He's a lot of fun but the class was really tough, i thought it would be easy!
Great teacher, tells great stories.
Great teacher, makes class interesting
A cool teacher. Made geography fun. Had great stories to tell. Test are a lil tough but if you pay attention to lecture you'll be straight.
Great guy, tough teacher!
great guy
tough tests!!! talks really fast...slow down!!!!
He is a great teacher. Tests are a little difficult but if you study you will be fine. He's very understanding and always available to help you.
A very nice guy. He makes geography interesting and funny. If you study your notes and go through the cd that came with the book you will get an A-B.
hes a cool guy really fair in grading. very knowelegable. highly reccommended
He really loves what he is teaching and has interesting stories to go with what he teaches.
This class is easy. If you have any common sense you should at least get a B in the class. You just need to pay attention in class and the exams have no hidden questions or anything you shouldnt know.
He's fun and interesting. enjoyable class if you like touching on different aspects of science. very approachable and wants to help. lots of notes and tests can be tough, just pay attention in class
All around nice guy. Love what he teaches. Very willing to answer any and all questions. Tests are directly from the notes, take them and you'll do fine. Pay attention, he likes to give pop quizes!
excellent teacher, but really hard tests. he loves what he teaches and is ALWAYS willing to help! you must attend every class cause he gives little one question quizzes that can help with your grade a lot! A great teacher!
He is a very good teacher and very enthusiastic about teaching but his tests are VERY hard. He loves to give pop quizzes but they are usually pretty easy if you pay attention. It seems like he has been everywhere in the world and he has some good stories
His tests are extremly hard and so are his lab quizes. He also gives pop quizes in class to make sure you are attending all classes. I recommend to take any of the other Earth and Space Science teachers.
good teacher who loves geography though it's a lot of info esp T-R 8am...test are a little tough but he's always available and willing to help and has plenty of extra credit opportunities
really nice guy, you can tell he really loves geography!! i would recommend him
very enthusiastic! Helpful and flexible. tests are tough. WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN IN CLASS! Lots of variety in extra credit. The highlight of the science department at this university!
Harris is hot, in that "I've traveled the world and drink unique beer" kind of way. He really knows his material and will help out in any way possible. Dan has a great sense of style and humor. His tests are hard, but the wrinkles in his clot
Nicest guy you'll ever meet... but gives the hardests tests of any 101 level class ever... there's alot of info and he wants everyone to learn it, because he's a weather freak... it's cool though... he's super nice butI would've rather had someone easier.. it's only 4 tests and lab-not an A at all!
I liked his lectures but he had the hardest test and wasnt' willing to work with students who weren't good and geography. Unless you are good at geography don't take this class.
Always smiling, cracking jokes in the middle of a lecture, he's fun to be around. Speaks clearly and enthusiasticly. Tests are lengthly but are not difficult, they are almost completely multiple choice. 8am class is not a problem since he lets you drink coffee while taking notes. Reccomended.
Great teacher! loves what he teaches and is always willing to answer questions. just go to class and take notes and its pretty easy. if you have to take this class, I highly recommend Harris!
the reason I changed my major to GEOGRAPHY. very enthusiastic...you just look at him and want to go camping.
Took Geography 101 with Harris, and then I went on to get a Master's Degree in Geography! He is very enthusiastic and inspiring. I thought his tests were easy, but then again I've always liked geography. Maybe lots of students struggle because geography education in grades K-12 is so underfunded.
Test's are rediculously hard. After first test the grading breakdown was basically 25% passed and the rest failed. The class is a large lecture and you need to write EVERYTHING down because it will get tested, which sucks. The labs are easy, basically show up and get the points. Lab quizes aren't that hard if you study. I wish it was easier.
LOVE HIM! hes great, so easy to talk to and extermely helpful
Harris is nice, I will give him that. BUT if you want to pass a class don't take him. Unclear lectures, dont know whats going to be on the tests, almost all my class failed the first two tests,a good portion dropped the class. The lecture dosen't even match with the textbook reading so you can't even compensate for the crap lecture!!Harris=No!!
this is the nicest man ive ever met...i do think hes a good teacher b/c hes so interested and enthusiastic about geography...but his tests are pretty hard...still you should get at least a B if you go to class, take good notes, and study your notes like you should...so the complainers just need to shut up and start studying!
when i took this class i was not interested in geog at all but Harris was so helpful in lab and lecture that there was no way I couldn't do well. You have to study if you expect to do well but the class is interesting and he loves geography. Highly recomended
Great guy, loves the subject, makes sure everyone knows whats going on, DEFINATELY TAKE!!!! One of the best professors at SU
The worst professor in the world. Only 2 exams and a final.
He likes the subject, and it shows. I don't think his tests are really that hard: they're almost all multiple choice and don't cover anything that wasn't done in class. There is alot of material covered, though, so do study. Attendance is very important, especially the labs. He makes his lectures interesting, and helped me after class.
took him for earth space. didnt expect it to be sooo hard. really nice, funny guy but you have G0T to pay attention and take thorough notes. interesting class, but not easy by any means
nice guy, good at explaining things you didn't understand from Folkoff :) cute kids; like any other class, just do all the work and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
Harris makes a boring subject bearable. Geog was just a class for me but easy to follow along and he posts pwrpts and notes online so you know what he wants you to know. pay attention, take notes and ask for help and you'll do fine. labs are super easy and go by fast. only three tests and attendance doesnt count but you should def go anyway
Tough subject but he made it bearable and understandable. Class was at 8 a.m. so very boring class put me and many others to sleep. Labs are very easy, but tests are hard. Def. must study a lot of information. Hard subject, choose another science for gen ed
i took this class at 8 am, so thats partly why i didnt do so well. he treats this class more like a 300 level with the amount of notes and stuff. he really knows his stuff. labs were easy and some were a lot of fun. def take this if you are looking to avoid chem and physics!
Only three tests for the class. There is an optional final that is cumulative and can only help your grade. It can get boring but he tries hard to give you extra points. Pop quizzes only give you extra points toward your test grades. Extremely nice man who is passionate about this subject. East Lab science
Explains everything pretty well and if you don't understand something he's more than happy to explain it in another way
Liked the class overall. Harris explains everything really well and doesnt mind saying it another way. Posts powerpoints online, but you need to go to class bc he writes things you need to know for the test on the board. Three m.c. exams and an optional cumulative final. Lab was very easy & usually got out early. Take it if you're willing to study.
He's a really nice guy, but if you are taking it for a gen ed, don't think it is going to be easy. I found it much harder than Biology. Make sure you take time after each class to go over the material, so you don't have to cram a lot in before the test.
Waaay better than aguilar. I think that comment can speak for itself. Though taught our class as a pair and for as many steps aguilar took us back, harris put us right back on track. Covers boring stuff actively. recommend as long as its JUST him
He is an amazing teacher!! I got a C, but this is because science is really hard to me so I didn't always do well on tests despite my perfect attendance and constant studying. In a class of 50, he still knew my name. And when I wanted extra help he hooked me up with a tutor. He really wants you to do well. i'd take him again if it was NOT a science
Way way harder than I ever thought an introductory class would be. Harris makes it so frustrating because he talks 100 miles a minute and goes right on from one thing to the next in a split second. Wish I had never taken this class!!!
Mr.Harris is a really nice guy, but he teaches introductory to Geography class as if it is a 300 level class. There are 4 multiple choice tests that are difficult, random clicker questions that count as quizzes, 2 lab tests (the second one is more difficult) and a lab presentation at the end of the year. Take another class if you want an easy time
Great guy. Really interesting and he teaches off of powerpoints so it's easy to follow. I hate geography but he's really funny and easy to listen to so it made this class bearable. He does teach it so that it's at more of a 200/300 level class, but as long as you study for the tests you're fine! Clicker questions are extra credit that really help.
This is a really tough course even though it's supossed to be introductory. If you take the class study up on key terms especially in the book. His lectures are a bit fast paced so just save the power points from the lab computer. Lots of field work and extra lab hours out of class are needed. Overall, he's a good professor, but can be hard.
HARDEST COURSE EVER!!
Great guy. Great teacher
So fast dude slow down I'm a student :( his tests are tough too. AVOID HIM !!
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Talks very fast and moves through topics like no other. This class and his attitude towards me consider changing my major. Avoid him/this class if possible.
Very helpful professor that is almost always available during office hours. In addition to that, he answers emails promptly and encourages you to ask questions. He lectures at a fast pace because he has a ton of material to cover but it shouldn't be too much to handle if you study. The exams are very difficult, you have to study!
extremely hard professor and a little arrogant. goes too fast through lectures and tests and lab tests are extremely hard. stay away from this course and professor
EXTREMELY nice guy. Practically spoon feeds you a passing grade, and getting a grade of a B or higher doesn't take much additional effort. Ample opportunities for extra credit. I simply dont understand how one cannot pass with flying colors. Highly recommend.
Let's just say it's the only Geog class I didn't get an A in...oh well that was probably my fault (it was my first semester as a freshman). T=Regardless, Harris is a really nice guy and pretty easy to understand. He's really picky on labs and map making assignments, so pay close attention to detail.
He is a very nice guy, and wants to help his students. I feel as though he could have helped a bit more on the elevation map project as that was the hardest part of his class. The tests are lengthy but studying the lecture notes can ensure you a good grade!
He's an awesome teacher. He teaches fast, but the class is seriously not hard at all. It's a introduction class to using GIS. He's a fun guy and the assignments are also pretty fun! Tests aren't hard, but if you miss class you will fall behind.
Harris is a great teacher! He always has a smile on his face and is always there to help you. I wish more professors in the geography department were like him. He always puts his powerpoints online, so no surprises. The activities for labs were pretty fun. I would read the book to gain more understanding of the subject. Fairly easy class.
He makes everything extremely complicated, lectures are boring and he rambles but expects you to pick up every concept. He moves very fast and hops around from one subject to the next. Tests are extremely hard and hard to study for. I only took it because it was required for my LLC, but it made me wish that I didn't do the LLC. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. His tests are impossible and he just rambles on and on during class making it very uninteresting. He teaches the class as if everyone is a geography major. This class will hands down be the worst class I will ever take at Salisbury. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take this class!!
Professor Harris has been one of my favorite professors I've had. Taking the class as just a gen ed, i didn't know what to expect. His lectures are set up in a way that lets me get the most out of them. Powerpoint are very useful so take some notes! He also adds humor and personal stories to lighten the lectures up & keeps it relevant. Take him!
This professor was one of the nicest ones I've had, but the quality of his teaching was very poor. His powerpoint slides are filled to the brim with useless information. The tests were extremely hard because he didn't let you know which of the billion pieces of information would be on it. The LLC I'm in was just as frustrated with this course.
Harris is the ultimate dad professor. Tells good stories, shares photos to help understand material. Class gets progressively tougher! 93 on 1st lecture exam, 71 on final. B+ on 1st lab exam, 76 on final lab exam. Still, he's an AWESOME GUY and is super nice. My grade started to dive like a prayer from heaven at the end, so be prepared.
He tries to make his lectures interesting and fun. You take 3 exams and two lab exams. The final is optional but if you take it and do better than any 3 exams he will drop your lowest and replace with optional final. His tests are multiple choice and the bonus are super easy. He really wants you to do well.
He's smart, funny, and loves what he does. He's a really great guy all around. The biggest problem is he tells a lot of useless information as he is giving his lectures and it's hard to differentiate between what is trivial and what we need to know. Overall difficult class, but he would love yo help you if you asked him! Would take again.
Very funny guy, lecture heavy, lots of material on the tests at one time, makes the lecture interesting and the lab interesting. Explains material well.
Lecture heavy and fast, challenging tests, little outside help, weekly pop quizzes, lab is somewhat interesting although lab exams are challenging as well. Be prepared to study, teach yourself. Prepare yourself to study!
This guy is amazing, I was failing the class with an F, and he spent three days with me going over the lectures for like 1hr straight. My grade ended up being a C. That guy is amazing he Is truly at Salisbury to help the students. Salisbury should do whatever they can to keep this guy, because he is a real gem!
I loved this class, it got me to change my major. Dr Harris is a great guy and is very knowledgeable. His lectures are very high energy because he gets so excited while teaching.
It may have just been the fact that geography isn't my skill set, but this was one of the hardest courses I've taken. I was on the verge of failing and was super nervous about it. But he was really nice the whole time and honestly is a good teacher!
Doctor Harris is an amazing professor, and really cares about what he teaches. In and out of the classroom, he will drop what he is doing to find an answer for you. While attendance is not mandatory, there are quizzes taken on the lectures from the previous day for credit, and if not there, you will fail that quiz. Overall great guy, 10/10
Dr. Harris is very passionate and tries his best to engage students during lectures. This may not be the best course material to wake up to as I fell asleep a few times but it is genuinely interesting. The material can be confusing at times but he will drop everything to help you in his office. He will try very hard to help you succeed if you ask.
Professor Harris is a decent teacher but I found his 8am lectures to be very boring. The class is graded sorta test heavy but as long as you do well on the lab portion of GEOG you can easily get by. I recommend going to his office hours- cool guy.
He is amazing! Take him if possible! He does use clicker questions but they're pretty easy as long as you're paying attention. As long as you pay attention and take notes you should do really well in this class. By far one of my favorite classes and professors at SU. 3 exams including the final and a final lab project that you don't need to present
This class is tough for a Gen Ed, but he works with you so much to help you do well. Responds to emails quickly and always willing to meet during office hours. This course content was very challenging for me, but I would definitely recommend Harris. He truly cares about you.
So helpful outside of class. Responds to emails. Really wants you to succeed. I would definitely take him again, even though his exams are challenging.
He really cares about both his subject material and his students' success. Very down to earth but also no nonsense. He responds to emails quickly and will always do his best to help if you ask for it. The exams are thorough but not difficult
Professor Harris is a genuine guy, and it's clear he loves the subject material. He delivers a very passionate lecture, but does tend to forget that students in the class are freshman with little to no understanding of the content. Many long units will be put into one test worth most your grade, and are VERY hard if you do not adequately prepare!
He truly cares that you learn the material and enjoy it. He always responds to emails in a timely manner. Can be a somewhat tough grader but fair. 2 lecture and 2 lab exams. Final lab exam and final lecture exam. Power points available and he has study guides for all exams.
Daniel Harris is a very kind man who cares about the content he is teaching. His class is mostly lecture, with a final project. His tests are difficult, so definitely make sure to study.
Had Dr. Harris for Map Interp & Analysis, Honestly a hard-ish class but I learned a lot! If you're willing to put some elbow grease in and mess around outside of class you should have no problem soaring here. Great information was provided, I feel like a cartographer already!
In the classroom, Harris talks a lot. This is a very lecture heavy class that melts my brain a lot after 20 minutes of him going on and on. But visiting his office hours, he genuinely wants you to learn even if it means repeating everything, and he did. He sat me down and he went over everything we knew he already went over. Super patient and kind.
Dr. Harris is awesome. The class is fun and engaging. Exams and the final project were a little difficult, but if you pay attention in class and put forth some effort you will be fine. Exams reflect content learned in class, no curveballs. 10/10 professor
