He presents the material very well;always helpful. Highly recommend.

Not very understanding, no personality. Teaches material effectiently

he's a good prof. but he is mean. very mean. i had him first semester frosh year, and i went to see him once and i almost cried. but he really teaches the material.
The guy is a grumpy old man, he hates his life and his students. He will get the material across and if you study really really hard and put the effert in you can get a B.
Four kinds of pasta, he's a hunk!!!
Great teacher, easy as hell, it at all best when taken in the summer
Do not take him. If you are struggling, he wont help you at all, and he loves to treat you like you don't know anything.
Goes through material too rapidly...teaches well beyond what other professors do, as well as what is needed for final exam. Do not recomend for people who can't teach themselves.
He flies through material, which is great. Sometimes, though, he can be a little too helpful (i.e. homework probs) and that can slow the class down a bit. All in all an excellent teacher for people who love to learn math
I had this professor for calculus. He was gruff and had expectations, but delivered the material clearly and explained it thoroughly. After he got to know us, the gruffness dropped a little bit as well. Excellent prof.
Fair on grading and well known of the subject
We really didn't get through a lot of material. He might be knowledgable about the subject, but because he feels he has to go through every homework and test problem, we miss about 3 weeks of class that could be spent on the last 3 chapters.
loves to make you feel stupid when he asks questions and you don't answer right. tests are made to trick you and to make sure you don't pass.try to make every attempt to not have to take him
He's horrible. I feel like all I did was go to his office hours where he would make me feel like even more stupid. He even made me cry! If you ever have him, be sure to go to wachsmuth if you ever need help, cause gross won't help ya!
This guy is definitely not cool...he definitely makes you feel stupid if you don't know an answer or do poorly...he has a big problem trying to communicate the information (he knows what he's talking about but can't explain****)
He is a horrible teacher. He doesnt explain anything, like what section we are doing! He talks down to everyone and says bad things to the entire class. He sucks.
DONT TAKE HIM!!He's the WORST teacher I've ever had! He refuses to help you even if you stay after class. He doesn't teach. His tests have nothing to do with what youre learning in class. If you wanna try and pass DONT TAKE HIM!
horrible...discouraging...does not want you to do well b/c he has to feel like he is smarter than everyone, has no grading system, takes off ten points b/c he feels like it and can not admit that he makes mistakes
For people who are going to keep up with the hw and study, he's a great teacher. He makes everything as simple as possible and most of the questions on the tests are ones you've already done in class or were on the hw. Nice guy. If you don't understand something he's very helpful during office hrs.
Prof. Gross is the man, hes great because he loves to give us a sample problem to show us what were doing and he outlines his questions so we can understand how to do it. he lets us do that maple thing, which is pretty straightforward. plus how can you go wrong with a sick email address such as grossdan? you cant. good guy, take him.
Not the best teacher, but knows what he's talking about - i took a statistics class in high school so this class was like a review for me, i asked if it was ok if i didnt do the HW...no problem! the HW is a review for you and not graded. i was helping loads of other students 'cuz he isn't the clearest person to understand, again, not the BEST teacher but bless him he tries!
ok this guy is easy because the take home assignments are worth alot and the tests aren't bad. but everyday he walks into class and asks if anyone has questions on the homework. if you do...he looks at the problem and then talks to you like you are retarded and he's like thats an easy one. well i couldn't figure it out, can ya help me? dont take him if ya have trouble understanding math.
this guy is an pretty good teacher. i sometimes understand him. he can be easy at times, but the same time be pretty hard. he talk soooo loud; sometimes scaring me. take him if you want; it's your choice.
This class itself is pretty easy because most of the stuff I had already learn. I think he is a great teacher, a little boring. He goes over everything clearly, and gives examples for you so that you understand it. There are take home quizzes and assignments.
If you listen and take notes, you should do fine. From experience, I would recommend doing the homework problems, they really do help you out in the end.
Really knows his stuff. Don't be intimidated by him. DO THE HOME WORK. He only assigns relevant stuff. Gives take home quizzes and assignments that he will help you with. Go to class, do the work, and the class is easy. He is very organized and shows up to every class. Admire the professionalism because not every prof is like him.
Do the homework in this class and you should be fine. He gives take home quizes and computer assignments and there a lot of ways to earn extra credit. He is always willing to meet with you if you need help.
Great teacher, explains everything really well and clear. TAKE HOME QUIZZES!! all quiz/test problems are either from notes examples or hw so its not hard to get an A. goes over hw in beginning of class, claims that every question is easy so it makes u feel a little stupid but he still will do every problem u had trouble with. Cant get much better
Had him for 2 math classes... awesome professor, extra points on everything, and always willing to help. Def one of the best math professors at SHU. Take him if you want to learn something.
He's a very old-style teacher, he comes in, teaches, does all the work on the chalk-board and explains everything out. Do the work and you will be fine. HOMEWORK is VERY important if u want to do good. He has no sense of humor and is not very approachable but nice guy. He wont allow labtops or sleeping, attnedance is important. I'd take him again.
he just comes in teaches, writes on the board, and that's it...a little boring but he gives easy tests and take home quizzes....lots of extra points...easy class
He explains everything he teaches perfectly. Unlike other teachers for this course he actually explains maple and shows how to use it. He gives take home tests and if you do them you'll ace the test. Final is challenging but just overlook his tests. He is the best in this course.
He explains everything to a T' and when you look back to his notes you remember exactly what is going on in class. He's intimidating at first but an overall great teacher and nice guy.
If you pay attention and take notes you'll be able to apply those notes in class to any homework or quiz. He made some basic Calc problems actually seem easy. He doesn't seem like the nicest guy but he's pretty generous grade wise
Extremely annoying, unapproachable, should go back and take grammer and vocational lessons
The classes are very boring and the way he explains the material is confusing. The tests are pretty hard, but quizzes and assignments are easy. The final is a cumulative departmental exam.
He is seriously the best math professor i had. He explains everything very clearly. Who cares if he's boring; at least he makes the material comprehensible.
Study study study. You get some of those lectures from him, but you really need to to do well in this class. He kinda "yells" when he teaches, but he's not that bad.. not really unapproachable either.. I went to his office hours and he was fine. Don't be scared to take him; he's not a bad professor.
probably one of the best teachers in the math department here. i thought he was extremely helpful, especially if you went to see him during office hours. He explains things fairly in class and his tests are pretty easy.
He is a GREAT TEACHER and explains the material very well. Every maple or excel assignment he gives examples and explains how to do them in detail. Gives easy points and extra credit on every test and quiz. Take this class he is the best Qantum Meth teacher. Don't listen to bad ratings this guy is really good and you will learn and do well.
I'm NOT a math person and I got an A. The subject is really easy and he could make the tests and quizzes a lot harder but he doesn't. He really wants you to do well, though he doesn't seem it. He's socially awkward and seems mean and unnaproachable, but he really isn't if he knows you try and really need his help. Has his rude moments, but NOT BAD!
Math Perspect. - When you get confused by him in class, READ THE CHAPTERS!! They are so much easier than how he explains it, especially if you miss something. A very strange man, but he tries to losen up. Its not difficult. You WILL get an A if you do the homework and read the chapters. Trust me, if you do the work, its not bad. Take in the summer!
He's very boring and not very nice. I went to him for extra help and he claimed I should have already known the stuff I was asking him. If you turn stuff in and study hard for tests, you'll make it, but don't expect a friendly, helpful guy.
Ignore the negativity, he really wants his students to pass, which is why he gave take home quizes and assignments. He was really helpful and explained everything you need to know for the department test, he looks scary but will crack a smile here and there.
Tough but hilarious professor. Tests can be tricky, but they're not impossible. Do the homework, ask questions, and know the definitions.
Kind of annoying. When he talked he worked himself up into yelling and would ask questions about things we didn't know. This was a very hard class for me but im not good at math. Be sure to ask questions otherwise you won't hear about it again. He will go back over a problem and will ask if anyone had questions on the homework.
He is a little intimidating at first, gives a lot of homework which I recommend doing all of because it will help you do much better on the exams. He gives you extra credit on all quizzes and exams. You should take really good notes aswell, you wont get a good grade in this class unless you put the time in.
this class was soo easy, maybe because I like math. If you pay attention, which can be hard sometimes given he has a monotone and sometimes intimidating voice, you will understand the material easily. Do the hw it really helps and this class will be a walk in the park
This guy flat out told me I was going to fail to my face in front of the rest of the class. This guy is by far the worst professor at seton hall and I literally hope I never have to see him again ever in my life.
He's good at teaching but cant write for crap, whatever he wrote on the chalkboard looked like it was written by a second grader. Gives a solid amount of work but the tests aren't too bad as long as you do all the hw and study a little bit. TAKE GOOD NOTES, you will look back on them often.
He gets down to business and he's no nonsense. Honestly, I felt the material is unbelievably easy but I love math. Take all the notes and do the book problems right before the test as practice, you'll get an A.
Class starts at 8:30? He gets there at 8:30 walks up to his desk and starts teaching right away. EASY TESTS! if you practice the webassigns EASY TEST, EASY EASY EASY, but he's not very helpful if you dont understand, can come off as intimidating.
Really great professor. Gives extra credit on all of the tests and computer assignments. Handwriting is somewhat messy, but he reads everything out loud. Straightforward. If you need help with the homework just email him and he'll answer with what you are doing wrong. Best MATH 1205 professor. Take him
really great professor, it's not hard, just take all of the notes, makes test right from his notes, not hard if you review notes some.
The first day of class I was so intimidated. He's extremely brash and sounds like the bird from Aladdin. However, he's extremely clear and if you pay attention, learning is easy. plus, he puts extra credit built into some of the tests.
Very difficult, nothing ever satisfies him, he knit picks at everything
Gives extra points on tests and you need only 900/1000 points to get an A (only 90%). You take 4 tests that are each worth 140 points, a 300 point final, and the remaining 140 points is homework. Put in the work and pay attention in class and you will be fine.
I was intimidated first day of class and I wasn't sure how I would do. A few days in and I realized how clear and simple he makes everything. He's all business but he'll throw a few dry jokes in now and then. Comes off as very unapproachable, but if you go to him, he is one of the nicest and helpful profs you'll talk to. I Recommend him.
Although the professor seems intimidating, he is actually quite easy. He writes every single note down on the board, and gets most of his test questions from the notes & homework. As long as you do the homework & study, you will get an A, no doubt about it. I highly recommend taking him.
Professor Gross knows what e's talking about and expects you to know too. He gets upset when students do not answer his questions or are confused. He is a fair grader and will help if you ask for it.
Gross is the man. I failed this class before taking him and had a really rough time. When I took Gross, everything was a lot easier. He is kind of rude but does a great job teaching people who aren't good at math, but have an interest in business. Tests are really easy. Study the webassigns and the test will be a joke.
I was intimidated from the way he presented but it's actually not hard. I'm not good at math but I did well (B+) in the class, you just have to study your notes for the tests and do your homework. He's not hard as long as you go the the classes and pay attention, I would recommend taking him.
He's very rude and grouchy but he knows what he is doing. I am horrible at math and I have an A-. You just have to do all the webassigns and make sure you're keeping up with the class. Not bad at all.
Easiest test ever!!!! I never got below an A on them. Do the webassign and you will fly through the test. One test only took me 9 mins to complete. Even though he only teaches 3 times a week take him for the easiest A you will get in the business school.
I'm a finance major and this was my favorite class this semester! Prof. Gross seems a little scary in the beginning but he is one great guy that is willing to help you if you need it. You can see he has thought calculus for many years and he definitely knows what he's saying. Be prepared for homework for every class that counts towards your grade.
You pretty much just rewrite everything from the textbook which he writes on the board. Its pretty boring but he's a fair teacher. He expects questions but gets mad that you dont already know the stuff when you do ask questions so its just a little weird. Pretty easy grade though
Professor Gross wasn't my cup of tea. Although I ended with a B, the class was all over the place. He won't help you. He'll call you out in class if you don't understand what is going on. He's mean. His class is relatively easy if you put in a lot of effort, but honestly take a different finite math teacher. The stress is not worth it man.
Professor Gross is an easy teacher if you simply write down everything he writes on the board. He gives a lot of notes and is very good at teaching the material. If you don't pay attention in class and take notes you wont do well in the class. His tests are extremely easy and he tells you exactly what is going to be on them. 100% TAKE HIM!
For someone who isn't great in math, Mr. Gross is the go to teacher. He gives good notes and really good explanations for everything. Not the friendliest guy, but hes there to teach you math, and is good at it. Just make sure to do your web-assign homework and study your notes from class and you'll do fine on the tests and in his class.
Kind of intimidating (more approachable outside of class time), but overall a great professor who knows what he's doing. He'll ask you to do the homework but it won't be graded - do it anyway though because the class is way tougher otherwise
His seems scary. He makes you take lots of notes in one class so its not easy process everything in one class. make sure do hw assigned even though not checked. Caus if u don't you won't pass. Do good on take home quizzes & study hard before the test. You earn grade by total of ur totaL test points. out of 1000, earn up to 600 you pass. Overall ok
Overall, he knows the material well, and he knows how to teach. Do the WebAssign, that will help a lot, because if you are not a strong test taker, then the WebAssign will help your grade. My issue was I went to him for help, but he really did not help me that much. His handwriting on the board is not easy to read so taking notes is a hassle.
He's intimidating, probably because he's big and loud. Otherwise I like his teaching style, my problem though is that he gets mad when people don't do good on a take-home quiz or an exam.
Gross is just a mean guy and someone who gets mad when people dont understand or dont like his teaching style. Although I passed, the class itself was him yelling at us when someone didn't do well on a test.
Definitely found him intimidating. He's not happy if the class, in general, doesn't do well on a test or if nobody knows the answer to something. He lectures A LOT within a 50 minute period and writes everything on the board. He goes over the material relatively quickly. Do the WebAssigns as they will help. Just wasn't a great prof for me.
Only criticism I would give is that while he's doing lectures, he won't finish proofs expecting students to understand how to do them. HW is not mandatory but it will definitely help you succeed in the class. I found that out the hard way and started doing homework towards the end of the semester to understand concepts.
Professor Gross is good! He breaks down the material excellently and is clear on what he looks for and grades. I would recommend him.
Dr. Gross definitely knows the material and does a great job teaching it but avoid taking his class if you get offended easily. He is a great professor but he's really condescending and rude sometimes.
He is the meanest person I have ever met. He expects the most unrealistic things. Every teacher I have ever had passed me except for him. He doesn't know anyone's names and he does not respect others. I hope I ever see him again. :(
Was not a fan. I do not request him.
He was a real piece of garbage. I was in school for 20 years and he was the worst teacher I've ever had. If you need help, he is just so rude. Even if you get help, he is mean and grumpy. I'm sorry to all those in his class. Remember, everyone in the class is going through the same thing.
The only thing I have to say is..... I'm sorry to all that have him
How do I explain him in one word? HORRIBLE!!!
I had to teach myself everything in this class. He is incredibly boring and reads off his slides. Its a real insult to math which should be always fun and interesting. To all the people failing algebra you really have no excuse cause you could just go to kahn accademy or something.
Professor Gross gets the job done. I have learned that most math professors simply stink at their jobs at this point, and Gross surely does not. He is not the most friendly, and can be demanding, but he is not going to make the class harder for you. I found his slides to be helpful, and he generally explains well. Not an easy A but it's a fair one.
Gross is a tough Professor, but his class isn't impossible. I will say I had to teach myself almost all of the material because his lectures didn't help. There is homework given every class and the tests are difficult. I managed to pass by studying and teaching myself. Try finding another Prof if you can.
Gross scared me. He is big and intimating. He calls on you randomly. If you don't understand, good luck. He is a scary dude. I do not recommend him at all. If you see that you get him, run for the hills. He won't help you if you need help. At one point I had a D in his class and I worked so hard. He was an annoying dude.
Dr. Gross is intelligent and knows the material. He calls on you randomly, so be prepared. People say he is condescending and rude but I personally struggle at math so I appreciate that he is tough on you and makes sure you know what your talking about. I never see it as rude, he just wants you to understand what is going on. Good professor overall
My time with Professor Gross was absolutely terrible. He wasn't considerate at all, and instead of encouraging students to learn and show them how to do certain things, he just calls them out for not knowing what to do. Here's a reality check for ya Professor: Math isn't everyone's forté so stop bringing people down and show them what to do.
Don't take if you get offended easily. I thought he was just a bit of a tough teacher but it he's just kind of rude and condescending. If a student doesn't under the material he will get mad at them and talk down to them in an unacceptable manner. Although his attitude didn't phase me much it made many of my classmates uncomfortable.
Professor Gross has four exams and a final and it is worth 70% of your grade. He gives vocab quizzes almost every friday. The homework is not mandatory but if you do not do it you will not understand the tests. He never does problems in class and only solves proofs which are not even on exams. I would not take him. He is also super grumpy
His class is so hard. My entire school career, I had A's in math and his class was unbearable. He gives us lectures and everything on the test is not what he taught us. If you ask him questions he gets mad and looks down at you. I basically taught myself in his class. The homework sometimes was 80 questions, taking me hours to do. I was not a fan.
He always gave tests. On the exams it was things we never learned. He expects you to teach to teach yourself. BEWARE of POP Quizzes! You need to study every night even if you do not have any tests coming up. Some may like people like Prof. Gross but he was not my cup at tea.
He teaches through powerpoints that can get pretty confusing. The grading system he uses is good and helped boost my grade up a lot. IN general I just wouldn't take him again because the way he teaches and explains things. I had to teach myself half way through the semester and stopped going to class because it was pointless.
Already knew content of course, so wasn't difficult. Prof. Gross has firm "no extensions" policy - literally had to argue with him to give extension on assignments I missed since I transferred to his section a week into semester. Doesn't explain things well & is very inflexible, and doesn't seem to care about students. DO THE HW or you will fail.
The professor basically reads off his slides the whole class and assumes everybody knows what he is talking about when nobody can answer his questions. When you do ask him a question, he seems annoyed and passive aggressive and gives a vague answer that is hard to understand. Understand his slides and do the HW, youll get at least a B+.
He does not teach the class at all, I had to teach myself. He reads off of the slideshows and gets annoyed when you ask questions. He will call on people at random and is not accessible outside class. He responds days after you email him and with vague responses. He gives homework assignments every week and that's the only way to keep a good grade.
Having taken advanced math classes in high school, the course material itself wasn't challenging, but I can see how it can be considering the teacher. Gross doesn't seem like he wants to teach. He just reads off his slides and is grumpy all the time. To be fair he is very generous with awarding points on tests, but is overall rude, wouldn't rec.
Dr. Gross is genuinely not a bad guy. He doesn't want you to fail. This class is just unnecessarily difficult and he does a poor job explaining much of the material. Unfortunately, I had my eureka moment wayyy too late in the semester as it was only by watching hours and hours of YouTube videos to pass the final.
It seemed like he never wanted to be in the class teaching. He was always passive aggressive, grumpy, and overall in a bad mood nearly every class. He is generous with extra points on tests and quizzes and HW is not mandatory. I just made sure I got a 100 on each quiz and reviewed them and got 80s-90s on each test. Can get a B+ easily like that.
Grumpy and always mad. treats class as if they do not know anything. you basically teach urself, he doesnt help you at all.
worst professor ever, always so mad and is not afraid to raise his voice at you. reads off slides and you have to teach yourself. always has a negative attitude and never wants to be there. will call you at random and get mad if you get the question wrong.
RUN RUN RUN!!! one of the worst professors at SHU. The $200 textbook the with access code is mandatory and is the only way you can do hw, which makes up most of your grade. The one time I asked a question in class he tried to humilitate me and after that i didnt want to put myself out there but he requires you to answer his questions. so rude
The other reviews are kind of dragging it. He's good if you grasp the concepts. He recommends reading the chapter before class, which helps. The whole math department gives the same test, so attend his review sessions—the quiz and review are almost identical. Teaching yourself helps a lot. If you just read the capters and go to the review, its easy
Don't take him.
All the reviews about Gross being grumpy and yelling are only half true. He is not a soft spoken guy but isn't mean either. Tests are DIFFICULT but quizzes are easy and homeworks aren't mandatory. Go to office hours, he wants to see that you actually care about the class. Funny guy, maybe would take again
Amazing professor, not sure about what all these other people are saying but he made this class very easy and I had no issues taking him. Love the guy.
He does not give extensions even if you have a medical emergency
He seems scary. Expects you to know the material already. Office hours were not helpful. Would not take again.
