Isnt a good teacher
Very unhelpful.....very confusing when teaching....Horrible, horrible, horrible......
great professor i love his way of teaching.
The class is relatively difficult but he really enjoys teaching and is very helpful.
I took O. chem. with him. It was an extremely difficult class but he had strong interest and high understanding of the subject. Always started class and hard subjects with a smile. Tests were difficult, but predictable according to syllabus and lecture material. Was helpful and had a general interest in the progress of his students Very friendly
Excellent professor. Clearly cares about teaching the material as well as it can be taught. This class is not easy, but it shouldn't be. Had to withdraw from class but would take this prof. again if I could.
A wonderful professor who gets students interested and challenges them.
I really struggled at times, but Chemistry just isn't my "thing". That being said, Prof. Clark was a really good instructor. I learned chemistry in spite of myself. He definitely knows his stuff; more than willing to help so long as you do the work and don't waste his time. Do your homework, follow syllabus.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. If you don't want to put the effort into the course, you will probably not enjoy his class (that's your own fault). Almost always willing to help and will make you think instead of just giving what you want (important). Tests are really hard but if you study like you should, you'll do fine! ;)
Overall, a very nice but stern professor. Is not willing to give out answers or even hint at what will be on tests simply because students want him to. I had him for both Lecture and Lab and while I found him somewhat helpful in lecture he was not willing to give any help during labs. If you are in a competitive program I do no recommend him.
Worst professor I've ever had. If you're able to teach yourself everything and/or spend all your time in the tutor lab then take him. Otherwise, DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He is not helpful at all actually and can also be very rude.
This is a one of the worst professors I've came across. He is unwilling to help because he knows his stuff and excpect u to know yours. would not recommend him for a chem 100 level. I withdrew.
He's not only the best professor you can ever have but he's also your friend! He will go above and beyond the call of duty to teach you the mysteries of resonance. Don't fret, everything will be t-butyl OK. However, if you are a toad who wants to get by with minimal amounts of work then yes take this class because you will fail and be culled :)
He is a very strict professor but is good at what he does. He does expect you to work hard and put in an effort and can be slightly condescending if you don't. Overall, he is a good professor, but be prepared to work hard.
You can't really say a professor is bad when they would literally go over the problems with you on their own time as much as you wanted. Dr. Clark will do just about anything to help you, but his style is more of a "help you help yourself" type rather than just give the answers. Assigns too much homework. Chem is generally a difficult class.
Dr. Clark is one of those professors who really tries to prep his students for coursework beyond HACC. After his class, I started in a doctorate program and my Org chem knowledge was on par with my peers from Berkley. Work hard, go for help if you need it and he will go above and beyond to make sure you succeed, not just now but later.
So unbelievablly hard! You can not slip through, you can not even study and excel. Organic chem must be your life in order to do well. Now if youre an average person, study like your life depends on it and you will pass. Good Luck!
Learn everything yourself, because he uses the Socratic method. Does not answer questions, makes simple things extremely complicated and difficult. His workload is comparable to taking 12 other credits. Extremely demanding professor, wants you to be perfect. don't be surprised to hear, "you should know that, or it's the book" when you ask ???'s
Dr. Clark is great. He gives a lot of h/w but the h/w is for your own good because lets face it, Chem is tough. He is very helpful inside and out of class, but he won't just give you an answer, he will help you figure it out. If you study, attend class & lab, & do the h/w you will be fine. A lot of the problems he does in class are on the tests.
Suggest not taking Dr Clark for a summer course. On-line h/w is 3-5 hrs a night not including pre-labs, reading and studying. Professor is unhelpful in answering questions unclear in most of his lecture and appears frustrated when students don't know the answer. Took this class to learn chem, but was made to feel like I should already know it.
Would not recommend Dr Clark for a summer class. Very difficult to follow in lecture and he is not willing to take time to clarify. He also will not answer questions but instead replies with a question. Homework consumes 3-5 hours every night. He may know Chemistry but does not know how to teach it well. Take another professor if possible!
Avoid taking this guys class at all costs..he may know chemistry, but he definitely cannot teach it to people who don't understand it. He barely teaches during class, expects you to read in the book and teach yourself. and gives way too much online homework.
I had Dr. Clark and let me tell you, it was HORRIBLE. I don't even think horrible is the word. He was very condescending towards students but mostly he was nice. He also doesn't answer questions and will get frustrated with you. I worked really hard and still had to withdraw. Will not recommend him, it was very frustrating. Too much homework also.
Dr. Clark claims he is there to "guide" you rather than teach you. I very much enjoyed Chemistry in high school but absolutely hate this class. He spends the entire class on 1-2 problems and argues with students when they have questions. He also goes on random rants about how he doesn't appreciate being told we don't understand his teaching.
Hard but fair. You will have to study. You will have to do homework. He is willing to help you outside of class. He will not tell you the answers but will help you figure them out. Outstanding Professor! College is not a free ride work hard and you will learn.
I learned alot in this class, but I had to study hard...this class is tough. Professor Clark uses a different approach and encourages self study. If a student is not willing to spend the time stuying they will not succeed. A good grafe is possible, I am the proof.
I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot.Nothing is for free in life and if you want to succeed in this class you have to study. Chemistry is not easy and needs practise. As more you are willing to do as better you will be. I liked the class and I think that Professor Clark is very fair when it comes to test grading.
Dr.Clark takes chemistry very seriously and expects a lot out of his students. If you do not take it seriously, or if you are just looking to get through the class to fulfill a requirement and don't care about the subject, then don't take him.His exams are difficult and require a lot of preparation to do well.He will help you out in any way he can.
I'm taking this course now. In order to succeed, read the chapter covered before class. The book is a great resource and lecture clarifies any questions that may arise in your studies. Homework and studying takes about 3-5 hours every night. If you take your academics seriously, you will succeed! Prof is humorous, intelligent, and attractive.
According to the prof. this is pretty much a self-teaching course. For those of us who are not planning on being Chemistry majors, it is a tough subject to self teach. He is very fast-paced and expects you to read and study ahead so he can quiz you on new material rather than teach it to you. If you are into self-teaching this is your prof.
Dr. Clark expects a lot from his students, if you do the problems how he shows you in class you'll do fine. He assigns a lot of hw& expects you to do the readings before to be prepared for class. His tests are fairly easy, straight forward, the more work you show the better. It's been 5yrs since I took a chem class but I also was pretty good at it.
unorginzed, ineffective teaching, course consumes more time than needed because he teaches so little, he got the book order wrong he is a caring man but not a good teacher avoid at all costs
He's a really cool guy with a good personality but he's just awful at teaching. Be prepared to teach yourself. Also, he calls on people randomly and puts you on the spot. Tests are rediculous. I recommend choosing someone else.
Dr. Clark expects a lot from his students. You won't succeed in his classes without putting in a lot of work at home and reading the chapters before class. But if you actually do the work you will learn SO much from him. Overall, his are some of the best quality classes that I've ever taken.
worst academic experience of my life teacher is useless, confusing, obviously does not prepare for class, we completed 7-8 page lab reports and he never even graded them, he got our book order wrong, would frequently wander away from the subject when asked a question, poor instruction in lab and lecture AVOID AT ALL COSTS
He has high expectations for his students, and really expects you to have read the chapter before coming to lecture. You will do well in the class if you keep up with the reading. His lectures can be a bit confusing, but he is more than willing to clarify if you come see him during his office hours. Expect to put a lot of time into this class.
Absolute worst professor I have ever taken. Very inconsistent, condescending, and not helpful. Seeing a tutor for 3 1/2 hours a day, you would think would set you up for succeeding. Not in this class. He would not answer questions, chose favorites, and the workload was insane. We were told to take a leave of absence from work. That is ridiculous.
By far the WORST professor I've ever had, might as well not even have a professor for this class. He does not teach ANYTHING. Always says ask questions, when you do he doesn't even answer them. If you don't ask questions he won't teach it. The h/w is only 5% of the grade and its the most work. Workload is unrealistic. Book teaches you, not him.
very useless professor. He is the worst teacher ever, try not to take his class as much as possible. I took him for organic chem and i had to withdraw from it,now i have to go all the way to lancaster to take the class because i need it for my major. NEVER TAKE CLARK'S CLASS!! Absolute waste of time
Worst class ever. If you enjoy teaching your self this is the class for you. Expect to read the chapters, go to class and be quizzed on the chapter, then have him put a problem on the board to solve with out ever having him lecture. If it were not for the chapter quizzes I wouldn't even show up for class. I would just show up for test days.
Dr. Clark is an excellent Professor. Don't listen to what these other reviewers have to say. If you're not prepared to do the work to pass the class, you shouldn't take this Professor (or maybe shouldn't be in college at all?) He expects you to read the chapter before class so he doesn't have to spoon feed you the lesson. Do that, you're golden.
Great prof! Well organized, patient, and enthusiatic! Dr. Clark's HIGH expectations are on par with profs at the university level. Make the effort to read the text, do the homeworklabs, and pay attention you'll do just fine. On exams, he is generous with partial credit - show your work. His course will challenge you but you will learn so much!!
Professor Clark is a fine example of what college level instruction should be like. He is enthusiastic and masterful with regard to chemistry. You want someone like him to help make your investment in your education worth while. He exercises your study ethic with thorough use of the text book and online tools. Very supportive of his students too.
Toughest classes Ive had at hacc. Most rewarding too. PUT TIME IN BEFORE EVERY CLASS! You will come out the other end as a better student. I truly believe no prof cares about the (overall) success of their students as does Dr Clark. If you are willing to work, he will help you. Challenge yourself! Five chili peppers ;)
Yeah don't take him. Assigns full chapter reads but will only lecture about one itty bitty section in the chapter. Nice guy, but her needs to find a differenct career path. Maybe teach elementary kids. Calls you out and makes you feel dumb when you ask questions.
AWFUL!!!!!
I would strongly advise against taking this course with Dr. Clark. Overall he lacks in getting the content through to a majority of the students. He fails to deliver during class time. Minimal examples in class. Not clear, even when questioned. Five exams is a lot considering content. If you take him(don't), you will understand what I mean.
People seem to love or despise his classes. During office hours he could be somewhat helpful. Having a high school chem teacher as a neighbor was what saved me. Learning the mechanisms instead of trying to memorize them was the key. I did attend class, mainly because there were unannounced quizzes. I don't think it was worth the headache.
Organic is really hard, but Dr. Clark is a solid professor. He elaborates on the stuff he assigns as homework. Lots of work, but that's no matter where you take it, or with whom.
He is not fond of students who ask a lot of questions. He doesn't explain things at all but expects you to understand what is being graded.
Dr. Clark's class is hard, so be prepared to work. If you are having trouble he will always go the extra mile to help you as long as you are willing to do the work. He's one of the best professors that I've ever had. As long as you do the work and ask questions, you'll do well.
Clark's a good guy & a good professor. He very specifically gives you everything you need to be successful. If you take his advice for granted, you are making it worlds harder on yourself. I recommend taking this class with only one other class; or stupidly easy ones. Read and do homework & you'll look like a pro in class. Takes practice2learn.
Taking him for a blended chem course is awful. He provides no lecture notes/videos. Everything is self taught. His teaching style is rough. He randomly calls on people and puts them on the spot and he can be condescending. Youll work for your grade in his class. He completely clear on labs before they start; he wont answer questions after they do
He hype's up the class in the beginning of the semester then fails everyone after the 70% withdrawl deadline.
This guy is great. He is a strict professor, and many students hate him for that. If one does his part in this class, he will, most certainly, succeed.
Took only this class during the spring and found if i was taking any others i would have failed. Put in 30+hours a week. He does not have a clear grading method and gives different points to different students for the EXACT same answer. Self taught and he briefly reviews info in class. In the beginning it seems great but i would avoid at all cost
At the beginning of this course, Dr. Clark strictly told my class not to resist his instruction. It was a must to take the time to learn a lot of the material on our own. People don't want to put college level effort into a college level course. Having high expectations for students shouldn't be frowned upon. Put in the effort to succeed.
Beginning of class he was specific as to what was expected of us. He treats everyone fairly and his grading reflects on that. He does curve a lot of our quizzes and is willing to help any way he can. It is a really tough class but if you do the work then you will be fine. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TUTORS!!
Definitely a tough grader, but as long as you take the time to read the material and ask questions to ensure you understand, then you should do fine. Very detailed grading criteria and there is a chance to correct exam mistakes to earn a higher grade on exams.
Organic is hard, science is hard, get over it. I got As in both semesters. Prof did an amazing job of guiding us to develop skills needed for harder courses. I didn't pay attention in class and rarely went, but I did go to office hours, read a different text, did practice problems to make sure I had an UNDERSTANDING of the subject.
Daniels expects that you have done your homework before class, and know the material. He will ask you obvious questions which, if you didn't do the reading, will make you feel dumb. That is NOT his intention. He means well, but can come off at times as arrogant (he is NOT arrogant). If you want an easy A, drop. If you really want to learn, take it.
Dr. Clark is an absolute legend of a professor. He worked out days so that would could come in and study for the ACS final with him. If chemistry does not come easily too you be prepared to see him outside of class with MEANINGFUL questions. Make sure you beware of the daily pop quizzes.
Worst Professor Ever! If I had a biggest disappointment in my life, it would be his class. Never take it. He picks favorites and keeps you over class. While his exams, don't even bother studying, you'll still fail. You'll get less than a 40% for each exam.
Terrible professor. You will fail every exam. He is disrespectful and rude. 2 quizzes each day and he requires you to know the material before class starts. If you need to pass the class, take someone else. If you dont mind failing, and listening to him tell you how to be a good student, take him. Stay away, trust me
did not provide the homework on time causing the amount of work increased dramaticly. bad due day for many works
Dr. Clark is a great teacher if you really want to learn all about organic chemistry and feel great about it because you get to do a lot of work and feel proud that you got those hard concepts. I learned a lot from him that I will always consider valuable. This was the hardest undergrad class but it is worth it.
Dr. Clark really enjoys chemistry and has little patience for students who don't. Required reading and quizzes on such every class. He requires that we ask questions during class but either belittles the person asking or answers the question very unclearly. Forced participation and calling out are very common. Suggested for science majors only
Dr. Clark is the worst professor. He cannot teach. He expects for you to read a chapter in the book and fully understand the basic concepts without him even mentioning them in class. If you want a professor who actually teaches, and doesn't post crucial grades the last day of the semester, avoid him at all costs.
Worst person ever. He offers no help at all! His classes have no structure and he is very unorganized. Every person in my class no matter their grade hated his class. AWFUL!! His labs are even worse. He expects you to be an expert and he does not explain anything in lab. Your best bet is to ask a fellow student for help. Stay Away if you can.
Winter courseabsolutely terrible choice. 15 weeks of exams, quizzes, labs, discussions, homeworks in about 4. Hes a good teacher but doesnt really get to teach you over break! Make sure you study hard and really give it your all. Prepare to commit like you have never done. Hardest class Ive ever done. (A full semester may have been easier).
Be prepared to self-teach yourself because he doesnt give lectures and goes over 2-3 questions from the homework. I would get help from your classmates or the tutoring center because he doesnt have time to help. If you dont speak English that well, he talks to you like a dog and gets frustrated when you dont understand.
By far the worst professor at HACC, maybe ever. Very condescending and calls you out on the spot and when wrong, he makes you look like a fool. He has no powerpoints, and only reviews quizzes after taking them. Be ready to learn on your own because he is terrible at teaching. He is not clear on anything and does not provide help in lab.
Surprised he still has a job. Unfortunately, he is the only one that teaches Organic chemistry here. Switch to Lancaster campus if possible
Dr Clark refuses to teach fundamentals, which ultimately leads non-chemistry majors to struggle immensely. Hell tell you he doesnt have time & look in the book. He bashes Khan Academy, but they actually teach the material. His teaching isnt clear and he cannot fully answer a question if he didnt prepare to answer it. He should not be teaching
Hands down the worst professor I have ever had. Don't take his class unless you plan to devote all of your time and reject all other classes to finish his assignments. He does "flip learning" which is when he quizzes you on lecture material before lecture! His grading system is ridiculous. Highly discourage taking his classes.
Clark is mediocre at teaching. He generally spends long periods of time to cover little content, so you have to learn most of the material from the text rather than lecture. On the upside, he's very generous with being available even outside office hours sometimes. And don't forget to draw all lone pairs and heteroatoms or your grade will suffer.
Class taken for a summer term; Dr. Clark means well but is not the ideal professor. Prepare for daily pop quizzes on your reading, a very tough and specific grader, and unorganized. A majority of my lectures and labs were going over 5 question quizzes. Concepts and material were left in the air and it was up to the student to study on their own.
Clark is a truly awful professor. He's super condescending, never actually teaches anything, just calls on everyone till someone answers the question. He expects you to come to class for that day's lecture with question from the chap but quizzes before he "teaches." If you can take this at another school, you should, esp if you are pre-med.
Rarely returns graded work. Will not provide progress report so you never know where you stand. Constantly changes his mind on assignments. Not be able to review/use previous tests as study guides since he doesn't return work on time. Will not explain how he graded your work. Beware! You could easily fail and you would never know. Be prepared.
Professor Clark is very tough. It is the hardest class I have ever done. Though he is a tough grader and gives an overwhelming amount of work, he has my respect. Go to his office hours, especially if you are struggling. I needed a required grade for a program-he recognized this, told me he wanted me to succeed and I did. He is there to help you!
The worst Professor in the world, he sets you up for failure. You basically have to teach your-self, he doesn't explain anything. He just complaints that the college wants do remote teaching to save money on heat, he is miserable and will make you miserable too. I don't understand how could HACC has him as a Professor, PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
Prof Clark says he loves teaching.... well he should love something else because he is not very good at it. Tests look nothing like we discuss, so much homework, and he doesn't teach about what we read at all. Except he will quiz us on it before he talks about it. PLEASE PICK ANOTHER PROFFESSOR YOU WILL LEARN NOTHING FROM PROF CLARK
Worst prof i have ever had hands down. You get what you pay for at community college and that is certainly the case here. He does "flip learning" which is normally when you learn skills before class then discuss them. But he doesn't even do it right, as he is too lazy to acctually teach. In lab he just's sits on the computer and doesn't help!BEWARE
Tough professor, dry humor, otherwise a great teacher. Has reasonable expectations, is prepared to help if you have shown an honest independent attempt at tackling material (you are an adult learner right?) PRIOR to reaching out for help.
Just to clarify, the comment below this one IS DANIEL CLARK. He is upset bc of low rating and 90% drop rates. Does not teach at all and wants you to learn solely from the textbook. You can count on one hand the amount of times he was able to explain something correctly. Socially awkward and posses nervous tendencies.
Nice, smart & I believe he wants student to succeed. However, his teaching style doesn't match that goal. Attempts a flipped classroom, which isn't inherently bad, but doesn't lecture on material or have PowerPoints. He expects 99% of your learning to come from reading 60 textbook pages weekly. Most students dropped. Not hard just poorly structured
Don't ever study with him! He's the worst professor I have ever studied with. He won't teach you anything. You'll have to study the whole materials on your own.
This man was the most frustrating professor I've had. He spent the begining of the semester complaining about another review here calling him lazy. He is in the way he already knows the contents and does not put in effort to teach. You must teacher your and offers little help other than telling you to read. DO NOT TAKE CLASS! SAVE YOUR MONEY
He will use your nerves to get you to learn. He will teach by telling you why you are wrong. Which, does get results of learning, but it is only because you want him to leave you alone. So, he will get the info across to you if you are open to it, but most of what you will do is teach yourself. I find him a bit rude honestly.
He can be frustrating, as he will prioritize learning over personal comforts to a degree. Like, he will call on you randomly. He is someone you need to talk to. If you talk he will listen. I would recommend him to anyone who is independent and a self starter.
This professor was the worst. I was expecting Chemistry to be hard in general but he made it even harder by not teaching at all. He made us read the textbook and do homework problems and said that we should be learning that way. He will get mad if you ask him questions about anything too. Don't bother going to office hours either bc he wont helpyou
Professor Clark is wonderful. Yes, he will call on you randomly but it was a great way to learn. He cares a lot about the subject and is always willing to help. He tries to make as many office hours as he possibly can to be available for you. He uses the textbook, which I found helpful. He is a really nice professor. If you need help just ask!
Professor Clark was amazing to have for an instructor. He can be disorganized and even tough at times but his overall goal is for you to learn chemistry and to succeed, both of which he did for me. I was so close to dropping his class after getting an F for my midterm, but he encouraged me to stick with it, to keep going, and it paid off.
Organic chemistry can be a challenging class, but Dr. Clark certainly made it feel easier. There's a lot of homework, but most of it is extra credit (his "pop quizzes" are extra credit, too). He also grades all of his tests on a decent curve. He genuinely cares about his students, and is always there to help as long as you make an honest effort.
You have to read the textbook to get all you can out of this class. Yes, you should read the chapter and the reading assignments do help a bit. Homework is designed as a practice test. Have a basic understanding of the topic before the lecture so you can ask great questions to deepen your understanding. Very sweet, and passionate about the subject.
He started the class unprepared and unorganized. He gave a boatload of homework and reading each week and can be awkward at times. I tried emailing him about schoolwork and he responded with an ignorant answer. He didn't seem to accommodate for my physical needs. I've connected to almost all my Professors in the past, except for him.
Dr. Clark is a very good teacher who is always adapting his classes based on what helps students the most. Lots of homework, but almost none of it is for credit. As long as you're trying your best, he'll go above and beyond to help you do well. Fair grader; often drops and/or replaces grades whenever possible in order to give a better final grade.
Do not EVER take a class from this man. It will be a waste of money and your time.He does not help you with questions and he will belittle you in front of the class, expecting you to know EVERYTHING! Beware of post lab quizzes, they contain content never taught. He 100% lacks empathy and cannot be reasoned with. You are on your own. Worst prof ever!
This is a continuation of the last review. He will belittle you if he feels you if you don't understand the content and usually just brushes if you off if you consistently have issues. He answers your questions with either snide remarks or questions you would have to understand the content the answer which you already don't. Don't take his class.
All my professors have cared about my performance and ability to understand the coursework related to a class except for Professor Clark. When a question was asked during a lab, he would respond with asking you a question back (which isn't answering the original question). More than half the class dropped it toward the end of the semester.
Dr. Clark's class poses challenges with dismissive responses to inquiries, leaving students to seek external help. Lab instructions are unclear, contributing to a high dropout rate. Mandatory program purchases for "optional" homework added frustration because it was added to final grade. Half of class quite: instructor struggled answering questions
I purposely took this class to help get me ready for chem101 and I don't think I learned anything to be honest. The test in my opinion were unreasonably hard and the professor wasn't helpful at all and he didn't really teach in class, we were told to read and teach ourselves at home. He wasn't good professor. I would never take his class again.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. You end up teaching yourself everything. The tests are difficult, which is expected, but they weigh so much that one bad score is hard to recover from. He explains things poorly and responds to questions condescendingly, often with another question that doesnt clarify anything. Not worth your time or money
Professor Clark comes off a tad dry and bland but he really does care about his students and his classes. He is willing to answer any questions but will often ask YOU questions to guide you towards the answer you are looking for. Do not let other reviews sway you too much. If you are a competent student who is willing to put in the work you're ok
Clark is truly a horrific professor. Nice guy, but terrible at actually teaching a class. He meanders and struggles to teach basic concepts in a clear and concise way, causing unnecessary confusion.
If Clark is the professor, understand that means that you are taking a self-taught course.
