helpful. very hard grader. project was very fun.
Very fun. Good teaching.
going to his class is like watching a stand up comic. he likes to joke around and make the class fun. but he is very effective in getting the material across to the students.
Ham is the greatest. His cousre is tuff. If your looking for an easy class, skip him. If your interest in really learinin about finance, bonds, stcks ect, Ham is the MAN. He brings real life experience to the class room. Lecture and office hours a must.

Um, I don't know what these other reviews are talking about. He's rude, not so funny and his tests are hard. His lectures are not helpful for the test. He assumes that students know stuff that they don't. I would avoid.
he will make you work and learn but will help on the way
Dan is the man! Coolest professor I know. Knows his****. Take his class or Dr. Peter Ammermann's class if you want to actually learn something about finance. Don't waste your time with other idiots in the finance department.
upper level finance classes are not easy classes but he prepares for students and lecture is just like a stand up commedy.. I have learnt a lot from his class..It is amazing that I didn't miss any class meeting... one of the few good finance prof.@csulb
Cool teacher. Speaks loud and clear so you won't fall asleep in class (unlike some other professors at this school). Very entertaining and funny guy. Class is pretty challenging, but not impossible to get an A in, you just need to study!! DUH!
well..as others say.. It was fun but not easy. Kinda class makes you wanna go drinking with the professor and class mates after the final exam.
One of the best finance professors around. Knows his stuff and teaches it well. Not the easiest class, but if you put up the effort you will definitely be rewarded. Makes class interesting with all his stand-up.
Teaches several FIN classes and I wish i could have taken him more. Funny and sarcastic. Material is not always easy but he is more than happy to help in any way he can. Have a sense of humor and you will like him alot.
Ham is the man. Gotta study for his classes, but class itself is pretty fun and after the second class of the semester (fin340) he starts letting you out very early as an incentive to work on projects. Awesome guy.
BEST FINANCE PROFESSOR! HIS LECTURES ARE VERY CLEAR AND ORGANIZED. HE LECTURES VERY FAST BUT EXPLAINS WELL. STUDYING IS NECESSARY IN HIS CLASS. YOU WILL DEFINITELY LEARN SOMETHING.
TEST IS VERY HARD, LOTS OF CASES AND HW BUT KOOL AND FUNNY TEACHER. IF YOU TRY AND WILLING TO LEARN THEN YOU WOULD DO FIN CAN'T GET AN "A" UNLESS YOU ARE SMART
Honestly, if you take this guy, you will realize that he is very smart. He makes fun of his students.People fall for it, but i don't. To me, he is so fake. His exams are pretty tough. He wants you to believe that he cares about you, but that is just B.S Lots of useless homework. Group projects Ok!
Ham is not for everybody! If u wanna learn take him. U learn how to apply ur knowledge. But if u just wanna get good greade and only paper of graduation there are a lot of "easy" professors that are heavily involved in "department politics" take them. U will get a good greade for a good evaluation.
I took him twice, that should say something. Definitely not an easy A, but you learn a lot! if you put in effort, you are almost guaranteed at least a B. about 15% of his grade is made up of homework assignments - free points!
Ham knows his stuff. Class is usually fun and entertaining because the guy is a riot. Group projects and cases are pretty challenging so choose group members carefully. Go to class and do your homework. Study Study Study
Ham is very clear and unorganized. However, he is difficult to understand because he talks way too fast. You can forget about being able to write any notes. He is helpful and clear about his expectations. He is very funny. If you need to take fin 490 make sure you take him and not Prof. Taqi.
Great teacher! He cares and is funny. You'll have to study, but you will also learn something.
Ham is a great professor. He's tests are hard as hell, and you really have to know your stuff to get an A. The cases are tough, but he's always available during office hours to help out.
Ham is a great teacher but not the easiest class. He will tell you from the begining that there are easier teachers out there. Lectures are very interesting and project relate to test and all material in class. DEFINATELY RECOMMEND TAKING THIS TEACHER
Some of the material was hard, but in the end he's super helpful and cracks a lotta funny lame jokes bout his ex wives. Just laugh, hell appreciate it. Good class, you'll actually learn tooo, very front loaded.
Very funny guy! His classes are always entertaining and know his stuff. His tests are not that easy, but you must do the cases to do well on the test. You come away from his class learning a lot of stuff.
Don't take this class during the summer, take it during normal semester. He talks very fast and goes through the material so fast that you're lucky if you retain anything by the end of the class period. Group projects are very time consuming and the tests are tough! You do get extra credit for showing up, and believe me, you'll need it!
I took two finance courses with him and both were pretty difficult. But Prof. Ham is very helpful and makes corny jokes that make you laugh! You need to study to get a good grade in the class.
I had Professor Ham for three different classes. He is a hard teacher but well worth it if you want to learn. Plus he has the end of semester party thanks to my class.
Dan Ham is a great Professor... sad I couldn't take him more than one semester!
He's hillarious. Very helpful. You won't get away without learning though. Feel free to take cracks at him during class.
classes are not easy. have to work through the material. funny guy, good environment. not lenient at all though.
He is a good guy, funny and cares about his stuff...he is not easy but gives you the tools to make it happend!! Mr ham and cheez is cool I recommend it!
Professor Ham is a great teacher. His class is hard, because he actually tries to perpare you for the real world. I still talk to him, and he helped me get a job with an investment bank. Now I'm in real estate development, and I wouldn't have gotten this far without his help. More teachers should be like him. And unless we have a bunch of old white business men who frequent Asia on Myspace, I can't believe he's rated as hot. Will wonders never cease.

easy B class if you do all homework, tests, and cases. Ham is the best prof. in the department. better show up to classes.
Professor Ham is anal, loud, strict, authoritarian, but one of the best teachers in the business department. He knows how to teach. THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS. YOU MUST PUT TIME INTO IT. YOU LEARN A lot. Oh yeah, dont expect some A in this class.. Its definitely not an A class your lucky if you get a B. If you want to learn.. take him
One of the best teacher's at CSULB he actually cares that his students learn something. Class is challenging & group cases can take some time, but if you understand & complete group cases you will do good on the exams. Exams have m/c & questions based from the group cases. If you do homework & group cases & attend class you can get a "B".
He has bad jokes and talks too fast. His homework has no relevance to anything on the test, but you must do it because of his lame point system. He grades tough, I don't think anyone gets a 100% on anything. Test are okay, just study what he tells you and every detail related, go to class, do the hmwk and cases. Every .01 point counts in his class!
Professor Ham is anal, strict, and authoritarian, but you can get an A if you put in the time and do the work. Tests are based on case homework and chapter reading. He cares about students actually learning and will go over something until you understand it if you just ask. I learned in this class!!!!!!
yeah, whatever these guys said, I would say "mi culo es mejor" I got banged with a B
he's the best
Ham is the man.... no surprises, no problems. Do the homework.. on time, and study the cases for the test. You are allowed a cheat sheet for every exam. I crammed for all the tests the day before and I wasn't aware of the cheat sheets for the first two tests and I still clocked a B.

PRETTY COOL IN CLASS, BUT OUTSIDE AND AFTER CLASS HE OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T CARE. GO TO CLASS AND YOU WILL DO FINE.
A cool teacher, don't get me wrong! I think his class is very challenging but at the same time, it's just overwhelming. Take him if you want to work your buttt off and learn something, you'll enjoy his lecture but be prepare to work hard, that's the only key! Take him if you're willing to work hard for a B, extra hard for an A!
So helpful. He is definitely challenging but he is entertaining and really cares about his students. If you go to his office he is always willing to help.
Pretty chill professor. does not really care about international business, but then again its just and introduction course. lectures consist of powerpoint slides that are online but you still have to attend class for attendance. even when you do go to class ur only there for like 30min so not too bad.
This class is a joke. Class finishes in 25-35 mins. Ham teaches from someone elses slides. He literally just reads directly off them. The Final is on 20 chaps which is way too much to give from someone who doesn't teach. Just read the book and DL the slides from Beachboard or from the books website. Jokes about smoking mary-j. I passed with a B
Just do the HW and go over power point slides or textbook and easy B. Too much information to study for on the final but then again, he did give us a mock version of the final which tells you what to expect. Attendance helps to get extra points and its up to you to learn the material because he doesn't really go over the topics that much in class.
Ham does not teach period. If anything he makes more complicated and difficult. Reason? Slides are too ambiguous and he doesn't put the class in any direction. IE by the final date here's the book I'm gonna test you on the whole thing. ESPECIALLY every part I didn't talk about. His tests are the most unobjective crap I've ever seen. I got a B, wow
Study the case studies and you will do very well (Tests are based on the case studies and concepts from chapters). Don't go to class late. Hard subject but you if you read the book (no one does) you will get a B or higher.
This class is okay. This professor is probably the easiest out of all of them. But the exams cover way too many chapters (7 chapters each) and the final covers the entire book. Thats the down side. He's a pretty good professor, kind of tries to hard to be liked though.
I took a 4 unit Stats class from a published Statistician who was a notoriously hard grader at Loma Linda and still got an A. In Ham's class, I got a B. Why? He doesn't bother to teach, his tests are bulky and difficult to take, attendance is mandatory, useless group projects, uses slides from the book while saying they're wrong. Shall I go on?
I really liked his class, and for any of these fools who got lost, the fault was probably on them. Though there was a LOT of busy work, he made stats understandable and I did pretty good in the class considering how completely uninterested I am in the subject. Just show up on time!
Ham is a great prof. The material is pretty hard but he knows how to explain it really well. Attend class and go over the homework problems a lot because they are just like the tests.
Hands down the best Fin teacher at CSULB. The rest should be ashamed of themselves! Ham is intelligent, helpful, dedicated, and funny! Ham is what defines the word "professor". Thank you for the great semester. If you can take Ham for 480 do it!!
Best teacher I've had so far at CSULB. He is very clear on what he expects and is a very entertaining guy. You won't be bored in this class. You do have some homework and a group project, but they are not too difficult. Take him!
Had him for both FIN300 & CBA300. He's THAT entertaining. Tells interesting stories "before class starts." Gives xtra CR if u dress up for Halloween. Ends class early if feels like it, talks fast, willing to help, easy to talk to, & gives out HW. Tests can be tricky for FIN300, know your concepts. Was more lenient on CBA300. One of my FAVS @ CSULB!
Ham is one of the best teacher's I've ever had here at CSULB. He makes you want to come to class because he's very entertaining, tells jokes, NOT boring. I have him once a week (5-7:45)and were usually done by 645. Weekly homework straight out of book and an easy ongoing group project.(4parts) He remembers your name which is good in a class of 160.
He just read the slide and comment on it a little. Finishes two chapters in one hour. We got extra 5 credits for some stuff (5%). He curved the class at the end. Tests are hard, but if u read the whole chapter like two times u can get a B or an A for sure.
Do not take him. This guy is ridiculous.. The way he teach is very confusing. He just read the slides but he thinks he teach very good. Sucks if u already stuck with him
He downloads ppt from the web and just reads off during the class. So basically u have to pay your tuition to waist your time, energy, money.
I disagree with some comments below. Professor Ham knows his stuff. He actually worked in the field before teaching, which is always a plus. The exams are difficult, but if you prepare a throrough cheatsheet, you should do well. He's pretty funny too, which keeps class lively. Take him and put in a decent amount of time studying. You'll do great.
Class consists of 3 exams and several group works. Exam are difficult, but a cheat sheet is allowed for each exam. Overall the professor knows the material and with sufficient studying time this class isn't too hard.
Prof. Ham is the homie. He tells jokes all the time to keep the class awake. He really makes this class enjoyable. Lets you out early a lot. Attendance is mandatory, it counts for points. 2 midterms, 1 final. Group work and HW, not that difficult. 4x6 cheat sheet for midterms, 8x11 cheat sheet for final exam. Take him!
Definitely a hard teacher. Reads off power point slides, and agrees with it. Attendance is mandatory and extra credit is given. 4 group assignments, 2 midterms, 1 final, 2 extra credit opportunities. TESTS ARE DEATH
Exams are really challenging, multiple choice questions are conceptually based meaning you have to know a set of topics to truly understand it. It accommodates with 40% of the grade on group. Will occasionally throw jokes about his past relationships but get back on topic immediately. Definitely recommend him but study the exams differently.
He is a solid professor. He really cares about his students. His exams are not easy, but if you work hard you will be okay. Make sure you pick a solid group. You will be stuck with your group for the remainder of the semester for small group work. 2 midterms,3 small excel projects, 1 case study, and 1 final.
Good professor that is funny and makes finance simple. He has experience in asset management and is a CFA charterholder. Recommended!
Ham works mainly in finance but was the best accounting professor I’ve ever had. He keeps you alert and makes you earn your grade. There are group work and homework assignments that help your understanding and grade. He’s really funny but does not neglect his teaching. You get cheat sheets and he gives fair exams. Need the textbook for homework.
His teaching style: Reads off the slides, then agrees with it. Every other class period class would be let out early. Group projects are a huge part of your grade, so choose wisely. Test are very hard, multiple choice and then written solving questions. Solving questions come straight out of the projects. Attendance is mandatory. Teach yourself.
Professor Ham is a homeboy, I highly recommend taking him. He knows his stuff and yeah his class can be challenging, but finance is tough so get over it. Group work is important, very similar to the tests and MC questions come from the slides and book. Lecture is fun because he randomly calls on people and keeps class entertaining. Take him!
Avoid it. No content, all BS and poor quality.
Tough class! No curve.. 2midterms and final. Final is cumulative. 4 group projects. He just reads off the slides Lecture is sometimes just half an hour. Gives points for attendance. Makes a lot of jokes which I don't find funny the jokes are offensive. Concepts on midterms are tough. You need to really understand the concept & read the book.
I had him for two different classes and both were structured similarly. Several individual excel based assignments, group assignments, 10 page essay, couple exams and a presentation in one of the classes but not the other. He spends most of the class time making jokes about doing cocaine. If you can teach yourself and do the work you will be ok.
Read slides, keep ask questions before any teaching. You will not fail if study by yourself and prepare well for cheat sheet. Exam very similar with assignment questions, 2 page cheat sheet allowed. So many questions in exam. 1 group presentation, finish class half an hour early. Class is boring, offend jokes and drugs experience all the time.
There are 3 group assignments, two tests, one final and five homework assignments. He's a pretty lenient grader and would usually have tests graded fairly quickly. Beware that he loves to call on people so make sure you're paying attention in class, especially if you sit in the back. In my opinion, he's one of the better business professors.
Avoid. Does not have clear grading criteria. Tough grader. No one in the class received full points on any assignment. Never responds to emails and is usually not available during office hours. Difficult exam, multiple choice and short answer, closed notes.
At first I really liked this professor until I got an overall grade of 89.5% and he refused to bump me up to an "A" for the transcript. So beware that he doesn't curve, and he grades us very hard
6 hw assignments,3 group work assignments and 3 exams all were not that difficult i barely even struggled. He's a straight forward funny professor i'd take him again but make sure to not come to class late he will call you out on it but overall i'd take him again!
A tough grader. Doesn't curve. You must attend all his classes.
