Mr. Savu is such a nice guy! Attendance is not mandatory, but I would suggest going because he is really helpful. You have homework (about twice a week on WebAssign), announced quizzes (he drops the lowest two), two midterms, and a final. He has a great sense of humor and is willing to give you extra help if you need it. Take him!!!
Steer clear of this class. He works homework problems for the first 40 minutes of class and then spends 10 minutes teaching the new lesson. WebAssign homework is then very difficult because you have not learned the lesson fully.
He doesn't teach the lessons and what he does teach, you can barely understand him. There were multiple times where he didn't even teach what was on the homework. The tests are a lot harder than the homework and quizzes. Also his grading was extremely unfair. DO NOT TAKE DAN SAVU
This class was very hard mainly because Dr. Savu skips through steps and makes it very confusing. He is pretty fair on grading but his tests are extremely hard and nothing like the homework or quizzes. I would not recommend taking this class if Savu is your teacher.
Loved Savu!! You must go to class and if you have questions you must ask!! He really wants everyone to do well and gives plenty of opportunities to do well. The amount of work given does add up and become tiresome but it is so worth it for an A in a 4 hour credit course.
Horrible teacher, expects you to know cal 2 before he teaches it, all around difficult class
first off, Savu is not a good teacher. He really does expect too much knowledge out of his students. If you have him, I recommend changing to a different cal2 class. I will say though he did drop our lowest 4 quizzes (out of 10) and also dropped one of my two tests. He bumped me from a 68.1 to a C. despite the negatives, he is very willing to help.
I liked Professor Savu. He was a little unclear on the material and how to do the homeworks but if you work with another person in your class, an A is easy. Just make sure to do all of the homeworks and do well of the weekly quizzes and you'll be fine. He reviews what will be on the quizzes right before you take them
You have to put in the effort to get a good grade in his class. Do not skip it even though it is mandatory. He is eager to help you. However, he is not the clearest of teachers and can make things very difficult if you do not pay attention or do not answer questions. Nice man, but not the best teacher.
He has a thick accent. He HATES cell phones in class and you have 5-6 question tests. Good luck understanding Savu, he's hard to understand. BUT, he gives a ton of partial credit on testsquizzes, so even if you don't know how to do something, you could still get a 100 on it. Don't take him if you truly care about learning math.
Savu is Romanian and VERY hard to understand. All of the homework is online and its super easy. There are quizzes every Friday; however, he drops the lowest 4 grades at the end of the semester. Tests are easy and are copied from review questions in the textbook. He is good at giving partial credit, and there are bonus questions for every test.
Savu is Romanian, and has a VERY thick accent. I could barely understand what he said. Quizzes every Friday and tests about once a month. However, he drops the lowest four quiz grades and replaces your lowest test grade for your final if you receive a higher grade. If math is hard for you I suggest you avoid him at all costs.
Thick accent. Nice guy but pretty bad teacher. Gives homework every single day. Only had 3 tests, but quizzes EVERY friday. Go to the free tutoring in Parker and they help a ton.
SAVU IS THE MAN! Just took his pre cal class and came out with a 104.4
Very easy class. If you get to know him, he is a really nice guy and he just wants you to do well in his class. Do every single web assign because they add up. His teaching is sometimes a tad confusing but overall he is a very easy professor and I would definitely recommend him.
Don't get me wrong, Savu's Calculus II class is by far the most difficult math I have ever taken, but besides the fact the material is hard, he is a decent teacher. He gives tons of partial credit and bonus points on exams and quizzes, but this is to prevent the whole class from failing. Be ready to study a ton and complete all homework.
Good professor, he really knows his stuff. He drops about 5-6 quizzes, so that helps. You can also drop a test and replace it with the final, for our class at least. He has a bit of an accent, and mumbles a bit, but it's not a deal breaker. Overall, still a good professor.
Danile Savu wants all of his students to do well in his class and if you ask for help then he will help you. He teaches well but only gives examples and expects you to teach yourself concepts. He is Romanian and his accent does cause confusion occasionally but he speaks English well which is good. The subjects are tough so expect a tough class.
Great Professor! If you have him be sure to go to office ours and work a bit with him! It helps a lot and shows that you are making an effort to learn material! Half of class is going over the previous nights HW, and the other is generally a new section. Quizzes every Friday, lowest ones dropped. He is quite comical and his accent isn't bad at all
Dr. Savu is an awesome guy. At first, you'll probably be a little intimidated by him and his accent, but you learn to understand him pretty quickly. He isn't the best lecturer, but he is always there to help outside of class. Definitely get to know him, he will help you out whenever you need it, including raising your grade at the end.
Lots of webassign homework that doesn't really help with your understanding of the class. He has a thick Romanian accent but it isn't hard to understand if you sit in the front. One of the nicest professors I have ever met, he really saved my semester after asking him about improving. Tests are extremely difficult though, must do the study guide.
Such an awesome teacher. Has an accent that you learn to pick up on easily. If you make an effort to see him in office hours, he will help you out. He's hilarious and wants his students to do well. If you communicate with him, he will do his best to help. He also raised my grade at the end of the semester because I had gone to see him so often.
He is funny but give pop quizzes and tests are hard even though you study for it. He does not check attendance but if you skip on quiz day you will get 0 and also if you skip on the day when he gives back your quiz he will take 1 point out of the quiz. (quiz is 5 point). Web assign is pretty easy but it does not help with your quiz or test.
Dr. Savu genuinely cares about his students and wants you to do well. Great sense of humor and somehow learns your name. He's helpful in office hours, but he can be confusing at times in lecture. Expect homework every night and a pop quiz a week, both which help you keep up and can boost your grade. Test problems come straight from the review.
I really didn't learn much in class because he talks so quietly and is hardly engaging. He's nice though, and pretty good about learning names. If you go to him with questions about the test, he'll give you free points.
He is the best math teacher that I ever had, and I wish all my teachers were him. Savu is very good and fair with giving partial credit and is willing to help students outside of class. He is the BEST professor for 1680 BY FAR, ask any business student. Savu is the man.
DANIEL SAVU is hilarious. Don't be fooled or intimidated by his Romanian accent. He is one of the nicest teachers that I have had in my 19 years, and he truly cares if his students pass or not. As for the class, making an A is not hard. He is a very good teacher and generous grader.
It's Calculus at Auburn, and you should expect the class to be tough. Dr. Savu may not be the best at English, but he still explains his course material well. He truly cares that his students learn something during the semester. He gives daily homework and a few hard tests. Do the homework seriously, it will save your test scores. Take his class!
TAKE HIS CLASS FOR BUSINESS CAL. At first I was intimidated by his Romanian accent and almost dropped the class, but I stuck with it and got an A+ for the semester. as long as you keep up with the lessons and do what is asked of you, you will make an A. he is very good with giving partial credit and actually cares that his students succeed!
I would recommend Savu. His lectures arent the most exciting but he covers everything. His focus is on examples so if you are a plug and chug type he is perfect, he rarely does a proof. The only drawback is his grading scale makes it where a point off a test is a point off your average, and the final is worth 30 points so it can make or break you
Dr. Savu is intimidating at first but he actually cares about your grade and wants his students to do well. For example: I got behind on WebAssign during the semester (its for a grade) and he let me make it all up over Thanksgiving Break-without even having to ask him. It was his idea. He's the best professor I've had so far in college.
He's the kind of guy to walk into the room the first day of class and yell "WE WILL LEARN THE MATH IN THE LANGUAGE OF MY MOTHERLAND." He has a super thick Romanian accent. Some people in the class had no problem comprehending him. Auburn has bad math profs all around. Great guy when you get to know him. Always willing to help in office hours!
He is a good teacher and is very helpful if you go to his office hours and he sees you are trying. He gives a lot of homework and its all for a grade. he can be a little hard to understand because of his accent but I did sit in the back. Anyway I would recommend him to anyone as a cal 3 teacher he knows his stuff.
Savu was a great Cal I professor. He tries very hard to insure that his students understand the concepts instead of just how to work meaningless problems. Expect generally harder problems to be on the tests, but he offers 20% bonus on each test, even the final. He's a super nice guy, a fair grader, and pretty funny, too.
I LOVED Savu. He tends to go quickly over the easier things at the beginning of the semester, but slows down as things get more difficult. If you go to class, do the homework, and ask questions when you're confused- there's no reason you shouldn't at least make a B. He was an easy grader and was willing to go over something again.
Probably the main thing to note about Prof. Savu is that he is from Romania. He, in my opinion, has an extremely thick and hard to understand accent. This made the lectures difficult to comprehend in a big auditorium. But fear not: he is probably the kindest and most helpful math teacher I have ever had. He's always available for one on one help.
Dr. Savu is a great professor. He really goes the extra mile to make sure his students understand what's going on in class. Take advantage of his office hours and get to know him, he really wants you to do well. He's a very reasonable grader and although the material can be confusing at times, if you put in a good amount of effort it will pay off.
Great professor. Definitely go to office hours for clarification.
This professor really helped me out. With his assistance I came out with an A in college calculus after having to drop out of high school calculus. He expects a lot. I was always studying, but hey, gotta be done, right? I made a B in the class (86) but he gave me an A, which is what it officially showed as on my GPA.
Knows what hes talking about, pretty clear for the most part and will give you advice if you go to his office hours. Really easy to talk to and get along with.
he is so nice and cares about your grade!! very easy if you actually pay attention and take good notes!! he is a good, fair test grader. I got like a 104. best 1680 teacher at auburn
Dr. Savu was the most helpful professor that I have had my whole college career. Calculus 2 is really tough, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to help you learn what you need to know. I went to his office hours, did all of my homework, and went to tutoring and ended up with an 88 in the class, but he bumped me to an A. Take him!
Calculus 2 is a difficult math course but Dr. Savu made it bearable and often enjoyable. He his absolutely hilarious. He has a thick accent so sit near the front and go to class, especially the day before a test. If you go to office hours or engage in class he won't forget your name/face either. One of my favorite professors.
If I could go back to the beginning of my college career I would take him for Calculus 1 through Calculus 3. He has a thick accent so sit near the front of his class, proximity to the board is a direct correlation to a higher grade. GO TO OFFICE HOURS REGULARLY AND ALWAYS RIGHT BEFORE THE TEST. If he knows you are trying he will help tremendously.
If you arent in the front 2 rows, you will not be able to hear him. His office hours are the only time I could hear him. Be ready to self teach yourself and do A LOT of webassign.
incredible teacher. he is Romanian so he does have an accent. this really isn't a problem. a lot of the reviews i've read on here honestly just come across as lazy. awesome teacher.
Highly recommend for Cal 1. His test questions are straight from his reviews and he grades very generously. Do the reviews and you will do well in his class. He is very friendly and will help any way he can if you come to him.
although he has a thicker accent, i don't think its makes him difficult to understand. he gets most test problems from the review questions he provides for you, so make sure you do them. he is a very generous grader, has a great personality, and responds to emails very quickly.
He's a great math professor. He explains everything well, but you have to listen carefully because of the accent. I would recommend taking him for Calc I, II, and III.
I loved Savu! He can be a little hard to understand at times, but sit up front and that won't be problem. He learned my name really quickly and was always helpful in office hours. Do the book problems and you will be fine for the tests!
Savu is the best math teacher I've had! Makes math fun with his jokes. Most of the test questions come straight from the review so do them. Although he doesn't take attendance, go to class because he will give extra credit and test questions. He has a thick Romanian accent, so make sure you sit near the front or you won't be able to listen.
I took Savu for Calculus 1 & he was great. @ the beginning of the semester I had a tough time deciphering his Romanian accent (& he didn't wear a mic) but I just had to adjust to the way he spoke. If you sit up front you should be fine. He doesn't take attendance but you should go to his lectures b/c they are excellent and you WILL pass the class.
Savu is an excellent professor! This is my first semester at Auburn as a transfer student and he is by far my FAVOURITE professor! He really cares that you do well, go to his office hours they are super helpful. Calculus III is a hard course but he makes it bearable and very enjoyable. His accent isn't really that bad, you could understand him.
Professor Savu cares about your learning and will help students everyway possible. Go to his office hours and make sure he knows who you are. His tests are a majority of the class weight. Study for them and ask him questions about material you don't understand.
Savu is the best Calculus teacher you will ever take. Sit up front and dedicate yourself to the homework. Each test has a bonus and he only keeps the best 6 quizzes out of 10.
Daniel Savu is by far the best Calculus professor you will ever have. He will work with you until you understand the material. Do the homework and copy down all of his examples. His tests come directly from the homework and the quizzes. Whatever you learned last in the chapter is bonus that is worth 20% extra! I wish I could take him again.
Professor Savu is the best professor you will get in the math department. He's hard, but he teaches you extremely well. If you flunk a quiz or test, go to his office hours and do corrections. Not only will he give you extra points but he will teach you more one on one. Also, he probably will love the effort and bump your grade up at the end.
Dr. Savu is such a good professor. Calc 2 is a hard class in general, so don't expect an easy A. But he tries to make such a hard class more enjoyable and is very accessible and helpful outside of class. We had WebAssign weekly, but I found that it helped me learn the material better even if it was a hassle.
Savu is the best calculus teacher for sure. I had him for calc 2 and 3 and ended with an A in both. 2 Webassigns per week on average, as long as you do these and study a good amount before tests you'll be fine. Also 1 quiz a week but he drops a couple of them at the end. He is very approachable, teaches extremely well, but calc is hard regardless.
Savu is the best Calc teacher. If you aren't happy with your test grade go to his office hours after a test and talk to him about it and he will most likely give you points back after y'all go through the test.
Homework due on web assign every class and a quiz every week, but he gives partial credit. Funny guy and usually shows up 5-10 minutes late, sometimes hard to understand his accent. Go to lectures and do the web assigns and you'll get a good grade.
Dr. Savu is a great professor he really knows what he is talking about and makes sure to explain it well. He gives people the chance to ask questions on the homework at the start of class, and tries to make sure everyone can understand what is going on. He can be a little hard to understand from time to time but he writes out everything important.
YOU WANT SAVU. He is without question the best calc professor at Auburn. He cares so much that he often has test reviews. If you show up to class and participate, he will know your name(even in a class of 150). Tests are out of 18 but graded out of 15. Class is not easy but he will explain anything in office hours and bump you if you show effort.
Daniel Savu is a good choice, I personally would not take him again simply because he is hard to study for. He assigns reviews with about 60 problems and only asks about 3 for the tests; also assigns a ton of HW and can be misleading about giving info for tests & quizzes. But he is very helpful and will always take the time to help, &cuts up a lot.
If you want to cram before tests and still be able to get over a 100%, take him. Yeah he has an accent, but pay attention and you'll be fine. There is webassign almost everyday, but the quizzes once a week are based off them. The tests take DIRECTLY from the review. He also reuses the same tests and quizzes every year.
Best professor I've probably ever had. Cares about the students, learns your name, and makes learning Cal 3 just a little easier. Test are straight from reviews and hw which is kinda long since there's only 3-5 questions per test. There are weekly quizzes. Just try and an A is definitely manageable.
Professor Savu was a solid Cal3 teacher. He didn't make it exceptionally hard but I still felt challenged. He has an Eastern European (Romanian) accent but it's not hard to understand. WebAssign 2-3 times a week helped me understand concepts. Tests had 3-4 questions that basically came straight from the book review problems he assigned.
Savu was pretty good for Calc 3, but be warned as he can be a bit hard to understand. He usually does a good job teaching the material, though I definitely needed help by using WebAssigns Watch It quite a bit. His tests are just like the homework problems. He gives a lot of homework. Very accessible outside of class
Savu was great for Cal 3. He was very nice and easy to understand. The weekly webassign wasnt hard and the tests were pretty easy too. He would replace your lowest test grade with the final too. Hes a nice guy and very helpful and understanding during office hours. 10/10 would recommend.
Calc 3 can be a difficult subject but Savu teaches it well. There's plenty of bonus on the tests an final as well. I had a 60 in the homework category (from forgetting to do it) but ended the class with a 105 because of how much bonus he gave on tests. There's also a weekly quiz but he drops the lowest 4.
Go to office hours. Ask for help. He is the best math teacher and so willing to help. Do your homework and go to class and you will be fine
I think he is the best doctor to take a math class with. Take him you wont regret! I hope all of the doctor are like him.
My favorite prof at Auburn so far, I had him for both calculus 2 and 3 and managed to get an A in both. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you show up he will know you and ultimately you'll get more points back in office hours the more he likes you. Do the homework and reviews and you'll be fine
He teaches things really well and his quizzes are a great grade booster. Tests are ok. He is really nice in office hours and if he gets to know you it is so worth it. He will reopen any hw u didnt get 100 on at the end of the semester if you ask him too. I had a 92 before the final and an 88 after and he gave me A. Would definitely recommed
He is a super nice guy and cares about his students. Go to his office hours if you don't understand something and he'll help you out. There is 20% bonus on all his tests and the final. He also sometimes gives bonus quizzes the day after a test. He has an accent but it's not hard to understand. I wish he taught every math class I have to take.
Savu is the man. Calculus III can be a hard class but he does a good job explaining in lectures. Homework is online using webassign, but it's not bad. He's sometimes hard to understand because of his accent but he is hilarious. Sit near the front and you'll have no problem, plus he'll recognize you.
Savu is one of the better teachers I've had at Auburn. He is a great lecturer and gives lengthy optional review assignments before tests which are very useful if you put in the time and effort to do them. 2-4 WebAssign assignments weekly, often posted the day before they are due, so keep track. Not difficult to get an A if you're willing to work.
one of the best math professors in AU, he cares a lot and gives every student a new chance to improve their grade. gives extra credit every Friday. very nice
Best math professor at Auburn. Its calculus, so you'll have to teach yourself some anyways, but his lectures are good. Assigns tons of webassign though. If he knows your trying, he'll help you out when you need it so make sure to go to his office hours.
Dr. Savu is a very intelligent man. Almost too smart for his own good. However, that does not stand in the way of teaching in a way you understand. Homework due almost every class. Either a quiz over previous two HW assignments or a test every week. Gives a bonus question on every test and often gives bonus points on Fridays for people that attend.
While class isn't mandatory, lots of extra credit is given to those who go. Plus the material is hard even though Dr. Savu presents it well, so going to class is recommended.
Calc 3 is a hard class but it will be fine as long as you take calc 3 with him. He is willing to help you out whenever you're confused. Also, PLEASE DO THE REVIEWS HE GIVES BEFORE THE TEST. It is gonna save your life because his test questions are from the reviews that he gives from the textbook.
my literal king mr. savu <3 we stan a legend! there's a lot of homework, but it helps you understand the material. go to office hours if you're confused, he'll help you out. he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. if you put in the work, it's not that hard to make a good grade. he can b tough sometimes, but he just wants you to try your best.
Doesn't give a lot of extra credit even though other reviews say he does:///. BUT GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. Sometimes he will give you a point or two back on a test if you show you understand what you did wrong. He really cares about his students and will try to help you as much as he can!
Professor Savu is a very caring teacher. He does a great job of explaining. I took precal in high school and this class was not too difficult compared to it. It does require some studying as you would expect for an Auburn math class. Do not use your phone in class. Do the reviews thoroughly and you will do well. He gives a review for tests.
I LOVE SAVU OKAY! HE IS SO NICE... BUT TRUST ME DOG, THIS CLASS IS JUST NOT GOING WELL OKAY. VERY TOUGH TO UNDERSTAND
I love this man he is so funny and caring and when we had that awful weather and Auburn wouldnt cancel class, he cancelled class so that we would get to go home and see our families or just be inside and stay safe. This class had short 5 question quizzes due every sunday night which were easy to forget. The tests were easy and the class fine
Really fun, caring guy. The class itself is super difficult and I needed SI to supplement it but it's definitely manageable.
He's a great teacher, 10/10 would recommend. As long as you go to class and take notes, you'll do fine. Make sure to do all the review problems and ask questions, because those questions are the ones on the test. Overall, he's one of the best math professors around.
Dr. Savu is a hilarious and extremely intelligent professor. He has a thick Armenian accent but is easy to understand. Sometimes he doesn't explain something very thoroughly, but will gladly answer questions and is accessible during his office hours. He only gives 4 tests but they are all open ended and he is VERY generous with points! Love him!
Never had a teacher with more unorganized lectures than him; lectures are a joke. He slaps problems and numbers on the board without explaining where they come from and expects you to understand. I took this course in high school, but he managed to confuse me even more. Tests and online quizzes are easy if you can figure out how to teach yourself.
He genuinely wants you to do well, he's a very smart mathematician so it's difficult for him to understand that you might not understand, but if you ask questions he can answer them. He is always encouraging, gives a lot of practice through homework, and if you do the study guides you will do well. He's also really funny, which can help at 8am.
Caring, funny guy who wants you to do well. Very smart. Has an accent but you get used to it. Be on top of doing the webassigns and pay attention during class. He did drop our lowest test grade but aside from tests the webassign average is your only other grade. Ask questions and go to office hours because he wants to see you succeed. SI was good.
Really wants student to succeed, go to office hours, do the web assign. Attendance is technically not mandatory, but if you need a grade bump and he looks at sign in sheet and sees you were not there he will not bump.
He really cares about his students. He is a good teacher, always helpful during office hours, and does whatever he can to help his students. Teaches that material well and makes his test pretty easy
I have never gotten anything away from class because the man kept joking and teaching at the same time. With that being said, it's a fair class, he gives homework that will teach you how to do it, and he is pretty quick to reply to your questions Online. He always gives 20 points wroth of credit on every test and drops your lowest grade.
Dr. Savu is an amazing calculus professor that truly cares about his students. If you have the chance to take his class, do it because you won't regret it. His lectures are super helpful and very example heavy. Homework and attendance is important for office hours help.
I loved Savu! I had taken AP Calculus in high school so I already had an understanding of calculus, but class still wasn't a breeze. He made you work for your grade, but if he could tell you were trying/improving he really would work with you to ensure you get the grade you deserve. He is constantly lecturing/working problems but is very funny.
Professor Savu is the BEST calculus teacher at Auburn. He doesnt want you to memorize how to do math but he makes you understand why youre doing what you do. I am AWFUL at math and it was my third time taking it at Auburn and I ended with a B in his class!
Dr. Savu is funny and keeps the class engaged, however he rushes through problems and does not break them down. You are expected to remember all math from high school. 1/4 of my class dropped after bombing the first test. The only reason I passed was because of SI sessions. Don't recommend
Savu is the WORST. He literally rushes through problems, doesn't explain anything, and just expects you to do good on the test. Sure he is nice, but he is either rushing through classes or sitting and talking unecessarily. He is good about office hours, but you still never learn anything. 1/3 dropped. Failed most tests. Went to class everyday. :/
Savu is one of the best teachers Ive had. Only downfall is it is sorta hard to understand him sometimes. Dont listen to anyone who says he is a bad teacher. If you literally try on the homework he gives u its the exact same as the test. He works with you in office hours and is a great guy!!!
Dr Savu is such a great professor! He is a great teacher and you will learn so much if you actually show up to class/ pay attention. He is very helpful in office hours especially the week of the test he usually has a group of us in there and goes over study guide problems that we request. But you will have to put in the effort to get the results!
Tests are very difficult and his grader barely gives you points even if you get the correct answer. If you keep a HIGH homework average you will be able to at least pass. Savu is a nice man but his course is one of the most difficult.
He gives the most extra credit I have ever had, each test include final give at least 20 bonus. If you pay more attention on homework, the quizzes and test are very easy. I really recommand the instructor
SO MUCH HOMEWORK. Get ready to have 3 longish homework assignments a week. That being said, he made Cal III pretty painless. I am a biochem major but it was not hard to get an A in his class. His lectures are boring and not very useful but his easy tests make up for it. He takes attendance and has an easy weekly quiz. An A or B is super attainable.
Gives good feedback, respected, there is a lot of homework but it's for bosting grade and is a lot like tests, he is accessible outside of class, very caring, gives lots of extra credit, takes attendance but again helps your grade and going to class is actually fun because he's hilarious. He has a grader for the class who is tough but he isn't
Savu was the best math professor I have ever had. Great guy and knows his stuffs. If you dont understand something just go to his office hours and he will gladly help. Highly recommend Dr. Savu
Dr. Savu is a great guy who gives hilarious lectures and really cares about his students. The tests are only 5 questions but he is fairly lenient with partial credit. There is tons of homework on WebAssign, but it's manageable. The final is difficult but he curves the final grades a lot. Take him if you can!
He's a great guy and really understanding. He cares a lot about his students and does the best he can to help them. Class was where I learned how to do the math, but I needed to go on youtube in order to grasp the "image" of how the math is applied. Although, he has very flexible office hours and this helped me grasp the "image" as well. Great guy
