Knows material really well and will answer any question but he goes too fast and then acts like it's easy. Yea it's easy for you because you've done it for 20 years!!!
Great teacher! He knows the material inside and out. Works very hard to ensure you understand the subject material. He is very hard, but you do learn a great deal. I would recommend him to anyone.
Knows material really well Great teacher. His test are kinda hard though.
I have to say he is not the nicest person I have ever met in my life. Although he does know the material very well he has a way of making one feel incompetent when asking a question or answering one of his questions not to mention...he is not very willing to work with students outside of class.
By far the best teacher you can take. His notes are redicuously intricate, so that when you go over them later they are understandable. His examples flow great with the book material. The class is not easy by any means, but if you work at it you will learn more in this class than in any other.
Terrible teacher. I learned absolutely NO physics the entire semester. Don't waste your time with this professor.
I hate him. He is awful. He makes you feel so stupid and he goes way too fast. He never uses any numbers when explaining so you can't figure out what goes where. I wouldn't advise anyone to take him.
Aweful teacher, i wouldnt recommend him to my worst enemy. He is not helpful at all (inside the classroom and out) and makes you feel stupid. unless you are able to teach yourself dont take this professor. very hard tests
Tough but fair. Notes are great. Easier to understand than book. Don't expect to just get by in his class. Have to do lots of work and ask questions (although i think i was the only one asking questions; the rest of the class just sat there!) Tests are hard but you learn a lot.
He is a good teacher, but does make you feel uncomfortable and unworthy to be there! Comes off very egotistical and is very unapproachable as a teacher. My advice is to take David Bahm.. he is a lot slower and a lot more helpful and gets just as much accomplished!
One of the most disappointing professors I have ever had. Although his presentations are well organized and to the point, he seems to lack the basic functions of compassion and care for anyone other than himself. Completely unapproachable. He is an intellectual elitist. -Passive agressive, judgemental, cold, and self-absorbed.
He's pretty rough, and hard to approach for questions. He's not impossible, though (I received an A). His tests consist of 8 mathematical problems. Sometimes, with more mathematics than physics. Don't take him if math is not your subject.
Teacher has no interest in students. Ignores questions. Tests on material not covered in class. Extremely rude.
If you can avoid taking his class, do so because even if you are a straight A student, he will find a way to mess up your GPA
I took his summer Physics I course so I could take AP Physics. Not an impossible teacher, but if you don't study you'll definitely fail. He knows his stuff well and always has these weird/funny stories to go along with the topics. If you are interested in physics, he's definitely worth it; if not then go find someone else.
If you are not up on Trig, Calc, and want to feel like an idiot, well I will let you decide. He is a smart guy and you get the feeling, he would like to be doing something better than teaching you. Impersonal, self centered, and very very degrading, obviously does not care about a persons future. And makes fun of his other classes.
He is very intelligent and it takes a while to get used to his humor. Show interest in wanting to learn and he will help you. This class is not for lazy people, you have to do your hw questions to get good test grades, but his labs aren't bad. He is fair, but definitely challenges you to think. (Isn't that why you came to college anyway?)
He gives off a tough vibe, but he's very approachable and always answers questions readily. While he may come off as arrogant, this is a good professor and I would recommend him regardless of his sarcastic teaching style that seems to bother people that need to be babied. Just listen in lecture and you'll do fine.
He's a genius when it comes to physics and obviously enjoys teaching students. He's more than willing to take time to explain things you don't understand during office hours. Do the suggested homework problems and have good attendance and you will do fine. His class is really interesting and always fun to go to!
This professor is very hard. His favorite position is... Well anyway, he works very hard at making sure that students have perfect notes and lecture material. Go take jewelry making if you want an easy A.
Took his class in the summer. Easy teacher. Bring cookies to class and you get an A. His tests have 7 Physics questions that are more math than actual physics. Don't take this class if you suck at math. Simple labs. Come to class and do your homework for an A. Personality wise, gives off a tough vibe and clearly hates stupid people.
Needs to find a profession other than teaching.
Took his class in the summer 09. Awfull teacher. Hard as heck tests and does not feel like he wants to be here. Likes to shoot people down and enjoys degreding others. Honestly just save urself the trouble and take some1 else. If you want an easy grade and to learn physics there are much better teachers.
i read/heard alot of negative things about this guy before i started teh course. But he was the only one teaching it ... turned out to be the best instructor i've had at jccc. He comes off a bit rough but he tells it like it is. His lecures are clear and he kinda tells you whats going to be on test. Looking forward to phys 2 next semester.
You will learn a lots from him. Take his class and you will be fine.
You will learn a lots from him. Take his class and you will be fine.
Very clear cut notes. Just go to class and write down everything he does then use that for hw problems. Hw is pretty necessary to do well on test but doesnt count for anything. Tells you problems that are on test. Labs are quick to do and dont take long to complete questions. Comes off arrogant but its just a weird sense of humor.
Notes come straight off the board. All the tests follow the same format. His class is very organized and structured.
Really great teacher in my opinion. He's tough, opinionated, and can be a little condescending at times, but if you use that as encouragement to do well then it wont bother you. The class is tough you will have to do the problems in the book if you want to pass, even though they are not required. Attendance is not required, but recommended.
Martinez is a great teacher! He is somewhat difficult (but i believe that is more the material than him.) He uses real world examples, will work through any problem you need him to, and will spend his office hours to help as well. He wants you to succeed, but you do have to put forth the time and effort to succeed in his classes.
First impression was that he was very intimidating during class. the whole class was literally afraid to speak up. he can also seem very condescending at times. if you get past all of that, he is actually a slightly above average teacher. i think the course is hard, not his grading. he gives real life examples, but not everything he said was clear.
Yes he is very condescending and therefore the class won't speak up but his class is way more structured and helpful than a university physics class.Notes/hw examples come from board, labs link directly to lecture, hw is based directly on notes, test is based directly on the homework which is impossible to say for a place like KSU
His humor can be mean but lighten up (or just ignore it). His stories are hilarious. The class is hard but he is very fair with partial credit and grading. dont be scared to ask ?s and if you are you shouldnt be in college. I do not like physics but Martinez is a good fair teacher
I thought Mr. Martinez was a great teacher. Some people think his class is difficult, but I think those people would have difficulties with physics no matter who their teacher was. His lectures and notes were so thorough, that I never even bought the text book, and still got an A. And he's not trying to be condescending when he jokes around.
He's not a good teacher of the material and he's rarely helpful/approachable. Avoid this class if you can. If you must take him, his tests come straight from the board NOT from the homework. Do not even bother doing the homework.
He isn't a very good teacher. He thinks that he is the smartest person ever therefore he thinks you must know everything. Avoid this class if you can. He is the type of teacher that writes on the board the whole class period and barely turns around. He thinks you should already know and understand what he's writing. He is very rude so avoid asking?
Has a lot of interesting (and funny) stories like high-velocity snakes. He is very fair on his tests, and expects you to know your calculus. His class is very structured, and he guides you by the nose through the experiments. All you have to do is follow the intructions. His sarcasm is often taken as arrogance, but overall he is a great teacher.
Martinez is a good professor. He is knowledgeable. His lectures are very organized and helpful. Tests are hard. You have to study hard and understand the concepts, otherwise you could not pass the tests!
I must admit, the first week lived up to the "arrogant prof" hype. However, after finishing out the semester I must conclude that he simply wants to weed out the people who want an A handed to them on a plater. I actually thought he was pretty dang funny most of the time. Take Martinez if you want a prof who knows his stuff and gives perfect notes.
Really funny guy. Can be intimidating to overly-sensitive people. He just wants to weed out the slackers. Labs are fairly easy and he leads you "by the nose" through them. If you want to get an A you must do the homework and rework the examples from the notes.
Made two mistakes and had neither the intelligence or integrity to acknowledge. Twisted. Equating a newton and a quarter pounded, relished gong to McDonald's ande befuddling worker by asking for a newton. Reads off notes - how can students be expected to remember long derivations if teacher can't. Very disappointing teacher.
One of the best teachers I've had. He's very clear with examples and knowledgeable about the material, and hilarious.
Love this guy! He makes class so fun and interesting. He's really funny and really knows his stuff. I highly recommend him. Best physics professor ever.! "Gravity!" lol
full of fun and jargons, "go figure" "it never fails", "gravity". a great professor who knows what he is talking about! the best physics professor ever!
Great professor. Made physics interesting! I never felt bored in class. Homework problems are challenging but I like it. Notes are clear and pretty comprehensive too.
He's very sarcastic during his lectures and can come off as rude, but don't let that fool you. He is a great teacher, will answer any question you give him. Take thorough notes; his examples are excellent. My notes were my best resource when studying for tests. Note: If you are over sensitive, or you hate physics andor humor, don't take his class.
Professor Martinez is clear and concise and throws in a good amount of humor into his lectures. I was amazed by the time spent reviewing questions on homework in order to insure that students understood the material completely. Lectures go by quickly because there is so much material to go over, so make sure to take good notes. DO THE HOMEWORK.
Attend lectures, do homework, ask questions and you will do well. Professor Martinez is a seasoned physicist who understands how to convey physics concepts to students. Will recommend to anyone thinking of learning physics from the best.
Class is hard, but you will learn a lot. Be ready to take on hard tests, all I can recommend is to really do the homework, and not just copy answers, actually understand the concept. Also recommend re-doing from scratch all of the problems he did as examples, and you will get an easy B at least. Don't slack on the labs, they will help your grade.
The best teacher!! really engages the class and keeps it interesting. I would love to take his class again
Mr. Martinez is good teacher. His humor throws some people off, but he just trying to make us better, and the material memorable. The test are difficult, but it is physics. He is good at explaining things.
I spent the entire summer class trying to figure out if there was a personality behind all of the sarcasm. The jury's still out on that verdict. He's a great teacher, but he can be somewhat rude. And by "somewhat", I mean "very". I learned a lot, though, and he had excellent examples to help you remember things.
Martinez knows all there is to know about physics, & has an effective method of teaching through stories, etc, but he can catch you off guard when he'll (softly?) make fun of an answer if you just make a guess. It really helps you remember the topic, though. Fair grader, but tests were very difficult - DO HOMEWORK + ask him to solve them in class!
I had so much in his class even if it was challenging, but hey it's Physics!. If you're oversensitive & LAZY don't take him coz he's really sarcastic, but I enjoyed it and that made learning experience fun. Gotta study hard for his exams & DO the HOMEWORKS! YES THEY HELP. I got a 96% on one of the exams in his PHYS II class though."101 students"lol
The first force I label, the most important force in the world is the WEIGHT, mg, which acts STRAIGHT DOWN! Martinez is great. One of the best profs I've ever had. Tests are pretty tough, but it's engineering phys so what do you expect? Highly entertaining lectures, knowledgeable professor, you can't go wrong.
Best professor I've ever had, he's the G.O.A.T for sure.
Hands down, the best Physics professor at JCCC (in my experience). Typically the only people that don't like him simply failed the class and couldn't keep up with the rigorous studies of engineering physics. He is Hilarious and gives excellent notes over the material. You must give this class your best effort to succeed!
He is a very good techer that makes the subjects very clear to understand. The labs are always easy to follow and always corilate with what you are doing in class. Keep up with the homework and pay attention in class and you will pass easily. Very funny guy as well.
Funny Teacher! College Physics is hard, no question about it. To pass, attend all the classes, take notes and do the homework problems. If you do all of this, you'll be fine. The labs are easy and match the lecture very well. He is sarcastic though, not a big deal but, get ready. Remember mg points straight down!
Prof Martinez is a snarky, sarcastic teacher. He knows his subject, makes you laugh and learn at the same time. Remember the is no one more qualified to teach physics that him Easiest form in the WORLD to label is the weight mg which acts STRAIGHT DOWN.
His lectures are good, he's funny, and sarcastic. Homework is not collected or graded, but you need to do them to succeed in this class. Be prepared to use up to 2 reams of paper on homework alone. If you aren't ready to work hard in a course, then don't take this class.
This class is very hard.
Martinez is an incredible professor, 10/10 sort of guy. He's a good and entertaining lecturer, and he cares a lot about physics and his students. That being said, BE PREPARED to put the time in if you want to get a good grade. It is very possible to do well if you do the homework and study, but don't expect to do well if you don't put the time in.
I hold several degrees and prof. licenses. This was the worst class I have taken. The professor teaches by intimidation and yelling, which some anxiously confuse with humor. Physics is a prerequisite for the professional programs that JCCC feeds, and I watched several of my new-to-college peers needlessly wither in class. "Old-school" or mean?
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Tests account for 70% of the grade, gives way too many questions for short time allotted. Doesn't give you the tests back so you have no way to know what you did wrong. Pretentious and very unapproachable. Posts online lectures weeks late and uses a crappy webcam so you can't even see what he's writing.
My favorite professor out of the dozen or more I've had at JCCC. In-person lectures are the best part of his class, and he keeps the difficulty at a doable level, provided you put in the effort. Engineering physics isn't easy, but Martinez makes it fun and teaches it in an understandable and enjoyable manner.
Professor Martinez is a great professor, lectures are very clear and he is easily accessible for help. This is a challenging subject, so be prepared to put in the time and effort on the homework. Tests are also based on homework. Labs were pretty easy; as long as your justification is reasonable, you won't get marked off for exceeding deviations.
Terrible professor. Our class has basically taught ourselves statics alone. He assigns a crazy amount of non-graded homework to practice for the exams, then puts totally different problems on the exams. Problems we weren't told to practice and were not covered in his lectures. He can't even solve the problems he assigns to us. He also grades hard.
You must really like Physics to take this course. I took him with online lectures and in-person labs. This is definitely a course where you are going to be on your own. You will have to figure out answers on your own, use campus resources, and Khan Academy. Online lectures are mediocre and you will have to spend countless hours to prepare for exams
Martinez is God
Martinez is one of the most entertaining professors I've ever had. Guided notes and book homework. His grading is fair where partial credit is key. The best part about his class is you don't have to take notes, you don't have to do the homework, and don't even have to show up to class! All jokes aside I highly recommend him as a professor.
Awesome Professor, by far my favorite. He was very sarcastic, as many others have noted, makes a fun atmosphere in the classroom. Homework is never due, but you WILL NOT do well on the tests if you don't go through the problems! ask him to solve them in class if you need help. Attendance is not mandatory but it is necessary to learn the topics.
Very consistent in his lectures and sarcastic (but entertaining) attitude. Labs align perfectly with what is being covered in the lecture. Practice problems assigned from the book were much harder than those put on the test, but are not graded or required. As long as you pick up on the main ideas/equations, the class should be easy. Ask Questions!
Prof. Martinez does not care about his students and lacks empathy. Tests are hard, know the homework. He openly makes fun of students in class. By far the worst professor I have ever had. Not so much sarcastic as just plain mean. Physics is hard, but there is no way it should have been this hard and for all of the wrong reasons.
Unless you want to completely teach yourself and listen to a professor constantly make fun of other students DO NOT TAKE HIM. He gives homework, but does not grade it, so all points come from tests & labs. I dropped his class after he read another students test answer word for word to the class and made fun of it and the student for what she wrote.
His teaching style is very different and not for everyone, but me and several of my other classmates thoroughly enjoyed his class. The labs line up with the material and do a good job helping you prepare for exam material. Engineering physics was my first physics ever, and he made it doable.
After barely getting a B in EP1, which was my first physics class ever, I was able to get an A in this class due to his ability to teach clearly, and help me when I needed it. Lectures are informative, entertaining, and you will never cease to be amazed. From "Oh no, don't report me to the dean" to "Thank God I'm an expert at vectors" 10/10
70% of the grade was in 5 tests, the other 30% is in labs. So don't miss a lab and make sure you do the assigned homework problems to prepare for tests. He's kinda loud and a bit abrasive but never mean or unfair, so don't let it scare you. The lectures were great with pre-made notes handed out.
Very entertaining, definitely going to take him for physics 2. He has quite the personality but makes it very enjoyable and gives lots of laughs This man was a genius when he was 7 years old
This guy doesn't teach well enough to justify his awful behavior. He's abbrasive, needlessly long-winded, regularly mocks students, yells a LOT, and generally seems to hate his job. He could be a decent teacher if he cut the antics, but it's like his whole shtick is proving he doesn't care about his students. There was no upside; take someone else.
I liked the class but the professor was really rude and disrespectful and didn't really “learn” anything new from him. if he pretended like he cared, his class would be more enjoyable And his jokes are not funny at all
Tells the best stories. His class was a lot of fun for both Engineering Physics 1 and 2. My favorite quote from his 101 students is "because the speed of sound is faster than the speed of smell" I have no clue what he does to his 101 students but the engineers get to hear all of it He lets you know what to study for his test JUST FOCUS ON THAT
Mr.Martinez is an old school goldie. Uses the shock and awe approach to teaching. First few weeks are HARD. Lab work 5+ hrs per week. Has a personality to him but it helps keep the class alive. Overall nice guy once you get used to it. HW and Tests are pretty spot on. Wish that their was example HW and the HW was a little more indepth. 8.5/10 :D
Prof. Martinez is a great teacher. Premade note packets and he writes all his own labs so they line up well with materials covered in class. Lectures are great and engaging, Lots of funny stories and real world examples.. Easy grader gives a ton of partial credit on exams and labs but i liked his teaching style and learned a lot , highly recommend
Prof Martinez grades fairly and has a pretty straightforward class structure. While he's also very funny, his humor is a bit too caustic. And he shouts a lot for sitting front row for a 9 am class. If you take him, be prepared for someone who has accepted that he's a mean person who enjoys an audience.
Martinez's lectures are very entertaining, while also very insightful. He always tells you what will be on the exam. The only problem you may find is that he is loud and has an insensitive sense of humor, but if you're fine with that (I personally liked it), prepare to learn a lot and maybe even enjoy yourself.
