He's an amazing teacher. It's obvious that he cares about his students, and he sincerely wants to help them.
Bro. Judd truly cares about the individual student and it shows. His teaching style is laid-back. Lame jokes--great spirit. His classes always fill up, so get in one while you can!
He is a nice guy, but is a bit self-righteous and a bit arrogant. Just do as he says and he will love you.
Best class I have ever taken! He makes you think a little. Still worth it. Extremely insightful, he ties everything together, secular, religious, you name it. He has daily open-book quizes,a midterm & a final. Two papers. Easy A, if you pay attention(not hard) and go to class. I love Brother Judd!!!
Awesome teacher--recommended to me by Prof. Huntington. While in his class he was called as a general authority...what better proof do you need that he is a great teacher?
He had something about him that always brought the Spirit into the class. Class wasn't that hard, but you could still get a lot out of it if you wanted to. His vast knowledge of the scriptures and how they actually applied helped me understand things so that they became simple. Highly recommended!!!
If you can take this course online its way easy! Just do the speedback assignments and then the final is the same as the assignments.
Horrible. Just Horrible. I'm still dealing with post-traumatic stress syndrome...I can't say any more.
very friendly to students. good classroom discussions. told exactly what would be on the test. doesn't ask quesions that are not really necessary to the gospel
Bro. Judd is my favorite professor yet. He really is the most humble knowledgeable guy and I always came out of class wanting to go conquer the world. He's very insightful and had a lot of class participation, so it wasn't just boring lecture. Take lecture notes, and know them-be fine for the test.
I LOVE this guy! He's one of the best professors that I've had at the Y. He is fair with grading, but you feel like he is totally on the students' side. I really felt inspired every time I went to class. He made so much of the B o M applicable to everyday life. Judd is the man. I'm taking him for New Testament.
Great professor. Always felt the spirit when I attended his class. Taught how the scriptures applied to my life. However, don't take the class if you don't want to write a 10 page research paper. I learned a lot from him.
Bro. Judd is awesome! He brings the spirit into the room every lesson with great quotes and comments. He is reasonable and a generous grader. The 10-page paper wasn't bad...he is very willing to help and allows you to turn the paper in early for constructive critique and a prospective grade. Not a hard "A." No worries in this class....take it.
Great teacher! His class isn't just a lecture, there's a lot of class discussion, which I like. There's a daily quiz worth 5 points which is also how he takes attendance. Going to class is worthwhile. Midterm took me off guard. Plan to leave more time for it. Mark your scriptures a lot because you have to find specific things. Great class!
Bro. Judd is fantastic! I recommend his class to everyone. His tests aren't the easiest, but they are very fair. He tells you what to mark in your scriptures, gives you a review sheet, and is very eager to help you if you need it. He brings the Spirit to class everyday. It is so worthwhile to go! YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU TOOK A CLASS WITH HIM!!!!
Bro. Judd was fantastic! I loved going to class! He brought things into the class that you wouldn't normally associate with the scriptures--ex. gang symbols applying to gadianton robbers. The mid-term was a little harder, but he makes it up with his VERY generous curves. Very knowledgeable about the scriptures and i'd recommend this class!
Bro. Judd is an amazing professor! He teaches straight from the scriptures and quotes from the prophets and applies the scriptures to daily life in an amazing way. I've never got so much out of scripture study. The tests are open scripture and really easy if you pay attention in class and review the power points. I highly recommend him!
Brother Judd is a great teacher and one of the most humble people I've met. The class is discussion based, which makes it easy to pay attention. The tests are open scripture so it helps if you write notes in the margins but they're really not that bad since they are all about the class notes and power point slides. Amazing teacher & amazing class.
I took this class independent study since I graduated early from high school. Awesome teacher! He gives a lot of insight, and he's just awesome. I'd take from him again. You can get this course done in three weeks with independent study if you wanted to. Its easy, and I took the final in 15 minutes--no joke!
Amazing. One of my favorite classes that I've ever taken. Bro. Judd is incredible. Make sure to be there for every class-- you don't want to miss out on one lesson! He always sticks to the scriptures and gives references and dates for every quote (unlike some other religion teachers...). Highly, highly recommended!
I thought the class was really good, but there is a 10 page research paper (on a topic of your choice) and the tests are a little trickier than you'll think. They were open scriptures, but the average was still in the 70%s. Luckily he is fair and added points. He's a really nice guy and really cares about the students.
the best religion teacher I've ever had... he speaks jewish and has lived in Jerusalem most of his lifes so his insights are unlike anyother
what an amazing man. I absolutely loved going to his class. The 10 page paper is definitely doable. lovelovelovehim. He cares about his students and is always willing to help. You must get in his class.
Great Professor. gave great gospel insight and really interesting lectures. the 10 pg paper went quickly too.
Bro. Judd is a great teacher! He isn't too hard either, unlike most of my friends who got Bs or Cs in Book of Mormon, I got an A because his tests are open-book and he lets you turn in the 10 page paper early so he can edit it for you before he grades it. Highly reccomended!
My favorite BYU professor thus far. VERY knowledgable, yet kind and grandpa-ish. 10-page paper is required but he helps a great deal. You will NOT regret taking this class!
Bro Judd is amazing! He knows so much but he really sticks to the scriptures and pure doctrine. He always has the best quotes and stories. The ten page paper was slightly difficult for a procrastinator but I learned a lot from it and Bro Judd is so worth it. I would highly recommend him!
Amazing man!He has great quotes and a great testimony. You can use your scriptures on the tests so mark them well. The 10 pg. paper is really the only hw assignment besides reading but you get to choose your topic so it isn't that bad.He is a teacher who can also be your friend. He talks with members of the Tweleve farely regularly and shares insights
loved this class
What a fantastic class! Professor Judd is one of the best professors I have had...and that is saying a lot for BYU. One really can't get a similar experience from any other religion professor. The only disappointing thing about this class is that I don't have it anymore. Take good notes in your scriptures; he lets you use them on the tests.
i took my first semester from Bro Judd, and loved it. I really felt the spirit in his classes and learned a lot. I made sure i took him my second semester and finished that ten page essay so the rest of the semester was a cinch. His tests are pretty easy, just make sure u mark everything he says in ur scriptures. Really funny guy, not to out of dat
I took this class through Independent Study and it was cake. The quizzes are easy and the final was not too bad. There is no paper required like the campus course. I finished the class in two weeks online.
I loved this class. It was one that I looked forward to going to. He is extremely helpful and tries hard to help the students do their best. I highly recomentd his class.
Great teacher! Spiritual, not overzealous and doesn't dive into dubious doctrines, just a great class! Just buy a Book of Mormon and take good notes in it and you're set! I wish all classes were like his, you learn, its not too hard (just attend and don't sleep!), and so worthwhile
he has been my favorite teacher ever. he showed he deeply cared and always taught relivant information. he also graded very fairly. my only disapointment is that the class ended. if you ever have a chance to take his class dont miss it. HIGHLY RECOMEND!!!
I really enjoyed this class, and I got a lot out of it. I would say Bro. Judd is a comparable teacher to Bro. Millet. His stories always relate to the subject material and he sticks to the scriptures and the brethren. The only thing that made this class hard was a required 10 page research paper, but even that wasn't too bad.
He's totally amazing!! Not the easiest teacher you'll ever have, but the work is enjoyable and you actually feel like your studying is worthwhile. I really gained a lot from this class.
Best religion teacher I have ever had. He cares about his students and brings the spirit to class. Not too difficult but for once I didnt do the class for the grade, I just liked going to class. Make room in your schedule for Prof.
Graded on 2 100 pt tests, 1 research paper, & attendance quizes. Can use scriptures on tests and quizzes, take good notes (lectures also posted on blackboard). most days attendance quizes, but he gives hints often. Test are easy w/ scriptures. research paper can turn in early and make changes for an A. Amazing teacher, good stories,&great lectures.
I was quite dissapointed with my other religion teachers at BYU, but Prof. Judd is a whole different class of teacher. You will learn so much and most importantly, you will feel the spirit in class. Move whatever you need to in order to make room for his class.
Just a straight up awesome teacher. Great sense of humor and great person. He teaches doctrine that's backed up by the prophets. There's a big research paper, but if you turn it in on the first date he'll tell you exactly what to do to get an A.
the class was fine but a lot of work. there is a 10 page paper that is graded moderately-hard. the tests require a lot of studying and going over his lecture slides. if you want an easy A this isn't the class for you
The worst Religion Class/Teacher I have ever had. If you enjoy "drinking downstreem from the horses," as one Apostle put it, you will love Mr. Judd's class. But if you would rather feel the "Lord's" spirit and be taught by the power of the Holy Ghost, and not the intellectualized spirit of a man, then this class is not for you.
Horrible! By far the least favorite experience I have had in life so far. I am still trying to recover from pschyological/spiritual damage. I will never be the healthy again now because of this class. He declares himself to be in authority and forces you to believe his terrible concepts of reality. E.G., He thinks that drinking animal blood is ok!
By far the worst religion teacher I've had. Boring lectures where he presents his own ideas as doctrine. The class is still pretty easy (it's the Book of Mormon) but he definetly makes it boring and lacks the spirit.
I don't understand why Brother Judd has been getting such negative ratings lately. I found him to be an amazing teacher and humble man, bursting with stories and insight. He is very willing to help his students. There was an error in my final grade, and although it took him a month and a half he eventually did fix it. I fullheartedly recommend him.
He was a wonderful teacher. Whoever has something negative to say about him, has probably some screws loose (what the whole thing about "it's ok to drink blood"?). Take this man's class for a very enlightening experience!
This guy knows what he's talking about and is very interested. He teaches with powerpoints, so if you're not interested in that, stay away. He is very kind and is more than willing to give out good grades. Very easy.
I absolutley love his class! It is by far my favorite class this semester, and I always look forward to going to class. Bro. Judd is a great guy and I really enjoy listening to him.
Brother Judd is so awesome! he is currently serving in the General Sunday School presidency as 1st counselor so he obviously knows what he's talking about when it comes to gospel principles. He's very funny, extremely kind and more than willing to help the students! stay caught up with scripture reading and you'll have no problems! great class!
i love this class! Brother Judd is the best and is so willing to help with grades! going to class is recommened because he offers great indight you'd otherwise miss. Don't let his "we're going to get academic" talk scare you, its not hard if you stay caught uo with scripture reading! I would recommend his class to everyone!
Great professor! Made the Book of Mormon so much more clear. It wasn't like seminary, but much more helpful in my life. He tests on what he says in class, so attendance mandatory. Can use your scriptures for the test and write anything in them. Graded really nicely. 10 page paper not bad at all-turn in early, get graded and fix. Highly recommend!
A nice guy, his class felt more like a really good Sunday School lesson than a class.
Classes are fantastic because they are more like class discussions and he is very open to student's comments. Classes are very powerful if you participate. I loved attending class.
His class is pretty easy as long as you read and show up to every class. Brother Judd was formerly in the Sunday School first presidency so he has a lot of good insights about both the church government and the scriptures. He is a very fair teacher and shows interest in his students.
sweet
Professor Judd is awesome. He does a great job taking the concepts of the book of mormon and expanding them. Really interesting Classes as well as spiritual. Great teacher that really cares.
Amazing teacher. How can anyone say that a man who served in the Church's General Sunday School Presidency teaches his own doctrine? His classes are very spiritual, simple, and clear. If you don't enjoy them, you should probably make sure you were confirmed and received the Holy Ghost. I highly recommend him
Professor Judd is great! It took me a while to like his class...but once i 'got' him, I loved it! He teaches with so much love- be sure to take careful notes, but tests aren't impossible because all exams are open book.
A disappointment. His classes felt like a Sunday School class and I learned nothing all semester. I felt the 10 page paper was unreasonable since it didn't really have anything to do with the class.
Very personable type guy. Not very energetic--until he starts demonstrating something or telling a good story. I took good notes and took my time on the test and did well. He didn't have office hours, but he is approachable.
I agree with previous posters. I didn't really learn a lot. Teaches a lot of Mormon trivia, tells a lot of stories, but I felt like a lot of the Pure Doctrine of Christ is missing. He does have a really interesting perspective on a lot of issues, and takes a good balanced perspective, but I really felt like there was something missing in his cla
He makes you write a 10 page paper, which is ridiculous. Besides that, there is no homework, test are basic. but he doesn't ever give you a way to calculate what your grade is going to be, so thats a lil frustrating.
Bro. Judd is a great religion professor. I never had the urge to fall asleep in his class and took notes every day. Beware that you will have to write a 10 page research paper (which I think is a little ridiculous for a religion class), but Bro. Judd is a fabulous teacher and I would definitely recommend taking his class.
I was reading some of the comments, and if you aren't getting something out of Bro. Judd's class, there is something wrong with YOU not with his teaching. This was one of the most rewarding classes, both spiritually and intellectually. The paper isn't that hard, just don't procrastinate.
Dr. Judd was a wonderful teacher. I really enjoyed his class. I agree that sometimes he got caught up in Mormon trivia or his stories, but every story he told brought with it a great feeling of inspiration. I loved that in his class. The paper is easy if you don't procrastinate - you can write on whatever you want! Wonderful teacher overall.
Ugh. Everyone seems to love Bro. Judd, but I thought he had a holier-than-thou attitude and often taught his own ideas and beliefs. Lessons were boring and confusing and he often brought his own politics into the classroom. When I was out sick with the flu he was completely unhelpful when I needed to catch up in class. A very unsatisfactory exp.
A good man, and an excellent teacher. Worked hard to fit the material covered to the questions that the class presented to him. Willing to accommodate special circumstances as long as he can see you're trying hard in the class.
I was the Oct 28 comment right below and I feel like I didn't explain everything properly. I don't think I really appreciate his method of testing, but he curves the grades so you still get what you deserve. Besides that, he is one of the kindest, best people you will ever meet. Class most of the time is very uplifting.
Brother Judd is a great teacher and is very sensitive to the spirit. There are daily reading quizzes that are self-graded so be honest. The major deal breaker for this class is whether or not you are down to write a 10 page research paper. If thats not an issue that take this class.
The class was great and interesting, I actually didn't mind attending at all. He is soo caring about the students and always willing to help you out. The tests can be tricky, but if you take good notes in your BofM and glue int he lecture notes they are easy bc they are open book. The one down side is the 10 page research paper.
This review is for INDEPENDENT STUDY Book of Mormon second part. This was the EASIEST two college credits you will ever earn. Do the assignments online, take a final after studying the assignments you've already submitted and you've secured yourself an A. EASIEST RELIGION CLASS YOU CAN TAKE!
First experience with BYU religious studies, so my first impression was that there were too many facts, pointless to me (you can judge--how many miles did Nephi travel to and from the wilderness? If you love that stuff you're different), that we had to know. But second impression was great.10 page paper you get complete freedom, which was awesome.
My favorite religion professor so far. Funny, insightful, and really willing to help. Attendance is mandatory, but the tests are really easy, especially if you attend his reviews. For your first or second religion class, he's the professor I would try to take from!
Amazing professor, always keeps things interesting and has the most insightful stories. You will learn so much. Take him!
Brother Judd knows his facts. I didn't feel he truly cared about the kids, and writing a 10 page paper in religion is a bit much!
Fantastic teacher! Some work involved, but it's minimal, and it's so enjoyable that it's really not hard to fit in. I learned so much, and was blessed so much by Bro. Judd. He and sister Black are my favorite religion professors by far. He's very good at making doctrine applicable to every day life.
I loved Bro. Judd's class! He's a very gentle and spiritual man. There's in-class quizzes every day but they're not too tough. His tests are pretty hard, but he gives you a study guide with information you need to know before the exam. He also has cool stories about being a mission president in Ghana. Overall great teacher!
Bro Judd is an amazing religion professor. His classes are focused on applying the scriptures to the students, so there is very little useless trivia. There is a lot of in class discussion, and he is very willing to differ from his lesson plans to answer questions. On top of that, he is incredibly kind and cares a great deal about his students.
He did a crazy good job keeping your attention. He had a top level understanding of scriptures and doctrines and laid them out in a way that I could clearly understand. My testimony and knowledge grew tenfold. The problem, was the tests were hard and the papers are LONG! A ten page research paper! Some other too. Don't take as an "Easy" class.
I've taken Bro Judd twice now and His classes are somewhat easy; yes, there is an in class quiz every day but they're usually pretty easy and he helps with them ALOT! And then there is a ten page paper, but he is so easy going with it! And offers an optional draft. I would definitely take him again. He is definitely an inspired man of God.
Bro. Judd is a really sweet man and you can tell he loves the gospel. The daily in-class quizzes are easy if you take notes and the tests aren't too bad considering he lets you use your scriptures and the textbook with notes written inside. Wish he stuck to his power-points more but overall a good teacher and I've gained a lot of new insight.
I love Brother Judd. I want to take him for every religion class ever! He's focused on helping you become a better person
This class was new when I took it, so things were a little disorganized, which was understandable. Classes were really inspiring, though. He taught many practical principles for having a successful family, and was definitely personally interested in really helping us apply what we were learning. He told many stories which were very inspiring to me.
Brother Judd is a great man and great teacher. I took this class the semester I returned from my mission and it helped me continue to develop spiritually. There are 5 question quizzes for every class on the reading but they're fairly easy. A lot of people complain about the 10 page research paper but he grades it pretty easily. Great teacher.
Professor Judd is a great professor. His lectures are all on power point, which makes the class the content easier to understand. Also, his concepts are reinforced by scriptures and meaningful true stories. This is the perfect class if you need to understand better the Book of Mormon. You need this class!
Brother Judd was a fantastic teacher! His lectures are based around powerpoints which makes studying easier. His lecture are absolutely wonderful and he includes some great stories. His tests are not easy but not overly hard. Seriosly the best religion teacher.
You need to read a lot of text, but it is worth it. Also fyi there is a 10 page research paper that you NEED to do unless you want to FAIL!! I loved this class all together, a great teacher and a man who truly takes into account everyone's views. I would absolutely take this professor again, he is one of my favorites.
Prof. Judd is such an amazing man. He is very inspirational and so easy going. Book of Mormon 121 was such a great class from him. I loved going to class he always had awesome stories and really seemed to care about what you said. There is a big 10 page research paper but if you start it early it won't be hard. He also gives most test answers in cl
His lectures are really good!! He's so spiritual and always includes so many quotes from so many people that really make you think. His tests are tricky, some stuff on the review for tests isn't mentioned even though its on the tests. There are 2 tests and one research paper due at the end of the semester. Quizzes every class period. GO TO CLASS!
Prof. Judd is one of the most impactful teachers I've had as a student. His class doesn't require too much work: read the BOM everyday, take notes in lecture, and write one 10 page paper. His concepts are reinforced by meaningful & inspirational quotes and stories. I'm preparing for a mission, and his teachings helped me really learn the BOM well!!
Bro Judd is such a kind, spiritual man who wants his students to succeed. I enjoyed his lectures, which focus on personal experience and spirituality. His class didn't require much beyond reading the BOM and a completely manageable 10-page paper. My only complaint is that we were always behind and didn't end up finishing through Alma 29.
Professor Judd really brings the Spirit to lecture. I always left feeling uplifted. He takes time to answer questions and is more doctrine based rather than historical facts and context based. I loved his class and would take him again in a heartbeat.
Professor Judd is an amazing professor! He is very knowledgeable and cares a lot about his students. He changed the way I study my scriptures and he really helped me learn how to apply my scripture study in my daily life. I want to take more classes from him in the future. The ten page paper is manageable if you work on it throughout the semester.
I loved this class. Tests are open book and open note, but they are not easy. A bulk of the answers, if not all the answers, are in the powerpoint in class. There is a research paper you have to do, but it is on a topic of your choice.
My favorite professor and class this past semester. He is so nice and easygoing. There isn't much work and he makes everything understandable
He's an awesome guy. Sweetest man. Lectures are amazing and uplifting. Everyday I attended his class I felt like I was going to a fireside. But he's not very specific what he wants you to know for the test. You have to do a 10 page research paper as well that has nothing to do with the BoM. Requires a lot of studying. His classF. JuddA.
He cares about you feeling the spirit more than he cares about you memorizing random specific facts about the scriptures, which I loved. If you meet all the requirements for the paper, your grade will be fine. Tests aren't hard. They're open note, open book, and he gives a pretty good study guide that helps tons. Only out of class work is reading.
Brother Judd is an amazing person. He really cares about you and wants the best for you in your life! There was quite a bit of Book of Mormon reading homework at times, but it really helped bring a focus to my life. The main time-occupying activities for this class were reading, studying and writing down slide information in my scriptures.
Brother Judd is an amazing professor! He really knows his BoM doctrines and is very passionate about teaching it to others. He tells a lot of fun/interesting anecdotes in class which keep lectures entertaining. Make sure to take notes and mark up your scriptures since you CAN use them on exams. It's a tough class, but with study you'll do fine.
Brother Judd is a great guy. His lectures are interesting, but it would be nice to have more facts rather than application and interpretation. The tests were a little hard, and we do have a 1o page paper, but he lets us chose the topic, which can be nice. Not an "easy A" but definitely doable if you pay attention and mark up your scriptures.
Professor Judd is an amazing man, however I do not like his class very much. He has a very philosophical approach to the BoM, so he doesn't give many concrete facts. I have not learned as much as I expected to. His tests are very hard even if they are open book. Definitely not an easy A. He is very willing to help students though. Very nice guy.
Prof. Judd was great! He is a very knowledeable professor and he cares about how you do in the class. He has a lot of cool experiences that he shares with the class and contribute to his teaching. I would take from him again.
LOVED Professor Judd. He's so kind, humble, and experienced. His class was one of my favorites! We did have one 10 page paper, but you have the full semester to work on it, and you can choose your own topic. Get started early! His tests were a bit difficult, but he lets you use scriptures and graded on a curve in my class. I would recommend him
He is not a bad person but I did not love this class with him. 5 ? quizzes every class, 2 papers (1 is 10 pages long), 1 midterm, 1 final- both open scripture. Doesn't seem like a lot but multiple chapters of reading every day and the tests are RIDICULOUSLY hard. SLOW lecturer too. We have three weeks left and are only in 2 Nephi 15. Don't take.
He is a super caring teacher and wants everyone in the class to leave feeling better than they came in. His tests are super hard but he does curve them.
He is super nice and a good teacher!! If his class was just based on lectures, I would have totally loved it all. However, the tests were very hard, even for being open-scripture. I did well on the tests, but I wrote down virtually everything he ever said in class in my scriptures. And yes, he is very slow and doesnt follow the reading schedule.
Brother Judd is spectacular. He served in the general sunday school presidency and spoke in general conference! He is very compassionate, gentle, and personable. Every day for me felt like a spiritual feast. The workload isn't heavy, and his lectures are engaging. Please take!
