Very strong opinions, very cynical, at first thought he was a complete dick but now it's my favorite class love the discussions lots of reading but it's a class thats impossible to sleep threw!

Dr. Cady is one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are not organized but it makes class a lot more interesting. He knows what he is talking about and he assigns interesting reading. If you want a professor who sits there and lectures off of a boring PowerPoint every day... don't take him.

Great class! Dr. Cady is very creative in his teaching---not boring at all! He keeps the class moving and covers many topics that are relevant. Lectures are interesting, books (one text, other non-texts were used for this class) were interesting.

LOVED THIS CLASS!! First impression i thought it would be horrible but a year later i miss it! I learned a ton! Despite the way he seems he's a great guy. The only time i've looked up a prof to see if i could take another course from him!

Just do the reading (what nay student should do) come to class, discuss the thesis and topics of the assigned readings, ask questions if you dont get it, figure out what he wants you to know, study it for the test, take it, get an A

Interesting, very interesting. Had a great time, although I often felt like an idiot. How he would come up with the right thing to say on the right day to make me feel like and a jack***, I will never know. Read a lot and expect hard grading. Yet, I loved his class. Always had fun and learned a sh** load!

An awesome class. I learned a lot about California, and the stuff that i thought i knew, did not know. Reading is a must. If you do not like to read don't take this class. IT is a really fun and challenging class.

Dr. Cady is a fantastic professor. He made coming to night school bearable. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Reading is a must. Although, I could have done without the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Suburban Warriors was the best book that I read during the semester out of all my classes.

He has a mini starbucks coffee everyday, cusses profusely but is pretty funny and makes the history actually enjoyable

oh where to began? the first day of class is a day where he will sift through the weaker students by yelling,cussing,insulting religions, things like that. dont take it personal. he did not require a textbook he posted a few pages of reading a week on Bb easy readings. once a week we had a test either 10,15 questions online. dont text in class!

I learned more in this class than the rest of my college experience combined. If you go to class and pay attention (which you will want to do for the sheer entertainment value) you will receive more quality learning than Mr. Cady is being paid to dispense. I almost considered switching my major to take more classes from him.

Extremely interesting prof. He makes the Calif/music history very enjoyable, even though his teaching method and assigns are a bit odd. He knows his stuff, wants you to defend your argument, and READ. What's the point of being a Hist major if you dont want to read> He's very blunt, curses a lot, but you definitely wont fall asleep in his class.

Dr. Cady could be a jerk, but its his jerkness that makes his class interesting. He makes history interesting and easy to learn. He requires no textbook. If you sit in the front you will pass. Oh and if you are easily offended, don't take the class. Overall he is a great professor.

Dr. Cady will make it seem like he is working a stand up routine, but will tie everything he was talking about into the topic intended. He knows how to keep his audience interested. This was personally my favorite class at Fresno State. If you are not willing to show up and listen or have no sense of humor, you will not make it in this class.

Very funny. He will make it seem like he's a hard ass, but as long as you do the work, it's an easy class. Don't expect to show up having not done the reading though, he will put everyone on the spot. Very unpredictable. You definitely learn in his class.

He is amazing! I took his history 12 class a couple of semesters ago. he is really funny, and keeps you interested. I highly suggest him, if you want to stay awake in a history class and have a good laugh.

Is very in tune with what Popular American Music is, He always will keep you on your toes, and make sure to do the reading, or be able to act like you know what his crazyness is about.

Great professor! I'm not the smartest student but I love his class and he made me want to go and it resulted in a "B" take him anyone can pass you don't even have to try that hard

Well I am liberal studies major and this class difinetly gives you a good insight of Califonria and interesting facts you probably didnt even know. You learn a lot from Cady. Likes to joke around. Good comedian. Good info. BUT you have to do as he say: requires some reading and search but it interesting stuff, not all of it but most of it. GoodLuck

I really didn't know what to think of Cady @ first. He acts rude &arrogant BUT he really won me over. Turns out he is a nice guy-HILARIOUS & VERY engaging. Makes history very enjoyable & thought provoking. He doesn't respond rudely to participating students & wants to encourage classroom debate. Most always he wins,lol but speak up :D & stay!!!

This was a fun class. I learned more in this class than I had ever done. His rants are so funny and they all connect to the lecture. I really enjoyed the class and it was 3 hours long! Loved it!

This is not the kind of 3 hour night class you dread going to, its the one class you want to go to. He's funny & creative. He likes to entertain himself using the students, but no worries its fun to participate. He's not as tough as he makes himself out to be just do the readings, participate, & go to class. + I think he's sweet eye candy.

There was never a dull moment in this class! The assignments and tests were very spontaneous and the group assignments were definitely the worst part of the class. However, Dr. Cady's lectures were interesting and very entertaining (he's not too bad to look at either). If you want to pass this class, you have to read the assigned material!

He gives you a 5 to 10 point quiz every single week. He is funny and pays attention to his students well but if you like quizzes every week then take his class. Study really hard too because he will give you a comprehensive test at the end of the semester and it's the only test of the semseter.

GO TO CLASS AND READ THE TEXTBOOK. He gives you a quiz every single week. He's kind of lazy too. The good thing is that he's pretty fair and will sometimes do what the class wants. Study for his only test, which is at the end of the semester. There is a good amount of stuff needed to be covered.

Great class! I find myself referencing it all the time! Cady makes the information relevant and offers good connecting points to the students' every day life! His text selections are still in my library!

this teacher is HILARIOUS! He takes CA history and makes it fun to learn and easy to remember! Midterm is a few essays, but if you listen to his lectures you are bound to ace it. Make sure to go to class! Many tiny quizzes on the readings so make sure to read!!! I wish i could take more classes with him. One of my best teachers i have ever had!

One of my favorite teachers at State. He is sarcastic, funny, and very blunt. The material isn't always intersting, but there is never a boring day in class. He is extremely entertaining and the work isn't that hard. His group quizzes aren't great, but if you go over your notes, you'll be fine. Tests were easy and he's willing to help!

He is a very interesting teacher. He is mean, funny and sarcastic...my kind of teacher. Readings are a must for the quiz and the midterm was so easy--Essay question. Overall a great teacher and has extra credit throughout the semester so do it! it will add up in the end.

GREAT PROFESSOR! You could earn an easy A without even going to class although his teaching style is so funny and an creative I never missed class. I would sometimes miss my other classes but come to campus to make it do comedy hour. He's brilliant.

The most hilarious instructor I've had in four years at Fresno State!!! You have to have a good sense of humor. The book for the class was cheap, saved me a lot of money, the assignments are pretty easy, readings are a must and they are all on BB. I did not miss a single class, because they would put me in a good mood for the rest of the day!!

This class was one of my favorite classes at Fresno State! Mr. Cady is extremely intelligent and makes class hilarious. It is like going to a comedy show for 50 minutes, best class!

He is a very funny teacher but he tends to get off subject every once in a while. Overall the class was tolerable and fun! Attendance is mandatory because their is no book and makes test based on lecture. Likes to pick on those who are hardly their and will make sure you do not pass if your not their for lecture. Pretty much my favorite class!!:)

Dr. Cady always gets a bad rep because he expects you to have tough skin. Count on him picking on yo, but if you give as good as you get, you'll be okay. I had him for Jewish American Pop Culture, but really it was the history of Hollywood but didn't want to call it that because then the class would be completely full. But he's funny.

Dr. Cady was the most amazing professor ever! Really helped me through the entire class. If you need help he takes you by the hand and walks you through the valley of the dead. Has never failed a student and does not intend to. If you worried about taking a history class this is a great starter class!

He's honestly one of the best and wisest teachers I've ever had. He manages to make class extremely entertaining while also teaching us the things we need to know. Hes a combination between Patch Adams, George Carlin, and that eccentric fictional Harry Potter professor Mad Eye Moody all-in-one. Hold on tight, its a white knuckled ride! Go to class! The Best! This class is about CA history from origins, to missions, Mexico's secularization of CA to Gold Rush-a requirement for Education Majors. History you have never heard. You will be introduced to authors such as Steven W. Hackel and James A. Sandos. This may be the most amazing class you will ever take on history. Take with an open mind!

Great teacher. Dr. Cady is one of the best lecturers at State. He will challenge you, inform you, and make you laugh. The class is history of CA. Some of this history is dark and unflattering of things that were done in the name of God, money, and power politics. Doctor Cady will enlighten you. Get ready. No book is needed. Easy A if you study.

Brilliant. Dr. Cady is one of the best professors I've encountered thus far at Fresno State. He's completely underrated and should be given an award or a raise, or something. I have never had a prof like Cady before. I'm not a history major or liberal arts major, so I was hesitant about this class. I have never been more interested in a history class in my life. And I have never willingly read this much for a class either. Don't agree with his philosophy on life, but he is a great thinker and I respect him.

Reading every week, one midterm essay and amazing lectures. Recognizes faces and expects participation. Attend class and read as should great class will learn so much! Will assign the book, 2 chapters a week and then discussions.

For any of Cady's classes, one must have: tough skin, ready to argue their points, read the daily readings thoroughly, and be alright with no syllabus. Cady will piss you off and inspire you in the same breath. No quizzes/exams. One paper. Easy grader, but expects you to contribute in class discussions - you will be called out otherwise.

Go to class every session, read, and enjoy the lectures. No history major should go without taking this class with Dr. Cady. Beware that you will need to come to class with tough skin, or develop it as the semester goes on.

I am a Fresno State Alum & came to this website to SPECIFICALLY rate Cady. He kept me on my toes & interested all semester. The only time I missed was because I was dead sick. You will not be disappointed! Do not take his class if you're scared to be called out.

I agreed to taking this class without knowledge of the course or the professor, and it was by far the most thrilling experience I've had at Fresno State!!! Dr. Cady is the man! He threw me off the very first day, but I loved every freaking moment. Such a cool guy.

Hands down the best class I have ever taken. The best way to describe Dr. Cady is dynamic and unorthodox. If you need rigid structure or if you have fragile religious beliefs that inhibit your critical thinking skills, stay away. THIS is what courses should look like. We desperately need more professors like him.

Dr. Cady is brilliant. He will call you out if you miss class or get offended but can't defend your position. If you don't do the easy, interesting readings, or don't like to show up to class- just drop the course. Either allow yourself to wonder if you don't quite "know" everything you think you know or get out. Cady suffers no fools.

Honestly Cady is probably the best professor you'll ever have, he'll definitely make you speak up and participate. If you like to skip class don't take his class, he remembers faces and names pretty fast. If he gives you a nickname it will stick.

I thought he was a great teacher. Could be offensive but over all I leaned a lot about our states history and I think he was very real. He never tried to dance around the truth. Im thankful I took SSCI110 with him!!

He is very blunt, come to class prepared and you should be fine. Lecture heavily but he is very funny majority of the time.

Mr. Cady is a very knowledgable guy and a great teacher. He opens up your eyes about issues in history and issues that are relevant to present time. If you are easily offended you may have some issue with his honestly but I do recommend taking his class and keeping an open mind. Participation matters in the class, he likes to hear you opinions.

Best professor and super easy course. He talked about real world issues that are ignored. He sheds light on things that our society tries to cover and turn a blind eye to. If you can, take this course, it definitely changes your mindset.

Cady opens up your mind to events in history that were always hidden from the regular history curriculum. However, he can be very blunt, and isn't afraid to share his opinion even if it may offend you, so if you're somebody that is easily offended if someone insults/disagrees with your views, dont take him. he couldnt care less about offending you

He's really judgmental, like everything you love and respect he will just rip apart. So have a thick skin and just take everything as a joke. My mental health got to a really bad place and i stopped going. I still got a c. Not too bad of a class. You can have pretty much any opinion you want as long as you can support it.

Great class I actually looked forward to, which is hard for a night class. Interesting readings that I never wanted to skip, even if they were long. Lectures were entertaining. My favorite part, our only assignment was a historical nonfiction paper for our final! Such an exciting change of pace. One of my favorite classes so far, thanks Dr. Cady!!

Dr. Cady is the bro!!! I had him for a night class and I actually looked forward to it. He honestly should do standup because the stuff he says will make you die laughing sometimes. He really makes you look at history differently and only required one paper that was nonfiction piece. Awesome class and actually learned something from it.

He is a great professor. As long as you don't take his "opinions" seriously since he only stating what is actually going on. I loved participating in class with other students, each had their own belief or opinions.

Awesome class and professor! Wednesday nights were my favorite and his lectures were informative and entertaining. There are comments about his "rants" but if you read the weekly readings, you will see that they all intertwine with each other and have purpose. He encourages opposite point of views even if he doesn't agree with them.

He's cool but forsure rambles. Takes the whole 3 hours for the class so have a good place to sit and some snacks because it's a long class. Overall he's funny and a good professor don't take him if you can't take a joke.

if you have the chance to take Dr. Cady, then do it. He is hands down the best professor at Fresno State. I have taken him each semester that I have been here and never once regretted it. He does tend to go off on tangents but they are usually relevant to what he is teaching or are good examples of what he teaching. If you do the HW, you'll pass.

Professor Cady was funny and easy-going. The only assignments we had were one reflection a week and one essay at the end of the semester. He is sarcastic and his humor may rub some the wrong way. His lectures are long and he does go off on tangents at times. However, it is an easy A and you'll learn a lot if you engage yourself.

This class was by far my least stressful course and more of a therapy session and group discussion to talk about life and somehow bring it back to California history. I highly encourage you to talk to him and just participate and get out of your shell because he is a really fun interesting person to talk to. He is a fantastic professor.

A professor you watch on Crash Course YouTube channel. Class work consists of attending, speak up for yourself and engaging in conversation. He comes off as smug, but he is a very nice and thoughtful to any student, who engages. DO THE REFLECTION!!!!!

You will never know what the heck he is going to talk about because he starts class with some off the wall topic but eventually he connects it to a lesson.. This dude is hilarious and SO SMART!! Enjoyed his class very much. The way he structured class made it not boring, and he is definitely passionate about history.

I was confused for the entirety of this class. I think there were maybe 3 times I knew what was going on, but he's easy so whatever. He just talks at you for an hour and 15 minutes and you take notes and try to reflect on it every week. An essay at the end worth 20 points. All you're graded on is weekly reflections, but there's no word count.

Very Smart! Lecture heavy. Just show up, take notes, interact with conversations and do the reflections. There is one paper due at the end of the semester with no word count. Easy class. He is very straight forward and blunt at times. But I really enjoyed listening to his rambles. He is very passionate about history and facts.

Amazing Professor, class is mandatory, Easy assignments, no exams. He does writing assignments after class so he knows you attended. He is hilarious. He comes off as rude im not even sure if that's the correct word for it but it's all jokes, don't take them serious. I would recommend his courses. :) he also has class discussions.

He's just amazing, like he does not have any midterms or exams at all. Like, although he just talks and talks, it might get a little boring, but at least he does not give out hw. If you need a class, don't hesitate to take him.
