. His sarcasm creates a wonderful classroom environment. He establishes a relationship unlike any I have ever experienced in life. I hope he teaches upper division courses soon.
Lectures are tedious. The guy emails u the powerpoint before or after each class. Plenty of assignments & projects to boost grades. Quizzes are very upfront & easy. Provides reviews 4 tests which he usually gives the EXACT ? that will be on the test. Extra credit offered. Good cluster A course.
Easiest A I ever got
great teacher, had him last semester. awesome class, definately take him if you can.
This is how a class should be taught. He showed some very interesting, controversial movies and had some important class discussions. I really enjoy going to class. He practicly gives you the exams. So as long as you put a little effort into studying, you'll get an A. He's really funny too.
Very good teaching style. He wants his students to do well in the class, along with learn the material. Will give extra credit and reviews before the tests. Would highly recommend taking him.
He has a tiiight teaching style unlike any other He shows controversial but very meaningful movies! If you go to class, he gives you plenty of points! You get to watch cool movies like Pulp Fiction to write an essay on, and he basically gives you whats on the exams! He's straight up about people in class that dont show respect& he is really funny!
I can't imagine how anyone could give him a bad rating. He goes well out of his way to make sure his students have EVERY opportunity to get an A. If they don't, it definitely is NOT his fault. Great teacher- would DEFINITELY recommend him.
This class was great! He is a real cool guy! If you go to class you will be guarenteed an A. He gives you the answers for the exams! He is straight forward. If you do bad in this class you really shouldn't be in college.
Prof. Brewster is one of the best professors I have had at WVU. He is always interesting and makes class worth going to. HIs tests are easy and sometimes he give you the answers before the test. I took him for SOCA 101, and took his 107 Social Problems class just for the fun of it. Definitely recommend him for any SOCA class.
I've taken his class and none of this is true. I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote all these affirmative comments himself.
He's a gret teacher, he'll challenge you and make you think in ways you never thought possible, yet at the same time, put a smile on your face.
Good teacher
good class
very good
Awesome teacher. Teaching for students, unlike most teachers I've had. Very easy class. Everyone should take him. Most interesting class I've had!
This professor is the best. If you don't do well on your tests-no sweat. There is so much extra credit and help given for everything else that it won't matter. Definitely a good professor to have.
test reviews the class before gives almost all test questions and answeres word for word. sometimes intense subject matter - actually a class that deals with the real world. you will be much better off if you go to class and actually speak if you have something to say.
I had taken his Soc 101 class and since I got the best grade I decided to take his 107. Both are very easy but in 107 you have alot more fun. 107 may have more work involved but its def a class worth taking. He makes sure anyone who tries to attempt his class get a D or above, if you get a C or below then you def werent trying! High recommendations
Very fun class
Awesome Teacher. He made ever class interesting.. He had reviews to help sometimes 2 days of them. On the final he gives you 80 questions out of 100 thats if you have to take it.
Easiest class maybe ever. As he says, if you don't do well in this class you don't belong in college. You learn a lot of interesting stuff and watch GREAT movies. If you can tolerate some of the topics that he discusses, definitely take this class. And if you can't, don't be such a wuss.
Good teacher! Very down to earth. Class is easy and I wish that I would have taken it 3 times a week rather than two.
The easiest class I have ever taken. He gives you most of the questions and answers that will be on the test. The movies are interesting and I never fell asleep in his class. The professor is cute and funny. If you don't have him for Sociology, I recommend dropping the one you have until you can get Brewster.
Brewster is THE MAN... alot of extra credit, and does excelent reviews for the tests
Brewster is honestly one of the best professors at this school. His classes were so interesting, and he kept our attention the entire time. Loved his personality and the way he teaches. I learned a lot in his class and thoroughly enjoyed it. He's also extemely accessible outside of class and anyone who fails this class should rethink college.
This guy is the coolest dude every. I actually didnt mind gettin up for his 9 oclock class. I was excited to actually go and never missed a class.
Very easy going, lots of extra credit, he emails you lecture notes and gives very effective test reviews.
This is can be a real tool but he's fair none-the-less. Show up to class and do the work and you'll do well. Don't miss the review sessions they make all the difference.
His constant attempts to shock people gets old, and yes, he's kind of a jerk, but his classes are easy. The topics are interesting and the movies are thought provoking, but are definitely not for everyone. Don't miss the review sessions, he gives you half the test verbatum.
he's a great teacher and he really cares about his students.
Great teacher! really knows how to put the students first!
simply the man
i am in his 101 night class. good man. i have honestly changed alot of my views on different types of groups of people due to his views. he has talks that dont deal with the class, just about people. i appreciate what he has taught me, which is more than he is required to. thanks mr. brewster.
extremely easy, go to class, study a little. he gives you 35 of 50 test questions. and he gives out mad bonus points
He has got to be one of my favorite teachers at WVU so far. He cares about his students and actually wants them to learn a thing or two about social issues in today's society. This class is great.
Easy class, go to class and you will get an A. He gives you 35 answers on a 50 question test.
This class is an easy A if you go. He gives you 35 out of 50 questions for every test, and 70 out of 100 questions for the final. To top that all off, he constantly gives you bonus points for just going to class.
Makes it easy to succeed if you attend class but most people think what they hear is true and end up doing poorly. On his first exam in my class, only 19 people out of like 250 got an "A". If that sounds easy then I guess it is...
One of the best teachers I have had, he tells you like it is and doesnt really care who you are and thats what I liked about him.. And he was always giving bonus points which was good too.. Take BREWSTER !!
easy class...gives test questions and if you have a 97 or above curves the final so you dont have to take it
This guy is pretty good. Very opinionated which makes class go fast and easy.
Love this prof! Great guy, really glad I took him for social prob. One of those people u'd like to get to know outside of class just to hear more of his opinions and views on the worlds issues. Very funny teacher so I don't dread coming to class at all. If u want to really learn something about life and grow as an individual, take Brewster!
brewster is a great professor, i highly reccomend this class to anyone who has to take a soc class. he's hilarious but can also be intimidating at times. don't be afraid to speak up, unless you're about to make a prejudice remark. also girls, don't wear uggs to class..he will probably make fun of you, esp. if you sit in front!
Awesome teacher.. Easy A if you go to class because he gives crazy extra credit. He reviews before tests making them SOO easy!! He's very open minded and tells you straight up what he's like on day 1. Highly recommend taking him over Feathers any day!
great teacher.class is interesting..he gives over 30 review questions out of 50 before every exam, all quizzes are on the syllabus, watch 3 or 4 great movies during the semester, and the grading is very fair..if you get anything less than an A, you should drop out of college (and if you have a 98% during finals week you do not have to take final)
Easy class if you show up and look at the slides... which he emails to you every week. lots of activities and movies. tests are easy- he tells at least 35/50 questions in a review game... winning teams get lots of extra credit. yeah, he's opinionated, but don't be rude and you'll be fine. he def makes class itneresting and understands students.
amazing teacher!! great, HiLArioUS!!!! loved going to his class. HIGHLY recommended!!
Well, if you go, it's an easy class to get an A in. The only bad thing about him is if you have a crisis, which I did, and he gives points, he won't let you have them back since you were gone even if it was for a reason. But he's pretty good.
BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD. HE IS JUST THE MAN! FUNNY AND VERY UNDERSTANDING.
There not much more that can be said that hasn't been said before. It's a very easy, & very interesting class. Brewster is funny & helpful. You'll like the class a lot more if you are liberal. He gives you 35/50 test questions & if you do well throughout the semester, you can be exempt from the final. I recommend to anyone in field or 4 an elective
Since when did easy equate great teaching???
Keeps things interesting so that you actually pay attention and learn without even knowing that you're actually learning everything.
I acutally look forward to going to Brewsters class. He tells it how it is and I think thats why I like him. Class is very easy if you go.
He's great! He's very interesting and fun!
Not only is he a great teacher he makes lectures fun and he's SO FUNNY!!! i loved going to class!
I love his class I wish I could take it again!!!
Makes things very interesting
He is awesome!
Great profesor. His class was one of the reasons I changed my major to sociology. It definitely sparked my interest in the subject matter. People complain about his swearing in class, but who doesn't swear? This is WVU, not church!
Brewster is a great teacher! He is interesting and fun. The class was super easy. I strongly recommend this class! :D
he keeps you interested in the class
Awesome professor, very liberal at times but his class was always interesting. He shows some really good movies (American History X, Crash, Hotel Rwanda) If your looking for a sociology class that's fun and relatively easy you need to take his class.
He is so awesome and so down to earth. He curses in class and its hilarious.. everyone that has him really enjoys him. He gives 35 out of the 50 questions out before his exams and for the final gives 75 out of the 100 answers.. hes awesome, you will learn a lot in this class.
He's a great teacher, very funny and can be offensive, but I learned a lot!! This class isn't as easy as others seem to think 101 is, but it's great. I think he only gave about 9 A's out of like 60 ppl though. He didn't like that either!!! But it's a great class
Easy? Yes. Arrogant? Yes. Overbearing? Yes. Great class if you are extremely liberal and share all of his opinions. Terrible if you have the audacity to disagree with him, he will berate you and degrade you. He's a disgrace to the Soc Department and WVU, in all honestly. Easy class does not mean good teaching.
I don't get why people say he berates students who disagree, no professor could get away with that (and he isn't dumb enough to try). He is a raging liberal, tells you that from the start, but being honest, how many people teaching at the collegiate level isn't a liberal. Take him, you will open your eyes to the world in a different way.
loved this class!!! never a dull moment when it comes to daniel brewster. would highly recommend even if you dont need the class. you learn something new everyday. you will get an A!!!
Brewster is hands down the best teacher I have had in my college career. Yea his class is easy if you study and hes outspoken, but he actually opened my eyes to new way of thinking. None of his classes Ive attended have ever been boring, you always laugh and learn something new! My best advice is to def. take him!! You wont regret it!
funny. really easy. take him if you can
This class is easy. Tests are all multiple choice, true/false, and he plays a review game the class before the test in which he gives you 35 of the 50 test questions. Quizs are moderately difficult, but he gives a fair amount of extra credits. He is a raging liberal and as a conservative I wanted to punch him ocassionally, but thats college for ya.
If you're a conservative and get mad easily you probably don't want to take this class. he's a raging liberal! Class is always intersting though, just make sure you go to class occassionally. He can be scary but he's nice when you talk to him one on one. Definitely an easy class if you show up and turn in your papers.
Hes really blunt and he'll make you laugh. His lectures are fun, you watch good movies, he gives you test questions before the test... hes a good teacher.
Very clear, easy class, watch movies, assignments on movies not too difficult, extremely interesting, makes you want to come to class, gives bonus for attending.
Hands down, Daniel Brewster is likely the most outspoken teacher that I've ever had. Objectivity is sometimes sacrificed for his own views. When you look at it, it looks as if he might be "berating" those in conflict with his opinion, he is simply asking them why it is that they hold this view. The only people he berates are those who are ignorant.
Brewster I very entertaining. He's a character, but i also learned a lot from him
Class is easy, but he's a terrible teacher. An absolutely over the cliff liberal, if you dare to be conservative and disagree with him he will taunt you and berate you in front of the class. Turns everything into liberal politics- you really won't learn much, other than seeing a classic example of why you shouldn't be an extreme liberal.
Gives a disclaimer on first day that he is liberal, may not be a good move. Discusses social problems from a devil's advocate point of view. No way he calls students out in class, he is too smart with all the whiney students to do something so foolish. Easy class but not really his fault, subject isn't very hard if you attend class and read
Definitely opens students' eyes to some very important social issues in the world. He is clearly liberal, but I do not believe he berates students; he points out ignorance that people have. Not a hard class, but you'll learn a lot in terms of social injustices/discrimination.
I had two of his classes and they were easy because he directs you to the important topics. Brewster more than any instructor I ever had forced me to think outside the box and question what I had been previously taught. He would conduct class as a devil's advocate, asking us to justify our opinions, rather than just stating them as fact.
This class was actually fun. I enjoyed the fact that he made students write about why they should support gay marriage and shows controversial media in class. One of the few teachers who actually knows how to get in touch with students and actually how to make them learn. Review sessions are extremely helpful!
The class is liiiiiiiiiiiike really easy. Just go to class and take notes when he tells you to which isnt very often. Easy class. Just sit in the back and snooze until class is over.
Class is super easy. He keeps it interesting, and he's hilarious. Probably my second favorite teacher I've had at WVU, behind my chem teacher Schraf.
I was in the class that the kid said that about racism in America and he definitely made that up. Brewster said he agreed obviously because people voted him in but when one candidate has to stand behind bullet proof plastic and another doesnt there is a problem. He opened my eyes to a lot of social problems. He is a great teacher in my opinion.
It was a good class. Not hard, just had to study slides for tests. Classes were fun, and it does matter for attendance in his class. Overall its a good 101 class.
Very easy class! Anyone who says that he bashes you if you don't agree with him obviously just said something extremely stupid during class. He tries to get you to see things from all angles. He tells you when attendance is mandatory, gives plenty of extra credit, and gives you half the test questions before the exam. Cake walk.
I loved him! He is a great professor! He is very open minded, as well as informative on different veiws. Soca 101 is a great class with Brewster compared to other WVU soca profs!
This class was the easiest class I've ever had in college. You are exempt from taking the final if you have over a 98%- this is pretty easy to do because there are a ton of bonus points. I read the textbook, but if you attend every class and really study the slides, you could probably get an A without reading. Oh, and he's hilarious!
He made the class very interesting, always funny, always extreme, and always mind-provoking. He has very strong opinions and I MOST DEFINITELY did not agree with all of his veiws, however the class was still a great one and I would recommend him to anyone.
I loved this class! He keeps it very interesting and easy to follow, he uses a lot of personal experiences and he is really funny! He randomly takes attendance so I recommend going to class and if you go to class he gives you 75% of the questions and answers to his tests!
I had him for Soc 101 and enjoyed it so much that I took Soc 207 just so I could have him again. He is a raging liberal, but even my best friend whose a right winged conservative enjoys him. Brewster will argue with you in class, but only if you're close minded. He is excellent and hilarious.
Pretty interesting class...he shows the best movies (Invisible Children, American History X, Laramie Project).
His class has gotten harder than it has been in the past. He doesn't give tons of bonus or a lot of the test questions anymore, and you need to read the textbook for the exams, but we still watch movies. He is a good teacher & he is very funny. I highly recommend taking him.
Good teacher and hilarious during lecture
Brewster was really cool and gave an insightful view on how to view society. He's a really cool person and some people get turned out by his raging liberal attitude. Which really doesn't make sense because sometimes I feel like he'd rather be an anarchist haha. By the way: "which I have never taught in my life."- lol wut?
By far my favorite teacher at the university. As long as you go to class and give and effort he will be willing to do about anything to help you as far as anwsering questions. Challenges you to think from different view points. Dont say dumb things in class.. Very funny during class. Recommend him to everyone but the close minded
Hilarious teacher! Attendance is mandatory, because he does randomly pass around an attendance sheet atleast once a week, but I enjoyed going to class just to hear his lectures. Tests aren't bad, but you should skim over your textbook and read the notes he gives you. Oh yeah, and the movies that you get to watch in class are great! :)
Don't pay attention to most of the comments on here- he writes many of them himself it appears.Brewster is an egotistical arrogant professor who attacks those who dare to think differently than him. I'm sure he believes that college classrooms are about sharing ideas- as long as they conform to his world view. Easy class does not mean good class.
He is a great professor to have. Very funny, lets a decent amount of the discussion up to the students. If you try in his class and give your best effort you should be able to get a good grade. You MUST read the book, detailed test question will come from there. This is a class you get out of it what you put into it.
His view are almost total opposite of mine but I really enjoyed his class. The lectures are interesting and all the movies he shows are great. Look over the book for the exams.
He is a great & hilarious teacher! Lectures are very interesting & uses a lot of examples. Gives 25 pts extra credit for attendance & curves exams. Highly recommend him!
Awesome teacher! hilarious lectures. soo glad I took him first semester!
Brewster is a one-of-a-kind professor. Encourages discussion in lectures, shows a couple of good movies, and doesn't care what people think about him. Class isn't difficult, extra credit sometimes for going to class and curved exams. Just don't do anything radical and make him mad, or else you will have trouble...perfect for a GEC
To be real, he is way too opinionated and doesnt express his views in a constructive way. Likes to bash on others and always say something about his students on facebook sites, not professional
I thought that Brew done a wonderful job and he knows how to get his point across and does it in a manner that the students can relate too. He is a one-of-a-kind and encourages a lot of great things, more than just coming to class. It was never a trouble to show up for that class, I enjoyed it. :)
The class is not that hard.He can be a bit much. Not the best.
i want to cuddle with him. sooo bad.
If you're a super conservative and have no interest in seeing things from another point of view then don't take Brewster. Otherwise he is a GREAT teacher, really opens up your eyes to social events and problems. Never read the book, and got 80-ish on all the exams but with all the extra credit he gives I still got an A. My fav professor.
Very entertaining; fun class; tests are difficult, but writing assigments and extra credit helps to bring up grade a lot; liberal, but not in your face about it; really makes you think... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I would not suggest this class to anyone who is open-minded.If you don't go with his opinions, you may dread going to class.
Great teacher, really entertaining to go to class. Interesting class-tells you exactly what will be on the test if you go to class. Loved it.
Trivializes important and interesting topics with superficial and banal points. Routinely denigrates and disrespects students from his other classes who state views which differ from his own--often in a petty and self-congratulatory manner. This class is just mind-numbingly superficial, and really needn't be so.
Really enjoyed having him as a professor! He always finds a way to make the class entertaining so it's very easy to stay awake and pay attention. The tests are NOT that hard if you do your readings. Make sure you attend class regularly because the lectures are very informative and will help you on the exams. Excellent teacher! Highly recommended!
brewster is the man. funniest guy. Tests are really hard. Class is pretty fun
Brewster is really a great teacher and understands that we are STUDENTS taking his class and don't know much about the subject going into it. I suggest though not saying something stupid and don't disagree with him if you can't back it up completely cause he will win!
Always a fun and interesting class! Tests are HARD, simple little things are always on them. But gives 1 or 2 bonuses overall for the semester which are worth a lot. It was the only non-A i got this semester and I got a B in his class.
Awesome! If he taught every Soc class, I'd be a Soc major. Take him! Hilarious! Ideal professor. Those who gave him bad ratings simply hold a grudge for a bad grade.
Love this guy! He's amazing. Took him for 101 and had to take him again for 207. He's very opinionated but he's funny with it, and he doesn't force you on his beliefs he just knows his facts so if you're gonna argue - do your research. A+ Read the book it's interesting and go to class, thats interesting too - and the tests will be no problem.
love him. im taking both upper level soc classes that he teaches next semester. you can tell he loves teaching and never makes his class boring
I.LOVE.BREWSTER. His powerpoints are online, he gives a study guide before the exams, and extra credit points. Kids **** about him not giving us the answers to the study guides, and no grade bumping - but his is very fair. I skipped class once, and was actually sad that I missed it! The material can get boring - but his jokes NEVER do. Take him!
Great prof.
Brewster is the man. Take him. He is a good guy, and really cares about other people.
The only teacher I have ever been inspired by
I LOVE BREWSTER !!!! HE WAS THE FUNNIEST TEACHER I EVER HAD. HE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT HE TEACHES, AND MAKES YOU GROW A PASSION FOR SOCIOLOGY
excellent teaching! knows what he's talking about, keeps you interested, and makes you want to learn more about the subject he's teaching!
Great Prof! Kept me interested the whole time !
Very good professor. Definitely worth taking. He knows what he's talking about, lectures are online, and gives you study guides for exams. Class is entertaining and you will enjoy going to class.
His class was super fun. I think I ended up telling my friend something new each week I learned from that class. Its pretty interesting stuff, and Brewster makes it really funny. He is very opinionated, and not afriad to air his beliefs/feelings. I loved him and all my friends who have taken him love him as well. Gives tons of extra credit!
My favorite instructor I have EVER had. Made sure both my friends who were taking SOCA 101 next semester registered for him. Made class interesting and has a great deal of passion for what he does.
The best teacher I have ever had. He is really opinionated but also really down to earth and understanding. I would recommend this professor to anyone that needs to take soca!
Amazing Teacher, actually teaches, you gain something. Class does take effort, but its not brain surgery. You study, pay attention you'll do great !
My favorite professor by far! He's hilarious and always makes class entertaining. His class is pretty easy as long as you attend lectures.
I loved having Professor Brewster for sociology. He is very blunt, but very affective. I have learned more in this class than any other college course I have taken thus far. Attendance is mandatory if you want to maintain a good grade. Tests are fair and a study guide is given. Do not just take notes on the slides, but what he actually lectures!
Prof Brewster taught one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken at WVU. He's not the easiest grader but does all he possibly can to help you recieve a good grade. He is probably now one of my favorite teachers and I highly recommend him to anyone.
One of the best professors i have ever had. Very engaging, knows the subject he teaches like the back of his hand, and made class interesting and worth attending. Even gave study guides for each exam. Definitely would take his class again, he's a very funny and nice guy.
Best professor I've had at WVU so far. He's blunt but it's extremely effective. He does everything he can to engage everyone in his lecture and activities outside of class. He's hilarious! I loved every minute of his lectures. One of the few classes I genuinely enjoyed attending.
The single most close-minded professor I've ever had the misfortune of scheduling. If you're interested in formulating your own opinion on a subject, steer clear.
I was previously uninterested in Sociology, but picked up a minor after taking his class.
best teacher at WVU hands down!!!!
Professor Brewster is the only teacher to have ever inspired me. He literally changed my life with his class. He is helpful, available whenever, interested in his students, engaged in the course, and makes Sociology so interesting. Liked him so much I'm taking another SOC class by him next semester. Truly an inspirational teacher.
The absolute best professor. I take classes I don't even need for my major just so that I can have him as a professor. Besides my mom e-mailing him and being completely ashamed of that lol. He's hilarious and really makes you think and challenges your views on things. He has taught me tolerance and acceptance of every type of person. Love him!
Great guy overall. He cares about others and feels strongly about what he teaches. He is very opinionated so like others have said, i wouldn't go against him in class or he will pretty much embarrass you in front of everyone. Other than that, it is easy to get a good grade in here. Read & take notes. TAKE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES!!!
You do have to work for the grade, but overall awesome class and awesome professor. He is understanding and compassionate. The crazy liberal your parents warned you about, but really a great professor and person. Get the book and make sure you read and do study guides
Hands down my best professor.
Brewster is an excellent professor. He will challenge you to become a more open-minded person, and you will learn a lot from his class. Yes he's very liberal. The class is relatively easy. Attendance is taken 20 times, you can miss 5. There are only 4 quizzes and 4 tests. Material is straight from the book. Take him.
Brewster is a great professor. Keeps the class entertaining. He is very "open" about his views but its only a semester and it is survivable. I recommend reading the book because it will benefit your grade. Attendance is huge points in this class so go as much as possible. Lectures are important
Pretty simple class. Brewster was super engaging and made the class interesting and worth going to. Did a very good job relating the material to the real world. Great GEC credit, recommend taking it. Definitely buy the book, some exam content isnt covered in lecture, only the book.
Hilarious teacher! Loved him from day one! He's very open to all walks of life, and anyone who rates this professor bad probably isn't! And he's never afraid to call people out on their _____! Great professor!
Best teacher I've had at WVU by far.
Definitely the best teacher I have had, and will have at WVU. Willing to meet anytime and gives the most effort I have seen to make sure one of his students succeeds. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He takes attendance randomly (20+ or so times per semester) and takes the # of how many days out of the total you show up and makes a percentage. TAKE HIS CLASS!
He's very liberal. If you are not, he will make you miserable and will insult you in front of the class. He is not professional. I recommend avoiding his class at all costs.
Professor Brewster was one of my favorite professors. He loves when people challenge his thoughts but wants to make sure his students do well. I would definitely take him again if I had the chance. He also gives about 70% of the test questions on the study guide.
Professor Brewster's SOCA 101 class should be mandatory for all students at WVU! I learned so much about what is going on around us that is not brought to our attention directly. He provides you with 70% of the test questions and you find the answers throughout the book and lecture notes. Fantastic intro class :)
He is the best teacher that I have had! I highly recommended him. I wrote a paper for his class and I personally put every detail in the paper knowing that he wouldn't judge me or treat me differently.
Very closed-minded. Not open to new ideas or any other than his own. His teachings are very liberal biased. Like the previous guy said, if you're wanting to formulate you're own ideas on a subject, steer clear.
Brewster is hands down one of the most intellectual person I know. He's engaging in class and is always open to other opinions (contrary to what people say) - just be prepared to back up your opinion. Gives you 60% of questions as a study guide for exams. Easy C is you don't try. B if you listen/take notes. If you want an A, read the book.
Mr. Brewster is more than an excellent professor. He is a bit liberal but is very professional, funny, interesting & helpful. Attendance, easy Media Reports, and memorizing simple study guides is all you need to get an A+ in Inequality and the Media.
I loved this professor! One of the best professors I have ever had. Makes the class very interesting. Enjoyed the class and the professor.
Professor Brewster is an awesome guy. Very strong in his beliefs and passionate about his work. Favorite professor so far in WVU and I would take his class every semester if I could. Take his class. He makes the lectures easy to understand keeps your attention. Pretty funny guy too
I spent only one semester at WVU, and Brewster was my most memorable professor. I still look back at the notes from his lectures to use for other classes. He's so passionate about what he teaches, I really hope everyone gets a chance to take at least one of his classes.
Loved him!! He is not afraid to say what he is thinking and is hilarious. He makes the class environment very happy and upbeat. I was not interested at all in the material, but he made class fun to be in every day. GO TOHIS REVIEW SESSIONS!! He gives you the answers to half of the test questions. Easy A if you study
Brewster is just an awesome professor. He makes you aware of the world around you while also being absolutely hysterical. His tests are fairly easy as long as you pay attention and read some. Class discussion is always enjoyable and I loved the class very much. He's active in many different student orgs, too, and has amazing stories to tell.
Obviously if you don't agree with his view on things you won't like him, but I thought he was hilarious and always keeps class entertaining. You have to do the work to get an A but he does offer some extra credit. I really enjoyed his class and hope to take him again soon!
Great Teacher
Great professor who teaches a very interesting class. With his interesting views and opinions on everything, he brings up very interesting class discussions. He likes to give lots of quizzes and pop quizzes and his test are pretty long and difficult. His test are very vocab oriented so make sure to know that. Also, make sure to go over lecture note
Fun class, very opinionated - don't take if you get offended easily
Great professor. Really open to discussion and comments during lecture. Tests are easy, but show up to the review sessions!! If you want to do well on the pop quizzes, read the assigned textbook material. There are a few assignmentspapers that are very short and simple. If you can fit this into your schedule, DO IT!
Brewster is one of the better known professors. He made sociology super relatable and brought it to terms that college kids can understand. I enjoyed learning from him and he made me really learn without realizing I was learning.
I took his class because I heard such great things about him. I wasn't impressed. I'm very liberal myself and thought he was over the top. Condescending and judgmental at times. I struggled with the quizzes but didn't ask for help because he just wasn't very approachable to me. Didn't seem interested when I did talk with him.
He's a great teacher that really engages his students into the course material. I think his liberal views will benefit the university well!
Demands that students do readings, can seem intimidating when he gets mad at people for not being able to answer question from readings. Clearly cares not only about learning but about the students and anyone who says different is crazy. He even challenges liberal thinkers when they throw out nonsense. Definitely one of the best, if not the best
I really like Brewster as a person, however I do not recommend taking one of his classes unless you really enjoy reading. When I was in this class I also had social theory, spanish and forensics...I spent more time on this course than I did any of these and ended up with a worse grade. He is also very closed minded in my opinion.
Brewster is a very interesting individual. He is a great guy but sometimes his views can make you feel uncomfortable because he is SO liberal.. And I am okay with that, but I know a lot of my friends who are not very understanding and found him offensive. Not very good at responding to emails. Makes class extremely fun with all of his storiesjokes
Attending class is like watching stand-up comedy.
Brewster's lectures are the best on campus. He really cares about his students and wants them to be better people. He's always on campus and constantly online so you can pretty much expect responses from him immediately. If you skip class you're doing yourself an injustice.
Always take Brewster. Clear and to the point. No bs. Great class.
He's awesome and so funny. He makes you rethink everything sociologically
Hilarious, sassy and says it like it is. Be aware he might offend if you're conservative. Is known for being an advocate around campus. He isn't known as an easy teacher because he has occasional homework assignments, takes attendance, gives out the occasional pop quiz, and expects you to read the book. However I would definitely take him again!
One of the best classes I ever took. Classes were interesting and enjoyable. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and if you take advantage of it, you should get an A. Don't take this class if you are easily offended.
I love Brewster, he is a great professor and he is the main reason why I choose to become a sociology minor.
Great personality and really funny. Not a hard class.
Loved the class, I did take it for my major but his lectures were very interesting and made you laugh a lot. He is younger so he can relate to students. Very liberal but you won't feel uncomfortable if you disagree. He likes to have open discussions in class with students, very positive learning environment, would for sure take more of his classes.
Honestly, one of the best professor I have had. Such an inspirational professor and HILARIOUS. Defiantly want to take his class again. If you look over the notes before tests you'll do fine.
He gives pop quizzes but honestly they are extremely easy if you listen in lecture. The book is sort of used but not really. Sometimes he'll throw in a book question but primarily everything is straight from lecture.
I absolutely loved this class, he made it very fun to go to. He gives so many extra credit options that aren't even papers, so they are interesting and you'd be a fool not to do them for some extra points. He really connects with the students and makes learning about Sociology fun. I would totally retake this class if I could, i loved it and him. 2
Professor Brewster is an amazing professor. His passion for education and making an impact on the lives of his students is unmatched. I went into his class with a closed mind and came out of his class with a refreshed perspective on society. His lectures keep your attention for all 50 minutes and his humor makes light of some dry topics.
Makes lecture very enjoyable
My favorite professor at WVU by far. However, he makes you work for your grade. He gives you all the information you need to know. He won't set you up for failure, but don't expect an easy ride. Great professor, great man!
TAKE HIM!!!! not a lot of writing just quizzes and exams
As long as you study the lectures you will do well no problem. At the beginning he says you need your book but I've barely touched it so that's a personal preference. Most of the quizzes and exam questions come straight from lecture. Not many exams. He gives so many extra credit opportunities. The only thing I don't like is his writing assignments.
Class lectures are amazing, and his class is pretty easy. Quizzes and exams can be tricky due to required knowledge of theories, but attendance and participation, along with extra-credit opportunities can cover those up greatly. You will look forward to his lectures every day. Group collage project at the end of the semester. Don't buy the book.
Great professor as long as you stay open minded through out the course, however sometimes he puts information on test that is not from the textbook or lecture. Even though that can be frustrating, he makes up for it in giving a ton of extra credit.
Best professor, and by far best lectures I have ever sat through. So entertaining, and can learn so much.
Very passionate about his stuff, and probably the most interesting lecturer you will ever take. Very liberal bias, although always backed up with sound logic. The pop quizzes are pretty awful, ten or so questions with specific theory names and memorized statistics suck, but there's some extra credit to make up for it.
One of my favorite professors here at WVU. He is very liberal and loves to go on about certain topics, but he relates the material to real-life experiences which is extremely helpful. A class that really makes you look at the world in a new way. If you study the material from lecture you'll do great. Much extra credit & attendance about 1/week avg
Daniel Wade Brewster is possibly one of the most amazing professors at WVU. One of the few professors that I would actually use my free time to rate and to tell others that you must have him as your professor once in your lifetime. His lectures are interesting, entertaining and life altering. I always leave his class feeling shook.
Highly recommended. Found myself looking forward to attending his classes because his lectures were meaningful, eye-opening, and enjoyable. You need to go into this class with an open mind.
Outstanding professor he may be outspoken and somewhat difficult but I would say every student should take his classes college is about opening your mind to new ideas and opinions to learn more about the world and yourself and he is the perfect professor for this absolutely take his class just make sure to attend and do what the syllabus says
Amazing professor. The class is a little difficult but you won't mind putting in the extra effort because Brewster is such a great prof. Very inspirational. Challenges your way of thinking, inspires you, and encourages you to stand up for what's right. Would definitely take again.
Professor Brewster was incredible. I personally didn't have any issues with his teaching style. It's lecture heavy, with the occasional film and writing paper mixed in. He's a hilarious guy. He was often criticized by kids who said he politicized the class too much, but again, I had no problem with it. Attendance is critical.
Take his course
Great teacher. This class isn't difficult. The tests are easy if you just read the chapter and take notes. Go to class, go to all of the extra credits and it will be hard not to get an A.
I love Brewster. Hes a great professor. His class isnt too difficult. Just show up and take notes and youll have an easy ride. He appreciates effort.
Good teacher. Just read the textbook and learn definitions to pass
I suggest that you pay attention, take notes, and at least read over the chapters in the text book. Gives extra credit, but outside of class (extra credit is given for going to events he's lecturing at). Also, only takes attendance on some days, but the days he does you get 10 points so going to class is the best option.
Professor Brewster is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He is well respected as he has one professor of the year here at WVU. His lectures are invigorating and thought provoking. There is a good amount of outside work to complete. His tests are fair, and he gives helpful study guides that make the test much easier. Take this class.
This was my favorite class last semester. Brewster often made his lectures funny, but thought-provoking. The book isn't essential, but it is helpful in some cases. I highly recommend attending his extra credit opportunities. Overall, a wonderful human being.
Great professor. Willing to work around the conflicts and wants you to be successful. Really interesting lectures.
He had extra credit where you would watch a video and sign your name at the end to show you were there. He gave our class 60 percent of the exams as our study guide, so that helps a lot. He is funny and very nice. Word of advise do all homework on time. Use textbook to help study.
easy class as long as you attend class, do the sub-par work on the assignments, study the study guide that he gives you, and go to all the extra credit opportunities offered. there are pop quizzes, but he usually hints at them in advance so pay attention. he is a very respectable teacher, and he wants his students to succeed.
Easy class. Go to class and go to his extra credit when offered. Easy to get an A if you study. Gives a study guide for each test with half the test questions. Pop quizzes are easier than scheduled quizzes, so look over your notes. He wants his students to do very well. Great professor!
People only write bad reviews because they disagree with what he says when he shows evidence. He is overall a funny and easy going guy. Takes notes from slides because his quizzes and tests are all straight from powerpoint. i would recommend this class if you aren't over sensitive, he will warn you first day. I would take his class again
Going to class can really help your grade, although it isn't required. Go to the Extra credit opportunities assigned and always keep up with the syllabus, I got an A in the class and its an easy class to get an A in, just don't underestimate it.
Great professor! I took this class during my last semester because I'd heard so many wonderful things about Brewster over the years. The material was pretty straightforward, and the lectures were always entertaining (but also conveyed the importance of the subject matter). Tests weren't too bad, and the papers were no big deal.
One of the best professors in WVU! If you read your notes and actually study and not just lean on the study guide youre not going to pass. Lots of extra credit and group work to make up your class grade. Love Brewster!
Brewster is a great professor. He is a liberal but I don't feel like he tries to push his ideals onto anyone else. He is extremely real and funny, and I think everyone could learn something from him. The class is easy as long as you go to class and study the slides. I personally never used the book, but if reading helps you, then go for it.
BREWSTER IS ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS AT WVU. DON'T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE SAYING NOT TO TAKE HIM. IF YOU DO YOUR WORK AND GO TO CLASS YOU WILL BE FINE. HE IS PHENOMINAL! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Great professor! Hilarious and very straight forward. He will tell you how it is. Make sure you go to class and do all the assignments. Read the notes and study the study guides. Beware of pop quizzes! The pop quizzes arent that hard and dont hurt your grade that much.
Professor Brewster is a great educator and I've learned so much in his class. As long as you keep up with the work you should make an A in the class. He really makes you think about social issues and I would recommend him to other students. He's super intimidating at first, but overall a great person.
Brewster is awesome, as he really helps your perception of the world around you. I will say that he can be perceived as a bit jarring if you are of the conservative persuasion, but if you go into his class with an open mind you will thoroughly appreciate what he has to say
One of the easiest classes I have taken. He allows you to skip class 5 times until you lose points. The pop quizzes, even though its not worth much, can help your outcome on whether you have an A or B. His lectures are really good! He relates the topics on things currently going on in the world today and our daily lives.
I took this class for the prerequisite. I had heard mixed opinions about Dr. Brewster, but didn't really care which professor I got. I was so happy that I ended up taking this class with him. He is super funny and energetic. He tries to make the lectures as relatable as possible and is very open with his opinions, but doesn't try to force them.
Professor Brewster has had every negative review on rate my professor removed anything you see on here is false.
Don't get me wrong, Brewster is a great professor and his lectures are quite thought provoking. However, he can rude and unapologetic towards his class when asking questions on new topics and gets annoyed when students are unsure of how to answer. Exams can be tough, take notes. Go to class, Lectures are great and relevant to life
You may or may not like Brewster at first. He can be harsh and frank with students (Which can be off-putting) or extremely helpful when asking questions, but every lecture makes you think about the state of life around you! Exams can be tough, and study guides are scarce, but go to class and you should do fine. Final was a quiz, 25 questions, 25min
I loved Professor Brewster. He was always able to relate real-world issues to the lecture and materials we were going over in class. He is not afraid to talk about the topics and issues that make some feel uneasy. His lectures were always interesting and he easily keeps your attention. Activities and tests were straight forward; just do the work.
Brewster is one of the best professors at WVU. He keeps his lectures interesting by relating topics in class to real world issues that we can better understand. Tests and quizzes can be difficult. His homework is easy points and if you don't do it your hurting yourself. Attendance for class isn't always mandatory you only need to show up to 10 clas
Took Brewster my freshman year in person, a pretty interesting guy and great lectures. Participate in class discussions, for doing that he bumped my 89.9 up to an A-, though he never said this was why I definitely believe he enjoyed a discussion rather than lecturing to students. Take a class of his if you ever get the chance.
Do not take him for anything over SOCA 101. The amount of work he assigns is actually insane, he doesn't care about students wellbeing whatsoever, and repeatedly insulted the class on multiple occasions. Not to mention he very clearly said that he didn't want to teach our class. Prepare to do nothing with your life other than homework for his class
In my opinion he is blunt and tells it like it is and I personally like that. His delivery when being blunt can actually be funny and makes students laugh. Show up to class its not hard if you pay attention and show up. Learned a lot of history in his class that I did not know before. Be open minded and listen to others opinions. HW is light.
Brewster is absolutely my favorite professor. If you do not like a professor who is extremely funny and blunt his class is not for you. Study for exams, READ the chapters before class lectures even if it means to wake up at 7am to read them, SHOW UP easy A just to show up so why not just go. Don't be on your phone in class its disrespectful
If you ever get the opportunity to take any of his courses, do yourself a favor and sign up. Hes one of most engaging professors at wvu, and while attendance isnt mandatory, youll find yourself going to nearly every lecture because hes that entertaining and stimulating.
Brewster is an amazing professor. Not only does he engage us as a class to understand the knowledge, but makes the classes funny and connects it to real life. Highly recommend
Brewster is a great professor and I learned a lot in his class. If you're looking for an easy sociology class, though, this is not the one. You definitely have to read the textbook and pay attention in lectures because that's what the quizzes and tests are based on. Nothing is sugarcoated and he's pretty real.
While it may be tempting to skip bc he posts the slideshows on ecampus, I still recommend going to class. The only assignments you do outside of class are six activities, which can take some time to complete but they're not hard. As for the honors section, it requires two additional essays, and those aren't too bad. Overall, great class.
the class itself is pretty difficult, but it's very good material and he's an amazing professor. he's really easy to talk to and gives really good feedback if you need help with something
cares for all his students, sets big expectations, and uses real life examples to better understand the curriculum
Not many Professors think about mental health and the impact college has on students. This man makes you want to learn!
10/10 should take his class. if you do the readings and study(gives you study guide with 25/50 of actual test questions) there is no reason why you shouldn't pass this class with flying colors. his lectures fly by because how good of a freaking professor he is, feels like you are just having a conversation with him. best class I've taken here.
If you have the opportunity to take one of professor Brewsters classes, do yourself a favor and take it. He is by far the best professor Ive ever had. If you show up, youll learn something new every lecture. I cant stress enough how amazing his lectures are either, you wont want to miss a single one.
Lectures are thought-provoking and hilarious at times. Easy work as long as you put in the effort. Makes the content very interesting and is an amazing speaker. Take him even if SOC101 isn't required for your major, I highly recommend him.
Professor Brewster is a great teacher. He gave really inspiring lectures and knew what he was talking about. However, is pretty rude and almost not approachable (for me anyway). He is very honest, which is appreciated, especially when it comes to grading but it comes off as just having an attitude most of the time.
Daniel Brewsters class is so interesting and he keeps the class engaged. He is an amazing lecturer and always had the class laughing. He is able to relate a lot of the information to stuff going on around us today. If you show up and do good on the exams and quizzes there's no way you shouldn't be able to pass his course.
Professor Brewster makes his class fairly easy. He provides lecture slides and study guides (which have half of the exam questions on it.) That being said, he was always rude & condescending when I emailed him about anything. Anyone who is conservative or religious should be prepared, not scared, to have a professor with strongly opposing beliefs.
Professor Brewster is awesome! Just go to class. Lots of questions on the exams are said in class. Plus, he often gives a study guide with half the test questions. There's extra credit opportunities throughout the semester as well
Having professor Brewster really made my semester better. Even though it was a class, I went out of enjoyment because I loved his lectures. The quizzes and exams required reading the chapters and definitely paying attention to in class examples. This class was more fun to me than work by any means
Brewster was a great professor, was really helpful whenever I was confused about assignments!
Amazing lecturer who is clearly passionate and well versed in sociology. Assignments are thought provoking. If you have the chance to take Dr. Brewster, do it. If you don't, pull some strings so you are able to take him.
Incredibly funny and I am excited to have class every day. Assignments are not hard or time consuming, just do the work and you will be fine. Quizzes and exams are fairly difficult, definitely require a lot of studying before hand and the book is "mandatory" but I have not read it and have an A in the class.
Professor Brewster made SOC my favorite class of the semester. I looked forward to going to lectures being that he made them funny and enjoyable. He uses several examples which make the material easy to follow along with. He is open to talk about his beliefs which I respect. As long as you know the material, the work is not that difficult.
I LOVE BREWSTER and I can't stress it enough. He made class so interesting that I wanted to major in Sociology but I snapped back into the reality that sociology is just not for me. He's BIG on turning things in on time but that was my only flaw because I procrastinate. He says you need the book to read before each chapter but I didn't and Im fine.
This is not like his Sociology 101 class. The assignments are light but graded heavily. Absolutely nobody got an A on our mid-term. Our lectures would be spent talking about current events while our exams would be about specific court cases. I'm struggling and I got my full attendance points and directly studied out of the textbook.
If you like lecture based classes, you'll enjoy
I LOVED this class he is absolutely hilarious and very educated. He is apart of the LGBTQ community, liberal, and he is VERY vocal about that. If that's something that bothers u do not take this course, but if ur open minded his insight about society from his pov is very interesting. He comes off as "cold" but is nicer as u get to know him
Brewster is one of the best professors here at WVU. If you have the opportunity to take their class, do yourself a favor and sign up. Their 207 class was incredibly thought provoking and informative; they gave 110% every lecture and you can clearly tell that while sitting in class.
Great professor, pretty much have to attend class, do not need the book even though he says you do, very funny, incredibly knowledgeable, quizzes are pretty hard, exams are not that bad
Brewster was definitely my favorite professor this semester. Attendance is a big part of your grade, and attending class will help you in the long run. They tend to put questions that are based on examples given in lectures on the quizzes and exams. Textbook is required, but I only read the first chapter and finished the class with an A.
He is a very real professor. He will speak his mind whenever he has the chance and i think that why I like him. all his quizzes are based off his lecture slides.
Brewster is by far the professor I've had at WVU and honestly one of the best teachers I've had in general. He makes it so easy to get indulged in the lecture and really makes it point you know what is going on. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. If you have a chance to take a course with him I highly recommend it!!
I have intentionally taken multiple of his classes because he is a great professor. He tells stories and shows videos and keeps you actually entertained while lecturing, you wont want to go on your phone. If you do, he will take offense. You have to attend 15 of his classes where he passes around an attendance sheet, then you can skip the rest.
Professor Brewster is an amazing lecturer, Attendance is almost always mandatory due to his attendance policy and extra credit opportunities at random during class. When doing his assignments make sure to actually watch the videos or read the article he gives you, because he is tough on grading.
Brewster is a very headstrong guy and that can be offputting for some but I enjoyed his class. Very blunt and mean at times. Definitely cares about what he teaches and hes very approachable. If you have hard set views that may conflict with his or the class you wont enjoy it.
Study the slides and any stats he mentions in class. I never read the chapter readings and got an A. He gave out extra credit on random days so make sure to attend class as much as possible. He is a tough grader, so make sure to put a lot of effort into the activities. Only assignments outside class were almost weekly activities and one essay.
Professor Brewster gives excellent lectures. His SOC 101 class is not incredibly difficult, but definitely do not take it as a filler class. He says you should read the textbook before attending his lectures, but I found out pretty quickly that this was unnecessary. He requires you to attend a certain number of classes.
one of my favorite professors at WVU now. He cares so much about what he teaches and its evident in lectures. You have to show up to class to get attendance points, make sure you actually do the activities assigned, you won't scrape by from copying off someone. One key thing; he is very left-sided. If that isn't you, you won't enjoy his class
I have Brewster right now and he's really cool. He may come off as mean but he's really nice and I really enjoy how he teaches class. He's a hard grader on assignments. Quizzes are hard if you really don't study the lectures. He really cares about his students and what he teaches and it shows.
You can probably get away without reading the textbook although reading it before lectures is incredibly helpful, especially when preparing for tests. By far the most engaging professor I've ever had. He truly does make you think, don't take his class if you're not prepared to have your ideas challenged.
If you have the chance to take a class taught by Brewster, 100% do it!!!! He is so authentic and great at what he does. He challenges ideas and asks the hard questions. He is passionate about his lectures and provides guidance to all his students. Best professor I have had at WVU and hope to take another course of his.
His exams are impossible. Even though he gives you a portion of the exam for the study guide, he doesn't EVER tell you if the answers are correct. There is a strategy to his class but I can't figure it out. He pushes a lot of his views in his lectures. You need to go to class to get a good grade. Don't expect to ever do well on the exams.
The study guides are very difficult to follow. The teacher also gives assignments that require you to watch movies that are very explicit and unwatchable at times. The most violent movie I have ever seen was in his class, which is not appropriate to show your students on a university campus. Choose this professor with caution!
BEST PROFESSOR AT WVU!! On my deathbed I will support Brewster. Some hate Brewster because they are closed minded and never exposed to the topics he teaches. He does not push any type of "agenda" or whatever they conspirize abt him. A genuinely caring person and a great professor. Exams are a little difficult so you have to put the work in for an A
I heard a lot of mixed review about Brewster, but I would not go out of my way to take his class again. Tests are extremely difficult, like study for a week and still fail difficult. Exams are extremely analytical and require lots of specific memorization. Also one group project for the semester. Liked the class it is just very challenging.
If you attend class, take notes on the power points, and actually apply yourself you will do well. If you have questions he has office hours where he is more than willing to help you. Exams are semi difficult, but it is all from the lectures. He has a textbook, but I didn't read at all and still got an A. Just put the work in and you'll do fine.
If Brewster has 0 fans then I am dead. His lectures were amazing and he keeps students thoroughly engaged with his humor throughout the course. I thought the quizzes were tougher than exams, and there was a group project which can just be challenging in general, but overall if you put in effort you can end up with a good grade.
he for sure is not for everyone. he is very passionate which i appreciate in a prof, understand before taking his class that it is SOCIOLOGY it may make you uncomfortable at times but that is not on brewster, he makes it very clear during syllabus week that topics we get tested on may be sensitive so if you care about that you should just drop.
Brewster is an amazing professor, or should I say, "dwb."? He can be a tough grader but as long as you do as you're told and go into detail on your assignments you are set. Attendance is not "mandatory," but he takes it sporadically, which counts as a grade at the end. Up to 100 points! If I attended like I should have I would've passed with an A.
Brewster is a blunt but engaging professor. His lectures are insightful, and attending class is crucial. While the textbook is required, I found unstuckstudy AI and the lecture slides to be more helpful for quiz and exam prep.
As long as you attend class, and use the study guides he gives to you prior to exams (it is literally exact questions pulled from the test), you will get a minimum of a B in this class. Funny, clearly intelligent professor, would take him again if given the chance.
Just show up to his class and take notes on the slides and you'll pass. His lectures are actually really intriguing. Utilize his office hours!! The only thing I don't like about his teaching is that for exams he'll pass out study guides but won't post the answers, so I recommend searching for a quizlet before an exam.
a very good professor who really cares about his students. has high expectations but mainly just be a good student who shows up and you'll do well.
I heard a lot of things about Mr. Brewster "dwb" iykyk, and he's a real down to earth guy who has developed a mix of different opinions about himself from other people. Do the work, genuinely study quizlets and study guides for test and quizzes, and you'll be fine. He lets you miss I think 5 classes but just go to class, they're engaging lectures.
1) DONT use chat gpt with him seriously he will know and he will call you out 2) DONT sign other people (friends) into class if they aren't there because sometimes he'll randomly check and you'll get in trouble 3) he's a good guy he's funny and kept his lectures interesting just respect him and he will respect you that's really all there is to it
Brewster was amazing and he keeps his lectures interesting and relevant! As long as you know how to study and show up to class you will do fine.
I absolutely loved this class! Brewster is hilarious and his class was always entertaining. He does say some out of pocket things that you might not expect from a professor, but it just adds to the charm. Attendance is very important because each day is 10 points. He explains everything well and gives good instructions on assignments. 10/10
Very nice and funny guy. Don't use AI, he WILL know and once called the whole class out for it. Realistically, you won't even need AI for his work. Just write good and clear and stick to whatever questions you need to answer and more than likely you'll get a 10/10. Engages well with his students and you can walk into his office and, ask for help.
Great professor and was there for me during a crisis! He is very passionate about his work and really expands and explains what he is talking about. Tests can be difficult if you don't understand the material.
I enjoyed his lectures, although he is very condescending. I had to go to his office hours twice and I was scared to go. I emailed him multiple times during the semester, about questions, and if he made a mistake he would deny it, and blame it on you. He can never be wrong, and has a very big ego. I also didn't like how he did his exams.
Daniel Brewster is the worst professor I've had so far. He's a pretty chill guy but his lectures and lectures slides are a mess. I found it extremely difficult to follow his verbal lecture and his PowerPoint were very jumbled together without any real detail. Skip him if you learn better with explanation and neatness.
Definitely the best professor I have had at WVU. He was always available to students. His lectures keep your attention with a great mix of information and humor. You can tell me loves what he does and that is why he gets annoyed when people fail themselves. Go to class, do the work, and it is pretty easy to get an "A".
Mr. Brewster is very passionate about his classes. With that being said, sometimes his ego can get in the way of helping students. Admitting that he made a mistake will never happen - even when affecting your grade. He puts minimal effort in formatting quizzes and exams, but makes sure that they are hard for you. He is very rude and unwelcoming.
Brewster is one of the best professors at the university. His lectures are extremely engaging, and I am the type of person to never really listen in class. He is very funny and jokes around a lot. I've take 3 different classes with him and all of them were great.
Brewster is lowkey amazing. Everything that will be on the tests are in his lecture slide shows, and he sends those out. If you take his class, be prepared for him just to talk the whole time but pay attention because he goes over everything. If you are not an attendance person, you will struggle in his class, but he is a good teacher regardless.
Brewster never fails to make class entertaining and engaging. I learned a lot and genuinely looked forward to his class.
Brewster is an amazing professor. I look forward to his lectures because they keep you engaged, and he is so funny. You need to attend class for attendance points and write down what he says because the examples he gives in class will be on the exams. Quizzes are more definition-based, while exams require you to apply the information more.
Brewster is a great professor. His lectures are super engaging and he is very funny. He answers emails fast and is always available to meet outside of class. The class is test heavy but as long as you study and show up to class it is very easy to get an A or a B.
The professor makes class enjoyable and teaches honestly and clearly. Lectures align directly with exams, so reading helps but isn't required—focus on definitions, examples, and what he says in class. Extra credit appears later in the semester. Don't take his comments personally; they're part of the course.
He is an entertaining professor I always looked forward to his lectures however the exams are difficult and it's hard to study with the slides he gives out since they're very bland. be sure to take lots of notes during his lectures. other than that I loved his class you just need to put in effort since it is a harder than ur usual 101 classes
