great teacher, clear, funny, understandable, and adorable in his own way
I love him! He's so friendly and approachable. Makes lectures delightful cuase he's so adorable.
The most adorable professor I've ever had. He's funny and extremely clear. Straightforward about what he expects you to know for the tests.
He is such a cute, likeable and sweet guy. LOVES ochem and makes you like it too! Really helpful and clear explaining the concepts of the lab.
terrific prof. clear, enthusiastic, helpful, very caring about his students.
Fabulous teacher, broad command of subject, the best lab teacher and possibly O-chem teacher of all. Highest possible recommendation.

great guy, very dedicated, should be paid way more than he is

very enthusiastic and upbeat professor. he commands a high understanding of organic chemistry and manages to keep lecture/lab interesting. highly recommended!
He was an awesome, enthusiastic, cheerful guy, as well as very knowledgeable on organic chemistry. Thoroughly enjoyed the class.
this man rocks
Excellent!!This world would be a better place if more people enjoyed their jobs as much as he does.
Professors do not get better than this! Possibly the best professor at UCSC. He actually makes Ochem interesting and fun! Too bad he can't teacher Chem 108A and B as well. Get to know him...professors just don't get any nicer or more helpful than this
Such a great professor. We need more like him. He is so clear and caring about his students, it's amazing. He is an overall awesome guy.
Palleros is amazing! His lectures are interesting if you don't get offtrack. He cracks jokes all the time and goes through everything very slow so you understand. He visits the labs frequently, try to go to his office hours!
He was one of the best prof's I've ever had. Very organized, easy to understand, patient, enthusiastic. Tests were easy, I got A's in both labs with minimal effort. I wish I'd had him for Chem 108A/B too.
Extremely helpful and clear. I wish I had him for my regular organic chemistry class instead of just labs.
he is a very good lab professor, and is pretty easy. lectures are usually boring, but i think all o chem lab lectures would be.
he's a great lecturer, very helpful and easy going!his labs are very fun and exams are very fair and super easy! I highly recommend him. he is so nice!
Very cool guy. He makes organic chemistry easy to learn by using examples. He has a cool accent. :)
A very good lab lecturer. Lectures are easy to understand and follow. Lab manual very well written too---guides you step-by-step. Very friendly and lab reports are managable, unlike gen. chem labs. Wished he taught Chem 108A/B during the year.
i dont know what the big fuss is about??? everyone seemed to love this guy. i thought his lectures were ridiculously boring!! and he was not funny at all!!! his tests were easy though but this was a drag!
Everyone I talked to said I was lucky to get him this summer and so far I agree! Very clear and willing to answer any questions. Concerned with student understanding. He's a great prof.
Palleros has the extraordinary talent of making a complex class like Orgo Chem understandable. Even in the summer, where classes are notoriously too fast, he was extremely helpful in his lectures.
Palleros can take any difficult subject and break it down so that it's understandable. I loved his lectures because I feel like I really know them. A lot of the experience comes from the TA though. Yoni's ridiculous. Enough said.
Palleros is awsome.. that is all I can say. He is the best professor I have had at UCSC. I learned alot in his class. He is the BEST.
Great Teacher. Very clear. Loves what and who he teaches.
very good lecturer. nice accent too. take notes during lecture cuz they are good notes. make sure the lab reports are done right. this class was easier than chem 1M and chem 1N. review a litlle before the final and you will do great.
Everybody loves this guy! Everything he writes down is important, he does what is important in a lab not stupid stuff and he makes the labs pretty fun. Easy if you try just a little and a great guy to listen to. He's coo
Palleros is awesome! He is a great professor. Very clear. He really loves what his is teaching and shows so much concern with his students! Makes material easy and only goes over things that we actually need to know. One of the best professors I have had at UCSC.
He is very clear in lecture and if you take notes they are very usefull. his final review is awesome and his practice test is almost the same as the final. the labs are ok but make sure your TA is good or else you will do crappy on all your labs
Palleros is The BEST professor @ UCSC. Awesome!!!
he is very clear and he wants everyone to learn the material. And you actually learn ALOT in his class. His organization is excellent and he cares about students very much. Very Helpful! Great Class!
Palleros is Wonderful! He's extremely organized, well mannered, loves his students, o-chem lab, & teaching! His lectures are great, extremely helpful & he's 100% available in office hours! If not the best prof at UCSC then he's pretty damn close! :)
Best ochem lab professor ever....................period. one of the nicest professors youll ever meet.
AMAZING teacher!! He's by far the best professor I've had. The class is extremely challenging, it requires much effort, but if you put in the time you will succeed in his class; his tests are fair. He did an excellent job keeping me interested in the subject of Ochem! :>
SUPER-DUPER AWESOME...he'll never make you regret taking the class..though the subject is actually tough, he make it fun and much easier..i adore him sooo much..
Palleros is the best teacher ever. He makes O chem fun, less challenging, and his enthusiasm makes the subject interesting. He actually cares about his students unlike most chemistry professors. I advise those of you who will take his lecture next summer to go to his office hours because you will learn a whole lot!
dr. palleros FINALLY made chemistry an ok experience (let's put it this way, chem and i are NOT friends), and that was with ochem over the summer, too! that's pretty amazing, on his part.

love this guy! he's such a cute little man and i love his accent. did i mention he's a kickass professor too??? he has so much energy and makes his lectures so clear. the lectures are very organized and that helps a lot. even when i had to take o-chem in the summer when the material is much more compressed i still had fun learning this stuff.
He is such a wonderful prof!! HE really, really cares about his students and really wants to help them learn. He is very clear and is such a nice guy!
I know I'm just repeating what everyone has said, but it's all true. Daniel is amazing, I feel so confident in this class because he obviously believes his students can do well. I wish he taught the 112A-C lectures too.
Nothing else to say... he is FABULOUS. Best Chemistry lecturer on campus!!
i got an A- in his lab; very easy class. 70% is lab and 30% final ( u have to pass final). i wish i took ochem 108 over summer b/c he teaches it. even if it would be 10wk course for a 2 qtr subject, he is extremely clear, helpful, happy. he wont just give u the answer but makes you think about it. best teacher ever!!
Mr. Palleros is an awesome teacher!! You have to attend his lectures to get the most out of this class. I've never learned this much from a Chem lab before. He makes everything so understandable and he's fun to listen to during lecture. I have to stress that completing the lab reports is so important for this class and it makes the final easy.
VERY fun professor. By far my favorite teacher I have had in my 3 years at UCSC. Very easy to understand. I wish he would teach all Ochem classes instead of having other teachers, (like Vrelink =(). I would try and get him again as a teacher.
His class is the one class I would actually look foward to attending. No midterms, just a final that's easy if you don't slack off. He teaches better than any Professor I have ever had. But you can't miss class. He should be the department chair.
Daniel is fantastic. I would recommend to anyone who is willing to study, and really dive into Ochem to take it over the summer with Daniel. He's hard, and the class is super fast, but he is so much better then any other Ochem teacher we have that its worth all the hard work. It has made 108B easier for me.
He was a great and caring professor. He was very helpful and he try to bring models into lecture to show us how the molecules form and interact. I recommend taking o-chem in the summer with Palleros. Very helping teacher.
AWESOME! He genuinely cares about how students are doing in class b/c he gets very irritated when people dont come to lecture and very happy when they do come. He's excellent at explaining concepts and very engaging with a great sense of humour. Final is easy if you did your own work throughout the quarter. Highly recommended Cant wait to take 108L
yay for daniel palleros!! such a clear explainer of organic chemistry.. we had a lab lecture right before our 2nd midterm in regular lecture.. and he clarified SN1/SN2/E1/E2 reactions while explaining the experiment. must pass final, but its not bad at all.. it all depends on your TA.. mines was great.
he loves you if you've made it this far. a little slow lecturing sometimes and 8am sucks, but he cares about his students. the finals are a piece of cake if you've done the labs. very nice too
Best ever. He's so good at explaning ochem(reactions, mechanisms, and such)... he should be teaching Chem 108B as well (not Crews). But, he's more like a head supervisor; the TA is the point-person for the class. They evaluate your work and grade everything; I loved mines. Must pass final (but it's easy if you do your own stuff). goodbye chem!!!
The most amazing professor at UCSC. Palleros is the sweetest guy in the world and his lectures are awesome. Although I never really enjoyed doing lab work if you look through lecture notes and the book the lab write-ups aren't hard and you can actually understand the material. I miss having him as a professor.
Palleros is an amazing professor. His class isn't easy because there is no work, it is easy because he gives such good lectures you can actually understand everything about the labs and do them! Nicest, most personable teacher I have had so far, I so wish I could take another course with him.
Easy lab reports, easy final, experiments aren't too bad, lecture is very clear and proper, and he's kinda cute.
so nice!!
Captivating lectures. Great humor. Really sweet accent. Lab write-ups are pretty easy and not a bunch of busy work like in gen chem. Very genuine about helping his students understand the material.
I want Palleros to be my grandpa and tell me stories - but I'll settle for him being a good teacher with entertaining lectures
great! very funny and kept the class interesting
Professor Palleros has an incredible amount of experience in teaching and makes going to lecture very worthwhile. He is capable of simplifying complicated concepts, and is thus a tremendous help in learning the material. His exams are challenging, as he expects his students to have a good grasp of the material.
Excellent teacher! Clear and helps you on prelab if you attend lectures.
so nice, funny, and helpful. extremely helpful to attend lectures because it helps you out on the prelab questions. and NO LAB REPORTS. big plus. the final was easy too. straight from practice questions but with different numbers.
As a teacher, this guy is great. Outside of class, he comes across as very unhappy, as if something tragic has scarred him for life. And he can be a bit snobby on a bad day, but I enjoyed his class.
Took him for both 108 labs. He is always willing to help, students are his top priority unlike other professors. Lectures are interesting (GO! gives answers to lab[?] ). No midterms, only 1 final-do the practice final, look over experiments+concepts and you'll do fine. Got A+ in both. I thought it was easy but still, you need to give it your all.
One of the BEST professors you will ever have. He is the cutest little old man you will ever meet. Really funny and entertaining during lecture. He tells you the answers to the prelabs during lecture... so go to them!
Good professor x lectures, and tests were fair. However, 108C is a 3 unit class and he makes us work/learn as if it were at least 5 credits. I took 3 other science courses that quarter and had less work and got better grades in all of those classes. Also, he is not approachable! In his office hours, he was quite rude; very different as in class.
I took 108A/L and 108B/M over the summer with him and it was the greatest experience of my life. Ten weeks of nothing but ochem was tough but with an amazing professor like Palleors it was an enjoyable experience. Definitely take as much ochem from him as you can he is the best! He is the best lecturer ever, I was never confused during lecture!
Never taking that again. I have had third grade teachers inspire me more than that man has. Hell, a drive-thru attendee has inspired me more in 1 minute than Palleros did in a few quarters. He is the sole reason I dropped Biochem and joined electrical engineering. He will kill all the love you possibly have for chemistry. Stay away from this devil
lectures cleared up several misunderstood topics. I am senior chem major at another university. by far the most clear chem teacher I have encountered. I went to him with questions and he helped me.
Take him, he's awesome.
LOVE HIM!!
Palleros is one of the best professors I've had at UCSC, I only wish that he had taught 108A this quarter. He is very enthusiastic, extremely intelligent, and very kind. He understands that his students are still learning, which is a quality many other chem professors lack. Take him, you will love o-chem by the end. No curve if the class does well.
i took chem 108A/L, B/M, & C, with professor palleros. He is absolutely my favorite professor at UCSC. although he may seem rude in office hours, he really cares about his students and is willing to help you learn the material. he designs his classes perfectly so that you will know ochem at the level that professional schools expect you to (MCAT)
Great professor but this class will kill you over the summer; I go to Davis so I'm used to hard classes but nothing could prepare me for five straight weeks of o chem. You will dream about alkenes. It's way too fast over the summer; take it during the school year. Seriously. This class is insane.
Palleros is an awesome professor. I took him for both quarters of ochem with lab this past summer. You are probably just like me reading this deciding if you can handle it over the summer. Just do it, it will rock your world and kick your butt, but it is so worth it in the long run, and no better teacher than Palleros. Trust me, you have to earn it
He's so nice. He is passionate about Organic Chemistry and you can tell. Great teacher.
A funny and excellent lecturer :)
An amazing and funny lecturer :) Explains concepts extremely well and clearly in a short period of time.
Great lecturer. Really funny, prelab answers are mostly given in lecture. Actual lab times are long. Shortest lab I believe is 2 hours. Longest, all 4 hours. You gotta be fast and good in the lab to get out fast. Final is just like the practice exam.
Made organic chemistry extremely fun. In lecture, he gives you all the answers for the prelabs, and there will be a quiz for bonus points every lecture where he literally gives you the answers to. I love Palleros and wished he was a Professor instead of a lecturer.. I would love to be in a research group led by him. Best instructor in all of UCSC!
He is a really awesome professor. He knows how to entertain his students and keep his students interested in the subject while applying the concepts to biology very well. His homework, notes, and practice exams are the best way to understand the concepts even deeper. Go to section and office hours as a resource to further understand the class. FUN!
Took this during the summer and it was the toughest academic experience of my life. I LOVED having Palleros as a teacher. I usually never get chemistry and the way he taught made me understand. Now I love O-chem!! During the summer it does take a lot of time. Don't take it if you aren't willing to spend most weekdays in the library all day.
Probably the greatest organic chemistry professor in the world. Very clear, very fair exams, and just makes going to class a pleasure. If you participate in his class he'll take a liking to you and even know your name! A wonderful professor, and a wonderful human being. He made spending my summer at UCSC worth every penny. However, you MUST study everyday. If you fall behind, you're as good as dead. I took both 108a and b in the summer and aced them both. If you apply yourself, you can too!
One of the finest instructors on campus. His organization and structure of the class are crystal. The key to this class is review the materials regularly since you will definitely feel overwhelmed before exams if you are behind. His notes are wonderful. Exams are similar to the practice ones, pay attention to details.
Absolutely the best professor I have ever had. He is amazingly clear and organized during his lectures, he has a sense of humor. And he does not try to trick you on the test. His class alone persuaded me to transfer to UCSC instead of UCSB! He is just that great of a teacher!
Best professor ever!!!!!!!!!!!! super nice, friendly, detail oriented, patient. omgosh. he is super great. best ochem teacher in ucsc.
Materials are crystal clear. Make sure to take good notes and learn the materials on a daily basis as you progress through the quarter (cramming at the end wont help you much). Apply yourself and you will do great!
Holy Snap! i took this class and the Lab over the summer and it was brutal. The amount of work that you have to do to stay on top of things is a lot but god damn he's an AMAZING professor. AMAZING!!! Will do anything to help you and is crystal clear. You will NOT FIND a better professor. Only problem with taking it over the summer is that its fast.
his tests are fair but hardly any curve. 2 midterms and 1 final. I scored average on the first, bellow average on the 2nd and average on the final but received a D. I went to office hours and it's one on one, not as a group. He was hostile, which is odd because he comes off very friendly/jokey in lecture. he's nice and organized in class. no curve
I completely disagree with the person below me. Palleros is a great professor. Im also wondering how he or she knows what they got on the final if we haven't gotten it back yet. Anyway, I found him to be very straight forward. His practice exams are good representations of his real tests. His office hours are packed, because he teaches 3 classes.
He doesn't really curve. This class was tough because there were a lot of memorization. He was kind of clear during lecture, but he doesn't tell you in detailed on what is going to be on the exam. You pretty much have to memorize all of the stuff from his lectures.
A cute professor who is willing to answer your questions. His final was actually pretty easy. Make sure to take a look at the practice exams to know what the final would look like. Lab report grades differ from your TAs.
Palleros is funny and interesting and his lectures are clear/ easy to follow and his tests are incredibly fair. This is not to say this course is easy though: O CHEM IS VERY DIFFICULT!!! But Palleros makes it bearable. Biggest tip is to do your homeworks thoroughly and understand them- dont just copy from the manual!
One of my favorite teachers ever. He's funny and clear, and and sincerely cares about his students and how they do. The reason I am taking 109 now is because he is teaching it, also its interesting, but mostly cuz Palleros.
Palleros is awesome! His notes are very detailed, and what is on his notes is what is on the test. He's very helpful in office hours, and wants to see his students succeed. His tests are similar to the practice ones, but of course you need to also study your notes. I highly recommend Ochem with Palleros!
Palleros is awesome when lecturing, and is very clear and concise with his notes. He even adds in a little bit of humor which lightens the mood- especially in a tough course like OChem. However, he is completely unapproachable in office hours which really surprised me. Was hostile, rude, and seemed to be irritated. Did not seem willing to help.
I really enjoyed his course and I have only good things to say about him. The man can teach! His tests are somewhat difficult, but very fair and straightforward if you pay attention in class and get help if you don't understand something. Like all good things in life, you will have to work for it, but he prepares you to think like a scientist.
Really clear lectures that are very helpful for the lab. If you go to class, you will be fine. The textbook (he wrote!) is very helpful as well for the prelabs. This is a challenging course, but he is so clear and helpful. If you go to office hours he will help you understand whatever you need help with.
