Very interesting and humorous. He does well in getting you involved. Class is cut and dry. You know what to do and when to do it by. Nothing unexpected ever given. I would take him again if given an opportunity.

English classes annoy me, but I adored him. Took it online, and he didn't require a book, we used internet sources (which I really liked... other teachers seem to be afraid of the internet as a tool sometimes). Quick responses, encouraging. Responds to every discussion post, even if it is with just a thank you, just to let you know he is there.

I was worried about taking this class at first as it is my first college course but he was very helpful and encouraging. Can't wait to take Comp. II now. He's a GREAT teacher!

Great teacher, extremely easy and helpful. As long as you study your grammar and turn in journals you are guaranteed to pass. Would take him again if he taught Comp II.

I think Mr. Lawless is a good teacher, therfore you should take him. Mr. Lawless is not an easy ride you have to pay attention and come to class; also he knows his stuff when it comes to writing.

He is a good teacher I had online was not bad there was only 3 essays and many discussions Your grade is the three essays if you try you will get a good grade I got a B only because I turned in one of the essays two days late and he took off a letter grade and he provided an extra credit opportunity at the end of semester I suggest him to anyone

Dan is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He does tons of class discussion (no limits!), he goes around to each and every student and goes over your papers with you one by one, he gives you plenty of time to your papers, and gives a lot of praise when he can tell you actually tried. He is encouraging and funny, the best teacher to take!

Although I did very poorly on the grammer quizzes he handed out, I learned a lot about writing and things related to grammer I didn't know. Prof. Lawless was, by far, the best English teacher I've ever had. He expects nothing but the best from his students. If you decide to take him, great choice! However, be prepared to work. He is very quick about replying to questions and grading papers. He takes the time to read and make suggestions about every one you will write. Great teacher!

Comp I Online was my favorite class this semester. Dr. Lawless is an amazing teacher -- very inspiring! Comments on drafts. Responds to emails/assignments quickly. No surprises. Workload wasn't easy, but I can't tell you how much I learned. I got an A, but it was well-earned. Be prepared to put in lots of time and effort; the results are worth it!

Hate writing, but I loved this class! Online is kinda hard (5 longer papers and 14 short, lots of analyses). He covers all the basics, like grammar, clearly (mostly). Don't take if you want an easy Comp class. But if you want to actually learn and improve (especially if you're not that great in the first place)take him! A for hard work. Very fair!

What an awesome teacher! He responds very quickly with any questions and grades papers in just a few hours. His tests are a bit hard, but the writing assignments are fun and interesting. If you hate English, this is the professor to have. He will help you every step of the way!

Lawless is a horrible online teacher. He only gives and grades, rather quickly I might add. But does not teach, wants you to figure it out on your own. Somehow that doesn't work...Anyway there are 10 quizzes worth a 100 points combined with only 10 minutes to take, and you learn nothing from them. On the plus he does respond promptly to emails

He was the best teacher to have for comp 1. He wants you to be ready for comp 2, and he does a very good job preparing you for it. Also all his grammer quizes were so easy, and they dont count much for your grade. very pleased =]

If you have any interest in writing, this is the professor to take! He'll teach you to craft amazing sentences and to build truly beautiful short stories. He's always willing to help and is very responsive via email.

Mr. Lawless was easily one of the best teachers I ever had. I took him for Comp 1, and later on again for creative writing. His knowledge, not just on literature and writing, but on almost any subject a student would bring up, made his classroom the ideal place to learn.

I had professor Lawless for Creative Writing and he will always be one of my favorite professors! He wants your best work and encourages you to keep writing. Professor Lawless's class requires you to write five papers--narative-500 words (max), cause/effect-600 words (max), comparison/contrast-600 words (max), arguing paper-700-800 words, problem-solution-500 words (max). You will also have to reply to an article/story and post a 200 word (min) response to the drop box. I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE.

There are also quizzes at the end of each week; most are ten questions in ten minutes. Daniel Lawless is a very good professor and I would recommend him to anyone looking to take comp 1 online.

Profosser Lawless was a good online teacher. He answers to emails very quickly. Just do all of your work and If you don't uderstand then ask him. Highly recommened

Simply put: A very constructive professor. Spc needs a serious writing program, Lawless takes it in the right direction. It would be nice if he taught a variety of writing courses. Take him. You wont regret it; plus he fits in nicely with less conventional students.

I'm sure that in any English composition class, you are graded on spelling and basic grammar. If it was obviously a typo, I never received points off. I would suggest using spell check in any writing intensive class. Professor Lawless was keen on responding quickly and helpful. He knows a lot, and is passionate about the subject he teaches.

I took his online class. I had a B, but forgot to do a quiz on the last week and dropped to a C. Answered emails in a timely matter and left comments on your papers, not just grades. I enjoyed him and learned alot from him.

Professor Lawless is AMAZING...Highly recommend. I hate writing, but he makes it fun. He grades with 24-48 hours replies to emails same day. Always available to help. Just do the work and u will get an "A". A few short storys to read with 10 ? quiz, midterm not so bad and Final was a breeze.Great professor.

A top 10 professor at SPC. I hate writing but would have got a "A" if I did not turn a paper in late. It was worth double (200 pts) and I turned it in late. He is very clear, no points when late. I would have failed, but he gave me 100 points (don't know why)so I ended up with a B and don't have to repeat class. I am taking Comp II in the fall!

Great online Composition I class. I learned a lot and did not have to buy a book. I am taking Comp II in the fall! I rate Dr. Lawless as a top 10 SPC professor. He taught me yet did not kill me with huge amounts of work or grief! Great English Professor!

Amazing professor, easy A. No textbook for his online class, and he gives all the resources too you. Papers are easy and to the point, and the final is easy also. Just make sure you pay attention to the resources and you will get an A.

Top 5 Professor at SPC. Don't turn work in late, but fair with grades and helps with letting you know what is expected. My favorite Composition Professor. I took 1101 and 1102 with him!

Good professor when you're still trying to learn the ins and outs of English, but I found MANY instances where his grammar and punctuation use was wrong. He marked questions wrong that I later discovered were actually correct. I still got an A, but don't expect to learn perfect grammar from him. Easy class if you already know how to write properly.

I had Prof. Lawless for Comp 1. He is very straight forward and his instructions are clear. You have 3 weeks to write each paper so no surprise assignments, 1 discussion, 1 quiz and 1 written activity each week. If you put effort into your work you will get a good grade. He is strict on his grading but not overly so. Over all its a pretty good.

This professor was great he was a harsh grader at times but I still managed to make an A in his class and writing is not my strong point just go to the tutors and get your work checked and you should be fine

Professor Lawless is a great Comp Professor. He grades harshly so make sure you re-read over every essay. Weekly quizzes (hard so study) and drop box assignments with an essay due every 3 weeks. His class is easy if you pay attention and follow his instructions. He critics very well and points out what you are missing or need to change.

He is a great teacher,people who are complaining here are just plain dumb probably.If you have a drop of intellect you will enjoy the class.No book required,he replies instantly and grades quickly.He will be taking points off for mistakes,but what do you expect-you are supposed to learn not just get a grade. Professor Lawless was superb! Since I am enrolled in an AS program, Comp II was not required. However, I enjoyed the Comp I class so much that I took Comp II. If you do the assignments, the class is will not overburden you. I work full-time, own a small business and have a family – but I still managed to pass with an A+.

Comp 1 was a breeze. My mails are replied to almost instantly, and my papers were graded almost instantly as well. He is a very tough grader, but it taught me a lot about proof reading. I'm currently taking comp 2, and it is the same quality.

I heard about this professor from another student and wish I had taken him for Comp 1. He is great, helpful and made me feel good about my writing. There were lots of reading and analysis of poems and short stories but it is an easy A and he was always available for feedback. I would recommend him to anyone.

My first semester in college was better than I thought it would be. So glad in took his class. Online isn't that hard. Just take time out of your week and you will pass.

Great class overall, In the beginning I asked a lot of questions he was definitely there to help. No book necessary you just read articles and write essays. The class was easy and to the point. I would recommend professor lawless as my professor of choice.

He's a really good professor. Clear on what he wants and how assignments should be completed each week. Easy to get emails back from and doesn't grade too harshly. Overall I feel more comfortable turning in my assignments to him than any of my other professors. I feel like I can really express my opinions in my essays and I won't be judged.

Took Prof. Lawless online and would take again. Very easy to get ahead online. I was always about 2-3 weeks ahead on assignments. No in-class meetings. No textbook. No midterm. Final is easy. Lawless is a great professor! Quiz almost every week, but you can take them twice usually. He gives you the answers after the first time. He is specific on what he wants, and helps you whenever you need it. Lawless gives great feedback and responds quickly to emails or calls. DEFINITELY would recommend again.

Dr. Lawless was a great teacher for ENC 1101. He was very clear in his grading, and offered help to students who were willing to put forth the effort. The only real complaint I have is that he sometimes would send out an email too fast to respond to a question you would have, and in the process would leave you confused still.

Dr. Lawless was a great professor for ENC 1102! He has a lot of material each week to cover, but you can mostly sort it out to find what you need. Weekly 250-word discussion posts along with a quiz or two each week. MidtermFinal were super easy as long as you read the stories that accompany the questions. Would take again!

Good professor, respects personal opinions. A few times he wasn't very clear on assignments and does not give points back even if he admits he either misunderstood you or sees he wasn't clear. Easy A if you just do the work and try to follow his criteria for assignments.

This was the most challenging classes I have taken thus far. You REALLY have to perfect your skills in ALL areas. I am happy that I took him bc he pushed me to learn how to be not just a good writer, but a great one! Rouns up final grade by almost 2 points. 9 quizzes (10 quest 10 min--so READ IT 2x) midterm&final, weekly dissc. posts, 2 big papers.

I love this guy. I took his Engish Comp 2 class and it was very fun and interesting. We covered things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, classic movies, and some great short stories. He was very good with feedback. Also, he bumped up the final grades up to .9% and an addition 1% for participation. Best professor I've had for an online class.

This class was tough, but I did feel like I came away a better writer. Participate, do your work, and you will be fine.

I took Professor Lawless online and it was an overall good experience. As long as you follow instructions and value the feedback he gives, you should get a good grade. We are about to take midterms and it has been great! It IS alot of work. Truth be told, any English Comp class is alot of reading and writing. That's just how it goes. However, he emails back almost immediately. He is encouraging kind, and provides EVERYTHING you need to be successful. Work hard and you will do great!

I took this class online and I loved it! He frequently sends emails about due dates and what is expected and is very friendly! He gives great feedback; if you do great, he lets you know, and if you didn't, he gives great advice on how to do better. He is very quick to grade assignments and respond to questions.

Great professor - one of the best I've taken at SPC. He gives amazing feedback. This is a Comp class so, of course there is a lot of reading and writing. You do need to put the work in to get a good grade, but he is in constant communication with his class about due dates and assignment info.

Lawless is tough but he makes you want to become a better writer. I was able to meet him face to face with concerns over my grades, and he helped me get an A by the end of the semester. There are weekly quizzes which the school requires we take, but he hates them. Smartthinking is your best friend! I would recommend Professor Lawless.

Mr. Lawless helped me become a better writer. He grades tough on the discussions so you can understand your grammar mistakes. I only have to write two essays for this class in which it was easy. The essay were interesting to write for this class. He made us write about classical literature and classical films. I wished I have took him for Comp. 1.

Writing topics are self-selected within a topic field which is great because it makes it easier to write. As long as you watch the short videos and try to write you will do fine. Tough proofreader, I don't think I received more than a 90% on any final write which was far. He is responsive and grades most things within an hour even on sunday nights.

You did not require a textbook, and everything you needed to learn in the class was provided in videos or links. The way each assignment was set up made writing the final essay for each section easy. He gives great feedback and always responds to emails. I am taking him again for Comp 2.

No textbook for this class. This professor grades right away and responds to emails right away regardless of day. Always received feedback, grades, and responses within a couple of hours. Gives great feedback. Sends weekly emails with extra tips for that week's assignments. There is a midterm and final so pay attention to the stories, poems, etc.
