If anyone had any problems with his 101 class it's because they didn't read the assigned texts AT ALL or decided they were too smart to attend any of the classes. He most funny and seems like an overall nice man.

Nice guy. He's funny sometimes (he tries, which is funny) and hes very clear in his lectures. Outline for the lecture is posted online. Text must be read. The questions on the test are specific, but he drops the lowest exam grade. Topics may bore you...

Psych 101 is a big class, and I bet it's tough to teach. Most of the students who take it suck. Ogilvie is incredible at dealing with people who suck, and he is intelligent and funny. I didn't read everything, but I got an A, because he gives good lecture

i am in his section (co-taught by leonard hamilton) and i look forward to when hamilton lectures (even though he makes me fall asleep) ogilvie is SO annoying, he thinks hes strict and funny but he isnt. hes very bitter and condescending, unhelpful too

He is a really interesting guy and funny. His lectures are interesting, and the tests are really easy. You could get an A without opening the book. It all comes from his lectures and he tells you whats important in his lecture.

Generally very boring. Tests on minor details....his book, Fantasies of Flight, is way beyond the scope of the course, it should be omitted from the curriculum. Personally I think he has fantasies of flying with len hamilton. haha

I thought he was awesome. The truth is, only arrogant idiots will hate this guy. He has a problem with sleepy students, and he then embarrasses them, which is awesome because it is hilarious to watch lazy frat dudes squirm. Interesting/Funny man.

ogilvie was awful...and im not an arrogant idiot, i happen to be a 4.0 student and i really hated ogilvie he was so so bitter and you really had to put an insane amnt. of time into studying for his tests.

Never enjoyed an 810 class on another campus more than this one. I have learned a great deal from his lectures, extremely intelligent man. Almost didnt take his class b/c of peoples nasty ratings of him, and I am SOO happy I decided to ignore the ignorant comments. Ogilv's is great!

Such a pompous ****. Thinks he's better than everyone. Very sarcastic and rude. Makes ridiculous comments in class that are both stupid and offensive. Whoever this other personality student is, is a dork. ogilvie is a hard earned C, take that as it is.

Not easy, but he tries to help you out. Gave 2 Extra Cred assignments and dropped the lowest grade out of the first 2 exams. His book (which of course he assigns) deviates from conventional psychology which was actually refreshing and intersting. If you fall asleep in class, you will be sorry.

No matter what anyone has to say, I think he's awesome. The only thing that sucks though is the fact that it's an 8:10, but even then, he keeps you wide awake with his sense of humor and his willingness to teach. He also assigns you extra credit which helps out a lot. He's cool!

Very good teacher. Lectures are interesting. Lecture outlines are very helpful for exams. He usually repeats whats important! He posts lecture notes online and also sample exams. Very sincere and funny. Don't fall asleep in his class because he will wake you up!

Awesome teacher. A bit bitter and sarcastic but that's what makes his lectures and explanations interesting. Go to class, take notes, and review the practice exams online and it's an easy A. Extra credit also helps a lot. Co-taught with Hamilton, but Ogilvie was the better lecturer of the two.

He is an asam teacher to the max. He can really analyze dreams in the mix. He will call you out for sleeping in class to the max. Get Dunkin Donuts before class in the end. You will totally rock out to his awesome class. Beeya.

very good teacher and a very interesting course. NOt difficult at all. His book isn't easy reading at first, but it gets very very good by the end. Either way, that's only like 10 percent of your grade. The first 2 exams are easy as hell. Come to class and you'll be fine.

Cool as hell teacher, good sense of humor. Gives a lot of really easy extra credit. Exams aren't that hard, just do the reading and you'll be fine. Overall a good guy, highly recommended.

Ogilvie is a good prof. extra cred it really easy and will boost your average by 25 points if you do all of it. Semi-interesting lectures, but the subject focuses alot on the names of psychologists. I would recomend him.

Fun prof, easily distracted but gets back on topic promptly, a bit pessimistic. Assigned books were reader-friendly. Tests were a bit difficult for me tho I studied (C/B- before curve). Attendance opt. Will single you out if you are in class sleeping, talking, or leaving early, tho. Interesting topics, would recommend.

This class was really fun. Ogilvie was funny as hell and the exams were easy if you read the book and went to class. The extra credit projects were easy points that could boost your grade. I would definitely recommend this class and professor.

Must read the book..if your like me and hate reading books writen by the professor then dont bother with this class..i didnt do any of the reading and got a B so i guess if you want an A read..everything else is off of his slides..extra credit helps too ...

Although the exams can be challenging, he does a great job teaching and making us understand. I find it especially funny how he singles out students sleeping or talking, which I like. Although he might seem mean for doing that, it's definitely better than letting the students disrupt others when they're trying to listen. Very comprehensible!

He co-taught Psych 101 with Hamilton. Easy, fairly interesting class. You have to take notes and read, but the exams aren't so bad. Bonus points for going to class. Ogilvie's a funny guy... kind of rambles sometimes and yells at people that talk, but overall I would definitely recommend taking this for general psych.

Do the extra credit. The exams are pretty hard, but if you read and go to class, you can pull off an A without the extra credit, but i wish i had done it and made it easier for myself. He's a funny nice old guy, and the class is pretty interesting stuff. his book on peter pan and flight fantasies was really cool.

His book is AWESOME. I have to say it's the only "textbook" I have ever really liked. He gives a ton of extra credit - DO THEM. They seriously increase your grade. Do go to class, do print out the notes, and do not fall asleep. He will wake you up! Overall, a great class, the only bad thing is that it's so damn early!!

Ogilvie is hilarious and he and Hamilton are a great teaching pair. Ogilvie's lectures are more like summaries of the readings, so it's nice to have the reinforcement of what you've read. He's very blunt and has an eccentric personality, but I think everyone will agree that he's an enjoyable character all around.

It's a good class, you can def get an A. Too early, but it's doable. I recommend taking it with abnormal at the same time - Lots of the stuff goes together. Readings are great. Exams can be a tad tricky, but you just gotta study and read. He offers tons of E.C. - DO THEM!!! b.c they definitely help your grade

Ogilive is cool. His class is extremely early but he wakes you up with his carzy jokes and stories. You have to work hard to get the grade you want, but it's worth it. I would take him again.

Great teacher. Good anecdotes. Very smart and upbeat. If this class was later in the day it would have my full attention but its very early. Exams are fair and based on notes. Go to class and don't fall asleep or let your phone ring, he will embarrass you!

very hard class. take atwood. i'm regretting taking this guy instead of atwood. you need to know the books by detail in order to do well. there is no curve so basically you have to do the ec in order to get a bit of a curve. great guy, but not a good prof. seriously avoid!!

The extra credit plus 4 points at the end made no difference in my grade on a 250 point scale. This guy needs to lighten up on the exams. You need to put in 6 credits of work to get a good grade. I cannot advise on taking this guy.

There is no reason to make the course this hard. Someone needs to tell him this is an undergrad course. Don't take this class. I should have taken a W after the first test. The amount of work compromised my other classes.

I will not take him again. There is a max of 15 EC points on a 250 point scale. The final was not as hard as the first two exams. If you got a good grade you put in a tremendous amount of time. It almost seems like he changed the course this year.

A perfect score on the EC (5 papers) may not make a difference in your grade on a 250 point scale. He tests on material in the book that was never lectured on in class. The "average" student was not likely happy with the grade.

He's a pretty good professor and very interesting. Unfortunately, you had to actually go to class (the horror). Oh, and you had to actually study your notes and the reading (*gasp*). But really, if you stayed awake in class and skimmed the reading, it's an easy A.

Excellent lectures... he really is entertaining! He wants to help students and has TA's that offer office hours to go over exams and hold review sessions and the end of term. Exams require you to think about the material you've learned, however, they are easy if you go to class and take notes on the slides you can print out. Def take this class!

Tests he gave were hard, but a lot of the questions I got wrong were because it was stuff he talked about in class that I didn't write down, and the papers they hand out at the beginning of class are extra credit points, so go to class, but reading the book is essential as well

i took him during the summer and had a pretty good time. he was a funny guy, had me interested and actually kept my attention. exams and quizzes were mostly on his notes and some stuff on the book. you have to take good notes in his clas in order to do well. in all, hes a good professor and i loved his class

Nice guy and knows his stuff but goes way too fast with his powerpoints. He's a bit stubborn but funny at times (and lecture is even better when Hamilton is teaching with him). He's obsessed with Freud. He likes yelling at people who leave in the middle of class. 2 exams and a final mostly out of textbook. Notes are posted online.

Everyone knows Prof. Ogilvie is awesome. But with meandering lectures, and only two exams and a final, plus extra credit, for grades, it can be hard to get an A in. But if you have a serious interest in the subject, you need to take his class.

i took this class twice.i got an D the first time b/c i never went to lecture.2nd time around, i got an A and only missed 2 lectures.don't even bother buying the book.lecture really is mandatory if you want to get an A. even though it's really early in the morning,he'll keep you up.those who complained about their grade, never went to class

although he gives a lot of extra credit this class is NOT easy. reading the chapters and taking notes in class is vital and reguardless the previous comments.. he is NOT funny AT ALL. cute old man but please its not like anyone would enjoy being there. exams are pretty tricky. got 2 Cs so far and avg was pretty low. id recomend taking someone else!

Very funny old guy, he's very random in his humor..he does care about the students and wants them to learn..you need to study, though, because it's not a piece of cake class, but it's manageable, plus there's TONS of extra credit! I have an A so far because of all the extra credit!

It is very difficult not to like him. He keeps things interesting even though the material may not be at times. He is a little bit loony, which is a big reason I always go class. Rutgers needs more like him. You have to work for a good grade, but it is worth the effort.

Its a shame this class is only offered at 8:40 in the morning. The material is interesting, and Ogilvie is one of the best psych teachers at RU. If you take notes, you will do well on the tests which are very easy. Doing the extra credits is a good idea too.

To do well: attend ALL lectures (Note: sit in the front of the class), record them on an IC Digital recorder, take notes, and then study from them. X-tra cr assign.: optional. I received an 'A' in this class w/o doing any extra credit. There's only 1 midterm and 1 final, and they both heavily test you on LECTURE material. Textbook = reinforcer

Horrible professor. Makes vulgar comments and rants about irrelevant topics. Makes the material very boring. Go to class though because his powerpoints are only outlines and there is much from the book he leaves out.

I had the pleasure of being Dr. Ogilvie's student at RU back in 1983-84. I feel compelled to retroactively rate him now, since we did not have this forum then. He's brilliant, witty-the best of the best-remarkable, genuinely warm & caring professor. With a daughter currently attending RU, I would highly recommend him!

He is amazing... His class was at 8:40 in the morning my senior year at RU and I only missed one class.. I am currently in graduate school and I still think about Ogilvie and his class.. amazing professor.. Honored to be in his class... Do the readings you will get an A

Had Prof. Ogilvie for Soul Beliefs. Absolutely amazing. He had such entertaining lectures and I never missed a class. Very funny and straightforward professor. The best I've had at Rutgers. I'd recommend him to anyone. Wonderful guy, and I LOVED his class.

Had him for Soul Beliefs. The class is really easy and he makes it so interesting. He's a very funny guy (as long as you don't take his words to heart). The only problem I had was that he doesn't really answer questions that kids in class ask. I feel like he doesn't know the answer so he just says a joke and moves on.

hes a cool guy, but for soul beliefs his lectures are really boring, some students started leaving during the lectures. the exams are so stupid, they require you to remember every detail he says from lecture which isnt possible, some of the questions dont have anything to do with the class material. the study guide is a joke!!!!!

Do not take him if you are the least bit religious.He is a staunch atheist and devotes the entirety of the course to attacking religion with science. In a class called "Soul BELIEFS" I was very much deceived by what ended up being a religion roast.
