He's cute, but not a good teacher. Also, I think he was on time to class once the whole semester.
Incredibly arrogant. Worthless as a lecturer; never shows up on time! Has no concern for his students; enjoys demeaning students in class. Actually referred to a student as "stupid."
he's pretty funny! i mean class can be interesting at times, but its a hard subject. You have to keep studying for the tests and quizzes. no need to buy the book unless you want more insight. He let me keep a BETTA fishie! :)
very hard. very interesting. very attractive. very self absorbed. I took him during a summer session and wanted to pull my hair out. I passed.
I hate biology, and had no desire but to pass his class. I actually liked going to his class. He made it interesting. You cant miss his classes tho... Tests come straight from notes. Just study those and you have an A. One of the best teachers I had at TCC for actually gaining knowledge. I didnt have him for lab. Lec was easy compared to lab
O'Connell has passion for his subject and makes it contageous for his class. Test directly from lecture notes. If you take in-depth notes and show interest in subject matter, Dan will push you to thrive. He is not as professional or "exact" as some, so if you prefer anal retentiveness, opt out. O'Connell is the best for inspiring a love for scien
Dr. O'Connell tells a lot of dumb jokes and is easily distracted but he knows exactly what he is talking about. He looks like Dr. House from the t.v. show "House" and is just as arrogant. If you attend class every day and listen to his suggestions about how to study, you will do fine. But really...you should listen to his advice about studying.

I had him only for lab, he pretty much said there are the bones/slides go memorize them, and then he would chill out cruising the net.when test time came around he was such a picky grader! he took unneccesary points off! on a positive note though, he's more than willing to help you!and the rare times he did lecture in lab he was interesting&funny!
Took him for Lab during spring semester. If you chose to ask a question about the topic he degraded & humiliated students by stating that they & their questions were stupid. Point is, he seems irritated by teaching new students each semester. Who on earth finds him attractive is beyond me! He looks like Gallaxhar from Monster Vs Aliens
Just say NO! Do not take this arrogant, immature prof unless you are more than willing to teach yourself and have at least 12 hours a week to devote to studying. His class notes are disjointed. He is hard to follow, humiliates students, doesn't care about his appearance or whether or not he is on-time to class.
he is an ok teacher i guess...i thought his lectures were interesting...meaning, funny...but i feee i didnt learn alot..he just tells u to remember things. he can be a jerk sometimes...just roll ur eyes and u will be ok...his test are the worst part...some of the questions are confusing and it can be unclear as to the answer he is looking for...
It's true how he can be immature and silly, but he can be friendly at times. He's just being himself, I guess. A&P truly is a hard class. You should listen carefully and take good notes in his lectures.
I took him for A&P1 lab. He teaches for a short amount of time. Most of the lab is for independent study. He will help you if you ask questions. He can be insensitive sometimes. Push through it - he is preparing you for the tough environment of healthcare. You can do well if you study A LOT and go to the science learning center.
A&P I with Prof. OConnell is going better than expected... I am going to agree with the people who say he is arrogant and disrespectful. NOBODY wants to speak up-if you get it wrong he will tell you to READ or drop the class. He rolls his eyes 85,000 times per class, give or take. That said, he's funny, thorough, and looks like a younger House.
I would not recommend O'Connell to anyone. Like many have said he is VERY arrogant, disrespectful, and just LOVES to make students feel stupid. I think he forgets that he is teaching A&P at a community college. I will never take him again if I can help it. He is just overall strange and just doesn't act like a prof. should.
Dr O is just too weird for his own good, but he's okay with it. He doesn't waste his time helping the slackers who don't study. By being a total **** and hot from far away, he encouraged me to study more. You have to teach yourself. He is there to help, if you can figure out the correct question.
Dr. Dan is a get teacher. Well this is a hard subject to be studying, you know it or you don't. You have to realize that he is teaching a black and white subject and it's like that with every teacher. They all teach the same stuff, you can't blam him for not studying enough, and he is always there to help. He's funny and that helps you forget for
He's a good lecturer. He really knows the subject and is interested in it. Some people don't like him because he's sarcastic, but I think he's funny. You will do well if you study.
He's a pretty good teacher. Knows what he's talking about. He gets a little off topic some but if you're good at kind of ignoring that sometimes then you will do fine. Class is hard but mostly because of the material.
Super disorganized. Tests on his notes, which are all over the place. Anywhere from 5-30 minutes late to almost every class. Often absent from class entirely. Says that you should study the material on your own and use class time as a review for the test. I won't be taking him for A&P II.
If I had to guess, I'd say the people making poor comments are the ones looking for someone else to blame for their poor study habits. The class is hard, no way around it. You have to study. Oconnell is funny, nice, and super cool. He wants you to be self sufficient, but he is a helpful dude. He made class fun and kept our attention!
i liked his class. he is not going to give you a grade and it is a class that you have to learn and memorize a lot. but he was extremely charming and charismatic which made it easy to learn. will go over material more then once and answers even the stupid questions. if you want boring he is not your guy. ;)
He's tough, but I think he's good. I can see why he's not for everyone, but he's preparing you for the real world of nursing school. this class is a beating, unlike any other class, its HARD! But put in the work, come to every class, and STUDY like crazy, you can get an A. If you are looking for an easy grade, take someone else. p.s. he's funny
His lecture is interesting and keeps you awake, the tests are hard. His personality is definitely weird, kinda anal. I don't think i would take a second class from him. Also I don't know why anyone would think he is hot.
He is awesome and really funny! Of course this is a hard subject to teach and he makes the best of it. He really cares about his students and you will do better if you come to class, pay attention, and read the book. He is also very helpful and sarcastic. Don't take it the wrong way, he means no harm by it. Funny!!
B+ - I like his teaching style. He's not for everyone. He doesnt give a test review. Be ready to work your ass off no matter who you take - if you want a high grade. He makes it fun, unlike other A&P instructors who are soo boring. You still have to study a ton on your own (DUH) U dont want 2 B hand-fed anyway, Nursing school is hard! Get ready!
he's a cool teacher, i like the way his mind works. keeps it fun. curves his tests and they are all multiple choice! study study study!
good teacher. i liked his teaching style, but some others in my class didnt. depends on your learning style, but i would take him again for sure. i didnt use the book at all. he tests over his lectures but i used online resources to study. this guy is fun and keeps it interesting. i got an A in his class.
I usually dont comment professors cuz I usually find somethin I dont like in most of them but Dr Occonel is one of the best science teachers on this campus.. wish i had him for lecture..
Only had him for Lab, but always went back to lecture feeling as though I had missed out on what everyone else was getting because he rarely did efficient demonstrations of the material. Might as well just go to the Science Learning Center since much of your lab time is spent studying on your own anyway.
A&P is not an easy course! He is a great professor. He made it interesting. His tests are straight from his lectures. So go to class, study your notes, and you should do great in his class!
O'connell is the best. he is by far my favorite science teacher. I took him for ap1 and ap2 and loved it. his test are strictly from his lecture notes. so if you can take good notes, you have your A. his classes are always funny and interesting.
I loved Dr. O'Connell so much in A&P1 that he was the only professor I even considered for A&P2 this semester. He knows his stuff; keeps everything very interesting and relates it all to real life examples that help you really get it.
He was very difficult. There were no study guides and no help from him. If you take his class plan on memeorizing the book. He says that he test over what he speaks about in lecture but he just rambles on and on. You never know what is important and what isnt.
I had the pleasure to have Dr. O'Connell as my instructor. He is very sarcastic, but I never had any problems with that. I think he is very funny, actually. The best part is that he really knows the material and is great at explaining it. Quiz every class -very easy- and two tests.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Hardly teaches or writes anything on the board &is off track. No reviews. Ever.LABS ARE EVEN WORSE. No curves even if everyone fails& too lazy to make his own tests. We set up an tutor hour & he never showed& didnt even apologize. He doesnt care about his students AT ALL. I love bio& I had to work so hard just to pass this class
Great guy, Funny as all get out. I didnt pass because I really didnt try. He is not the reason anyine will fail. I wish he were teaching it again. I would def. recommend him. Show somw interest in Rugby for some brownie points.
don't listen to the nay-sayers! TAKE THIS CLASS. I am taking him right now for a&p1 and i am so glad I snagged him for a&p2 because he is interesting,he knows his stuff, and pushes you to improve your study habits. He shows you how to do so! He will not hand you answers, he makes you try to figure it out first which is a good thing. sign up now!!
This guy knows his stuff and is straight to the point. A&P is not an easy class but if you study hard and take good notes, you will get an A. Science classes are not for the weak.
If BIO comes easy to you and you have a minimum of 12 hours/week to study take Dr.O'Connell. If BIO does not come easy to you or you have been out of the classroom a few years and require organized teaching DO NOT TAKE HIM. You might as well take an online class, lectures all over the place, tests not thought out and labs not taught! AVOID.
Does not appear to be interested in teaching this class. No doubt about his intellegence or knowledge of material. He is not on time; sometimes forget his notes and does not give power point.
This is a GREAT class. You can definitely pass it. If people didnt pass it's because they did not study. EVERYTHING in his tests is straight from his lectures. Record his lectures and take thorough notes on them them. I use the textbook to further clarify if needed. Will take him again for AP2!
He does jump around a little but if you record his lectures you'll catch it. He describes things very well and is interesting and funny to listen to. Test can be a little tricky, you have to study alot.
Great guy, loved his class. If you take good notes, then you'll do really well. Record his lectures. Used the book as more of a reference. Very funny, tests arent too bad. Would definitely recommend. too bad hes not teaching AnP II.
He is a good teacher, very interesting loved his class! Have to study a lot, that's normal.
The class is really interesting, and dr oconnel makes it alot of fun. Definately will take a lot of studying to pass..tests directly from lecture, lecture right from the book. Fun class, good teacher, can pass easily if you study.
BEST professor I've ever had. explains everything, demonstrates, bends over backwards to ensure you understand it. if you don't pass his class, it's your fault! You did not study!
I agree w/ all the positive reviews. few additions: Lab exams are an order of magnitude harder than the lecture. This is true for anyone you take b/c it's made by the department. The lab book and objectives sheet is your bible. Invest in a smartphone and record and take pictures of EVERYTHING. Take pictures of more than one slide of the same thing.
Awesome teacher, hard class. Get over it, it's college. He does his best to make sure you know everything. Take Dr. Dan if you want to LEARN A&P.I highly recommend him and fyi, I usually hate science so it says a lot when I actually enjoy coming to class. I got an 88%
Such a great professor. Makes the information relevant and interesting. Easy to pay attention to. All test questions straight from the notes. Pay attention, take good notes, and study and you can get a good grade. Really enjoyed his class
dr oconnell is so funny and makes learning about really annoying and boring A&P actually tolerable. i got a B but i could have worked harder for the A so its not his fault. you need to book and LISTEN to the lectures and take really good notes. would definitely recommend. he's an awesome teacher.
Dr. O'Connell is a great teacher! I had problems with the first two tests, but once I realized everything was on the notes I took in class, I aced the other tests. He gives extra credit, and replaces your lowest test score with your final, which is super helpful. He's really funny and tells the best stories! Took in summer, and I still managed an A
O'Connell is a great teacher. This subject matter is not easy to learn. O'Connell makes it a little easier.*YOU still have to study your butt off* He livens up what can be a very boring class. I took him in Summer 2 and earned an A. I had no life, but I wanted an A. You need your book, take down every word he says, and record him.
Cool dude. Has lot's of good stories. Caused a lot of trouble as a kid if you ask me. Study textbook and record lectures. I took the class over the summer and it was surprisingly hard. Study hard and listen to the lecture recordingsrepeatedly. Tests straight from lectures. PS: Did not rate 'hotness' level because I am a guy.
Tests are straight from lectures. Test questions are common sense but tricky. His lectures and stories are very interesting.
Had MUCH respect for this person..last 2 weeks of semester eroded much of it..winter weather hit.Students still required to take finals even before previous test had been graded..thus, no way to fully prepare... since finals counted as 2 grades (also replaced prior lowest one)students unduly punished.hard earned A turned into B because of this!.
He is really funny and the lectures are awesome. The labs however are not so good. He just tells you to follow the steps in the book and that's it. There is no explanation to anything that is going on, you have to figure out everything by yourself. There is a lot of studying involved.
Explained things well and made class interesting. Definitely need to attend class all the time. Listen and take good notes and use the book for clarification and reinforcement. Exams are multiple choice but the questions are not easy- need fully understand the material, not just memorize it. You will retain what you learn in his class well.
I was afraid to take Biology so I decided to take it with the best rated teacher. He is awesome and makes the material fun. The labs are what I struggled on alot cause some higher up people make the test and its sooo hard! I had to drop but would definetly try it again with Dr. O. Best professor at TCC but loves to say random jokes in his lecture.
Dr. O'Connell is awesome and hilarious. This isn't an easy class, but why would you expect it to be? It's Bio for Science Majors so trust me it'll only get harder from here. You do have to read the book and attend lecture. Lab was hard but that wasn't really his fault since he didn't have control over the test questions.
Doctor Dan is a fantastic teacher! The lectures are loads of fun. You must attend class or you will get lost. I also recommend recording the lectures to listen to as you study. Make sure you write down EVERYTHING he puts on the board. I would love to take another one of his classes.
Dr OConnell is an amazing instructor! He covers material clearly & is extremely helpful. He breaks up some of the monotonous material with relevant funny anecdotes, & sometimes will even throw in a random funny story to give life to a dull class. TAKE GOOD NOTES - exams are straight from lecture notes. Record lectures. Read ahead. You'll get an A
His exam questions come word for word from his lectures. You will do better on the exams if you don't even use the book to study. His labs are completely confusing and have nothing to do with the lectures. There is no lab manual and you will make mistake after mistake because no one has any idea what they're doing.
Dr. O'Connell is strictly a lecture man. No HMWRK, no quizzes. The tests are based off of his lectures but it does help to read the book. I tried testing just off his lecture notes and got a low B and C on his test. Once I used the book to add some clarity to his lecture I was pulling out As. He keeps lecture interesting and spouts out Marvel jokes
I loved Dr. Oconnell class. I took him for both lecture and lab. He is an amazing professor (and super hot too :D) Make sure you take notes. And if it helps, record his lectures as well. His tests are straight from the lecture with two questions from the book. If you need help, he's always there. Super cool guy.
Super cool professor (and not to mention hot! :D) I had Dr. Oconnell for both lecture and lab. For me, I struggled more in lab than I did in lecture. Taking notes is key. His tests come directly from his lectures with two questions from the book. If you have any questions or need help on certain subjects, he's there to help you.
He knows his stuff, knows what parts to hit on, presents massive amounts of material in a logical manner, tests are straight from lecture notes, he's very objective in what he expects of you, would take again no doubt. Stories are good, keeps a high stress class low key and fun
He's a very, very good prof. He knows his stuff and wants people to understand what he is teaching. This is NOT an easy class, but he is easy going and freaking hilarious! Tests are much harder than you would expect. Record him from the beginning. If you're 30+, he is hot! Wish I could take him again.
I thought I was going to fail this course because every said that, it would be one of the toughest classes at TCC. I went in the class and wasn't even that bad. The professor is hilarious, very helpful, and is very clear in the class. Take good notes, record lectures, and read the book, you do well. Taking him for 1407
Dr. Dan is a pretty awesome professor. He is super knowledgeable and really knows his stuff. He teaches for the test, but his tests do require you to think in order to answer. Super funny guy and he made the material very easy to understand. Makes lectures interesting too. Def would recommend.
Had him for summer. Gives short, entertaining, concise lectures. 5 tests that are straight from lecture material, easy to get a B on with minimal studying, easy to get an A if you study more than an hour or so. (Did not have for lab)
Doctor O'Connell is a VERY tough Professor and makes you earn your grade, but nevertheless you are better for it. By far my hardest class ever but he makes it so interesting, also his ability to read the class is impeccable. Whenever he finishes a really tough section he'lol break up the monotony with a REALLY cool story. Ask about the deer story!!
He is hilarious but his lectures are all over the place. He goes from point A, to B, then to C, then back to point A and expects you to follow along! If you ask questions, he'll either sarcastically answer or tell you to look in the book. Tests are tough, he admittedly words things tricky. If you're VERY science smart, go for him, otherwise don't!!
Took him a couple semesters ago for A&P and Bio, but I can't describe how helpful his classes were, even to this day. All my future classes regarding similar material has been cake due to what I learned in his classes previously. Tests are 100% over lectures, wish I could take him for every class. Best prof I've ever had.
Dr. O'Connell is a winner. If you show that you're willing to put in the work to get the grade you're after, he will like you. He might come off as offensive, but he is a smart, funny dude and a good guy. Took him for Bio II and did alright mostly, but made a 62 on the first lab exam. Rebounded to make a 100 on the final and an A in the class.
Took him for 1406/1407 both lab and lecture and I learned a lot. He is hilarious and will make biology very interesting and easier to understand. Just study the lecture notes and you'll be fine. Can't recommends him enough, I would take him for my other courses if I could. Great professor!!
TAKE HIM! This is coming from a student who took him for both bio 1406 & 1407 who learned ALOT during the courses. He is hilarious and the lectures are great in terms of understanding the tough concepts of the material. Best science proffesor I have taken so far!
Really funny lecturer--his stories make you laugh. His tests are fair so pay attention in class! He's a great prof.
I really enjoyed his class! Some people don't like his personality, but I did. Read or skim the chapter before class to have an idea of what he is going to discuss and you'll pass. Showing up to lecture is a must!!! There is no homework, only 6 test grades. Show up, take notes and ask questions and you'll do fine. I'd gladly take him again!
Read the book and take your own notes from the book outside of lecture time. Don't try and write it during class -- you can't write that fast. Use the class lecture to add extra explanations or examples to your own notes. You absolutely won't pass if you don't read the book or don't show up to every lecture.
He is cool, but his test are difficult. He says stuff sometimes that is hard to understand.
Dr. O'Connell will forever be my favorite professor and here is why: he really cares about his students and appreciates their efforts! Just took him for summer l lec/lab and made an A and currently taking him for the second half. Show up on time, record him, study your notes and you will nail the exams! I learned a lot from him! Great person!(:
TAKE DR. DAN. TRUST ME. No homework, your only grades are tests and papers. If you don't show up and take good notes you WILL fail but just put some effort in and you'll pass. Audio record lectures. You'll have to work for your A but nobody said bio was an easy class no matter who your prof is. Dr Dan is a super cool dude and tells funny stories.
Dr. O'Connell is one of the best professors I've seen. You have to work for your grade. Pay attention in lectures and take good notes. His tests come from them; if he didn't say it, it won't be on there. By chance, if there is something he didn't cover, just ask him. He will make it right. I highly recommend his class. It's work but not boring.
Brotha Dan is super chill. Don't be an idiot tho. You gotta go to class and take good notes and it will be a piece o cake. He's super funny and keeps it lively. No lecture homework makes him a bro and no textbook is needed. 5 tests and that's it. Knows his bio stuff. Best professor! I already signed you up for him!
He is very funny and cool. His lectures are easy to understand. All is fun and nice until the tests. His tests are far from the notes that you take or whatever he goes over in class. If you just take this class for science credits then you will be happy with a C or a B. But for people who try to get in medical programs, I don't recommend him.
He sublimely explains the most complex of topics such as genetics; therefore, saving me hours to reread and lookup what could of been ambiguous topics. His lectures are well prepared. He is a down-to-earth gentleman who is never reluctant to help you.
I took Dr. O'Connell for Bio2 over summer and he was awesome. He has a great sense of humor, is down to earth, and makes his lectures interesting. His tests can be tricky so don't rush through them; you'll have more than enough time. I definitely recommend him and regret not taking him for bio 1. P.S.-Start a conversation about lawns.
Had the privilege of taking him for Summer 1 and 2. Be ready to write EVERYTHING he presents in lectures, all the questions will be based on them. This class will make you a great note-taker or break you. I highly recommend this class, Dr. O'Connell truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
You definitely earn your grade in this class. Pay close attention to the lectures. Record if you can. The lecture tests are mostly multiple choice with a few short answer. Labs are harder. USE THE LAB BOOK! All of the lab questions are covered in the lab book. Study consistently and thoroughly and you'll do fine. I'm taking him for A&P II as well.
Dr. O'Connell isn't difficult; anatomy & physiology is difficult. The class is amazing though, and I loved every bit of it. Dr. O'Connell is smart, funny, truthful, funny, helpful and funny. If you listen to everything he says, then you will pass. When you take notes, write everything down. EVERYTHING! I am taking him again for APII next semester
You cant slack off in this class. ESP for those lab practicals, 100 questions fill in the blank are no joke. I would advise you to study study study! Dont let anything fall behind and just keep up with the material. He is a funny guy and keeps class entertaining. The hw assignments are through econnect with multiple attempts.
Dr. O'connell is an amazing prof , I took him for bio last summer and he made a subject in which I chose to major in more simple and more interesting. His lecture is his tests so pay attention and read if you did not completely comprehend. He was chill and very understanding of our situations outside of school. I got an 88 just takes reading.
Don't miss class. Tests are lecture heavy, if he doesn't mention it, it won't be tested on usually. Funny. Fair.
I honestly feel sorry for anyone who doesnt have the privelage of taking Dr. O'Connell. This dude is absolutely hilarious, passionate about teaching, and very engaging with the class. Greatest professor I have ever had and I am not just saying that. Literally just pay attention to what he says and that is all you need for the test. TAKE HIM
Take his class! He is passionate about the subject and hilarious! His lectures are crucial to passing, but he does tell you you what you need to know for tests. Minimal outside assignments, a few online quizzes. He is really a good instructor who wants you to do well, but it's a hard subject and you have to study. Take his class and STUDY .
Take him! I took his class at 7:30am!! I never fell asleep or dozed off once in his class because of his enthusiasm and humor. He's hilarious!! He has great lectures and great patience for students. This class is a MUST to participate in. you have to show up and have to study or you will not pass. His lectures are crucial to your tests!
Very funny professor who never tells you a thing you dont need to know. A&P is a very difficult subject, but hes very clear on what is important. You will need to study a lot to pass; youll need to study every night to get an A. Very good professor, just be prepared.
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT TCC IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT. He gives every student a fair chance to succeed. Show up and take notes and you will get a good grade. I've taken Dr. Dan for Bio 1 and 2 and he has really shaped my knowledge for biology.
The best biology professor you could ask for! Not an Easy A by any means but if you attend lectures, take good notes and study you should be just fine. Dr. O'Connell will work with you and answer questions if you ever have problems.
This was my first TCC class. It was an easy A! OConnell is a cool professor. Hes really funny and interested in animals/the environment. I didnt study much for this course. He told us to give him advice and the only piece of advice id give us to go more in depth in lecture (Im probably the only student that feels this way, I love the material)
Doctor Oconnell is an amazing professor who is passionate about biology and tells you everything you need to know for his exams. However, if you are the type of student who prefers more structure (reviews, powerpoints, etc), then this class is probably not for you. His exams are based off of his lectures. You NEED to take great notes to pass.
Words can't express how incredible of a teacher Dr. O'Connell is. Took him for Bio 1407, A&P 1, & next semester I'll be taking him for A&P 2. He has a heart of gold. You'll never find a professor as understanding, hilarious & genuine as him. He makes difficult topics very intriguing. Dr. O'Connell is a rare gem. Take him and you won't regret it!!!!
If you pay attention to class lecture; you are good. He takes FOREVER to grade, plan on waiting weeks. Rare quiz in class, 10 questions. Don't take his lab if you need taught; quizzes weekly, 10 questions. If you are lucky and have time outside of class to go to his reviews or his office, he will help a lot, if not hard to succeed in lab.
When did they get rid of the chili pepper on this thing? He deserves one lol. He is a great teacher, really knows his stuff. He doesn't teach with powerpoints or outlines so you have to really pay attention and show up to class. Don't worry, he makes it interesting. And no tentative schedule but he tells you about a test at least one week prior.
A&P is a hard class anyway, but O'Connell's style is lecture hard, study hard, test hard. You can record and take notes during lecture, my advice is to listen and watch him, write down the bullet points, and go back and study the texts later and do more in-depth notes. You need the texts books, and the flashcards are nice. Get ready to study.
He is funny but 'funny' won't get you a passing grade. His tests are unfair IMO. He needs to put more multiple choice and less short answers that are on average 3 points a piece (he is a tough grader on these). All we did was quizzes and tests. There was no homework or extra credit to backup the overall grade. He doesn't care if you pass, or not.
Lecture you have to pay ATTENTION & better take damn good notes. He will say this will be on ur test so write it down, then it's not! his short answers on test is tough. Lab theres a quiz every week. 10 questions only. SO STUDY! UR basically on ur own. NO homework. OVERALLGrade is based off of ONLY quizzes & tests, which takes him 3 weeks to post.
He is entertaining, but like some one else said that does not get you a passing grade. He gets easily distracted and re-listening to his notes make it hard to follow along. He is not an easy A. He also does not set you up for success for the lab practicals. You are all on your own for passing those and for the lecture test. You cant slack at all.
Dr. OConnell is an amazing Professor! He is engaging and keeps you interested in the lecture. Hes funny and is always interactive, making sure you understand. You will have to actually read and work for your grade but he is clear in his expectations. He is not a professor who has forgotten what its like to be a student and works with you.
Dr. O is a good person, a funny man &is smart & knows his stuff but he's not really the best at trying to teach the material-makes it tough. He talks the whole time in lecture, so record. He doesn't have powerpoints so studying comes from your notes. Tests are hard. No HW. Your grades just come from tests & occasional quizzes. I am retaking it....
Very funny Course says the book isnt required and his lectures are like thats whats coming on the test. Dont be fooled 1. READ THE BOOK and way more resources(then compare to notes) 2. RECORD HIS PRESENTATIONS (Even though its a pain to hear the jokes over and over again) 3. MAKE HIM QUESTIONS I figured it too late... will repeat class
45 question test w/ short answers. Dont be fooled when he says to only listen tho his lectures. READ THE BOOK. Talks all of lecture but gets VERY off topic. Says certain things wont be on the test, they will be!! Record his lectures, read, compare notes. Only hand written notes. Nice guy. Will be taking again with someone who can explain better.
O'Connell is an amazing professor! You do need to show to class and be prepared to take notes, no power points, and all tests except for the final have short answer questions. Book is beneficial to supplement some topics from his lectures. Sometimes would get off topic during lecture but I found him to be quite funny! Take him!
He is a good human being and I liked his lectures ( no powerpoints just fyi). The hard part was knowing whats going to be tested on since there are no reviews extra credit or curves :( he did however make class enjoyable but test were short with 40ish multiple choice then around 6 short answers Quizzes nothing like the test sadly different wording
Best professor I've ever had. Absolutely hilarious. Every class was enjoyable and his expectations are very clear. He's really understanding, and cares about his students. A&P sucks, but his class makes it worth it! Take him!
He's very knowledgeable and hilarious. He is willing to help if you need it! I got a B and I put in 75% effort. He gives you a lot of outside study materials. Tests and quizzes are hard if you don't study. I am taking him again for A & P 2. I recomend him if you're a visual learner.
Took him for summer & he was so fun! Prob the best bio professor I've had, learnt a lot. Connects well with students, we had a small class which was even better. You have to put some effort in as its a Bio Majors class but as long as you put the time to study & SHOW UP, you'll pass. He's nice & will work with you. Taking him again for A&P
Not sure why this professor doesn't have a 4.9 rating. He is an amazing lecturer and makes learning actually really fun. The only thing I would say is to just ask a lot of questions in lab because he is kind of hands off and wants people to take control of their own learning, but he is always available to help.
Professor O'Connell is literally the perfect teacher -- gives informative lectures (no lame powerpoints), always has a positive attitude, engages with the class constantly, and has pretty okay jokes. The class itself makes you know a lot of info, but he always give everything you need for tests and quizzes. As long as you study, it's an easy A.
He is the best professor I've had. His lectures are entertaining and funny. He also makes the very abstract world of A&P a lot more relatable with his explanations.
O'Connell is one of the best profs I've ever had. His lectures are straight to the point, he's the most consistent teacher I've ever had when it comes to tests. It helps to record him because he doesn't always write everything he says on the board. He's charming, funny, and always has a random but good story to tell about himself. Highly recommend!
By FAR the BEST TEACHER! No powerpoints, so yes, you will need to attend class and take notes! Best Advice, record him on top of taking your notes. Helps alot! Also make sure you participate and ask questions if you don't understand. He is very helpful in relating his stories or examples for you to better understand a subject.
Bio is a hard subject. Took him for summer & he made Bio my new fav subject. He was funny & lectures were always amazing. I never wanted to fall asleep. Im passionate about my choice in career because of him. Will take him again for A&P. You have to buckle down & study for exams. Take notes & pay attention. Lab was fun too & do-able.
Dr. Oconnell is by far my favorite professor Ive had. Yes, I got a D, but that was completely on me, I didnt devout much of my time to studying. Hes hilarious. Answers questions well. NOTES ARE IMPORTANT!!! HE DOESNT USE POWERPOINTS! But hes still 10/10
Dr. O, is a great professor, makes you understand A&P. However, there are no power-points, your notes is what is key, so make sure you don't slack off. You are able to record his lectures which I strongly recommend and take great notes. Took him for A& P I and II and got an A for both! If you put in the work, your will be able to pass.
Dr OConnell is a great teacher. But you have to put in the work in order to do well. He goes over everything that will be on the test in his lectures but very rarely will he actually say what will be on the test. No power points and no reviews. Record him and take detailed notes. If you are confused just ask and he will clarify.
Dan is a great professor. He understands what everyone's going through and he encourages you when the class starts getting tough. Make sure you take extensive notes and ask questions when you're confused. In lab make sure you video the dissections and take pictures of the models
Good professor . You just have to make sure to study the material or you will fail the quizzes. And the exams are basically the quizzes put together which is super easy
I loved Dr OConnells A&P class! Its definitely tough, you have to show up and study, but he gives you every opportunity to succeed if you put forth the slightest effort. He is entertaining and makes lectures fun. If you are struggling with something, just ask and he will help you make sense of it. By far my favorite professor!
O'connell was very unclear about what you needed to know in lab, and put the work entirely on the students with no direction. He would say things weren't important, or not cover them at all, and then put them on the test or quiz. He wasn't so bad in lecture as long as you studied all your notes, but his test questions were extremely vague.
He is probably the best professor I have ever had. He gives examples to make understanding something easier, he makes these funny little jokes during his screencast. I have not finished the class yet, but if I somehow fail, that would be all on me. He makes a hard class seem less miserable. BEST PROFESSOR!!!!
I thought I was not going to move forward with my nursing due to me having a hard time with Biology. I am so glad I gave Biology another go because Dr. O explains things in increments and goes into detail. He wants his students to understand the material, always responds to emails, and loves what he does. Best Biology professor in my book!
Sadly, he is not my professor, but he posts screencasts/videos for the department, so I was able to learn from him. He does reviews before the lab midterm & final and he's clear on what is on there and what is not. Only passing my class (diff professor) because I have an A in lab. Wish I could've been a student of his! He's witty and a smart man.
He was a lab department professor for all students who take A&P 2 and I think it is a bad idea that I have a professor assigned who I did not sign up for and have no access to contact him. His screenshots and videos were not enough for me to study for the tests and there was no clear direction what to study for.
Dr. Dan made lab for BIO2402 really enjoyable. With online course, he went and pre-recorded all lectures and had material available in advance for you to study. There are a LOT of tests for lab. 1 quiz every week. 1 test every month & a midterm and final lab exam also. (It's sad because I made an A for lab, but it only counted as 30% of my grade)
Do NOT take Dr Dan for anything! He is an absolute power happy, condescending "teacher". Very lazy. He does not care about his teaching his student. He made all his screen casts summer 2020 and refuses to update anything because he "has hundreds of hours" invested in the videos. All I did was memorize things for his quizes.
JUST DON'T TAKE HIM.
Do not take this professor at all, his recordings is so simple and he says what you need to know for a test and if he doesn't mention it, it won't be the test!! A BIG FAT LIE!! he will out stuff on the test he didn't go over or give a very in depth in question, when he didn't go in depth himself. Be prepared to have to teach yourself!! DON'T DO IT
He is not professor who teaches well, at this point I believed they gave out biology degrees to anyone back in the day!
Dr. O'Connell is a fantastic teacher; in fact, I took him for both A&P I and A&P 2. These classes are difficult, of course, but he goes the extra mile to make sure you understand the material. His lectures are great and he's always ready to help during office hours. And I actually looked forward to class, he's really funny and makes the class fun.
I originally gave him a not so great review that I tried removing but can't. It is the end of the semester & I have an A+ overall. It was hard to adapt & learn the way he teaches but it really is straight forward. Quiz every week over each lesson and then every 3 chapters you have an exam. He gives you everything you need to succeed. No home work!
I only have the best things to say about this guy! He is hilarious. His lectures were easy to watch, though he did go off a couple times on random stories but it was more funny than anything. He is the best professor I have had at TCC. Very responsive and eager to see you succeed. He gives you all the tools you just have to know how YOU learn. :)
First thing first: O'Connell is strictly my lab professor for 2402 & it is the middle of the semester, thus I don't have a final grade. Right now, I stand with a high A. He is funny & quirky & makes this lab online do-able & the material is very clear. I wish I'd have had him for 2401. I wish I could have him for lecture, too. Take his courses!
Amazing lab professor!
Funny guy but..I am a 4.0 student so I am not lazy & I know how to study & I like to learn. His powerpoints suck with little info, says what will be on the test, then bamboozles you with test questions that go much more in depth. Essentially expect to read the whole book for lecture in order to pass exams & don't go off of his words & power points.
Phenomenal teacher does his best to educate his students and provide them with the keys to succeed. He provides you with lecture videos that you can watch if you choose not to come to class but don't take these lightly the videos are filled with information that will most likely be on your test. If you are a good student you shouldnt worry
To be successful in this class you need to convert his power points to a word document and fill in with your own notes and side info from class. Everything comes straight from his pwrpnts. Lab print out all the model photos and labelings with sample questions. Great professor very straight forward to the point curves exams that can boost your grade
Honestly super easy A. He makes his expectations clear and isnt harsh at all. He is very lenient and doesnt expect you to go into crazy detail about most things. He has lots of resources on his Canvas and putting in some effort will get you to an A. He really made me fall in love with learning again after a slump due to online learning. Take him!
Took him with high hopes from all of the positive reviews, should have listened to the negatives. Majority of time is studying his videos since in Lecture/Lab he's very sporadic. He won't give any study guides or extra assignments besides quizzes and tests. he almost didn't let our class retake a quiz because of a snow day.Everyone is afraid of him.
This class was memorizing for the quizzes. Compared to my other anatomy class with a different professor, I couldn't tell you much that i learned from this one.
Please do not take him if you want to pass this class!! Have no study guide for exam or anything quizzes every week and the SI session won't help you! DO NOT TAKE!
Dr. Oconnell is a great teacher. His class involves 10 quizzes and 5 exams including the final. Everything that is on his powerpoint will be the same thing on the quiz and tests. If you need to review, just go back and look at his videos. This class will involve a lot of studying. If you want an A in anatomy, choose him.
Dr. O'Connell - Or as I like to call him, DJ Dan. He was a funny guy that told face-palm jokes, but overall really knowledgable. Be sure to take elaborate notes, show up, and participate - he enjoys students that are involved. Loved being part of his class!
There were no study guides provided for the tests which made it extremely stressful. Everything was fair game. You had to remember every little detail JUST in case it were to appear. Funny lectures but had study guides bee provided, I would have made a far better grade.
He is really one of the best professors I've ever had. Everything he says is exactly what to expect ( No surprise information ) Straightforward with his quiz and test questions. If you study the power points and the flashcards provided by the SI, you will pass.
I personally did not enjoy the way the class was taught. He did keep the lectures interesting but It also felt like a waste of time from all the interruptions from students. I found studying stressful as AP covers such a large amount of information, it would have been nice to have a study guide. He`s a good teacher just not for me.
long power point presentations attend EVERY class to see what he greys out so that you don't study unnecessary. lecture are used in tests so pay very close attention, especially when he starts writing things on the board. short answers and fill in the blanks on tests. grades on curve as well and drops a few low tests/quizzes.
His personality is great, and it helps to offset the difficulty of the course. He is very easy to communicate with and incredibly knowledgeable, so make sure to ask questions. You have to be dedicated to retaining the information because there is only quizzes/tests, and attendance is crucial. Missing a lecture or lab can really set you back.
Dr. O'Connell rocks. He's funny and his classroom really becomes a community. This is a hard course. You have to be willing to put in the labor. Just the nature of A&P. Dr. O'Connell puts in the effort to learn your name and to know you as a student and he's funny. The slides are a framework. You have to flesh them out. True for most A&P courses.
A&P 2 is a hard class but I think that Dr. O'Connell did his best to make it as easy as possible. Try not to miss lectures or labs because he sometimes adds or omits information. In lab your grades will come from weekly quizzes, the midterm, and a final. In lecture, your grades will come from weekly chapter quizzes, exams, and the final.
Very witty and likes to joke with students but overall an amazing professor and teaches in a way that's easy to understand.
The ratings that say things like "you have to show up to class" and "he doesn't have a study guide" are so DUMB. Please make sure to study the slides he uses, that is the key to success. He is an amazing professor. He uses real life analogies to describe what we are learning and cares about the success of his students. I would 100% take him again.
I loved having him as my A&P 2 professor. He made learning about the human body fun and made real-life analogies to what was taught in class. Read through the slides that he covers in class, study them, make flashcards, and you'll be golden. He drops 2-3 quizzes, and you can replace a bad test grade with the grade of your final exam.
A&PII is a challenging course, no matter what professor you take. However, Dr. Oconnell strives to help his students understand complex concepts. In my experience, he was always available and responded quickly to emails. He offers a ton of extra credit on every single exam and strives to help his students in any way he can. Awesome professor! :)
He was a very good professor. He has online screencasts that are great bc it is hard for me to pay attention 24/7 in class.I took this as a summer course so it was a lot of work. I put in about 25 + hours of studying a week.. if you take it during a normal semester I think it is much more realistic especially if you are working. Go to class!
Dr. O'Connell makes A&P II manageable with his engaging lectures and helpful resources. While the course is challenging, using the slides, flashcards, and Unstuck AI for study prep can go a long way. Attend class, stay engaged, and you'll learn a lot.
“He is a very nice professor. He gives tests every week, so be prepared. If you attend all his classes and review the slides, you will get a good grade.”
I LOVE Dr. Dan!! He is without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had! He made A&PII a breeze. His lectures are long, but he is a very entertaining lecturer.. so he keeps it interesting and keeps you engaged! Also, if you have questions, he is very willing and happy to explain it to you if you need it. TAKE HIS CLASS RIGHT NOW!
His lectures were pretty easy to follow and he made them entertaining. I personally didn't use a book,
I wish he taught A&P 2. He was amazing and his lectures were easy to follow. He really does care about his students and gives great feedback.
its giving 'just here for the check'. Grade is based on exams +quizzes. no homework. snippy when you ask questions in lecture. posts powerpoints for you to access ahead of time, but all other resources he outsources to the SI instructor or you have to find them. gives good lectures but thats about it. grades exams 1week after
Pretty good. Put in the work and you'll definitely pass. Weekly quizzes and exam has open ended questions + multiple choice. If you go to class and listen and study it's an easy A but you do need to put in enough time outside of class. Ngl I hated the lab exam format, I feel like there's a better way. 100 questions open ended using a clipboard
You're graded on such few things- just quizzes and exams. No homework- which means you have to know your stuff good. Lectures are long- he has a funny personality but it's hard to pay attention. Extra Credit was about 5 questions on an exam and it was test questions.
A&P classes are always hard but Professor O'connell provides students with A LOT of resources to look back on and study. You just got to study!!! Ask questions, he is always happy to answer any questions. Lots of quizzes but that's what helped and motivated me most to study rather than one test once in a while. He wants us to succeed.
LOVE Professor O'Connell! He truly made A&P 2 enjoyable. He wants you to succeed. Tons of lab/lecture powerpoints & videos always readily available. Almost always extra credit on tests. His SI instructor, Shauna, was also amazing. You HAVE to set aside time to study & make sure you really understand the material. My favorite class this semester!
