best prof in fresh engr. he may seem like a hard grader, but if you do well on the exams and do the hw and quizes you will get a good grade. very down to earth, not your typical engineer, he has a personality. this is why most enginerds hate him.

Budny is really good at teaching a class in which the students have many different backgrounds in the material. He swears a lot. He wastes a lot of time before class starts, but that is my only complaint. The class requires a lot of work, but he makes it pretty interesting.

Is Budny Hitler reincarnate? The world may never know. But those who've had him do know that everyone enjoys some good old fashioned obscenity every so often. No idiotic PTA is gonna bust this party! It's much easier to learn from someone who's funny to listen to. Tell us a story Uncle Dan!

funniest teacher ever. better than both a sharp stick in the eye and french toast on a sunday morning. he straight up tells you that life sucks and you have to deal with it. there is always incentive to work quickly in his class seeing as how the FIRST ONE DONE GETS A COOKIE!!!

MATLAB & C are pretty boring, but Budny made this class very entertaining. Could be pretty bad if it wasn't him who taught it.

Budny is awesome. Let's face it, is there any other 50 year old dude less mature than any of his students? He has incredible knowledge, lame jokes, and tons of character. I wish I were in engineering just so I could take his fluids course. He's the man.

Well what can I say. He was a great teacher. He is more worried about whether or not you know the material by the end of the course. He is extremely immature in class, which keeps students attention, but if you approach him in his office about a serious topic he will be 100% serious with you. GREAT TEACHER!!!

Budny is the man. Best professor I had, wants the students to learn the material and teaches it in a way that I love. His language is pretty strong but makes the two hours go by rather quickly and enjoyably, take him if you can.

Comments on here are pretty accurate. He's a funny guy who also happens to be a good teacher. Written tests are painfully easy and the homework can get tedious. The computer midterm and final, while not inherently more difficult than the homework, were challenging because of the time limits imposed.

The best thing about the way that Budny teaches is that he is practical. I learned the most in this class last semester but it was was not my most demanding class. He shows you what you need to know and gives you alot of practical "in the field" kind of situations

Budny was a great professor. Good sense of humor, but he does waste a good bit of time in lecture asking who likes the material everyday and that gets a little old. I like his style over the other ENGR 0011 profs because he let's you do the problems in class as he is doing them, instead of just showing you the powerpoint on them.

This man is a legend. Homework is pretty hard and takes a while, but if you understand the material his tests are not bad.

Budny wasn't the best at time management, organization, or explaining really tough concepts, but i appreciated his sense of humor and casual attitude, because two hours is a really long time to learn about anything, let alone computer programming, and I think he realized that. For this mandatory engineering class, def. try to get Budny!

Hilarious guy, engineering legend. The class was easy because I knew the logic of programming already, even if I didn't know the languages. Much more fun than the ENGR 0011 class seems to be. I'd recommend 711 and Budny any day.

everybody on here who has a problem with Budny probably went off to the school of arts and craft because they couldn't hack it. great class and great speeches. could do without the papers or conference but tis the price we pay. Who wants to play college?

Great class. For someone who had never programmed before, Budny was a great teacher. Lots don't like his humor, but I find him hilarious!!

He's a great teacher. I went into the class without any idea of how to program and learned rather quickly. Gives good speeches too...very honest about life. But if you try to go to office hours, he isn't as helpful. I sat in his office for 30 minutes doing doing because his wife called while I was there.

Best prof for engr analysis their is, do all you can to get into his classes. You will learn more and do better on the exams. He wrote the book, so he knows his stuff. Funny guy as well.

Dan Budny is the best professor there is for engineering and you definitely want to get him for your engineering analysis class. I would not recommend any other teacher he tells you exactly what you're going to need to know for the exams and he is a very nice man with a... weird and funny sense of humor!

um he's a love him or hate him kinda prof helpful but always busy he's a lot of fun during the class but can also be real tough if he doesn't think you're trying. Will often try to break you down but is always there to help get back up.

JANE AND THE DRAGON!! he wrote the book on the topic (literally). He's hialrious and fairly inappropriate but it works. Seems like a hardass at times but if you try and can make him laugh you'll pass.

Budny is the man! He'll give you a lot of homework (all sections of eng 11/12 have the same work though), and it'll seem like busy work at times, but he's an effective teacher and absolutely hilarious. Definitely my favorite professor so far.

Dr. Budny is the boss for all the other teachers teaching this class... So take him. He is the best his class is hilarious and his odd teaching method works. If you get lost because he is going to fast then ask the TA that will be in the room during lecture. If you do all the homeworks and don't bum off your partner you will get am A.

Assigns grades randomly. All the homework and quiz scores are just there to keep you focused because he does teach you a lot.

Very interesting guy. Class is just like the speeches that he gives to the engineering students during PittStart and orientation week. If he did completely rub you the wrong way class will be fun. Dr. Budny is an awesome professor. His classes are a lot of fun and informative if you can follow his form of teacher. He does mainly examples and his tests reflect his lectures and HWs. Go to him for help because he's very open to help his students. He's a great guy!

Dr. Budny is a great guy and a great professor. The things he has you do in class are exactly like the tests because he writes them. The number one reason to take him is the fact that he writes the test. He is helpful during office hours and so is his TA. Dr. Budny takes a relatively boring class and does his best to make it fun.

Budny is no doubt the craziest professor Ive had here. He keeps the class interesting though. It is easy to fall behind in his lectures though, and in this course once your behind there's no catching up. The midterm was easy, but the final was hard.

Best professor ever. People say his jokes get old fast, but I loved every second of it. He can go pretty fast in lecture, but if you do the homework and pay attention, you'll do fine. Oh, and take his life lessons to heart. No other engineering professor will hold your hand like Budny after freshman year, so enjoy it.

Class with Budny is...an experience. He has absolutely no filter, so be prepared for anything! He's very entertaining, but I found it hard to take him seriously. Lectures move pretty fast and generally don't teach much. Most of the learning in his class is through the homework assignments.

Keeps class very interesting...lectures are normally fast and hard to follow, so most learning is done in the homework assignments, but it's a lot of fun if nothing else. Tests are nothing unexpected. Definitely recommended.

I LOVE BUDNY! He was ridiculously, hilariously, endearingly obscene. Overall easy A, but a LOT of work (time-consuming assignments and UGH THE RESEARCH PAPERS!!). Lectures move very fast. Take assignments seriously (do NOT let your group carry you) & you will do fine. He REALLY cares about his students, and his "storytime" was beautiful. TAKE HIM!

Professor Budny was one of my favorite professors. This class will be a lot of work regardless of the teacher. He makes it interesting and entertaining.

Dr. Budny is very intelligent and knowledgeable. He explains the material in a clear and entertaining way. He has a.. strange sense of humor that can get on your nerves at times. Not for everyone. Read ahead so that you can follow along in class. Choose your group wisely. I highly recommend taking his class if you can!

Great professor. Super hilarious sense of humor makes the lectures engaging and go by quicker. Walks you through everything you need to know, so as long as you go to class, pay attention, and actually do the homework you will get an A. Everyone copies homework from each other but you will only pass the test if you do the homework yourself.

Great professor. He has a unique teaching style, often using vulgar language and jokes in his lectures. He doesn't really take the class seriously. He wrote the textbook for this class and is in-charge of most things, so he's a good professor to have for ENGR 11.

Most of the material covered in this class is very easy to pick up. Budny is a very funny teacher and he makes this boring class somewhat bearable. The exams are generally easy and so are the quizzes but he tends to give too little time to complete the quizzes so make sure to complete them quickly.

ENGR0011 is standard - you'll get the same tests, quizzes, and homeworks regardless of the professor. Lecture is long and boring, so taking Budny was the best choice because of how entertaining he is. It's easy to get lost in class, but the homeworks clarify the material and tests are similar to the homework. Put in the effort and you'll get an A.

Budny is a character. ENGR introduces freshman to coding, which I personally had no experience in prior to college. He shows you how to do different things on the computer, so just follow along. He's a really funny guy, and cares about students (although he can be tough at times.. Wish I still had him!

If you like the easy going professor, then Budny is perfect for you. Although his jokes get old very fast, at least he tries. I highly recommend this class, as it is not difficult (but does take a lot of time). Lectures get really boring but are important to comprehension, especially if you do not have coding experience.

Budny is the man. He constantly makes lectures on boring topics more interesting than they should be, and he really knows what he's doing as long as you follow along in class. Book is necessary to pass the class and make sure to Budny recognizes you for something good at the beginning of the semester, names stick.

Professor Budny teaches Intro to Engineering Analysis very well. Unlike other teachers, as he teaches he shows you what do. Budny hooks a computer up to a projector and does the coding or excel worksheet in front of you, instead of just teaching with a powerpoint. He moves fast. He can be a little bit off the wall, which causes some to dislike him.

Budny has his own flavor of teaching... some people love him, others hate him. At the end of the day, he really cares about his students and is very knowledgeable, even if his lectures can get a little ridiculous sometimes.

You really like him, or you absolutely hate him. I liked him. His teaching style is unorthodox: he swears, no notes/powerpoints, unorganized. However, he codes in front of you and it's helpful to see how to do it. If you can keep up with him it makes it much easier. He has many days where he's hilarious. A TON of homework, but that's for all 0011

Dr. Budny does not teach with powerpoint and normal lectures. He curses, calls out students, and has awful jokes. However, if you're struggling in the class, he will gladly help you out and will not insult you. You either like him or hate him, there is very little in between

There is a lot of homeworks just due to the nature of the class, but Budny is by far the best professor for ENGR0011. He is the only one that can somehow make 2 hours of coding not painstaking and he lectures by example so you don't need to read on your own time. Class is not hard, just time consuming.

Daniel Budny, AKA Uncle Dan, AKA Dan the Dragon Man. What a magnificent beast. He sometimes acts like someone with early onset dementia, but hes hilarious and it somehow works for teaching ENGR 0011 and 0012. Read the book, because he writes it, but he goes over everything important in class. I wish he was my father, or at least my drinking buddy.

Budny's teaching style is not for everyone. His lectures consist of him joking and bs-ing his way through the entire thing, but when you leave you realize you really have learned a lot. Overall, I think he is the best option for ENGR 0011 and ENGR 0012. go into class prepared for him to say wild things and try not to take offense to his jokes.

Dr. Budny is a LEGEND. He is honestly the funniest professor I've ever had in my entire life! Jokes aside in that class, you come out and realize how much you've actually learned. Read the book! Budny writes it and it lays out what is important to know for the HW and the exams. Be prepared to work in groups; that is a huge part of this class.

I would have dropped out of engineering if I didn't have Budny as my professor. He's the most incredible man I've ever met, and you know class is interesting when he tells us to say something in gibberish and all 75 of us repeat it. I went in with no coding experience and am likely going to get a B in the course. I love college

Budny is legendary is the civil department for a reason. Hes much more fun these days and if you study a little fluids should be fun and easy.
