Extremely difficult to understand. Inability to answer questions effectively. Strays in explanations, random descriptions of off topic subjects. Wanders from discussion to discussion without transition.
His class was very hard to follow. He would give examples ont he board but skip steps 2-6 and end up at the anwser with no complete explination. I found it very hard to follow. studied and studied and wasnt able to grasp the math. a waste of time to take math from him. I dropped the class rather then fail.
This class was sooo confusing! The beginning was easy but as soon as we started getting into the book, i was lost. He gives all odds for each chapter (usualy a hundred pgs.) as homework and then you have a test on it. if you dont undrestand it you will fail. DO NOT TAKE
He is nice and explains all the chapter well
This professor knows his stuff, but unfortunately the people less gifted in math do not know what he is talking about. He can literaly be followed word for word in the textbook. If you take his class, just read the book. I found it a lot easier to read the book than to listen to him. But all in all he is a nice guy who tries very hard to teach.
Although some say that Mr. Rubenstein is tough and rough and not easy and all that jazz, I had a great time in his class and learned a lot about math. Even though my grade wasn't so splendorific, I think he taught me well, and it's helped me since I've taken that class over 2 years ago. You just have to be willing to learn. He has nice shoes.
Math isn't really my thing, but Prof. Rubinstein made it not so bad. He's really helpful if you have any questions, and will make sure you understand it before he moves on. There's kind of a lot of homework, and the exams weren't all that easy, but like I said, I'm not a math person so you might think its cake.
Good Professor, Attendance Affects Your Grade, Will Go Over Material Many Times Which is helpful, Drops your lowest grade, I would recommend him
I am not a math person and if I had taken this class with anyone else I wouldn't have had a prayer. He actually cares whether you learn the material. He will not leave anyone behind. He creates an environment where it's Ok to speak up and say you don't get it. He will stay on it 'till everyone gets it. He also reviews at the start of every class
Enjoyed coming to class for the math jokes. Fun teacher! Hard tests, but I am not a math person either. Got a 77% in the class, soooo close to a B. But his grading scale for a C is 65-80.
Very Bad math teacher, his inexperience causes poor understanding of any material. Don't take him if you expect to pass the class or learn anything about math.
He is a cool guy and he is a total genius, he just cant figure out how to teach it to people not at his level. I suggest this class to those honor students out there that are looking to get ahead and can see eye to eye with him. As for the rest of us, I would not suggest this class. Hes not clear enough. And i had to take 2 notebooks of notes fyi.
-passionate about math-organized-grades on a curve-extremely nice-patient-helped me learn. I recommend this teacher 100%. excellent.
Horrible teacher. Won't let you use calculators ever, and can't learned anything from him. He's no good if you wanna a good grade in his class.
Great teacher. Went over homework, and explained everything very well. Fair grader. I learned a lot from the class, and was able to complete a year of geometry in 6 weeks during my summer break from high school.
This teacher is way too hard. I went as far as to pay a tutor to teach me and I still don't understand the crap he teaches. I really am not at his level in math and it is way too complicating. He makes things that are easy hard to understand. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
Proffesor's teaching is horrible. He teaches to fast and leaves students behind. Extremely hard grader. Dosen't care about his students. Attendance affects your grade. Do not take him. I do not recommend him for math.
Daniel is very nice but is on a totally different level mathwize than most people. I liked him as a person but thought he made it too difficult to pass his class. I have gotten straight A's, besides his class that is. I think he would better serve his students if he used more familiar methods to teach students and not rely on students prior knowled
Great Teacher. Good man. He is very patient, and always available to help you. Challenges you to achieve what you did not think you could. If you are looking for an easy grade, maybe this is not the teacher for you. If you want to learn math TAKE THIS CLASS!
Great teacher! I took his geometry class in the summer during a break in high school, and in just 6 weeks, we covered the entire year of geometry. He explained everything well, and worked problems every day to help you learn the material well. Tests were fair. My best math teacher so far!
The best math teacher ever!!! TAKE HIM!!! He makes class interesting with his sense of humor. Exactly what you need from a math professor-soooo patient!! Ask him anything. He really wants you to succeed. I hate math, but this is the first math class I've ever found myself looking forward to.
Very hard teacher. Didn't write on the board for the first 2 weeks. Would rather be sarcastic and make himself look good/funny than actually help you. 80 min timed test every week. You study from the book although he writes the test questions himself. They are not the same format. I couldn't stand him or his personality. Beware.
Hard class. Most people Didn't do so well. He's a genius though, very funny. He's very cute in a nerdy way and he has no idea.. makes class more interesting. He really tries to help though... hes a good kid
He really is a genius. Smartest teacher I've ever had. And definitely cute/funny in the geekiest way ever. (looks like he dressed in the dark half the time). I couldn't recommend this teacher highly enough. He grades in a really fair way, so if a lot of people do badly on a test, he'll curve it a lot so that everyone does well.
nerdy and sexy in his own way. not very clear when teaching. attendance is 10%. tests difficult. No calculaters allowed. lots of HW
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! he is really rude and has a terrible attitude. He thinks he is better then everyone else and he gets frustrated if you dont understand the material. Over half of the class dropped. He assigns so much hw you wont know what to do with urself. i would never take him again even if someone paided me
He's a very good teacher. You get full credit on the homework as long as you DO it; he doesn't check that each answer is correct, but he's very nit-picky about tests. BUT non-the-less I liked him, he's SO geeky that it's charming, and I ended up with an A even though I'm not very good at math.
He is super nice and a great teacher. He wouldn't move on until everyone understood which is good but sometimes I felt it was just time to move on! Lots of HW but he doesn't check the problems just checks that you did it. I found the tests really easy, he goes over everything before hand and curves them if needed. Plus he is so cute and funny :)
He's a great guy and you can tell he really wants everyone to understand. He is very clear about what he wants out of you. You have to take notes and come to every class, but that's true for most. Everything on the test is in the notes. And he really encourages people to go beyond, by banning calculators and everything. Everyone should take him!
SAVE YOURSELF, DO NOT TAKE HIM! Daniel is a good guy, but an awful teacher. WE FINISHED THE BOOK in 12 weeks! I've never done that unless it was a novel. He doesn't make sense out of anything, and makes you do about 300 problems a week for homework. If you want to dedicate your life to this class, take him. Otherwise save yourself!
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He's a TERRIBLE teacher! He's very unclear about everything. I've never disliked MATH until I took it with this guy!! LOTS of HW! EXAMS are RIDICULOUS!!
This guy has a great humor that helps lighten the mood. The class is fast paced, requires attendance and a lot of HW. I would recommend this class as a good foundation if you want to really know your stuff. The teacher is very patient and will help if you ask. Something about all that braininess combined with humor that makes him geek hot!
Took him in the summer, very good prof. Tests were hard, but he would compensate grades based on results. The take home final practice was excellent. Gave extra credit quizzes at the end of class for the people who stayed.Really funny!
he's a great teacher and clear explainer. he offers little to no extra credit. he's a stickler to the math rules. very nicce guy. Dorky :)
This professor has high expectations. He moves to quickly through problems. jumps around so you are not able to master one concept before learning the next step. lets put it this way there where 30 or more students enrolled in this class inthe begining of the semester by the finale there were only 6-10 students left in my class most didnt get it.
Very hard tests, curved fairly. Typically a mid C will turn into a mid B in the actual gradebook. If you do all of your homework, you will do fine. Very quirky and entertaining sense of humor.
Do not take!! Extremely hard class! My class started off with 40 people and ended with only 10 people left. Test are extremely hard! Lots of homework.
Take him if you want to learn algebra. Don't take him if your just looking for a easy grade. You have to put some work into his class, but he is a very consistent and fair grader. Has a habit of curving and rounding up grades. You earn your A in this class though.
One of the smartest people I have ever met in my life. I have no idea why I took this class, I'm in Calc 2 now and I still find this class easier than his class. Killed my GPA... DO NOT TAKE!
While he's not always the most interesting during lecture, he's thorough and clear and will teach you what you need to know. I had him for summer and he answered any questions and seemed like he cared about the class's understanding of stats. I would recommend him.
This class was tough to say the least, but it's not impossible to pass. He assigns a LOT of homework, purposefully to have his students practice the material. I did all of the homework, did not miss a class and still struggled, but he understood. His lectures are fast paced, too fast for me to follow... so I just read the text during his lectures.
Does not know how to teach. If you leave the class early he'll give everyone a quiz. If you don't understand the lesson he gets frustrated easily. He talks like a scientist and it's hard to understand hs lectures. Don't take him if you're lazy!!
Great Teacher, very clear and concise lectures. He will ask in the beginning of class if anyone needs to go over the homework and has no issues explaining the subject matter again. Tests are definitely on the harder side but he gives a Pre-test that covers everything one needs to know a weekend in advance. A bit of a dork, but its part of his charm
One of the best professors I've had so far. Will definitely take another class from him if my schedule allows. Attendance is essential and don't leave early. Drops lowest test score. Very helpful in class, never talks down to anyone and is able to teach the material well. Wants you to learn. Brilliant guy - absolutely knows his stuff.
Super smart teacher, but the material is hard. You will cover the ENTIRE book. Homework each night, covers 2-3 sections per class.
BRILLIANT guy. I am not good at math but managed to get a C. He curved all our tests, and dropped the lowest one. Extremely helpful!! I was surprised at how much time he spent each class to answer our HW questions (HW every night, but really NOT bad at all). Study guide for every test, too! Entertaining? No. But great teacher.
Professor Rubinstein is a high quality calculus teacher with an immense knowledge of the subject. Preparations for each lesson are thorough and professional. This professor is fair, funny, and incredibly intelligent. He can be slightly presumptuous about your knowledge base, so make sure your pre-calc and trig are on point.
Took his class for the second time taking Calculus (first was a different professor) and he explained it in a way that made sense and didn't mind explaining until everyone understood.
No-nonsense teacher; will go by the rules w/o exception. Don't expect early release or slacking off. You'll cover whole book in the semester. Moves pretty fast, which can be hard @ times to keep up w/ notes. Hard exams. Doesn't coddle students but if you ask for help, he'll be there for you to no end. Very fair, doesn't judge, fast grader. A+ Prof!
This professor is AWESOME! He makes nerdy pop culture references on occasion, but most importantly he knows his stuff. I had him for Algebra way back in the day and miss him as I go further into Calculus. If you have the chance to take him, do it! He's not easy, but he will make sure you understand everything. He's the reason I am an engineer.
I've hated math my entire life. After this semester with Mr. Rubinstein, I love it. His lectures are extremely thorough, and he is happy to explain things until everyone understands. With that said, he is a tough teacher. He holds his students to a high standard, but prepares them adequately for it. Really hoping he teaches my next math classes!
Super crystal clear, will explain until everyone understands, answers any questions, quizzes are open book/notes/neighbors, gives time in class for some homework, grades fairly, best math teacher I've taken at Moorpark.
Thanks to Daniel Rubinstein, I now know that the best flapjacks are in Canada. A real memer. He grades harshly, don't let his approachable personality confuse you. Besides that, I think I would give him a meme out of meme. Very dank proffessor.
The best math teacher I've ever had in my school career. Articulate, extremely smart, and very funny. He explains everything so clearly and will work with anyone to help them understand. Moves at a decent pace and plan on taking him for future math courses.
If you are good at math you will do fine. If you struggle do not take him. Very matter of fact. Does not explain. Just goes through the motions. Tests are outrageously hard. Doesnt answer your questions just leaves you with more. Not a bad guy just a horrible teacher. I had to get a tutor. Started out with a full class plus 12 extras & down to 12
Wow! I never considered myself a math person, but having a teacher like Rubinstein has completely changed that. He is completely open to questions, very clearly reviews homework, and never pokes fun when a student needs help. Yes, there is a lot of homework, but it's needed. I went from undecided major to a math major partly from loving this class!
Professor Rubinstein is the most helpful and understanding professor I've ever come across, he explains everything in great detail using the appropriate mathematical terms, he is very straightforward and is always ready to help even though the question are from a different math class. Math required extreme patience and practice, do that and you'll fly through the class with flying colors.
Daniel is possibly one of my favorite math teachers. I took this course as a refresher and by the time I left I felt very comfortable with the material we had discussed. He is always very helpful and kind when being asked questions.
If you're good in math, you'll probably do just fine in his class. For the rest of us, go ahead & probably skip out on Professor Rubinstein. Extremely straightforward in his teaching methods, yet also very monotone & fast paced. He's a mathematical genius, & I guess he has trouble hiding it sometimes. Really nice guy, just too hard of a class.
Do not take him for linear algebra. It will be the biggest mistake you ever made. Maybe don't even take him for any math class, honestly.
Professor Rubinstein is an amazing lecturer and teacher. He certainly won't give you the grade but he will give you all the resources to get the grade you want. He explains complicated topics well and is willing to help at office hours. WORK ON PROOFS THE WHOLE SEMESTER. The computation, while very important, is generally far easier.
If you do great in Rubinstein's linear class it's not because he is a great teacher. It's because youre an exceptional student. If you are average or slightly above he will not help you get better. He will slowly drive you into the ground with material he is not even required by the state of CA to cover & he does this for himself, not for you.
I took this class with the person below and did pass with a B but I know the effort to earn it far surpasses what I received. Its supposed to be a 3 credit hour class. I could have done much better in my other classes, learned just as much linear, and gotten an A if I'd taken it with someone else. This is supposed to be an intro class.
I love Rubinstein, I may be an outlier but his class was enjoyable as it was difficult. Linear Algebra to me was one of the more satisfying math subjects. If you share a passion for the class and math, Rubinstein might be for you. However if it just another class you have to take, beware. You will not like the class as you can see from below me.
Very helpful teacher! He helps if you need. If you put the effort, he will out the effort to help you
He is dedicated to helping you during his office hours. The hard part is.. you can do the homework over and over but never be prepared for the tests. The tests are extremely difficult. It is really hard to prepare for the tests because they are not similar to the homework problems.
Not the best professor to take if you're expecting to learn introductory level Calculus. Your grade is heavily based on the tests/final and they require a lot of conceptual thinking outside the homework. Professor Rubinstein teaches as if the entire class is majoring in math. He made the class much harder than it needed to be.
Had to take him because of my schedule even though I knew it was gonna be awful cause I had him for algebra and it was also awful
Hands down the most intelligent professor at Moorpark, and I could take him for d.e an calc 3. He is truly brilliant and is more than willing to help you understand the concept. He does like to get really conceptual but in high level maths that should be expected.
He is an actual genius, never teaches out of the book, comes up with proofs and examples on the spot and writes them directly on the board. He is very accessible in his office, but be ready to WORK. Class is 10/10 difficult, but he will do everything he can (and he can do a lot) to help you learn if you're willing to take the time and ask for help.
Prof is very smart but isn't a great teacher. He expects too much from intro students. Proofs are expected from day 1 and they play a big role in your grade. Tests are difficult. The homework doesn't help. Gives NO feedback in class. Office hours are a must. If this is your only class you might be able to devote enough time to get an A. My first B.
Professor Rubinstein is an absolutely amazing teacher. If you are have a career in mathematics, engineering, or related fields, you need to take Daniel Rubinstein's class. He will not only teach you how to master Calculus II, but how to think in a completely new way. However, you should be ready to put in the work. And use office hours!
He's a decently nice guy, but even if you're good at math, this class will be very difficult. You really have to study and and do the homework to get a passing grade. Also, don't skip class or you will get very far behind. Only take if you're up for a challenge or to make this class #1 priority.
More students have withdrawn from this class than any class Ive taken so far. It is a suprise that with all the students leaving moorpark to take linear at another college, that moorpark, for years has failed to get another instructor for this subject (and no, curtis paul does not count). A great intellectual, not a great teacher.
His lectures are great because he teaches in a uniquely specific way that can often be much easier than methods suggested in the textbook. However, he goes very quickly and you must follow and take notes to stay caught up to the class. Class grade is determined by 4 incredulously difficult tests and a final. Good luck, I highly recommend his class.
Daniel Rubinstein is not the world's most compassionate man. That being said, I can not say that he did not make his expectations clear. The scope of the Intro Linear Algebra class makes it very fast paced. HIGHLY recommend the T/F questions at the end of the chapters, and reading before class. Good Luck!
Here's the thing, don't take this professor if you aren't an engineering/math major. This goes above and beyond what you actually need to know if you aren't going into the math and science fields. However, as an engineering major, I can't stress enough how incredibly helpful this class was to solidify and improve my math skills. Amazing guy.
Nice guy but I hated him so much as a professor. Minimal effort will MAYBE get you a C, Bs are hard work, and As are for geniuses. One thing I really hated was the fact that we didn't know our standing in the class until final grades came out. Re-do all of the tests and go to office hours. Cried once during a test. Got a B, ruined my transcript.
Had him for M03. Reviews homework with class at the beginning of class but doesn't check. Amazing professor. Would take again. Chill vibe. Chili Pepper. No online. Used the white board. Take notes. He is there to help you. Ask for help if you get lost. Doesn't check attendance but it's best to go to every class so you don't fall behind.
Such a great lecturer. I had him for lines algebra and his lectures help you understand an otherwise difficult subject. His class is not easy, but that is expected. If you've been getting good grades without doing work, that ends here. He is a wonderful professor and only good students will succeed.
I'm a textbook reader. I study the examples given in the textbook and work out tough problems and review his notes. Still on the test(that consist of 7-9 free response) about half of the problems are insanely difficult and 1-2 of those problems, you will not understand how to even start. If you are good with reading the book, take Diana.
Good luck lol
Professor Rubinstein is an amazing professor who should be teaching at a place like Princeton, but impressively he is teaching at Moorpark College. I am extremely grateful to have had him for Linear Algebra; thanks to him I have not struggled at all in Quantum Mechanics nor Special Relativity...
To not just learn computation but also conceptual understanding, Rubinstein is excellent. Plan to study an additional 5 hours per week studying for his class compared to other profs. I recommend him to those who are in STEM. Please: DO THE T/F QUESTIONS AT THE END OF THE PROBLEM SETS Read the book Study his in class examples Enjoy his jokes :)
Dont take his class. He goes through at least 3 lessons a day and makes it impossible to stay focused. Very boring class and hard to get a good grade on test. Wouldnt recommend especially since theres no credit received for his class.
He is good at lecturing but when it comes to testing, it makes no sense at all. His grading system makes no sense at all. If you are truly into math, then you can take his class, other than that, please save yourself. He is not the best teacher.
Literally won't do anything to help you, don't take him. No mercy grader, gives impossible questions on tests, extremely fake, doesn't care about you, makes you very depressed, horrible explainer, has caused kids to break down in tears because of his class He does not deserve to teach, why do you think his class is the absolute last to fill up? lol
I bet all of the good comments especially the highlighted one are actually him trying to make himself feel better and lure you into his class so he can fail you.
Not the best, not the worst. Good at explaining things, but a tough grader. Seems rather closed-off.
You either come into his classes expecting a tough time or you will drop halfway through. You learn a lot as he is a great lecturer who is very dedicated on this subject. People are afraid of his courses because he is very difficult and his tests are hard. However, there is a curve and I have a hunch he secretly ups your grade after the final.
He treats you as if you were a math major and this was the only class you were taking. Expects you to do homework from the book but introduces concepts not in the book with only a brief explanation and one example. He never mentions those concepts again and they show up in tests. Don't even take this class at Moorpark, take it somewhere else.
This professor is an absolute genius, he does proofs of mathematics that almost seem like another language is being taught. Great professor, just make sure you dedicate at least your whole weekend to this class, because you'll need it. Does NOT give out homework, you are responsible. Definitely a challenge I was not ready for. Genius, absolutely.
Provides the bear minimum for examples so when the test or quiz does come you have no clue how to do a complex version a problem from the lesson. Most material on the test he has never taught and even reading the book doesnt help. I took this class because I had a bad Precalc teacher in hs but Ive been left more confused and pretty much screwed.
Smart guy. Doesn't matter because he's a terrible teacher. Gives the bare minimum on examples so on quizzes and tests you have no clue what to do for the more complex problems. Lectures on topics outside the book so reading doesn't help. No quiz or test solutions. Every math concept that's ever been shoved down your throat is gonna be regurgitated.
A genius. He knew I'm a math major. He knew that this was the only class I was taking this semester. He knew that I could spend 24/7 focusing on his class and nothing else. He knew that writing down notes without explaining any of it would be fine. He knew that ignoring the book and testing you on material not in the book would be completely okay.
Great teacher, super smart guy and is willing to help you outside of class in office hours. Lectures are only a little dry because everyone stays on mute and never answer's the professor's questions. It's like he's talking into an abyss. Besides that, the lectures are very organized & useful. If you could wait to take this class on campus I would.
worst prof ever. gives 2.5 hour zoom lessons only to provide examples that will not be on tests/quizzes with mediocre explanations. I studied HARD for his tests/quizzes using the notes that he provided. no help at all. tests were very difficult and had material that he had never taught. had to drop the class. save yourself, don't take this prof!!!!
Prof. Rubinstein's class was very difficult. To succeed, you will need to learn a lot of the material on your own and do the homework in the book. He will not hold your hand. Do not take this course if you want an easy A. However if you manage to make it through the course, you will have learned a lot and will be a much better math student.
You will learn a lot from this professor's lectures. This is an excellent class for STEM and economics students. I would take him next semester if he was teaching Calc 3. Homework is not collected, but you will need to do a lot of exercises from the book if you want more than a passing grade. 5% 10 quizzes, 5% discussions, 60% 5 tests, 30% final.
This was the most difficult class I took at Moorpark. Professor Rubinstein is a very smart and polite man, but this class is simply needlessly difficult. Lectures often extensively cover subjects that are never tested, and subjects that were barely covered often show up on tests. These tests also gave little time to complete many complex problems.
Probably the worst math professor/teacher I have ever had. Super harsh grader, no feedback at all on anything at all, and if you're A-synchronous forget about getting an A in this class. Switch Professors ASAP.
Terrible Professor! Doesn't teach and relies us to read the book and watch YouTube videos. The quizzes and tests are 1000% more difficult than the book problems. Save yourself and don't take him, your mental health will thank you.
In only half a semester, I had taken over 100 pages of notes. Tests had absolutely nothing to do with what he taught, were needlessly difficult, and under a strict time limit. The only time he even showed any emotion was when he was bragging about how difficult his problems were. The absolute worst professor I've ever met.
Impossible. I know people say Professor Rubinstein is a genius at math. Well, he's not a genius at teaching math. Unless you can read a math textbook and understand everything perfectly, don't take Professor Rubinstein's classes. No lectures. No help. His online classes are an extended credit by examination experience. No instruction involved.
do not take this class. when i say this is hard, IT IS HARD. i am not a stupid student but taking his class made me feel ridiculously dumb. he speaks too fast and expects you to understand. NO CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED. not on a test, quiz, or even during lectures. if you cant do simple math, choose a different professor. please save yourself.
I took him for 1 week and dropped his class so quick. He goes over the material so fast and doesnt give you a chance to process whats going on so if youre a really fast pace learner this is the teacher for you but if you need to take time to process with your learning dont take him. He expects you to know how to do everything in your head. NO
Daniel Rubinstein was incredibly difficult. The first day of class he dove right into teaching and expected us to understand everything. HE TEACHES TOO FAST. About half of my class dropped the first week. A lot of this is self teaching, so sitting in his lectures only waste your time. Good luck learning half of what hes teaching. Drop him.
Please do believe all the ratings on here. I really tried to keep up with his fast pace and long lectures. Attending is basically useless because he just goes over the book. Just to give you an idea of the type of professor he is he began the book the first day. Avoid and pick any other professor.
-Extremely fast pace teacher - Lots of notes
I highly recommend taking anyone else. Tests and the final count for 90% of the grade, and the tests/final are incredibly hard and nothing like the textbook. The entire course is self-taught and he does not go easy on anyone. No extra credit or any other forms of help. Save yourself some mental health and a drop in GPA.
People claim this man is such a genius when in reality he just takes basic concepts and turns them into the most convoluted lessons. You're not a genius for just knowing your specialty, and then explaining it in a pretentious, confusing way that no one can follow. There is a reason even the counselors advise you to take this class at Ventura.
lmao not much to say
Dropped the class after a week. The entire class consists of very fast paced note taking, way too fast to follow along, especially when he makes the lessons much more confusing. He also expects everyone to be a complete math whiz who already knows everything. If you are anything less than a math genius, I strongly recommend avoiding this teacher.
Professor Rubinstein is the worst professor I've ever had in college. He purposely makes his class confusing and has the mentality that you'll teach yourself which doesn't work for linear. I have a 4.0 GPA after a year and a half of engineering and other STEM classes (including another linear algebra) and I was entirely lost after two weeks.
Not too bad, just know what you are getting into. Pros: No homework to turn in. Cons: Lectures are relatively overcomplicated and fast-paced which makes them hard to follow, The course grade is based on 4 tests. Tips for success: Be disciplined and do the recommended amount of bookwork, Study the lecture material before the lecture.
Very smart, but a dogwater teacher. Ever wanted to take a class that's already difficult and make it unnecessarily more difficult for no reason? Daniel's your guy. Extremely fast-paced lectures with convoluted explanations for everything. More often than not, he'll introduce a concept for 5 seconds and then it'll show up on the test. Never take him
He fails at what an instructor should primarily be good at, TEACHING. Lectures only on easy concepts. We struggle to understand the material due to his inability to explain hard topics. HIGH discrepancy between lectures, homework, and tests. Tests deviate significantly from what is taught. Omits crucial information until it appears on the test.
Professor Rubinstein is an extremely effective teacher and lecturer. Even though he is forced to go through material fast throughout the semester, he conveys it in an extremely effective manner. His tests are extremely difficult and require an extreme amount of studying, but they are manageable. His class is difficult but will teach you a lot.
Great professor! Matches lowest score to the final.
A very wholesome professor: kind and calm. Passively funny and very helpful. Teaches at a very followable pace and stops frequently to double check for understanding. Very good at helping students understand problems as well as their mistakes. Grade only reliant on tests but tests are relatively easy.
Positives: Very good at teaching, Funny, Really good person in general Negatives: Your grade is solely based on your test scores, no homework grades or anything His tests are pretty challenging But if you do the homework and study outside of class, you'll probably be fine
Grade is on me, not him. Have crippling anxiety/can't go to office hours? Suffer. Miniscule EC, grades on a few exams, and canvas is a barren wasteland. But, lectures are cool+he's funny/kind. I wish class was 2 sems; the content in a sem's rough. Basically: TALK TO HIM EARLY ON! Want a fascinating course? Your guy! Just cruising through? Don't
He is nice, incredibly smart, and really funny. He seems intimidating because he is so smart but I never felt judged by him even when asking the simplest questions. The hw was useless after the first exam and understanding the notes and examples was more helpful. I wouldn't recommend Rubinstein unless you are a math major or love learning math.
Lectures are engaging, but the class is brutally difficult. Attend every session, read the textbook, and utilize Unstuck AI for extra practice - it really helped me stay afloat. Not the easiest A, but worth it if you want a challenge.
If you struggle with math I don't recommend taking his class. First day you're immediately taking notes and his lectures are fast paced & got a bit complicated. He's a super cool guy but his way of teaching just didn't work for me. Lots of note taking and quizzes are kinda difficult. If the last math class you took was in HS - be prepared to learn
I loved this class! i've taken two other math courses but they were too fast paced and difficult. prof rubinstein does a great job at explaining everything and I never feel too stupid to ask a question. you just have to put in the work. if he sees you're trying, he's very kind and generous with your test scores. still a hard class though!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! There is no homework so the only thing going into your grade is test, and if you struggle doing math without a calculator don't take and if you miss one day of class be prepared to complete miss a lesson
Professor Rubinstein is the most mathematically oriented person I have ever met and his passion manifests in his care towards his students. He is more than willing to explain any questions that arise throughout the lectures and very accessible through office hours. His classes are really difficult but have a lot of substance and quality.
I had the pleasure of taking Differential Equations with Professor Rubinstein for the 2025 fall semester and I have to say that he is nothing short of amazing. He deeply cares about students and holds them to a standard which I find lacking in a lot of classes I have taken. If you want to be good at math, this is the professor to take.
