Awful textbook for 313. He writes HARD tests too.

DO NOT TAKE ANT COURSES FROM HIM! His tests are not relevant to his lectures!
brilliant man and engaging lecturer; unforgiving tests, however.
Very entertaining lecturer, explains things thoroughly but impossible tests
No Comments
History of Psyc may very well be the most boring class in the history of psyc.
Lectures may be clear, but that tests are horrible!
good lecturer. was a stud in his younger years. brutal exams
No Comments
UGHHHH!!!
Very engaging and funny...hv to actually use your brains but fun though
Entertaining lectures, brutal course material and even worse exams!
Had him for 210, he was na****ic and rude and I didn't understand him
Favourite prof yet! Made a boring topic super interesting. And very sexy!!
accent is sexy
Tests are tough, but only b/c most people in 2nd year aren't used to thinking!
Exams are impossible and yes I did try hard. Would not recommend him. 210 sucks!
YAH! could the exams BE any more confusing? brain or no brain, misleading...
entertaining little pompus man, if thinking is a novel idea, get out! me 2 late
INSANE!!!! (I am not kidding)
WORST PROF EVER!!! you are not socrates!!!
Very excited about psyc, makes the material bareable
Very hard, but delightfully entertaining....had a Mr. Bean quaility
Great prof. Great zeal for teaching. Great accent. Tests not so great.
Hard. Brilliant man. Enjoyable course. Very sexy
made otherwise boring class interesting
hello, tangent man! talks more about his research than about the material. exams are completely abstract and are barely related to course content. Too bad this is a required course for psychology.
boring course...but he's kinda funny at times and hops around looking goofy. tests are hard! not basic knowledge...u have to really know your stuff and apply it.
Very difficult tests - lots of critical thinking skills necessary. Enjoyed his lectures though. Too bad about the 8:30 am thing. Bub rocks!
Made a boring class very interesting. One of my favourite profs! Very smart and insightful lectures...extremely difficult tests, requires a lot of critical thinking.
lectures were confusing, tests complicated and unclear. In lecture he attempted to be funny and friendly. In person, he was sharp, overbearing and generally unhelpful. I dropped 330 when I found out he was teaching.
extremely boring
Those who complain about Bub just don't like to think, I guess. He's eloquent, funny, and brilliant. You get out as much as you put in.
His tests are very difficult, however, if you go to every class and really listen to what he is sayig then you'll have a chance.
As long as you read the text and review notes the tests are not as difficult as everyone claims! If you just glance over the material the night before I guess it could come off as difficult to understand therefore making his test seem super hard.Good prof
In class great, entertaining and makes the material fun. Out of class, terrible! Didn't return emails, and if you do manage to ever track him down he is condescending and rude
He definately has a talent for lecturing! But you can expect every multiple choice answer to seem possible if you dont study. He will have you wishing for essay or short answer tests!
So Grood, I mean good ... I mean good and Great. One of those proofs that make you work and make you think. If your not willing to do it why are you at University.
By far my favorite prof. He is amazing. I cant imagine anyone having anything bad to say about this man he is brilliant. He has made the most boring material interesting and thought provoking. If only he taught all my classes. Amazing just amazing!!
why does everyone keep trash talking eachother and not just talk about him? Anyway, he's obviously very smart, and can be funny. But I also found that in person he was a jerk. In terms of tests, they weren't "easy", but that's so subjective
Tests complicated and unclear-they make my brain hurt....but seeing him out of class, i found him to be one of the nicest profs i've ever talked to. (the opposite of Skelton) I don't go to lectures ever and I still do well...so the class is alright :)
Psych 210 is very boring and dry. Bub makes it somewhat interesting, but even he admits that it's a boring class. Tests are easy if you do the practice questions - puts a lot of MC questions from the practices on the test!
Very funny and interesting. Great class.
Funny guy, but sucks at to-the-point explanation. Easy enough course, yet he makes it a little harder. Also, he spends the first half of class telling you what he's going to talk about -- leaving him to rush the actual lecture, skipping lots.
nicest guy ever! he gives me hope for the whole human population! He's down-to-earth unlike all the other profs. His tests are kinda difficult- but multiple choice only goes to D, and there are some bonus q's!
he always trying to be good in class but when you talk to him in private you will notice that he is the worst teacher ever!!!
I found the course and instructor both to be very interesting. I wasn't looking forward to the class going in, but it quickly became a favourite. I studied a lot for the final, but didn't feel like I was given the tools in class to do well on the test.
One of the most brilliant minds I have met. He is very dedicated teacher and makes this course a pleasure to take. He is funny, provocative. Tests are fair but you have to work .
a very interesting course.
My best course ever. It is hard but he really gets you to think.
A brilliant and fascinating professor. I was astounded.
I think I would enjoy his class / style of lecturing better if the class weren't at 8:30am.

The class sucks! It's so full of useless information and the exams are insanely hard!!! He rambles on and on and doesn't really say too much!
This prof is awesome. He's so nice and helpful and his tests are really easy if you do the study questions. He even puts bonus questions on his midterms and finals, how sweet is that!
He's a great prof. He makes the topics very interesting although in general they are boring. He is very friendly and I would take another psyc class with him again.
Great prof! He's funny and finds a way to make boring material interesting! Also just a really great guy in general and seems to really care about people. I'd take another class with him any time.
I love Prof. Bub! He makes coming to an 8:30 am class enjoyable and makes a dry subject seem interesting. He is such a dynamic speaker and his stories are funny and entertaining. I will definitely look for him for other courses!
Very good prof. Makes sense out of BORING material. He even gives bonus questions. What a guy!
Amazing prof!!! His charisma and knowledge dragged me into both of his classes early morning. His teaching style is refreshing, fun and abstract. I would definitely recommend anyone to register for his classes he is truly an inspiration and a rarity!
Very charismatic and friendly. Tests are a little on the difficult side, but at least he gives out bonus questions!! Hurray for Bub!
I really liked this prof and class. He made it as interesting as the subject matter allowed and he is really invested in seeing his students excel. He practically told you what was going to be on the exam and gave bonus questions.. Hooray for Bub!!
I really enjoyed this prof. He went out of his way to make the class interesting and seemed generally concerned for his students.
A very nice man, but an incompetent lecturer with the most poorly written tests I've ever read. His lack of clarity seems to stem from a failure to understand the material on his part. Stuff he said contradicted what I'd learned in higher level courses.
Just Completed "Historical and Conceptual Foundations of Psychology" with Daniel Bub. A course that I feared had the potential to be boring and conceptually redundant, was presented by Dr.Bub in an interesting and thought provocative manner.
he make boring subject matter interesting, the personal stories really add to his klecturing abilities
This guy is amazing! It was no problem getting up for his 8:30 class because I knew it would be the highlight of my day... he is so funny and entertaining. Everything we covered in the class really stuck. I'll definately try to get him again.
I felt this class had no relevance whatsoever. The material was boring despite his efforts to make it interesting and it seemed like a philosophy class which I couldn't care less about. Plus it being at 8:30 didn't help either.
Daniel Bub is a passionate and skilled educator!
He is awesome!! He is so funny, and makes the dull material interesting. If you have to take Psyc 210, make sure he is your prof!!
useless
can someone please comment on the level of difficulty of this course? Tough exams? Lots of assignments? Very interested in this. Thx.
I don't know how anyone can even think of negative things to say about Bub. He is a great prof, really tries to keep you engaged with the material, and if you actually know that material, the tests are really fair. Take any course you can with Bub!!
Very entertaining lectures. He's brilliant and passionate about teaching. For the person wondering about workload: he just has a few midterms which you can do really well on if you study the notes and make sure you understand the concepts. He's one of the best
Bub is one of my favorite profs ever...so entertaining and at the same time very effective at getting his point across. Two midterms, no assignments and if you study for them you will do well. Highly recommend 210 w/ Bub.
He makes a painfully boring class very fun. He is a great prof and very entertaining. If you follow the study guides you will do well on the tests. I recommend him and hope to have him as a prof again.
Bub was very inspiring and incredibly intelligent. He cares genuinely about his students and takes time as necessary throughout lectures to make all relevant points clear. Very nice guy and quite funny. The course material could have been redundant and irritating, but he made it fun and applicable.
Dr. Bub is a great psych prof! He really cares about the students and is concerned with how they understand the material. This is probably the only class that I actually enjoy going to and stay awake for. Study hard for his midterms and you'll ace the class!
what's not to like?
Bub is an intelligent, catring prof who would answer relevant questions during lectures. Very fair on his midterms and final, tip for you is to watch for duplicate questions on his final -- 2 questions were the same. Enjoyed his class, never fell asleep once.
Bub is a nice guy. He goes on forever about one little diagram and then wonders why we are so far behind. His stories are funny at least. He did what he could with a relatively boring class.
He goes on forever about one little diagram because he is busting his balls trying to make sure as many people as possible understand. Is this something to complain about?
interesting course made all the more useful by an impassioned, intelligent prof who really knows his subject - the entire class did extremely well this term - best course - take it!
Hilarious in lectures, very entertaining, could give up day job and do stand-up comedy. But beware! His easy-going nature and fun style DO NOT refelct the difficulty of his exams or his willingness to help you in office hours. But damn, he's sexy.
Really hard
great teacher - i really enjoyed going to class and hearing him talk passionatly about what really could have been done dully - the history of psych.
The funniest and most interesting prof at UVIC hands down. This class sounds super boring but is so interesting and teaches you so much about the psych world. Definately worth it.

i love the class he is such a good prof.
outstanding
Brilliant prof, not to mention hilarous! I've never retained so much information just by going to lectures - managed to make a difficult subject interactive, stimulating, and fun.
good guy even if he never gets through everything in the syllabus
Bub was definitely one of the funniest prof in psyc. While exam isn't exactly easy, it's do-able and if study hard, a good grade will be rewarded. Overall recommended prof but the course is dry and philosophical.
The man is a legend!! He knows the course material thoroughly and is an amazing speaker. Even though the material in this course had the potential to be dangerously dry he was able to make it a class you would not want to miss!!
An awesome and knowledgable instructor! Profs like him are why I became a prof.
After attending 3 different universities and taking many different courses in my undergrad, I still hold Dr. Bub as my absolute favorite professor. He knew how to capture the attention of the class and inspire us to do our best.
awesome.
BUB!! I love him, seriously. he is the smartest prof and sooo nice and helpful. I strongly reccommend this amazing teacher. he deserves so many awards. everyone loves him and his brilliant mind
Emphasizes on critical thinking rather than regurgitation of facts.Focuses on details rather than big picture.very intelligent and expects highly of students. Amazing prof and provides you with skills for future career. tests were hard, some questions were lil off the cuff. overall course was demanding but provided great insight to psych as career
Dr. Daniel Bub is a very intelligent cognitive scientist and his passion comes through in his very eloquent lectures. His abilities as an educator are unfortunately sub par. Very unclear expectations led to much frustration throughout the class. Good guy, but built for the lab not the classroom. Do your GPA a favor and avoid; the sad truth.
Bub is obviously knowledgeable about everything that's cognitive neuroscience-related. He teaches extremely well and has many helpful tools such as online videos that re-cap and refresh your learning. HOWEVER, he writes THE ABSOLUTE WORST exams that are wordy and confusing. His tests basically test you how well you can think like him.
I found him to be quite arrogant and disrespectful towards students and other staff. His exams are tough and his wording is confusing. He will take lots of time on simple concepts and just gloss over the more difficult ones.
Dr. Bub is an extremely pretentious, inconsiderate professor. Unfortunately he is an intelligent psychologist lacking the ability to educate students. His ability to explain simple concepts is sub par in addition to interrupting lectures with 'self-fame' anecdotes. He threatens to fail the class 'if he has to' on multiple occasions.
Dr. Bub is very intelligent with all the topics he teaches, but is the very worst. He spends far to much time lecturing the class about attendance and how bad we all did on the test. His exams are terrible, but he makes you learn the concepts then gives the exams to not fully test his students in the right way. I would avoid his classes at all cost
Super pompous dude, kind of arrogant to the point where it's annoying. But the course isn't as crazy as others make it seem. I only went to class on Quiz days. Prior to midterms, I read the text/understood case studies and killed the exams. Pretty easy class. Just learn how to study properly.
I understand the criticism of others about Dr Bub but honestly if you kept up with the reading and went to the classes you would be fine. He is a bit arrogant and spends too much time on the case studies as opposed to other concepts from the text that were also important but he also makes sure that the concepts are easy to understand too.
I thought that Professor Bub was one of the best I have had thus far. He supplied his own online textbook for the course which provided videos that helped a great deal in overall clarification of tough concepts. Unlike other raters, I found him to be quite fair as long as you put in the necessary effort to succeed. Highly recomended!
I am taking this class because it is mandatory for my degree. I found this teacher to be very full of himself, rude, and had no problem telling students how stupid they are. I would NOT recommend him to anyone.
He is a fair prof and as long as you keep up with the readings and case studies, you'll be fine. It does take a lot of work though. I found the lectures to be unnecessary a lot of the time because we were required to know everything before the mini quizzes anyway.
Dr. Bub is incredibly knowledgeable, however his large vocabulary paired with difficult concepts leaves his students baffled. Although very highly qualified in psychology, he doesn't appear to understand people or how they learn. He seems to spews information and constant criticisms, and people do not appreciate it.
Do your readings and watch the case studies and attending his class can be optional. He is knowledgeable not arrogant, he wants the best for his students. His tests and quizzes are a bit hard but if you study for them you will do OK.
*HIGHLY RECOMMENDED* One of the best professors I have ever had at Uvic. He is clear, organized and thoughtful.
He clearly knows his information, however he wastes a lot of clss time complaining on how the students do not understand the material instead of covering the material. He glosses over the more difficult topics and spends way too much time on the easier ones. He is also intimidating and hard to approach because of it. I would avoid him if possible.
I highly recommend this professor. He is what all university professors should be: hard-working, extremely knowledgeable, puts a lot of time into his courses (he wrote his own textbook, for crying out loud!), and has high expectations of people. If you are lazy and looking for an easy grade, do not take this. But he is exemplary in his profession.
One of the most brilliant professors I have had at UVic. He wants you to learn, he doesn't want you to just memorize facts, but he wants you to understand them. Always willing to meet and help clarify. Recommend him to everyone who wants to have an amazing academic experience.
Wonderful Professor. Learned a great deal. Very dedicated and wants the best for his students.
Dr. Bub was my favourite psychology professor at UVic, but be forewarned that he does not cater to the lazy or teach to the lowest common denominator. This class is advanced yoga for the brain; you will be challenged, you will work hard, and you will reap the intellectual rewards of your growth. Understanding, not rote memorization, is key here.
Love this man! Truly cares about your success... he goes above and beyond to clarify the concepts. He went over every question of our midterm and explained the answer to each and where to find it in the course material... it must have taken him hours!!
Awesome professor with a ton of knowledge. You have to work your ass off in his class though. Or at least I did. He has high standards and expectations which can be hard to meet. But even if you do not do well in this class it prepares you very well for future courses such as 215, 313, and many others. Looking forward to more classes with him.
Very impressed with Dr Bub. He makes a lot of effort to provide additional resources to gain a better understanding of course content. Take advantage of these opportunities! Very approachable in person and provides clear explanations so take advantage of office hours! Tests are straight forward, he's not trying to trick you. RECOMMENDED
Dr. Bub is one of my favourite professors at UVic! I absolutely loved his lectures. He truly wants all of his students to succeed. He's absolutely hilarious as well. I can't wait to take another one of his classes in September!
Bub is a very interesting person, for better and for worse. His teaching style is unconventional, but effective. You *will* have to keep up with the work to understand his lectures, and you *will* have to attend every single one, but it's worth it.
Great prof. Funny lectures, gives you lots of notes and study guides to help you succeed. You'll have to keep up, but it's easy to get a good grade in his class
Must attend classes because he does Iclicker quesitons every single lecture which count towards your final grade. The tests are also really hard
Bub is an interesting prof and can be quite funny in his lectures. You really need to keep up with the readings and generally work your butt off in knowing the material in order to get a good grade. He gives you lots of resources to help for studying cause he wants his students to do well. Overall, not a bad class :)
Had Bub a year ago. He's a personable lecturer, but he spends a lot of time talking off-topic (usually about how incompetent his students are), and his exam questions are unclear. If you ask him to clarify, he assumes you're too stupid to understand. Also makes you watch boring, substance-less 20 minute videos. On the bright side, no textbook.
Super nice guy, really clear in his lectures. Read the text though, because the material itself can be a bit dry and you may end up not paying attention the whole class. Ask questions in office hours; go to class for the iClicker points.
Great prof. He is an engaging lecturer, and presents the content really interestingly. You really shouldn't miss a single lecture as he makes comprehension of the topics really effortless. Keep up with his readings and videos (also quite interesting) and you will learn a lot in this course.
This was one of the best Prof's I've ever had. Everything was really well organized, and he gives you the tools to succeed as long as you put in the time. Besides teaching me the material of the class, professor Bub also taught me how to study well in ways that I can apply to other classes. Will definitely be taking another class with him in future
I have never had a prof who does as much for his/her students as he does! His youtube tutorials; the free self-written PDF textbook; and the optional 'jeopardy' nights too. I also loved the iClicker in this class; he would use it to poll students and correlate their participation to final grades to clearly demonstrate how to do well in his class!
The most caring/organized Prof I've ever had. Easy A? Hell no, but that's not the point. USE the MULTIPLE opportunities Bub creates 4 u to expand your intellectual capacity. The concepts are challenging and may not be your jam, but there's so much more to learn from him than what he's testing you on. Read, take notes, ask questions, take his help.
Brilliant professor! Dr. Bub is engaging, intelligent, caring, and funny. Absolutely loves teaching and wants for students to learn and succeed. You will work very hard but you will learn so much. No boring power-points and straight memorization. This is a fantastic course and is the standard all professors should aspire to.
Bub is an amazing professor who makes attending class fun even though the course material is pretty dry. He has his own online textbook so you don't have to buy one. iClicker questions every class (worth 20% of your grade), so skipping isn't wise to do. Very approachable and just wants all his students to do well. Would take another class with him.
Great prof! Made a boring class fun and entertaining
Daniel Bub is the single best Psych Prof I have had at UVic. Bub is a wonderful, and caring educator. The textbook for this class is written by him, includes many hours of video of Dr. Bub explaining case studies, and is available free online for all students. Dr. Bub genuinely cares about your education, because of that he will not hold your hand.
LOVE THIS COURSE. By far the best course I have ever taken and that was mostly because of the way Bub explains his content. He is the BEST prof ever. He makes sure his students get the best marks they can achieve and actually cares about your learning. Everyone should take this course. This course gave me a whole new perspective on psychology.
He is extremely intelligent and it shows in his lectures. The way he describes concepts is unbelievably interesting. I am not a person who likes going to lectures but he is so captivating that missing lectures would honestly be a waste. He is by far one of the best profs I have ever had. Big emphasis on conceptualization over memorization.
Hands down one of the WORST experiences I have ever had with a professor. He doesn't know how to use zoom at all nor brightspces, and he also makes his students calculate their own grades. Syllabus is a mess, his lecture slides are a mess, and his explanations for concepts unclear. He wastes class time and forgets to post important content for test
Prof. Bub is incredibly passionate about psychology. He goes above and beyond to help his students (I have had several courses with him). He made me respect the material and I was able to gain a deeper understanding compared to most profs i've had at Uvic. Would definetly recommend!
For the negative review made on Nov 17th 2020. Bub tried his best with Zoom and brightspaces, cut him slack. He didn't make his student calculate their own grades. His syllabus was fairly clear and Bub was always available to answer any questions. Its up to you to get clarification. Dr. Bub did the best with what he had and was a kind prof.
Though some people struggled with the material, he really cared about making sure people understood the content. 25% of the course grade was based on iClicker questions, and he was always willing to go over the midterm in detail if you asked. His anecdotes about his time as a cognitive psychologist really made the class!
This prof only cites his work, and nothing is ever posted even if you are sick and cannot attend class. The tests are all hypothetical and wholly pointless and have nothing to do with the mind and brain. You look at diagrams all year and learn next to nothing of what you are actually supposed to learn.
Daniel Bub is an excellent professor. He is very clear with what he is trying to convey to the class and makes sure that everyone is following the information being presented. He presents stories from his own personal experiences and it makes the class very engaging. I would highly recommend taking one of his classes if you have the chance.
Prof Bub went out of his way to explain concepts, sometimes multiple times, to ensure his students understood the material. Exams required use of critical thinking, rather than memorization. As long as you attend lectures and review the material, you should be able to do well in this course. 251 with Prof Bub is not a class you'll want to skip.
Dr. Bub was great! Experiments+case studies were used often when teaching content (I dug this!). The tests were fair but I struggled with the conceptual style on the first midterm. Adjusted my studying accordingly for the other two. His summary videos were helpful when reviewing. Clickers were finicky but the questions reinforced my knowledge.
Daniel is a very sweet professor, who seems like he genuinely cares about his students. The material presented in class was mostly based on his own work, and it presents lots of graphs. He post extra help videos for us and gave us chances to improve our grades on tests.
This course in general is not easy. Dr. Bub does the best he can by providing videos clearly going over and explaining the concepts he teaches in class prior to exams and is always available to meet with students outside of class. As long as you pay attention, attend class, and take notes (which you should be doing anyways) you will do well.
Thoroughly enjoyed going to the lectures (not something that I would often say). An extremely engaging professor who wants you to understand the content and do well. If you attend lectures and keep up with the assigned readings you will do great.
Super passionate and cares about his work. Old school lecturing style which I respect. Prof Bub is an awesome person but isn't super tech savy which is ok but do not expect in depth lecture recordings to be posted. Overall good prof and fun course.
Most knowledgeable cognitive psychology professor UVIC has to offer No assignments, only 3 tests (final was noncumulative), and 5 iclicker questions during lectures First test resulted in a large majority getting below 50% which he addressed adequately. Subsequent tests were substantially easier. He's a good prof who clearly tries, love you Bub
Bub is passionate and fair. His course is a bit different than other 251 sections, bit I've heard its a great intro for higher level cognitive psych courses. His tests are challenging but fair and open book. He posts content review videos and even added an extra credit quiz when the midterm average was low. I look forward to more classes with him.
Dr. Bub seems to have good intentions but unfortunately executes poorly. The content addressed in the course is irrelevant to future classes in the mind and brain area. If you plan on continuing down this stream of psychology, I would not recommend this course, as a lot of the information taught is specific to the prof's own research and work.
Prof. Bub is a really nice person, and he seems very enthusiastic about his material, HOWEVER I found his teaching style to be very outdated and his slides were VERY confusing for me (5-8 slides for one concept, never condensed information). Attendance is mandatory as a big chunk of your grade comes from iclicker participation.
Passionate and knowledgable about the field. Much of what was taught was centered around his prior research. Course barely covered basic brain anatomy/structures/processes.Tests were difficult but not unmanageable. He tended to blame the class/say we weren't listening even if the majority got an iclicker question wrong (if he deemed it "easy")
I love professor Bub but he does tend to speak in very academic words and forget to explain things simply. But he's a good lecturer and I learned a lot in his classes. Hard exams though
He's obviously a genius, which makes some of his explanation and exam question wording confusing, but he is genuinely a very passionate and knowledgeable researcher. It's an enjoyable class; he's witty and always tries his best to make sure the content makes sense for students. 10/10
Daniel Bub is very kind and genuinely wants his students to do well. Although his exams are very challenging. Questions are a page long and require 2-3 paragraphs of reading for each question before the actual question. No textbook but lots of readings. Taking his class with 4 other classes was very difficult, his classes require lots of work.
Easy course his tests are all multiple choice, open book and there are no assignments. Content is pretty easy to get if you go to class and he also posts lecture recordings and optional readings if needed. iClicker is worth 25% of your grade so do not skip
I think Daniel is a good professor he is enthusiastic about his work and keeps things interesting in lectures. His 391 course was extremely difficult in terms of digesting the material there is no dumbing anything down. His exams are very difficult although openbook. No opportunity for grade boosting-2 30% midterms, 1 15% and participation-no final
Make sure you go to class as the iClicker quiz questions are worth 25% of your grade. Bub is clearly very passionate about his content/teaching style but it doesn't work for everyone. I found the slides to be extremely unclear and the open book/online tests they were difficult. Content isn't too difficult just very unorganized.
Here's the thing about Bub. If you go to class, engage, and TAKE NOTES IN HIS SLIDE DEKS, you will do just fine. Yes, his slides are an absolute mess, and yes, his lack of organization boarders on pathological, but he was also one of my favorite profs at UVic so far. Great lectures, very caring, and genuinely prepares you for a career in clinical
Try to avoid this professor if you can. I have showed up to almost every class this semester and found myself incessantly struggling every single lecture. His explanations to concepts just feel so complex and it always goes over my head. For context, I had gotten an A in psyc 351A and for this class I'm barely going to get a B. So much regret!
Lectures are engaging and funny. Slides are a mess & not consistent with lecture. He cares about students and is passionate about topic. Enjoy class but often leave confused. He needs reminding this is entry level 3rd year class, not a graduate one! Tests are wordy and HARD. Been an A student for 3 yrs, but I'll be lucky to get a C. GPA now tanked.
This prof clearly cares and is passionate. However, your mark in this class is only based on exams, and difficult iclicker questions. His exams are extremely difficult and no amount of studying will prepare you for them. Do not take this class if you don't want to tank your GPA.
While I agree that Dr. Bub's testing style is unique and takes some getting used to, psyc 351B with him was one of the most engaging courses I have ever taken. His tests involve almost purely critical thinking about fundamental concepts instead of small details. He truly changed the way I think about psych. Attending lectures is crucial for success
Dr Bub cares, is engaging, and funny, but this course tanked my GPA. He overcomplicated topics that I have understood for years to the point I was so confused. His tests are very long and I never really knew what he was asking even though I understood the content, and worth A LOT. Also very bad at communicating but won't help clarify.
exams make no sense, clickers make no sense, his q's feel like trying to understand a different language [I ended 351a with an A for reference]. studying feels pointless - exam questions often have nothing to do with lectures, are 10x more complex than anything he says in class, and he overcomplicates everything. this one's going to kill my GPA :,)
Did I enjoy the class overall and is Dr. Bub very knowledgable + helpful? Yes. Was it one of the toughest classes I have taken in university so far? Also yes. He does really well at helping you learn in class rather than out but has many tests or test-like components. Each question in his tests can range from 1-4 paragraphs to read though.
A brilliant and knowledgeable professor with a wealth of experience that he communicates in his lectures.
Daniel bub is a sweet guy, but his lecture style/testing style is ridiculous. 3 midterms and 2 class exercises, the class exercises are worth the same as the midterms and just as long with the same format. Might as well be 5 midterms, constant studying. Even though it is open book, it doesn't help as everything is much harder/different than lecture
Recommend him if you're passionate about neuropsych! Knowledgeable and focuses on conceptual understanding rather than memorization. Helpful in office hours if you're confused about content. Exams require a great deal of effort and will likely humble you, but it's still possible to do well. NOT an easy A, but so rewarding if you love to learn!
Bub was very confusing, he even confused himself most lectures. The class only focused on specific topics and was nothing like 351A. Wait to take this course with another professor. Unless you are interested in his research specifically, avoid!
