Dr. Rose is very intelligent but comes across as totally arrogant and snobby. Even when he is trying to be helpful, he comes across as fake. He knows his math, but I would not recommend him to anyone who is afraid of algebra. I really enjoyed algebra, until i got stuck with him.
I dont know about his algebra classes, but he taught this class very well. He is very helpful and has office hours like every day. Extremely knowledgeable and breaks down everything. Dont really even need the book, he gives very good notes.
he's a nice guy. Math sucks, no matter who you take, the class is going to suck.
He is a good professor. He is very enthusiastic about math and sometimes is humerous. He makes math clear and gives several examples. He dosen't really use the book that much though. He is fair in his grading, and is helpful in trying to help you understand math.
He is a nice teacher; really knows his math. He is willing to help.
He is very helpful. He has tons of office hours and is always willing to help. His tests are not that hard, espicially if you go to him right before you take the test and go over everything. One thing that anoyed me though is that he cancelled class a lot and would put a quiz in the testing center in place of class
Mr. Rose was an overall good teacher. You have to work in his class but it's not difficult
he's too much into math. no sense of humor at all but a very good math teacher. very enthusiastic about his subject and keep you up to date. he still hopes that "someday when you write your own math books make sure that...."

You can tell that he really loves math. He always described his perfect Sunday afternoon as -- he receives a new math text book in the mail and he sits out on his porch on a sunny day, reading the whole book and drinkin ice tea. His appearance is very sexy/nerd-ish -- he's got Conan hair that flops about -- and he has a great sense of humor -- but can get serious when he needs to. Great teacher!
Kinda quirky but what can you expect from someone who likes to read math textbooks? Will give you help if you come to him.
Pro Rose is the best math teacher in this school. He takes his teaching very serious but he knows his stuff and that makes the class very easy if you pay attention and do your work. I recommend him to everybody.
Prof. Rose does a great job explaining things to his students. He seems to be a really nice guy who genuinely cares how his students are doing. Would recomend him highly.
he is one of the best math teacher i have ever had
Great Math Professor, very clear ..... enjoyed his class! go to class everyday & pay attention you'll get an A+++
This teacher is amazingly good. hes very cool and a very awsome teacher. if your taking him for any mat cources thn u shud feel lucky
This teacher is amazingly good. hes very cool and a very awsome teacher. Go to every class and ask him for help wheneverr u want cuz hes always there to help you out. pay attention in his class and do all homework that he assigns you(he doesnt even give that much homework:P) and you'll def get A+ in his class.if your taking him for any mat cources
I took his class during the summer so it was a shorter class but he was an amazing teacher. He made sure that EVERYONE understood what was going on. H gives quizes every other class to make sure that everyone is with it. He is willing to help and he is always in during his office hours. He is an amzing teacher!!!
Loved this teacher. Thought he was very helpful! Whenever I had trouble, I could go to him. He does come off a little arrogant and snobby, but honestly, I don't think he means to. I had him for two math courses at MCCC and highly enjoyed being in his classes.
The best math prof i ever had!
Great Teacher, light but through course load. Explains material well and is very specific with what is on the tests... understanding enough to give partial credit when you show that you are understanding any material in the lesson
Dan Rose is a fantastic teacher. He is extremely helpful, easy to approach, and very fair about everything. Go out of your way to take him.
He is a great math teacher. One of the best i had. Easy to understand and very helpful. tests and quizzes are easy. i would recomment taking his courses.
the best math prof @ mercer. he just makes calc easy. tells u how many problems from which section will be on the test. he does his review from the test. some of his test questions r straight form the notes. u will be surprise how easy calc is.
the best math prof @ mercer. makes calc very easy. some test ques. straight from the notes. does the test review from the original test. tell u what kind of question from which sec will be on the test. quizzes r really easy.just take notes & review from the notes. take both calc with him & u will love his class.
the best prof @mecer. no need to buy a book. just go to his class with a pen, notebook @ your brain. write down everything that he puts on the board. just pay attention & u will be fine. take calcI&II with him.
Took calc 1 with him. Very clear. Keeps it simple. Very easy class because he is so easy to understand.
loved his class, very easy & clear. just what u need for a calc class. easy quizzes & exams. batter to take calc with him then with other prof. or in any other university such as RU
excellent!
He's a great professor. When he gives out homework, he only assigns the ones that are important. He's not like other professors who assign every single exercise. His tests are fair. If you go to class, pay attention and understand his lectures, the tests can be done. Make sure that you show all your work because he offers partial credit.
He is the person to learn calc from i don't think there's anyone else who can teach as good as he does. He make sure that everyone understands, & test, quizzes & final r so easy. u will actually be able to remember calc even after the semester ends. VERY HELPFUL & FAIR GRADING.
Best prof for calc. made calc 2 easy even in summer. Should teach calc 3
He the BEST. I took his Cal I and Cal II. Like everyone said, he keeps everything very simple and clear. You have to take lots of notes and do heavy homeworks but those are very useful for the tests. All my friends who took his classes loved him!!! If I need to say one thing bad about him.... well, he wears the same jeans for the whole semester.
GREAT TEACHER!!
Awesome guy, pretty easy. lots of quizzes at least 1 every 2 weeks. tests not too bad. strict with attendance and phones.
By far one of the BEST teachers at MCCC. Did a great job teaching a tough class. Told us exactly what would be on the quizes and test. Makes everything clear and easy to understand. AWESOME..highly recommend him.
Really easy to pay attention to.
Awesome teacher. Really makes everything extremely clear. His tests and quizzes were basically the homework assignments (homework is very very important). Overall great professor
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! Hands down. He made Calculus so interesting, and I love Math now because of his class. He makes everything clear by using step by step processes, as anyone should in a Math course. This way you can solve ANY problem. I can't wait for Calculus 2, and I hope I get another teacher that's just as good as he was.
Was a great teacher he really explained things well step by step so you really could understand what you were doing. He was also a good listener and a fun teacher and made learning Math fun. He was also friendly and fun to talk to and helpful during office hours when you had questions.
AWESOME TEACHER! Really explains everything extremely well. I took him for 135 and Calc he was awesome for both! got an A in Calc because of him. Really explains everything super clear and won't move on until he knows everyone understands. Definitley TAKE HIM
very helpful, one of the better teachers at mercer. Kept things interesting and explained harder concepts in a very simple way. He explains what you wants you to know for he exams and is willing to go over everything from what he discussed in class to what you need to do to transfer. Make sure you pay attention and everything will go well.
So I go to Penn State UP and I had to drop math 111 (easy calc1) and decided to take this equivalent of Penn State's math 140 (hard calc1) over the summer. Gotta say, Dan the man was a great teacher; explained everything well, very chill and approachable, really wanted students to do well and would work one on one to help you pass. I got a B.
He is an amazing teacher. He explains thoroughly. He is really funny. He is extremely knowledgeable about math. He never had to open a book. He knew everyone's name. One of the best teacher at Mercer if not the best.
Amazing Professor! Prof. Rose is very knowledgeable in Math and can teach it incredibly well. Teaches everything step-by-step so you'll never get lost and will answer any questions you have. Highly recommend him for any Math classes!
GREAT teacher. it was such a pleasure being in his class. this teacher is so smart. you can ask him anything. he will prepare you with math skills for the test and for life. i wish i could have him for every math course.
He is very eager to help and really encourages office hours and questions. He is very passionate and VERY smart. The lectures go by quickly because watching him can be captivating. He's simply brilliant with a great sense of humor. He's awkward in a good way and his intellect is sexy, also that thing he does with his hair. Do yourself a favor guys.
He's passionate about math. He's very humble, brilliant, and helpful. Calculus is a challenging subject, but with him at the helm lecturing, giving instruction on how to approach a problem. I now know that I can get through all of the levels of math. He said to contact him even if you're not at MCCC anymore. Great mind and mentor. Thank you 4ever.
AMAZING! The most knowledgeable professor I've ever met. He is incredibly supportive and incredible at teaching. I feel like if I was taking DiffQ with anyone else I would've not learned nearly as well as I have. I give a 5 for easiness because the material was intrinsically difficult but he made it much easier through stellar instruction.
Prof. Rose is the best math prof I've had my entire life. He thoroughly explains everything and if you have any questions, he makes himself available and will work with your schedule. He is eager to see his students pass and gives lots of partial credit on tests, making it easier to get a good grade. Would recommend him to anyone struggling in math
So good i decided to take Calculus 2 three times with him Loves to wipe the chalk off the board with his hands and run it through his hair. You will always see him with chalk on some part of his clothing.
I took Rose for Calc 1 this semester and I can say he is one of the best professors I've had at Mercer thus far. Although he's great at explaining the material and being professional while he does it he is definitely not an easy A. You're going to have to work for your grade but he is a fair grader.
Wonderful teacher who really cares about his student's success, really knows what he is talking about, enthusiastic about the class and eager to share his knowledge. He comes across as a bit of a hardball but he is very sweet, and will work with you if you are a serious student, and he himself very available outside of class. HIGHLY recommend.
He's an excellent guy. Explains the material very well and isn't there just to pick up a paycheck. He loves mathematics and he loves teaching it. Cracks a few jokes which keeps you entertained, I would definitely take another class with him if I could.
He's a nice guy and is really caring but because it was a Summer course it was too much! He is really strict on grading. He would take off points if you don't have a parenthesis or the right equation. He explains the material very well but his grading is really strict. Take him over Fall or Spring BUT NOT OVER THE SUMMER
Professor Rose is a great teacher. He explains everything well and tells you how the tests and quizzes will be. He doesn't grade homework but does answer any questions that you have. Great teacher, would take another class with him if possible.
He lays everything out and makes it very easy to understand. If you plan on taking Calc 1, I dont recommend taking Rose for precalc. Theres a lot of things not gone over in Roses precalc that are now making Calc I more difficult than it needs to be (unit circle, radians, trig relationships, etc).
Cool guy. Very intelligent. Explains the stuff very well but is super fast. Overall he is a good person and the struggle in class does pay off even if u dont do as well as u expected or at all. The knowledge and his style he teaches does make it easier in the future so either ways with rose you are covered as long you don't give up. Recommend him.
He was a great professor! I took his class for Calculus and he explained things really well and used proofs to help you understand the topic. You can tell from the way he is in class that he is actually interested in mathematics and enjoys teaching it, which makes him such a good teacher. 10/10 would take again!
Professor Rose is overall a great professor. His lectures are very clear and he makes sure everyone understands the content. Lots of quizzes & he gives partial credit! However, he seems like he's being bothered every time a student goes to get help during office hours. You don't really feel welcome when you stop by his office so it gets awkward.
If you are super good at math then take him otherwise dont take him.
My false I registered with him. He doesnt care about students at all
Dont take him
Professor Rose is awesome but sometimes goes a little fast when going through the lecture seems to have a lot of homework and my brain was not grasping the concepts mostly but he is very respected and his Math classes are filled fast.
He is a good guy but he can get off topic. You will spend time teaching yourself the material on your own.
don't take him
I wont take him again
you have do a lot homework and no credits for it.
pre calc is a hard subject and he makes it super understandable! even if you answer the question wrong, he gives you credits on the quizzes and tests just for attempting to solve it. also no homework or projects just pay attention in class and review and you will get a good grade.
Goes very fast. DONT TAKE!
He is a very lenient grader who gives some credit most of the time even if you don't know the answer. Everything he writes on the board is on his test and quizzes and tells you when they will be happening in advance. He likes to get off topic frequently but all around a fine class.
Prof Rose is an excellent professor. Took summer class with him and it was excellent. He really made precalc easy. Pay attention in class and do the HW. The test is literally what the HW is. He just changes numbers. HW is not required but definitely recommended.
I'm a student at Penn State and I took MAT 152 this summer which is an equivalent of MATH 141. I took this course after withdrawing from online MATH 141. He made calc very easy to understand in a short time. This was overall an amazing summer math course. Do the homework, review the notes and ur set for tests and quizzes. Go to office hrs if needed
Knows his stuff but has a strange personality. It's almost uncomfortable to approach him and go to his office hours for help. He always acts like he's in a rush. He's also super serious about not emailing grades and there are absolutely no exceptions. Gives partial credit for all the math courses he teaches.
DONT TAKE
Professor Rose is a really nice guy with an interesting personality. He only teaches the important stuff in the course and he simplifies everything for you. Outside of class, he is easily reached during his office hours.
Awesome and super thorough professor. He knows his stuff in all subjects of math, so not just calculus 2, but I HIGHLY recommend him for any class math related.
Great professor. Knows his math and wants students to actually understand it. Textbook assignments+pay attention A.
Good professor. He can be strict sometimes, especially when it comes to phones. Test and quizzes can be difficult, but he drops your lowest quiz score.
I took Stats. Always willing to help no matter the lesson or time. A simple email and he was always there to answer. He had many assignments that could be viewed as free points (emailing him and saying do now was one of the assignments). I would 100% take this class again! Test were very heavily weighted so make sure to do good on easy assignment
He lets you know in advance when the pop quizzes will be & will give a clear idea of what will be on the test & quizzes. He's very accommodating. As long as you ask questions when you don't understand something in class & ask to see problems on the board when you don't understand, you should be fine.
I had professor Rose for calculus 2 and calculus 3. While his lectures tend to focus a lot more on problem-solving rather than theory, they are easy to digest. He tells you clearly what you are expected to know and is familiar with the class material inside and out.
He was a great professor. The textbook is free and gives feedback/corrections for every quiz and test. If you have any difficulty, shoot him an email and he will find a way to make the class easier for you. Overall a great prof.
I got extra help on Zoom & it was helpful. Do hw problems b/c they're important for the quizzes & tests. He gives partial credit for doing your work & explaining what you think you did wrong & can do. There's an extra credit question at the end of tests. Little quiz each week & drops lowest. Textbook online/free. If you miss class, talk to him!
Literally the best math professor ever. He made Pre-Calculus and Calculus I the most easiest class ever. There's weekly quizzes, 2 tests, a midterm, and a final and they're all very easy. He's accessible outside of class. He's a jokester and his students love him.
Professor Rose has great communication skills and it is easy to understand what he expects from you. The class is test/quiz heavy (10 quizzes, 2 tests, midterm, and final.) You are only graded on those things because homework is not graded. A con is that he does not let you make up anything unless you have an excusal through mercer.
Very nice professor. Always willing to help! Be ready on the first day. Your gonna have a test or quiz every week!! So be ready for it from week 1 to week 14. Overall pretty good professor
Professor Rose is very clear and concise with his expectations and grading criteria. He is extremely helpful and gets back to you quickly. Very helpful inside and outside of the class and grades the process while giving partial credit. Highly recommend.
I took calc in high school and had to drop it because i didn't understand. but Professor rose taught in a manner that was super clear and easy to understand. As long as you study (meaning doing the homework) you're prepared for the weekly quiz and if you do the practice tests you're prepared for the actual tests.
This is a great professor. He is extremely kind, understanding, helpful, and encouraging. If you take MAT 125 (Elementary Statistics), be prepared to have quizzes every other day of class. Relax they are 2 or 3 question quizzes and as long as you do the homework you will get good grades on your quiz. Highly recommend taking his classes.
Grades fair you just have to put in some effort
Easy class, great professor just pay a little attention.
Yes, he knows what he is doing but doesn't conduct in a manner many can understand. If you are a person who learns quickly and easily, you'll be okay. He rushes, and if you do not get it, oh well. If you don't learn fast and efficiently, I highly do not recommend him. He needs to work on his speed and realize we aren't mathematicians but students.
Professor Rose knows his stuff. Pay attention and you will learn. Do the homework and study for the weekly quiz, and of course for the tests as well.
Lacks awareness that his students may not have an advanced mathematical background and are in the process of learning. Assumes a high level of proficiency in calculus from the start. Presents lessons unclearly and rushes through lectures. Displays a lack of concern for the success of his students and does not provide opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Rose is a good professor. However, he seems rushed a lot and doesn't always cover everything in full detail that is easily understood. Everything's out of 100 points. If you get something wrong, he gives partial credit but also takes a lot of points off. I got -15 once even tho all the work was correct just the number answer was wrong.
He has homework for every section but it is not graded, used the textbook but posted a free online one for us to use, there is a quiz every week, answers any questions you have on homework, overall a pretty good professor
Professor Rose is a great professor. The coursework can get tricky if you're not spending time outside of class reviewing the material. There are 2 tests, a midterm, final, and a quiz almost every week. Study the material and you should do well in his class.
I took Calc 2 with him over the summer. His quizzes and tests weren't hard but weren't trivial either, so you need to put in some effort and pay attention. Although his reactions were a bit odd at times, he was nice and funny. He answers your questions respectfully, even if they seem silly. He's professional and treats all students equally.
He is an incredible and outstanding professor. However, be careful he can be tough on grading even with a small errors can take a considerable amount of points even though he don't like students to take pictures of the board most of the times. Pay attention to his class because can be really be tricky sometimes if you don't spend a moderate time.
Super thorough and in depth but still gets through all the material. The tests felt fairly graded for the most part and the material on them was never meant to trick you or mess you up for no reason. Answers questions and was often prepared for most questions I planned to ask. Great example for what math professors should be like.
He, takes his quiz problems from the homework and the tests from the quiz, so make sure you do the homework. He's an good grader and usually gives your final grade based on how much you were improving as well and not just the points at face value. Really great professor.
I had professor Rose for Calculus I, and he was awesome. He's clearly passionate about what he teaches and I loved the little concept tangents he would go on. The lectures were long but as long as you take good notes and do the homework and test review, the tests and quizzes are not a problem. Would definitely recommend!
I wasn't the best student in high school so I was worried when I signed up for calc 1. Professor Rose was such an amazing teacher. Taking his classes gave me so much confidence in calculus. As long as you're genuinely interested in learning, you will succeed in his classes. I just wish he taught differential equations as well.
He teaches very thoroughly and makes you understand the course material in a manner that isn't difficult. He offers extra credit on tests/quizzes and doesn't grade homework. 10/10
