He is hard to follow. There is a huge curve at the end of the semester. You learn more about the Nebraska football team than economics.
He is a good guy, doesn't teach the greatest, but curves great. Just read the chapters and study the practice tests and you will do fine.
good class to take. just read and show up for tests. guaranteed at least a C
hes awesome
C class/ lots of stories about his daughters and the vcr down in the basement??
A very nice guy outside of class, but can't teach worth a crap. We spent 1/2 semester on TWO chapters that review principle micro concepts! Not worth the money if you are looking to get something out of the class and learn something.
Good guy, grades on a curve. Encyclopedic knowledge of Nebraska football. The only things I retained from this class are the names Lawrence Philips, Scott Frost, and Eric Crouch.
Huge curve, easy C, but tough to get an A. Tells stories about Nebraska football and how he got a student discount on tickets, then made a profit on scalping them, that was about the most I learned about economics. Also talks about beer quite a bit.
One of the biggest things to remember that economic indicators are animals, that and Go Big Red Football. You don't learn very much, but then again you can always read the book.
his class should be called nebraska football 101... he will go on about nebraska for hours, he will talk about beer, diet pepsi and somehow manage to go through a semester without talking about econ.. nice guy but dont bother showing up for class no point
He's ANNOYING!! tests are average easiness for an econ class. IN class, he tries to be funny, and is not at all. No one in class laughed except one person the whole time. He goes off on tangents too much too.
I learned nothing, and heard the same old stories again and again. Seriously only topics....Nebraska, his daughters, and some other crap. We only got to chapter 4.......seriously take someone else
He came in as a sub for our original prof who went on a leave. He's really boring. He tries to be funny, and wiggles his ugly little head when he laughs. He did NOT curve for our class.
During the whole semester i took about 2 pages of notes. The lectures are tangents, but if you read the book and you can understand econ the tests aren't too bad
Dr. Kauffman is a good professor. He will tell you exactly what he expects you to know. He explains concepts very well and in very interesting ways. No one will get a 90% or above, so there is a small curve. His tests are difficult.
He has no clue what he is talking about. He is the most boring professor I've ever had. He talks about things that have nothing to do with economics. He likes to talk 5 minutes after class is supposed to be out - but not about economics of course.
awesome teacher, guaranteed C, i like his humor, and you aint got to go to class all of the time, what else can you ask for
Honestly the most boring prof I have ever had, all he talks about is Nebraska football. It is easy to get a C though, I only went to exams and just skimmed the chapters and ended up with a C so if thats good enough for you take him.
All you have to do is ****out some answers on the multiple choice exam, and you get by. I had a B last semester, skipped half the classes, and never cracked the book. Bring a magazine because class is dry, boring, dry, and more boring.
Boring, easy C, your not getting an A in this class
If I hear one more thing about Nebraska, I'm going to puke. Get over it! This guy is gaurenteed to make you wanna climb the roof and jump off!
GO BIG RED!
I think i took one page of notes for the entire semester from his lectures. He doesn't teach much, just tells stories. Study the book well and the test aren't too bad.
exactly what the other people said. one page of notes, talks about his twin daughters, i hope you like nebraska, so boring, easy class to skip
You're getting a C, nothing higher, nothing lower. He will talk about everything except economics. Extremely boring! Curves pretty big, but you will not learn anything
i came out of his class not knowing anything more that what i did walking in. he talks more about his personal life than econ. it's the only class i've ever slept through. tests are hard and don't expect higher than a "c".
This guy wishes he was still in college--well, he talks about HIS stupid college enough to make you think so. He's stuck in the past. I also hate how he wiggles his head when he laughs. They should make him into a bobble head. He's booooooooring.
This guy is really hard. He talks about his personal life more than he talks about Economics. I suggest staying AWAY from this guy. Impossible tests...unless you have a LOT of time to study out of class.
Classes are a piece of cake. Teaches the same thing for two weeks straight.
Your getting a C no matter how much/little effort you put in the class. If you're a nebraska fan, take this class. If economics is your thing, find someone else.
Yes, he is borring and off the wall. But hey you dont even need the book. He literally teaches off of Powerpoints and other material avail on the web. The tests aren't too bad as long as you study for a few hours. Overall, I would sit through another class I didn't care about with him.
He goes over the material so slow that as long as you go to class once a week you'll be more than caught up. He is the most boring teacher I have ever had although he is a nice guy.
Easiest class I've ever had. I showed up maybe twice besides exams (as most students do). No point in going to class, unless you like Nebraska football. Good class for braindead jocks to breeze by - disgustingly easy. High school econ was much more challenging.
i don't know how i managed to do so well on the exams - i got an 'A' for the class - the tests are so hard! his lectures are useless, the average class scores on tests were 'C'!Would not recommend!
Overall fairly easy class. He is willing to help as well as talk about sports. The tests are hard but in the end the curve saves the day.
he is a good prof if you ask him for help but on class absolute useless, if you need a nap go to class because he is so boring but then i would maybe stay in bed. uses his old powerpoints.
His class is really boring. He jumps around from topic to topic a lot. Trying to follow him is really hard. He gives a practice test for you to take that helps on the real tests, but you still have to study a lot because the tests are quite hard.
This is the most boring class that i've ever taken. even if you try really hard to listen to him, you still end up falling asleep. tests are very hard especially because you have to teach yourself. Unless you feel like napping, not learning anything and getting a c, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Honestly, don't even try in his class, no matter what you will most likely end up with a C. His tests are very hard, and what he teaches in class is totally different from what his tests are on. Class averages on the last two tests were low 50's.
He is certainly a nice guy BUT his class is boring as he goes on & on. His tests are the easiest either but overall if you make the effort to try out the online tests from the textbk & approach him you'll do good in that class! He is pretty helpful when you approach him thats for sure.
although he is a nice guy, he is the worst teacher i've ever had. He jumps from topic to topic making it impossible to follow him. The class average was probably in the 50's. The only good thing about his class is the curve, but in the end it doesn't matter. I received my first C in this class
Wonderful professor. Don't let others fool you, he is very funny and very intelligent. He does not talk about Nebraska football anymore, but does go off topic almost daily. You will notice that he brings in the same soft drink every class period for the entire semester.
Diet Sierra Mist and U of Nebraska!!! 2 of his most favorite things! He is very funny! Just follow the chapter outlines and online tests and you should do good. Everyone basically gets a C in this class due to the curve, however, there are a few A's and B's as well. Good professor for the borin
Very nice guy. Easy class if you go over the notes and do the practice tests. I go to class once a week and am getting a B.
boring classes and does not finish the course on time. takes a whole lot of time on one chapter and does the rest in like 2 classes!! tests are pretty confusing too. he's helpful when you ask a question or go to clarify something, but my concern is about him not finishg the course in a balanced way.
if you are looking for an "a" this is not the class.all i have learnt from this class is how his time in st.cloud was and abt his two daughters playing soccer and his wife an accountant.he hardly talks relevant stuff in class.he doesnt complete course!quizzes SUCK.
Class is very boring, and he gets off topic a lot. Essays are pretty hard, but the curve is great! He pretty much garentees you nothing lower then a C
His grading scale rate a 50-69% as C! It's nearly impossible to fail this class. If you read the chapter's he designates and know the material you probably don't even need to come to class.
Terrible teacher! More than half of what he talks about in class isn't on the tests. He does have a nice grading scale, but that doesn't make up for how boring he is.
Great professor! Welcome to the big time, folks, where you have to actually know what you're talking about.
This was the worst class ever. He is a horrible teacher, unable to stay on task, nor does he discuss things relavent to the class, and he did not answer questions well. I do not recommend taking this class with him.
I failed marique's (macro) first test...purely book. Second time is the charm. Markt to Econ, Kaffman showed me the way. Work, your in COLLEGE!
Lets face it. Everyone that goes to WSU is a moron. Thats the only explanation. I could buy a book read it and get a much better education than attending classes here. The profs dont care. This class is eZ by the way. But I bet you get put back a year for missing gen eds. Lets face it you need a music class in order to get a job. Go WSU!
He is a good teacher if you dont mind him getting side-tracked a lot about sports and alcohol! He has an easy teaching style and I would recommend him if your not too concerned with learning a lot.
Avoid like the plague! SOOOO incredibly boring you want to poke your eye out. No personal skills with the students, doesn't care if you do well or not! RUN!
boring way of teaching, guaranteed C or better, didn't go to class barely at all...got a C...not a very fun teacher but not hard either
Although he gets side tracked alot during the semester, He really enjoys teaching and means well. Curves Tests. No extra credit. No homework. Just Tests, and an extra one at the end of the semester to replace your lowest prior score. Talks about beer a lot, which is kinda funny. Trys to make class interesting, means well, nice guy.
Stay away! Makes tests very difficult. Has a huge curve because tests are so hard. I went to every class, studied for every test, and still got a C with crazy curve.
Kauffman is a really nice proffesor. His tests are pretty hard, and it's almost impossible to get all of the points on one. Just write everything you possibly can for each answer and you should be fine. He is easily one of the nicest professors I've ever had when you talk to him in his office. Only one is an in-class exam, the rest were take-home.
Jargin and Mayyyysure..Not to be confused with measure. He rambles on about BS. He put it best himself today in class he said "anyways what the hell am I foaming at the mouth about". That sums up his class for you.
he is one of the most difficult teachers you'll meet. he is unclear of what he talks about. he is knowledgeable... yes but he talks about beer and football as much as he talks about macroeconomics. although he grades on a curve, his tests are still difficult, really difficult.
He is not very clear, his tests are extremely hard, but he is a funny teacher and if you want a class you can slack off in, this would be it. What i mean by that is, he has no homework but when test time rolls around, STUDY!
Overall I would rate him as a poor professor. He talks more about beer and football and his daughters than about the subject. It's hard to pay attention in class because he goes off an tangents that have nothing to do with it. No homework. Tests are hard and he does curve, but its a really weird curve. Take someone else if you can.
Funny dude, and if you go to class relatively often and have a functional pair of ears, you'll do fine. He essentially says the main points of the class over and over again. For a fun in class activity, keep a tally of how many times he says "hell's bells" or "bloody hell."
I rated this course as fairly easy because in essence it is. We are just into the 4th week and he has not mentioned a test/quiz/homework assignment. Prepare yourself for awful jokes and stories/side notes that go on for 100% longer then they should. I'm not really sure if Kauffman even HAS a curriculum, he just wants you to hear what he has to say.
Rambles about random stuff all the time. Goes off of slideshows provided by the book. It's hard to sit there and listen to him for 50 minutes everyday. Reading the book might help, but I haven't read it yet.
he's a nice guy, but not a great teacher. rambles way too much, i get more out of reading the book than going to his class by a longshot
Rambles way too much...terrible at explaining things and test questions are ridiculously confusing and hard. Not an easy A at all
gets way too off topic literally every class period. doesnt consider your thought when reviewing test questions, and about tests, far too difficult. the highest test scores are c's and the average of the class is at 56%. take a different proffessor
this guy is ridiculous. if class wasn't mandatory for attendance, no one would be here. I'm actually sitting in his class right now, and 6 people are asleep and 24 are on facebook. He will make metaphors about suicide and testicular cancer. Read your book, and know the vocab. If possible get out, before its too late
A very boring class. He teaches using the slide show given from book, very hard to follow. Its not uncommon for people to fall asleep or just spend the whole hour on facebook. His tests are pretty difficult as well. The average score is around a 60%
DON'T TAKE!! Kauffman is a boring and a useless teacher. You won't learn anything in his class and his tests are impossible. Take a different teacher!!!!!!
Would NEVER recommend! He should just flat out retire and save us all.
Avoid him if you can. You will get nothing out of class. Just read the book and show up on test days. There are 4 scantron tests that make up your entire grade. The one good thing about this class is that he grades on a HUGE curve. I got a 50% in the class, but that was a C on his scale.
One of those professors who is a professor only because he wants other people to be impressed with his knowledge of the subject. Average test grade was an F. I ignored the people before this comment and it was a mistake. They were absolutely right.
I too didn't listen to the people before me and I wish I would have signed up with another professor. All he does are slides and the tests consist of everything that you haven't learned, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. Would not recommend.
I did not learn much at all from this course. He makes it difficult to pay attention and keep you interested. He had to put a huge curve on our tests because students didn't do well on them because of their difficulty.
Worst professor at Winona Statue University. If you need this class like I do, take a different professor ASAP. An Online Econ class would be easier, and more informative. Rambles AND doesn't teach. Tests are hard. Crazy curve but doesnt help. Uses slides from the text website (aka lazy as well) DROP THIS CLASS NOW AND CHANGE PROFESSOR.
professor is extremely nice but he doesnt teach you anything and then he expects you to know what he is talking about on the tests. He spends alot of time rambling and most students spend time on facebook. He uses slides from the book website and if you think you understand what the slides mean, you dont because the test questions are worded badly
Terrible profesor. He rambles about absolutely nothing. Doesn't teach anything and expects you to know what is on the test (which is stuff we never learned). There is no other points besides the test. Do Not Take Him!
Nice guy, classes are impossible to pay attention in, tests are all multiple choice, no homework, you pretty much have to teach the class to yourself if you want to do well.
Hard to pay attention in class because he goes off on random tangents. You will learn more about Nebraska football than microecon. He curves a lot so an A starts at 85%, but it will drop and his C is a 55%. Just review the book before tests and you will be fine.
He is a very difficult professor. One of the worst I have ever had. He is very random and does not lecture on the class WHATSOEVER. He uses the books powerpoints and does not do any work himself. I studied for tests alot and ended up doing bad on them regardless. This class is a joke.I reccommend you take ANYONE but Kauffman. You have been warned.
Some of the Ratings for Professor Kauffman are laughable.. He's a great professor who always keeps class lively and interesting. His tests are difficult but not unnecessarily so. He will teach you and you will learn Economics if you are willing to learn. Great Prof.
Absolutely ridiculous. This professor was so bad that I actually am changing my major from business. He teaches NOTHING. If you want to teach yourself everything then go ahead and take this course, I get that it's college, but when a prof literally teaches nothing, it's pretty ridiculous. He's absolutely useless, DO NOT TAKE!!!
He would blab on and on about stuff not relevant
Kauffman is a difficult professor. He will go off on random tangents on subjects that have nothing to do with economics. It helps if you watch videos on Khan Academy -- he won't tell you this -- because that's how I'm making it through this class! Read the book, watch those videos and you will be fine. You don't really have to go to class.
Lectures are very boring, and it doesn't seem like you learn anything. You might retain a little bit of info, but overall he is just not a good prof. I would not recommend him to my friends, but I might tell someone I don't like to take his class.
Save yourself and do not take this class. Kauffman is absolutely rediculous. He's a very nice guy, but his teaching methods are well below par. If you can take this class with a different professor, or you may end up hating economics all together. I'm surrently trying to pass this class with a C and I'm an A student. Good luck!
He tends to ramble on and on about personal stories the whole class time. Don't bother buying the textbook because its online for free, he even gives you the website in the syllabus. The only positive thing about this class is that he grades on a huge curve, a C is at 55% at the highest! Tough class, I would not recommend taking it with him.
He was the worst professor. He told more personal life stories than anything about the actual course material. Don't even bother getting the textbook. Everything is online. Biggest waste of my time. Only positive is the huge grading curve.
Kauffman usually lectured everyday but tied in a life story which took up the whole hour. You don't need to go to class, you will learn more by just reading the book. Read a lot and do the quizzes he gives you and clutching a B could be a possibility. Also his curve is unreal. Take him if you like to read a lot and not learn anything from him.
Nice curve, read the text book or attend class, has option retest, gives out a little extra credit, and a few take home quizzes.
Kauffman is a great person, but horrible teacher. He goes on and on during his lectures brings up personal stories. He does not use any of his own material. To pass, you will have to teach yourself and really read the book. I would avoid him at all costs.
Nice guy, means well, knows economics.. but I didn't learn much from his class. I don't think it was too difficult of material, but most people consistently skip class (kind of dull lectures no attendance) which leads to bad test scores. The highest percentage was only around 80%, but he grades on a big curve so that student received an A
awful professor, avoid at all costs. teaches absolutely nothing, just rambles about personal stories during class. had the second highest score on test for each test and still got a C in the class. he made me hate economics and is the reason i am switching my major.
Lectures were so boring. Tests are hard. But he has a HUGE curve which makes it all worth it. I had a C all year and ended with an A. What he is saying actually makes sense, he just usually over explains it. I would take it again
I just took this class. He doesn't upload grades to online at all. He gave us 3 tests and an optional test to replace our lowest score (no homework or quizzes). I didn't learn anything in class. He goes off on random tangents the entire time. The average on tests was in the 50's. You have no idea what your grade is until he posts it after semester.
very tough class and he dosent make it easier by the way he teaches. goes off topic alot and you will end up teaching yourself the material before tests. very hard tests but offers a lot of extra credit. might take him again. tests are bassed off the textbook 100%
His lectures can be a bit dull at times, but that's not his fault. It's just not a very exciting topic. He understands that it can be difficult at time, and gives students multiple chances for extra credit. There is no homework, and I did not use my textbook very frequently.
Boring and unclear lecture, he spends most of the time just telling stories that he tries to relate back to economics but they are usually very confusing and waste a lot of time. Tests are insanely hard but he curves the class grades so if you get 50% you should get a C. You can also find the textbook online for much cheaper than the bookstore.
kauffman is a boring professor and rambles on and on about personal stories and random examples that make concepts even more confusing and difficult to understand. very nice guy and knows his stuff but is TERRIBLE at explaining things. tests are impossible and everyone fails but he curves and gives a few extra credit quizzes. would NOT recommend.
Dr. Kauffman is a friendly, approachable guy who knows economics; however, he teaches only through lectures, and sometimes they're confusing. The textbook can help make concepts more clear. He tells many personal stories, but they do mostly relate to economic concepts, and they can be helpful. He does grade on a large curve.
Incredible teacher, more then flexible with your schedule. Really a great professor. Offers extra credit and no attendance policy. Treats you as an adult.
Great person but the class is next to impossible. Would not recommend if you want to get a good grade
I would NOT recommend this teacher to any one ever! Very boring and hard to learn from requires a book but you wont use it in class. Class average test score are around 50. I know awful right? The only good thing he does is grade on a curve but even then class average scores are low.
Awful, doesn't explain material at all. Class avg was a 60%. The only good thing is he curves pretty hard, but don't expect to get an easy A.
Professor is a little slow at teaching however he does get the job done, and again attendance is not mandatory
Kauffman is a pretty cool guy. Class was interesting and while tests were tough--multiple choice and a free response section that he graded strictly--his generous curve made it reasonable to achieve a decent grade.
worst professor at WSU
Dan Kauffman was a terrible professor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. We had 3 tests throughout the semester which accounted for my whole grade. The class average for tests were D's and below. He doesn't curve either.
This professor is very difficult to follow, he gets off topic very easily and I honestly have no idea what he is talking about half the time. DO NOT take this professor if possible.
Although Prof. Kauffman does know his material and I have little doubt he is a brilliant man and knows what he's talking about, it is extremely difficult to pay attention to his lectures. Only 3-4 tests all semester long, no homework, all graded on a curve. Personally I learned a ton more material and learned it faster by just going to the library.
