He talks above our heads. In my class, basic Algebra, he tries to go as fast as he can, as if everyone should get the material, but if you are in basic Al., then it wouldn't be easy for you. He is very smart, but doesn't realize how the students are feeling.
Hard teacher who doesn't take any crap. He moves at a really fasst pace. Anal, but he will help you if you go in at office hours. He really does want to see the class do well but he leaves it up to the individual to get their own grade. He is nice sometimes, but I just can't get passed his anal retentive habits!!
This is the third time I've taken math 130 and he makes it so easy for me. he doesn't move on from a problem until everyone understands it and he answers any questions you have about the homework so you understand it. I highly recommend him.
He doesn't simplify the terminology, and I think the man is a robot. He only likes his students to go to him for help. Just don't take him....
All math classes are on a tight schedule, all the teachers move fast. In all math classes you have to go 100% of the time. When I took his class he gave homework quizes (the quiz had some of the exact problems from the assigned homework). Most of my class that was not doing well were not doing homework and attendance was spotty.
I don't agree with some of the other posts. This man was a great teacher. Math is usually hard for anyone - go to class and do your homework and you will do fine. If you have questions he will help - and it will make sense. Great teacher.
This teacher completed humiliated me in front of the entire class causing me to burst into tears. He singled me out and made it known to everyone that since I wasn't grasping what he was teaching maybe I should go back to beginner math. It wouldn't have upset me as bad if he had waited until after class and attempted to actually help me.
I took his online class. I have a great GPA and this class almost killed it. I did every single quiz, which was homework, and the lowest grade I got out of all the quizes was a 10 out of 15. He made the tests as hard as he possibly could. I had to drop the class to save my GPA, I've never dropped a class before. He is AWFUL!
DO NOT HAVE HIM! he is so smart that he thinks that what might be hard for us is easy to him, and is incomprehensible. One of the worst math teachers I've ever had!
Wow! I do not understand the last few ratings. I just started in his class, and I think he does a good job. he always asks for questions and practically begs us to come to his office anytime with questions.
I had Kopass a couple semesters ago and was very helpful. Anyone with half a mind would do fine in his class, now for the others of you, you should just give up now.
Good sense of humor
Mr. Kopsas is the best math teacher I have ever had. He takes the time to explain everything to you in a way you will understand. Math is hard. Attendance is mandatory. You can't expect to pass if you don't do the work. AWESOME teacher.
I guess all the rude comments were from those who did not do the work. Kopsas is a wonderful teacher. He will help you do well THE KEY IS OPENING YOUR MOUTH AND ASKING...do your work, study and ask questions THOSE ARE THE KEYS TO SUCESS IN MATH
This teacher is very much into technology! He has a tab on black board called Video examples where he actually works out homework problems from each section so it's like he is working on your homework with you!! He also is a very nice guy and will explain something until YOU inderstand it! He is genuine and actually cares!!
Daniel started teaching my class after our teacher left on pregnancy leave so I didn't have him all semester but overall he's a good teacher. More than willing to help. Puts his notes on blackboard if your absent. He was very helpful when we were studying for our final. I would recommend him to anyone taking 050.
Mr. Kopsas really impressed me. He understands that not everyone is a math genius so he breaks down the material into terms that can be understood easily. I highly recommend him.
Kopas is a new but very helpful teacher, he was trying new things to try and help the students remember. He does do a lot of quizzes but it ends up helping you out, because i think 5 lowest are dropped and it helps you get ready for test. Considering he is a new teacher he does very good trying to get students to understand, i would recommend
He is a great teacher! He is very up on technologly. I have had him for 050, 110, and now Precalculus. If your not a lazy Ace you will do great.
Absolutely the best math teacher I've ever had. I've struggled and struggled with math for years. I took Kopsas for MTH 130 and got my first B in a math class, ever. I am now in Trig, which I never imagined I would learn, and am doing well. Kopsas gives you all the tools for you to learn it, but you must put in the effort. Fantastic teacher!
Has students line up and grades your homework and notes in front of the entire class. ALL or NO credit for your homework and notes. Although he is good at using technology. I still would not take him again.
Uses a Wacom tablet for lectures and publishes it online as a .pdf every day. Also, posts videos online of example problems- excellent for studying. Homework is given every day (just 5 probs) and notes. Don't complain- it's great grade padding. Is extremely helpful and inviting during office hours. I wish he taught higher level math classes.
kopsas is OK he gets really annoying with his COD issues..lol he is a stickler for every little thing and then test are over all the hard stuff and never problems over the easy stuff ..i think his problem is he loves math too much and knows too much about it to think someone wouldnt easily understand math 110 ..i would not take him again!
If you're not GREAT with math do not take his ONLINE class! The homework assignments are difficult. Not a bad teacher. Makes allot of mistakes on his daily videos making it hard to understand what is right and what is not. Would not take him again.
Do Not Take this Class Online!!! He posted Daily Video's to watch which didn't help at all because it often had mistakes and at time were more confusing than helpful. I think he needs to realize that everyone isn't a Math Whiz like him. If you aern't great at Math - Do not take his class, because he won't offer any type of help.
Fantastic math teacher! The homework and quizzes are hard, but the tests are easier (wonderful for grades!). Go see him in his office, he is SUPER helpful!! His class is not easy, he expects you to learn and to think on your own, but if you work hard, you will do well. He does get excited about math, but that makes the class fun! TAKE HIM FOR MATH!
Was dreading this as a summer online course but he made this class very easy to understand and I would have gotten a better grade if my summer wasn't so busy. Great teacher, answered questions quickly which is nice for an online class.
Mr.Kopsas is a great teacher & extremely helpful. He makes you work for your grade, which I find to be a good quality. He allows you to be able to interact in the class by do the notes on his comp which is displayed on the overhead, he then post all the notes on blackboard. Very Helpful! If you are interested in math than he is the teacher for you!
I would not advise his class. I attended his class everyday, did all of the homework assignments and still failed. I really made an effort, I went to his office to get help and went to tutoring. He also uses a computer note pad to put his notes on the projector screen which is very distracting. I would not advise taking this teacher.
Kopsas is an excellent professor. He takes time to explain anything you need help with and is an excellent communicator. You do have to try hard in order to do well but I've never had a better math instructor. Take him if possible.
Mr. Kopsas is an amazing instructor. He does alot of work on his own making videos that help explain every part of the class. I will be taking every Math class he teaches and I'd recommend him to anyone whether you are interested in math or not. He honestly seems to want every student to succeed. That's a rare quality in a community college.
Worked sooo hard on this class. still failed! The class was weighted so 2 tests and the final counted for 90%of the grade! No room for error. Got 100% on all homework but still failed. He makes many mistakes on his online videos also. Just expects you to know what he's talking about in everything. That's what he's there for, right? Don't take him!
I had Kopsas for college algebra. I sucked at math. He taught so well that I not only earned an A in the class, I went on to trig and made an A there as well, something I NEVER thought I'd do. You DO have to work hard in his classes. Boo hoo. He's a fantastic teacher. If you want to understand math, take him. If you just want an 'easy A,' don't.
Kopsas does most of his lecturing through videos that you access outside of class. The "homework" portion is done in class so you can ask questions as you do it. This method worked very well for me and his videos were clear and precise. I did not struggle in this class and math isn't my greatest strength. Watch the videos and you will be fine.
Definitely one of the best Math professors I have had. His videos are very helpful and everyone has the ability to succeed in his classes if they are willing to watch the videos and do the homework. I would especially suggest him for students who have struggled in math classes in the past.
At the beginning of the semester I was not sure if I was going to like him! But after my first test I know I made the right choice in staying! He is an amazing teacher! And if your not lazy, and go to class and do your work, then you'll do great! He expects a lot out of you, so if you have questions you must ask! I highly recommend!!!
He utilizes technology very well, but this causes him to not really want to teach during class. He gives no credit for homework, and if you need help in this class you will most likely have to get it from him. Doesn't use the book much and teaches it differently than the book. First math class at OTC I haven't been able to pass on my first try.
Love math and have always been good at it. Byfar WORST instructor I've ever had. Sets you up for failure. Class started with 30, 5 barely passed. Hwk load monumental & tests impossible. Doesn't teach, you teach yourself thru his videos. From his blackboard bio:"I don't believe that every exam question must be just like questions we've seen before."
I took this as an online class, and was pleasantly surprised at how well I did! I am so so at math, and was a little nervous for the class. His videos are awesome, and explain solutions in a simple way. The first part of the semester requires A LOT of homework, but the second half required much less of a time commitment. Well worth it!!!!
I took Trigonometry thinking I wouldn't understand it at all. However, his teaching methods of using videos to teach helped me a lot and I received a good grade in his class and he is very handsome. :)
Mr. Kopsas was one of my favorite professors I have ever had. Not only does he thoroughly cover the material, he is also very inviting during his office hours to go out of his way to help others. His passion and willingness to help his students succeed is hard to find. I am definitely taking his Trigonometry course in the fall! He is awesome!
I have always loved math but this class really put a damper on my interest. Kopsas does all of his lectures through YouTube videos that are from 3 minutes to 10 minutes with upwards of five or six to watch a night. This course feels like it is mainly online. Virtually no lecture during class hours. I strongly recommend not taking this teacher.
Do NOT take this teacher unless you want a class that is online assignment but you have to attend class. He is not helpful. If you have a question his response is "looks like you should review the videos"
It may say he's an instructor for a seated class, but don't fall for it! He puts all of his videos online and you end up teaching yourself. If I had wanted a hybrid class I would've taken one. One problem is worth 10 points so it's easy for him to grade, but it will hurt your grade. Not only is his teaching style poor, but he's very condescending!
While being knowledgeable about math, he himself was terrible at explaining it. With the online course taught there was very little assistance and multiple inconveniences to the students with the way the assignments were done. Overall I wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you're already proficient at math and just want to get it over with.
I wouldn't recommend this course for those who are mathematically challenged. Most of his assignments are with the online ALEKS. ALEKS doesn't teach or grade the same way he does-he even told us that- so it's difficult doing seated and online work. However, he is EXTREMELY helpful but only if you've been trying all semester.
If math comes more easily to you, you should be fine. However I would not recommend him. He grades homework extremely hard. He wants you to write down every single step or you will get no credit. I feel like if I got the correct answer I should get credit. For example; if I could subtract 35-4 in my head, but didn't write the steps; I got no credit
Kopsas is hands down the best math teacher I've ever taken. Math literally makes zero sense to me, but when I took his class, the wheels were able to turn. He explains things in a way that no one ever has been able to. If it weren't for him, I'd have failed this class. I still struggled, but I struggled less because of his ability to teach well.
His communication style needs some work, but it's not awful. His videos are sometimes not explanatory enough, so I found myself in my textbook quite a bit, trying to teach myself. If you have difficulty understanding math, I would suggest taking an in-seat class. Discussions are held through a Facebook group. He brushes some questions off.
If you get the right answer the wrong way you will miss all points on tests.
The videos he provided for review were of poor quality that did not thoroughly explain the subject. He makes it difficult to seek assistance from outside sources by making it to where you have to do all of your work his way, otherwise you will not pass his test. This also inhibits learning because most people cannot always work a problem thesameway
Mr. Kopsas was one of the best professors I've ever had. I'm terrible with math, the numbers rarely make sense to me, but I passed this class with a high B, thanks to Mr. Kopsas. Some friends of mine from our class liked him so much we invited him out to dinner with us to celebrate the end of the semester.
He is a great teacher. He explains very well. You need to communicate with him to actually get help.
I hated his online videos, they were boring and the fact that you had to write down everything he wrote down to get all points was annoying, sometimes his videos were 20 minutes long, but I had to keep pausing to write everything down. If not you don't get all the points.
A very nice guy that wants to help but the way his class is structured and the way he lectures are both terrible. His lectures will go right over your head if your mathematical vocabulary is not on point and worst of all he makes you copy down what he says in his video's (which is a huge waste of time considering the amount of material you to copy.
He was genuinely the best math teacher I've ever had. He's extraordinarily patient and will explain things to you as much as you need without ever seeming frustrated. He holds his office hours in the tutoring center and does everything he can to help you because he actually wants you to pass. Take notes, do homework, ask questions and you'll pass.
Easily the best math teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. 10/10 would recommend taking him, especially if you think you're not usually good at math. He is very good at articulating and explaining difficult concepts. Very accessible and you can tell that he enjoys math so much that he wants you to be a success at math as well!
I took this online, it was a 50/50 chance he would actually mark what was wrong on my homework so I rarely knew what I did wrong and what I needed to review. His note videos can be kind of all over the place. However, there wasn't an overwhelming work load, 2 notes/homework and 2 MyMathLab assignments a week. Tests are a pretty big chunk of grade.
The best math teacher I have ever had, took the time to meet outside of class to help prepare for tests. Truly cares about his students and will put time into making sure you understand the material if you take the time and put in the effort to learn the material. Highly recommend taking his class!
Hands down the best teacher/professor I've ever had.
For quizzes - write each question on a different sheet of paper (even the simplest, tiniest questions), take photographs, upload them to your computer, convert them to PDFs, and submit for a grade out of 100 pages. A couple days later, do it all again for 10 points. Even if you got a 100%. For giggles and because he has the power to make us. 0/10.
Terrible professor, I paid for a lecture to understand the class, not a examples. The notes suppose to benefit the students, then penalize students who take notes in their own way.
He had pop quizzes almost every week and when he teaches he goes though the material fast. He also skip steps and think you are suppose to catch up. When someone asks a question he gets bother like he doesn't want to answer the question. He doesn't explains things at all in great detail.
Easily the best math instructor I have ever had. I really felt like I understood the material for the first time in my life. As far as Mr. Kopsas' teaching style goes, I'm not sure it works for everyone. Lectures are brief and if you don't do the extra practice provided, you may fall behind. The first two exams were easy, the final... not so much.
Great professor. Went over content clearly and made it as easy to understand as possible. Doesn't give out too much homework. Very clear about homework due dates and exam dates.
I decided to take this online course during my recent move because it seemed easy. I missed a couple of assignments because of the actual move itself and I apologized for it and explained. two days later, with no other notice I was removed from the course. guess goes to show how much he cares about his students.
Has the worst way to grade homework I've ever seen. You need to print out 2-4 pages of homework, do all of it, send him the pictures of the work, then he RANDOMLY picks 2 of the questions, and that's what you get points on. So if the homework has like 10 questions, and you just literally can't do 2 of them, you get 0 points. Always chooses blanks
Really big about understanding the material and not just going through the motions, but he explains concepts in such a roundabout way. He could never answer my questions in a way I understood. Sometimes if you ask a question, he acts like it's something obvious you should know. I've had better math professors at OTC in the past.
This Class is designed for students have have a strong background in math so be ready to study a lot and defiantly recommend taking in person because you will do so much better, I'm having to retake this class because I thought it it will be easy but take it in person you will learn so much more.
This is a difficult class. Even more so if you opt to take the online version of it. Nonetheless, Professor Kopsas was extremely responsive and you can tell that he is passionate for Calculus and general mathematics for that matter. If I could take all of my math courses with him, I would. He made a difficult subject like this one very enjoyable.
ONLINE COURSE: Took college algebra online, fairly difficult, especially if you don't enjoy math. The online aspect made this class definitely made this class more difficult. -Due date heavy, you can't get behind in this class like others because of the due dates being close together. -Grading homework style is odd
I took this course online in Summer of 2022. Professor Kopsas is a passionate math instructor who knows how to break down complex concepts and teach them in a way that makes sense. The 8-week version of this course is very intensely paced, and I'd only recommend it if you have ample time available to study and complete the homework.
This professor has your homework worth only 10% of your grade and his tests are 10 questions worth 10 points. He is a tough grader on these tests as well. I would get the right answers on exams and not have the work exactly how he wanted it and it would be minus 9. Besides this he was very quick to respond to emails and give feedback on things.
This class was hard, and I am a good math student. You have 3 lessons per week that consist of a set of practice problems, a homework sheet, and a review video. He doesn't really take late work. If you are taking online, go to in person proctoring for tests because he expects you to be perfect with online testing. Would not take him again.
This is a tough course from this instructor. The nonconventional grading system was difficult to get used to and definitely was a negative impact on my experience throughout the course. It was graded based upon proficiency in concepts, with 3 chances to demonstrate proficiency on each. Now the catch, you either get 100% credit for a concept or 0%.
The lessons are taught as a review, and he would be clearly dissapointed if the class couldn't produce the answer he wanted. The standard based grading system would be great if he wasn't such a harsh grader. If your solution + process was correct but you forgot something extremely minute he counts it wrong and you get 0%. However he IS a nice guy.
Drop the class before you fail it.
He was one of the most discouraging teachers I've ever had. At one point I asked for help and he said “you either know it or you don't.” If you didn't understand a concept he'd say “we covered this in the third lesson,” or “this is basic” He would get visibly disappointed and frustrated with the class, which I get, but its rlly discouraging.
Has the worst grading policy of any teacher I have ever had. I don't know if its school policy to have it set up like this, but test retrys are overcomplicated and you have to do really well on tests as they are basically the only thing that is graded.
I had to drop this class due to the grading system and the disrespect from the professor. He would have us print off 2 pages of homework 3 times a week. The homework only totaled out to 10% of the grade. When I would reach out to ask him questions about the material, he would become disrespectful and basically tell me that it's "common sense".
He was horrible about communicating and is the reason that I am no longer at the top of my class.
He grades you however he chooses to. You either get 0/1 or 1/1 for each concept and if he doesn't like you he will give you a 0/1 even if you have the correct answer and show the correct work. He is very nit picky. He is also a huge narcissist and flirts with all the young female students.
You gotta print out the homework, which is twice a week. The homework wasn't graded, but they were required to unlock the mastery quizzes. His grading for the quizzes is perfect or nothing, so you really gotta learn the concept. I learned to like it but very frustrating. With that said he does give many chances to try again.
Absolutely do not take any course with Daniel Kopsas. He is a horrible teacher. There are not enough words in the human language to describe how awful this class and Daniel are. Some people are good at things, but not meant to be teachers. Daniel is a perfect example of this. He is good at math. He is 100% not meant to TEACH people math.
Daniel Kopsis is the worst teacher at OTC. This man has no compassion for his students and grades homework with no interest for the student's benefit. I would honestly have him fired if I was in charge. Do not take a class with this man.
Mr. Kopsas deserves more credit than he receives on these reviews. He is extremely caring for his students. You will make a grade based on the effort you put in. Homework is a completion grade. The homework is often similar/more challenging than the tests. Same day grades as well as an opportunity to revise simple mistakes. Take this class.
Mr. Kopsas is the best math teacher that I have had. If you struggle with a topic, he will go out of his way to make sure that you understand it better.
