Very hard class! I will not take this professor for history 110!! His quizes are too hard!
Great guy wants to share his knowledge, but not in a teaching manner. Class is extremely boring and lectures barely skim the information you need for the test. researching and serious study time needed. If you normally wait andthen study guide or key term study his tests, dont look this way
Get ready to work your tail off. He assigns a lot of work, and checks it every week. Class participation is a must if a good grade is to be acheived.
He is very helpful and nice. It's a lot of work but it will be for a History class.
This instructor teaches in group assignments, lectures, and videos and is far from boring. To pass the tests reading the text book is required but we are in college. He also assigns high point extra credit and is very accomidating and helpfull. Highly recomend this teacher.
I liked this prof enough to sign up for a second class with him. It's alot of reading and lots of writing... but this is college. If you do it all and you show up every class with a good attitude ready to discuss, you'll do good. The tests were open note and multiple choice... He lets you drop a test and he will help you anytime w/ papers.
Good Teacher. Good classroom discussions.
Professor Igou knows what hes talking about and he's really nice and fair but his lectures are really vague. I feel like he jumps around a lot, and I get so confused! Maybe that's just me but I've never had that problem before. For ex. if the slide is on one period of time, he starts saying what WILL happen eventually. He is hard to follow. He did give us extra points and retakes and he was very considerate and friendly.
Great Teacher! Not too easy and not too hard!
the class is pretty fun, not boring at all, but his quizzes and test are a bit tricky, refer to the book on those, and he is a fair grader on essays, he gives u a grade according to the effort you put in, overall you can manage a C pretty easy, but if you want the A, do all the HW and read the book
Critizes and put students down, how they deserve their low grades. Reinacting the experience of abuse from his previous Hitory Prof. Does not lecture well, shows good revelent films. Gives so much work that you're swamped and can't absorb the material and end up just trying to fill in the banks.
This class you had to read a lot, your lectures are powerpoint presentations, you have 2 midterms in an essay format, and most of the work you do is helpful to your quizzes. You get to use your notes on quizzes and he generally skips a lot in regards to lectures. So if you want to learn this way this is the class for you.
Took this class online. Syllabus was so difficult to understand. Tons of reading and writing. Midterm sucked so bad that he revised his syllabus and changed things. Quizzes are very hard and don't give you enough time. Definetely would not recommend unless you love history. If you are like me and not into history - find another teacher.
Certainly a lot of reading. But I found most of it useful. A lot of "should know" info about America. Tests are pretty hard, but you can work in groups so you have other brains to help you out. If you do the work and pay attention then you'll do fine. I didn't take any notes. He explains everything often enough for you to get it.
prof.Igo is wonderful teacher, a lot of reading, but he is a fair teacher cares about his student this is my second class with him online.
Good teacher. He cares for his students who are not succeding in the class. Does every effort to find another solution into helping students achieve a higher grade. Passes out a lot of handouts. Powerpoint teaching curriculum. Tests are hard
I hate history but he made class very bareable, maybe even enjoyable.Lectures are entertaining & he loves student participation.Read txbk,go to class. I sucked at the m/c quizzes but loved take-home essay midterm and final exams.I got a B even though my quiz scores were always way low because my essays were good.Awesome!Taking him again.
Fun teacher, good sense of humor. Lots of reading and homework but all easy to understand. Quizzes can be tricky but takehome mid-term and final were really easy. Overall really liked him, taking another class with him now.
He is an awesome history professor. The pervious comment about him criticizing his students was because the whole semester many of the students in class were disrespectful of him and the class so he said what needed to be said. He does a great job teaching and I look forward to taking another class with him.
I like this professor very much
I like this professor very much
really cool teacher. learned lots from him. do the homework and youll do fine in the class
Professor Igou is a very professional teacher. I learned alot from him and by following his instructions, I got an A in the class. He is also very HOT!
Great person! Test are hard because you have to read between the lines. The answers are in your face. He's very understanding. I would def recommend him...
I TOOK THIS PROFESSOR FOR WESTERN HISTORY. REALLY CHILL TEACHER TEACHES REALLY GOOD. IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO HIS LECTURE YOU'LL PASS. I GOT AN A WITHOUT THE HAVING THE BOOK. TEACHES GREAT. THERE IS LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT AND VERY UNDERSTANDABLE. :)
Awesome teacher, keeps tabs on attendance, extra credit given, activities fun and interesting. Great lectures, learned alot especially because we do lots of group work and we can help each other as well. He is always available for help.Sorry put wrong sect. #, can't remember #
He is a very nice person. Very helpful if you ask him doubts in the class. Got a problem with an assignment, send him an email and he will make sure that your problem is taken care of. This methodology of teaching history is very different and good. It created an interest in me for learning more and more.I took both his classes of hist 105 and 106

very easy passed the class without having the book. well i guess i am good in history. teaches it very good that you don't need a book. has group tests. and final and midterms are easy. lots of extra credit.
Yes, he is nice, but unfortunately he is our professor Chick, will damage your GPA. Hard and expensive class. A LOT of reading and writing- 5 essays, 4 quizzes.
Assigns way too much work in short periods of time. Forgets that people have other priorities such as other classes and work. Terse, unhelpful.
Im not a big advocate for history but he made it so interesting. What a great teacher, he gives a lot of reading but you need it for the tests and it helps you learn. He lets you take groups tests, gives a little bit of extra credit. As long as you turn in journal assignments and do well on the midterm and final you will pass. I def. recommend.
Refreshing to have a history teacher who teaches HISTORY not their political agenda during class. NOT a piece of cake, makes you THINK. Not for people looking to skate. AWESOME if you actually want to learn something.
You can learn a lot from this class, that is, if you are prepared to dedicate your life to the subject. Assigns a ridiculous amount of reading and grades hard on essays. If you don't show the same interest in history (if you don't make it your life), he will mark you down, get bitter, and assign your class more homework. Do not recommend.
as long as you do the readings and write the essays you'll do fine in his class. his quizes in class are group quizes which gives you every chance for an A
Online 106 was a bit tedious but wasn't hard at all. keep up with all the due dates and you'll do fine
Tremendous amount of work, but if you plan your life, work, schedule accordingly, should be a piece of cake. Bad if you don't. Actually a fun class but that's because I'm a history major. I mean I hated my zoology class but some people in my class seemed to breeze through it. I didn't plan my schedule accordingly. Nice and helpful prof, take him.
awful teacher, if your major is history and you are into it then take it, if you taking for general education then forget it. All i did is study, but writing journals is insane.
This was a great class! I loved the teacher and the mini projects were fun and enjoyable. He is a great instructor. I will take all my History classes with him. work was ok, its college so...
Online. He made learning fun and interesting. If you love research & writing this is a great class! Insightful assignments offering something to interest everyone. I am so happy I took his class, I actually enjoy History now.
This guy assigns a RIDICULOUS amount of reading. Yes, it is important to read lots of materials for comprehension but it is also important to recall what you read. You can't exactly do that when you've read dozen of articles in a matter of days. I find myself rushing through them so I end up not getting much out of them at all. Take someone else.
He knows a lot and makes it easy, you can ask him many questions and he would come up with the right answer. Exams are on the easy side, multiple choice. Assigments are reasonable. I recommend you take his class.
He's horrible. Do not take him. His class is time-consuming and assigns a ridiculous amount of reading for only a 3.0 unit class. I never was a fan of history and had high hopes for this class, but he just made me dislike history even more.
This professor gives a lot of readings, and they're not even reasonable anymore. He just assigns them to keep the students studying for his subj even though it was not really needed. Too much assignments and tests, it feels like you're taking a 5.0 unit class
Big on class participation. Showing effort and caring counts big in his class. LOTS of reading (Yes, a pain at times) though he doesn't expect you to be an expert on it. Just contribute what you can to discussion. Tests are online, open book. Assignments are interesting and new. Easy to talk to and understand. I like his style. Recommended.
Prof Igou is a nice guy, a fair grader and he's not boring. I don't know what else to ask for from a history professor. It's history so there's a considerable amount of work. Big on class participation and you have to work for an A. Overall, he's a great teacher.
if you dont like to put up with hardcore teaching and assigments than move to another state. Prof Igou's class was very interesting and fun. he pushes you to the limit. i recommend everyone who wants to learn for real to take his class.
Love this guy no homo. I took a 630-940pm class with him so the class obviousl wasn't very live but he is so helpful, always in his office, and big participation class. he sets the scene perfectly and watches students tear eachother up and we learn ALOT in the process. very patient, open to any opinions and I am taking him again. well earned A
This Professor was extremely difficult in my opinion. And he assigns Portfolios to be due early in the semester. I don't recommend taking this class.
Requires lots of reading, A LOT of class participation, very fun, bubbly guy. Makes lectures interesting at times. Lots of assignments at one time, lots of projects and reading.
IGOU IS THE BEST! Hilarious! history is his LIFE. Born and raised in Michigan/Wisconsin area and is a versatile history teacher. he is very understanding with your schedule and will work with you, but keyword there is WITH you not FOR you. he has his own testing system which teaches the importance of teamwork and knowledge. textbook-Important. A+++
Amazing professor! He teaches and tests in a way that allows you to actually understand the History, not just memorize the material. A lot of reading, and the tests are challenging(open notes though) I recommend him if you really want to learn history and have a bit of challenge. If you want an A, you'll have to work for it, but anyone can pass.
Not easy, but not unfairly hard either. By far the smartest overall prof. I've ever had, this guy knows about everything. Lots of reading, but his lectures are never boring or dull; he could keep you interested on any topic. Highly recommend him if you want to learn, not if you want to just scrape by and "pass." this isnt that kind of class
This professor has the most boring lectures ever. It's so boring that when your in class 15 minutes feels like 2 hours. Everyone is texting or zoning out. Half of the class dropped because it was unbearable. Avoid at all costs. His tone is weird. He talks like a know it all. ALERT! CAUTION! DANGER! Worst class ever.
Save yourself the time and avoid this professor.
I enjoyed Prof. Igou's class. Most of the academic readings were left on the political spectrum, however, he was rather fair in terms of politics (which is inevitably present when it comes to history and perspective). I would not say his class is easy, but I worked hard and earned an A. I learned a lot and will be taking his 110 course.
I had him last year. He's very into history. Has the tendency to ramble when asked a question, but it just shows he's passionate. He's not the easiest, he tells you that from the getgo. He's fair. I didn't even do the final project and still passed the class. He even emailed me to make sure he didn't lose it. I'd take him again if I had to.
Though I will back up the fact that you definitely need to do LOTS of readings and work, but if you communicate + really be active in your learning, you'll find that Prof. Igou truly is SUPER knowledgeable about History & he always does his best help youthe class if the material becomes confusing. Tip: Study buddies help + AVOID PROCRASTINATING.
AWFUL! Absolutely horrible. Most of it is online work, and its SOOOO much reading. Like I'm talking multiple 8 page articles weekly that are all in Old English language, so very difficult to read. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Professor Igou really cares about his students and respects them. He is very friendly and pretty much never rude to students. Yes he gives a lot of assignments and his lectures may be long for some people. But he is fair and understanding. He gives feedback on your papers and they help. It's not the easiest class but at least he's passionate.
His lectures are a new style of teaching where he doesnt focus on copying dates to a test. His tests are all his own, and they make you think critically, as a historian on what you feel happened. Granted its multiple choice, but nothing is set by dates. Very kind and respectful. Understanding. I definitely enjoyed his class and enjoyed who he is
Great teacher to take History 110. Reading is a should do since he expects participation. His quizzes are easy. He is passionate about what he teaches so he gets you into it. Highly recommend.
Good professor and retty easy class
I like Igou, he was friendly and likable. There was a LOT of reading, and a pretty fair amount of writing as well (weekly journals). If you just wanna pass, it's not bad, but getting an A did require some time put into those journals. Tests were easy because we got to do them in groups! Attending lecture isnt mandatory but it does help w/test q's.
so many papers. I wrote more papers in this class than an english class. Terrible teacher, doesnt care about your grades or helping you. I reached out to him multiple times and he was short answered and not helpful at all. Avoid this instructor
wrote more papers in this class than any other class I have taken. the whole class is a lecture with powerpoint slides that are unorganized and hard to follow
He is a great professor, you just have to read a lot(at least 40 pages a night). His lectures are very entertaining. His tests are group tests and you can also do test corrections. Study the material, take good notes, and pay attention in class and youll pass.
He's a disorganized professor. Doesn't tell you how he wants his assignments done and then he will grade hard on it. He makes you do these journal entries every week and he grades them. I learn nothing from doing these, it's just me telling him what I learned... that's what a test is for. I took APUSH in hs. I learned more in APUSH than from him.
towards the end of the semester and he still hasn't graded week 1
Procrastinate and you'll find yourself falling far behind. Many weekly assignments, which are time-consuming. Expect lots of reading and writing. I don't recommend this class if you have terrible time management or are taking 12+ units or all online classes. This was definitely the hardest out of all the history courses and AP's I've ever taken.
You better get ready to read because that's all that we ever did. Readings include letters, documents, more letters, and the like. Add to the fact that those readings are written from the 1600-1800's. Expect to see 1 sentence paragraphs full of run on sentences. Oh, and there's an essay due every time there was an exam. More reading for you.
Class was easy. He's a solid choice to get your GE done.
Realized that this class is not worth it if you want credit for history class, dont take this guy because he sucks. Hasnt graded anything since week 1, lectures and PowerPoints to take notes and will give you random quizzes If you dont do the readings he assigned on Canvas. But if your looking to take a history class, I recommend not this teach.
knows what he's doing. very prideful. lots of reading, if you don't read for the class you won't know whats going on. you can use notes on the group tests, online quiz's are available for retake. i actually learned a lot, but he is a tough grader for the essays, i would recommend being as detail oriented as possible and try to participate in class
Dont take him. Worst professor Ive ever had. He doesnt put in grades and hes tough on grading. I did so much extra credit for nothing.
worst teacher in my life.. harder to get an A in this class than my science classes. Grades very hard for no reason, I don't know why he expects so much from a discussion post even and then grades extremely hard for all writing assignments. I want to see examples of perfect score papers bc he is ridiculously tough on you.
Do NOT take this class with this professor unless you have some awkward obsession with history. He assigns at least 11 chapters over the course of a week which doesn't include all the extra articles and sources he wants you to read. The amount of reading is RIDICULOUS. There's no way to breakdown this course evenly. 4 weekly assignments/papers!
This professor is obsessed with plagiarism. You will get a lot of warnings and pass the plagiarism quiz. He does not use any plagiarism detection software, he will simply accuse you of copying your work. I do not recommend taking his class.
He grades extremely hard and expects so much from every assignment. I am a strong writer and have received a bad grade on almost every assignment when every time I was proud of what I turned in. Overall, I have spent the semester worrying that I will fail this class and would not recommend anyone take it!!
Professor Igou piqued my interest in history to the point that I completed an AA in History and plan to minor in History when I transfer. I really liked the structure of 109 and 110, and he was uniquely responsive and engaged. Very understanding and flexible with accepting late work.
I have always been a 4.0 student and I try my best at school. With that being said, this class was the most painful I have ever taken. The amount of reading is criminal and the assignments are boring and monotonous. If you want to hate your life for a semester then, by all means, take this class. The professor also tends to release modules late...
One of the most understanding and flexible instructors I've had. Very lenient with late work. Let's you resubmit work for a better grade.
Gave about 3 assignments per week with lots of required reading and assignments. I took an 8 week condensed class with less work than his. Lots of long papers and required reading material, not worth it. I would find another teacher.
For context, I took this class with honors, so keep in mind my work load, etc. was higher than average. He assigns heavy reading. Many writing assignments. Many extra credit opportunities. Detailed knowledge and powerful lectures. Very flexible and willing to work with students. To do well in this class, 1) pick an argument 2) substantiate it.
Very accessible professor who also understands the struggles of daily life and the struggles it may come with is very easy and understanding to learn from and funny can make the lectures fun and not unbearable.
Great teacher because he does the small things that a lot of teachers today don't do: -lectures are direct -Despite not getting much participation from students, he still creates a discussion based learning environment -Very respectful, professional, and knowledgable -Teaches history through an impressively objective lens, way better than most
He is a cool teacher, the class can get hard sometimes with all the reading but he's a very good professor and knows what he's talking about. Only two essays and a few module assignments and discussions but overall the homework load is pretty light. The assignments are not that hard just a lot of reading not too bad.
Prof. Igou is extremely understanding and I enjoyed the material of this class. As someone who is full time student and working 40 hour weeks, I really appreciated his leniency with the coursework. I was able to turn things in a few days late if I messaged him. However, he had hardly graded at the end of the course so I do not know where Im at.
I took HIST 115A. Lots of readings/videos but they're interesting and deepened my understanding of US History. You must analyze the readings for an A. There's a couple 4 page essays but they can be turned in late because he wants you to give your best effort. Offers easy extra credit. Not a history major but I enjoyed this class.
Enjoyed Professor Igou tremendously, I struggled through this only due to a heavy work schedule yet he would always understand and respond to my emails or even reach out to me if he noticed I missed anything. Really did appreciate this course!
It's History so A LOT of reading is expected!! The hardest part about this class was definitely the final research project. Finding the sources was hard!! I chose to take Honors; I wrote an extra essay. There's a clear grading criterion which is great. Homework isn't too hard, just be prepared to read!!! Professor Daniel Igou gives great lectures!!
He is kind and made lectures enjoyable, but he didn't grade anything until the last few weeks of the semester. I never knew my standing, and he ended up being a much tougher grader than I expected, leaving no time to prepare or do extra credit.
