Keep up with rdg./lecture notes. Be sure to meet all deadlines for online postings/journals/papers. He formats the class so it isn't hard to succeed, but you do have to be willing to work. He's always available for help & gives a ton of resources to help with papers and exams- use them & you'll do well. His class is entertainig & informative.
On a positive note, he is truly passionate about teaching. He will keep you interested. However, his quirks stressed me out way too much for a "diversity, stress, and health" class. He even rushed through a meditative practice. Everything was rushed and intense. Please slow down so that people can enjoy and absorb the lessons.
Awesome dude! take this class if you want to learn about diversity and stress. Good teacher and also hilarious.
Passionate teacher and very helpful. Class is VERY easy if you simply follow directions; he outlines assignments and posts all lectures notes online as well as midterm/final study guides. More than willing to discuss grades/problems. For Upper division classes his classes are easy; this is college expect to at least read the material...
Murphy was a really good Professor. He was excited about teaching and conveyed passion about health throughout his lecture. Class is just sitting there listening to him lecture but he should incorporate more group activities. He's HOT-ness is another reason to go to class ;)
This guy is awesome! One of the best professors i've had while at SJSU. He's hilarious and easy to talk to. He's a younger guy so he knows where students are coming from and he's up to date with the world! There is a good amount of work but stay on task and you'll be fine. I highly recommend professor Murphy
Very passionate about diversity/stress/health topics. Easy to understand. Well organized, and easy to talk to. I enjoyed this class. KIN 169
Definitely the best teacher I've had attending San Jose State. Makes you want to come to class even without requiring attendance. I definitely agree with the previous comments... He can definitely hold your attention :)
Great Teacher! Young, so he relates to students well. One of the most helpful teachers I have ever had. Makes one of the toughest classes interesting. Respectful and ends every class by saying "You are bright and wonderful people".
He is the best teachers I've had at SJSU so far (it's my second year). He always keeps the class interested in what he's teaching. I like that he tries to relate his personal life to the lecture so that we can understand it better. It doesn't hurt that he's also very good looking..
He is a very cool and interesting teacher. He always keeps the class interesting and he makes it hard to fall asleep. Everything he talks about are interesting subjects. there are three essays that are pretty tough but not impossible. Good teacher overall
He is a great teacher. I really enjoyed his class. He really tries to make class fun. His teaching is straight forward with his teaching and you have like 5 writing assignments the semester, which isn't bad at all. I highly suggest this teacher to anyone who is interested in Health Science, or even just for a GE. it's worth it.
He rocks! He has a great sarcastic sense of humor and wears classy ties. He's very helpful, works you hard, makes class time valuable and puts himself out for his students.
I am a better writer because of this class. It is a difficult class, but murphy will walk you through the process step by step as long as you take the initiative to see him during his office hours. Great teacher, high energy, but he needs to improve his time management.
He is nice and talks a whole lot. Powerpoint is his best friend. He favors some students and not others. Not always timely with grading papers don't give you back your research paper. His grading is unfair, again with the favoritism. Need to stay current with his research. He rushed everything when hes running out of time. I did not enjoy his class.
He is good looking but not enough for anyone to take this class over a winter or summer session!!!!!AVOID IT. 2 7 page papers,2 huge exams, 4 quizes, and 800 pages in 2 weeks. Not worth it.
Amazing! If you wish to be inspired, TAKE HIS CLASS! If you wish to gain awareness about social issues, take his class. Hysterical sense of humor (very out there & silly, if that's not your cup of tea then oops). My favorite class at SJSU yet! Yes, he's good looking. He becomes even more appealing when he begins to inspire students! Love him :D
This man speaks fast, but its b/c there alot of material in this course(also entertaining). Nevertheless, its an easy course, especially if you pay attention to what goes on in our society. Murphy tends to add in his personal opinion occasionally. Murphy has a polarizing humor, but you will stay awake learn something. I RECOMMEND THIS COURSE.
One of the best teachers I've had in my 4 years at sjsu.. Definitely not an easy A but you get your moneys worth! Guarantee that you won't fall asleep in his class..He'll make even the most boring material interesting. Won't be 1 class session where you're not laughing at his comments. One thing for sure.. you really learn with this teacher.
Although I wanted to literally throw out that hot pink reader/textbook required for his class, it didn't take away from how great of a teacher this guy is. Interesting, sarcastic, nice, and funny.. He's a great lecturer and he knows it haha, this guy definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to social issues. Take him!
His lectures are fast-paced, entertaining and interactive. He's a funny, loud guy, but also very smart. He encourages debate and discussions. Don't be fooled though, it's a hard class so pay attention and work diligently. A quality professor at SJSU and a pleasure to have! And he's cute and has an interesting fashion sense!
Very cool professor. Stay on top of the writing assignments and the reading. He keeps class lectures interesting by insulting students:) (in a friendly way). He will never get fired, but if he does, he has a future in stand up.
Daniel Murphy is by far the most outstanding professor at SJSU. He is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, helpful and most importantly funny. Taking his class will not only increase your general knowledge about current issues but also make you a better person. He is one of those teachers that will challenge you and inspire you to achieve more.
this guy is the definition of a professor that cares about his students. he is very chill, makes lectures engaging, helps you examine yourself as an individual. though he makes you work for the grade, he is definitely a must have teacher. i've had this guy for 2 other classes and i can only say it's been a real pleasure having him as my professor
Great professor, like everyone says you have to do the work to get a good grade. He gives you all the resources necessary to succeed so there's really no excuse. Also he actually really does care for his students. Best professor i had at SJSU. "Does that jive?"
Great teacher, though activities such as papers and in class work are difficult you will learn a lot from him. Just make sure you post and do all your lab assessments.
Unclear on expectations, hard grader, gets off point, doesn't stick to syllabus, but if you love writing mass amounts of papers you'll love this class, which averages about a paper a week.
His class is hard. You will be writing papers every week, which ill tire you out. But if you do want to become a better writer, take him because he really does make students write better. Plus in a boring class like this, least he tried to make the class funny. Oh and btw prof..here's your chili pepper.
interesting lectures
Good teacher, engaging lectures, tells it how it is. Interesting person, professional, gives you everything you need to get an A. But, expects ALOT from you, SLACKERS stay away! Gets off topic sometimes, yells at the class, if late/unprepared. Can influence you ideology: politics/morals.
I took this class for fun and i'm so glad I did. He's one of the best professors at SJSU! He makes class fun/interesting and motivates you to be a better student. Do the work because he's a hard grader but don't back down because of that. This class is totally worth it! 2 midterms,3 papers, weekly online postings, 1 group presentation, and a final.
Professor Murphy sets an excellent example for his students. I took his class and found his lectures to be very funny while getting his point across very well. Professor Murphy makes sure that he can help you in any way possible by stressing to visit him during his office hours. I recommend taking Hs 01 to cover the E section for GE classes
Professor Murphy has a vested interest in his students and a passion for teaching.I took KIN 169 over the winter and it was a lot of reading and writing but made a valuable impact.Murphy is easy to talk to and relates well to students. His inquiry teaching style makes you internalize the material and makes it meaningful and personal.MurphyRocks!
I would deff. recc. this prof to anyone. Gives you everything you need to succeed. Always challenging students' beliefs. Always funny and engaging never a dull moment. Funny enough to do some stand up on the side. Even talked about Armenians in his lecture. Lectures not limited to sports either. Good guy even if he's a socialist ;)
I deff recommend prof murphy, fantastic professor. He is willing to go the extra mile for you. 3 essays, but not bad at all, he gives you the outline which is veryyy helpful. Tests aren't too bad, he tells you what is on it so you don't have to study everything. Great teacher and if i could I'd take him for every health science class.
DL Murphy is AWSOME! Take his class if you want to be a better APA writer. The class was challenging - he gave us writing assignments almost every week + 2 presentations, 2 exams, and 1 big paper. Seemed too much but he was always willing to help us to successfully finish the class. And..I never wanted to miss his lecture because he is hilarious!!
Really goes out of his way total sweetheart!
AWESOME!HILARIOUS!ad HELPFUL! he gives very clear lectures ad the tests are right out of his lectures, plus he gives you questions that will be on the test prior to the exams, plus study guides. 3 papers, 1 presentation but are not hard to do. I wish every prof was like him. 100000% RECOMMENDED
I had my doubts about Daniel, but boy did he prove me wrong. This man is an amazing and very conscious lecturer. THANK YOU for exposing the LGBT community in a very humane and positive way. Please keep that positive energy for future students! See you next sem. HS135!!!!!
He's so handsome. Murphy is great teacher! He is passionate about life and encourages students to be the same. He is entertaining but keep the class engaged and used class time efficiently. He cares about his students not just passing his class but also succeeding in life. I highly recommend him! I know I will cuz most importantly I learned a lot!
This was my first semester as a HS major and he definitely made me feel like I chose the right major. He is passionate about what he teaches. He stresses the class topics in a way that students can relate through discussions, powerpoints and films. His class is not a boring lecture everyday. One could miss his class, but I never did-he's great!
At first he came off a little arrogant, but he is not at all. He really cares about his students. His lectures are interesting and he really engages the class. He doesn't just give out busy work for homework, it's relevant to what is going on in class. Great teacher. Would take from him again.
Awesome teacher, definitely recommend. Very passionate about teaching and the class, although lectures can be somewhat long and he talks fast, he engaged the students and made us laugh. Be ready to work and yes you will use the book!
No words can describe how amazing Murphy is;Funny, engaging, helpful. You actually learn a lot in this class. Material(even book) is interesting, helpful, simple.Semester consists of weekly postings,2 papers, midterm and final.Does a lot to help you with the papers. Over all very fun class-just do your part and you will pass!
You pay 3500/month for a college education right? Well, its teachers like Prof Murphy who make the expense 100% worth it. If you go to college with the intent to learn something, TAKE HIS CLASS... not to mention he's got the skills to probably be a successful stand-up comedian on the side, your class will not fail to laugh at least once every class
Alright, Professor Murphy is by far the most intelligent human on campus. All of his facts and stats are backed up by research that he will gladly show you. His class has 14 postings, 2 papers (kind of hard), a midterm and a final. If you pay attention (it's hard not to because he's so funny) then you'll do well. TAKE HIM!!!!
Professor Murphy is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I've honestly had to work hard in his class because english inst my first language, but he was very helpful and understanding throughout the semester. After taking his class i feel like i have learned a lot!! He's a great professor, and a very nice and intelligent person!
Out of all my classes (even my major classes) I enjoyed this class the most. He's a great teacher and really funny. Good grader,do your readings, and you should be fine. That's all you need to know. TAKE THIS CLASS
Funny, funny guy. But, he's disorganized and frantic. During lectures he jumps into diff. topics or books mid-sentence. Favors certain students over others. Heavy reading. For an A, plan to teach yourself. He does about 40% of the teaching in class, but, tangents into another topic mid-lecture.
Aside from the daily random desk kicking and trolling, Murphy knows his stuff. He's very informative. His honesty and vision on life is respectable. At times I found it confusing for assignments because what he'd say in class would be different than what's on the actual assignment guidelines. Overall, the experience was well worth what I paid for.
Mr Murphy! Had him over summer 2012. Best teacher at San Jose State, straight up! He is a really smart guy and really seemed like he was on a mission to make everyone not only succeed in his class, but in life too. He tells you exactly what will be on the test.
Mr. Murphy is very entertaining (he kinda hates the world). Very energetic, and extremely smart. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He can guarantee to increase your assignment grade by 1/3 by use of office hours. Also...he is a SUPER germaphobe. Kind disorganized in the sense that assignment criteria is always changing. Definitely a good teacher though.
Out of five years of school here at SJSU, he's up with the best there is. His class is always entertaining and practical. His sense of humor ranges which draws a wide variety of people to enjoy the class. Useful information and well presented. You WILL enjoy this class period.
He was very animated and passionate about what he talked about, which made the material easier to understand. All around awesome teacher. I wish more teachers were like him.
Murphton can effectively teach his subject w/o being confined to his ppt -so well I found the book a bit excessive.Never a stale moment. He's only strict in regards to work ethic.Grades nicely, but he don't like students feeding him Cinnamon Troll Crunch nahmean. It's no "easy A" joke class.Don't take a spot from someone who really wants to enjoy it.
Had a night class but his lectures were always animated and interesting that class would be fast. He is fun and sarcastic but does take his work seriously. Grades fairly, spells it out so that there isn't any confusion. Assignments and workload were decided by the whole class sections (not up to him) but it was a fair amount.
Murphy is dedicated to his teachings, but he is rude, sarcastic, and opinionated. Class requires a bit of reading. Murphy doesn't stick to the syllabus, is all over the place in lectures, and is unpredictable in his "moods". He'll tell you his opinions whether or not you care to hear it. Material is interesting but Murphy can be hot and cold.
Professor Murphy strives for his students to succeed in- and outside of the classroom. He shows great enthusiasm and passion in stimulating his students intellectually to learn more about the realities of life. He treats his students with respect and expects academic excellence from them. It has been a tremendous joy taking his course.
Prof. Murphy is an intellectually engaging and enthusiastic instructor. He is passionate about what he teaches. He expects a lot out of students but basically spoon feeds you all the information and details you need with lots of examples and handouts. Attendance is not mandatory but do not expect a high grade if you don't go.
The good: Very informative teacher. Very helpful and available. Very passionate about what he taught. Also does provoke thought and teaches about areas the general public is uninformed of. The bad: A very strong believer in Marxist ideologies. The majority of his lectures have strong undertones of indoctrination. More neutrality desired in lectures
I have taken Daniel Murphy's classes for three semesters. My life would be drastically different without his display of clever insight and compassion. He has given me the tools to understand how important critical thinking skills are. He is a great teacher with a great personality. The lack of effort in students is what makes him mad, do you work.
Daniels comedic attitude and expressive dialogue makes the class a real treat to attend. Daniel brought up a lot of subjects I never thought would be talked about in a college class. It was a very enjoyable experience even if some of the subjects were daunting to hear about. If you go attend San Jose State you MUST experience this teacher!
Daniel is the best professor I've had at SJSU so far. It doesn't feel like he's just trying to unload content onto you. It genuinely feels like he wants to TEACH you important things about health and society. He has a lot of interesting ideas and he is a funny and fascinating guy. This class is not exactly easy, but it will change your life.
Daniels class is by far my favorite at SJSU thus far. He creates a atmosphere that encourages thinking outside the box and into the future. I loved his lectures- chalk full of info, relevant, and foreward-thinking. Keep up with the reading, attend class, and you will do great.
Very intelligent and knows how to capture the classes attention. Not very approachable, rather intimidating. Expresses personal religious viewpoints too freely.
By far one of the best classes I have taken here at SJSU. Doesn't give a huge work load, but expects you to do well with the little work given. REASONABLE, after all we are college students. He is very real, and most teacher sugar coat reality. Amazing humor that captures a classes attention. I would recommend him!
He is very passionate about his work and that translates into his delivery and enthusiasm in class. He is ironic and sarcastic and if you have a sense of humor you will appreciate the way he teaches his class. I personally believe that learning is based on the student and that teaching is a form of guidance and not spoon feed. Class is easy.
HS 102, by far the most enjoyable class! Really had a great time and he made every 3 hours night class interesting. He is probably my favorite teacher because he has so much knowledge and keeps it real.
Blah topic but Murphy made it interesting
Great professor really teaches you how to write if you let him teach you and as for help. You have to work hard in this class but well worth it in the end
Amazing teacher. Funny teacher who grabs your attention throughout the whole class. Teaches so much more than the book teaches. Teaches you to be a better person to make a better world. Go to class, do all of your reading. Take a class with him, GPA might not be perfect, but you will come out a better person.
Daniel Murphy is an awesome professor. He wants students to succeed, and does everything he can to help while still making sure we work hard to earn our grade. He provides multiple resources to help with assignments, so if you put hard work in, you'll do well in the class. Read the book, go to his office hours, and don't procrastinate!
Down to earth teacher. Really easy to talk to. Makes class interesting and funny! Definitely one of my favorite teachers at SJSU.
Daniel is a great teacher and really works at making his students better writers. This is no easy class and you must work hard to receive the grade you want. He sets up the entire class to work towards your final paper, building on your skills as you go. Use his office hours, read the book, attend class, and work hard and you'll be just fine.
Make sure to keep up with the online postings and study his midterm study guides in advanced, everything on his study guides ends up on the test. One thing I have to say in terms of area of improvement is when you put a movie to watch, interrupting every 5-7minutes to note something very obvious isn't necessary and can be annoying.
The class is hard. You have to put in the work if you want the grade. Daniel is a great professor and he sets up the class so everything that is turned in is preparation for the final paper. He's sarcastic and funny so don't be offended at what he says. He is always willing to help his students because he really does want us to succeed.
He is organized and very specific. Follow the syllabus, do the postings, and go to class. He is passionate about teaching, so be passionate about learning!
Best teacher I've had so far at San Jose State.
I took his class during summer. Thought 4hrs class would be boring, but I was wrong. He makes each and every topic very interesting. Take his class...He will show you what a real world looks like. At the end you will learn to become a better person.
Very funny and interesting professor. His lectures will make you want to attend every class. However, he often gets lost track of time. Overall, a VERY understanding and HELPFUL professor.
One of the top 3 teachers i have ever had. Its hard to miss his class. I commuted and never missed a class He really gets into his lectures. Makes it fun to learn. He wants his students to succeed. Just have to write two papers. Whatever is on his study guide, it will show up on the test. Take this class! Every teacher should be like him!
He is one of the best teachers at SJSU. He is probably one of the very few teachers that I can say truly cares about his students. His class is very hard. You have to work for your grade, but he's always available for help. He's very funny and keeps the class loose.
Professor Murphy should be the mold for every teacher in America. Not only does he understand the source material, he teaches it in a way that truly makes you begin to question everything you already know. We will challenge you beyond belief but by the end of the class you will walk out with a sense of pride. He has been the best professor ever.
By far the absolute best professor I have ever had at SJSU! I actually enjoyed going to class! If I was not about to graduate I would switch my major to KIN in order to take more classes with him. He gives you everything you need to pass the class all you have to do is just put in time and effort. I recommend that everyone take his class!
I took his class for winter session. M-F; 4 hours each day with a few breaks in between. His lectures really interesting and he likes to make jokes here and there since we are learning about some serious topics about lifethe world. 2 research papers, 2 exams, daily postings on canvas. A life changing class in 2 weeks; you wont regret it!
TAKE THIS TEACHER. Especially if you are an athelete or Kinesiology major, you will learn so much in his class and you get to watch movies about sport and critique them.
Murphy is a very passionate professor and I learned a lot in Kin 169. A big part of this class really affects your life, things I will remember as I grow older. However, I believe Murphy's teaching style is very hectic. A 1.5 hour lecture feels much longer. A lot of information, he talks very fast. Still a good class, just be prepared.
Very inspirational, engaging and fun teacher! It was fun watching movies and critiquing them but them amount of papers and writing you had to do was not worth even though you did nothing but watch movies. Great teacher though.
Love his lecture style, although I'd prefer if he'd be just a little more sensitive about how he talks about younger folks. (Telling us "except for you guys" doesn't really help.) Very stressful group project: 6-people-groups... too large. Loved the papers though! Also loved his choice of videos. A mostly inspirational class! :)
There is only 1 midterm, 3 essays, and you get to make your own sports film! Amazing lectures and fun learning environment. Plus you get to watch sports movies!
Great instructor!
Murphy is awesome, he definitely has his rocker soccer edge to him. He hates when people don't go to class, but why skip it? Every class you learn a little more about him. A couple times he flew through the lecture and basically sat there and talked to us to get to know us. Awesome teacher and love seeing him around the hallways
1 midterm that he gives you the study guide for during the beginning of the semester. And a group project for your final. Definitely one of the best classes at SJSU.
He's like Dr. House with the look of Ben Mackenzie; cool, funny, blunt, realistic, brilliant, and youthful. Cares about his students - helps a LOT if asked. Great speaker, he should do a podcast. Gives study guides. Generous grader. Cons: paper due day of midterm, paper grading unclear, and he forgot some topics (i.e. Hans Selye, magazine project).
I could listen to this guy talk all day. Some people might find him obnoxious but I found him hilarious and really enjoyed coming to class. He makes material easy to understand and tests are easy - as long as you do the study guide. However about half of test questions come from reading so make sure you do the study guides by the text before exams.
Best professor I have had at SJSU thus far. He will make you laugh. 2 Exams, 2 Essays 1 Group Project with no presentation. He makes the class very exciting which made me want to come to his classes. I did miss a few classes and I was actually bummed I missed his lecture. He gives you study guides/outlines for the exams, essays, and project.
Murphy is great if you enjoy teaching yourself the material for exams but are still required to go to class. He is so scatterbrained and doesn't teach at all during class. He goes on rants about how much people irritate him and gets frustrated with students when they ask questions. Shows many videos in class but stops them every 5 seconds to talk
Amazing perspective and pace of class incredibly interesting topics and views of the world. This Teachers awesome and will make you look at people and life differently. I would definitely take this class again a great summer course! Very specific on what assignments are supposed to look like nothing surprising. Well prepared ans pationate
He is a really cool teacher with a great sense of humor. If you like funny teachers who do their job well this is defiantly a teacher you should take. The class is awesome and an eye opener to the background of sports. He offers extra credit and its sort of hard to fail.
He is a very fun teacher and is passionate about what he does. He is willing to help as long as you ask him. His workload is reasonable. Though sometimes the lecture schedule may not match with the actual class, just make sure to ask him about those dates. He also gives out extra credit and a study guide for his exams.
This guy is if Kevin Hart was a professor. Super chill and funny that makes you want to come to class. Class structure is simple and easy. Discussion post every week. 2 essays that's easy to write. He's a fair grader. 2 exams and he provides study guide in beginning of semester. It asks very simple questions like "What is the U.K's national sport".
Prof Murphy is a great professor! he makes class fun and interesting and I never wanted to miss a class. Leaving this class I have learned to see film differently and also learned about life. The only thing i don't like is the way he grades papers. He copies and pastes the critiques for each person and everyone similar grades despite how you write
Good teacher. Cares about the class. Class has 2 midterms which he gives the study guide questions and where to find it. Though its not exactly the same as on the test. 1 group project.
Perfect teacher! He is hilarious and his class never gets bored! Easy grader!! Show up every class and study the study guide he posts on canvas A. 2 Papers, 2 midterms and 1 final plus 10 discussion post. He also gives extra credit and round up and down your grade! Took it over summer and the easiest upper GE Class I've ever taken!
Great professor! He cracks jokes in class and makes the class really entertaining. He does go on a lot of tangents and loses track of time. But his tangents are interesting and he really makes you think about today's world. He says you need the text book, but you really don't. Highly recommend taking him!
He is super funny and he made this class super fun to go to because of all of the small jokes he would make. He gives a bunch of extra credit and it would be really hard to not pass this class because his study guide is pretty much the exam questions. Most of the things he test on is from his lectures and videos so go to class.
Professor Daniel Murphy is a funny guy, he makes good jokes, and well basically he likes to talk lol(not in a bad way). Took KIN 169 on winter session, and he managed to make a 4 hour class interesting and not boring at all. Not exactly an easy A, but if you do the work you'll pass.
Not good at teaching the material to students. Get distracted a lot. You need to be able to self-teach this class because the tests are from the textbook, and less than 50% of his lecture is usefull. Paper is annoying to write, not clear direction. Doesnt do a good job of explaining the assgnmnt in person but tells you to look on canvas and read it
Professor is amazing. Always there to help if you ask. Not a difficult professor or a difficult class as long as you give your 100%. If you can do the basics, then you can easily get an A because for the only two exams we have, he gives you all the questions in advance, just find answers beforehand. If too lazy for that, then youll struggle.
You literally cannot fail this class because he provides you with a guide and a lot of resources for EVERYTHING! Dr. Murphy is one of the coolest professors who keep it real with you. Do the readings to better yourself. Enjoy the class because it flies by really fast; I get sad when class ends because it is one of my favorites.
It's hard to not pay attention in professor Murphy's class as he designs the class to be interactive, and the class topics are relevant to your life. He is passionate about his work and he cares about your success, which is seen from the content of his canvas page as everything you need is there. Give you lots of time to complete assignments.
Professor Murphy is my favorite professor of my college career. He genuinely cares about every student that takes his class & it shows. His lectures are amazing & its rare to have a professor teach with the passion that he does. Grade based on 2 papers 2 tests & discussions posts. This class takes you across the world & Murphy is the perfect guide!
Often replies to questions with snarky comments. Shows no compassion for students and difficulties during the pandemic. Assignments are more busy work than relevant to the course. Emphasizes self care and reaching out for with any questions, but gets upset when you reach out. Avoid taking online, maybe youll have more luck with him in person.
Professor Daniel's enthusiasm to teach the course was inspiring and fun. The class was online & had the option to meet once a week. Daniel is understanding and cares for all students to succeed in his course. He put effort into making this virtual learning as smooth as possible with the class layout. Do the work & it's an easy A!
Mr. Murphy was great. He is a great teacher that doesn't waste my team. He even worked with me on due dates and making up late assignments because I had issues during the semester.
Murphy was a great teacher, he obviously cares for his students and loves his job. We had a weekly quiz and discussion post. Some recorded lectures and youtube playlists to watch, also weekly. Two 6pg papers. Would definitely take him again.
KIN111 fulfilled my grad requirement but I also realized that I really did enjoy the class and the content; super straight forward class and style of teaching with clear guidelines and clear grading criteria, which was much appreciated. Super cool and super chill, deserves the pepper symbol forsure. Would take again.
Professor Murphy is a great teacher. He makes very lectures interesting and the tests and quizzes are pretty much based on lectures/videos. In short, watch the lectures and do the assignments and you will be fine.
This class was very straight forward and easy. Weekly discussion and quizzes, midterm, final, and 2 papers. Professor has very clear instructions for the both papers. Even provides an example of a paper and other handouts that are very helpful.
We wrote a lot of papers, but the topics that we wrote about were personally very interesting to me. The final paper is a topic of your choice, and he gives templates for the other ones. He was a super nice and friendly guy, and you can tell that he is truly passionate about his classes. Asynchronous, which is good and bad.
Super passionate about sports, and he really tries to engage with the students and make the course interesting for us to learn. weekly discussion and quiz thru lockdown browser. two research papers (6pg) w clear outlines of what he wants. just keep up w the weekly assignments and you'll do good dw.
Great professor! He gives students a variety of options to learn from (videos, articles, etc.). Quizzes or discussion posts due on Sunday based off the powerpoint. Two papers based on a sport from your country of origin and any of your choosing. One midterm and noncumulative final. Super solid choice for Area V GE!
He is one of the best professor at SJSU so far! His class is so chill and funny. There are quizzes and discussion posts every week, but they are not difficult if you watch his recording lecture and reading the book. There are 2 papers, but they are easy since the guideline and instruction are ready for you to follow.
Professor Murphy was awesome. He is extremely caring and a lenient grader, I 100% recommend him!
Professor Murphy was amazing! His modules are very organized and he teaches using the humanistic approach. If you have any questions or issues feel free to reach out to him. He is more than understanding. Finally a great professor at SJSU! Take his class for credit or major requisite you won't regret it!
You really need to work hard to get an A in this class. I feel a little overwhelmed with the 2 papers in this class. You have to do long readings and video clips for reviewing the 2 exams and quizzes.
The work load in this class can be too much. He has research papers AND exams due the same week, which is very hectic. Attendance is mandatory & you have to actively participate in the zoom chat. For being a class that discusses stress / health, I found it to be one of my most tedious & stressful classes this year. No one received an A on essays.
This class had essays AND exams due the same week which was very stressful. He would mark points off on essays just to give no one an A. Participation was required. Yes, he is nice, but his workload is honestly ridiculous and probably the most tedious classes I've taken this year. He does not round grades, even for .99 super annoying.
This class was great! The pre-recorded lectures made it easy and fun to learn the material at my own pace, and the professor was very clear in his meetings. There were also extra credit opportunities, weekly quizzes and discussions, 2 papers, and the tests are entirely based on the study guide. Very hard to FAIL. Absolutely my fav SJSU professor.
This class was very interesting. The layout was very easy to follow and he is such a fun teacher.
You really have to put in the work for this class. Barely got a solid A because he rounds his grades to the nearest whole number. Does offer extra credit but for a very small amount of points like 0.1 for each ec. Do the study guides! Be hella extra for the 2 papers. Definitely attend his lectures for attendance.
Murphy is very straight to the point about what he expects, super caring. Attendance is mandatory bc its only one check-in lecture a week bc you have to watch the lectures on your own time. Most if not all of the quizzes are on Quizlet which is why it's easy, but grades SUPER tough on the 2 essays. The exam is 40% and essays are 40% of your grade.
He is the best online professor I have ever had. He cares about his students and takes feedback on where he can improve. He provides the exact questions for the weekly quizzes, midterm, and final. He grades pretty easily and gives great feedback for the two papers. Lots of resources are posted on Canvas. No reason not to do well in his class.
Kindest and best Professor I know. He is really supportive so it is difficult to not do well in his class. Expect two papers (4-6pp) in kin 168 classes
He gave lots of materials to read, provide incomplete questions of the tests in advance. Work hard you will pass!
Tried asking a question in class and he got snappy/passive aggressive in his response. I think he thought I waited til the last moment for the assignment, which wasn't the case, I was just asking for clarification before I turned it in. Probably was just a bad day but I noticed he had an attitude often with students asking him questions.
Professor Murphy is engaging and cares about his students. While the workload can be heavy with weekly quizzes and two research papers, using resources like Unstuckstudy makes the class manageable. Overall, a solid choice for an Area V GE.
The professor explains concepts well, but the workload he expects is overwhelming. Additionally, his exams are the most tedious I've ever taken at SJSU. If you have the time, his class might be worth it, but if you're busy, I would recommend avoiding it.
Love the prof! You can tell he actually cares for his students and wants to set them up for success. However, class has a ton of material and although he doesn't expect you to go through it all it is beneficial for exams. Big group project and as long as you have good teammates you'll be fine. He grades super fast and not too harsh. I recommend.
Teacher was really nice, I would take him again. There is a test once a week and a view lecture every week. So just make sure to pay attention as you are leanring and he grades fairly.
A stress class that stressed me out. Get ready to have a heavy load on this class with quizzes and test. Lectures were ok, but they were recycled as the dates did not match. He did say I used some AI on my paper which was not the case. Extra credit points is a joke. A stress class that gives you stress but he says he's rooting for you.
His zoom meetings weren't even true lectures, they just told us what our agenda was for the week. Thought it'd be a low effort class, but not really. Group project throughout the whole semester. Easy class, but boring. Chill prof tho
