Mr. Freeman is a really chill person. The class at times get a little dull but if you keep yourself engaged you will be fine. You have 5 essays and some mini assignments. He is a really great professor because he LOVES learning from his students. He is ALWAYS willing to help and loves to interact! he is great and highly recommended.

The best class I've ever taken so far. Even though what we learned about was pretty random, it was still alot of fun and I gained alot of knowledge about current events. I never found myself bored in that class.

his a good teacher. yes you do learn random facts in that class, but he keeps the class interesting. although the assignments in class are random they do help out with english some how. and he seems very chill and laid back. i'd recommend him!

Mr. Freeman is a cool teacher, he is young and can relate to students. He is laid back, gives four essays which you can write anything you want. He is into underrated films which are cool because it gives a sense of what to write about. Remember 214 is mostly Am. Lit. Freeman is awesome that his classes are not in sync but it all comes together

Dan is my hero. Coolest guy I've ever met, and I seriously spend all of my time waiting for the next class with him. Three times a week isn't enough. Very smart, very funny, and very interesting. Class is basically one big discussion with 5 essays along the way and a few quizzes. He's amazing.

omg, this teacher is one of the coolest people you will ever meet. not to mention he is the swaziest. must take him. he is full of great conversation and doesnt require a textbook. he does require a reader which has a totally awesome cover like no other teacher. Freeman rocks.

Took Freeman's class for Eng 214 & 414...what a great class! He keeps the discussions interesting so students are more willing to participate. Allow students to write about anything for the essays. Take his class if you want to avoid boring english classes!

I am currently taking Mr. Freeman's class. I can not recommend this class high enough. He teaches in a very philosophical manner often digressing into random questions that engage the entire class. My first day in his class we talked about a shape on a clock for the period, I LOVED IT! He is amazing. Hint: He loves the DASH (--).

I left SFSU because I didn't like the school, but I seriously miss this guy every day. I took one of his classes and nearly changed all of my plans to transfer when he asked me to take his class next year. He's wonderful and he makes an impression. It's been a year and I still miss him, haha. Take his class--you won't regret it.

Great teacher who lets us write on any subjects we want. This makes it easier for people who have trouble with topics that are picked for them. He's a really chill teacher who is a good listener. I recommend this teacher if you are a good discussion person.

Great teacher, one of the best I've had in my entire time as a student. His class is more of an discussion forum than a class room, if you have to take Eng 114 or 214 then Daniel is the teacher you want. Over the course of the semester he made me like attending class. Dan is amazing!! His classes are so much fun and you will never go a day without laughing extremely hard. He gives you 5 essays which you can write about whatever you want. He is open to any kind of view point and will not judge. Highly recommend him!! =)

Although I felt somewhat like Dan's class was structured as simply a nudge out of the cocoon of ignorance, it was one of the funnest nudges I've ever experienced. Most often his comments on your essays will encourage more DEPTH, and be pretty lax about the grammatical fixtures. He's like the best kindergarden teacher ever, except for college.

Freeman was the most bad ass person I've ever met. His class made me want to learn, and he's a very intelligent man. This class is chill, you get five essays and you don't get prompts. You also have in class essays and test on grammar. Basically best class ever!!!!

Dan was AWESOME! It's like going to class and talking with one of your friends about random things for 50 minutes. One of the best teachers I have ever had. Very fun class. It may seem like all you do is talk about random things, but you actually can take a lot from the conversations and most of the discussions make excellent topic choices for your papers. Fun, relaxed class. Very helpful guy too if you need it.

The chillest class I ever took in my life. You basically just go to class and talk about whatever's on Freeman's mind the entire semester. He is so funny and intriguing - I loved it. We only wrote 3 essays and they can be about ANYTHING you want. There are also about 5 grammar quizzes but they all should be automatic As. Freeman for President!!!!!!

Not a lot of learning.Mostly basic grammar, but they help if you don't know any of it. REALLY chill teacher.Every class is a discussion class and he makes it fun and interesting.We had in class quizzes(grammar) with an in class short essay. We had 4 essays, but only had to turn in 3.1 group presentation.He canceled class to let us do registration!

Since he allows you to write five essays on whatever you want, he increases your creativity and confidence in your own writing. On the other hand, since he grades more on content than form, your writing might come out making just as much sense as it did when you came in. That being said you take this guy's class, his passion is contagious.

freeman is an awesome guy, interested in his students, always talking about interesting subjects. you really get involved in his classes with everyone giving their views. essays graded hard, but hes looking for a creative writer. some quizzes throughout too. surprisingly fun class

Great teacher. Really cares about grammer though. The class is really fun. Not alot of reading but a lot or writing. Only four essays and a few quizzes. One big project that you can literally do on anything.

Dan is THE man. Haha. Class is super laid back. You learn alot about how to spruce up your sentences. 4 papers(4-6pg/any topic you choose) few quizzes.. one presentation on ANY topic. Cares about his students. TAKE HIM!

DAN IS AWESOME!! You NEED to have him as a teacher. He's a total bro and super easy to get along with. No homework, no textbooks, but you have to write in a notebook all semester, write 4 essays on anything you want, give a presentation on ANYTHING you want (no guidelines) and lastly 4 quizzes and thats it. If you love to talk, take this class!!!!

freeman is amazing! when I was a freshman coming in, i was****ting bricks wondering wether or not my english teacher was going to be really hard. But i can guarantee if you take freeman, he'll rock your world. haha. he's hella cool and will usually keep class interesting. class consists of 4 papers, 4 quizzes, and an individual presentation! :)

CHILLEST CLASS YOU WILL EVER TAKE. No textbook! Class consists of 4 papers(on any topic of your choice), 4 quizzes which are straightforward and one presentation. The only problem people had with this class was his somewhat harsh grading on essays but I can honestly say my writing improved this semester. Go to office hours, he's very helpful.

Dan is a cool teacher, helpful, and super funny! You should take this class! You have 4 essays of your choice and one project. The class is straight forward, but he grades hard on the essays.

AWESOME teacher. All we did in class was have discussions; interesting topics are brought up, and a ton of different views are seen. This class really makes you think about life. Your grade is based on weekly journal entries, an essay/quiz a month, one presentation, and participation/attendance. Highly recommended.

Class was never boring. 4 Essays in the semester (Get help if you need it by going to tutoring and/or office hrs) Not too hard just write in your journal, essays, and one presentation about anything you want.

Cool guy. Wonderful teacher. Great mentor. I am glad I took his class. I was able to once again enjoy writing and see my potential as a writer. Dan is the man. In all seriousness though, he is a brilliant professor. One of the few people around that authentically cares about future generations and is teaching to make a difference. It shows. He gives you faith in yourself and the world through his topics and your own writing. Brilliant. Will never forget his teaching style or personality.

He will help you with any problem you might encounter in class, and your creative insight, your true potential will actually be exposed because in class your juice in your head will be used A LOT! but in a very good way. Single most effective teacher I have ever had. More personable than your mom, and funnier than your best friend. I loved every second of his class and thoroughly enjoy catching up with him now-a-days around campus. My writing visibly improved with every single paper. One of the best professors i have had on this campus. He is funny, smart and open to anything. He encourages you to be you and will push you to be better. loved this class! Take it! You don't need a text book and you write papers on whatever topic you like, so long as its a "sparkling A paper". Which you will discover what that means to you.

My favorite teacher I have ever had. If I could take his class for every year of college, I would. Really funny and asks questions that make you think, but in a good way. Freeman was by far the best teacher I've had at SFSU. He actually made me want to come to class. He's a hard essay grader but it makes you want to work harder. Definitely would recommend everyone to take him!

Freeman was my first college English professor and he made me change my attitude towards writing in the best positive way ever. He doesn't limit your creativity to the typical borders of essay writing but he also challenges you to become a better writer and I loved this class. Even though it was at 8 in the morning, it was still worth it. TAKE HIM!

Don't take this class just because you heard it was 'easy'. Sure you can do the bare minimum, but that will reflect on what you grade you will get for the semester. That being said, Mr. Freeman is an awesome professor and his lessons are always interesting. After taking his class, I definitely improved on writing. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

You must have this teacher! He has expanded my writing/creativity. You'll learn more about life in this class then any other class. You can write about whatever you want & you get to hear your peers opinions/views/feedback. Freeman is a great teacher! He is extremely laid back and open to any and everything. He pushed all of us to be creative whether it was making films or writing essays. He has few due dates and all you have to do is something creative(write a poem, take a picture, write a story etc).We had optional group work and a lot of sharing our work in class.

He's honestly one of the most inspiring professors you'll come across at SFSU. After finishing this course you'll not only be a stronger writer but a more motivated and better human being. He does grade papers hard but if you go to office hours he's very helpful.

He teaches to expand your consciousness, to help to you grow and challenge your critical thinking abilities, to support you in discovering your artistic gifts, and to encourage you to become an engaged and vocal citizen. He is there to teach you and to hear your voice, but only if you are ready and eager to learn.

Use creativity and talk to him if you're having trouble. He's understanding and genuinely cares. It is all about your effort.

Dan Freeman is the man. He highly encourages creativity and his assignments are generally rewarding if you put time into it. Group discussions feel like casual conversation and topics vary wildly. His level of sarcasm can often go over people's head sometimes, but generally he is funny to most students. I wish he offered more classes.

If you want your easy A you have to attend class and participate. I completed all the assignments and attended 80% of the classes. I received a B because I did not talk as much as the other students. I would say one thing in each class and he still gave me a B. He wont tell you what grade you will get so it is kind of confusing.

He gives amazing lectures. He's very friendly and easy to talk to. Loves when students participate, makes lectures relatable to everyone. Very inspirational! I definitely would take him again if I could!

He is so understanding. If you miss class, just talk to him and he'll most probably understand. He doesn't give quizzes, just a bunch of really cool creative projects. I took him twice for two different classes and I passed both with an A. He's great.

This was by far my favorite class for my first semester. Freeman is inspirational, he's great, and he's understanding. He helps you become a better writer. We free write, have interesting group discussions, and his class is just overall quite amazing. I loved going to his class it was the perfect end to my day. TAKE FREEMAN.

freeman is a homeboy of the highest level and definitely my favorite professor so far. if you want to learn rigidly about english and nothing else, maybe don't take this class. if you want your mind expanded to the farthest corners of the galaxy then do it... class is completely centered around discussions and encouraging critical thinking.

This guy is very chill, he wants you to talk and be part of the discussion everyday. If you want to learn about general English (grammar and such) dont take this class. This guy wants you to think out of the box and to engage with the class. Would recommend this guy.

Freeman is not just an incredible teacher, he is an amazing person and truly cares about his students' success. He takes the time to develop a relationship with each of his students and really pushes them to strive to do their best. If you participate in his class and show him real effort, you will pass with no problem.

I was a student at SFSU in 2012. I left after my first semester & now attend UCSB. I was thinking about my time at SFSU & remembered what an amazing and inspirational teacher Freeman was. I wouldn't be the writer I am today without taking his class. I recommend everyone take him, I was genuinely excited to go to his class. He's truly a great guy!

BEST CLASS I EVER HAD. No lie, I had no class come close to this. This class will open your mind, change your viewpoints on life, and get you thinking about things that you haven't before. In all my years of taking english, I always dreaded taking it. But ever since I took his class I actually have a greater understanding of what teachers go through. He is the most down-to-earth man ever. If you ever need help, please please please go to this man. Tears were shed so much throughout this class, realest english teacher ever.

This class will be tough, but trust me when I say that this is a class you absolutely must take, and a professor you absolutely must meet. Freeman allows you to be passionate and even vulnerable for all of your essays and projects. Essentially, it will not be about what he wants you to write about but what you want to write about.

Absolute legend. Hated English through highschool, but his has been my favourite so far. Assigns 2 easy homework assignments a week. Classes are discussion based and he creates a really safe, inclusive environment. One of my favourite teachers, definitely take his class.
