Attendance not mandatory but he does randomly call on you to get participation points. He makes class interesting, shows a lot of You Tube videos which makes the lectures less boring. End of term group project is a little unclear and if you ask him questions about it he won't explain. Otherwise I loved the class!!

This was probably the hardest class I have taken in college. Dan is a great teacher but tries to make the class as difficult as possible. You have a huge group project at the end of the course that will consume your life. Furthermore the tests are very hard. Plus you are expected to read like 50+ pages for each class. I wouldn't recommend 483.

Dan is one of my favorite teachers! Also had him for 382. Both classes I loved. If you really like marketing you will enjoy his class. I never read the textbooks but definitely read the articles. Huge projects in both which I learned a lot from and did well! ask him for help and he is more than willing to help!

Dan is really helpful. He helped me prepare for an interview and is helping me find more. The class is also very useful.

Really awesome Prof. Makes lectures very interesting . The final project is pretty tough but overall a very worth it class. I would definitely recommend over most MKTG electives.

After having questionable experiences with online courses in the past, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this course was coherent and structured in a way that allows you to learn a lot. Assignments are scheduled so you wont fall behind. Teacher communicated promptly. The online resources were very user friendly. Overall just a good teacher

Dan is awesome! The project will be the majority of your grade so make sure you choose your teammates wisely because it helps having people with different skills and choose a business that you can have fun with.

Dan is one of the best coaches or teachers I have ever had. He consistently provides practical knowledge and goes out of his way to challenge you to improve you skills. DO NOT procrastinate on the project, as it is very long and time consuming. It is well worth the effort, though! If you have the opportunity to take Dan's class, don't miss out.

This class keeps you busy but is is WORTH IT. Dan is an awesome guy and awesome professor and the class teaches you about what you will actually be doing if you pursue a career in Marketing.

I took his marketing 380 online, and i actually found this to be one of the more interesting classes i have taken at western. His grading is reasonable and very clear, the only assignments i ever had to turn in were a couple writing assignments on articles you get to choose, OL weekly quizzes, one midterm, and one final. Pretty straight forward.

one of the few classes that I've taken at WWU that truly pushed me to practice my analytical skills and to continuously improve. It may be a tough class, but if you put in the work you will come out more prepared as a student and a future marketer. Purdy is extremely accessible and willing to offer advice both academically and professionally.

Dan was a really nice guy and I'm doing well in his class so far. He expects you to do reading, watch his lectures, and look over his powerpoints at home because he doesn't go over that stuff in class. But as long as you are willing to put in a little time, and get a good group for the group project, then you will be 100% fine! He's a great guy!

Dan Purdy is really passionate about marketing. As a marketing major I liked this. However he does tend to ramble sometimes. But he has so much life/business experience to share. His tests aren't too hard but require a bit of memorizing.

Online class is way better than traditional class if you're okay at writing papers. There are five papers (but only 5 paragraphs each)! Quizzes are super easy. Midterms/Final are 60% of grade, but not too hard. Skip the video lectures. No time anyway. Just read the book and use quizlet dot com to study. Dan is a super nice professor.

If you are interested in marketing take classes from Dan! His class won't be easy as there are weekly quizzes, and lots of group project work, but you WILL learn! He is a great lecturer, very engaged and in touch with his students. He provides great feedback. If you put in the work, he will recognize that and grades fairly. BEST PROFESSOR AT WWU.

Gives the greatest motivational speeches I've ever heard in my entire life. Take Dan not for the grade, but for a better life.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very difficult class to get a good grade in. That being said, Dan is a phenomenal professor who really cares about your learning. His lectures are well developed and easy to understand, and it's just plain fun to watch. He's a really funny guy, and I actually look forward to coming into his class each morning.

Dan is one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He is a very smart and engaging guy with a hilarious attitude. He makes lectures interesting and fun and teaches you tons of life lessons involving your career along the way. Exams are tough so read the textbook and understand all the terms. Group presentation was fun and relatively easy too.

If your soft, you won't like Dan. But if you're in school to learn and grow, Dan's classes will make you a smarter, more mature person both professionally and academically. Don't expect the class to be fun but do expect to get a lot out of it. Engaging lecturer.

Dan is easygoing but demands excellence. Quizzes, midterm and final are from a bank of never-ending questions. Practice them and you'll do well. He gives generous grading curves to help boost grades. It's tough to get an A on the group project. Know your stuff or prepare to be humiliated! Use office hours as he never responds to email.

Dan is the professor that colleges should model their professors on. He is exciting, funny, and demands you do things to Thebes best of your ability. Hell rip you a new one if you dont know your stuff so make sure you are present and attentive. He will teach you some of the most important life lessons you will ever hear. Great man great class.

Daily multiple choice online quizzes that you can retake until you are happy. Finals are like the quizzes, but there are a lot of terms to learn. He is a caring teacher though as he made the final optional due to the pandemic and the BLM movement, because students were distracted.

This class is time-consuming so plan your schedule accordingly. Lots of homework, in-class discussions, group projects every week(papers) & in-class presentations. Dan is tough on students, but only wants the best for his students so they will be prepared for their career. Always be prepared to get called on. Hardest class ever, but learned a lot.

What I like about Dan is his information is really up to date. He address things that are happening today, as well as many sections that you can relate to to and understand. Took him online so luckily didnt have many projects, but enjoyed his class online. Test were definitely fair as long as you take good notes and study!

Class is fairly easy. Dan is very strict on deadlines and treats the class as if you are at work extensions are hard to get but if you have a valid reason he will consider it. final and midterm are both 100 questions in 75 minutes the questions are all online so easy to study for

This class consists of 15 quizzes (2 a week) with unlimited attempts and no time limit and 2 exams. He didn't curve any of our exams as he assumed cheating was at play, can't say I blame him after though. Overall the class was pretty easy and he gave good feedback.

By now you have probably all heard the rumors, and trust me, taking this class can be a bit scary. This was probably the first class in college where I had to put in real time and effort to do well. Dan sets up the class in a way that encourages failure, and from that, growth. Go in with the intention to work hard, he can be a great mentor!

Dan is a divisive character, I hate to love him. I've never worked harder, been more stressed out, or learned more than in this class. This class made me understand and even enjoy statistics. If you have high standards, all the group work will make this a painful quarter. Do the extra credit, even though you won't have time, it's worth it.

In terms of actually getting you to LEARN something, Dan is great and might have the best approach in any prof I've had. While not easy, he made the material approachable. As long as you show up to lecture and follow his advise with retaking the quizzes, it's not THAT hard but requires minor commitment.

Good but tough professor. He can come across as mean but he just wants his students to learn. High expectations. This class does take a toll on stress levels as you also have to take MKTG382 with it so be prepared for a lot of group work and studying. I took 17 credits, so I would not recommend taking more than that when taking this

Take Dan's IMC class! I learned more in this class than I ever expected to in a quarter, the best part is you get to create, distribute, and promote content.

Dan is the best professor at Western in the Marketing department. I finally started to learn stuff about the field I was going in to when I started taking his classes. He has a true passion for helping students learn, even if it comes across as 'mean' or 'tough.'

A masterclass in teaching marketing to university students. Dan is a veteran in his field and deeply cares about the student's success so, and he challenges them to apply themselves. Very clear grading system and provides a sound teaching mechanism in the form of "never-ending" practice quizzes so you can learn more and control 50% of your grade.

The course is tough, but that's part of getting a college education. Many overlook that college is meant to be difficult; it's what makes getting a degree so rewarding. Group projects, hard as they are, bring so much satisfaction when getting them right. The class is manageable if you're willing to put in the hours of effort to study.

Opinions on Dan are mixed because of his high expectations and difficult content, but college is supposed to challenge you as that is how you learn and grow. 381 is highly rewarding if you put in the effort. I really liked Dan. He was by far the best marketing professor I have had yet. Projects are hard, just pray you get a good group. His lectures are chaotic but he does care about you and explains the material in a applicable way. I found him to be hilarious and relatively nice. PRESENTING SUCKS A LOT. Pray you don't get called on

I have never had a professor keep my attention like he did in this class. There is a ton of work, but you get out what you put in. It is really interesting, so I didn't mind the work too much. 6 group projects throughout the quarter, but as long as you have a good group, you are set. 10/10 would take again.

While he might seem scary, Dan means well and wants students to be successful. Very wise, lot of expert knowledgable, and very funny. By far the most rigorous class I've ever taken here. Be ready for group projects, learn a lot, and get roasted. If you have a good group, you're good. I respect Dan! Get ready to be humbled though!

This class is not easy, it is considered a "weed out class". I barely passed and go some of the lowest scores on the exams out of the class. Never the less the professor was super helpful in my class and my career. I would recommend preparing to put a lot of time and effort into this class to get a good grade.

This class elevated my career, I walked out of this class with much more robust portfolio including a website for my personal brand. I learned real life marketing skills that I will keep throughout my career. The professor even helped me with out of class advices.

I became a Product manager for 6 content creators and learned real life marketing management skills, this class felt more like real life rather than the class. I than became the director of analytics for the entire class in the spring quarter, I hardly look at the grade book because I know I'm learning and care less about the grade.

This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. Expect to work overtime on campus completing group projects. That being said, I learned so much from him about marketing, professionalism, and life. He creates an environment to make and correct mistakes. Do the extra credit, show up, participate, study for exams, and pray for a good group!

You get what you pay for. Hard and a lot of work, but you learn a ton! Go to class, do the work, and participate, you will be okay, hard class to fail. Very applicable to the real world.

Difficult class, group projects and individual one. No test, quizzes, or textbook. Dan seems harsh, gives critical feedback, he just wants you to learn, but talking to him directly he is very nice and understanding.

By far the best Marketing Professor I have had at Western. His classes are tough but then of course, so rewarding. All of his classes has given me so much confidence when considering using my industry knowledge in the real world. Anyone who wants to challenge themselves (confident or not) will gain so much from his classes.

I recently graduated and I've been working in marketing for 8 months. The reality is that a lot of 381 is outdated information. I really liked Dan, but most employers aren't using surveys and SPSS anymore. The general concepts of 381 are important, but marketing has evolved. Curriculum needs to be updated for how stressful the class was.

Dan is great but 381 is a very difficult class, with a heavy work load. He allows redos of projects sometimes which is nice but SPSS assignments are pretty confusing and the exams were difficult.

I actually really liked Dan. He can definitely be annoying, but overall he does want the best for his students. The class goes so much smoother if you participate, and it goes a long way with Dan. Then he doesn't pick on you or cold call on you.
