Dr. McWeeney is very intelligent and knows his stuff. He does expect a lot from his students. Although he is tough and I've never studied so hard for a single class, he wants his students to succeed and will spend time with those struggling. I believe his tough demeanor will make his students better nurses and more prepared for the NCLEX.
Dr. McWeeney is an incredible professor to have. He has very high expectations for his students but he is always willing to help and makes time to ensure his students are successful. Study/do NCLEX questions on particular subjects to ace his tests, as well as do Prep-U questions. Both really helped me do great in his class. Absolutely love him.
Professor McWeeney is a pretty good professor. He does a good break down of all the disorders, and his power points are very good. He also brings a lots of experience from the working in the E.R.
Professor Mcweeney is very knowledgeable and skilled NP in the ER. But as a professor he is very tough and complicated. I've never studied so hard for any class before to meet expectation. The questions he gives for quizzes are extremely confusing and I will need some recovery time to recuperate after his class.
He is great, I learned so much from him and he pushed me to be a better student. Although he challenging and sometimes not really friendly or approachable I an grateful to have had him as a professor! He will prepare you for NCLEX! If your not a strong student you will struggle or maybe fail. If you can handle a challenge take him!! No textbook use
I highly respect Dr Weeney. Yes he is a challenging professor he makes you work for your grade, but personally he was an amazing professor. He gave review after exams and was responsive to emails. Med surg in general is a very hard class but you are in good hands if you have him because u will def b prepared for NCLEX
Dr. Weeney was the most challenging teacher I have ever had. He forgets he is teaching students who have yet to take the NCLEX. His review sheets are a lie, he tells you what is/isnt on the exam and he lies about that too. Struggled to much in his class, so many people were failing. Get ready to stress out all semester. IF YOU CAN AVOID HIM, DO SO!
Mcweeney is by far the best teacher at Adelphi. He really puts himself out there and teaches his students the absolute most that he possibly can. If every teacher was like him, every nursing student would pass their NCLEX on the first try. If you actually pay attention and study you will pass no problem. Med Surg and Pharm 2 he was amazing

His class is ridiculously hard. He teaches his students at a NP standard and throws a lot of unnecessary information at you.
While he is knowledgeable, hes not the best at teaching. He gives way too much information, especially during an already tough semester. On top of that, meeting with him was not helpful at all. He is very detailed and requires way too much time than one can give. You will have no life once this class starts.
I really appreciate his teaching style, thus I am not sure why he has so many negative reviews! The extensive detail that he provides you with actually aids you in understanding the topic better. So if you understand the concept and study hard there is no reason that you should do poorly in his class! You'll be grateful that he knows his stuff!
Please run. Give way too much info that you really don't need to know and isn't on exams.
Best professor I ever had!! He makes you work for your grade which people hate, but you learn so much. Nursing is not memorization anymore so just do practice NCLEX questions. If you struggle, go to office hours he will teach you how to approach questions better. Once you realize what info is extra and what is NEED to know its less scary! Smart man
Professor Mcweeney is amazing educator. Yes he gives the students lots information and the background of the diseases that he go over, because he knows that 95% of the students don't know the patho of diseases .So if you lazy and want to be"just what i need to know" nurse then do not take him and quit nursing, because nurses should know everything.

This is the hardest class I've ever taken. He preaches the rules yet is almost always late and ALWAYS runs over class time making us late for our next class. His tests are extremely hard. As an NP he teaches to that, not RNs. If you see his name on your registrar RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO SEE SUNLIGHT!!!!!!
Prof. McWeeney needs to realize that he is teaching Undergraduates. His tests include material that he does not include in his lectures leaving you to teach/fend for yourself. He is late to his own class even when it is online which shortchanges his students even more. Save yourself a lot of stress and trouble and find a different professor.

He fails to recognize that some students have separate responsibilities besides his course. He spoke to me 2 feet away from the students which he tried to call private in the most belittling and condescending tone to the point were I was crying. Because my assignment were late for his class he told me I should not be in nursing. I have a 3.75gpa
Whoever says he prepares you for the future is not being honest. You will not learn anything from this class and it will be one of the worst classes you'll ever take. He does not prepare you for exams or for the future. Vague material. Expects you to teach yourself and know everything from the textbook, and even that is not enough. Good luck.
Professor McWeeney is a great professor. He is a very knowledgable individual and should be highly respected. He expects his students to know the class material before the class and he wants to expand your knowledge further than you know. His teaching style is unique and is in the format of NCLEX questions.
I don't really understand these negative comments. I feel like ppl are commenting on someone else. I missed the Prep U assignment-he reopened it! I got 84 on my first exam, and I got a little bit upset, he called me saying such caring and encouraging words. I have a million examples: Dr. McWeeney is the most amazing professor at AU. THE BEST!!!!

Reading all these comments at the beginning of the semester scared me. But in all honesty, he really is a great professor and wants his students to succeed. I feel most people feel that they should be spoon-fed the material and told exactly what to study but in nursing you should learn and know everything so you can be the best nurse you can.
Worst teacher. Expects you to know textbook front to back. He gives 3% effort. No type of guidance or teaching. You have to teach yourself. Exam are ridiculous. He has a lot of knowledge but doesn't know how to share/teach it. Leaving that class i feel like i learned nothing from him, everything i know is from LAB and clinical experience. Good luck
McWeeney is such an amazing teacher but you have to put in the work! He gives your everything you need, and he sets realistic expectations. If you need extra resources or office hours he will go out of his way to do everything he can for you. I learned so much McWeeney
I barely passed his class, however, I feel like I learned a lot and I really respect him as a professor. He knows what he's talking about and is very knowledgeable.
Professor Mcweeney is probably the hardest professor I've ever had. He was way too broad, I would literally attempt to study the whole textbook for an exam and worked hard to achieve mediocre grades because you couldn't miss a small detail..... anyways I respect him because he was motivating. He is the WORST professor I have ever had. He doesn't teach, has pre recorded videos of lectures and expects you to watch it/know it before attending class. doesn't answer emails and is extremely rude during office hours. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
This class was THE hardest thing I've ever done. For a nurse, this man is the most inconsiderate person I have ever met. Posts multiple 1-2 hr long lectures/week & expects you to have them done before class. In class the case studies he does are no help. Tests are impossible & took away my love for nursing.

Hardest professor Ive ever had at Adelphi. He doesnt lecture during class so instead he gives case studies which barely were any help. This was the most difficult class I have ever taken in my life. Ive spent HOURS each week preparing for this class and still only passed by a couple points. He is obnoxious to his students, makes you feel dumb when asking questions, and causes way too much stress for students, especially during a pandemic, no consideration for others.
Everything negative you read ab him is true. I went into the semester optimistic because I had no other option. His teaching is different, but very informative. He has no shame in failing you by a point, EVEN if you were an avid participator. He told students they have a knowledge deficit while reviewing tests. Just terrible & rude. AVOID
Change your professor. He takes the love out of nursing. He's very knowledgeable sure, but he will belittle you and make you feel like you aren't good enough for this program. Acts like we are NP's. Ive had some hard professors before but there's nothing like him.

Dr. McWeeney is a very knowledgeable professor! Going into the semester I was nervous reading the reviews but put the time in and study! Learned so much in such a short time span.
Take him!! Do not be afriad he genuinely cares about his students and pushes you to be the best nurse possible. Start off strong so you can relax a little towards the end. It is a hard semester in general but Mcweeney wants you to pass and understand the material. Do the work outside of his class and you will be fine. Practice questions are key!!
Mcweeney has very low professional abilities and isnt able to convey the material in a manner that reflects good scores for exams. Is extremely rude. I studied 60 hous/week and was still not able to pass comfortably. Beware of some reviews. How can he be "so great" when every semester half the class drops? Good luck if you have him for pharm too.
i love this man!!! these reviews are so low for no reason. yes the class is super hard but its gonna be a hard class no matter who your professor is. hes one of the smartest professors ive ever had and completely changed the way i understand nursing material. if you take him, you'll learn so much.
Professor McWeeney is a great professor, he explains concepts really well. The class itself is hard, but as long as you put in the work you should be fine
This professor is great! His lectures are very interesting because he doesn't read off of a PowerPoint. This class is a hard class, but he makes the material easy to understand. His tests are fair if you put the work into it and study a little each day. 10/10 recommend taking his class.

To pass this class, I recommend making a concept map on each disease, including the patho, the expected findings, labs/diagnostics and the medication. I used the textbook for the patho of the disease and some of the meds and then I watched his lectures and read the ATI book. study everything. I went from low 70s to high 80s this way.
My best advice for his future students is to do well on all your exams & quizzes because he makes the final brutal. You definitely have to use outside resources in order to do well. He's not a terrible professor it just takes time to get used to him and his teaching style. I'm not sure if I would take him again.
You are expected to learn the material outside of class. He posts hour long videos and power points last minute right before class and you are expected the next day to do case studies on those certain topics. When I started to use outside sources to teach me Med Surg topics, I was receiving better scores overall. He makes the exams too difficult.
Mcweeney is very knowledgeable and a great teacher. I have never learned so much. His teaching style might not work for everyone, he doesn't read off slides he uses case studies and other interactive ways of teaching. He gives you all the resources you just have to put in the work.
mcweeney is very knowledgeable about the topics in medsurg, but his tests are very difficult. you have to learn the topics before being taught, and then learn it again after class. his case studies are not helpful. his reviews after tests are worth joining. i would not recommend him to a friend.
I'm sorry. he's terrible and idc how good other people say he is. he makes you hate nursing. Who cares if he's knowledgeable? his knowledge does not help you. You want to succeed and love nursing? Take someone else. save yourself the headache.
Dr. McWeeney is an intelligent person and you will learn ALOT from his lectures. This course itself is extremely heavy. Lots of work such as case videos, quizzes and tests. Be prepared to read and know everything. Test are difficult and worded weird. Do good on the first 2 exams and quizzes. Final is hard! Great professor though
Believe all the negative reviews, I have done well in the nursing program up until I had to take Dr. McWeeney. He is rude during office hours, reviews, and via email. No matter how much effort you put into this course, he does not acknowledge it and will hold it against you. Biggest mistake in my nursing education thus far.
This subject is difficult, but he makes it even harder with all of the assignments and quizzes. Posts grades extremely late, not responsive to emails. Takes about 3 days to respond, which is not helpful in an online program. Lectures are interesting but tests are tough. You have to read everything. Take another professor if you can.
I was a straight-A student in the nursing program until I had taken Dr. McWeeney. Do not take this professor if you don't want your GPA ruined. He is not helpful if you're having difficulty in the class. He does not reply to his emails. He does not care about his students' grades or well-being.

He teaches you so much, and makes you UNDERSTAND content, rather than memorize. It is very possible to pass his class, put that effort in and you will pass! Med-surg is one of the HARDEST courses you will take as a nursing student, so obviously its content heavy. Don't let the reviews scare you!
Prof McWeeney is a hard professor, but he is caring and easily accessible if you need him. I felt very encouraged to review all quizzes and exams with him. He will make time if you make time and express where your difficulty is. He has helped me answer nursing questions appropriately and better.
Just awful. Tests you on material that is being taught on the same week. He focus' on minor details & not the broader concepts then formulates questions in a confusing way. I've never struggled this much in Nursing school. Taking him now in grad school and this one class is throwing me off compared to all my nursing undergrad classes COMBINED!

he is so rude to the people that are failing while they're trying their best to improve. He blames the student for failing his class since they aren't putting "their all." It was the worst semester of my life, online class, never saw him once, didn't teach anything, always denied to meet even through Zoom, he should not teach graduate students and/or online.

I really do hope Professor McWeeny takes into account all these reviews. His teaching might work on a select few and some pay pass however it is without a doubt his teaching is flawed. His exams are super hard. I wish it was because of the amount of content or because of topic complexity. I find the wording of his questions the most challenging
He is literally one of the few professors in Med-Surg that knows how to teach. If you don't want to be star struck when the final arrives i recommend having him as a professor. He's very nclex based with his questions, but they are not impossible. Take notes, record his lecture, watch his videos and you'll literally pass the class.

Prof. MCWEENIE Was a wonderful fruit cake of a professor, his style was rivaled by NOBODY, he liked to give kids answers on the exams and made his exams very easy and straight forward. he loves hot dogs and plays with his toy helicopter as he teaches. He is probably the best and most flavorful professor due to his zesty nature. likes to blow kisses
Didn't even take his class but i took his final and it was the worst exam in my life, craziest questions all of them being select all that apply with 10 options and millions of case studies.
DR Mcweeney is amazing. Truly one of the best professors i have taken. He is very lecture heavy and test heavy however he provides you with so many resources and is very accessible when it is needed to go over exams and questions. As long as you watch his lectures and pay attention to his class you will do great.
This professor does not seem to prioritize teaching or student success. He has multiple jobs and it shows—he's often unavailable and doesn't provide feedback after exams, making it hard to know how you're doing or how to improve. It feels like he's just going through the motions. Would not recommend if you actually want to learn or feel supported.
The professor is awful and has no regard for students. He is always late to class and causes students to be late for the following class. It is impossible to pass these exams and he will cause you to reconsider your major. Do not take him if you want to fail. His finals and exams are impossible.
The worst professor ever. He lets students get away with cheating on many exams without any consequences. It's unfortunate for students that actually try. He constantly says he's not here to be our friend and how his reviews mean nothing to him. I hope he takes some of these into consideration because he needs to change his ways.

Honestly Dr. McWeeney was a great professor. You definitely have to put the work and the time in to study to pass the class. His tests and quizzes are difficult but nothing in nursing school is easy. It helps prepare for the final because of how he formats prior quizzes and tests. He makes time for his students and I could he truly cared.
The amount of effort reflects the grade you achieve. Great professor would take again!
This was a very class but you have to put in the work to get a good outcome, like everything else in life. He is very flexible and able to meet over zoom or in person to go over grades and shows you exactly what you got wrong. People are failing because the material is hard, not because of the professor. Amazing professor, don't let these negative reviews stop you from taking him! He encourages critical thinking which will be used when you graduate, so he's doing you a favor. The people who fail, fail for a reason, don't let it stop you from taking his class.
Did not have him as a professor but his final exam was brutal. Simply impossible to answer any of these questions even if you know everything about the material. He had no consideration whatsoever that other clusters are not being tested the way he tests. The final exam will ruin your confidence and make you feel like you knew nothing.
these people are mad because they failed. don't let the bad comments get to you. for med surge he was the best Profesor to take at Adelphi. very clear about what he expects. his exams were everything he talked about in class. you are not going to pass this class if you don't put in the work
Please don't let these bad comments get to you!!! Compare to all the other med-surg proffesors at Adelphi he is probably the best one. His way of teaching is very organized and in depth and he doesn't miss anything everything he says is on his exams.
People that are putting bad reviews of him are mad they failed, medsurg is one of the hardest class no matter what proffesor you take, he is a really organzied proffesor and explains everything you need to know and very engaging in class as well. His class is alot of work but he prepares you well for every exam.
He is truly one of the best professors I've had so far. His teaching style does require outside work to be put in, but it's so beyond worth it. Med surg is a lot of information as it is, and i feel he has us understand the material instead of memorize, which helps so much. I cant recommend him enough. Put in the work and you're fine!!
Ignore all the negative comments. Mcweeney goes above and beyond for his students AS LONG AS YOU PUT THE WORK IN. His different teaching style has helped me tremendously to put the work in outside of class so that in class lecture go smoothly. He wants nothing more than for you to succeed and he will help you strive for success.
Its been a few months since I have taken this professor, and I am still mortified. I think about how brutal my semester was with him several times a week. He was recently assigned to one of my classes for next semester and you bet I switched professors QUICK. Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

If you came here to decide whether or not to take this professor in the Fall 2025, this is your sign to NOT take him. His teaching style and exam style can certainly work for a select few but it does not work for most. Nursing is hard as it is, spare yourself.
Dr. McWeeney is incredibly knowledgeable and loves to share that knowledge with his students. Always supportive and patient, he is a true expert in his field and you can tell he enjoys teaching. Explains everything clearly and makes learning engaging. Would take him over and over again. THE ONE AND ONLY!
These negative comments are bothering me a lot! Exams are tough, but they are made by the school, not Dr. McWeeney! I am saying this because some say his exams are hard, but my friend had another professor and got the same questions. No matter who you take, the exam is the same. One fact: You will never find better than Dr. McWeeney!
Tough. I would strongly consider other options. Yes, there certainly is much better.
