He was a jerk. BUT if you listened to him, did what he said..... you got an A. I did. He taught at Placer HS.
If you want to learn how to write correctly, take Galloway. His style is direct and to the point. Listen in class, do exactly what he asks you to do, and not only will you get an A, you will write well enough to get A's in all of your other classes!
This man has a horrible attitude and is a jerk. I did well in English A and in this class my first paper he failed me. He does not like the writing center nor views other services helpful. Hannan is excellent and allows you to correct and resubmit your paper. Don't bother with this jerk!
he's very clear, and he's easy in terms of grading. if you do what he says you'll have a high grade.
He was very direct, and interjected some humor into his class. Don't be discouraged by a horrible grade on your first paper (everyone fails the first one). Just concentrate on eliminating the things from your writing that he says he really hates. Keep your writing simple and it will be easy after that.
This is tough and he is an ass but you learn what he wants but the last paper. Four papers total and that is your grade. He knows what he wants and that is the only way to get a good grade.
Funny teacher, very direct and to the point. If u want to actually know what you're doing, take him!
good teacher. funny. 4 papers makes your grade. I learned a lot, and I would recommend him to anyone
Great teacher! i learned a lot in his class. it was entertaining. people (like that guy who called him an ass) might think his honesty may be too harsh, but it's actually very helpful. my advice for future students: do as he says (literally). then you wont have a problem with his class.
I didn't like this teacher... I worked very hard on my research paper just to get a C without any explanation why.
ENG 1A - EXCELLLENT teacher! not easy work but all worth while! this class will definitely help your writing skills. i would recommend him to ANYONE!
I have never done poorly in english but he failed all my papers even though i fallowed the guidelines and turned them in on time. Making an honest effort is NOT enough to pass this class. His writing style is NOT creative at all and makes for very dull essays. He let's you out early and your only hw is four essays. I really don't recommend him.
you're not allowed to write the words "It" , "Was", or "Seemed" in your essays or you fail. He grades way hard and even if you try your best you may not pass. His essays were dull and he grades down creative writing. DON'T take this class. He makes it clear in the beginning that he's only there for the extra money.
This teacher is very rude. Not helpful or nice. His topics for papers are not exciting. Has a VERY specific way of writing he likes and if you do not follow it he fails you.
I learned more from this class than any other english class ive taken. He is very clear about what he wants. If you pay attention and stick with the class, he will do what he can to help your grade. Dont be intimidated by his demeanor.
Pay attention, don't take anything personal, and expect to work, and you will do great. He is all bark and no bite so don't be scared. He style is very clearly standard edited english. I enjoyed this class very much. I worked hard and received an A. This is not a class for someone wanting an easy A, but this is school, remember? I recommend.
He definetally scares you at first..but as the semester progresses you realize he just has your best interest at heart. tough teacher but wants you to pass. makes his expectations very clear and is overall pretty funny. i loved his class, dont listen to the downer stuff on here!
VERY helpful english professor. i would recommend him to anyone. i originally took English 1A w/ Frasier, and that was such a mistake!! Just do EXACTLY what Galloway says, and you will do fine.
He is a cool teacher and knows his stuff real well. Have to work hard to get your grade, but it isn't hard. HIghly reccomend him.
I never missed a class, and never worked so hard for a C. Actually, it's the only C I've ever received.
Maybe the guy could try being a little nicer. Not belittle.Use encouragement as a tool. Allow for some limited personal expression. This not boot camp - don't stomp people before you build them back up. Perhaps he is going for the biggest jerk on campus - in a small man's body. I'm all for grammer, but let's keep a little personal style.
i would defintaely not reccomend this class. he has his own writing style that is impossible to understand. dont waste your time with him. i am a straight a student. i am very good normally with english but i attended everyclass and did all the hoemwork and essays and he will barely give me a c. .. everyone in my class right now barely has a d ...
Galloway is an aight teacher. I got an F on the first essay, and still passed with an A. Just do as he tells u and you will do fine. Don't listen to the poeple below me, there just sayin he sucks becasue they cant write for crap. Beleive me, an A is manageable.
do not take his summer class. way too hard. he is a jerk. made me feel like i didnt know anything. had to write a paper after the first day. got a d. really really hard!!!!
Horrible teacher.
Amazing teacher, he is hard - but you learn a ton! You realize how horrible you wrote previously-but leave the class with A writting. I loved this class his teaching is invaluable! Take this class if you want to learn how to write! And he is fun he rants and raves about grammer very funny!
Mr. Galloway appears to have a huge chip on his shoulder about life in general, and takes it out on his students. He treats his college students as if they are his highschool students and does not seem to care. He demands perfection from your papers but is to lazy to correct his own syllabus and handouts. STAY AWAY!
horrible teacher, failed everyone's first essay and told the 10 PEOPLE HE HAD LEFT that they were going to get B's. he has his own teaching style and treats his students like children
He is a very rude teacher and put me down in front of the class because of my disability (hard of hearing). He puts everyone down and made people feel like they were stupid. I would NOT recommend
Ive never despised one teacher so much in my entire life. He is an awful teacher who lives for making other people feel stupid. Don't ever try to prove him wrong because he will rip your head off. Stay awayyy!!
Not bad, you just have to do what he tells you and you will get an A. The class is hard, but you will learn a lot. This was my first college class and I'm a dummy. I got an A and an A in government from using what I learned in his class. SERIOUSLY JUST WRITE HOW HE TELLS YOU TO WRITE!!!
He is an awesome teacher. He is honest about your work and doesn't stroke your ego nor does he need the affirmation of his students. Mr. Galloway critiques you how professors should, so you can excel in classes when you have to critique yourself. If you take his class, be prepared to learn, and listen beyond the loud lectures and theatrics. Enjoy!
Looking back at this class, I would say it was hella easy especially with Galloway. Wow i was lucky. Do what he tells u, guarnenteed A. I got an F on first essay, and still got an A in the class. Take him.
Honestly, if you carry yourself respectfully and are a good student, Galloway will respect you and the class is a breeze. Pay attention to his instructions; it's only the people who ask questions he's aready explained who get sarcastic remarks. His sense of humor is uncommon, but very enteraining none the less. Take him.
I took Mr. Galloway during the summer. We had a good class. He was very helpful; I had to turn the final paper in late--no problem. Said he changed his grading policy to help students more. I used average effort to get an A. Take him, you will like the class.
Great class. Learned alot especially about research papers. Good, personable instructor.
Great teacher. I learned a ton in this class. Very helpful and a great sense of humor. I would take him again!
Great class. Learned a lot especially about research papers. Good, personable, instructor. Stays after class to help students.
Very helpful instructor. He even called me when I missed 2 days from flu to encourage me. I write more clearly now.
Wonderful teacher. Teaches you exactly what you need to know to be a clear and concise writer.
I took the class last summer. Great time to take this instructor. Laid back, good pace to class. Learned about good college writing. Take him.
GREAT TEACHER! I learned SO much usefull info. and his teaching style is very effective. His strange humor keeps the class fun :)
Best english teacher ever! Let me repeat that -- he is the best english teacher. My 2 week hit off wierd getting used to his style. After that it was a piece of cake. The guy gives you like 3 weeks for each essay, and you do a total of 4 essays. He take the best three best essay scores and lets you rewrite one of that 3 two get a better grade.
He is an amazing teacher! I took it during summer and he is super laid back. He gives you like 2 weeks to do an essay. You do 4 essays and he takes the best 3 and you get to rewrite one of those 3. Class is super easy if you follow his directions. He tells you what he wants in an essay and if you follow it and attend class, its pretty easy.
Terrible teacher! He comes to class give u few short notes which dont even help and then expects you to do everything perfectly. He is rude and acts as though his students are all stupid. Stay away from him if you can
I was told by a student behind me in his class that her aunt is a professional writer and she proofread her paper. Galloway's grade = D
Just about have this class finished up. Great Instructor, has personal conferences with each student to show what they need to change on last research paper. Only counts last three grades. Students who complain must have dropped or something, my classmates were happy with the class.
not gonna lie. this class was hard! took a lot of work to earn an A. not a slacker class. write in your journal everyday. participate. spend a lot of time in the writing center. hes a really cool nice guy, approachable, but incredibly picky about the writing. be prepared to work HARD of you want that A
He's amazing. It is a some what difficult class you have to put effort into the papers but he gives you all the tools to succeed and all the feedback possible hes extremly laid back and understanding and never drags on with class. I love how long we have to work on papers. Best teacher i've ever had
TAKE HIM. I'll remember that class for a long time to come, he rocks and takes you back to basic, conventional, and undiluted writing. Its a little hard to adjust but SO worth it.
He was a great teacher. His sense of humor and ability to relate was phenomenal, and he teaches you how to write "Clear and Concise" remember that phrase. All in all my favorite english teacher.
Toward the beginning of the semester he was really nice and I enjoyed him, but as it progressed he became frustrating to listen to because his whole class was a giant rant about what we were doing wrong. He's not the worst teacher ever, but don't take him if you have other options.
This class is super hard. You learn about active language, showing not telling, and he's a stickler for grammar. You absolutely learn a very helpful writing style which will be handy with other college admissions essays, and your thesis. (Depending how much college you take) He's a good teacher but the class is hard, do not expect an A.
The teacher is tuff and a tuff grader. Most people do not get A's. The class will be cut in half by the end of the year. With that said, no other teacher at Sierra will teach you how to write good, clear, concise papers and english better than Mr. Galloway will. Very good teacher if you can learn to write his way.
He is not everyone's cup of tea, but he is definitely not a horrible teacher. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not your class. He is such an awesome guy! One of the greatest English teachers I have taken. Very challenging class with high expectations but it's worth the push if you want to continue to higher educational goals.
My first core class in 10 years and I found it pretty easy. Four papers due during the semester. Galloway was humorous and helpful.
professor galloway is super clear cut & down to the point. he is funny, efficient & helpful. go to class, pay attention, you will become a better writer for it. absolutely NOT an easy A class. 4 essays (last one is a research paper), allowed one rewrite (out of the 1st 2 essays) . dont buy the longwood reader book, check it out in the library.
Mr. Galloway is a great English professor. He is a very relatable, approachable, and respectable guy. Not to mention his great sense of humor. If you want to pass this class with an A, ask lots of questions; his feedback is helpful. Also, make sure to complete all 12 journals before the last class to get full homework credit.
He is a great teacher! There a four papers. The first two are very short. The last one is a bit longer as it is a research paper. The only homework is a journal entry from the book you read. Do the work and you'll do fine! He is a really cool guy.
Professor Galloway is a genius professor! He will help you with just about anything to help you succeed. I took his online class and he still help me tremendously. He is not a professor to mess around with though. As long as you turn in your work on time and try you will get the grade you want!
Great teacher, everything is organized from the start and written clear. I took him for 1A and 1B. As long as you do the work on time and follow directions you should be A-okay.
Took his ENG 1B class online. Easy A. Engaging material. Don't cut corners and you'll be rewarded in the grade department. Highly recommended prof.
Typical online class. Journal entries and discussion Qs mostly every week. He has a particular writing style (for example wants only 4-6 sentence paragraphs.... which is so short). A little tough to get used to. Not terribly difficult just kind of annoying. 4 papers throughout semester, read 1 book.
Four papers in total -- three 2-3 page essays and one 6-8 page research paper. Turn in all four papers IN PERSON on due date. The class is challenging, but he is very clear with what he is looking for. DO NOT plan on being absent the week after a paper is due (most important lectures on these days). Professor Galloway is very fair. Just do the work
Will give you a lower score on assignments and essays not for doing it wrong but for not doing it how he would picture it done. Grades harshly on essays.
I took his class online and it was almost impossible to understand the criteria because it wasn't specific enough. Then when I'd message him through Canvas asking questions about an assignment, he'd get back to me last minute or after the assignment was due! Would not recommend.
The clearest English teacher I've ever had. Tells you exactly what he's looking for in the papers. I spent about an hour or two working on his papers each week. He's lenient on turning stuff in late if something comes up, and will talk to you if you need clarification on something. Also allows essay revisions for a grade bump.
Not a terrible hard class per say, but you will get lower grades for not writing exactly how he envisions the writing to be. The assignments are clear however the grading is based off following instructions exactly (like paragraph size). No room for personal expression or how you want to write even if done properly.
Professor gives you every opportunity to redo an essay or project if you dont do well on it. This professor understand that life happens and he is fully willing to work with his students to help them pass! Always able to contact outside of classroom and values student-feedback TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Cool teacher, did an awesome job of Working with me to pass his class. I say take the course.
I hate english but he made it fun. I passed with a B when I usually BARELY pass english and I think its b/c he really worked with me to correct errors.
Great professor would take again!
Decent guy, expects you to deliver exactly what he asks, but will work with you of you tall to him
Follow his directions and turn in assignments. You will pass. Thumbs up!
Very good teacher, he lets you out early, never cancels class. His essays are a little difficult and grades harder as the semester goes on. Would def. take class again.
Excellent professor took him for 1A and 1B if you show up to his class and do everything he asks you will easily get an A.
Lots of reading, but interesting topics. Really enjoyed the first few papers, but the research paper was tough. Did not love to topic, but ended up following his instruction and got an A. Make sure you are ready to read a lot and write a lot! He is helpful and will answer questions you have.
I took this class one year out of high school and forgot a lot about how to write, but this class teaches you how to write properly. We didn't take a single quiz or test this class is all essays. I got an A on all my papers because I listened to the lectures, came to every class, and stayed after for feedback. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR THE ESSAYS.
By far the easiest English class I have ever taken. I don't think we ever stayed for the full class period, he always let us out early. I also don't think he ever used a rubric when grading, the grades were always pretty random. The assignments were not very hard, and as long as you show up and participate you should be good.
I took his eight-week online class and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It is time-consuming as you have to do a lot of reading (which I enjoyed) and writing (not so much). The research paper was a lot of work, but he has clear expectations and easy to follow. No extra credit, but I didn't feel it was necessary. Overall a great teacher!
I took this teacher in person last semester and now online again because I liked him as a teacher. As long as you follow his essay writing style exactly how he says he wants it even though it is weird, you'll pass. Just do the work and you're good
I took Prof. Galloway's online summer class and really enjoyed it. I was easier than I expected if you read the instructions. The essays are a little unconventional, but I actually found it easier to write it this way. We did lots of online discussions, which were easy, and then some journal entries about the readings. I overall recommend.
Has a lot of work in general. His grading is rough but reasonable. Wouldn't necessarily mind too much if I had to take him again, id just have to mentally prepare my self for all the work I was going to have to do.
Took this class online over the summer. Not bad, but he does grade essays pretty spot on. But don't let that scare you, his journals and discussions are fairly easy points if you do the work. The hardest part is the final essay, its a research paper but he gives clear instructions on how he wants it. Also, GET THE TEXTBOOK
I'm taking this guy's class right now, and let me tell you... I have never in my life had an English teacher this bad. He does not give you any feedback what-so-ever, he is random as heck, and there is so much reading. Other than the essays, the class is pretty easy, but the essays ruined it for me. DO NOT RECOMEND
I hated his class. The class discussion boards felt like therapy. He gives no feedback at all! I will not be taking a class with him again :)
He made you get awkwardly personal in discussion boards and I don't feel like I learned anything. He also is not specific on grading criteria and doesn't give good feedback on assignments.
Mr. Galloway was really phoning it in, as they say. Seemed checked out, seemed like he was recycling old video lessons for us. Monotonous/bored voice. Ya know, typical English teacher. Otherwise graded fairly. Was more concerned with form than substance on all papers (of which there were 4).
I took him for 1A, and 1B. He taught me how to write concise, proper, and with confidence. He seemed like a strict grader w/ papers, but I learned quickly as a result. If you do the assignments, and you put effort into your papers, you will do great. If you don't care to improve your writing then he may not be for you. Thank you for all you did!!
Galloway's assignments are so hard to understand, instructions are unclear, and every student seemed confused about what he wanted in the assignment. His feedback doesn't make much sense and seems generic. There are four required papers for this class and the last one is hard.
Very clear on how to do the assignments, a fair grader, and gives fun readings and assignments. He also gives you a choice in the reading choices.
