The man looks pretty strange, but damn is he good. He's good at lecturing, he takes it fairly easy on his students, and he's friendly/funny too. You'd be a "baaaad boy/girl" if you didnt takeh him.
take his class if you want to learn!! easy grading, great tests, great lectures, awesome math teacher this coming from a student who can't stand math!!!
He should teach in elementary school, he ruinned my math life. His lecture is Not clear at all!
he's a great teacher, math is my worst subject and i got an A in his class. he's fun, and gets the point across.
Absolutely the best math teacher I've ever had, he makes his lectures fun with his impressions, quotes, and intellect. I usually find math extremely boring and confusing with previous professors, but with Gallup I never want to miss his class. A+ rating!
One of the most understanding and easy-going professor ever. he is not fussy about small things like being tardy once in a while. extremely helpful if you are having hard time. A+!!

While he is a nice and likes to joke and all...but man, he cant do math. Lectures are awful and unprepared. While His test isnt hard, but his test topic came out of no where and does not follow the textbook. Good person, but his teaching method is subpar.
best math teacher EVER!!! easy exams and easy class.
there are better out there, believe me!!!!
He is a nice person, always there to help his students. But his exams come are unrelated to homework problems, so doing all the homeworks are not enough. Sometimes his lecture is very confusing.
Good guy. Will help anyone and everyone. His class is somewhat hard but compared to the rest of the Math teachers in this school he should be considered easy.
goes crazy with proofs. Be careful with this one. He's super nice and cool, but be ready to work hard, REALLY hard.
He's a great teacher. But he's not the best teacher in this field. Crazy w/ proofs. Just try to keep up w/ him is hard. Tests are hard, and curve is STUPID. But i'll definitely recommand my friends to take his class!
He is a wonderful teacher. I took one of his class @ Cal State LA before I got into Nursing School. I was a foreign student from Brazil at that time and his lectures were fun and easy to understand.
Every test 80% of the class failed. He really wants you to do his homework. his tests are completely off. comes off annoying and weird. He curves his tests alot but it doesn't help when he didn't teach the subject. One good thing, wont get a lower grade then ur what you get on ur final!
horrible writing, even the answer key, disorganized, spoil those "smart guy"
Wonderful teacher. Energetic and with a good sense of humor. Sometimes goes a little too fast in lecture and likes his own problems better than those on books (but he will give you his 'favorites' prior to his exams)
goes eally fast, not easy at all, majority of the class failed tests, but helpfull if you asks questions. if u fail all tests but get an A/B/orC on the final he will give u that grade overall for the class. -Not an easy A class!-
IT's hard to take note! cuz the writing are not clear, tests are hard, have to study hard and maybe get a B. I took his class during summer, 2/5 of the students dropped/failed. I didn't stay either. overall, a nice guy but give students hard time.
He teaches VERY fast.Likes to use his own notes, which are heavy in theory. His tests are hard as well. But a very friendly and personable fellow.
DONT TAKE HIM, YOU WILL BE REGRETTED
i took a dump in his class and he dropped me! i couldnt control it!
fairly good teacher. He's very approachable and a really nice guy. He does want the homework done and the tests do follow his homework. also he has all his old tests on file in the library. HE REUSES LIKE 88% OF THE PROBLEMS. you could literally have seen all the problems prior to the test.
Grading is too strange: you know how to do the problem but calculated something wrong, you get 5/10. you don't know how to do but tried, you get 5/10. he does curve, but people still get low grades.
nice guy, but his classnotes are extremely confusing and he likes to go through the material FAST. take his class only if you're commited to learning most of the material from the book by yourself.

No one knows what he's talking in the class.
He gives a lot of practice tests and you can learn from them. He also writes a lot of handouts that explain more things for sections. He's a very good professor although he has a hard time pronouncing Chinese names.
the worst teacher ever at pcc. 85% students failed on every test. He does not know what he is teaching.never take him.
Nice, merciful,super approachable.
Nice guy, but a terrible teacher. Lectures incomprehensible, grading strange, tests poorly written - said grades would be no lower than final exam scores, then wrote a horrendous final which everybody bombed (and planned it poorly so everybody's exam time was cut short as well). You can see why he never got his doctorate. Take Chaffee or Socrates.
very sloppy and disorganized... can be a very funny and nice person, but cannot multi-task his responsibilities. He made my summer into hell.
The worst Calculus teacher in PCC. confusing in lectures and talks about 5b & 5c more than anything else. says it's ok to do the probs wrong in hw but takes a lot points off. jumps steps in lectures 2, you'll have a hard time to keep up with him. 90% students who go to tutors r from his class.
He is a super nice man, but he does not know how to explain things to the class. His teaching style is only condusive for the naturally brilliant people. He skips a lot of steps, and his tests do not reflect what he does in class at all!
worst.professor.ever.
Mr. Gallup is a real nice guy, he helped me for M5C/10 even though he wasn't my professor. He also wrote my recommendations to private schools. His teaching is ok-good, as long as you understand his methods you'll be ok. Make sure you get his practice tests from the library and do them. Got an A in his M5B Fall 04 class.
when young asian foreign students can correct him all the time and teach him better techniques then it is time for another teacher. don't be too optimistic around him.
Nice guy, but bad teacher. Explains rarely the good stuff and the tests can be totally different (including the finals!)
I don't know why people do not do the sample exam which are free in the library. I don't know why they got a bad grade but not doing these sample exams. I did and got A easily. The exam was ALMOST the same from the samples. He might just change some numbers. 9/10 questions you can find out from the samples.
He doesn't know how to explain things. When he doesn't understand the materials, guess who get the punishment? Students! If you ever care about your GPA, don't take him. If you want to keep your interest in math, don't take him!!
He is an ok guy, his humor is a bit dry, however his teaching is out in left field. yes he does go easy on the students, but he shouldn't have to if he teaches them the material well enough. Very scatter-brained in his teaching. oh and his writing is terrible.
this guy is hilarious. i was so comfortable talking and joking around... everytime he explained something hard... i'd go this is "crazy".. i made rude comments and he laughed it out. this guy is generous with grades. he gives us sample test that are almost identical to our test. it was an easy class that i should have taken advantage of...:)
Take it from me, there are better out there! His lessons are for those who have a strong foundation in Math. Tests are SO HARD, A LOT of proving.. Even though there are sample tests, they don't help since he keeps changing them! I spent half the semester crying.
dont take his class otherwise you would regret in the whole semester. his test is extreme difficult. plus , he doesnt teach much, he demands you to study by yourshelf. furthemore this guy really means with those students who not smart in class. trust me dont take his class.
All I can say is that he is the worst professor I've ever had. The students complain to each other about his teaching. He tends to make mistakes during his lectures & forgets the material. I say find another teacher to save yourself some trouble. I learned more from going to math tutoring than paying attention to his class.
Really good professor. Even though he's so hard, he prepared u well for the math career. You would learn a lots from him.I felt so good for taking his course. Just do the pre-test and the HW, then u should be fine.Strongly recommend to the students willing to learn
good professor, an easy class if you pay attention to his lecture and understand all the homework questions he assigns, otherwise, don't expect to get a good grade
this professor completely ruin my life! even though i work so hard, and study hard myself...his test just totally out of the points from book! He doesn't know how to teach, and his notes is super messy, plus, he give your grade depends on his mood. =(
I didnt feel quite the same as the previous comments, maybe he improves. He uses his heart to teach and he try to explain things as clear as he could. The test wasnt 2 hard, lots of ppl are getting A be4 the final. Exams are similar to the previous exams which he will give. Really a great professor! Read book, do HW then you'll be fine!
Good teacher if u want to get good at math. Tries to teach beyond the book. Tests are hard but he tells you what to study grades on a curve. Sometimes he interupts questions and answers something else so u need to be assertive and descriptive if u need help. Easy A if you study.
totally charmed by his personality, but totally speechless about his teaching style-- be ready to read alot and teach yourself all the stuff
nice man but honestly does not know how to teach.. test are nothing like the HW and he doesnt really go by the book... dont take him.. gives to much HW which is useless since his test are NOTHING like it,if anything the homework is just a waste of time..
I took this class becuz his class is the only one Math 5C class in the summer; however, I could not handle it, so I drop the class at the end. Even though he is a nice professor, his teaching style is horrible. Don't take his class unless u are very good at math!
He gives the hardest tests ever. I seriously study all the material from Math XL and book and I still bomb tests. He will make each test tough and look like a surprise. If you want to get straight A's or all A's, don't even think of taking this class at all. You will regret it.
He's a really nice guy, but he'll fail you with a smile on his face. I study so hard and I'm maybe getting a C. Prior to this class I had all A's in math. He gets very distracted and is unfamiliar with MyMathLab, which is used in the class. If you must take him, be prepared for a low grade no matter how good you are at math.
Everyone is rating low nowadays lol. Hes not a bad teacher, he tries his best and teach you more than you need but thats the problem. He teaches you more than you even need wasting time for the main stuff. His class is always unorganized so its different everytime.
This teacher literally wasted my time this semester. I study all the Math Labs, the book and the notes and still failed. He made everything seem like a big surprise for the test, seriously.
This teacher is so unfair, he gives attention to A students and he doesn't do a damn thing for struggling students.
This guy should be fired for wasting other people's time.
This guy does not know how to teach a single class, he is so disorganized and whenever you study for his class, all his tests become like a huge surprise. You won't learn a single thing from this teacher.
I seriously am disappointed at this teacher. He gives so much attention to people who are getting an A in his class and he lets struggling students struggle. He enjoys pounding people with 50 math problems every single night and making all tests based on stuff we didn't even learn from. He will literally drag down your GPA greatly, don't take!
Also, I must say, this teacher made me dedicate 90% of time for his classwork and I studied every single thing including notes, bookwork, Math XL and bombed all his tests because he inentionally loves to make everything a big surprise. This man is evil and loves to wreck everyone's semester. Btw, 1/2 the class dropped this teacher in the beginning.
This teacher is like literally the professor from hell. He thinks everything is a joke and he acts like as if he helps you, but if you study everything (include notes, Math XL, bookwork, etc.), he will test you on none of the things there and he will literally screw you over. Take this class if you want to get a 1.0 GPA for your semester.
Be prepared to work endless hours each and every night for this class. If you are taking 2,3 or 4+ other classes, be ready for this class to consume 95% of your time in the semester. This class is like a death sentence/torture.
This class is too darn hard! This teacher will literally kill your semester. He creates tests on stuff based on things we didn't learn and he pounds you with 60 problems each night. I was suffering so much anxiety from this teacher to the point I would sometimes fake sick. He tries to make it seem as if he is helpful but he is the total opposite.
This teacher also tries to hard to be too funny, but he is not cool. He also gives an impression that he is there to help you succeed but in reality he likes to screw over students. His teaching methods are downright to evil and I had to work my tail off for absolutely nothing.
This guy literally destroyed my academic career and nearly put me on academic probation.
This teacher takes fun at humiliating people academically. This guy is not for the faint at heart.
worst prof in pcc. don't know why he is still teaching. unfamiliar with the materials, and tons of homeworks. tests are hard hard hard. attendance is not mandatory but be prepared to be humiliated in front of the whole when you show up next time. grade is based on fianl exam. lots of proves in exams.
I can't wait till this teacher gets fired from PCC for nearly destroying my academic career. I felt like I worked my rear end off in this class literally for nothing. This teacher likes to literally screw people over especially on tests.
I warn people to be careful of this guy. You have to be a Math Whiz to survive this class. If you work with the Learning Disabilities program or are an average student, he will ignore your needs and only give attention to foreign students from China/Japan/Korea. He acts like as if he cares about your grade, but he likes royalling screwing people.
Took his class during the winter, and stopped showing after the 2nd week; too fast and compressed. Beware, his writing is very messy and his teaching style, haphazard. The proofs also did it for me in this class, and Professor Gallup is not clear in his explanations, always wondering how Dr. Socrates would of gone about doing a proof.
Stay away from this teacher, this guy likes to screw over students with weak foundations in Math. He is ten times worse with students with learning disabilities. He is also quite hypocritical claming that he wants to "help people get good grades."
Shame on you Gallup! You pick your favorites and you make struggling students struggle even more. You need to stop teaching and quit ruining other people's academic careers!
Looks like he hasn't changed. I took a Calculus class with him in the 1990s and he was never helpful to his struggling students. He always played favorites and would often return test results in order (highest first) just to belittle those with lower grades. Well, I'm happy to say that I'm doing pretty well in my career and it's no thanks to him!!
I took a short summer math class with him and it was intensive and a lot of work. But you can get an A as long as u try. He's not a bad teacher and actually care about his students. On the first day, he might try to scare the students a little but he just wants to let the people who's willing to work hard to be able to add the class.
I really enjoyed taking his class, got an A. He is flexible on the Hw. His tests are not hard as long as you take notes and do Hw. The final test was sort of long and not so pleasant. But if you got an A on your final, he would give you A as final grade, even though you had Bs or Cs on your previous tests. He is nice and fair and very helpful
nice teacher!! Take his class :)
Take him. i took math 9 with him, he gave tons of extracredit. i mean TONS, and if the whole class do bad on one test, he will replace it by the next test grade. If you go to his office hour, he will go over what the test is going to look like, and help you solve the problems, and these problems he gives you is basically the test. JUST TAKE HIM.
I don't know why Prof Gallup has so many negative comments. I took him last fall and his class was great! He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Participate and he gives extra credit and also helps you understand the subject. He's also pretty funny. Take his class!
Basically, He's a nice old man. But a bad teacher I dropped his class a few weeks in. Take someone else.
Easy grader, but he just can not teach at all. He tries to be understanding and helpful. Take his class if you want to learn calculus yourself but have a easy professor to grade.
do not take this class. He mumbles alot and does not explain clearly. he will deduct points from you if you dont do it HIS WAY. i learned from the book and still i only managed a C cause the last ifnal was extremely difficiult. in simple words, you cant understand crap and put on a stage for the test that you cant understand or know how to do crap
I took his PreCal class. His lectures were very clear. Now I teach math courses myself at a college, and I use his lecture notes instead of the given textbook because his methods and examples are darn good.
When i first came here i wasn't too convinced in attending that class but he is a great instructor. Gives online homework and he is always welcome to explain what was not understood. Attendance is not mandatory but helps not to get get lost. Test reviews are exactly what u will see on the test. Great teacher!
DO NOT TAKE!! Before 5A I did math path for precal(Which was difficult) but this guy took difficulty to another level. He cannot teach and tests are extremely difficult and usually nothing like the examples given in the book. Also he doesn't tell you your grade until after the final.
Teaches outside the text, which is good and bad. Good because you get a broader perspective, but bad because it makes studying confusing and disorganized. Did not spend a lot of time introducing the basics because we fell behind, and went straight to example problems. Recommend reading prior to lectures, and familiarizing with complex numbers.
I'm very thankful to have had prof. Gallup as my 5A math professor. He went out of his way to be helpful to me and bent over backwards to help me when I went to his office hours after class.
If you attend his office hours, there is no way you can fail his exams. He has a great graphing method, and even if you completely screw up through the semester, he allows you to redeem yourself on the final for a passing grade.
If you are lucky enough to need a class he is teaching, you better take him because he is the BEST math professor at PCC. He is a nice man, and is genuinely caring towards his students which is rare to find. Just make sure you go to class, do the homework, and if you are struggling, talk to him, because he will go out of his way to help you!!
Gallup is amazing! I've never been really good at math especially when it comes to parabolas and graphing functions but he taught it so well that I passed with all As and Bs. He really cares about his students and he makes learning so enjoyable. I would definitely have him as a professor again and I highly recommend him!!
He is there to help you, but he teaches SO SLOWLY. We were always a week behind where we should have been. When he finally taught enough to get us caught up he expected us to do a whole chapter's worth of homework on MyMathLab in a few days. Avoid taking him at all costs.
He does teach a little slow but it's only because he wants to make sure everyone understands. Cares about his students and will take the time to each every single person in the class, but you must ask for help when needed! Will let you make up the whole semester with the final..
He is very helpful. Makes sure you understand the lesson. Gets stuck sometimes but he still seems knowledgeable in the subject. He does anything he can to make it easier for the students. Kinda funny too, Wish i could take him again.
He is nice
Expect a self study. He will teach you nothing. He makes so many errors and is very unclear.
Honestly, the WORST math 131 professor I've ever had. Avoid at ALL costs. Doesn't reply to emails regarding important class situations, unorganized, and rambles often about irrelevant course material.
He changed lol. Was an easy A if you understood the "hints" he gave, which meant he told us what questions would be on the exam. Easy A. If you were in math5b spring 2016 you'll know what I know HAHA ;)
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! A NIGHTMARE CLASS!
Not the best at teaching. Jumps from one section to another, jumps straight into questions after teaching theories without proper elaboration on formula. Sometimes give old exams as practice, but final was brutal, only gives old exams as practice, yet no solution to them and is different from the exams he gives throughout the semester.
CALC 5c is TOUGH of a course, im an a/b student and i struggled so much! I have a good relationship with all my past math professors, and they all say this calss is tough even for an instructor. Gallup is very caring and available in office hours, and usually after too! Great man, professor, and all around person.
Calc 5c is a monster prepare to study! Professor Gallup makes himself available to students more than any professor I have seen in my 3 years in PCC. If you want to pass and get a good grade, keep at it, and ask for help, he will help you as much as he posssibly can without doing the work for you ahahah
Real nice guy, easy to approach. His teaching style however, is not great. Methods aren't made clear, and spends a lot of time on applications you'll need in higher level math classes. However, if you are good at self motivating and teaching yourself a topic, you'll be fine. Tests aren't too difficult, and gives extra credit for participation.
I don't recommend him. His tests are short 5-6 Q, but half of them you've never done in your hw. He gets off-topic a lot by talking about concepts of the topic from later chapters. Gives extra credit by answering questions on the board. Has a thing called "late bloomer special" where whatever grade you get on final test can become your final grade.
Like other people commented, he is a really nice guy. However, it doesn't mean his teaching method is also great. His materials are very unorganized. The thing that I really hated in his class is that he skip little steps, which it will be so confusing. If you are first time taking course like calculus, probably not him. You got to be very good.
He's very forgiving with test grades and many of his test questions are off of his previous exams which he posts on canvas. As for teaching, his files are unorganized and he can get too caught up in a single problem, but when he's not stuck up on the problem he's not bad at teaching you the material. There's no excuse to not pass his class.
Been teaching too long. He does care, but he's too far removed from today's learning zeitgeist. He's completely disorganized, tech illiterate; chooses questions on the test HE finds to be interesting, as they might require a 'clever' trick to solve. Problem is, we're just learning and he's mastered it. Only full-time students will pass.
He spends too many times on a single problem, but he's really caring of those who he thinks won't pass the exam.
I've read a lot of comments on here and I feel as they are either outdated or given by very salty students. It's a normal math class so yes you should do all your homework and study a lot. But come to the Math Center! Prof Gallup is amazing 1 on 1 and essentially gives you most of the test questions up there. He's also extremely caring. Must take!!
Really great teacher. Not the best lecturer as he is too caring and if one student doesn't understand he'll wait for them to get it. However if you work together with him outside of class you'll do amazing in the class. Very caring and passionate and has office hours all five days of the week. Truly dedicated to the subject!
If you don't know the material that you'll be "learning" in this class, you shouldn't take it. Gallup is a sweet old man, but he's not a good teacher. I don't think anyone in our class learned anything. I really would advise against taking this class, I wouldn't want him as a teacher again.
Soft grading, and nothing he demands is too strict. You can turn in the homework late. He provides material online that covers everything on the tests and then some, but you should be fine with just HW to study. The caveat is only take him if you're self-motivated. If you're lazy, you'll just take advantage of him and not learn.
He is a nice person, but a horrible teacher. His lectures are useless and he gives so much hw. He gives extra credit, and allows you to turn in hw late. If you struggle in math DO NOT TAKE HIM! You will regret it he barely explains and makes you feel stupid if you didnt understand the first time. Over all just dont take him.
Mr. Gallup is the best. He is so knowledgeable. I wish I could take all of my math classes with him. When a student asks a question, he gives answers in complete details. He really cares about his students. If you have any question, go see him during his office hours. He is really kind and he will help you until you understand.
I dont understand why Professor Gallup has all of these horrible comments. His expectations of students are very reasonable and the workload was moderate. He even gave extra credit and allowed us to turn in homework late. If you have any issues with the coursework, he is so great about helping you. He really cares about your success. Take him!
Absolutely terrible. Submits hw grades @ end of semester so you don't know what your grade is. No drop tests. All tests were take home tests but then the final was timed which doesn't make any sense. Many people needed more time cause they got used to tests being taken home. Ridiculed me for taking my time during the test in private chat. Horrible.
Do not take him. At least for Math 055. This guy seems like PCC handed a random old guy diff eq notes written by as drunk man and told him to go teach. He makes no sense. His notes have frequent typos and mistakes so you cant learn well from them. His lectures are just him reading notes and getting confused himself. If youre in the class goodluck.
