very smart guy. Knows all his stuff from every angle. he's really funny too. he keeps an otherwise boring class entertaining. Tests aren't overly hard but you do need to read the book. overall killer guy, take his class if you need history credit.

I love him! I've always hated history, but he made it interesting. He is hilarious! He'll joke about everything but still teach you. I haven't used my book once. You can't miss one class or you'll be lost though.Make sure you get a good atlas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great teacher. He is very entertaining and friendly. Communicates well with students, and knows his stuff. My class is 2 hr. 20 min. long but I still love it. His material is interesting, but his notes are very long. His test are all essay.

Mr. Holbrook is a great teacher. He'll go out of his way to look over a paper that you have written or anything else that you want an opinion on and he makes it very clear that he's there if you need help. Tests are hard but just pay attention!

Harder than expected for a 100 level, but if you come to class, take good notes, and study before test, can make an A without alot of effort. Tests are ESSAY, so you need to know something about each subject. Fun, bought us doughnuts! Hates Walmart!

Dr. Holbrook is a great teacher to have. His classes have a relaxed atmosphere, and because of his enthusiasm, are actually enjoyable to attend. Just by taking good notes and studying them I was able to get an A without hardly reading the book.

Dr. Holbrook is a wonderful! I liked him so much in HST 101, that I took him again in 102! He's funny, interesting, and he actually gets the class to participate. He makes the atmosphere really friendly. Helpful on papers, easy notes, easy test! Wow!

I have had probably 25 or so professors at Marshall and he is by far the best out of all of them. Makes boring stuff interesting, like his saying "gotta love the Huns." I would take him if you can.

One of few professors at MU that have enough mastery of a subject to teach it truly Socratically. I hope you get a chance to take one of his discussion courses. They are awesome!

Awesome class. I looked forward to it every week. He had a friendly, fun environment and included such phrases as "delightful little meat oasis." All in all, it was good times. Fair grader, tester, and a great person in general. Take the class.

Lots of fun in class, especially on his powerpoint presentations (potatoes and cod!). Grades essays kind of hard, but tests aren't too bad. He gives a study guide, so if you answer all the questions on it, you'll have a good idea of what will be on the test.

History of Science - Maybe a little bit too casual in his teaching of this class. Started well with the discussion on Kuhn's book about scientific revollutions. After that many discussions were irrelevant. But that's largely the students' fault. Didn't provide adequate feedback on papers.

THis dude is just plain funny. He knows his material, he passes on the information in a usually clear manner. Not so much concise, though. Rambles a bit, but his rants often result in a humorous story. Well worth consideration.

Not an easy "A", but he is there to help and seems actually excited to be teaching. Very funny. Tests are all essay but his grading is very fair. You'll earn points for just trying. He does read them though so don't try to BS your way through them. Fun class. Highly recommended.

Not a bad class to take. He's a really nice guy with a great sense of humor. Very helpful if you get lost. Really knows his stuff,in addition to being very passionate about teaching. His grading system is very well done (25% of the grade just for coming). If you show up,and dont slack off too bad,you'll get at least a B.

Not an enjoyable class--teacher was unorganized and returned only half of all assignments handed in--tends to go off on students and curses. HE HAS NOT UPDATED MATERIAL AND TEXTBOOKS SINCE LATE 70s AND EARLY 80s...NONE OF THE BOOKS ASSIGNED HAVE A COPYRIGHT LATER THAN 1986...books: Mickey Mouse History, Wallace & Thinking and Time, Neustadt

Dan seemed very uninterested in discussing the readings he assigned. Instead he would rant about some tangential point for an hour or so and then allow a few others to dominate the discussion with pedestrian comments for the rest of the class period. Usually Dan never got around to mentioning the readings. He should understand his role as professor

Dan was extremely unorganized. Discussions often consisted of him talking over trite points. Most of the readings were never mentioned. He is rude, pompous, and arrogant. This was the worst college experience I have ever had. Each class consisted of listening to his stories about his family or Denmark, or about how stupid his students are.

Excellent Teacher! Very interesting and makes History fun to learn. Tests are essay and can be taugh if you dont pay attention in class. Make sure you read the chapters and know everything on the study guides. DONT WAIT TO DO THE QUIZES at the end. Do them throughout the semister, to make it a whole lot easier on yourself.

The best professor I've ever had. Extremely knowledgeable, you can tell he's really interested in his job. One of the funniest people I've been around. Doesn't expect much from students, but expects you to attend and pay attention. Tests aren't easy but he has a very fair system. Great professor. Absolutely have to take him.

Attendance is required, which sucks. He's a nice guy, & willing to give you a break if needed. Otherwise, its required that you read the text & take thorough notes to understand the topics. The on-line quizzes are pretty ridiculous, but you can take them 2 times, in attempt to get a better score.

Amazing professor. You MUST go to class and pay attention, but if you do it's not hard. He grades fairly and evenly. Also, don't leave the online quizzes until the end of the semester. He'll bite your head off if you do.

Really nice guy and great teacher. It's like crossing David Letterman with a history teacher. His dry, sarcasitc humor is definitely a plus, especially when dealing with ancient history. Basically take notes, do 2 or 3 online quizzes, write one online paragraph, and take 3 tests. Not to bad at all. Just make sure you read the book!

Class can be hard, especially for freshmen, but if you read the book you should be alright. The map quizzes are "gimme grades" and the tests are somewhat hard, as they are short answer/essay style. As for Danny, he is a great guy, real laid back...has a great sense of humor and will go off on some pretty funny tangents sometimes. Attend/Listen/Read

I really enjoyed this class. I like Holbrook's lecture style and I like his testing methods. He is a funny guy and a real genius as far as the history of technology (although he doesn't showcase it in this history survey course). I recommend him for history 231 and probably more.

Dr. Holbrook is hands down the best prof in the history dept at MU. HST 400 is one of the most daunting capstones in the COLA, and Dr. Holbrook made it fun and interesting. The guy will help you out so much so don't be afraid to ask! He seamlessly walks you through he process of writing a massive term paper. I highly recommend him for HST 400.

He will ask you to read multiple chapters a week and then lecture about two pages of the book, if that. I have emailed questions and he does not answer unless the questions are mundane. His lectures don't cover everything. He gets off on tangents pretty easily, be prepared to do some copious reading. The online quizzes are kinda hard, but you get to redo them once. I got a B. He's a great guy, though. Really funny. Worth taking.

He is very helpful if you have any questions. His lectures are as entertaining as possible with 1700 history. The text book is not needed, but taking notes in class is mandatory. Overall he is a wonderful teacher and person and I highly recommend taking him.

He is entertaining/funny, sort of in a sarcastic way. Mainly lectures & notes! Walks around the class room, so he might randomly ask you a question! Quizzes are all on quizlet! Didn't need the book, shouldn't have bought it. But for finals, you'll need to know chapters vocabulary - the only time I used my book. And he records his daily lectures.

Dr. Holbrook is such a genuine person. He is one of the best professors at Marshall University and he cares about you, as well as your grade. Did I mention that he is HILARIOUS? This class is about conspiracies and is interesting to learn about. Show up, do the readings, even if you skim over them, and do the annotations thoroughly. You'll be okay.

Dr. Holbrook is a good professor, and his class is pretty easy. Three exams, online quiz every week, and about 3-4 discussion essays. Easy class though and as long as you show up and take notes youll be fine as the questions come directly from his lectures, plus hes hilarious so its not hard to pay attention.

Need the credit? Take Holbrook. I took him online, roughly a page essay every week or two. No tests, final was an essay too. Grades essays easy, genuinely wants you to think critically and you have fun doing it. Had me looking forward to the essay feedbacks too. Great man, great professor.

Fairly easy class that basically have three types of assignments. A 1 page chapter question, 2 page primary source analysis, and then tests. His grading is a little confusing in my opinion, my papers usually ranged from 92-97%, however, I do not know what made one paper better or worse. Still a good class that does require some effort.
