Boring class. Although he somewhat willing to teach, but way of his teaching is very unfocusing and not interesting at all. Previous experience, 70% of class were sleeping most of the time. Somewhat difficult as well.
this guy is rly nice if u get to kno him..i suggest if u have his class to meet him..he will explain everythin u need...one of best teachers on campus
he's such a sweet guy but he says ok a little too much....
Ok, ok ok?! :-D
Yes, he has a little problem with saying okay after everything but, this is my second time around chem I and he's much better then carraher......This prof really likes to teach and is very thorough & detailed with lectures....I will try him for Chem II
He is a really nice teacher and he's easy to understand. But he does so ok like every 3 seconds!

OMG STAY AWAY! I am a straight A student and this is the first professor that I have hated and not learned anything from. Thanks to him I dropped my first class! If you want to learn anything without going to a tutor twice a week and study sessions on monday and friday nights, just stay away!

He was a very nice man, but his test sometimes were a bit difficult. Owl can be a pain but in the end those extra points could help out.
Aweful teacher. Would not recommend. Tests are extremely hard and some of the material was not covered in class. I had to go hire a tutor 4 days a week so I could get a D in the class.
He is a really good teacher for this type of class. Chem is a hard subject and he tries to make it as easy for the students. If you go to class and do the owl you will do fine. People who don't like him are those who don't go to class or don't put any effort in the class. The book really helps along with his notes.
difficult subject!!
He isn't the right person to teach this subject. His class sucks and it sucks that he is the only one that really teaches chemistry. He has a whole new and obscure perspective on the whole subject as if he is on another planet. Even if u do the owl you still will get a C ora D+. So, major in Biology not chemistry.
extremely difficult class i passed by the skin on my teeth, the only good thing i have to say about him is that he curved my class about 10% if i t wasnt for that i would of got a 60%, and that is the lowest grade u can get. his class is boring his test are sick hard and he only helps women in his office hours, he was a dick to me. good luck.
He's very helpful. says "ok, ok, ok ,ok" every freakin 7 seconds. i took his class for fall 2005 and withdrew and now im taking Hacky for spring 2006 and i wish i had huchital again. he curved the grade. so stay with huchital!
hes a good teacher. to me he was very clear and understanding. i really suck at chemistry, im a complete idiot! and i still managed to pass with an A! just study, read before the lecture, do owl, the keypad, and you will get an A. he's a very nice chem teacher. his class really cleared things out. i would reccommend him to everyone!
he is hard... but understandablly the best general chem teacher at FAU. he is very clear and is helpful when you need it.
Huchital is the professor you actually learn from. His class is not one that you can breeze through. His tests definitely require an intense amount of studying. Make sure you do the sample problems and clearly understand the concepts from the chapters. Huchital is very knowledgeable. Keep up attendance for CPS points and to avoid falling behind!
GREAT TEACHER!! you just HAVE to sTUDY!
He's so cool!
He is a horrible teacher. I got an A in his class both semesters, but it was entirely due to the work I was forced to do on my own due to his complete incompetence as a prof. This is the ONLY negative rating I have ever left a prof...but he definitely deserves it. Take Huch, and you might as well be teaching yourself! COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!!

excellent teacher, the guy really knows what he's talking about. The class is challenging, alot of the kids dropped out after the 2nd test. The tests are pretty difficult, but if you do online homework and keep up w/ CPS inclass keypads questions, that will pull up your grade. I got a B-.
He' a decent teacher, Ok? ok. Tests are hard, but he curved me from a C- to C+, so I can't complain. Keep up with OWL homework and form a study group.
Awesome teacher..loved him...go to his office and he will help...just overall awesome!!
definitely a teacher that teaches to himself he thinks his class is the only one in the university and thinks that people already come being chemist his class is more of a forum than a lecture ok,ok,ok,ok......
He is the best chem teacher in the world! I love him, he is so good at making the subject make sense and he doesn't rush you.. If the exam was supposed to be on 5 chapters and you only covered 4, he will push the 5th chapter to the next exam. He is so kind and he really loves the subject he is teaching. I got an A and you can too..just study!
Dr. Huchital is an amazing chemistry professor. Do not listen to anyone who says he's horrible. Thats based on the fact that they did not try to understand the material and study for this course. Dr. Huchital gives you so much help including online notes, reviews, and many review sessions before exams. I love him!
This class is easy if you put alot of work into it. Personally, Hutchital is a great teacher whose methods are very good if you actually listen and study. Material is hard but manageble. One of the best teachers I've had, and extremely friendly if you get to know him. Also, people need to get over his stuttering, don't make fun of it-thats rude!
hES NOT BAD
The last test I took, the class average was a 47%. i dropped.

OMG this class is hard. I passes with a B- and I will be taking chem 2 next term. GOOD LUCK. hes a good teacher, but you just have to understand chemistry ;)

Second time I have taken Chem at FAU, still will probably fail. Both teachers blow. No help what so ever. Study your ass off and get nothing for it. Go somewhere else for chem!
BEST TEACHER EVER, really helpful and even holds study sessions, really easy class... You just need to pay attention and apply your self.
If you don't read and do the hw, don't even go to class cuz ur gonna be lost. But once u get it, ur good to go. Chem is awesome!
Do owl and study and it is not a hard chemisty class at all. I would take him again for chem 2. simple explanations but gets the point across.
Dr. Huch is the greatest chem. professor at FAU. He post all his notes online and his lectures are very clear. Chemistry is not an easy subject, so if you're not going to study or do all the owl homework(there is a TON of owl homework) then you simply wont pass. Make sure you can set aside plenty of time before you enroll in this course!
This class requires consistent studying as most of the stuff you learn here you can't usually cram. There is a good amount of curve that he gives, and a bit of extra credit, but don't expect to get an A unless you study. Also, most of his lectures are dry and boring
He's such a nice guy. The subject of chemistry in general requires studying, and is not interesting, but Huchital is a nice guy and a good teacher. If you need help hes always available and understanding
He's a great teacher. very clear on his lecture and notes he give out study sheet, the review, and it is very helpful if you follow his review. you can always talk to him about the exam and there's a big chance he will cross out that question. I love him, my best teacher. some people think that he is bored but to me he's cool
hes tough and challenging but its possible to get an A or B- U NEED TO STUDY. ITS AS SIMPLE AS IT GETS. his test are not straight forward but more or less fair IF U STUDY! He gives you pretty much 300 free points and there is 3 test worth a 100 so they balance of . SERIOUSLY WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR THAT IS INSANE plus there is a curve of ur grade
He definetly knows what he talks about. Keeps the class enganged but stutters at times. The best part is that his notes are always online and his tests are hard but you can always make up for that. Always do OWL Hw!
Dr. Huchital just plain loves chemistry, and he loves to teach. I fortunately had his class for both 2045 and 2046. He is a very nice guy, and he's quite happy to help you with any problems. As always, make sure you review the material outside of class. Even the best teachers can't help you if you're not willing to help yourself.
not clear in any way shape or form but i still got an A
The class is for those who are great at teaching themselves. He doesn't teach just goes over problems without thoroughly explaining how they work. Must have a great understanding of chemistry. People say he's a kind nice guy but I just think he's too soft to try anybody. Has a problem speaking and you will most likely fall asleep. Must work HARD.
i thought he was a pretty hard teacher but now that im taking aleman..he was sooo much better. if u can take him instead DO! at least he gives practice tests and alot of clicker points. he also curves. hes doesnt have the best teaching qualities but you can pass.
Good Proffesor. Boring lectures but duh! it's chem. One does have to read the book, and teach themselves. Definitely do all OWL and clicker Q's. If u do these and do average on the exams (with the curve) ull get around a B maybe even around an A. My exams were a C+, F, B+, & C on the final and managed to get an A- in the class. :)
GREAT chemistry teacher. this is a class you have to keep up with daily. you can't wait until the last minute to cram and expect to pass. TOP suggestions to obtain an A+ like me:**Go to SI**,go to office hours, do OWL last few days before exam so it'll be like a review, PRINT lecture notes, TAKE notes, GO to class, and do exam sample problems.
He was a great professor! He curves grades and the tests are straight forward. Make sure to attend class everyday and do owl. I did the problems in the book and made an A in the course. The final exam is the hardest test of all, make sure to study EVERYTHING. Hard work but I learned a lot.
he is a very good professor and explains things in detail. his tests are difficult and require you to study alot. but you'll have an easier time if you study his practice exams and go to S.I.
hard class, must go to class , you will do good if you pay really good attention and study hard. If you do that you should get B+ or above.
The class wasn't bad. The way he explains things really helps. We didn't have clicker q's (summer 08) so I skipped some days and had no problem catching up. He curves the class average to a 2.2 (about a C or 70-something %) but studying and PRACTICING works. OWL & Bonding is a MUST. Free 200pts!! OWL is also a good way to study for exams!
He is the sweetest guy ever! The class (during the summer) was a tad long, but he is VERY willing to help you during office hours and he ends up curving the tests ALOT. DO ALL OWL. GO to SI. DO ALL BONDING (free 200 points)
Somewhat of an easy class. Has about 3-4 iclicker questions per class. He gives his own lecture notes - you don't have to pay for them. He points out a lot of helpful resources if you still aren't getting it. The professor works very closely with the department therefore you are getting exactly the education you need.
very very difficult!!
very hard class, but if you studying and go to class you should be fine and may get a C+ or higher
okay, k, k, mmmmkay, okay, kk, okay, mkay. That is his lecture in a nutshell, mkay?
Hes a sweet old man and tries to help you learn but how can you learn when he, and i counted this, says OK 273 times in ONE LECTURE of 80 minutes!!!! thats like 3.5 oks every minute!!! But all in all study and maybe youll get a C
He is a really great professor!! Speaks clearly and gives lots of extra credit and owl homework is easy grade. Tests are difficult but if u study u'll be ok. He curves tests and is funny!!! Overall great guy. TAKE THIS CLASS, you will alot :)
gives lots of extra credit. Not an easy class but with the all his extra credit, it's hard to fail.
Very hard class. Must have a lot of time to spend studying! His lectures are not that clear. They were not helpful unless you already practiced the section he is covering. Exams are difficult and he can be tricky about asking questions. Expect anything! Owl hmwk takes a lot of time too. Do the extra credit when ever you can. And always do the click
Great Teacher and BIG curve in grading
his class is very hard, just go to class every day an study hard my grades were C,C,C,A on the exams and i got out with an A
My grade was an A and this are the few tips I have for you.Go to class-attendance is not mandatory but counts for extra credit. finish your owl a week before the test. Go to mychemtutor(si sucks). Read the book(notes do not help)
Horrible at teaching. Very hard class to pay attention. So BORING!!! His tests are very hard and it does not help when he makes errors on them either.
A hard hard class. But Hutch makes it as easy as its gonna get. Its gonna take a lot of work on the students behalf but just go to class, study and you shuold do fine.
Attend class for clicker points and do OWL for extra points. Easy to pass class with all the extra points and if study can definitely get an A. MUST read textbook and do study questions. MY CHEM TUTOR was huge help. SI is waste of time.
He was honestly a great teacher. I didn't do too well but that was because I started sitting with my friends midway through the semester. He's a nice, approachable guy... nothing to be afraid of.
DO ALL THE OWL WORK!! i never took notes practically failed all 3 exams and i came out wit a B+ cuz i did the owl iclicker and had an A in bonding, it seems hard, but it was the easiest class! love mr Hutchital!
Good man and means well but no point in paying attention in class or buying the book except to get the code for OWL because you basically teach yourself, test are very hard and requires studying to pass. Go to class and do iclicker as well as owl homework which is a good way to study.
This is a hard class but you should definitely take it with Huchital. he's the best prof at FAU (on the boca campus) for it. try to do majority of the OWL if not all. gives a lot of extra credit. lots of chances for reviews. about 12 quizzes (one per week.. sometimes take home) but the 2 lowest are dropped. subtle curve at the end.
the BEST teacher ever! he is the cutest lil man you will ever see! i absolutely adore him. and the class is somewhat easy, as long as you do OWL, and the recommeded questions he posts from the book from the end of the chapters! requires commitment to ALOT of studying! but he is very helpful and gives ALOT of chances for extra credit!
He is not a very hard teacher but the subject is. I had him for Chem I and II and i passed. MAke sure you go to class and print the notes they are very helpful and do OWL HW. He does try to get his students to pass but he would rather it be hard and you learn instead of making it easy. Make sure you understand concepts, not just calculations!!!
One of the easiest professor you will ever get. Go to the SI, do the assign book problems, do the sample problems, do the OWL, and go to Brian "mychemtutor" and you will get an A, plus he gives extra credit and curves about 2 full letter grades.
Tests are REALLY hard but he gives so much extra credit you BETTER get an A. Also OWL boosts your grade a lot so do the homework and the quizes and you will be fine
awesome teacher...just print the notes that he prepared for you, attend class and do homework and you will be fine!!
He is a very nice and sweet guy. The course demands a lot of studying and effort, but thats what being a biology-chem major is all about. Half the people that claim this course is hard, study in the last minute and dont pay attention in class: some dont even show. Its really not a difficult course, unless you slack off
besides being the cutest old man in the world.. he is a really good teacher. The class is not easy, but if you TRY your best you will get an A. I got a C average and all tests and still got an A- in the class with the curve and OWL points.
Took dr. huchital for gen chem 1 & 2. Chem 1-not so bad and chem 2 was a bit harder. The course is demanding, and you need to dedicate real hours studying for his tests because they are not easy. However, he curves ATLEAST a letter grade at the end of the semester and he curves tests as well. Its very possible to get at least a B w/ sincere effort
Just because someone is a smart man doesnt make them a good teacher. Pace of covered material is extremely fast bonding and labs lag behind lecture. BORING as hell!!! Way too many materials to keep track of. Tests are absurdly difficult, test days required me to be in class at 8:30 AM and the test wasnt until 7:30 PM. trust me,Find another way
Dr. Huchital is a very straight forward professor. He 'll tell it to you like it is, but unless you are a genius, you will most likely not pass the class. Do ALL the owl and don't slack in bonding or lab. Both are very easy credits, and he'LL see who is actually trying in the class and help you out. ALSO: take & retype all notes. But tests are HARD
Great teacher. Pleasant and listens to your questions. Willing to help outside of class time. Great, calm class atmosphere. Took his time with the material. Great lab professor too. A+.
Great professor overall...has some verbal ticks, if you know what I mean. Says "ok" 20 times in one sentence. But at least he makes everything very clear. Do the OWL, and NEVER EVER miss a lab!! And if you miss one lecture, you will struggle to get back on track. Take good notes and you'll do fine. There's a huge curve at the end of semester :)
Has VERY hard tests. Get at least 60's on them for a B and ALWAYS do the OWL and clicker questions.
Very hard class. He goes very fast. You can not slack off in this class. From day one you need to be on track and on top of the hw and practice, practice, practice. Don't slack off and don't give up on yourself. His tests are extremely hard. I went to BONDing leader for extra help - do the same for yourself. SI is a waste of time
i think he is a really good teacher. he covers everything pretty well. my only complaint is that his tests are really hard. if you are wanting a chemistry major then he is the teacher to take cuz he gives alot of info. if you just have to take it and are not a chem major then you might want to take a different teacher
Explains topics pretty well. You have to go to class to pass. And you have to make sure you do the Iclicker questions and the OWL homework.
He is thorough in class, print the notes so you can avoid writing all the stuff he puts up on the screen. His tests are tough and tricky. You have to have the time to spend on this class, requires a lot of time and a lot of OWL homework. Does not curve at the end of the semester. If class gets an average of 60.
This was probably the hardest course I have ever taken thus far. You must study and keep up to date! Do not do what i did! His tests are supper hard! Most of the hard questions have the answer within the question. You must do OWL! its a life saver! I failed my first 2 exam but passed the 3rd with a C. Got a B in the class.
Excellent Proffesor
great teacher, if you read the book, and actually study and put effort you will get an A
The man knows his stuff! I would recommend reading ahead so that you have a rough idea of what he'll discuss in the lecture. He provides lecture outlines via Blackboard; printing them will save you time in class following his examples. His tests can be tricky, but if you work the end of chapter problems and understand trends, easy as pie!
He's the better General Chemistry professor (better than Hackey & Kasdorf). DO ALL YOUR OWL HW - it's a lifesaver. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT - another lifesaver. ATTEND ALL CLASSES FOR I-CLICKER POINTS - another lifesaver.
do all the extra stuff, you can get D's on the tests and still pass the class with an A or B as long as you do all the iclickers, hw and extra credit. Hes also does a reasonable curve at the end of the semester.
Huchital is a very thorough professor so everything he talks about will be in detail...the best way to pass this class is to attend EVERY lecture, do all i-clicker points, do all the OWL hw and get at least at 60 on the exams to get a B in the class.
After much BSing i find out if you go to class and listen you pass. Went from F to a B without doing much more then showing up and taking notes.
oh my goodness! he made me want to loose all interest in college if all classes were like his! he talks to us like we already knew the material !there waS no teaching going on... just informing! it waS HORRIBLE! i had to drop it because he never taught me anything so i was failing.
I did not really learn anything from him. I learned everything from the owl homework but definitely go to class to get the iclicker points because it brings your grade up alot. I made C's on all the tests and still got an A because of all the extra credit.
The easiest one on campus try toget in one of his class, however he can boring sometimes so bring friends along who can help you along the way.
Good teacher
Very nice professor but his tests are very tricky. OWL hw, Iclicker, and extra credit are a must because over half of the class fails the test.
This is not an easy course. Do all extra credit and OWL homework. He teaches as if we should already know all of the material. Very egocentric.
very passionate about chemistry, nice and down to earth, he is very clear and offers alot of help, the class has SI, tons of extra credit and review session that are 3 hours long, its impossible to fail this class, it was also very interesting! got an A+ in it.
Get iClicker points as much as possible! and deff do your OWL hw... that helps your grade a lot.. the best part is that he curves all the grades at the end of the semester so you'll get a higher grade then you thought:) still not an easy course if you haven't taken chemistry before. STUDY for all his exams for sure and you'll do fine.
intentionally tries to trick you on the simplest problems.
He Sucks. Plays games with the notes & Exams, Never goes over what you missed. Many failed this course. The SI sessions are a joke. Often the SI instructors don't even know what they are talking about.Review sessions are the only thing worth attending with a Genius Wiz Kid named Gabe. Class average 42% every year. Lab TA's worse. Beware!
Here's the truth about this guy. His exams are hard. But he gives out tons of extra credit. That with I-clicker and OWL. getting a good grade isn't that hard. All the people i know that failed didn't study and spent their time goofing of in class, watching youtube videos and then complaining that they didn't learn anything. Just pay attention.
This class is not easy, although it is possible to pass if you show up and pay attention. He is not very clear, but assigns tons of extra credit throughout the semester. As long as you complete all of the homework, and extra credit assignments (even if you fail the tests), and show up for iclicker points, you should be fine.
NOT THE GREATEST TEACHER BUT GIVES ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT POINTS!!! FAILED 2 OUT OF THE 3 EXAMS... FAILED FINAL AND STILL ENDED UP WITH A B-!! MAKE SURE U DO ALL HOMEWORK AND EXTRA CREDIT... DO WELL IN BONDING AND YOU WILL DO FINE..
this class is extremely hard and he is an okay teacher i guess but he needs to go slower and go over things more for people to understand. doesn't really care about effort put in, which sucks. i got a c- when i needed a c for credit and he wouldn't allow me to do any extra credit for it.
I found this to be a very tough course, however Dr. Huchital gives you all the tools for success you need. As long as you keep u with lecture and homework you'll do fine!
Great Professor. Everything he lectures is on tests. Its alot of work, i clicker, hw, bonding, etc.. but if you study enough you will do fine on exams
Such a nice guy; you can tell he loves teaching and he is very helpful and willing to meet with students. I promise that I can not remember a thing from this class, and I nearly failed every test, but if you do all the OWL hw and do every possible extra cred, you will pass. He curved every test and even the final. Don't drop if you're struggling!
Very nice person. He clearly has a passion for teaching chemistry and is willing to help any students with their chem problems. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND MATERIAL. He usually does not remind students of OWL due dates and problem sets due dates. If your struggling, DO NOT drop. DO ALL OWL WORK! He usually curve his tests.
He is a very nice man, but I found that I didn't prefer his style of teaching. It was notes on the board constantly and iClicker questions that you normally don't get unless you understand the material prior to being in the class. I am just happy for it to be over.
Probably the best choice if you're going to take Chem2046.. You don't need the book since he posts his own notes online for you and goes over them in class......but you probably should get the book anyways. Gives tons of extra credit, tons of example problems, really helps you every step of the way, I think he was the best teach i had this sem.
Not an easy subject at all. He does an OK job on getting the material through his students, but we were never prepared for the exams. Exams are killers ! but he does curve (thank God) Must do all the OWL and other assigned work to get a decent grade on this class because Exams are killers (grade killers)
he is a nice guy, but he goes too fast during lectures. I gave up writing notes halfway through cause it just didn't work but i advise you to still show up to class! iclicker questions really add up & he'll usually tell u exactly what kind of problems will be on the exams! Gabe's recitations are pure GOLD! very helpful! Owl hw kept me from an A=[
go to class to fill in notes & for iclickers! he'll usually tell u what kinda problems will be on the exams (especially when attendance is low!) he gives a lot of references to page numbers, so get the book! he's always open to help during office hours. some kids didnt show up to class & jus went to gabe's recitations & did just fine..its up to you
So , If you want to fail chemistry, stress yourself out, and teach everything yourself. GO AHEAD TAKE HUCHITAL.
Very excellent professor! Very good at explaining things and helpful at his office hours. He curves as well.
Dr. Huchital is one of the nicest professors. I've gotten over a 100% or a 100% on all of the four exams so far and I just have the final to go. Tests are easy despite what everyone is saying on here. If you just study and do all the homework, you will do well. He is a very good teacher and makes chemistry interesting. I've learned a lot =)
i just took chem 1 (2045) over summer so it was crazy..but he gives so much extra credit that its impossible to fail...my tests grades were: 68,56,48, and a 92 on the final which was out of 250, and i still got a C in the class. All you have to do is all the owl hw and all extra credit opportunities..He curves like crazy.
The class was extremely difficulty because I took the course in the summer so imagine chemistry in one month. He was very helpful and gives a lot of extra credit because he wants you to pass. He even curves test because the test are really difficult. If you want to learn chemistry and actually pass then take this teacher.
His tests are hard. Study and devote yourself to the class or suffer the same fate I did. He is a friendly guy and definitely has experience in the field as well as curves tests.
What a sweet old man, reminds me of my grandfather. I take this class now and I consider myself lucky to have him. His tests are difficult but curved so much that I went from a 73 to an 85 on my first exam! If you go to class, prepare for the exams, and DO THE OWL HW I can't see even myself failing (and chem sucks!)
Always loved Chemistry so it was not a hard class, but definitely study for his test and go to SI if you can. Curves around 10 points, and does iclicker questions (3~4 per class). If chem isn't your strong suit, there are plenty of ways to get extra credit (iclicker, extra cred lab and homework) and a good grade. Definitely recommend him for anyone

Nice guy. Lectures can get overwhelming if you don't keep up with reading, but easy class if you don't slack off. You can always go talk to him after class or during his office hours if you have a question. Oh, study for tests and go to SI!!! Chem shows no mercy if you do not study.
Dr. Huchital is God send compared to the other teachers at FAU. His test are not easy but he's always willing to take the time to help his students. He's a very serious teacher and deserves a great deal of respect. Had him for 2045 & 2046. He wants you to do well. Subject is not easy. His exams, well study some more. They're No Joke. Thanks Dr H.
Dr. Huchital is the best. He's absolutely adorable. He is very helpful when you need help, goes through subjects thoroughly, curves tests, and gives E/C. Half of his notes are online, you take the rest during lecture. The only "bad thing" would be that he makes sure class ends exactly at the time it's suppose to. I definitely recommend.
Very good teacher, very clearly explains things. I tookt his prior with a different professor and found it much easier with Huchital. Lots of opportunity for points. Grade not made up of only exam... thankfully! At FAU take him for Chem, I promise he's the best.
Challenging prof. You MUST understand Chem to do his exams, no easy review and pass. He makes you THINK. Go to class, do all OWL, iclickers, try to do ALL EC because you will WISH you have them at the end. I got a B in class with EC and my exam avg was 65-70. Dont pay a tutor- STUDY! Or Go to Gabe & SI Agatha for help, they are so kind and helpful!
So this class is very difficult! however, i failed every test including the final and i ended up with C+. with that being said you must do all of your homework, do well in bonding, attend class for iclicker, and do all of the extra credit and you should be fine!!!
Hes an okay professor. He tends to overexplain easy things and skim over the hard stuff. I took chemistry my senior year of high school and took this class my 1st semester of college. On all 4 exams I got 1 A 2 Bs and a C all w/ curves. Cram before each test and do a few practice "?s". I never went to a tutor go to his office w/ specific "?s"
Exams are very hard, there is usually a 10 point curve. It's hard to tell if you are learning enough or if the exams are just really difficult. If you care about your GPA do all the OWL, extra credit, and Iclicker questions...you'll need all the points. You will receive an email from Brian about reviews before the exam, PAY THE MONEY AND GO!
Took Dr. H for Chem 1 and 2, received high As in both. This is a great professor with a real passion for teaching, but his exams are no joke. When he tells you to do practice problems out of the book.. do practice problems out of the book! Do all OWL extra credit & come to class prepared, as iClicker points can really boost your grade.
Take him for chem 1 not chem 2; his tests are extremely hard but with chem 1 many oppurtunities to do well i got a c+ but chem 2 is no joke there are less oppurtunities and i ended up with a c- do not take him for chem 2 seriously only him for chem 1 !!
Professor Hutchital was a great professor and really has a passion for Chemistry. However Chem 2 is no joke. You need to study for exams quite a bit because he tends to throw tricky questions in to try and confuse you. I ended Chem 1 and 2 with high A's. Great professor and I highly recommend him
I took Chem 1 over summer and found it very easy, but according to people taking it the second time, the course was substantially easier. It's very compacted and moves quickly. Easy to understand, but difficult to pay attention because he's boring. Did well on the first 2 test, and so-so on the others. Lots of opportunities for EC
The class itself is difficult, the tests are hard and the material is tricky. With that being said, Hutcital grades on a hugee curve at the end of the semester, there are plenty of opportunities to raise your grade with extra credit and homework. I had tests grades of : 81, 61, 62, 88 and final 82. He drops your low test. Got an A. Do hw and extra!
hes nice and understanding with his students. He does i-clicker questions wich really help your grade out for extra credit, the online OWL hw is easy if you LISTEN in lecture and take notes from his powerpoints(he doesnt post them on BB).Exams a so easy if you study and listen. Can't be lazy and have to keep up. Huchital is the best, i got an A+.
Huchital is a great chemistry professor! He makes the subject interesting and seem bearable even though it is a difficult test. Do homework and study like every day and go to SI or tutoring and you will be fine! (he curves)
Good Prof. he explains the concepts well but does not explain the examples as they appear on the exams. is you go to lecture and study his notes you will do fine. if you study the practice questions in the text book you will do better. do all the extra credit and the owl homework and it is easy to get altleast a B
I have just finished taking chemistry with Mr. Huchital. The class is challenging and covers a lot of information. Keep up and get help when you need it because its very easy to fall behind and lose motivation from confusion. Very Important: Do all extra credit, OWL homework, and Iclicker= these will keep you afloat!!!!!!! A/B for a grade
The best thing about this class is the fact that its challenging, but extremely hard to fail due to all of the curving and extra credit offered. Although the course moves quickly and covers a TON of material, just stay focused and practice and you will do fine. OWL homework is a MUST! Attend the class test reviews as well.
Hard intense class, must attend lectures MUST TAKE NOTES AND STUDY!! He creates notes for you online. SI sessions available (most of them don't know a darn thing) except Gabe. Owl online hw MUST do to get good grade! Take Bonding serious! You need EVERY good grade you can get! Work hard nice professor!
Overall he's a decent teacher, but his exams are extremely hard! Attend every class, takes really good notes. You need all the iclicker points you can get. DO all the extra credit on owl and all the hw. Don't slack off in BONDing cause that will help your grade ALOT. Do all the work and try your best on the exams and you should end up with a B /A
Come to class for iclicker points. There are 4 tests including the final. The professor is pretty good but sometimes the OWL hw and the lecture material conflict. The OWL hw is really annoying too. I received an A+ with a 95, 55, 77 and 87 on final. As long as you do the hw and study hard, you should pass. He gives a ton of EC points. Good luck! :)
Great class! teacher is friendly. He lays out the informatuona, all you need to do is swallow it and get help from SI sessions.READ the book! I got an A from reading most of the book. Tests arent that bad. Make sure to Do OWL homework. It's good practice. Good Luck!
Had him for chem 1 and 2. I thought he was a great professor. He's extremely smart but his lectures are sometimes hard to follow if you haven't seen the material before. Despite what everyone says, his tests aren't that hard as long as you STUDY!! (he likes to ask tricky qs) almost impossible to fail bc he curves so much (10-20% curves on exams!!!)
The professor is an awesome person, he is very clear on what he wants you to know, but you need to study, some of the exams can be very hard. spend a lot of time on OWL HW and read the sections assigned from the book, and don't forget to do the multiple choice HW, gives enough extra credit, so getting a good grade depend on how much you study!!!!!!
Very easy and forgiving instructor. Lowest test out of 3 dropped, plus 80 overall points of extra credit available if you can manage the extra work and get it right.
I took both Chem 1 and chem 2 with Dr.Huchital. Chem 2 is definitely harder, but do not let that discourage you. There are a total of 5 tests, he drops the lowest one. There is OWL HW, attendance and problem sets that will skyrocket your overall grade plus EC. Received an A+ in both classes with hard work. Study hard and you will be fine! :)
Explains complicated material in a way that makes it easier to understand. Lecture is boring but this is expected with the subject. Tests are challenging but he drops the lowest test grade and gives lots of EC to boost final average. I studied hard and got an A+.
He is a good professor just the course is long he make sure he explains his topic gives examples and curves like hell.
Good professor, easy to understand, going to class is mandatory for I-clickers the online homeworks are a pain but he reopens them at the end, go to class do the homeworks, read the notes and you'll be fine
He is the most adorable and sweetest teacher ever. He goes over everything well but the tests are extremely hard. The class is a lot of work and it's hard but he's a great teacher.
I strongly recommend him for General Chemistry. Though the tests are challenging, he gives plenty of extra credit to make up for it. My test grades were 74,81,67, and an 81 on the final and will be receiving an A once grades are posted. Not an easy course, but plenty of opportunity with extra credit to boost your grade up.
His tests are brutal but overall he gives so many opportunities to bring your grade up. If you have never taken chem before take intro chem first cause he goes fast. I got an 86,77, and 24 on all 3 of my exams and a 66 on the final. Yes I may have gotten a 24 on an exam but by doing everything including iClicker by going to class and made an "A"!!!
Dr. Huchital is great! I've never been a chem person, but I took it with him and got an A. I got a 96, 85, 58, and an 88 on the final. As long as you do well on the first two tests (the 2nd is the hardest btw) you're guaranteed an A. Plenty of extra credit from OWL homework and iclicker, so go to class even if you don't understand the material.
DO OWL! DO EXTRA CREDIT GO TO CLASS FOR ICLICKER. I got a 77, 35, 47 and 71 on the final and passed the class with an A-. DO NOT DROP IF YOU FAIL 2 tests
My test average was 50% but with the OWL homework, Iclicker, and bonding it brought me up to a B. DO OWL!
This is a weed-out class, so be prepared. a lot of material in a short time. Huchital is not the most clear professor, and he does go over stuff fast. BUT HE CURVES!! I should have gotten a B, but with all the extra credit, OWL, and iClicker I got an A! Do your OWL homeowrk and iClicker, they would help in the long run. go to SI sessions also.
Excellent teacher and loves teaching. He throws some funny stories in with his teaching. Fair grader! Do the Homework and all extra-credit and you'll be fine!
Wonderful teacher. Studied a lot for this class because I am pre-med, but he is helpful and gives a lot of chances to raise grades.
Someone said this is a weed out class. Nope. Orgo is a weed out class. Hutchital makes his tests very hard but curves every grade. Questions are almost all from the textbook, but people think that there is no point in doing the textbook problems. Do all of them, and you will not only do well in this class but have good habits for future CHM courses
goes too fast when explaining problems and is not very detailed in his explanations. i had to pay extra money for tutoring to actually learn something for my tests.
Chem 2 is no joke. You have to study and put time into the class. Huchital's test are brutal. But if you go to the FREE reviews that huchital provides (held by a Jay) and do practice problems you will be more than fine. Go to class for I clicker, and do every single problem on owl. Huch is very fair with grading! Super nice guy! Chem is just hard!!
Dr. Huchital is a wonderful professor who always takes his time answering any question either in class, in his office, or by email. His exams requires ample studying and going to class is required for iclicker points. He gives plenty of oppurtunities to do well with the HW and extra credit not to mention a curve. Just don't slack off!
Took Dr Huch for Chem 1 & 2. Chem 2 is extremely difficult...but he is SO helpful and offers a lot of opportunities for grade boosting. Get your iClicker pts and KEEP UP WITH OWL! I thought I was going to get a C and I ended up with an A-! VERY generous & understanding. Take Dr Huchital and pace yourself with the material. Good luck :)
I am already accepting the fact that I will not have as good as a Chemistry Professor as Dr. Huchital in the future. He did what he could to throw the material out there. He definitely gave plenty of extra credit opportunities to boost your grade up by one letter grade. Take advantage of this. Received an A in the class.
Chem 2 is crazy intense compared to Chem 1. Dr. Huchital is very generous in that if you underperform on his exams theres always ways to make up the points. Pass at least 1 exam with a grade of B or C and do all/most of OWL plus get Clicker points and you are guaranteed an A or A-. I got an A in Chem 1 and B+ in Chem 2 but could have worked harder!
Dr. Huchital is a fantastic professor! Chemistry is a hard subject. However, Dr. Huchital teaches with such passion and simplicity! Lectures go super fast but he provides notes before class. USE HIS OFFICE HOURS! Go to the SI sessions, review sessions, do OWL, read the textbook and you will do excellent! Tons of extra credit! Great class overall!
Huchital is a good professor and fives a bunch of extra credit. Had to study a lot for the exams but he curves. Got a 69,85,88,83 and 100 on the final. He takes questions directly from the problem sets earlier during the semester for his final! Got an A in the class.
Huchital was an amazing teacher. Definitely take him for General Chemistry. He also has an amazing TA named Jay who is superb at teaching. He is only an undergrad, yet he talks like he has a Ph.D in Chemistry. Overall, a wonderful experience.
Very nice, tries to help as much as possible; puts notes online. THIS CLASS REQUIRES A LOT OF STUDYING. Online homework is essential to understanding the material, do not wait until the end to do it. Drops lowest test grade, usually curves, & online homework has very helpful extra credit. Don't take in summer, WAY too much info for 6 weeks.
Dr. Huchital is AWESOME! Can't wait to take him again for CHM 2046. He is super helpful and has been in the field for over 20 years. Super sweet and funny. Class is chem so its pretty difficult to begin with but he makes it not a total nightmare and explains everything! You will have to work for your grade but you will pass and iclicker everyday!
His tests require you to understand concepts rather then be able to remember them like a parrot. Dr. H is very helpful in the fact that the Iclicker questions model those that will appear on the exams and walks you through each answer and explains why and how the choices are correct or incorrect. Take him if you actually want to learn chemistry.
I enjoyed Chemistry with Huchital, but I must say I relied more heavily on myself and SI to understand a majority of the material because he was not always clear in his examples although this was not always the case. He is very helpful if you go to his office hours, but I couldn't make use of these since they conflicted with my other classes.
As long as you pay attention in class and read the textbook, you should get A's on all of the tests. Takes some studying, but very achievable.
Chem 1 is not an easy class it requires a lot of studying, but he gives reasonable curves, a good amount of extra credit, and clicker points. Truthfully, I never went to class I went to the off campus reviews at ISA and that's the reason I have an A in the class right now. Textbook isn't used but you need the access code.
I. LOVE. DR. HUCHITAL. This man is amazing & a fantastic teacher (granted, I'm a geek & the majority of the material was v. easy for me). He puts all the notes online, offers 100 points of extra credit & is extremely responsive even if you email him on a Saturday afternoon. I think you would have to work harder to fail than to pass this course.
Uses Iclicker heavily. Lectures can be boring sometimes. OWL homework takes time but that's with every chem class. Big on extra credit and curving exams. Nice guy. Go to si and do owl before the test you shall pass
YOU MUST TAKE HIM! He will be a blessing to your semester! He helps so much it's crazy. And you must come to class to get the clicker points which help your grade so much!
There is A LOT of extra credit. Study often and do the homework assignments the same day the material is covered. Don't wait till the last minute.
Really nice professor. His classes may get a bit boring but he can honestly teach and is REALLY nice. He is there to help all the time and very easy going. He almost always curves the tests so I would recommend him.
Great professor and has helped me succeed in a subject that I am horrible at. I finally understood chemistry and he does a fine job of teaching! Lots of extra credit and curves and is extremely nice and kind. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
I got a C on the first exam and failed the rest including the final but got over 100 on iclicker, owl hw, and bonding. I did all the e.c. possible and got an A- in the class
Huchital is the most amazing professor ever. I took him for both Chemistry 1 and Chem 2 and he is extremely knowledgeable about chem and super helpful! I love the way his class is set up because there is online homework which helps a lot and make use of his office hours! He will answer pretty much anything. He is also really organized!!! TAKE HIM!
He graduated at Stanford University, an extremely knowledgeable (but humble) professor. He's great at teaching his students. The pace is really fast in lecture but this is for ALL chemistry courses. His exams are NOT easy. Go to class and get the iClicker points they help your grade tremendously.
While the material is easy enough in lecture, don't underestimate the exams. He does curve. Must be dedicated to learning the material. Loved him, definitely recommend again 100 times over. If you don't do well in his course it's because you were slacking and need to get your priorities straight. Lots of homework (ugh) but it is helpful.
Huchital is pretty soft-spoken. If you find that quiet professors and chemistry put you to sleep, sit in somewhere in the middle front rows. Here its colder, you can hear him much more clearly, and you'll be able to read the lecture notes. Chemistry 2 was not difficult content-wise, just do your homework, flip through your notes, & go to reviews!
DO ALL OF YOUR OWL WORK AND EXTRA CREDIT!!!!!! He is a bit boring but a sweet person. If you can bring yourself to pay attention then you should be golden. He curves all the tests and gives extra credit for attendance.
He is such a nice man! Great teacher. This class is no joke. Get ready to study 15+ hours a week, 10+ hours a week OWL, and 5+ hours a week on the Lab. I studied 5 hours a week, got most of the OWL done, exam grades 30, 50, 70 and 45 on final, got a C. Lots of extra credit and slight curve at the end of the semester. Orgo will be cake in comparison
He is the best chemistry teacher I've ever had! The tests are hard and you'll have to study a lot. Owl homework isn't that bad but make sure you don't get behind and do all assignments because it really brings up your grade. Attendance isn't mandatory but his lectures are really good and he gives iclicker questions that'll be on your test.
Makes it easy to get an A. Lots of extra credit drops lowest test score and scales. Do the extra credit and owl homework and you should have no problem doing well.
Lectures are good, gives ample extra credit, gives lecture notes ahead of time on bb. Even with bad grades on tests you can still pass with at least a C so stick it out until the end. Great help even by email Drops a test grade, gives quizzes, can ask him questions, gives curves left and right for tests. If you miss class you miss iclkr xtra cred
Literally the most boring lecturer I've ever had in my life. The exams are not reflected by the math problems in owl. Questions are mostly conceptual. I failed all of the iclicker quizzes.
Dr. Huchital was very great as a professor. He gives a lot of extra credit and he is willing to curve. He knows that us students are human and we make mistakes, so he is willing to compromise. If you are taking chemistry at FAU, take Huchital. He is the best one out of them all.
Huchital is a great teacher for general chem 1! He's very soft-spoken so his lectures can be boring. Make sure you show to class because he will asked iclicker questions which are used as extra credit and participation points. Make sure you finished your owl homework extra credit's quizzes on time!!! Don't expect curves on test! Work hard!
He is a cute old guy that is really passionate about chemistry. Most students have a really hard time passing the tests. He will tell you he teaches at a high level and he really does. Its a tough class but at the end of the semester most people pass the class even if they fail the tests.
Huchital is a nice guy and gives lots of extra credit and the homework is VERY beneficial to your grade and can boost it A LOT. Lectures are tough to understand and tests are hard but are always curved. If you do the homework and fail the tests, you can still pass with a B or C.
Long non-interactive lectures. Kind of boring droning voice. Has TAs do a lot of the office type work.
Huchital is alright but he is hard to understand since he speaks VERY softly. Lectures are tough to understand and tests are hard. The homework is plentiful so make sure to stay on top of it. Theres a lot of extra credit. Remember you need a C to pass.
Awesome professor.
he got saba as a T.A. and she fire also he does give a lot of extra credit homework and opportunities to pass once you do the work you will pass even if you fail the exams. love you saba!!!
Excellent! Would take any chemistry class with him. He is always there for you.
Go to class, do the online homework, do the practice problems he sends out, and you should be fine. His lectures are pretty thorough, but he sometimes goes bit off topic. Huchital wants you to succeed, but you have to put in your share of the work to do so. Don't save the homework for the last minute.
Amazing class! Chem isn't the easiest class for many student but Huchital gives you all the information you will need. He is a very nice guy. I ended up passing the class with an A and not even needing any extra credit help. If you do the homework/quizzes and ask for help if you need it then this class is an easy A.
Professor Hutchital is a great guy he honestly cares about the success of his students. I went to his office hours numerous of times and he was eager to help me out. Do your OWL homework as soon as you can if not you'll regret it. He gives plenty of extra credit so take advantage of it. I failed two tests and I still got a B+ for the class. STUDY!!
Such a sweet and lovely guy. Always their for you. Class is straightforward. Chemistry department should have more of these type of professors teaching chemistry along with Dr. Sempertegui. Roche, Lepore, and Haces are a disaster. They need professors who care about students learning not professors who are more interested in making money.
I never really payed attention to any of his lectures and I taught myself mostly everything for this class but he is very kind, and he wants everyone to pass. As long as you complete all the homework and extra credit you will pass.
Dr. Huchital himself is a very kind man. He knows he's teaching a hard subject so he gives a lot of extra credit as well as drop the lowest test grade (not including the final). He does give A LOT of online homework, however, you get a lot of time to do it and you can easily get 100% . Doing the HW, SI, and reading the text will bump your grade.
Do all the homework and extra credit possible ,if u don't even have a hint of whats going on in chemistry take HIM !!!!!!. wicked curve !!!! . plus he's the sweetest professor .
Dr. Huchital is very nice man and really wants his students to succeed. He is very quiet and can be confusing at times, but overall he is a good professor. He offers plenty of extra credit to help with your grade. Just do your hw and you'll be fine.
This is an AMAZING PROFESSOR!! PLEASE TAKE HIM!!! HE IS VERY SMART, FUNNY AND ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP!!!! I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN! I WISH HE TAUGHT ALL THE SCIENCE COURSES!!!!
Huchital is a sweet, kind, older man. It is true that even if u fail all the tests u can still pass by doing homework and extra credit. I feel that huchital was not too good at helping students understand things and it doesnt help that it is a big lecture hall. I dont know anything about chem after taking this course but i passed.
IF YOU CAN TAKE HIM DO IT! he is the best.
Amazing professor, made me understand the basics of chemistry. All of his extra credit makes this class impossible to fail.
Huchital made CHM2045 so easy! He reads out of the notes that you don't have to buy, but he's very knowledgeable. You don't have to, but the book explains material that isn't quite understood in class. Lots of extra credit and homework is online, but it's nearly impossible to fail this class. I'd so take him if I had the opportunity!
Great Professor! He is very passionate about chemistry, so lectures are more pleasant. Just be sure to pay attention in class. Lots of extra credit is given. I would recommend taking him over any othe CHM2025 professor.
He is a very cute professor and kind he teaches nicely and gives a lot of extra clicker points.
I didnt buy the txtbk but I did get the powerpoint notebook (since txtbk is avaliable online with the hw). Do the hw it help understand the material. Test #2 is pretty tough so prepare! memorize the acids &bases. Make sure you understand how to do conversions and calculate formulas! Go to the SI sessions. If you put in the effort you will do well.
Huchital is a kind older professor, but he wasn't a great at teaching. Yes, there was a bunch of OWL HW and extra credit (that only opens when you reach 50% completion in the HW), but due to his poor "teaching style" in the lectures, it was difficult to complete. The textbook is a bunch of ppt. lectures notes which I didn't find helpful at all.
There is a lot of extra credit. There are three exams and the final exam. He drops the lowest of the three exams and replaces it with bonding. There is a lot of extra credit so you can easily pass with higher than a B, even if you get Ds on all of the exams.
He is such a cute professor and sweet. He gives lots of homework and extra credit. He'll drop your lowest exam grade and it's hard to not get an A with all the extra credit. He's great. :)
he is a really sweet professor & genuinely wants everyone to learn & understand chem. he isn't a great prof tho like he didn't teach me anything, i learned everything on my own. but so so much extra credit, but try not to mess up on exams even tho there's a drop. he made a mistake with my grade & gave me a C when I had an A so be careful.
Hes a really nice guy in general, but not that great a teacher. If you work hard, youll be fine. Do NOT rely on his lectures, as they are very confusing and were impossible to pay attention to. You will have to read the book to understand anything. I wouldnt have gone to lecture if it werent for the participation points.
This professor is slightly hard to understand, very quiet. Seats fill up in the front so be sure to get there promptly. Homework is online & worth a lot, there is extra credit. The exams are pretty straight forward if you pay attention to lectures & put in work at home. Not a hard class to pass, the professor is mediocre.
His lectures only confuse the material, and skipping them makes the class easier. You can learn what you need from SI meetings, the discussion and the lab.
I had Dr. Huchital for CHM 2045. He is excellent; very helpful during class and especially in office hours. He is kind and caring and really wants to see his students do well in the course. Make sure to visit him during office hours when you have questions and need help understanding the material. The course had online HW, extra credit, and exams.
Dr. Huchital is a calm professor. There are a lot of extra credit in the course so you should not fail if you do all the homework and extra credit. This class is doable if you just follow the course material and do hw and extra credit.
Chemistry is a hard subject point blank. Prof. Huchital knows his stuff but sometimes I felt that he has been teaching chemistry for so long, and it's so easy for him that he forgets that he has to explain every little thing. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK. I went to SI sessions, and youtubed a lot of the concepts in order to understand them. DO THE HW!
Dr. Huchital is very caring and gives so so so much extra credit and even curves every exam by at least 10 points so this class is honestly very very easy. I just don't think he is the best at explaining chemistry and he can be confusing at times. Honestly I kinda pay attention to his lectures but learn through the homework more so and on my own.
The homework and extra credit can make or break your grade. This was my second time taking this class and I passed because of this professor. Lectures are very heavy for understanding the material but class isn't that dreadful. I enjoyed this class way more taking it with this professor the second time.
I didn't really understand Professor Huchital during lectures, but he is willing to help you out. If you know you're not that good in chemistry I would definitely recommend doing all the homework and extra credit. He gives plenty of extra credit to help your grade. Also, attend Si sessions it really helped me out with the material covered.
get a tutor
As long as you do all the HW, quizzes, and extra credit quizzes you will be fine.
Okay, so I recommend Huchital for Chem 1. It is a difficult course which requires a lot of extra help either through attending SI sessions or looking up youtube video but his lectures are hard to follow so I felt it was important to find other ways to learn. Make friends in the class quick!! and form study group chats, trust me it is important.
Doesn't take attendance. Lecture&PP in a book form u could buy. The people I know who did go to lecture said that lecture didn't even help them. Kinda boring lecture & goes off PP. Hw & book online. Easy quiz after every lecture to help ur grade. Extra credit quizzes in hw section too. Do all ur hw, quizzes, & EC, you'll pass even if fail the tests
He is sometimes difficult to understand. I passed the class with an average of a high C on my exams and a D on the final. I did all of the homework, minimal extra credit, but got an A in lab and discussion. The course is ppt based and it's helpful to buy the printout version.
although attendance isn't mandatory I would recommend everyone going for the clicker points. There is so much extra credit - if you do all the homework and get a good grade in the discussion class and have a good amount of clicker credit you will pass this class with at least a B+ if you get an average of 55ish on all your exam(including final).
Professor Huchital is a great chemistry professor. His lectures can be a little hard to understand since he tends to talk low, but sit in the front and you'll be fine. Do all homework and extra credit! Exams are not bad and there's a curve for each. Lowest test grade is dropped. I wish he would teach chem 2 but overall nice guy and nice professor.
I actually did not attend most of the lectures, I worked with a tutor. I failed the first two quizzes and did great on the third one and the final. I ended up passing the class with over 100 points. Do your homework and you will be fine.
I regularly skipped lectures in this class. Just make sure you do your homework and extra credit. I ended up needing a 35% or above to get an A+. I got a 104% overall grade. Super easy if you put time into it. As long as you dont slack off, youll be fine. Remember its a chemistry course, its not going to be a walk in the park.
The lectures were easy to follow, but it's chemistry so it'll be difficult here and there. The only thing I didn't like was when he did examples on the board he just wrote everything down without explaining where numbers were coming from. Everything else was fine.
prof. huchital is a great teacher. he curves the exams, drops one of them, gives homework (helps grade a lot), gives a lot of extra credit, and answers any questions you have. go to class because he does iclicker and if you skip that itll destroy your grade. i finished w a 101 A and did terrible in highschool chem so if i can do it so can you.
Professor Huchital is very sweet. He truly wants all his students to succeed in chemistry and is always willing to help the best he can. The material is difficult and homework is very time consuming but that is expected since it is chemistry. If you put in effort and pay attention in class you should be fine. Go to the free SI sessions as well
Buy his book of lecture notes, show up to class, do the homework. If you have half a brain and can retain information or take educated guesses on tests you'll be fine. The grading is super lenient, you can literally get a C on all the tests and pass the class with an A.
Take chemistry whenever you have time, i did with 17 credits (not a good idea). He is really good at his class yet it is a requirement for you to read on your own. Homework can be overwhelming when you dont know the topic due to time. You can pass the class with a C in all tests (drops 1).
I never withdrew from a class before until this one. I wouldn't recommend his class unless it is the only hard class you will be taking and/or chemistry comes naturally to you. You will have to do a lot of reading, self teaching and staying after classes for TA sessions in order to pass this class. You need a clicker to participate for attendance.
hes the sweetest and kindest person ever! he truly wants his students to pass his course and does everything he can to help you, I ended up passing the course with over 100% (he drops lowest test, gives tons of EC, and his SI leader is the best) also if you go to his office hour he will literally give you the answers to the hw! truly the sweetest
Such a nice professor! Offers so much extra credit and his canvas quizzes help your grade a lot! Thought I would fail chem but I ended up getting an A! Got a D on the first test and an A on the second! He drops the lowest exam and I ended up passing the final with a C! If I can do it you most definitely can!
He is one of the best professors in FAU! This class was actually my easiest science class. He gives out a lot of extra credit and he also curves a lot on tests. I recently just finished my chem classes (up to organic chem2) and decided to give this professor good feedback! I got over 100% on the class because of all of the extra credit he gave.
Dr. Huchital is a kind, funny man, but a little hard to understand at times. His lectures are somewhat confusing- you really have to do the homework and practice the material to understand the concepts. That being said, if you do those things, the tests should be pretty easy.
I really enjoyed his lectures. He can be difficult to understand and follow, but he wants his students to pass. Try when you go to the group activities with the TA's and your grade in that class counts as a test in his. So much extra credit. Give the class your effort and you can have a good grade easily.
Since we were online there was a lot of teaching yourself. He made instructional videos, that were very helpful. The tests get curved a lot and they were open book open notes. He gives extra credit which really boosts your grade too. Overall, it seems like he really wants you to succeed.
Chemistry is a difficult topic so youre going to need to do more work than just attending lecture.I recommend doing practice problems on your own and attending tutoring. Attendance isnt optional but it definitely helps to attend class. He goes over practice problems and explains concepts. Test are easier than the homework but study everything!!
lots of extra credit and curving because everyone in my class literally failed every test. he's really nice and pure but the tests can get really hard. lectures are not mandatory. the tests are worth like 80% of your grade so study and actually open the textbook unlike me.
Chemistry is my weakest subject, but he made it understandable. Try to actually learn from this class because CHM 2046 is hell. He curves the tests, but kind of wish that he dropped a test to help us more. Do your homework as it should help you with your grades. Good luck.
I took this class prior to the pandemic. It was very difficult, and most of the exams had to be curved up from Ds and Fs to Cs. Most people I know barely passed this class with low Cs. Its difficult material and I dont feel he conveys it effectively, and gets off topic easily. Hes nice, but I didnt find him effective as my chem prof.
His lectures are very confusing. It's easier to pass tests if you just read the book. There are four tests + a cumulative final, all open book. He can be very rude sometimes and doesn't explain concepts well. His tests are somewhat hard and you definitely need to study a lot.
Dr. Huchital is a nice professor, but he teaches pretty fast and the material can be confusing in my opinion. The exams are somewhat hard, although they are open notes, but he does give out extra credit which can help your grade a lot.
Professor Huchital gives many example problems to help understand the material. But to really understand this class you need to go to supplemental instruction lectures. By just his lectures you will not understand the material because he goes very fast. Also the workbook pages help.
Kind most of the time but his email responses (for questions about a problem following an exam) leave a LOT to be desired. Lectures dragged especially as we got further into more complicated topics and he does go quite fast. Doesn't leave you with many resources you if you want to pass you need to study, do the extra credit quizzes, and take notes.
There's a hw assignment every week along with short quizzes which are all extra credit. i should preface this by saying I absolutely suck at chemistry so I would've struggled regardless of the professor. I guess prof H at least made it bearable.
Professor Huchital is nice, but he does goes really fast during lectures and it can be really confusing. The homework and exams are manageable, but there are lots of quizzes that count for extra credit.
For someones who really struggled in this class, I was still able to get an A. You definitely want to attend the lectures and read the material. He'll curve tests so that the class average is 70% and if he makes mistakes on the tests he automatically gives everyone those points. I recommend attending an SI and/or tutoring with this course.
This is a very hard class, but that may be because chemistry is a hard subject. His lectures are not very engaging, and the test averages are typically very low, but he gives many extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. If you take advantage of that and use extra help from SI or tutors, you might get an A or a B.
Professor Huchital is a great professor. He is very understanding and if you need help he is quick to respond. He gives a good amount of extra credit which is really nice since this is a hard course. He gives OWL homework and quizzes every week which are due Sundays.
huchital more like CLUTCHital. one of the most decent chem professors at fau and actually cares about his students. lots of homework and test heavy but also lots of extra credit. youll be okay.
It is hard to hear him in his lecture and they arent even recorded. Going to SI sessions>lectures.
Professor Huchital is a decent professor. There is a lot of homework but the homework helps you practice difficult problems. I would say that he is a fast lecturer but other than that he is great.
the tests are HARD. If you dont study e v e r y d a y for this class, its not going to be easy. But the professor is not that bad. Participation with the clicker is part of the final grade.
he's not too bad but it's a hard class. lots of study material and he doesn't post lectures so if you miss it you miss it. your grade raises like 2 letters at the end of the semester. DO ALL SI SESSIONS AND YOULL PASS
1st this is a hard class, but if you go to lecture, do the homeworks, do the quizzes and attend SI you should be fine. He doesnt record lectures so you need to go to class, but he gives a LOT of extra credit. He cares about his students so if youre struggling go see him during office hours and hell help you out
I will be honest and say I completely suck at chemistry, however I managed to get a B in this class. I got a C on all three tests & an F on test #2 (BEWARE OF TEST #2STUDY!). Asking other students who did well on test, most said they studied the textbook or created a study group and taught topics to friends. EXTRA CREDIT WILL SAVE YOU DONT WORRY!
This is a very challenging class. If youre lucky enough, youre class will create a group chat and most ppl who understand the material will help u out and send pictures of worked out problems & explain in detail. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND helping one another in this class to succeed. Dont be ignorant/gate keep answers. RESPOND to classmates.
I had a lot of prior experience with chemistry, so this course was a breeze for me -- however, I know most people don't like chemistry, and most people struggled with the material. Good news: tons and tons of extra credit + I've heard the SI sessions are very helpful. Lots of resources for you to be successful with chemistry at FAU!
Big Daddy Cluchital was the greatest professor that I have ever had. When I came into his class I was a struggling senior and I was on track to graduate 2 years late. I was diagnosed with leukemia 3 months before I took his class and I can say in full confidence that he cured my cancer. He is the greatest professor I have had.
he really cares for his student's success and i enjoyed his lectures, i could understand him perfectly fine, yeah his mic is sometimes too loud but thats better than being too quiet. there is a workbook to fill in during his lectures and its pretty helpful. also there are iclicker questions during lectures that are a small part of the grade.
I solely passed because I discovered SI Sessions. I sat in the very front for lectures and still had difficulty hearing him. Half of the time, I felt like I was teaching myself through textbooks and SI sessions. SI leaders carried this course.(Took Fall 2021)
I am not the best at chemistry but Professor Huchital really cares about his students. He has a passion for chemistry and will answer any questions you have.
I wasn't good at chemistry but passed with a high B. He rounds test grades if the class average isn't 70. Homework and quizzes he changes to extra credit at the end of semester. iclicker he didn't really care about attendance since he said he'd give everyone 35 points.12 question extra credit quiz which was added to final grades, average was less40
I honestly believe this teacher should retire! he has a really hard time hearing you have to either scream in his ear or write your question down for him to be able to help you out. If you have no background in chemistry you will struggle. the SI sessions are the only way I understood the material.
It is beyond me how this man is still teaching. He speaks like Mr. Mackey from southpark, the homework takes forever and his lectures are more effective at inducing sleep than an ambien. FAU needs better chem professors- seriously! At least there is extra credit. I just stopped showing up to class
Chemistry isn't my best subject, and Huchital didn't really help with that. Very nice person, but his teaching doesn't really get the information across well, and he's sometimes difficult to understand, and I had to guess my way through most of the tests, BUT he's definitely earned the nickname "Clutchital" with how much he curves exams.
Don't bother asking him questions because he cant hear anymore. He's mid, I recommend going to the SI sessions if you want to actually understand the topic. Great person, mid professor. If you're willing to take morning classes, take Titos class.
Chem is hard but this man made it harder ngl. hes tiny and cute but has a hard time hearing and moves rather fast in the lecture. I found myself just teaching the class to myself. He seems very excited about chem but its time for him to retire with peace and love
He is very sweet, but he is not in charge of the clicker information or other grading information. He will tell you that you need to speak to Tito. The class is just hard itself, but he does his best to help you pass. If you have questions you must email him as he cannot hear. Do the homeworks and do not miss class you will need the participation.
Huchital teaching methods are awful. Makes learning the material 2x more difficult. lectures are pointless. SI leaders do a better job teaching this course than he ever could. Make sure you find a good SI leader & study their exam guides. Them and youtube saved me in this course. absolute trash teacher.
He is almost deaf but such a sweet guy. His lectures are very dull and hard to follow, but I went to get iclicker pts. I mainly studied the workbook, took notes from textbook, reviewed SI practice questions, and took pics of his iclicker quizzes to get an A in his class since some questions he show in class come exactly on the exam.
This man is the reason I changed my major to a science track. He urged me to take Chem 2 after I took Chem 1. I had a bad relationship with science until taking his class. His course was challenging for me and took a lot of effort, but he was always available in office hours to help.
This guy's really nice but his lectures are super boring and you can never really understand what he's saying (both audibly and he's not very good at explaining things). Gen Chem 1 isn't too hard though.
