What a great professor! Very clear lectures, and he tells you upfront what to expect. Showing up to class is a must, though. If you don't, you will be completely lost, although all of his class notes/powerpoints are online. He is very clear in his lectures, and will make sure everyone understands before moving on. I would definitely recommend him!
Worst professor I have EVER had. Hands down.
This class is extremely challenging and requires hours upon hours of diligent homework effort. His tests are nothing like his homework so be prepared for low test grades. Class average tends to be a C. I would take Holmes or someone else.
Really difficult class with a really difficult teacher. Nice guy, but his tests are unreasonnable.
Awesome teacher! If you study the homework and test reviews you will be fine and the final is optional.
Yanosky is a cool guy; he really tries to relate to students. I think he really does try his best to teach the course material well, but he just goes WAY too fast sometimes. There's a lot of WebAssign homework - one every week and they usually take a couple hours. Tough class, especially if you've never had any statistics or calculus.
Take Morse,he's a much better teacher and quite easy.m
Any professor outside of Yanosky is the one to go. He's unhelpful, condescending, and shows favoritism with grading. Beware and take care
Attend his lectures to get 2 points added to your overall grade. Great professor.
For attendance, he gives you credit for in class clicker points, or you can use your test average. Gives you lecture notes to print out so you can actually pay attention in class. Notes are easy to read/ understand and better than other professors notes. Second test is the hardest. Homework is the best thing to study from. Tests are much harder tho
Dr. Yanosky is a pretty easy lecturer, but for a class that uses a lot of excel he doesn't allow you to use your laptop in class. He spends the first half of the class reviewing what he did the class before. He requires clicker questions for attendance. You have HW due every week and 2 case studies as well so keep that in mind.
Dr.Y is by far my favorite professor at UGA. He is very comprehensive in his explanations and his courses are systematic and straight-forward. There are no surprise quizzes and attendance is extra credit with a weekly assignment that takes one to two hours to complete. Will definitely take his classes again!
This class was dificult for me because my learning styles did not match up with the teaching style. The material is difficult to understand to rewriting and reading power point slides are key. If you go into his office hours he's a super nice guy and works with you! Better one on one.
He's under rated in my opinion. Really smart teacher who is quite funny at times. The material itself is difficult if you have never taken calc but he does a pretty good job of explaining it. Clicker questions keeps you engaged with the class.
This teacher made the material extremely confusing. I would try and avoid this teacher at all costs. I am usually really good at math but I couldn't do well at all in this class. Grading is extremely hard and class just makes you even more confused. Homework is a lot and its only worth 10% of your grade.
Dr. Y has probably been one of the hardest professors that I have ever taken. His class has been the first class that I have ever failed and I was a junior at the time. The lectures are long and his teaching style isn't very interesting. All the test and homework are online.
He is a great teacher. He does overview of what we taught the previous class, so if you missed class you can still learn. He gives you a formula sheet for the test that helps a lot. I did not study anything but the practice test he gave us and I made A's. You do not have to attend class to pass, but I recommend you do so!
I think Dr. Y has been one of my favorite teachers to date is definitely underrate. His MSIT3000 class is the most straightforward class I have ever taken. You literally read the handmade notes , print them out and bring them to class, you do the homework and practice test identical to the test, and get an Easy A in this course.
I liked having Dr. Yanosky as a professor. The class itself isn't super interesting and can be difficult but he's funny and makes lectures more interesting. He offers 4 extra points (3 for doing in class clicker questions and 1 for getting above an 80 on each HW.) and is extremely helpful if you go to him outside of lecture. I'd recommend him.
I didn't personally enjoy Dr. Yanosky's lectures, he doesn't allow technology even though the second half of the course requires excel and other computer functions -- I stopped going to class and taught myself based off of the lecture powerpoint that are posted online and received an A in the course.
he was really great at explaining the material and the tests were super easy.
As someone with a calculus background the first part of this class was a breeze, but the statistics part is hard and confusing. He doesn't do a good job explaining everything, I sit in class and zone out. I'm going to end up teaching myself the material but you should still go to class for those bonus points (3% added to final grade)
Dr. Y moves through the material pretty fast but does his best to make it interesting. Tests are fair and very similar to the HW and practice tests. He adds 3 extra credit points to final grades if you attend class. His slides are thorough enough that you don't need to buy the book. If you have a basic calc/stat background this will be an easy A.
Lecture is helpful and also extra credit, but didn't get any EC because I would rarely go to class. There are videos on ELC explaining concepts if you are confident that you can understand math and excel without that in class help, and when the midterms and final are coming up you can do the practice versions as a good idea of what will be on them.
He was my favorite professor at UGA. He is a really cool guy and I enjoyed going to his class. Most people dont find calculus or statistics fun, but he made it interesting and easy to understand. I also took him for MSIT 3000 and would recommend him for that class as well. Tests are intimidating but just study the homeworks and you'll do fine
Dr. Y was a very engaging professor. He keeps class interesting and teaches the material well if you pay attention. He does randomly call on students to answer questions which helped me, at least, to stay focused. The case studies are very annoying but all you have to do is make them look pretty and reach the word count to get a good grade.
Professor Yanosky's class is very fair and well structured. If you show up to class and do the homework, the tests are not too bad. You don't have to show up to class but he does offer clicker questions for attendance that are helpful in learning the material. Lectures can be a little boring (it is stat) but he tries to keep it interesting.
Dr. Y is an amazing professor. I was terrified of this class (due to peer reviews), but he taught this information so well. He taught an a good pace and did reviews every class. The homework definitely helped. Tests can be a little tricky, but not TOO bad (as long as you study). Definitely would recommend him!
This class was just okay. It was tough if you had no prior knowledge of statistics.
He is so mean. This man is so full of himself and loves to make you feel horrible. He is so rude. Do not take this class. Take anyone but him.
Whatever you do, do not take Yanosky for BUSN4000 or MSIT3000. He's a good professor but does his own thing! I had him for MSIT and thought it was just a fluke but it repeated in BUSN4000. His notes are so different than the other professors (who all share the same notes) that you can't even study with friends! Take someone else!
Yanosky wasn't that bad. The tests are really similar to the homework and he posts his powerpoints online that he uses in class. He does take attendance but you also have the option to use your test average as your attendance grade instead (what I did)
Dr. Y is the best! The class is not easy if you're not into math, but Dr. Y teaches it really well. He cracks a lot of dad jokes here and there and he tries to make lectures as interesting as they can be for teaching calculus and statistics. I would 100% take him again.
I dont know why he has such mixed reviews. As long as you show up to class and study the homework questions, youre good.
Terrible teacher. Class lectures are so boring and he tries to be funny but isn't.
ive taken stat before and to me, he didnt explain things well. he talks fast and kinda expects u to know it. i think i did well bc ive taken it before. u can either go to class or use ur test average as ur attendance grade which is what i did towards the end. i learned better on my own from his online ppts than from him haha
I think Dr. Y teaches the material fine, but I really hate how he randomly calls on students to answer vague questions. If the student doesn't know he proceeds to pick on them for the rest of class. It's hard to focus on material when you're constantly worried about being called on. Tests are fine, and the TA does a good job of explaining the HW
Objectively, Dr. Y is really solid. Hes as funny as you can be in a math heavy class. He tries really hard to be relatable and make class bearable. The content is alright and at a very reasonable pace. If you the HWs and practice test youll do fine on the test. The only negative is that you cant use your laptop in class. Also at lot extra credit
He's an adequate professor. Nothing too special. He kinda got on my nerves with how he calls on students randomly because if you show up to class a bit tired and stray away for half a second you could risk getting embarrassed. He teaches the material pretty well though so that's what matters
I took this class during the pandemic and it was extremely hard. Class consisted of two tests and homework, so if you do bad on the homework, your grade is already in the gutter. All tests were on ProctorU, which was an awful service. They messed my computer up everytime I did a test on there. Overall, extremely hard class
I have no idea why Terry waits until junior year to go into calculus, but here we are. For as crappy a class as this is, Yanosky made it worse. He's def one of those "too smart to teach" people. I got the Skoolers semester plan a little late in the semester. Should have done it earlier. FWIW I hear holmes is better.
I did very well in this class, but it is by no means easy. The calculus portion for the first two months was challenging , but Dr. Y is more than willing to help. IMO the tests are actually easier than the material on lectures and homework. So if you can get the hard stuff, you will do well on tests. I took it all online bc of COVID-19.
Dr. Carlyle is a very highly knowledgeable professor, very organized and very fast paced. Tons on HW material to master. If you have taken statistics before it will be a lot easier than if you haven't. I had no stat experience and struggled heavy but got the hang of it after while. If you master the HW, tests will be easy.
Idk why people are saying he's so terrible. If you pay attention in class and do the homeworks it's not hard to get an A in class. There are videos posted to eLC that work through the hw problems if you get stuck. He also let's us out of class early most days and will joke around in class. I find him enjoyable.
Carlyle's class was completely reasonable, very easy with no reading, homework gave you multiple attempts, and exams are identical to the homework. If you show up and do your work in a timely manner it's very manageable to get an A-B
I literally spent 5 hours per week on his homework. I had taken AP Stat in high school, so this was basically a review for me but I still wound up doing poorly because of the extremely vague and hilariously long amount of homework assigned. Literally at least 100 questions per week. Take Werner.
One of my favorite professors at UGA. He is a really good lecturer and posts videos to help with the HW. He cold calls in class but doesn't make you feel dumb if you get it wrong. Tests are identical to the HW and he gives up to 2 points on your overall grade for taking a syllabus quiz at the beginning of the semester.
Structures his course differently than the other BUSN 3000 professors but I wouldn't let that scare you off. Lectures are organized and interesting. Weekly homeworks can be lengthy and tedious at times, but make up a big chunk of your grade which takes the stress off of the exams and prepares you well for them.
Carlyle is a good guy who is genuinely hilarious and cares about his students. He definitely gives lots of homework, but as long as you understand it, you should have no problem doing well on exams that are not that hard. Sometimes class would get a little off-topic, but he stuck around after class to answer questions and was kind and helpful.
He's nice and goofy but his class is crazy hard! take someone else for easier course. HW takes hours to do and never follows what's taught in lectures. You need name tags on desk and get called on daily, no tech in class. I don't recommend him unless you really love and want an extremely challenging stat course. good luck. attendance mandatory.
His lectures did not help much, but they were mandatory. I basically had to learn everything myself.
just a bad lecture kinda have to teach yourself most of the class
he's just a useless professor. good luck teaching yourself calc and regression. hope its worth it
Carlyle is amazing. Attendance is mandatory but if you don't go you would be lost anyways. If you don't know calculus already it may be hard because he goes fast. He is a very chill professor who likes to joke around, I would highly recommend taking his class.
You're not gonna like showing up to his class. I personally found his lectures to be confusing and boring. He also cold calls and gives off a bit of a snarky vibe. Don't take this class if you can't self-learn. You still need to go to his class either way since attendance is for a grade. There are better options out there.
Overall great professor. Homeworks definitely could have been shorter but they do a great job of preparing you for the exams.
Carlyle is a great professor. Cares about engaging with his students. Super helpful with answering questions outside of class. The homeworks do take forever, start at least a day early. Definitely go to class for attendance grade and to learn. Provides a lot of study material to learn from.
He is a good guy, just disagreed with his teaching style. The lectures are somewhat of a joke, cause no electronic devices are allowed so you have to handwrite notes. He also doesn't teach you the math, just explains the vocabulary words. It is a hard class, I wouldn't recommend taking this teacher but it's doable.
Professor if you read this, the no electronic devices isn't working. We need to be able to access the powerpoint and take notes electronically. Half of the class gave up on notes 2 weeks in because we could not keep up with you. Teach math problems step by step instead of showing it solved, then saying "this should be review".
Biggest issue is the lack of examples with solutions available. He goes extremely fast during lecture. Recommends printing out notes, but I don't see it being helpful given how quickly he teaches the material anyways. HWs are also long and difficult. Exams however have been fairly easy. Definitely not ideal but not awful.
This guy is awesome. I was a little scared because of the reviews and he is definitely a little intense, but he's hilarious and genuinely cares about his students. Phenomenal at teaching the content. The homeworks are long but they prepare you for the test very well to the point where you will not have to study too much.
Only goes through the surface of the material in class and it's up to you to learn the rest. HW is very long and doesn't reflect the material taught in class. Notes and other resources are organized very poorly which makes it difficult to even study for the class. Tests aren't too difficult though.
Good prof the homeworks legit take 5 hours a week though. Take someone else if you can it will no doubt be easier. Tests are light compared to HW
Here's the thing, this is a hard class if you haven't taken calc before. Dr. Carlyle's lectures are very surface level and fast paced, so you will have to put in the work outside of class and stay on top of it and not get behind. He is caring and will try to help as much as he can if you make an effort. Review homework's and practice tests.
Dr. Carlyle was absolutely one of the best professors I have had at UGA. His teaching style can rub some people the wrong way (no electronics in class, boo hoo) but if you embrace it and participate in his course you will absolutely see the rewards. Just embrace the challenge, embrace the guidelines he sets, and you will gain a lot from his class.
He is my favorite professor I have had at UGA. He doesn't allow electronics but you actually learn well with him and he keeps you engaged. Tries to actually talk with students and learn their names, is hilarious and makes class fun by making jokes. Homework is rly hard but his slides give help and he has 2 grading scales you can choose from.
100% the WORST choice for BUSN3000 if you are taking as a required course. His class is much harder than any other BUSN3000 class and does not follow same course schedule at all. Homework is impossible, goes far past what you need to know and will take forever. Other BUSN3000 classes are a fraction of the work and you are guaranteed a better grade.
Funny guy, but uses the absolute worst online homework platform imaginable. If you are not prepared to lose points over rounding issues even if you fully grasp the material do not take this class. Countless hours of homework weekly and Carlyle does not care every other section of this class is infinitely easier while it is the same on a transcript
Do not take Carlyle. His lectures are boring and his class isn't particularly hard, but his rules are incredibly unfair. On the second test he took my scantron away and gave me a 0 for bubbling in answers 10 seconds after he said time was up. He was disrespectful when I approached him to talk about it.
Take him for BUSN4000! People say he is the worst for this class but he is the only one that does MC paper test which means you don't need excel. The outputs are generated for you and that makes it a whole lot easier. Must go to class everyday to not get behind. First half may be hard if you've never taken calculus 1. Go to the HW help sessions.
Carlyle is my favorite prof I've had he can get a bad rep because he doesn't let you use computers but he keeps it engaging, has 2 grading scale options, learns students names and makes the inherently boring material pretty fun. He will extend homework if the class asks and he losens up/ starts to joke around as the semester goes on.
I really like Dr. Carlyle. He has engaging lectures, and if you just participate and engage with him, your experience in BUSN3k will be great. While the material is kinda boring, he's funny and tries to make it more interesting. He would let us out early, usually at least once a week, too. However, there is an INSANE amount of homework.
Dr. Carlyle is a very engaging lecture despite the class being pretty challenging. If you have not taken calculus before, the first half of the course will be difficult. However, the second half of the course is significantly easier than the first part. The homeworks take a long time so don't wait until the last minute to do them.
Literally a free A. HW is 40% of the grade, attendance is 10%, and being respectful is 5%. If you do all of those things there is no way to not finish with an A. Dr. Carlyle is also funny and cracks jokes during class. Take him if you can
Dr. Carlyle can seem really intimidating at first, but it's obvious he wants all his students to do well. That being said, his homeworks take many hours to complete and were exhausting by the end of the semester. He's also the only BUSN 3000 professor who gives him exams on paper.
Some people don't like Carlyle's class because of his strict no phone/laptop policy, but his paper tests are arguably easier than the other BUSN 4000 classes. Carlyle is a friendly guy who loves when people participate and ask questions. The lectures are not engaging. The homework assignments take a long time.
Carlyle is hard to read, and seems to like power in an annoying way. He is funny, but he will cold call if people don't participate and even take points away if you don't answer. The tests are easier than other classes, though. I suggest getting Skoolers, participating, and never say you don't know. At least try, and he'll be nice if you're wrong.
Carlyle has a somewhat annoying, cocky personality, but he teaches well. His homework and practice exams are just like the exam. Don't take if cold calling will discourage you from being in a class, because he will call on you.
Honestly not a bad guy he just doesn't know how to teach. All other sections get to use excel on the test but for some reason he doesn't allow it. Trust me tests are easier with excel just take it with another prof.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Specially easy class if you have taken AP STATS before. Very understanding and will explain a million times until everybody gets it. Exams questions are from the HW, and the practice exam is exactly like the exams.
He definitely is funny and enjoys what he does, I just despised going to class. No electronics so taking notes is basically impossible because he's moving so fast. I failed the first test bc I'm just not nice at calc but the second test was barbecue chicken. You can only miss 4 classes the entire year and you will get cold called so pay attention
The first week I was scared because of his rating & reviews, but he really was great. He is fun and relatable to us when teaching. Show up and do the homework, it really isnt that bad. HW is way more difficult than tests. I recommend going to reviews a few days before the test. Overall, Dr. Carlyle is a Baller. nuff said.
Love Dr. Carlyle's class. Cold calling keeps you engaged. Guys really funny and tries his best to make boring material engaging. Attendance policy was annoying but kept me engaged. Glad we were able to take tests on paper. Homeworks were annoying after 2nd test but you really didnt even have to study for tests if you took the homework seriously.
Dr. Carlyle was enthusiastic during lectures and did a good job of thoroughly explaining topics. He calls on students to answer questions at random, which can be intimidating but I ultimately felt it helped me stay engaged during lectures. There's plenty of opportunities to earn extra credit, and the exams are very fair.
One of my favorite professors I have taken. He really tries to make boring material interesting. He takes attendance but you can volunteer to do the warm up to get extra misses. Homework is hard but he has weekly review sessions, and if you actually do them well you barely have to study for exams. Exams are very fair and easier than other sections.
Professor Carlyle was a great teacher who kept lectures entertaining by cracking dad jokes. He's a little cocky, but he's very knowledgeable so I understand. Cold calling was intimidating at first, but it definitely kept me engaged and overall helped me understand the material. Homeworks were a little time consuming. Exams were just like the review
Carlyle was so incredibly scary and his laugh still haunts me in my sleep. I used to get cold called so much even though I was actively listening. I used to hate going to his classes and he never really taught the material he kinda just presented what was on the screen. However, the exams were easier than other sections because its MCQ on paper.
This class was really difficult, but getting a good grade is attainable. Carlyle does all of his tests on paper compared to the other BUSN4000 professors which I found really helpful. I failed the first test and got an 80 on the second and worked hard and did well on the final and finished with an A-. Carlyle keeps you engaged and is great!
This class is a joke, it's another really easy class that lots of terry ppl suck at. I got a 98 on the first exam, a 100 on the second with minimal studying. Yes, his lectures suck and he cold calls, but the class is relatively easy, especially on paper exams. You're better off taking carlyle because you don't actually have to use excel on exams
If you're good at precalculus and algebra this won't be difficult. Try to understand concepts behind the homework and it will help you on exams. Take Carlyle over Pope or Morse. He's funny and gives you a lot of ex credit opportunities. Show up to class it's helpful and it is graded on. Skoolers is also available if you struggle.
