Britt is pretty cool, has some cool stuff to say. Gives 10% of your grade to easy quizes, the rest are tests. Be carefull, dont miss class. 6 points extra credit is also available.
It is pretty boring at 7:30 am, if you really like AST its a good class, if your just in it to avoid Chemistry, think again. It is no easy anything! He does the whole class by slide show and will help you with anything you need, a very informed professor.
AWESOME!
VERY nice guy! Love what he teaches! Notes are on powerpoint so its easy to learn the material. You don't even have to buy the book for the class.
Very nice guy. I hate science but he kept me interested throughout the semester
One of the worst professors I've had. He's insanely boring, and he made me hate a subject that I actually liked. The attendance in his class was always about 25% because no one could stand him...still got an A cause he's easy though.
He was a wonderful teacher!!! I never thought I would be interested in astronomy, but I now am. He gives extra credit and online quizzes that are pretty easy. Tests are difficult . . .but he gives you slides for everything- his review and the class lec
I never really realized that Astronomy could be this fun! Professor Britt rocks. He speaks slowly enough to be understood, he loves being interrupted for questions, and he knows so much! 10/10 in my book! Keep up the good work, man!
Britt is so boring, it's incredible! His tests questions come exactly from the on-line quizes. Going to class is pointless. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Boring, boring, boring!!!!
Very hard. RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN. His "reveiws" for exams are a joke. He doesn't anwser the questions on the reveiws. SUPER HARD. He's even mean. He's smart yes, a good professor, no. People laughed about how impossible this class was. Nailing Jello to a tree would be easier than this class. DON'T TAKE BRITT IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA.
this class is so bad
VERY HARD CLASS...his reviews DO NOT help u on the test at all...i agree with the nailing jello to a tree analogy...that would be easier than passing this class...stay away
This clas is not that bad! There are online quizes that you can take until you get 100%! Those are 20% of the garde and then there's 3 test that can straight from the quizes! Tests are 80% of your grade. He posts his notes online in case you miss class. People that say this class is hard are just lazy! THIS IS COLLEGE! NOT recommended for freshmen!
40 questions on eacquiz, the "notes" he post he makes it tricky if you dont go to class. They will be a picture of the moon, or a star, no facts to write down. I'm not oppossed to working hard, but memorizing over 200 quiz questions and the 60 review questions for a 40 question test a little much. This class sucks. Punch me in the face
i wish i had taken organic chemistry, it would have been easier than this class
OMG I HATE THIS CLASS
Very easy class, other reviewers are probably mad because they skipped too many classes. Britt is a super genius and makes the material very understandable. I briefly looked over the book and it was much more confusing than his lectures. I didnt need any extra credit and got an A. We had 2 other astronomy subs and they totally sucked.
Ditto what the last person said. This is a very easy class if you go to the lectures as Dr. Britt makes everything simple and humorous. He gives an awesome review which makes tests somewhat easy. You'll enjoy all of his crazy stories too, like the time when he worked on pathfinder's special camera that could look though people's clothes.
teacher is boring, but he's very nice and helpful. you need to study step by step, read a book and do quizzes by yourself to learn the material. I got an A because I studied. if you slacker, you'll fail. well that's pretty much what happens in most of the classes. I loved astronomy, it's fascinating how our universe is constructed...
I have to agree with what the others said below me as well. The tests were relatively easy as well, just study the quizzes like I did and I got an A on them. The reviews aren't that bad either, definitly the most important time to go to class
To get an A in this class-memorize every online quiz, tests are exactly the same, the reviews are nothing alike,Gives out A- instead of fulls A's. I only went to class on test days.Failed the first test cause Britt never said to study online quizzes, got A's on the rest.Takes forever to give back results.Dont go to class+Study Quizzes=A in Astronomy
WORST TEACHER EVER, DONT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO SAID HE IS GOOD, THEY WERE ACTUALLY DUMB ENOUGH TO ATTEND HIS CLASS. MEMORIZE ONLINE QUIZZES BECAUSE TESTS ARE EXACTLY ALIKE.DONT EVEN BOTHER GOING TO HIS TEST REVIEWS, THEY DONT HELP. TAKES A YEAR TO GET BACK TESTS RESULTS, UD THINK HE IS GRADING EVERY SCANTRON BY HAND.
I got an A and not an A- so I don't know what they were talking about. Definitly with the quizzes, study them. he is a very intelligent and brilliant man.
If you study you'll do well. This is how to get an A in his class: download the lectures and make notes out of them (his lectures are so boring), study the quizzes for the tests, and go to the review sessions and study those. Follow those steps and you get an A.
Don't go to class, waste of time! Keep up with the quizzes, and study those! Do the extra credit and your guarnteed an A!
so hard, impossible. hated this class
it'ed be easier to learn russian
This is a good person who teaches very interesting information. Personally, I find the subject matter and class very boring. But that does not mean you can't do well. Mr. Britt does care & if you work, you will do just fine.
hated this class, take chemistry...or underwater basket weaving...anything but Britt's astronomy class.
not that hard of a class if you go to the lectures and take notes. gives you test questions during lectures and the rewiew sessions are very helpful.
Extremely boring. Made me loose all interest in our solar system. Don't really have to go to class. Study hard for the tests and do the extra credit assignment (its not hard)and you should get an A or B.
Boringggggggggg! Gives answers of exam questions in class. You will not learn anything. Do not take.
The guy is crazy funny. I've never laughed so much in a class in my life. He made the subject easy to understand. He teaches you something, then he explains it using an axample anyone can relate to. The man has been everywhere and has plenty of crazy stories. Highly recomend it.
Britt is by far the WORST PROFESSOR in UCF. I thought AST would be an easy credit, but i was so wrong. The subject is so boring/hard and Britt makes it even more boring/hard. I'm an A student and I had to work extremely hard to earn a C! His tests are way too hard! & you'll have like a million online quizzes that barely do anything for your grade!
WORST TEACHER EVER!! DO NOT TAKE.IS NOT HELPFUL AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS ANY OF THE EXAMS. A STUDENT UNTIL I TOOK THIS CLASS. EVEN STUDYING FOR HOURS WONT GIVE YOU EVEN A B ON ANY OF THE TESTS. I WARN YOU DO NOT TAKE NO MATTER WHAT!!!
Boring class. Take if you cannot sleep at home but you want an easy grade.
This class is beyond horrible. I am an A student and I studied for hours upon hours for each exam and I pulled a B- in the class. He doesn't care about the students, he is condescending and has the personality of wet toast. Don't buy the book, you'll never use it. Memorize every quiz question 250+ for each exam and maybe you'll pull a B-. RUNNN!!
Earned an A, if you read the book and understand the concepts you dont really have to go to class or memorize the quiz questions. The first test is the most difficult, the second is extremely easy the third is moderate, the final is easy.
Great teacher! I got a 99 in the class and didn't even buy the book. All you have to do is the tutorials on masteringastronomy.com and you'll do great. I loved this class!
Let me start off by saying this class should be EASY if you try. If you don't try at all, don't rate him as hard; you are just stupid. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Just buy the Mastering Astronomy Online subscription. It is a crime that he even tells you to buy the book. MEMORIZE the Online quizzes and PPT slides and you will get a high A.
This was my least favorite class at ucf so far. You are allowed to sleep or whatever if you sit in the first 5 rows. Boring lectures, but he thinks he is funny. You don't have to go to class, only on test days. Easy extra credit. I learn everything in this class from the book, so I'd recommend getting the book.
WORST CLASS EVER! teacher is boring, do not take this class unless you love astronomy! concepts are hard to understand, homework is easy but thats about it...worst class I have taken so far. I had a 4.0 GPA until I took this class!
I am a Political Science Major... I get straight A's and I got a B in this class!!!! Even after MEMORIZING the quizes, the slides, and my own notes, I still couldn't manage to get an A b/c his test questions do NOT reflect his reviews or the material! Don't take him unless you have to!!!!
Study the slides online
Worst professor I've had. Impossible tests. Unclear teaching and reviews. Very unhelpful professor. Homework is tedious and long. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! I wish I hadn't, it's the only non-A I've received in college!
Hard class. Attendance is not mandatory, but tests are a lot easier if you go to class. Test questions are from the book (that has impossibly long chapters), powerpoint slides, online quizzes and lecture. Too much to study, gives decent reviews before the tests but they still don't cover a lot of the questions. My only B so far
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK FOR THIS CLASS! I guarantee you will NEVER open it. Britt makes lectures interesting (he's funny, easy to understand), but his exams get more difficult as you progress. DONT FORGET his online exams or you will get screwed come grading time. Overall, good professor, but again DONT BUY THE BOOK!!!
Great deal of study required. Read the chapters, DO THE ONLINE QUIZZES, study the slides, and pay very close attention to the reviews. You you study a lot you will do fine, but Dr. Britt isn't the most helpeful. Also, he has a quirky sense of humor that 99% of you will find exceptionally dry - I found him hilarious. Geek humor, no doubt.
Nice guy, but his study guides do not go along with the test what so ever. Don't let em' fool ya. The only way you can get an A is if you know the text book as if you wrote it!
I only took Dr. Britt because his reviews were slightly better than Michelle Montgomery's. I should have just taken her because I started attending her class for clarity of Britt's notes. The first test's avg was a mid C. He says an equal amt of questions come from lectures, notes, book & quizzes but honestly I don't know where he pulls questions.
i took britt because i heard that he gives fairly good reviews that really help you do well on the tests, problem is, he doesn't give reviews anymore. i found this class extremely boring, the averages on both tests so far were both 68's. he knows what he is talking about, he is just awful at giving his students the info needed.
This class is not impossible to pass but does require a lot of studying. All of his notes are online so you dont have to go to class. Dont buy the book just buy the online access code for $20. Grade consists of 3 exams & an optional final exam to replace your lowest test grade. There are online quizzes every week but your guaranteed 100 every time.
TERRIBLE CLASS. TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. He definitely knows what he's talking about, he just doesn't know how to pass his knowledge onto his students. I dreaded every single class. The material is somewhat interesting and he drains any interest you may have had on the subject. IMPOSSIBLE to do well on the tests unless you make this class your life.
His test before the final is impossible...It covers 8 chapters. Nice guy, but he expects you to learn an impossible amount of material!
Boring class. Do not take.
nice guy, bad teacher. he is so smart when it comes to astronomy but he just doesnt know how to teach it well enough. tests are VERY hard, and the 3rd one covers SO MUCH information its overwhelming. it helped me to look at the online tutorials on mastering astronomy & reading the impossibly long chapters. the study guides are pretty much pointless
I had Britt for astronomy during spring of 2008. The quizzes are hard and about 60 questions each but you get 100% for trying. The test are REALLY difficult. Some of the questions are from the book, others from the quizzes and some from his lectures. Its a LOT of information and he does not specify what needs to be studied.
Terrible and confusing class. I used to like astronomy. After the class I am not sure anymore. Avoid this class.
His lectures are boring, the quizzes are annoying and the tests are hard. Doing the quizzes does help your grade quite a bit and you can get extra credit. The tests were insane, you had to know the notes and the book. But if you do the work you will pass.
Hard class for GenEd. I had to literally study my butt off to get a B. Lectures are boring, I fell asleep everytime I went. Online work takes forever to do, but you get 100% for trying. 3 tests with optional final. First test is very hard, second is easy, third and forth are medium. Gives out 2% extra credit. Notes are available online.
This class is so boring and so hard to follow because the professor can't teach the material in a way thats interesting or understandable. If you can, do whatever is necessary to avoid this professor. He goes off on so many tangents that you will never need to know and ends up 3 weeks behind on his syllabus. Horrible professor.
Annoying class. He has no clue how bad he is at teaching this class, he thinks really highly of himself. He addresses many things that have nothing to do with astronomy and therefore his class notes and the book often have very little to do with each other which means more to study. Definitely get another teacher if you can.
Hard professor to learn from. Vague about what he wants you to learn, random tangents, does not give a solid list of expectations for exams. AVOID. Memorize all quiz questions for exams and you might earn a B.
DONT TAKE!!!!!
BAD CLASS!!! His tests are VERY hard, in fact they're terrible. I went to class every day minus the occasional skip here and there (like 4 days total) and got a D+. His "extra credit" didn't help me obtain a higher grade like he said. TERRIBLE TEACHER AVOID!!!
Class isn't as easy as i originally thought. But tests get gradually a little easier. Just fill out the study guides he gives you before the exams and you might get a B. A couple questions are also from mastering astronomy.
I went into this class thinking it would be an easy A. Boy, was I wrong!! Britt can rarely answer his own questions. He knows very little about astronomy and is never very helpful. He even goes as far as insulting a student's intelligence when they don't know an answer. AVOID if you can. Take Cooney instead!!!
This is the worst profesor I have had at UCF. Don't even bother signing up for this class. Even if you dedicate all your time and effort to it you will be lucky to get a C. Take someone else.
He has many many many powerpoint slides, his review does not help at all before tests, and he rambles. Those are the only negatives for the class. I am awful at science, and I managed to get a B+. Even though the class is boring, he is actually really funny, in a corny way. Study the notes and you will pass the class with a B. I recommend him!
Look forward to his class :) I have him in the honors college and he's really great about keeping everyone involved - loves questions/ class participation. Astronomy is hard but if you truly want an A he is not an obstacle to letting you achieve it, quite the opposite. He really wants everyone to get an A - he just doesn't hand them out for free.
The smartest professor I've had. You will learn a lot. gives quizes. Test are not easy but not hard. gives extra credit for participation, that put me from a B to A Solid A. offers an extra credit paper worth +4% of final grade. He truely wants everyone to participate, learn, and get an A. Ties the material to real life problems.
Dr. Britt is truly an awesome person and a very knowledgable. However, I signed up for Physical Science (the last class I needed for my AA) and he thought that was too easy and changed the course to Physics of Climate and Weather. There are only 3 tests and he does go over a test review however there will be surprises on the test.
This class was absolutely horrible and a complete waste of my time. He didn't show up to one third of the classes, mainly the whole last few weeks of class, including the final and had a TA do all his work. Gave me a .54 on the extra credit research paper that I spent 8 hours on and doesn't even bother to answer your emails or reach out to you.
Only grades are pop quizzes and tests!! The pop quizzes are really hard, but the questions from them will probably show up on the tests so pay attention when he gives the answers. The material was hard and he is terrible at explaining. He is actually very knowledgable, just not a good teacher. I wouldn't recommend if you want an easy A
His lectures were hilarious. I throughly enjoyed this class. I came in one day when I was really sick because I enjoyed his lectures so much. His tests weren't too difficult if you did the readings. He did miss a few classes because of conferences he had to attend, which was unfortunate. Also, grades aren't on webcourses which makes it hard.
I had Britt for Honors Astronomy, and he was phenomenal. Taught the material well and is very knowledgeable on the subject. You are required to read and are quizzed randomly, but Britt grades very generously, giving credit for close or even answers that make him laugh. I learned a lot and had fun doing so!
This class was one of my favorites. At first, the professor seems very intimidating because he'll ask people questions individually for participation credit but you'll soon realize that as long as you make some sort of an attempt he'll give you credit. The online quizzes are easy and exams aren't too bad considering he gives you a study guide.
Dr. Britt was kind of a strange professor. Interesting lectures, crazy homework, but easy exams. He clearly thinks very highly of himself, which was funny and then sometimes not so funny. Seems to have some sort of complex about hating all religions. He brought it up at irrelevant moments, seemed kind of an odd choice in a class about geophysics.
I never listened to the lectures, and never read the textbook, and I still got a B. If you dont have a lot of time to invest in the course, you can pretty much Google everything and still pass. Youre graded on weekly quizzes and 3 tests including the final. Theyre all fairly easy, and Dr. Britt is quick at responding to emails.
Took online, no zoom. If you want to do well you def need to listen to all lectures and do the weekly reading. As an intro course it is just challenging enough where you actually learn, but still easy for non science majors to understand. Only grades are tests and exams so make sure you do well on those. Wish I could have taken in person!
Dr. Britt knows his stuff but he's not always the best at conveying that knowledge to his students. The lectures can be boring because of his monotonous reading, and you still have to read the textbook . I was worried about this class because I'm awful at science, but I still managed to get an A. If you have good work ethic, you should be fine.
This class made me consider minoring in Astronomy. You gotta pay attention to the lectures and it helps to write down the information. The tests cover exactly what he says in the lectures, if you pay attention it's an easy A. Great professor, he makes everything seem easier to understand!
Easy class, just extremely boring. If you are not into science it will be hard to listen to these lectures. I took for a Required credit and passed but some questions on the tests are easily missed as he uses a lot from the lectures. Hes extremely kind and will work with you if you communicate ahead.
I absolutely love Dr. Britt. He is so funny and kind. I loved this class, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. I recommend sitting in the first two rows for extra credit. His lectures have a lot of info but are informative and entertaining. Take notes on his words only, he posts all the ppts so you can go back later. Quizzes each week on notes
Dr. Britt is so kind! His class is hefty on lectures, and I recommend attending as many as possible. As long as you take good notes and study his review questions, it's easy to do well in his class. I highly recommend taking advantage of the extra credit opportunities. There are 3 exams worth 90% of the grade, with a quiz every week worth 10%.
Great class, was definitely challenging and a heavy majority of your grade comes from the exams. I didn't use the textbook except to answer the study guide but feel like it would've helped me in retrospect. Majority of the content comes from the lectures and he gives extra credit for engaging and asking questions.
I took Dr. Britt for astronomy as well as meteorology. I adore this man. He is so sweet and funny. His ppts are very thorough. SO much extra credit. He is super understanding and takes the time to make good test reviews. Not an easy A, but def possible with focus and hard work! Take notes on what he says in class bc he gives a lot of great info.
Amazing professor! Lectures can be very interesting if you pay attention, quizzes are fairly simple, most of your grade comes from 3 in person exams, but if you study you'll do great. Amazing professor.
I loved astronomy with Dr. Britt! His humor and passion for the subject make the lectures easier to sit through for a subject that can become complicated. He also gives extra credit to those who ask questions! I didn't get to attend nearly as many lectures as I should've, so my grade is a reflection of me rather than him. Fantastic professor!
Powerpoints were engaging and straightforward, and I bought the textbook but only used for the first half of the semester. Graded through 3 in-person exams that are 50 questions, with an open-note 10 question quiz due every Friday. Offers extra credit for every question asked, even stupid ones :) Would definitely take another class with Dr. Britt.
If you come to class you will do fine, I didn't use the textbook at all. I had to study for the exams, but the information was a lot less difficult than I thought it would be and he gave good study guides. You can ask questions for extra credit!
Our grade came from three 50 question multiple choice exams, and he gave extra credit if you asked a question in class. All you have to do is go to class and you'll be fine, the only work I did outside of class were the little quizzes each week and a bit of studying before each exam. Never used the textbook except to study. Highly recommend
Lots of lecture material and moves very quickly through slides. Tests and quizzes are straightforward.
Three 50 question exams and weekly quizzes. Show up to class and study a bit before the exams and you'll be fine. Lectures were engaging and fun, he gives extra credit for every question asked. Never used the textbook and just studied. He is out of class quite frequently so expect a lot of guest lectures. Overall great teacher and would take again.
Professor Britt was an amazing professor for a relatively easy science GED course. He has lots of relevant experience and a good sense of humor that make the lectures entertaining, even if the coursework could be easily completed without attending. Only grades are weekly quizzes and 3 tests, so don't forget about their due dates.
Dr. Britt is incredible. Earn extra credit from basically asking questions. 10% of the grade is participation, and if you ask questions once a lecture you'll get lots of extra credit from it. He's very funny, lectures are very important to understanding the material, but he's entertaining enough it's not hard to pay attention.
I learned so much. He has great lectures and stories. Take him!
Professor Britt makes this GED course engaging with his humor and real-world experience. Attendance matters, but the work is manageable - just don't forget the weekly quizzes. Unstuck AI helped me prep efficiently for the 3 exams.
Hes very nice and considerate, if you miss an exam he will always accommodate for you. He makes the classes very entertaining and gives participation points for asking basically anything
