Daniel is an amazing instructor.He doesn't teach your classic history, he teaches truth. If you don't like ugly truths and want to remain ignorant in believing that America is all great and we were just amazing in history, DO NOT take this class but if you want to learn the true history this is a perfect class.

I was extremely happy with this class. The way Daniel teaches is very interesting and instead of just lecturing the crap out of his students, he interacts with them. He doesn't use movies and overheads to drill the information into us, instead he makes it interesting and makes us want to obtain the knowledge he is offering. Thank you Daniel!!

i seriously DESPISE history, but daniel teaches so well!! he doesnt teach the boring stuff about history, he gets into the real things that happened. He goes over what will be on the test. Eventhough his tests are in essay format, he gives you a MILLION ways to pass it..he gives example essay questions before the test hints on the test

Daniel was fantastic.He clearly enjoys uncovering the truth in historical matters.If you are looking for traditionalism, this is NOT the class for you.SHOW UP to class. Your notes are vital to your success on the exam. You'll learn alot of interesting information.

Only been in his class for a week so far, but I found him captivating.

I actually took both of his classes at the same time, and got an A in both. He is an amazing laid back teacher who has a, "you either come or don't come" attitude. Although attendence is not required I would recommend it because he is captivating and has a lot of interesting, if somewhat controversal, things to say. It was really worth my time.

He's an awesome teacher. He gives the most interesting lectures I've ever heard. He utilizes many different viewpoints and sources to piece together a mult-faceted view of history. He really does justice to every event, and every population of people involved in it. He just rocks.

He is the best history teacher ever! He is always making jokes and makes class fun and interesting. His class is very easy and he helps you when you need it. His quizzes, readings, and test are easy you just need to review notes and you're good!

Easy class, funny guy. I admire how he tries to teach out side of the box, but the entire class is centered around how America lies, kills everybody, etc etc. It's so negative. I understand that everything isn't positive but he pushes his left wing opinion of current topics in this class which is supposed to be about mid 1850's to present.

Tests are essay format, although it's discouraging, don't be discouraged. As long as you attend class and take down lot's of notes, you will do well. He is also very humorous :)

He is extremely easy. This is my second semester taking him for a class. I don't even show up to class, and all I do is study the topics he posts on Blackboard and I make a high B on his essay-style exams. Not to mention, he's very funny!

Just take this teacher if you can. He is extremely easy. I don't go to class and all I do is study the topics he lists at the end of the semester for the finals, and you're set. If you do want to stay in class, you'll find that he is extremely funny and entertaining, and he incorporates a lot of funny ideas into his teaching. Easy A!

I took this professor two semesters and learned a lot of interesting stuff. His lectues go above and beyond the average and if you turn in the readers and pay attention on his lectures you will definately get an A. He's a great professor.

Very intelligent and articulates the information well. I'm not a history afficionado, but I simply love his lectures. He's very approachable,funny, and made me like history. He goes into the depths of history, so I appreciate this. Take notes,listen,read the book=easy A. Highly recommend him!!!

This class is an easy A but since he was so laid back I got lazy and did not go to class or turn in my work so I got an 86. I am about to start my second semester here and I am going to take him again for History 1023!:D

This class is really fun and interesting! Great way to learn about history. Definitely an easy A, plus you learn more than you every thought you would about a subject that is usually "boring."

Decided to take him after reading reviews about how awesome he is, and all of the comments proved to be true! Before taking this class I was uninterested in history, generally speaking, but the stories that he gives are so interesting and easy to understand! I recommend him for both 1013 and 1023!

I had him for both 1013 & 1023. He's a must have teacher. He's excellent, he makes all his topics hilarious and interesting. The only work will be you having to read the chapters but all you have to do is write a one page summary! His tests are in essay format, he gives you a review so if you study and prepare you will make an easy A+!

This class was very fun, starts late and ends early. Homework is very easy and minimal. He makes everything intersting and fun. Even his wardrobe is great.

Wasn't excited about taking history until I had Professor Hawkes. His animations are so visual that it makes the lectures fun and interesting. There are a lot of note taking but it's worth it. Professor Hawkes is an AMAZING teacher!

He lectures really good and the homework he gives is only reading the chapters and summarizing what was read and half is your opinion.

Daniel is an amazing professor. His lectures are interesting and he is not afraid to be honest. There is no sugar-coating history in that class. As long as you take good notes you will be fine. This is what all classes should be like. Hw is assigned once a week, a one page paper. Attendance isn't mandatory but for your benefit. Very clear and knowledgeable. Fantastic class!

He's funny, the book is in the library on reserve or you can buy it on Amazon for a penny but you will use the book for chapters. you won't use the textbook and if you miss a class you miss the notes theirs no powerpoints.

Pretty easy class. Class isn't mandatory but the notes will really help with the midterm. Hes fairly odd. I didn't find his jokes funny but many others did. Extremely opinionated. Daniel is very laidback, but straightforward. His class isn't hard. he keeps his lectures interesting and funny. if you go to class you'll retain the info you need for his tests. I record his lectures so I don't miss anything plus I get tired of writing everything. you only take 2 tests, midterm and final so know your stuff!

I took the first history with him. you only need the american realities book but you can just rent it at the library. Roughly 2 one page papers a week, and only a mid term and final. SUPER easy class and he is pretty entertaining

He was a great professor. He did not have mandatory attendance, but it is a good thing to go because everything he teaches in the class is on the test. By far my favorite class at TWU. It is interesting, EASY, and did I say interesting? This man is so passionate in what he teaches and he is quite funny. The only thing you really ever do have to study for is the midterm and final, which is easy to do if you have your notes from lecture. You won't regret taking him at all!

Daniel's way of lecturing is like no other, He has a great way of making you want to retain the information. All the readings are thought provoking and attention getters. I'm taking him for my other history course.

Daniel is great. He gives you a week for assignments that don't take long to do (20 minutes for me). His exams are easy enough. They are essay, but he gives you the questions beforehand and 12 of it is about his lectures which are presented really well. The textbook is rarely ever needed, so I suggest borrowing from a friend.

I had him and he couldn't have made my first semester in college any easier! Have a question? He will be MORE than willing to answer. Assignments took no longer than 20-30 mins. Exams are the easiest thing ever, prompt given beforehand. Listen to the lectures and you'll pass! Book for assignments, borrow from someone if possible.

I LOVE DANIEL! This is my last class with him so I am sad, but I recommend him. All he does is lecture but his lectures seem like you are listening to a story, which makes the class so much easier to understand. He does not sugar coat when it comes to U.S. history, so keep an open mind. Class is so easy if you show up, I passed with over a 100.

Daniel's teaching techniques are amazing. He allows for extra credit, and if you attend class daily, he will opt out one reading for those who only attend that day. I am taking him for HIST 1023, cannot wait door the Fall semester! Trust me, you will learn and retain the information.

He's very funny and doesn't give out a lot of assignments. There are a total of ten write up (which are short and sweet) plus he offers extra credit. Love him!

The tests are in essay format so know how to write English. lol And lastly he has reading assignments as the other portion of the grade. Read it, write it, and turn it in. Greaat teacher!

Professor Hawkes is the coolest teacher I've ever met. Most of the time he only lectures through out the class, but his lectures are really fun and interesting. Daniel is a great professor, he understands that history isn't exactly the most interesting class and tries to make it interesting. He teaches by lecture and taking good notes is super important. He is an epic history teacher with tons of funny stories to back up the history he is teaching! Honestly I hated missing class, because it was just a great class because of him!

I took "Daniel" this semester and he is an awesome professor!! You only have two exams: final and midterm. He gives you the essay topics beforehand and you can even have him check to see if your essays will get you good grades on the exams. For daily work we had 10 reading assignments-(graded on participation and easy). Lots of extra credit also!!!

He's very interesting and funny in a strange way, almost always incorporates his experiences with the lectures which make the class, even more, enjoyable. Only 2 tests throughout the semester which are mid-terms and finals. Gives reading assignments which are ooooh so easy. And before i forget, you could stare at him the whole lecture lol

Daniel(he likes to be called by his first name lol)is an awesome professor. I learned so many things that I'm sure would've never been taught by any of the other history professors on campus. He's passionate, blunt, and funny. I'm very sad he's leaving and going to Washington because other people need to experience the uniqueness of his teaching.

Hawkes has been one of the best professors I've had thus far at TWU. He makes sure the lesson is perceived by his students by repeating his self. If you need to take a history course, I would recommend him. He's the best.

Going to his class and listening to his lectures was very fun and inspiring. His lectures were not on the ppt. It's all from the textbook. 2 exams. His exams are based on his lectures. So dont skip class and take notes when he lecture.
