Tests are kind of not on topic, however very easy class. If you come to class, no need for the book...grade is only based on 4 tests and 1 quiz throughout the year. Kinda sucks... Recommended if you want an easy 5 cr., no work inbetween tests. Also, class is fun, positive learning environment!
Great teacher expalins very complex astro physics into easy understandable english, easyest class i have ever taken a BCC, just have to come to class everyday don't skip. PS no need for textbook here!
He is a very cool and funny teacher. He explains everything you need to know in plain english. If you come to class daily and take notes that he writes down on the overhead, then you will A's the Tests. You can even drop one test, which sometimes really helps if you messed up on one.Very good teache
Dont waste money on the textbook- hes a REALLY good teacher. Hes nice, cares about helping you suceed and creates a positive learning enviornment. absolutely NO hmwk, but you have to Ace ALL the tests to get an A. its not hard though- just study and take notes in class. the planetarim is awesome
Awesome guy! Great teacher.
Hes very nice and fun and only wants to help you. It was SO interesting and i suck at every science, but i did very well in his class =)
It's a shame Knight only teaches astronomy. He knows how to explain concepts in a simplified way, but you learn a lot. He's a very positive, patient, laid back kind of guy. Tests are based entirely off his lectures. The planetarium is cool, but it's only really used to memorize specific stars for the final star test.
Dan Knight is my favorite teacher at BCC -- and like someone else said, it's too bad he doesn't teach anything else. He'd be a great Physics professor! Anyway, class is fun, his lectures aren't boring in the least, and he keeps you involved. I wish I could have taken this clas again!
Very odd teacher! Looks like Quintin Tarrintino, with the humor stylings of Conan O Brian. Very awesome class, best teacher ive ever had, really easy class, very fun class, the Planetarium is the perfect time for sleeping time, but Mr. Knight doesn't care. You can talk to him as a friend, probably the best personality in any teacher at BCC.
Dan is the best instructor I ever had. I loved him, he made science come alive for me. I would stay after class and talk with him about Parallel Universes and all sorts of things. He is a brilliant scientist and his enthusiasm is contagious. You will walk away from his class in love with science and the man.
Awesome teacher! Overall the class is VERY easy and clear. Just write down the overhead notes and be sure to know the study guide for tests. Also, DO NOT buy the books! Mine are still in the plastic and I haven't gotten lower than a 94% on his tests.
Good at explaining. Makes you like Astronomy even if you arent interested in it.
Great teacher, very laid back, funny, and a good guy. Pay attention during the lectures but don't be afraid to fall asleep every now and then. He won't mind if you nod off. Go to class, study the study guides and you will get a good grade.
Extremely helpful. Materials are well organized, and extremely clear to understand!!
This was a very fun class, and Dan was clear and easy to understand. He was helpful and interesting! It was not hard to keep up with the material or study for the tests... just make sure you take notes in class!!!
I ADORED this class. It was kinda early in the morning, so I was a little tired, but he kept it interesting, cracked jokes, and was just an all around good teacher.
This guy is great. He made the class interesting and really loves the subject.
fun and great teacher
Best teacher!! This guy knows this stuff, he's enthusiastic and aware of current events. Presents material as a slide with audio plus includes links to things around Seattle we might find interesting. Love this teacher!!
this teacher is AWESOME! He is so nice and gives a VERY nice and simple workload. Material is so interesting to learn about. He knows tons about this subject!
I LOVE Dan!!! He is VERY smart but never talks down to his studens. The tests can sometimes be a little tricky, but if you take good notes you should be fine. He's funny too, I don't see how anyone couldn't like him! He's great! By far the best professor at BCC!! Don't waste your money on a book either, all you need are his lecture notes to pass!
Great guy, great teacher, does a lot of stuff with power point to clarify his lecture. Only possible draw back for some people (not me!!) is that there is next to no homework, this means that almost all of your grade will be decided on his (easy) tests. Love the course and the teacher. Dan is awesome.
Fun, easy class; great teacher!
This is an awesome teacher and he knows sooo much. Always ready to explain things and answer questions. Really enjoys his job and subject. GREAT TEACHER! I reccomend this teacher to anyone who wants to take astronomy.
This is the best teacher BCC has to offer. He is really interested in the topics and teaches it in away that is exciting and easy to learn. Highly recommend for any classes.
dan is a great teacher. his teaching style is very clear, his lectures are easy to understand, very little note taking is neccessary and he's really funny. little homework and few tests that he takes an entire class to review for beforehand. attendance is optional, which is a nice perk.
If you take notes and review them before the test, you will get an A in the class. He is awsome! And you'll learn a lot in this class.
Great prof, lots of knowledge. I would highly reccommend him.
Truly an honor taking this class with Mr. Knight. I took his online class and regret not taking the actual class and meeting him in person. A very helpful, dedicated, humourous and fun teacher; rare to come by these days! Insignificant amount of h/w, EASY "labs" and the tests were a breeze as well. I received an A & actually learned from this class
What a great class! Very easy and very fun. Dan is great too, and is really interested in the subject, and it shows. DON'T BOTHER BUYING THE BOOK! Trust me! Just take some notes in class and go to the Science Study Center for the two 5-minute HW assignments that require the CD, they have the program there.
Great professor! He is very funny, and makes the class interesting! If you come to class and take notes every day, you will do well on the tests. All you need the book for is the cd.. which is actually kind of fun. Best prof I've had so far!
Dan is best. Really funny and interesting class. To be on his lectures was blessing.
BEST TEACHER EVER!! Easy lab credit I have taken!! If you have never taken an online class before then this is where you should start. This was my first online class and he set it up very neatly. Labs were throughly explained and it you needed help he responded promply. Homework was easy and answers are in the back of the book. Only 4 tests and he
This class is the best online class ever. Seriously, if you need a 6 credit lab, it doesn't get better then this. His lectures are short and really interesting and his tests are pretty easy if you study at all and listen to the lectures. the labs are also really cool. you will have fun and learn lots! Dans the coolest, wish i took it in person!
Took with him in Spring 2004...Still remembered he is so fun in class (despite my class starts at 8.30am)...Newaez his exams are all taken from his notes provided in class. DUN BUY A TXTBOOK!!! just study from his notes, and an A will fly into your transcript beside Astronomy 101!!!~~~
This was an interesting and fun class. I loved everything about it. The professor gave good lectures and seemed knowledgeable when he answered the questions that were asked. Just go to class everyday and take notes. He chooses random days to give out homework and his tests are based off of the notes from the lectures.
Absolutely LOVEEEDDDDD this teacher... prob one of the best ive ever had...just pay attention to all his lectures and he likes questions. And take notes you WILL enjoy him :)
Great teacher. Easy to work with. Understands students needs. I would take this teacher again.
One of the easiest classes I have taken! Teacher is great!
He is a GREAT teacher! This is such an easy class. Has great lectures and not too much homework (mostly reading). I wish all online teachers were like him. I would recommend that everyone take him; has a great personality and responds to questions right away. Also gives the option for extra credit at the end of the qtr.
Dan is a phenomenal teacher. His lectures are always crysal clear and often times fascinating. He can take a complicated idea and break it down so that anyone can understand it. The workload was minimal with only about 40 minutes of homework all quarter, but attendance was pretty necessary in order to get the notes.I highly suggest him
Dan is a great teacher. I had him online and I loved it, he pre-records lectures to help you along with the chapter reading, he gives you exactly what to study for the exams, there are labs to do but none of them take more than a half an hour, easy grader. He makes everything clear and hes always willing to help you out. TAKE THIS CLASS! hes great!
Great teacher! Great class! I wish all classes could be this interesting.
He is the coolest teacher on the planet, he is so nice and makes all his classes interesting. He knows a lot and teaches very well. All you have to do is go to class and he will tell you all the questions and answers are on the tests. I loved him and you will too!
Very good teacher. One of the best at BCC! Lectures were informative and never boring. Very interesting subject. Pay attention to the constellations, which I thought was the only hard test through the whole quarter. Buy the book and read chapters stated in the syullabus and you will have fun!
Dan is the best teacher I have ever had at BCC. He puts a Bill Nye the Science Guy perspective on all his lectures and really makes it easy for you to get involved. Take his class! It's worth your time. His lectures are interesting and there's no homework, just 3 easy midterms, a final, and a star test. I just wish he was teaching Astronomy 2!!
Having taken his class 2 years ago, & now being a student at UW, I can say with full confidence that this teacher is the best teacher I've had in my entire college experience. I've taken 4 astronomy classes & he's BY FAR the best teacher. Encouraging, enthusiastic, & obviously intelligent. Go to the star gazes, INCREDIBLE. His input is so worth it.
Very boring subject. I hated the class itself but Dan is pretty awesome.
CAKE! My only complaint is that he bad mouths astrology a lot--not that I believe in it--it just got old.
Took his online class which was pretty easy as long as you do most of the reading. Recorded lectures are short but interesting and usually pretty helpful. Labs are pretty fun too.
Awsome teacher.cares about students.always available and very helpful.answers the email prettr quickly.the best teacher i've ever had.take his classes.
This Professor is amazing, his lessons are very well done and always interesting. He doesn't assign homework and if he does it can be completed literally in five minutes. You must take his class!
This class was awesome! So glad I took it! Dan is the coolest and his class is NEVER boring! Its super easy to get an A as well! All you need to do is take some notes and pay attention in class. He goes over what will be on the tests too. Take this class!
Seriously he is amazing! Class was never boring and always easy. Sadly I had to withdraw because my load was too heavy and I needed to focus on my other classes. I am going to take him Winter quarter and you all should too. Best class I had ALL QUARTER. He knows his stuff and knows how to make it fun. Take this class before you graduate!
He was one of the best teachers I've had, and he was THE most organized teacher I've ever had. He made a subject that could potentially be very dull very interesting. The reading was a little on the heavy side and the tests were tough, but the easier homework and labs were weighted well against the harder tests.
He is pretty helpful. He answers all the emails and questions very quickly.I took 105 which in online so I never got a chance to meet Mr.Knight.He is also a fair grader and really cares about the students.BCC should be proud of him.
Took this class 2 years ago. It was an interesting class to begin with. Prof Knight is very clear with his lectures and it is extremely easy to take notes. Never even touched the book, aced all exams. He is an excellent teacher and is a very nice guy! One of the best teachers I've ever had, BCC should be honored by his presence.
he's a really nice guy. not a good class if you're not already interested in astronomy. i took it thinking i could get an easy A, but i was bored all the time because i couldn't relate to the subject. he drops your worse midterm. he's pretty engaging and the star gazes are really cool. if you're interested in astronomy already, take it for sure.
Overall hes a good guy but his test were amazingly hard. The notes that I took, only half of them were on the test. Do not take him.
mmmkkk so get this, he is awesome!Go to class, study lecture notes, and all will be peachy. He is extremely helpful and outrageously nice, so there is no reason not to like him. Get on his good side and you will be a favorite for life. Plus he makes hilarious facial expressions (another reason to come to class). O and he likes his coffee.. A LOT :)
I highly recommend taking this class. He makes astronomy really interesting. After a few weeks in his class, I was reading about it outside of class too. This class isn't very hard but it is a lot of fun.
Great teacher you have to take him. the class is so freaking awesome and easy. you go to class listen to the lecture take some notes and look at some stars. great class.
I took online class, and He is the best teacher for online!!!!! Clear instructor, Easy tests, and little homework still gave me a good grade. I loved this class!
He is AWESOME! So easy to understand, gives you class notes every day via the overhead, so you just have to copy down his notes and you'll be OK. BTW, the new projector in the planetarium kicks butt! I definitely recommend Mr Knight, he's so awesome and really funny. Obviously loves what he does.
i loved his online astronomy class, all homework taken out of the textbook has answers in the back of the book, so you can make sure you get it right and the labs were actually fun, he seems like a very cool guy
Professor Knight is great - I am taking his online class, and it's awesome! Tests aren't too bad, though you DO have to know the information. Online lab "Skygazer" is awesome, his lectures make the textbook info interesting/to the point, and he is very helpful whenever there's a problem. Do the work, and all will go well. Awesome Prof!!
Great teacher, loves and knows his subject. It is easy class when you are attending it, missing about class a week would not hurt you.
Dan is a very educated instructor! He knows alot about Astronomy not only that but he teaches very well.."gives" out notes to his students and is all around a very nice instructor! loved him! I would personally recommend him to any student who wants to learn about Astronomy!
Professor Knight is awesome. No homework, just tests. His tests aren't that hard, and he gives you a study sheet before hand. Nothing will be on the test that he hasn't gone over in class. He is really passionate about astronomy and he makes class fun. Take this class with him. He's great.
Very straight forward. If you show up and stay awake you are guaranteed at least B+
I took his online class. He assigns one homework assignment a week and one lab a week. plus 4 tests in the quarter and No final. He is a really good teacher and was very easy to understand. But he didnt like things turned in late, half credit if it is late.
Took his online class. Expected it to be easy, but the truth is that you have to work for your grade. The positive is that he's a great teacher. Wants you to learn and is very helpful. His online lectures are great and the online layout he has is great. The studyguides are also incredibly helpful. Great teacher! Highly recommend him.
Loved this class. Easy to succeed. You can't help but pay attention, because the way he teaches keeps you engaged in the class! Would totally take it again just for fun if I had time!
Mr. Knight is by far the best teacher I've had @ BC so far. There never any homework, and the tests are directly out of your notes (he'll write what you need to know on the overhead). He is a well of knowledge and makes astronomy very fun and interesting. I looked forward to attending his class. I have learned so much from dan. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
Best. Class. Ever.
He is great, super nice, informative, knows his stuff and really is fun to listen to. In the planetarium and your learning about really cool stuff. If your thinking of taking the class, think no more, dont need to read much just take notes in class like he does. Listen and enjoy youll get an A like me :)
Dan is down-to-earth and very knowledgeable. The class is fun. If you already have some base knowledge of astronomy and cosmology then you probably don't need the book. Everything he will test you on he writes down. one thing not written down is the constellations --but there are repeated in class reviews of the 25 required stars/constellations
Great teacher! He loves what he is teaching. His quizes may be tricky, but if you study it well, you will get an A.
He is a good teacher, but the class was not too easy for me.
I strongly recommend this class! He's such a good teacher and writes everything down you need to know on the projector. Learning astronomy is fascinating, and having a great and helpful teacher made it a very good experience. The planetarium is AWESOME. The material gets gradually harder and harder, but it's all stuff you actually are curious about
Don't take his class. His quizes very tricky. This teacher is a "nice" teacher, just look like. he is a very hard teacher, and he is a "hide a dagger behind a smile" person. He graded every paper very low grade
I don't recommen to someone take his class.
VERY easy class, just come every day and write down everything he writes, which isn't much. As long as you understand what he is saying and writing, you will do well. If you ask him a question he will answer you. Some say he sucks but they're only mad cause they slept in class and got bad grades. Passed with an A.
He loves Astronomy, he is patient, knowledgeable and clearly states what is needed to know for the tests (which are scantron based). He reviews stars often -which was fun! There are several in class activities that are p/f basically just show up. If you think you might be intersted in Astronomy-take his class you'll find you like it even more!!
I took survey of Astronomy with Mr. Knight in the Planetarium, and I enjoyed the class. Mr. Knight is enjoyable to listen to and likes to have fun. Gets along with his students really well, and teaches the subject quite well. Class will be a lot more interesting if you try and get into the subject of astronomy. Otherwise, it can be a bit tedious.
Took online. Not easy material to learn on your own if science is not your strength. Instructor posts some lectures to support key topics. Lots of reading. 1 online (fun) lab, a homework, and discussion board posting per week. Very well organized class and accessible instructor. Stay in front of the assignments. Open book (but not easy) quizzes.
Best class and professor at BC. I LOVE this guy- he LOVES Astronomy. The most attractive scientist Ive ever met and he knows his stuff. I earned an AAS at BC and this is the only class that don't want to end. Mr. Knight is funny, engaging and I will miss him. I was not interested in the Universe but now I love our sun, moon, planet & Dan Knight.
(online)D. Knight is by far one of the best instructors at BC.The class is pretty easy if you study and do the HW. There are only 4 quizzes and no final. HW and labs are weekly. The quizzes make up 60% of your grade, but it’s completely open book. He responds almost immediately to emails, and he actually takes part in discussion posts!
This is the third online class I have taken (the other two were for math), and this professor was by far the best in how organized he is and how he is able to explain things through text posts and lectures. Wish I could have taken it on campus to meet him!
Lecture class, gives you really good notes for the test, but make sure to take more notes than just what he writes down, anything he says is fair game for the test. Tests are 50 m.c. Study and you'll do well. but make sure to understand everything, some questions are tricky. Show up to class, he'll give random assignments. We never used the book
Amazing teacher! He loves what he teaches and makes concepts very easy to understand. He is eager to help when you have questions. His tests are relatively easy and his class is a ton of fun. I was excited to go to his class every day.
Great class! I took Dan's online course and it was a ton of great information and Dan clearly knows his stuff. Weekly labs, discussions and homework. Four quizzes in total, and he will grade you based on your top 3 scores. The quizzes aren't too bad if you study the content, and the homework well. Overall this was an awesome class!
One of the best teachers I've ever had, Dan truly knows his stuff and is always willing to answer any questions. Textbook is not really necessary although I did use it to study probably more than other people. But just show up to class and take notes. 3 tests and your lowest one gets dropped. Good looking guy. Made me fall in love with the cosmos.
Fantastic teacher, and really fun using the planetarium. Just show up every day and it's an easy and and very interesting class too. Mr. Knight makes it a lot of fun and can be very funny.
Took this class online was Dan is a great instructor! Super organized and knowledgeable, the course is an easy A!!!
he is a great teacher! He always answered really fast!! 2 chapters per week. his class is not so hard but not "easy" A. there r 4 quizz and the lowest one will drop..no final, no extra! student's average quiz' scores were about 73-80. For me, even if i got A, it was not so easy to get it! If u want to take a easy A class, u should consider about it
I took this class because I heard this class is easy (so I took this class with 2 hard classes). BUT this class is not an "easy" class. 2 chapters per week. no extra credits and usually student's average score is 74-78.. quiz is 50 questions, 60 minutes. I got A - not easy but not hard.
Take notes-everything he writes down on the projector, pictures or videos he shows you. It's all fair game for testing. 3 quizzes- 50 Q each, lowest score dropped. Final is 75 Q with 25 being comprehensive & a Star test. Very nice teacher, excited about astronomy. Not Easy. I got an A, but you need to study a lot to understand the material.
Very nice man. Eager to teach, wants you to learn. I took online, it was an easy A. Very organized with assignments and really cool (online) lab assignments.
One of the easiest college courses I've taken. If you are looking for an easy A with min. effort take it online. That being said my interest in the subject rose after taking this class. The prof is very knowledgable and helpful. The course work is well paced and effective if you put the effort forth. Astr isnt my thing, but still an excellent prof.
Fantastic instructor, very passionate about the topic, easy multiple choice tests and no HUGE final.
I loved the subject, so everything came easy to me. Is a lecture class. If you show up everyday and take notes on what he says, they're no way you can escape with lower than a B if that. No textbook, and overall cool class. Highly recommend if you want a nice stimulating class.
Prof. Knight was overall a great instructor. You'll be focusing half of the learning on the textbook and half weekly labs and lectures. One frustrating thing about the class was that a majority of the grade is based on the quiz's. Get 100% on all assignments and still end up with and B+ . If you can plow threw the boring text you'll be fine though
Dan Knight lectures were clear and it was an overall easy class. You don't need to read the book because he talks about it in his lectures. His worksheets are easy. His study guides are helpful and you'll never get lost in his class. He is one of the best instructor at Bellevue College.
Mr. Knight is a great professor. His lectures are really interesting. I was never bored and I learned a ton. The tests are hard, but if you study and take good notes you will be fine. Three tests and a final. There are also in-class "activities" which are just questions on a concept that he just taught. They helped me understand the concepts.
The class was very difficult. Lot's of reading and LOT'S of homework. The quizzes are very difficult and the labs took a long time to complete. On the bright side, you learn a lot. Teacher is also a very hard grader. Got a B+ in the class and I put in more work in this class compared to my Calculus classes.
If you're a bad test taker, do not take this class. 90% of your grade is based on tests and 10% on activities. This is not an easy class, the study guides have a lot of terms and the tests are hard. I had a lot of trouble paying attention and often fell asleep because the room is dark and warm. It was interesting, and the tests are curved.
What is already a fascinating subject gets more interesting and easy to understand. His lectures feature videos and diagrams to help explain concepts, and sometimes in class experiments to help us conceptualize hard ideas. Also he has lovely dry humor and passion for the subject. Also the planetarium part is rad. Tests are easy if you study!
Nice guy, if you show up and take notes you won't even have to study for the tests. explains things very clearly.
He's a great teacher. You can tell he loves what he teaches, he knows his stuff. Class is interesting and I always look forward to going. He's also pretty funny as well which is a bonus.
Mr. Knight was great and made everything very easy. Tests were based on the notes in class that you would copy directly from the screen that made it extremely simple to study for; if you took the notes you will pass. I didn't need the textbook at all so I don't think it's needed. Overall class was awesome, and the planetarium was used frequently.
Dan is a really great professor. I looked forward to going to class everyday. You can tell he loves astronomy and he wants to share that love with his students. Lectures are interesting and the jokes he makes are really funny. Hardly ever any homework. I learned so much! Highly recommend taking this class!
Dan is a great professor and very easy yo understand. Text book is optional. All you need to do is show up to class and take note and you are sure to pass. He is willing to meet up outside of class if you have questions. He is nice and he gives great study sheets for tests. Would take again!
His explanations are very clear, especially from his slideshows. The study guides he posts for each exam is extremely helpful, and he is willing to answer any question asked during class. Very humorous, he keeps lectures entertaining, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone thinking about taking ASTR100.
Great teacher, grades very quickly. Any question you get wrong, be it on the tests, labs, or homework, he'll explain it to you so you can understand. A gem of a teacher. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Knight was great! His lectures were very interesting and the interactive assignments were usually more fun than work. Follow the syllabus and do the work and you should be able to do well in this class.
Professor Knight was great! His lectures are very interesting and the interactive assignments were usually more fun than work. Follow the syllabus and do the work and you should be able to do well in this class.
I loved Dan! amazing teacher. He is a fairly easy grader and super duper nice! Just make sure you turn things in on time! If I could take all of my classes with him, I would.
I love professor Knight! He is an amazing professor ever. He is extremely nice, respectful, and really cares for his students. Not to mention that he is an easy grader and he gives me extra points on my final quiz. Highly recommend!
The tests are pretty hard and they make up a good chunk of your grade. This is not a class where you can skim over the textbook and do well on the test. There is a lot of reading involved as well and that is the worst part. Online labs are actually pretty interesting and I did enjoy those. This is not an easy A.
Dan is a really great instructor. His lectures are interesting and if you do some studying on the material ahead of time it'll be easier. He doesn't go into a lot of detail on some things so the tests are not really hard. To get an A in this class just look up the things online or in the optional textbook. I didn't use the textbook much honestly.
Some labs are interesting, some are just busy work concerning boring calculations. The "quizzes" however are not quizzes they are tests with 50 questions that you have 1 hour to complete so you better rush through it.
3-4 assignments a week, one being a short discussion and the 4th being an occasional quiz. Labs can be a bit time consuming but you should get all questions right if you follow the directions. Quizzes are also easy with the exception of quiz #8, median score was a 68%... Thankfully he drops your lowest quiz score.
Probably the best professor I've had so far. He shows devotion in his lectures which is something that's hard to find in a lot of teachers. I would definitely take his class again!
Be prepared to do a lot of reading in the textbook. Do the homework with care and study for the tests to get a good grade. The labs are easy but time consuming. Don't save all your work for the night before.
Assigns 1 small online assignment every week. There are 3 midterms with the lowest grade dropped, a star test, and the final. Easy class if you attend regularly and take notes. The professor is very knowledgeable, explains the content clearly, and will answer any questions you have. Overall I really loved this professor and the class!
Fun to have him as my teacher. He has tests that are very hard, but if you study the material that he goes over in class, you will be fine. He doesnt take attendance but the notes he gives you, allows you to study in a better and more time effective manner. He gives study sheets to help you study for tests, he also drops you lowest of 3 midterms.
I had Professor Knight last quarter (Fall 2017) and I enjoyed my experience in his class. Make sure you attend every single class as this is where most of the information is taught. Textbook is recommended and I found it useful to refer when I did not understand a term or concept. A great class to take.
I took his online class last quarter, and completed all the homework by myself seriously, but he said I was cheating and gave me a F for that quarter. I sent email to him, he did not reply at all.
3 big tests, lowest dropped. Large comprehensive final and a star name test. Small quiz each week, super easy with unlimited retakes. Show up, take notes, and you'll do fine. Attendance not mandatory but it will help you learn the stars. Textbook optional.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but showing up is your key to passing! Pay attention in class and take notes because this is where all the content in his tests are going to come from. The grade you receive in this class is heavily weighed on your results in your midterms and finals so it's important that you don't miss a day.
He actually cares about teaching you information and wants you to understand it. He is very passionate about the topic which helped to keep class/powerpoint lectures interesting. What you learn in class is ACTUALLY on the tests which is very helpful. Interesting class and really good teacher. 10/10. wish he taught more classes
Professor Knight shows his love for astronomy in class he explains everything clearly and answers all questions asked (even if redundant). He provides study sheets before exams and reminds you about them in the days before the exam. If you fall asleep in dark rooms easily I would not take this class as its in a dark planetarium.
labs and quizzes took time everything else was pretty easy, labs are from other years and such so the questions were not as clear to answer but overall an easy class prey much everything in due on the Monday of the week.
Daniel was a calm and composed teacher, and always knew what he was talking about. He graded the exams and got them back to us extremely fast, and was always respectful to the students. I loved being in the planetarium. Wished at times there were other kinds of class days other than powerpoints and notes. Learned a lot overall :)
This was a tough class. There was a lot of reading and I had particular issues with the required book. Other than that Daniel was a great teacher, very knowledgeable and quick to grade and give feedback. I took the online class and kind of wished there was some in person planetarium time. Gave extra points when quizzes dragged down class average.
Dan is funny, charismatic, and taught me so much about astronomy. The experience in the planetarium was breath-taking. Also, the class is pretty easy.
Good online teacher, expectations were consistent and concise and he offered welcome feedback on labs and quizzes.
This professor was absolutely amazing. I loved every second I could be in the planetarium! If you try even a little bit, you will be fine. There are three midterms and he only counts the two that you have the best scores on. The tests are easy if you read the study guide and he will give you free points if the class average is low! Amazing class.
Knight was very clear and consistent, and happy to answer student questions when they arose. He also spent lots of time in class reviewing the material that would be assessed on each of the course's 4 multiple choice tests. The only major problem was that he canceled several classes with short notice.
Do NOT take this class if you want an easy A. His quizzes are 60% of the grade & they consist of 50 ?s in 60 min. Unless you have a photographic memory after reading 100+ pages, you will NOT get an A in this class. He is very nice, entertaining & a really good teacher. No extra credit. I'd give him 5 stars if he gave us 2 hrs for the quizzes.
Really great guy, I had some issues since the beginning of the semester, struggling a bit. He was so gracious & understanding towards me. His work isn't hard at all. The hw questions are based on the chapters you read, the labs have plenty of instructions, discussions are fun and the tests are like 50-60 questions (multiple-choice & true/false).
He uses the classic "I can't teach you everything you need to know" so he can use the question: "T/F: In a spectroscopic binary, the orbital motion of the component stars appears as variations in the overall apparent brightness of the system." This is not introduction to astronomy material. Boring lectures, I would avoid him if I could.
I took Astronomy 101 and I loved the class. I learned a lot but it was a lot of work and reading. The content was interesting and his lectures about the reading were very informational. He is very organized and his modules for each week are easy to understand. Overall he is a great teacher but dont take this class if you dont want to do the work.
He is very helpful if you don't understand something. The lectures are recorded before hand but are informational and entertaining. The only downside is some of the labs were a bit tedious at times but never took longer than 45 minutes. Spent at most an hour or two a week for this class and got an A plus learned a lot.
Class isn't easy and you need to study and know your stuff for the tests but if you're very into astronomy and want to learn about the sky and the stars Mr. Knight is perfect. Before the pandemic, he taught in the Planetarium which was awesome! He'd show the stars and different constellations in the sky. His lectures are very heavy but interestin.
Awesome teacher, easily one of my favorites so far at BC. I'd definitely recommend him, especially if you're a little leery about astronomy, he makes it super interesting and also teaches well in an online format. He records lectures beforehand and there's quite a bit of textbook reading but it's manageable if you put the work in. Clear criteria.
It's an easy A as long as you do the work. There is 1 homework assignment, 1 discussion board, and 1 lab every week (due on Mondays). They are all super easy. But there is a quiz like every other week and those are really hard. One quiz is dropped though. Read the textbook to study and you'll be fine. :)
Discussion and easy hw every week, 4 multiple-choice quizzes total with lowest dropped. Good amount of reading, usually 40pg/wk to get through the textbook in 1 quarter; 2 short lectures posted every week to "hit the highlights." Can tell he's passionate about astronomy and would take again.
Probably one of my favorite classes these past couple years. Was very helpful and communicative. Assignments and quizzes weren't too hard. No final, just a longer last quiz. Offers small extra credit at the end of quarter. Interesting discussion prompts every week too.
You read about two chapters a week and do a self-test. But don't be fooled, there are 4 quizzes total with the lowest one dropped. STUDYYY, they are open note and book but can still be challenging. Supper nice professor, responds quickly.
Professor Knight is quite possibly the best teacher I have ever worked with. A very kind instructor, knowledgeable on the subject of astronomy, and did a wonderful job giving feedback on assignments. I would highly recommend a course with him as the teacher.
This was a great course to start learning about astronomy. Professor Knight clearly stated everything that needed to be done, and I was never confused about what was expected of me. The only downside is not getting your graded test back with corrections, so you don't know what you got wrong, which for me, made it harder to improve.
Super chill Professor. Tells you where the homework answers are. You do homework questions and a discussion every week with a test every few weeks.
He really loves the subject that he's teaching. The lectures were actually fun to watch because you knew he wanted you to feel the same excitement he does. I was taking this as an easy class, and it was a lot harder than expected. Each week there was homework, a lab, two or three lectures, a discussion and sometimes a quiz.
Professor Knight was kind and caring. He really enjoys teaching this class, and is very enthusiastic. There are four quizzes, with fifty points each, although Professor Knight takes off your lowest quiz score. Lots of reading, but it’s interesting! Great teacher.
