I took professor powells Honors class for writing non-fiction prose. he is a great teacher! we debated many subjects in every class, and wrote a paper almost every week on critical responses to a documentary or movie we watched. if you take the honors class be prepared to do some good writing, and be clear in all of your essays. tough but worth it!

Proff Powell is an amazing teacher. I actually enjoyed going to his class and participating in the discussions. I hated Comp 1 with another teacher and was not looking forward to Comp 2. From the first day of class made writing exciting. He didn't focus on the rules of grammar, instead he taught us how to form a persuasive argument. Great teacher!!

Professor Powell is an incredible teacher. He has conversations about current events and manages to incorporate them into our work. He has assignments about political and environmental issues that are controversial and sparks debates in class as well as on paper. He is undoubtedly the greatest English teacher I've ever had.

Mr. Powell is smart, fun, lively, and enthusiastic. He lives and breathes his profession. It was my first college experience and his class removed all doubts for my future. It doesn't hurt that he's cute either.

Really easy. Very long-winded and kind of comfusing unless you ask him to make it very clear. There are 4 take home tests and one gets dropped. He is extremely smart, not arrogant, but his intelligence kind of makes him get carried away. Goes off on tangents, but DO NOT let that dissuade you from taking his class!!

excuse that last comment - that was for another class. This class is fun but he is really loves the sound of his voice. Likes class discussion but really doesnt let anyone else talk. There is a pretty decent sized paper due at the end of term - gives you time though. Take this class.

Good Teacher..

Mr. Powell was one of the best professors I have had! I took him for LIT 2000 and english comp. He is really nice and always willing to help. There are like 2 tests and the papers are all easy topics. He will grade your rough draft so there is no way to get a bad grade! TAKE HIM!

i got a B! its so sad... not an easy class for composition. he is very strict on grammar! TOO MANY WORK!

I think it is funny when people complain about an English teacher holding them to the rules of English. I for one am glad that there are still teachers like Professor Powell holding students to some sort of standard, lest we end up in a real-life Idiocracy.

Daniel is an amazing teacher! He's very helpful and his classes are fun. He responds to emails very quickly and is very eager to help. He gave me a new passion for reading. The only problem is sometimes he says things that are over your head. He's so well read that his vocab is large and I don't understand everything he's saying all the time.

Really nice Professor. Not an easy A. You do need to be a decent writer, or you may struggle in this class. Professor Powell will give you feed back on your papers and is willing to take time to help you out if you need it.

I took his 1101 in class and now i am in 1102 online course. He is a great teacher and very helpful. When I was in the classroom for his 1101, it was a great learning experience. The papers he would hand back to us with responses, and if you needed any extra help you could talk and ask him about it. he also will work with your schedule.

mr. powell is an excellent teacher. he is very helpful and easy to talk to. he loves talking about his daughter. essays are fun. journal is easy. he gives you 15 and you make up 15. definately a teacher to take.

He's a great teacher! He's extremely helpful and answers emails quickly. I really enjoyed this class. There is one test each week (answers come straight from the text most of the time), you answer 2 Q's on a film each week, there's a final, and you have to write a paper at the end of the class. It sounds like a lot of work, but it wasn't that hard.

Dan is a very good professor. You learn the fundamentals of writing and the steps you need to take to become a more successful student. He is very understanding as long as you dont try to take advantage. You do need both books so dont cheap out! TAKE THIS CLASS ITS GREAT!

I am so glad i didnot dropp this class, i learned so much from professo powell he gave me an appreciation for reading. before this class i wld not hve picked up a book and read for just enjoyment but he mkes u see how reading can enhance ur vocabulary and ur way of thinking. i got a b in his class.

He is the best english teacher I have ever had. He understands that people have different ways of writing. He is extremely helpful and is willing to help you out. He does use words that we usually never use but over all, i recommend him for everyone. He also responds to emails very quickly.

Great teacher! We had to write three papers, but they weren't that bad. Class is fun because we mainly have interesting discussions. He likes to talk about his daughter a lot.

He is very organized and answers all your questions. He also tells you how to improve your work. The 5 or 10 page essay (depending on class) wasnt fun but as long as you try, he will take it.

He is very understanding and his class is all about a journal. Keep it up to date. He likes to read what people write and will help you anytime. I am taking him again for enc- 1100.

I really liked Prof. Powell. Be prepared to write quite a bit, and bring your 'A' game with regards to grammar/punctuation. I took his course online, so I can't speak to his "hotness", but I enjoyed his class nonetheless. I found him to be flexible if you have a problem and helpful when needed. Highly recommended.

this professor was so easy!! i took it online and you have 4 discussions, a quiz every week a 10 page 350 points research paper and a final exam worth 100 points. the 10 page paper and final exam is due at the very end of the semester. Trust me this teacher is the best. there should be more like him.

Top notch prof. Coursework isn't exactly easy, but he makes it easy. Class is fun. Daniel is a good hearted man and is exceptionally helpful and resourceful. What you learn is fundamental to academic success and you couldn't ask for a better prof.

Great class! Get ready for a good bit of (really good) reading - and you will need to read. And I give much respect to Professor Powell for not making this college course "a walk in the park." I recommend that you keep the text book "The Structure of Argument" because it will come in handy. I highly recommend this class for the serious student.

He is a very good teacher. I took the eight week hybrid and it was so easy. As long as you show up and do the work, you get a good grade. He's funny too. He made us really think about arguments.

If you want that kind of teacher that likes to have fun. He is the best to take. Dan (you can call him Dan) was my first college class. If I had the chance I would take his classes over and over.

EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! Really cares about his students & has an intense interest in his classes. Overall easy but alot of reading. Quizes are 25 ?s. 2 five page essays. Midterm was an essay; i got a 97. Definitely use the textbook. Just a great teacher & class; interesting readings & class discussions. COMPLETELY RECOMMENDED!

You will rely on the textbook, and you must use proper grammar and sentence structure. He is very up front about this. Quizzes are easy but heavily weighted. Just read the text and spell check. The final seemed like a compilation of the quizzes so pay attention. He was quick to rely to e-mails and post grades. Great experience but you will earn it.

Prof. Powell is awesome. It is clearly defined what is expected of you in the syllabus. Whether you work hard or not, your grade will reflect it! English/writing has always been a difficulty for me, bet prof Powell instilled an interest and motivation to do well. Not only to do well in his class, but college as a whole. He has earned my respect!

he tells you exactly what is expected. 2 late arrivals equal 1 non attendance and you're only allowed 3 non attendances. buy the book! and read EVERY story he tells you. this class is so easy. when he tells you "write 5 paragraphs" don't write 4 or 6, only 5. he doesn't ask much of you. take notes, you're allowed to have them on the final.

He was my favorite professor by far. He was kept the whole class interested in the stories. You are allowed to keep a journal and use it one your exams and final. Loved this class!

Loved this professor! He was my absolute favorite of any that I have had at FSCJ or UCF. I am a biochem major so the English was only an elective, but I took as many of his classes as possible. He explained stuff clearly and answered all questions. It is a lot of work but he keeps it interesting.

Good teacher, but grades very tough. Considers himself to be teaching high level college writing, so your structuring better be great. He is pretty organized, fair grader (not easy not hard), and the tests are just essays

Loved this class! He uses real life issues to have you write about and kept the class very interesting. I wish I would of been able to take his other classes like ENC1101 but I will definitely be taking more of his classes!!

Professor Powell was a great teacher. He kept the class interesting and his curriculum was very interesting to follow. A lot of writing and analyzing, but worth it. Make sure you get your work in on time, and take the feedback he gives. Attendance is key. If you miss a class your grade can do down drastically. Just do the work and you will be fine.

I actually enjoyed this class. Professor Powell is a fair grader, and some would call him tough. I never received a perfect on anything; however I still received high grades. If you do the work, you will get the grade you deserve. Very communicative, very involved in the class. I would recommened him to anyone.

He is very on top of his stuff. Intelligent, fair grader. As long as you try, do the work and do it on time you're fine. The only thing was at the end there is a 5 page essay and a timed final exam(2 essays but easy for me). Plus there's one film to watch each week, an essay d/b bi-weekly, and a quiz each week. Kind of a lot of work but still fun.

One of the best English classes I have taken. Assignments were clear & deadlines were fair. 10 page paper due at end of term, weekly discussion boards and all quizzes were essay format. All material was covered in the book. A lot of writing but he graded fairly and responded to emails within a day.

Great professor. Assignments are easy. Took the class in 6 weeks. One Blackboard post every week and two papers. Midterm is a timed writing prompt online. Professor Powell is also great with helping you out with proof reading papers. Keeps a lot of office hours in case you need help or have questions. One of the better professors I've ever had.

Prof. Powell is extremely helpful and willing to go the distance if you're struggling in the class. A lot of writing is required for the class, but he helps to form you into a better writer. Loved it!!

FSCJ is lucky to have a professor like Prof. Powell. His quality as a professor is high above what you expect for a CC like FSCJ. I took him for concurrent summer semesters and he was one of the best professors I've had. Truly goes out of his way to give you his help, if you seek it. Maintains office hours and replies to e-mails promptly.

Mr. Powell was intriguing in class, we had discussions in class and i was always kept interested. I hate English but i did really enjoying attending his class. Although there was a lot of writing (as an English class should have), as long as you follow directions and put in the effort you should get an A.

Heavy communication theory in this class. Professor has deep understanding of media and discusses these perspectives in complex but interesting lectures. 10+ blog entries and wiki posts, short midterm paper, longer final paper. Writing load is heavy, so plan accordingly. Not hardest class in program, but demands a lot of time & energy.

Awesome adjunct professor at UCF this last semester. Immediate, valuable feedback. Highly organized and inspirational.

Great teacher. Only hard part was a 10 page paper at the end of the class. Discussions have to be done with 5 paragraphs and respond to peers has to be 2 - 3 paragraphs. Easy class if you are not scared to write.

Professor Powell gives the best lectures I have had In a while, you will not be bored even though he gives long lectures. It was my first time writing in that capacity and I was able to do it with the help of the writing lab. He is very clear about assignments and does grade them with feedback. He knows his stuff and enjoys its.

Daniel Powell is one of the best English teachers I've ever had. He knows whats he's talking about and loves what he does! He makes you work for your grade and will help you with any problems you have. The book is a must have and I wouldn't skip because you will fail. Actually cares about his students.

He is an incredible teacher. You can tell he is passionate about what he does, and he's crystal-clear when explaining what is expected of you. Yes, there is a ten page research paper, but he's so helpful, and even gave students research he found for their papers. You have to work for the grade, but you learn so much, which is the goal. Loved him!

If you like a challenge, take Prof. Powell :) He actually makes you work for your 'A', and I loved it. :-) I recommend to those who enjoy reading/writing, and not just looking for an easy A. :-)

Mr. Dan is a great Professor. I just finished his Enc 1101 class, and I really respect him. I like how he's fair, and very open minded. Now you will be doing a lot of papers, but the length he gives you to do them is fair. You want an A, you work for it. Definitely recommend him

Professor Powell was great! I took his 8 week online course. A lot of writing but not too hard of a grader and gives good feedback. 3 quizzes, 3 tests, a final exam and a paper. Do the work and participate in the discussions. Would definitely take again!

Prof Powell is great, but you are going to write A LOT in this class, like a 6-8 paragraph essay a week, plus a 10-pg paper and a written final. His lectures give in-depth insight to the material, so I wouldn't miss class. Powell is readily available to help, prepares you for writing solid pieces, and grades fairly. He's good, take him!

Mr. Powell is one of the best professors I have ever had. I was dreading taking english. I never did well in english classes in the past. he gives such good direction and advice, he makes it easy to do well in his class if you try. He will look at your papers and pre grade before you have to turn them in. He also offers extra credit. hes the best!

Great professor, assigns a lot of work but the texts he chooses are interesting, and he always has feedback and pointers for outside material to use in your work.

Passionate about his work and the well being of his students. TALK to him, hes a human being like the rest of us and has a lot to say.

I took the online class. I would suggest giving yourself a minimum of two hours when doing the homework, because you will be asked to write an eight paragraph essay per week on a topic with devices used in the book. Do that and you'll be fine. If you don't like to write though or write under pressure, I definitely wouldn't recommend this course.

Amazing Prof! Took 7w summer class. Online: 3 Quizzes- 6-8 paragraph papers, 3 Disc.- 8 par. paper w/3 par. response, 1 paper outline, Final 10pg research paper (25% of your grade). In class written final exam including: 6 par. article response, 2 par ad response, 10 definitions. Loved going to his class! Very interesting material! So enriching! :D

Professor Powell was great! I have a lot of respect for him. I love to read and write, so the heavy reading material didn't bother me. But there were a lot of students who just didn't seem to try that hard and hated doing all the reading. If you do what you're supposed to and listen to his lectures, you'll get an A. I would take him again!

Prof Powell was one of my favorites. He is very knowledgeable, stays on topic, makes it interesting, and encourages participation. The material isn't hard. Just do your reading and do your assignments. That isn't much to expect from an adult.

There are a lot of papers and discussion posts every week but as long as you keep up with the work, it is an easy A. He isn't a tough grader on the assignments. I spent very little time doing the work and I do not consider myself a confident writer. I received A's on all my assignments.

Overall he was a great professor. He assigned a writing assignment once a week and the text was online . Professor Daniel responded to MOST emails in a timely manner. He is not a tough grader but sticks to his first decision.

very reasonable. one assignment per week, a couple of writing quizzes and a research paper due at the very end but plenty of time is given to do it. I did this class while working full time and taking 3 other classes and didn't have a problem at all. he sends out a weekly email saying exactly what to do. such a good dude. Five eight paragraph discussion (Every two weeks), ten page research paper (due at the end of the semester), and a written final. Professor Powell has a good attitude and gives you clear instructions towards what to write about and what should be answered.

Professor Powell is passionate about English. Though the class has a lot of reading, bi-weekly 2 page essays, and a 10 page essay final writing, he's very good at what he does. He prepares you for your writings and is accessible outside of class. You have to work for your grade but it was worth it. I enjoyed his lectures because he makes jokes.

Professor Powell is a great teacher. He gives fantastic feedback individually and to the whole class. If you follow the rubrics for each assignment exactly, you will pass. There are bi-weekly assignments each being 8-paragraph essays. The final project is a 10-page research paper. It is a lot of writing but Professor Powell is great.

Professor Powell was an inspiring teacher to have taken. Lectures are basically no-notes, just enjoy listening to this guy speak about writing, his life, and his affinity for horror. 2 essays, 5 discussion posts, and extra credit. Assignments arent majorly difficult but the seven-week course load is condensed and theres a fair bit of reading.

Pay attention to his requirements and turn assignments in on time, and you'll pass. A lot of written work, but you're given plenty of time to complete them. I recommend taking Professor Powell. Professor Powell is by far one of my favorite english teachers I've had. I took the 7 week course and had one assignment (roughly 8 paragraphs each) a week. There's a decent bit of writing but it's mostly opinionated things so very easy. He gives amazing feedback to help you succeed. 10 page final research paper on a topic of your choice. Easy A!

Dr. Powell was a super cool teacher and I learned alot from him. He lays out what he wants from you in the rubric of each section. Edit your work, go by the rubric and you can't go wrong. He also gives GREAT feedback on your papers and timed essays! I truly thought I was not a good writer but he critiqued so well and gave so many good pointers!

Dr Powell is an excellent professor. He takes the time after every essay to highlight what you can improve on and what you've done well on. He answers quickly if you send him an email and takes the time to answer any questions you may have. As long as you read the modules and dedicate time to the course, you'll pass.

I loved this guy, he's a bit on the philosophical side too. Took a 7-week online class with him and there were weekly discussions that required some paragraphs.. However, the prompts were pretty interesting, especially for the final paper. He's quite open-minded and engaging with his students. I'd definitely take his class again!

I took this class in the summer so the assignments were due faster, I am not the best at writing essays but I received an A on almost every one, as long as you try you will do well.

If your goal is to get better as a writer, don't debate it, sign up for Dr. Powell's classes. He just gets it. He's very thorough in his instructions and provides valuable feedback. You can tell he really cares about his students but that he also wants to see improvement. This course was difficult at times, but if you like to read, you'll be fine.

Dr. Powell was very cool. I took him in person and he always provided clear communication on assignments. We had one paper and a few short essays each week but it was bearable.

Dr. Powell is a wonderful professor. I only wish I was able to take the class in person. There are discussion essays in which your response to others is required, a few times assignments, and a 10 page research paper at the end of the course. His grading is clear and fair, and he responds quickly to messages. I highly recommend this professor.

Loved this professor. It was a lot of reading and critical thinking for when you had to write discussion posts. He is very good at giving feedback on what your strong points are and what needs to be worked on. Was always excited to do the work in his class. Professor was engaged, caring and wants you to excel in his class and in general. Weekly discussions on topics you go over briefly in class. Two essays, and a final timed exam. Gives clear guidelines and good feedback. Gave extra credit opportunity. Gives you plenty of time to complete assignments. Not difficult. No complaints here!

I recommend him if you're interested in more creative writing. He has a lot of wiggle room with discussions and as long as you read the materials and write a thoughtful piece then you're golden. He is very helpful and if you ask for an extension on an assignment, he will grant it to you as long as you don't ask for an extension last minute.

Professor Powell is an amazing professor who gives great feedback on your writting, but english is NOT my strong suit. The discussions take quite a while to do and the timed writtings too. A 10 page research argument, 12 with work cited, but you choose your topic. It was cool because I got to learn new information on my topic but it was a lot lol.

If you truly love writing, this professor is the perfect professor for you! If not, then no. LOL. I love writing, and the assignments seemed a bit difficult.

I had Mr. Powell for ENC-1102 and he was fantastic. The class wasn't exactly easy, but only because he challenges us to learn solid writing concepts and apply them well, which requires quite a bit of reading and writing. Mr. Powell is very smart, kind, well-spoken and patient. If you invest in the coursework, he'll invest in your development.

Professor Powell is an incredible teacher. He will work with you if you have things going on in your personal life. His required readings are pleasant and productive. Take the opportunities he provides to proofread your assignments before turning them in.
