awesome discussion sections!!! very funny...I laughed my butt off every Friday!!! best t.a. i've had at AZ.
Best TA i've ever had
Daniel is by far the best ta that I have ever had! He should have taught the whole course and not just the discussion section. I stopped going to the lectures completely and just went to Friday discussions. Daniel is great at making the material understandable, fun, and interesting. If you have to take a trad/indv course, check this guy out!
WOW! Where to begin? Daniel made philosophy fun and exciting. I normally struggle to go to classes on Fridays, but this class was an exception. Every week, he made the material exciting and fun. Just don't ask him about Panda Express!!! :) JK. Seriously, I don't know how I would have made it through the lectures without him.
Amazing TA. He gives great examples that help so much and he does revieiws that go over every test question. He's a great TA and comes very highly recommended
This TA wasn't even mine but he was great! My TA was worthless and didn't so I went to Daniel's review for the final and I think I learned more in those two hours than I did the entire semester with my crappy TA. Try to get him, he makes jokes and is able to clear up something as dry as this subject is.
This guy is awesome plain and simple. He helps you understand the material while making chirstopher walken and bill cosby jokes.
just listen to all of the great comments that have been posted so far!!! Daniel is the BEST TEACHER I have ever had all of my life. Normally I skip all of my Friday discussions if there is no quiz. But Daniel's discussions are so clear, informative, useful (not to mention HILARIOUS) that I didn't miss a single one. he's the best. Period.
He is just an amazing TA. If you get him, it is your lucky day (as he informs you on the first day). He is extremely smart and makes the material crystal clear. I liked philosophy already, but he made it extremely fun. He gives amazing study-guides that none of the other TA's handed out. Holds review sessions & has a fantastic sense of humor too!
By far the most amazing teacher I have ever had! HIs ability to entertain, teach and inspire makes me jealous! I may even have converted my major to philosophy because of his one friday course!
Best TA ever!!!! Maloney should be fired and Daniel should be teaching the class. Not to mention his one lecture he gave during the entire semester in Maloney's class, was the only one worth going to. It was the only lecture that the students actually understood. Thanks Daniel
Dan is the best TA ever!!!! He helps understand the class and is willing to help the students. He grades fairly and gives you the grade you deserve. I definitely recommend him.
Daniel asked us to think about why we were going to college, what we were going to do with our lives, why we should think about the enormity of life in the little time we have on this earth, and the meaning of death. He did this all on the first day. I've never met a teacher at this University who actually knew my name, let alone facts about my
Great TA - he always put things in perspective (ie what are you going to do in life?) . I still think about all the great stories he told in class.
Daniel is one of the BEST TAs I could get. Not only did he make learning about philosophy fun, he also added his own twist into it. He is a great TA and he knows what he's talking about. I loved the class and I loved the subject after. Go to the review sessions, they really help.
Daniel Sanderman is in my opinion the best teacher/TA in Arizona. Sandermania!
Best TA I have ever had.
Sanderman as a professor is very good he makes a good honest effort to make fun out of a ridiculously boring and cumbersome subject of ancient philosophy, you can tell Sanderman truly cares for the subject, is very friendly, and knows everything that one would need to ever know, Course is no cake-walk keep that in mind
Philosophy is one of those subjects that doesn't really have much use in the real world outside its department. Dan does his best to make the course interesting, and so it is very entertaining to come to lecture. That being said, the tests are ambiguous and involve random, pointless details. Avg scores on the exams are around 62%, but they curve.
GREATEST TA EVER! Love his Katy Perry jokes, made the class super fun! probably one of the best teachers ive had at the u of a so far.
He's really funny, the Katy Perry jokes get me every time! Class is always interesting and fun.
Do NOT take this class if you want an easy A. The class forces mandatory attendance because the only real way to raise your grade is to go to receive extra credit. Slides are sometimes ambiguous and the class average on tests was in the 60's. I just wish this guy was as helpful as he thinks he is. The questions on tests are borderline unfair.
Very fun class. If you go to class you'll get an A. If you don't go, you're an idiot and you will not do well. Tests are pretty much always curved.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get a ton of extra credit(based on questions that are from assigned readings) if you go to class. The readings are horribly boring, but it helps to skim through them prior to class. Ppts are posted to D2L. Go to class, skim the readings, and pay attention and you'll get an A/B. Plus, Daniel is awesome & funny.
Pretty fun class. I mean, there's overflowing extra credit, which is awesome. Not too shabby at all! He should be the one teaching the class next semester.
Daniel means well and is a good lecturer but in the end, the class material is boring and he spices lectures up by joking around but it still taking notes every single day of the semester. The tests absolutely suck and the questions are next to impossible. I came out with a B even after getting a D, C, and another C on the three tests.
Daniel really thinks he's the best philosophy teacher since Aristotle. It's a shame his tests don't reflect that. Class avg for tests/quizzes in the 60's, slides are at times unclear, and attendance is mandatory. I only got an A by working with other people, going to class and studying extremely hard for tests. Not an easy gen ed though.
The information itself is a bit bland, but Daniel made it interesting. If you don't go to class and don't read, you will not do well on tests. Test averages are pretty low, but all of them were curved. Extra credit everyday just for showing up. Easy A+.
Daniel is the best teacher of all grad students that I have encountered. He likes to teach, he is well prepared, and he is fun. The material of the course, however, is hard, and if you don't study, you won't do great anyway...
He means well, but has unrealistic expectations.By far the most difficult gen ed/ online class I've taken. Class average is very low and the changes made to "help" are not helpful. His response to a concern about material being available was that I drop the class. I would discourage anyone from taking any sort of class hes teaching.
This was an online class Mind Matter and God. This is by far the hardest online class I have ever taken. The dude could care less about how much readings he posts and he thinks we should love Phil as much as him. I can never access the website and when I asked him why he told me also to drop the class. I hate this class so much. tests are very hard
The good: he works very hard and is enthusiastic. Students from his other classes seem to love him. The bad is that his MMG class is ridiculously hard and he has stated that students SHOULD get Cs. Quiz questions don't always come from readings. I am a senior with a 3.9 GPA. I expect a C or D here. His goal of "realistic grades" is screwing me
Do NOT take Mind, Matter, and God online. I studied three hours every for an entire week and still received a D on a quiz. Some of the readings take up to 7 hours and you have to read it at least three times in order to receive a reasonable grade. I am a straight A student and this class is killing me!
Most well put together class I've taken at UA. I'm a senior w/ only a 2.8 GPA & have taken many online classes but this has far exceeded any others. Exams can be tough but are fair & designed exactly as they should be for online assessments. Not an "easy A" but he definitely gives you everything you need to do well,& his course website is a godsend.
He is very nice, but his Mind Matter & God class is ridiculously hard! The questions have nothing to do with the massive amounts of assigned reading. The topics are easy enough but his tests and quizzes are extremely difficult.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The reading amount is RIDICULOUS! In addition to the required units there is an additional 12-15 hours of different writings by philosophers. The tests are really irrelevant to the reading you do. Its really time consuming and difficult. Unless philosophy really intrigues you, dont take it.
I don't know why people are still posting those things. True, it used to be pretty challenging but he revamped the ENTIRE course in response to people's complaints. He completely removed several units, cut down on the readings (and annotated them) and the tests are extremely easy now (among many other improvements). Definitely worth taking.
Couldn't meet with him for help. Tests were not based on assigned readings.
Took the class as an online class. Daniel did an excellent job on a website for the class that contained all of the course content. You could schedule the class so that it would fit your schedule. Daniel is very knowledgable, and very passionate about the subject and he shows. One of the few professors that wants to see his students succeed.
Website has improved a bunch and so has the online mind matter and god course! he is a great guy and curves every quiz and test. you have plenty of time to do the readings and it is a good course.
Awful.
The class is at your own pace so that is good and makes it easier except you have to read everything. Weekly quizzes that are kind of challenging. As long as you read everything and do well on the quizzes you will be fine. Don't procrastinate. Some of the quizzes have some tricky questions, even if you did read.
I took his class online. It was easy but at the same time hard. It's a lot of reading that he recommends you space out through out the week. I honestly did it all at once because it's easier for me to remember. The tests are kinda hard because there is so much material covered but the class in really interesting. Take it if you can out in the time.
Took this class online, and was the easiest class I took all semester. As long as you skim the readings you will be fine. Plus, there isnt even that much. This is a college class. The quizzes are pretty much straight forward. He drops your lowest test and 2 quiz grade, and he curves the tests. Would take this class next semester if I could
His online Class is way to hard if you are a philosophy major or really into it you'll probably do well in this class but other than that its a struggle with the quizes and exams
This class is easy. 4 tests (lowest dropped) 12 quizzes (2 lowest dropped) 1 content summary (600 word paper). He curves the tests and sometimes the quizzes. You can earn up to 30 extra credit points. As long as you skim the readings each week and take a few notes on them, and have the readings open while you're taking the tests its easy.
Awesome class! Great teacher, he doesn't babble like you would think a Phil professor would, he puts things in perfect English. If you take PHIL322, take extra notes on deontology.
A very interesting class, but it's philosophy -- it's not clear-cut. Take good notes and really digest the information. He gets quiz and test grades back very quickly, and he can be generous with points. Sometimes he's really difficult though. He uses poor grammar/punctuation in some questions so they can be SUPER ambiguous/tricky.
HATED THIS CLASS. Online philosophy puts me to sleep. Do the readings and you'll get an A. I put a minimal amount go work into this class and got a B. Super easy, super boring - unless you like philosophy. Four exams, 12 quizzes (one each week), one content summary, extra credit is available.
I took the online version of the course; Sanderman uses a website in lieu of a textbook, which I found really great. It was easy to access, and he was prompt with emails. The material, however, was so boring unless you really like philosophy. It was an easy A with little effort on my part. Extra credit is recommended if you're borderline!
So easy!!! I took the class online and there is no textbook which is great! The subject matter was boring and I really didn't try at all and I got a good grade! Great GPA booster! Highly recommended to take this online cause it is effortless when you don't have to go to class! Great teacher cause he summarizes the readings well. Take this class!!!
The questions on his quizzes and tests had NOTHING TO DO with the material we were covering every week, it was all on 2 philosophers that we weren't even supposed to read. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Class is way harder than in previous semesters. It is based off a weekly quiz, three tests and a paper. The quizzes aren't bad, the tests are pretty hard and talk about irrelevant info, and i can't tell you about the paper because it's been a month and a half and still isn't graded....don't take this class IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ECON
Took Mind, Matter, and God with him online! Don't do it.. ridiculous amount of reading and the tests are timed and pretty difficult. If you want to take this class, take it in person...I hear it is easier.
I thought the class was pretty straight-forward and easy if you did the readings. There is only one essay, and then a quiz each week. My biggest issue with him is that it took him over 2 months to grade our essays! He was going through some family issues (which I heard has happened in past semesters, too), but it was still very frustrating.
Easy class, useless teacher.
This class was fairly interesting at first, and then became less and less. Towards the end there was an awful amount of reading. All of the tests were timed, as well as the quizzes. However your lowest 2 quizzes and 1 test grade is dropped. Main points: there is LOT of reading.Take good notes to use on tests/quizzes. Grades the essay pretty harshly
I took this class and there was a fair amount of reading but his writing style made it less boring. I would do all the reading the day of the quizzes and did fine. The essay did take a long time to get graded but if you have a clear understanding of the topic, you will get a good grade. I am horrible at writing but got anA on the essay.
There's no textbook, you pay to use the external website which is excellent. I'm usually not a reader, but the only way to do well in this course is to read the material online. There are conceptual questions so you can't get away with looking up the answers most of the time. The writing is very enjoyable though and I found myself more interested.
I took this class as a GPA booster and it ended up being harder than expected. A lot of reading but the assignments are pretty fair for the most part. Great teacher. He had us take a survey on what we liked/disliked about the class, an afterwards he actually read through them and made changes based on wha we said which was great.
Awful class! Hardest tests even if you study and take notes. DO NOT TAKE.
He is super unclear and his quizzes and tests are so open ended its hard to really understand what he is looking for. If your interested in a semester of confusion, unclear guidance, and a guy that is full of himself, feel free to sign up.
Do not take online. Sanderman is helpful over video but other than that the course material is very confusing. He talks in a round about way and doesn't make clear points. The outside reading is not helpful and is hard to read, as well as very boring. He takes 3 months to grade a paper. Not organized. Do not take or take in person.
I'm not sure what the other commenter went through, but this was an easy online course. All the readings were straight forward, and the quizzes and exams taking straight from the course material. My exam was graded within a couple weeks, but mileage may vary as he doesn't have a TA. Definitely recommended.
He's great! Super clear. The quizzes and tests can be tricky, but read his notes and really understand and you'll be fine. He makes it interesting.
This class is run by a useless teacher who does nothing. The class could literally be run via the super tricky exams and confusing lecture slides. Everything he explains is completely unclear and runs in circles. If you are looking for a gen ed, do not take this class unless you're interested in an instructor who is into himself and his lame site.
At first, his lectures were confusing, long, boring, and definitely not straightforward. But, he was very open to student's opinions and ended up reconstructing the class mid semester to correct some problems. By the end, his lectures were great and I was enjoying the class. His tests & quizzes are tricky. Overall, the material is very interesting.
This class was so easy in regards to the amount of homework and quizzes. The exams can be a bit tricky at times but what else can you expect in an upper division class??
There is a quiz every week and 4 exams, 2 quizzes get dropped and 1 exam. The new set-up has a lot of extra material - videos, readings, links, etc. - that are helpful along with the actual material. He's a pretty easy grader, and the 2 attempts on quizzes are very helpful. As long as you do the readings, take notes, and study, you'll do fine.
4 exams, lowest non-zero score gets dropped. Very easy online class to get your ethics requirement.
Course is very straightforward and easy to follow. Readings are interesting and pertinent. Consists of weekly quizzes from the readings with 2 lowest ones dropped. 4 exams based exactly off the quizzes with the lowest 1 dropped. Very easy to succeed if you just keep up.
This class is nice b/c there is no textbook required. Sanderman has created his own website with the info and interactive videos/pictures. The course is pretty straight forward as are the quiz questions. The essay is graded pretty harshly for a gen ed but he drops two quiz scores and an exam score. You can't see your exams unless you Skype him.
This class was very well done. The website was really easy to navigate. I also enjoyed the pop culture references which helped make the course entertaining. I felt that the Professor gives you everything you need to get an A. There is a few tough readings (it is philosophy) but as long as you schedule enough time you will be fine. Enjoy!
awful class. don't take
Sanderman is awesome! This is the second class I have taken with him. He has short quizzes every week (but you have 2 attempts per quiz!) There are NO essays to write, just quizzes and exams. Easy A. I'm a senior and his classes have been my favorite and easiest classes since attending the UofA! Take his classes people!!!!!!!!!!!!
This class is pretty straight forward. There are weekly quizzes with two attempts, the two lowest scores are dropped. There are 4 exams with the lowest one dropped and no final. This class is easy if you put in the work. Don't take this class if you think it is just another easy online where you don't have to try. But if you try you will get an A.
Readings didn't take too long, but there were a lot of them. Easy EC surveys worth 5 pts each. The quizzes were straightforward and you have enough time to search through the readings to find the answers (taking notes on the readings is helpful but not necessary) ctrl+F BFF. The majority of test q's came from previous quizzes. NO final!
An easy online class. One quiz per week, you get to chances to take each, and he excepts the highest grade. Only like 3 or 4 tests and they come mostly from the quizzes. No other homework or projects. Pretty easy and I learned a lot
Quizzes once per week that are super easy. 10 total, and he drops 2. There are 3 test that are brutally hard for some reason. Even after doing all the readings I managed to barely pass the test. Overall really easy B, you'll have to work for an A.
easiest class I've taken in U of A. It's really hard NOT to get A on quiz. Everything is in the reading. I spent like 30min to do the reading and 5min to do the quiz every WEEK and that's it. Exams are easy as well, many of them are from the quiz.
Took all PHIL 160D2, 322, and 323 all in the same semester online. Dan is really funny and his notes and quizzes show that. He gets back to you quickly and helps you out if you need it. Quizzes are easy, two lowest are dropped. 160D2 had one essay but it was easy. 20 EC points for doing surveys, one mid-semester and one at the end. Loved him!
Very easy class. Definitely need to do the reading (or at least have the pdf up while taking the quiz). 10 quizzes, 3 tests (all online) and two surveys throughout the semester, both of which are for extra credit.
I took the online Environmental Ethics class looking for a gpa booster and that's exactly what I got. Sure you have to do the readings but they are fairly straightforward and the testsquizzes were easy. You have enough time to skim through the book while taking them. He gives extra credit which is very helpful in maintaining an A. Also a great guy
Daniel Sanderman is a wonderful professor. I've took all of his classes at UofA that I could.
Read a few online lectures and then take an online test pertaining to the material. Very straightforward and easy. You learn without even feeling like youre learning.
Excellent materials and very fast response times.
160D is super easy basically have to do twenty minutes of reading a week and then a quiz for five minutes. The test questions can definitely be a little tricky, and the class average is solid B, even with the curve he adds. I'd definitely take the class again, but if you're not into philosophy i'm sure the readings are annoying.
This class was pretty easy; if you do the readings and try on your essay then you should get an A. He is a very very kind and caring person. He gives great feedback and reaches out to students and truly cares about you personally and academically. I would definitely recommend him.
Extremely easy class if you just do the readings and quizzes. Little work required, instructor is very helpful if you need it. Hardest part is remembering to take the tests.
Very straight forward class. Read online notes and take a quiz. Only assigns one essay and 2 exams. He responds to emails quickly and provides feed back on both essay and exams. Would recommend to gain general ed credits.
I was pleasantly surprised by his involvement in his online classes. I have had him fro two online classes now and he always gives VERY detailed feedback and encouragement. For some papers, I swear he wrote another paper of his own just talking about my paper. His class is very straight forward. As long as you do the readings you should be fine!
Sanderman is a homie. He actually cares about his students success and is totally willing to help you. His expectations are crystal clear from the beginning and the class is sooo easy, totally a GPA booster. I definately recommend this gen ed.
Easy class. Quizzes are weekly which make up most of your grade. Tests are based on quizzes (I'd suggest write down the correct answers for quizzes because most of them show up of the test again!). Readings are interesting. Easy grader, overall a good gen ed.
I thought I liked philosophy before I took this class, but I was never interested in the readings. They were pretty boring. If you do the readings and take the quizzes, it will be an easy A..... but if you don't read everything and you are good at fudging quizzes, you can scrape by with a B.
