This class started off really great. Then as the weeks went on by, he started to get into more of his personal life than the class itself. It really is an easy class. Exams are basically know your grammar. Great person, not sure about his teaching methods.

Only book you "need" to buy is Filipinos in SF (even so, we didn't use all that much). 4 quizzes throughout the semester, all scantron & fill in the blank. Good grammar is only needed for exams. The class itself is easy going, and not stressful at all. The only real "work" is the 10 page paper due at the end of the semester.

i would recommend. his jokes are a bit off, but i personally liked them. listen to everything that comes out of his mouth and review ilearn. not much to it. i like his match the answer styled quiz; the answers are all given so everything will have only one answer and if you get one wrong chances are you have 2 wrong unless you reuse an answer.

Awesome professor! He knows his stuff and his memory is incredible! Really nice guy, he seems a little intimidating at first but he's chill. Only 4 quizzes and puts up the study guide online. 4 short written assignments due online as well. The book isn't necessary, he puts up short summaries of the key points online. Take this class!!

This class is very unorganized. It wasn't necessarily a hard class, but Gonzales does not really teach in class. He always talks about himself in class. Way more than Asian American studies. His iLearn page is VERY VERY VERY unorganized.

VERY unorganized. Says he's going to post the quiz online one night and ends up posting it three days later. He's chill, but you won't learn much. Not really an easy A (although it's definitely doable), but definitely an easy pass.

Yes, he is unorganized and he goes off topic a lot, but he is an awesome professor. Only assignments are quizzes (definitely listen to the audios) and short answers (none above 300 words). The only thing I didn't like was how much he cared about participation. That - was from never participating, so try to say something once in a while!

Gonzales is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about his field. That being said, this was the most frustrating class I ever took at SFSU. He was disorganized, arrogant, consistently late, and condescending towards the students. If you are into the subject, I recommend this class, otherwise, I urge you to run!

This guy is so damn pessimistic. He constantly just talked about how our generation is completely screwed in the future, and never really mentioned the things we could do to fix it. Super unorganized, I didn't learn anything in this class. An easy pass, but I don't recommend taking it if you're looking for a class worth taking

Gonzalez was involved in the strikes at SFSU in the 60s, and that's basically what he talks about for the majority of the class. Lectures can be boring and usually off topic. However, that aside, you have about 6 online open note quizzes (5 questions each) you take, and two 250 word essays. (no final) Go to class, take the quizzes, and you'll pass.

Professor Gonzales is a hilarious guy, participation weight heavy on his grading system. Ty to speak more in class will definitely help, it is around 23% for participation. He gave online quizzes, no homework and finals. I wont say his class is hard, but you do have to attend class and go to his office hour. He is helpful and nice !

He's fun, real, and knowledgable. But lectures can be all over the place, it's because he's telling a story from his past experience. Quizzes and exams are online, open notes, 1 big project due in the end of semester, hand raising gains points. If you have questions abt anything, go to T.A. first, heshe will be more on track. Do your assignments

Most of the time he'll ramble off topic and talk about something you THINK won'be bee on the test/quiz so you zone out only to find out that was actually on the test/quiz. He's pretty boring if you're not into politics. I mean, he knows what he's talking about and is actually passionate about it but he just talks waaay too much.

I took this over winter session. The work is very easy, 8 forum responses, 3 very short and easy essays, and 4 quizzes (7 sets of 5 matching statements). My only issue with him was that he rarely gives notice of when things are made available on iLearn. He may post a quiz one afternoon and make it due at noon the next day. Check iLearn often.

Professor Gonzales' lectures drone on for what seems like days. He gives next to no real assignments and bases the majority of your grade on class participation and group discussion. Quizzes are easy, and the final paper is not difficult, but even if you were to get all As in these two areas, no participation C+ or lower.

I had high expectations for Prof Gonzalez- but I became really drawn out of his class as the year went by. Class time was very repetitive....I'd show up to class and hear him lecture for half an hour but there really is no engagement in the class. Assignment are easy to figure out but I didn't learn anything or took anything from this class.

Try to participate even if it's once or twice, ever. He gives you credit for trying. Quizzes can be passed if you've listened to lecture and have the common sense to match so it's a sane sentence. Short essays are straightforward, follow criteria exactly. Check iLearn often (use ctrl-f to find stuff easier). Rambling was nice to listen to sometimes

Ilearn website is EXTREMLEY difficult to navigate. Didn't give feedback on grades until last month of school. Lecture not informative. He expects you to know things he hasn't taught you. Sat through class everyday unaware of what we were being "taught". Wastes time going off on irrelevant tangents, then rushes though his lesson last 10mins of class

This class isn't difficult. There's 10 group discussions, 6 online quizzes, and 2 analytical essays. However, your grade also relies heavily on participation which makes no sense when the class is 100+ people. His ilearn page is a complete mess (just like him). It's very confusing to follow and he doesn't give any feedback. Bad teacher, easy class

Extremely liberal to a point that he won't hear other perspectives. If you talk in class he might feel personally disrespected. Taking into consideration the extremely disorganized iLearn and unstructured lectures, I do not recommend this guy.

Gonzales, despite being organized is a very intelligent and passionate guy who counts on his students to change the world. Attendance is mandatory. 6 quizzes given, and one big research paper at the end. Very easy person to talk to, although he might seem intimidating at first. An easy pass, but if you show him that you're engaged, you'll do well.
