He has the best lectures! If you like Art Hitory then you'll really enjoy his class. He likes opinioned people to speak out during class which make group discussion a lot of fun. This professor is not approachable and makes his tests insanely difficult. You have to study for hours because each test was 8 chapters in the book. Its way too much material covered in a VERY POOR teaching style. Not an easy A and not worth taking. Dont let this professor drop your GPA!!!

Professor Sachs is incredibly knowledgeable and a pretty nice, fair guy. However, if you have ADHD (like forreal) don't take him. Just don't. His lectures can be very dull. I have ADHD and I prefer classes where I can write notes from the projector but he just puts up images and talks the whole time which is just not for me. He also rambles a bit

Dr. Sachs is a great guy, hilarious, entertaining. I actually remember the things he tells me because he makes the class so fun, but he grades pretty hard on the paper. Victorian ARH was set up as a seminar class, so you only have participation, one 8 page paper, and a presentation as your grade. Beware if you don't write or speak well.

was really excited to take him, since Id only heard positive things about him, but hes been a complete disappointment. he definitely knows his stuff which is great and all, but he bashes other peoples political AND religious beliefs to get point across. He has a big ego. Sometimes he cancels class w/o telling us ahead. hes an impossible grader

He is so full of himself that he put himself in the lectures and on an exam. He passes around a sign-in sheet every class. There are only four exams, but there are also about four 1-2 page papers. His tests are 40 question image identifications. He shows the slides, and give you multiple choice answers on which artist produced it.

Sign-in sheet every class; four exams, but there's a 8-10 page paper due at the end of the semester on one work of art; Tests are 20 question image identifications (year, medium, artist, title), about 20 difficult multiple choice questions, and an essay. He wants you to fail and thinks he's the smartest and best. PPT on D2L, only images, no notes.

Something he told us at the beginning of the course was to never stress about his class. This is true! He will constantly give us extra time before the test if we aren't ready for it. His lecture are very audio only (not much visual notes) so you must be in class to get the information. If you pay attention you will get at least a B.

One of the worst classes I've ever taken, horribly unorganized, doesn't respond to emails for 2 weeks, ignores student's concerns, confusing grading on discussions, poorly designed quizzes and tests, I'm sure he would be alright in person but for the love of God do not take him online. He doesn't set anything up correctly & is confusing.

He was teaching in Paris most of my Semester so our class received very little attention. I've enjoyed all my art history classes so far and received an A in all of them until this one. He dead named students, was slow to answer emails, messed up a study guide causing students to do poorly on a test and didn't care. I would avoid this professor.

Very nice guy, knows ALOT. Like if you care about art at all he's such a great lecturer to have. Made me care a bunch about the art I was learning about so it made the class enjoyable. He is particular though, so know what he's looking for in assignments but he's always willing to tell you. Ask questions, pay attention, and the assignments are easy

Highly recommend, tests were all identifying the artist to the art (use google images), quizzes are based off of just paying attention in class, and no webcam for both. attendance isnt graded, hes passionate about what he talks about and understands us being interested on listening is more important.

He has some really dated political opinions so be cognizant of that when choosing to take him for this class. Also, if you have ADHD or any other attention span issues this isn't the class for you, he has an entirely auditory teaching style and doesn't do much to accommodate those who learn differently.

He is a good professor and very knowledgeable about art history, but he's also very old fashioned. His class is entirely lecture based with no online notes, so if you don't come to class you have no way of knowing necessary information. He's also a strictly auditory professor, all the notes come from him talking.

The class was not too difficult or demanding beyond what I expected from a May-mester, but the professor is too old-fashioned. Showed no respect, sympathy, or care when I felt sick/dizzy from the required heavy metals used for the paintings. Don't take this class if you care for not getting potential lead/cobalt poisoning!

Took this class for study abroad over the summer and immediately regretted it. In the lectures he is constantly repeating himself. The lectures are pretty much pointless in the grand scheme of the class. Did not grade papers on content, only nitpicked your writing style. Had to do a pencil drawing. He knew we were not artists and graded unfairly.

Prof Sachs is retiring this year and thank god for it. He was extremely rude and stubborn and was very inaccessible outside of class. He is not very tech savvy and messed up multiple exams/assignments in D2L and refused to fix them. He made it very clear he did not care. He "accidentally" locked our entire course right before finals! Good riddance!
