Nice guy. He's a total geek but you find yourself liking him. He teaches painfully slow, to the point where you want to say 'OKAY! WE GET IT!'... Easy exams, no assignments, nice guy outside of class. I recommend him - unless I'm competing with you for a spot in his class! :)
Dr. Love really seems like he wants us to learn and doesn't trick you on tests...he's straightforward and lets you know what he expects.
really tries hard to explain everything, but he is painfully slow, so it is sometimes hard to follow. otherwise his tests are very straight forward, and he is always willing to help

he is the nicest teacher. he really wants you to learn.
Very nice teacher. He makes very subtle jokes. Reminds me of the scientist Will Ferrel played on SNL. He definately wants all his students to learn. Great class.
Awesome professor. He bores you to tears occaisionally, but it's cool that he really wants his students to succeed. Why can't the rest of the chemistry profs be like him??? I loved Dr. Love.
He is a terrible teacher, but his tests are really easy. If you don't need to go any farther in Chemistry then he is the teacher to take, if you have a lot of chemistry to take, then he will not prepare you for anything.
He is a cool guy
I could actually understand the words coming out of his mouth! Sometimes he spent too much time clarifying for confused students during class. But I guess if that is the main complaint then it isn't too bad.

He's great, I'll take him next quarter.
Dr. Love seems to really care unlike some professors and his tests are pretty easy if you understand everything that he covered in class.
If you are planning on taking any more chemistry classes then dont even think about Love. Also, if you start the series with him, dont switch to a different teacher because you will be very behind. If you are a person that is just looking for an easy A then i recomend Love, he wears funny sweaters to class and made me laugh
Cool guy. A much better option then the other available teacher for this chem series. Funny too.
Good teacher...he sometimes over-explains things....but yeah...just study and you'll get good grades...
He's very helpful and explains things really well. All you have to do to get a good grade in the class is study your notes. I had him for 151 first and made sure to register for his class the next quarter. He's probably one of the best general chem teachers, especially if you compare him to other chem teachers at EWU.
the only flaw that i can find in dr. love is that he explains things a bit too much...wich is not necessarily a bad thing...just gets a little annoying. so in other words, hes a great prof! take him if u can cuz hes very helpful and very fair. (hes kinda funny too ;)
The dude is realy cool. He explains everything very well and if you didn't get a great score in that class, it was your own fault. He looks like the 40 year old virgin, but the cat is tight.
If you go to class and do homework you will do fine.

If you go to class, do the homework and can stand his repeat lectures (over and over), you can get an A+ easy, slack at all and your grade will suffer, he covers a lot, dont miss class. He will notice if your gone, and you will pay!!!
He is amazing! If you go to class and do the homework you'll do great
Go to class, do the homework, and you'll fine in the class. Ask questions and don't give up!
He almost blew a hole in the ceiling on the first day of class. It was great! He will help you if you need it, do the work and go to class.
great guy! makes rediculous jokes and repeats himself (which is good if you are not a chem major). so much better than the other choices for this class.. i find him oddly attractive for a nerdy mid 40's little guy. love the sweaters and button up shirts Love! ;)
Dr. Love is a great chemistry teacher! His only downfall is that he answers every single question dumb kids ask. Which can make you want to bang your head up against the wall. Looks a bit like the 40 year old virgin but its something to laugh at. You'll love Dr. Love!
He was such an awesome teacher! I hated chem. until i took his class. I want to take him again! take him if you get a chance
I have had Love from 151-153. If you come to class, and do the assigned homework, the class with be very easy. He is really easy to talk to, and though he's sometimes busy, he will make time. He's a great prof and a really nice person.
I had Love for CHEM 100, 152 and 153. I always found him ready to help and answer questions. He explains things very well. Do the practice problems from the text book and come to class.
Easy teacher. He will show you several ways to solve problems. He teaches you if you dont know anything about the subject so he will go out of his way to show you how to do homework and labs.
I had a very bad High School Chem teacher, so I know what a bad teacher is and Love is not one of them. He is very good at teacher the material and is always willing to help. He goes over everything in the book, so read before you go to class, do the assignments he suggests, and go to class. He will go over it and class and practice with you.
He is a great teacher. You can tell he really knows what he is talking about and he likes the material he is teaching! I would recommend him to anyone who needs to either learn chemistry or needs refresher course.
I enjoyed the class and learned a lot. Without this class I would never have been prepared for my 161 class
stay away from him, stays off into random thngs and then says ohh u dont need to know that yet..the whole quarter, girls hes a creeper and he hates guys so good luck to anyone
Best teacher! He's great! Sit up front, take notes, etc. Labs are fun.
Really easy class and easy teacher! He's wonderful and always willing to help his students who make an effort. You either need to come to class or read the books - not at all both. It's practically the same thing whether he's speaking or you're reading. I highly recommend him and the class. Easy 4.0. :)
Great Prof. Stays true to the material, even when he rambles. Real loves his job, like really really. VERY enthusiastic about it. Answers questions best in a one-to-one setting.
He is in his own smart world sometimes rambeling. His first time teaching 161 though. His lectures are from the book and so are his test. He assigns a lot of homework but you never have to turn it in. Really angry when people came late but he always held us late & rushed to teach new things in the last minutes of class making it hard to learn.
He is a really smart guy, but has a hard time answering questions and explaning things. It was his first time teaching this series in the Fall of 2012, and he seemed like he didn't really know exactly what we were supposed to learn. I didn't learn things I need for Organic Chem this quarter.
He's a really nice prof, if a little frazzled. It was his first time teaching 161, but everything on the tests was covered in class or in the book, and the questions were multiple choice.
I really enjoyed his teaching, his tests are very easy/ M/C and homework doesn't count. Easy class and easy to follow along if you have some background in the topic already.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. I thought that chemistry was fun and relatively easy before I took this intro class but no... Now I am completely unsure, did not answer questions, tests were hard, NO REVIEWS!!! Must go to every class book is very unclear
As long as you go to class, you'll pass. Explains everything clearly and tests are mostly multiple choice. He doesn't understand personal problems, but if you need help regarding the chemistry he will definitely help you. If he teaches any other classes I need in the future I will definitely take the course with him.
He's very smart, but needs to learn new teaching skills he knows it and it comes easy to him so he expects you to know it automatically. I would not take him again and sad that u ever did
Chemistry is not an easy subject, However this professor made it really easy to understand. He breaks the material down into smaller pieces and then builds it up. I surprising really liked this class and plan on taking this professor for as many courses as I can.
Chem is already pretty difficult to understand but I thought his lectures were always pretty clear. Go to class as often as possible. He does only lecture, 5 tests including the final and lab. No quizzes or homework. He is rude and condescending when you ask questions tho. pretty good class i'd take him again
Chem is already pretty difficult to understand but I thought his lectures were always pretty clear. Go to class as often as possible. He does only lecture, 5 tests including the final and lab. No quizzes or homework. easy grader. He is rude and condescending when you ask questions tho. pretty good class i'd take him again
There are a couple really solid intro chemistry professors at EWU but I switched to Dr. Love for Chem 153 and i'm wishing I had taken the whole series with him. Great lecturer, no mandatory homework, and his tests are cake compared to the other profs I've had. Mostly multiple choice with a couple "Show your work" problems. Easy Grader
Best eveerrrrrr!!!!
Loved starting my college Chemistry with such a good teacher. Definitely going to take more of his classes.
Very easy intro class. He is a great teacher. Show up to class, do the homework, do the labs and you will pass. I used the book a couple times but never actually had to read it to understand the class.
Dr. Love rocks!!! Pay close attention to what he says in lecture and you'll be just fine. He provides a good foundation for learning chemistry and he's just genuinely a nice guy! Ask questions and he's very helpful with clarifying. Labs are kind of pointless, but not a deal breaker for taking his class!
Dr. Love is a great professor! He gives homework, but does not require you to do it. He also prepares you very well for the exams, and drops your lowest grade out of four. I would definitely take him again if given the opportunity.
Multiple choice exams and no graded homework. He drops your lowest test score and there are only 5 exams. The final is not weighted. The entire course is out of 450 points including labs (only 10 points each) and nothing is weighted. As long as you do the practice problems from the book the night before you are golden.
Terrible professor. I will never take him again. He is so confusing and he does not know how to teach. Not nice to students. Thinks way too highly of himself. Tells everyone not to cram the night before an exam but he tells you about the exam the day before. very hard class.
He doesn't put any grades in canvas so you will be blindsided at the end of the quarter. You can go to his office to see grades but he is not ever there. Out of the 6 labs and 4 tests, I only knew my grade on two labs. Confusing lectures and rubrics and he isn't available to help away from class. Would never take a class with him again.
really hard class I would never ever take his class again !
He said we needed a book, but I didn't buy one and did just fine. Really enjoyed the lab days. He tends to draw out what he's saying so it makes it a bit difficult to listen to him.
I took Dr. Love for chem 100. I've already taken chem before so I figured this would be easy. I love chemistry and it's super simple for me but the way he teaches made me do awful in the class. He doesn't make an attempt to see how the class is doing. Your grade is based off of 4 exams 4 labs and a final. You fail one you fail the class.
Boring, bad at explanations, uninterested in students success.
I had Prof. Love for Chem 100. Your grade is dependent on 4 tests and 4 labs, all with a massive weight on your score. With that said, he drops the lowest grade but he is an extremely hard grader. The downside is that he will never enter grades on canvas, nor will he notify you of anything online. I got pretty screwed. Not too happy came out okay.
Dr. Love starts you from scratch at the fundamental level and then simply builds off of that. He has the most universal teaching style and it truly shows when his students start to return the favor in terms of handing in the good grade they feel they deserve. I'd take Love for ALL my science classes if my sanity depended on it.
I don't know why people are giving Dr. Love bad scores. They obviously never went to class, looked at the slides, or read the book. The exams are super easy. He breaks everything down barney style to make sure that his students understand chemistry, which most professors won't do. He wants his students to pass his class, not try to trick them.
He's very nice and will help out a lot but if you dont really understand chem, it will be the hardest class of your life.
The tests are mostly multiple choice worth three points each. If you miss a few, your grade goes down really fast. Overall I liked his lectures and felt like between in class examples and homework, I was pretty well prepared for the tests. The only grades you get are tests and labs so make sure you show up to class and do your practice problems!
I personally was not impressed w Dr. Love. I did really well on the tests because I studied A LOT out of class but I didnt find the way he explained things easy to understand at all. Hes always there to help but is not the best at understanding your questions. Problems on his tests are 3 points each so your score drops FAST. DOESNT USE CANVAS:((
He does a good job of explaining concepts from a variety of angles, which is helpful when trying to understand some of the more abstract concepts. He encourages participation. If you do the homework, go to the labs, and pay attention in class, you'll be fine. Only complaint was that he doesn't use canvas, so your grade will be ambiguous.
Absolutely terrible. Never put a single thing in the grade book. Dont bother asking him a question he wont answer it & just tell you to pay attention. DONT TAKE
There is a lot of material to cover during every test and he doesn't make it clear what will be in the test and what won't be. The class had less than 50% attendance. Labs are super easy but my biggest complaint is that he puts nothing on canvas. We don't get our grades until the end of the quarter and have no idea how we're doing.
Hes awful
I personally loved Dr Love's class. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and the way he teaches has a lot of examples that works for just about every learning style. He answers questions well, too. I did hate how it was only graded on exams and labs, and he put nothing on canvas, but I learned a lot from him!
Amazing at explaining things through lecture. If you TRULY pay attention to what he is teaching things will make sense I promise, as well as doing homework(bit harder than exam but not graded just for practice). Gives occasional extra credit quiz. Gives an hour and a half for tests, and they are open all day. Drops lowest test. No zoom meeting.
Dr. Love has really amazing, concise, clear lectures. They are almost comically simple to understand. He had no graded homework, so the only grades in the class were the exams- 3 plus the final. Drops the lowest test grade. Exams are easy and open all day, thankfully for those of us who work. He is very smart and passionate about the science too.
He talks really slow. Luckily I took the class online due to covid so I could watch lectures on 2x speed.
I only took Dr. Love for the laboratory part of CHEM 171 and overall it was one of the easiest classes I ever took. Print the labs, look them over before showing up and you'll be fine. Professor Love is there if you need him or to look over any problems you may have. He genuinely loves chemistry and wants his students to succeed.
Look, at Eastern, Love might be your only shot at a decent chem prof. No homework, quick labs, everything you need on canvas. But for the love of god don't ask him a question in class because he will just make you look stupid. He could explain things way more simply than he does, and it's frustrating. Test questions are not covered well in class.
If you want an easy A, take this course. However, you won't learn much. Prof is smart, but has trouble teaching. Very vague and confusing at times. Attendance isn't mandatory or necessary. I would have preferred this be an online course.
GOT AN A!!!!
Dr. Love is ok, and definitely the worst person to ask if you have a question. Every time I ask a question, my question is never answered and we talk in circles. The syllabus said there would be homework, quizzes and assignments however the only thing in the gradebook is tests (which are all multiple choice, no partial credit scores).
Do NOT take if you are pre-med! He will barely teach you the bare minimum to succeed at a higher level. Contradicts himself frequently & communicates horribly. Managed time terribly & takes no accountability for it. We were FAR behind the other sections, & he did not teach us any thermochem at all. Worst person to ask questions. Very frustrating!
Professor Love is very straightforward, when you ask a question, he acts like he has no idea what you're talking about. He only grades by tests but he does drop the lowest of them. He is a very boring lecture to listen to, but he does have everything you need on canvas just in kinda a mess.
Only 4 graded assignments for the entire course. 3 tests (lowest score dropped) and final. Lectures were excellent. Tests and quizzes multiple choice.
Dr. Love hates his job. He puts in zero effort in grading and making tests. All he does is talk about how hard it is to make a test even though he never does it. He also gets really upset if the average test grade is low, even though it's 100 percent his fault.
If I could give a 0 rating, I would. If you even remotely struggle in chemistry, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! (chem 172) There are only 3 exams (drops the lowest) and 1 final in the gradebook. He knows that students run out of time on exams, yet does not shorten the exam. He is also not very approachable. Mostly all multiple choice exams.
The only grades in the class are exams and labs. If you hold yourself accountable it's an amazing class with little stress. The lectures are easy to follow and interesting.
grade is based on two exams and a final. His lectures can be boring but he is a nice person. Definitely read/study a lot on your own if you really want to learn. We skipped a lot of material. His exams are not hard, however, you only get 50 minutes for them (the final is 2 hours of course). Some extra credit but not a lot. Little stress
The first thing you need to know is that he puts like NOTHING in the grade book until the very end, he'll give you your exams and scores back almost immediately but you won't know your actual grade until it's too late to do anything.
Worse professor ever doesn't teach does 1 problem on the board and asks you to solve it, why am i there, then in his exams brings 8 different type of complex problem that he went over in 3 mins. I regret taking him first class i might fail. i dont fail i am an A student- also i hate him hate
I recommend NOT taking him, he gets side tracked in lectures, he doesn't give assignments to understand the material being taught. His grading is only exams and labs. If there is a different professor that offers chem 100, choose the other professor.
I made the mistake of not checking his rating before taking his class. I DO NOT recommend taking him, he is constantly getting side tracked in lectures and you have a better chance of passing if you teach yourself with the textbook. I honestly hate him and his grading technique sucks. You don't know your grade until it's too late! - WORST “TEACHER”
I DO NOT recommend taking him, he is a joke of a “teacher”. He ALWAYS gets sidetracked during lectures. You honestly have a better chance of passing the class if you teach yourself with the textbook. I hate him and his grading system. He doesn't post grades until the end of the quarter, so you won't know if you're failing until it's too late.
I love his teaching style, he's funny. There's no hw assigned, he suggests problems to do but not graded. He does 3 exams drops the lowest one, and then ur final. He does multiple practice problems days before tests and gives problems, reviews, recordings, and slides on canvas! People say they don't know their grade, just calculate ur avg exams :)
Chill guy. No homework is graded but it's good practice; you need the textbook for it, though it's the same book for the whole series. He wants you to pass, so he goes over everything thoroughly in lecture with examples on the board. Honestly, just attend lecture and take notes on the example problems and it's an easy class to pass.
Dr. Love is a caring person. I have gotten to know him well, and I enjoy speaking with him. I struggle with chemistry and he has encouraged me every step of the way. He has a mixed reputation amongst students, but I think that many students don't take the time to get to know him. If they did, I think that many would find that he's very kind.
he states in his syllabus that students typically need to spend 2 hours outside of class to do well, which i agree with. I did feel like he was confusing in his lectures and I felt like I had to teach myself. I would say to use the syllabus and keep up with the reading and do the practice problems and you will do great.
I took the entire gen Chem series with Love, and he is an okay/good professor. He is sweet and nice person, although I did not like his teaching style. You will have to spend some time outside of class watching videos and doing your reading to understand the material. You are only graded on 2 exams and your final so that is kind of stressful
