I loved his class and his teaching style. Watching his videos at home were also very helpful. He is a super nice guy!
Good teacher, just make sure you actually study.
Daniel Scott is one of the best lecturers on campus. His class was always entertaining to listen to and he provides many resources if you are struggling with a concept. (Online videos to pause and rewatch, textbook, tutoring lab, SI sessions). Some pop quizzes are assigned at the end of class and due the next, but that's the worst.
I think Dr. Scott is one of the best teachers I have met at UVU. He is well decorated in the Chemistry department and he is brilliant. I took Chem-1210 with him and he made a supposed hard subject into a pretty simple subject. I understood his teaching well and makes quick witted jokes that help smooth the stresses of chemistry. He is aweso
Dr. Scott is awesome! He really gives you every opportunity to succeed and tries to rephrase anything that students don't understand. I really enjoyed taking his class, but also I just suck at chemistry :).
Chemistry is usually a hard topic to understand, but Dr. Scott uses very easy methods to teach it. There is a lot of material to cover so he has to go fast, but if you do the assignments you will be prepared for the Exam.
Dr. Scott is a really incredible professor and I would highly recommend you learn chemistry from him. He provides multiple learning sources and ways for you to get repeated exposure to the material. Chemistry is really challenging but he does a great job of maintaining your attention and explaining the material.
He is an awesome professor!!!
Attendance is mandatory and you never know when he's going to take it, so you have to go pretty much every single day. The exams are much harder than the quizzes and often ask questions in unfamiliar ways, so you really have to study for them. You don't know when the quizzes are going to be due until the night before, so you should work ahead.
Professor Scott was so funny and made an awesome, engaging, learning environment! Even though Chemistry is tough, he made it so much more fun!
Doctor Scott was great! I hated chemistry in highschool because I had a teacher who didn't teach very well. Doctor Scott on the other hand teaches very well. I even enjoyed doing some of the chemistry once I understood it. He did a really good job at answering my many questions during class. Better test scores replace previous bad test scores too!
I loved chem with Dr. Scott. I hate chem as a subject but he made class fun. We also talked to peers a lot in class which helped with forming study groups and friends in the class. It also make for an enjoyable experience
Professor Scott was one of the best professors I've had. He makes learning about chemistry really simple and likes to involve us in the learning process. Professor Scott is an amazing teacher. He has us do quizzes, there are homework questions to prepare for the quizzes, but only the quizzes and exams go on our grade. Really an awesome professor.
Dr. Scott was fantastic. He's funny and incredibly knowledgable. I highly recommend.
It's a super hard subject but Dr. Scott does a great job teaching it. He is good at explaining concepts that are difficult to understand. He gives a lot of practice problems to help you practice. Attendance is very important, even if you miss one day, you risk getting behind and being lost during the lecture.
Professor Scott is incredible! He is one of those few professors that both knows the subject thoroughly and has the ability to teach it in a clear, fun, and understandable way. He posts videos of himself working through chemistry problems and concepts with a puppet named Fred acting as a student.
professor Scott's has good exams they follow the same word format of his lectures, he does not try a trick you. his grading scale is fair and gives more opportunity's to pass and gain back lost points then most science classes.
He has a good sense of humor and tries to help you understand in the best way he can. He includes a lot of extra videos to watch in case you need to go over some topics again. This class has a lot of information, but it feels very accessible and easier to understand. He puts many extra credit opportunities.
Easily one of my favorite professors at UVU. Easy to pay attention to and his youtube videos are extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend watching his videos prior to coming into class each day.
Dr. Scott is the absolute best. I was so scared to take chemistry, but Dr. Scott made it such a fun, engaging, and positive experience. If you need to take Chemistry, I cannot recommend him enough. If you are willing to put in the work, he will meet you half way there. He also has online lecture videos that are super helpful!
Absolutely LOVED class with Dr. Clark! He is always cracking jokes. The homework is very manageable. we had a couple quizzes for each chapter taken on canvas. Each quiz offers around 3 attempts, so it is easy to get 100% on the homework assignments. Tests are pretty tough, but If you study the study guide you'll be good!
His teaching style is great and easy to understand. He encourages questions and always is willing to help you learn the concept. He also puts videos on Canvas to help you understand the problems on the quizzes and homework. The course is difficult but he wants you to succeed.
Dr. Scott is probably the best chem teacher Ive ever taken. He doesnt overcomplicate things so its way east to learn
This is just a fun class where you can work on individual projects/a class research project related to formulations. Mostly just graded on showing up and putting in work. Individual/group projects that seem to be just graded on you doing your best. Went on a few field trips too! Really fun elective class.
Professor Scott is hilarious and really cares about your grade!! The class material is difficult but if you work at it you can get it!
Professor Scott was a great professor. Chemistry is a hard subject and the tests in this class are worth a large portion of your grade. Professor Scott is cares about you doing well and throughout the semester made himself very available to answers questions and offer help to students. I'd would 100% recommend you take Professor Scott's class.
Dr. Scott is the goat. I highly recommend taking this class from him. Just pay attention and you'll learn a lot, plus he's hilarious. Sometimes he springs quizzes on you and they can be easy to miss, but if you're watching canvas you'll be fine. Take advantage of the SI sessions for this class and study for exams!! Exams are the hardest part.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor! I highly recommend taking chemistry from him. Its a hard class but he makes it manageable and really cares about his students.
Dr. Scott is one of the best professors I've ever had! He teaches in a way that is super simple to understand, but is also very in-depth and provides a solid foundation for chemistry. Before this class, I didn't know a thing about chemistry, but Dr. Scott has helped me learn so much! Very forgiving grading! Also, genuinely one of nicest people ever
Probably the best professor that I have ever had, obviously knows the material very well and knows how to explain it logically. He has a bunch of videos for every topic on YouTube that are super helpful if you couldn't follow along or missed. My only gripe is that quizzes get assigned the day before they are due. This makes it hard to plan ahead.
Dr. Scott has been one of my favorite teachers that I have had while I have been at UVU. While chemistry is a hard subject, I couldn't have asked for a better professor to help teach me this material. I strongly recommend Dr. Scott. The class is test heavy but he provides great study guides that help you prepare well for the exams. Take him!
It's interesting to see all these 5/5s. He seems like a nice guy, but I could not learn a thing from him. I transferred to a different professor and got an A on my first exam within days of transferring. If you enjoy an extremely fast pace with little explanation, you'll love this class.
Best chemistry professor I have ever had. Teaches the subject very well through group discussion and practicing problems in class.
Professor Scott is awesome! Though the class is challenging, he makes it manageable. I found unstuck ai super helpful for exam prep alongside the study guides.
Fantastic teacher! 10/10 recommend
He was good just sometimes moved quickly
Considering the material we were required to learn, Dr. Scott explained it well and left the rest up to the students. If you want to understand the subjects, you need to put in the work. Dr. Scott provides the materials to do so, but it comes down to how badly you want to succeed because he won't hold your hand through it.
Dr. Scott was fantastic. His excitement for the subject was not lost on me, and his teaching style was great for me personally. Some of his lectures were a little fast but I was able to keep up. Please please please, if they are available, go to the SI sessions for his class if you can, they help so much, especially before the tests.
Very laid back, he's a super fun professor. His teaching method is very clear and easy to understand. He is very open to questions and answers all of them to the fullest of his capacity.
Dr. Scott is really nice, however he teaches one thing and then on the test it's a different situation we have not talked about. It's like a curveball answer. So instead of knowing the material, you're resorted to memorizing what situation means what, instead of understanding why is does that. The online videos aren't that helpful either.
watch out for bell curve
Very lecture heavy class and Professor Scott covers material quickly. Recommend not missing any days.
Dr. Scott is a super good dude and teacher. He explains things slowly and in a way that you understand. He is also super willing to help you succeed and gives you all the tools you need. I recommend taking this class.
I liked this class, but I struggled with chemistry itself. As a professor, he was engaging and explained concepts well. He is willing to work with his students during office hours, and I believe he does care about his students. If you like working in groups and talking, this class is for you.
This is a great class, the lectures are not heavy and there's a lot of examples to practice what they've learned. It's important to notice that this is a fast-paced class and that it's not for everyone, however, Professor Scott enjoys his subject and is willing to help if necessary.
I did have trouble trying to send him emails, but if you talk to him in person any issues I've had have been resolved very quickly! Really good teacher and helps understand the concepts well. Be prepared for tests. He does not drop the lowest test score, but he will go back and change your past test scores if you do better on the next exam.
The material was taught all during the lecture with the occasional homework quiz. He did a good job of explaining it and making sure everyone understood the concepts in class.
Makes chemistry very simple and easy to understand.
Dr. Scott is a phenomenal professor! Chem 1 is hard and he does a good job explaining it so his students can understand. It is very test heavy but he works hard to prepare you for the tests. I would highly recommend Dr. Scott to anyone wanting to take this course. His lectures are awesome and makes it very entertaining.
Dr. Scott is a great teacher. He breaks concepts down in an easily comprehensible manner, and he does offer supplemental resources to further understanding. He's typically available during office hours and occasionally offers extra credit. His class comes pre-curved, but his tests are not curved. Dr. Scott is passionate but he moves FAST!!!
Great profesor, only complaint, in class you will continue learning new subjects and going back to take tests on previously learned information and that can be difficult. Class flys through subjects. His reviews weren't super helpful besides getting the answers to the problems you missed because of how quickly he skates through.
I liked him. Use the textbook online he has I didn't find out till later and pay attention in class and you'll do fine. I would take him again.
Attendance will bite you in the behind if you don't go. I know it's stupid but it dropped me a whole grade point. His study guides are pretty similar to exams but they are hard exams.
Dr. Scott is a very well informed and nice teacher, who provides good explanations of difficult topics. With that being said, your grade is very test heavy and the grades on the exams are harsh. This semester the class mean for exam four was a 59. If you study and pay attention you will do okay, but you have to come to class. Currently I have a 94.
Make sure to always show up to class because not only is attendance mandatory but lectures are needed to pass test and understand material.
He is a good teacher, just make sure that you are ready for the lectures and study for the tests because he doesn't go over the review with the students.
I learned a ton in Dr. Scott's class. His lectures are engaging, even entertaining. There's a lot of content in this class though, so pay attention, or you'll suffer big time.
Really good professor, except that I wish we would take the exams of the material when we would finish the material. We wouldn't take the exam till about a week after we finished the stuff on it meanwhile, in that week period, we learn new material that isn't on that test.
Dr. Scott is good at teaching. He is very patient and cares about everyone's learning process.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. He teaches with patience, which shows his caring for everyone's learning process.
The work is challanging, but a very large curve is provided to balance out its difficulties. Professor Scott is very accessible to his students, taking time and patience to answer questions. This is not a course you can breeze through without excessive study, but you will understand the topic when you finish the class.
Dr. Scott is awesome and provides countless examples of real world problems to enhance understanding of each subject.
Dr. Scott was accessible outside class, and his lectures were engaging. He always left time for questions during important sections. The only criticism is that there wasn't enough practice outside class. Tests are closed for notes. Pay attention and come up with practice problems to succeed. Memorizing concepts is a core part of this class.
His lectures are easy to understand. There are videos for every question available on canvas. There is about 1-2 16 question homework, 3 attempt quizzes every week. Everything is graded on a curve, so anything above an 88% is an A, 78-81% is a B, 63-69% is a C. There are a couple of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
He gives all slides from lectures - very helpful to take notes on during lecture. Great analogies & jokes helped me remember concepts. The videos he does are at first- goofy but you'll love Fred. He asks the dumb questions you didn't know you should be asking. Tough class but all around really good professor.
Dr. Scott is fantastic! He makes difficult concepts easy to understand and provides a lot of help and resources to turn to if you're struggling. The only complaint I have is that the online quizzes and resources didn't always line up with the lectures. Amazing professor, this class would've been awful without his additions.
Gives out copies of his lecture slides and entertaining and funny lectures. Quizzes are required once a twice a week before class that help to understand concepts. He is super willing to answer any questions in class, and encourages it! Videos of topics and lectures are online. One of the best teaching styles I have ever experienced!
He was very easy to understand and took the time to make the concepts relatable.
The class is difficult in general, everyone knows chemistry is, but Scott is a good professor and teaches at a good speed, although it's very lecture heavy. He does do lots of practice problems throughout the lecture, so you have to pay close attention. He's very funny too.
Chemistry is obviously difficult, but Dr. Scott is a great teacher. He lectures super well, is super funny, and makes sure you grasp a topic. No question is a dumb question in his class. Lots of videos available too. I loved his teaching style! Also, your best single exam score will apply to all your exams scores for the whole semester!
Super cool teacher! Attend class and you should be good!
Great professor, he really tries his best to help you out. Chemistry is just a difficult class and he tries to make it easier for students
He for some reason decides to teach the next unit before taking the test on the previous. So when you come to class after the test you're already a least two days behind on the next chapter. However he is very fair with grading and the SI session are very helpful.
Professor Scott is one of those hidden gems in the chemistry department. I signed up for his class not knowing what to expect, but he ended up really enhancing my understanding of chemistry. His lectures always go by quickly, but this is because he keeps your attention the entire time. I wish all professors put in the same effort towards teaching.
Dr. Scott is a really outspoken teacher who cares about you learning the concepts of chemistry. He does move pretty quickly during his lectures but he gives you so many resources such as videos he personally makes. Word of advice, watch his videos before coming into class, it helps clear your understanding, rather than looking like WTF.
Dr. Scott really knows the subject and I thoroughly enjoyed the topic and the way that he taught. Don't skimp through the class, if you show up and put in the work you will get the grade that you deserve.
Dr.Scott is a great professor! He pre-records short videos of key concepts and posts them in each module followed by a quiz, this teaching style made the information more easily digestible. The exams are comprehensive, but if you do poorly on them he offers many opportunities to improve your grade. You can tell he wants his students to succeed!
Watch online lecture videos before coming to class. In-class lectures are very rushed. In-class lectures are more focused towards practice problems, the online videos will help you ask specific questions in class. The quizzes will be docked if late. Read the exam questions carefully, they are harder than the exam study guides.
Dr. Scott is a great professor, he knows what he is talking about and how to prepare you the best he can for the exam. If you listen in his class and participate in the lectures, study, and attend the SI sessions there is no possibility you will fail. he gives the tools to get a A-B out of this class for every student willing to put in the work.
I enjoyed my experience in Dr. Scotts class. You will have to learn a lot outside of class if you don't absorb information well from lectures. I liked his office hours and utilized them multiple times. Do not get behind in this class, it is difficult to catch up.
I really enjoyed this class even though it was a very difficult one. This professor teaches well, but the class is very fast paced. He provides recorded lecture videos of everything covered in class which is really helpful. The exams are quite difficult. Class Averages are around 50-60% on exams. Doesn't curve. Grading system is lowered. A=85%
Dr. Scott is amazing! Lectures are great and attendance is graded, though he offers extra credit if you need to make some up. If you are struggling, GO TO THE SI SESSIONS. They will most likely help. Chemistry is a hard subject. Keep up and stay on top of the quizzes and you will do great! An online textbook is provided but almost never used.
Professor Scott is very knowledgeable in chemistry, however this class is not super easy for a general chem class. I found myself studying the quiz videos and review sheets intently every day but then would get a score just good enough not to fail. Compared to the other professors available, Dr. Scott is a good choice even though its hard.
He is a super good teacher, provides online lectures, and has extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard though but loved him
This class is really hard. Professor Scott does a good job of teaching the required material and making sure the tests align with the ACS final.
I personally really struggled with how he teaches. He has videos he posts that teaches you things, but I didn't feel like things were actually ever explained to complete understanding. Lots of quizzes that you have to teach yourself the material before taking it. Quizzes are due before class. And then in class we just go over the quizzes.
Professor Scott is great at working through the concepts with us. A lot of class is light lecture followed by practice problems, so you get out what you put in. Same applies for the hw and videos he posts for practice. It is a difficult class, like all chemistry, but I would take classes with Professor Scott again.
Great teacher, comfortable asking questions, easy communication, fun
be ready for lot's of homework 'quizzes' but overall a very good professor. read, read, read!
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. He makes youtube videos explaining each chapter and you can tell he actually cares about his students success. There are so many outside sources to use to be able to understand each unit. This class is harder but is easily doable.
Professor Scott teaches a tough class, but he does it really well. If you show up and you make an effort to understand there's a lot of resources to help you succeed. He's a good lecturer and he spends time on the difficult subjects.
The professor shared YouTube videos related to the class before class, which helped me study. In addition, since the test scope is cumulative, if you do well on the last test, your previous test scores will go up as well.
Daniel Scott was the best. He cares about his students success and only wants what is best for his students. I would definitely take him for my future chemistry classes. He is great at answering questions and if he feels like you are struggling he will reach out to see if you need any extra help just to make sure you understand and can pass.
Since the professor shares YouTube videos that he personally filmed, it helps you follow the class content. And since the test scope is cumulative, if you do well on the last test, your previous test scores will also go up.
Dr. Scott knows what he's talking about, he's funny and he genuinely seems to care about his students. It's very lecture based, but not the "you must remain silent and listen" kind. It's a louder learning environment, and he encourages group conversations in order to understand the material, which I loved. His tests aren't easy, but they're doable.
Dr. Scott is a really good teacher. He is passionate about chemistry and does a good job explaining concepts. There are videos online that cover the lectures so if you couldn't get everything in one lecture, then you can go back and watch them! He is really good and I would recommend him.
makes chemistry enjoyable and interesting. Tests are hard, but if you study you should be fine.
Dr. Scott is a great professor who gives you all of the resources you could need to pass. I found the course very difficult and time consuming, but I was also taking 14 credit hours. If you come to class, do the work, and study you should pass no problem. Everything is curved
Dr. Scott was a very good teacher, he did many examples in class and on the videos he posted online, he would also walk through all the homework questions which I really liked. Doing the homework, and taking the quizzes, as well as making sure you really understand the concepts will make the class really easy to pass.
As a professor, professor Scott really is a good professor that does try to help his students and is pretty accessible before and after class! Chemistry is already a tough subject for me and I felt like a lot of times it was myself teaching the subjects as the professor does move on pretty quickly in his lectures. Overall a solid professor
Test scores matter a lot in this class, and they are difficult. But Dr. Scott is willing to help and the SI sessions are great. Plus the grades are curved so this class is passable. he uploads YouTube videos of everything from lectures so it's pretty nice to review. I would recommend his class 100%
General Chemistry is a hard class in general no matter who you take it from.Dr Scott spends lots of time in class doing practice problems that help the students learn. His lectures prepare you for his exams. He teaches you exactly what is going to be on the exams and how to do it. No surprises just a lot of hard work and practice.
Dr. Scott is the best chemistry professor at UVU hands down. SO nice. His lectures are amazing. He is always willing to meet with students in his office and get you caught up. Scott made me love chemistry. The tests can seem difficult but if you come to class and pay attention to his lectures he prepares you better than any teacher I've had.
Dr. Scott is very attentive to questions asked by anyone in class and makes sure to explain things. While his explanations help conceptually, I still had trouble when it came to answering questions and solving problems. Prep videos are provided for every quiz and grading scale is larger so you earn a higher letter with a lower grade percentage.
Dr. Scott is an amazing chemistry teacher. He seems super tough at first, and he is, but it is definitely necessary. The way that he teaches you really makes you learn the material. If you understand his dry jokes, I think you'll do great.
Phenomenal lecturer, Chemistry is not an easy class, the subject is heavy often, but Dr. Scott does a great job of making it manageable and interesting
Great teacher but tests are extremely important and pretty tough.
Overall great teacher! It was difficult because we covered a lot of material and it's a difficult class.
Dr. Scott has been one of my favorite teachers in my experience at UVU! By no means was the class easy, but he was never a slouch when it came to teaching. Most of the grade was based on the test, but if you put in the work, you were always set up for success. I'd also encourage anyone who takes his class to participate in group studying.
He's a great teacher. The material is hard, but Dr. Scott wants you to succeed. If you're not understanding something ask the question in class, or go to his office to get a better explanation.
Amazing Professor
He is a good professor overall. He taught well, and sometimes made learning interesting, but it's hard to pay attention to long lectures a lot of the time. Sometimes I felt like we were quizzed on things that we didn't go over in class. I like how he had us talk through questions with classmates. Overall, I'd say he's your average professor.
As far as chemistry goes, I had never taken a class in my life. I was quite shocked as soon as I attended this class, as I realzied that I was a bit out of my depth. The class was probably the most difficult classes I have ever taken at a college level, but I was always impressed with Dr. Scott as a professor and how much I learned.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor dedicated to his students. His tests are incredibly difficult but prepare you super well for the ACS final. If you study hard and PRACTICE lots, you can get a great grade. My main downfall was that I didn't practice enough due to a heavy workload and midterm illness. Even with my lowergrade I HIGHLY recommend him.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor! He does a great job at teaching the material and makes sure to explain everything in an interesting way. Study, group study helps a lot, and make sure you know the material before each test, and you'll do great! He even gave us extra credit opportunities to attend chemistry seminars throughout the semester.
He prepared us well for the ACS exam (the final). But more importantly, he taught us how to think better. I didn't feel like I was cramming and trying to memorize everything. Instead, he taught us why rules were there and let us reason for ourselves. One time he even said if it doesn't make sense just stare at it until it does make sense. It worked
He has been one of my favorite professors I have taken from. He was more lecture-heavy but wanted you to talk with your classmates to try and practice the information in the test. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to answer students' questions in and out of class. I highly recommend him for Chem 1210!!!
Dr. Scott was an amazing professor. He was willing to meet with you for HOURS if you needed it. His only grades are attendance, quizzes, and the tests. The only reason I got a B was because of the ACS which was the final exam. It has a pretty rough time limit so that was what wrecked my grade. So my grade had nothing to do with the professor.
BEST CHEM PROFESSOR! So many great resources (videos, free textbook, 3 attempts on quizzes, printed slides, study guides, SI sessions). Really knows what he's talking about and explains it in a way that is easy to understand. If you do well on the quizzes, it creates a great buffer for your grade. Review the videos and do the practice before tests!
Great Professor as long as your willing to study. His tests are the most important in terms of your grade so you have to be a great test taker. At UVU there is no one better!
Preparing yourself before class is always best since we work through a lot of problems during class. If you are lost you won't understand much, which can make it difficult to catch up.
An amazing professor. Class is definitely a hard class, but he allows for many ways to make up points. He is super knowledgeable about chemistry, and teaches in many different ways to help those who learn in different ways. Makes chemistry more applicable to life, and helps you make connections. Would definitely take another chemistry class w/ him!
He's a good guy and wants you to succeed!
I thought that Professor Scott did a great job. Chemistry is a difficult subject, but I feel that he made an earnest effort to make the information as digestible for a first-time learner as possible. You will have to work hard and spend a lot of time studying. However, success is certainly attainable with this professor.
Tough subject, great professor
Great professor. If you attend class and work through the example problems you will be well prepared for the exams.
Dr Scott is the GOAT. This class is pretty tough but Dr. Scott made it way more manageable. The midterm tests are written by him and aren't too difficult but the final comes from outside sources and is a pretty gnarly test. The national average speaks for that. Attendance wasn't required but I would recommend showing up as much as possible.
Dr. Scott knows his chemistry very well. The class sizes are large so it is hard to get one on one.
Take him!!
He's the best professor I've ever had. I'm not just saying that, he genuinely cares about your success and cares about how you do.
Dr. Scott makes learning chemistry a not so daunting task. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He provides short recorded videos on each topic that you can watch as many times as you need. Exams are cumulative and if you do better on a subsequent exam all scores prior are raised to match. He's a good one, take his class!
Dr. Scott always came prepared to class and explained the material that made sense. Your grade is heavily weighted on the tests, so make sure to study the 12+ hours a week if you want to get an A. I really liked Dr. Scott and his humor! I definitely recommend taking his Chem 1210 class!!
He is very caring and is very accommodating if you have accommodations. Provides videos for every chapter and the Periodic Table of Elements w/ the polyatomic ions and solubility rules for every test. This class is challenging, but Dr. Scott make it manageable and understandable!
Points for attendance and homework but overall your grade depends on the tests. Four tests plus the final, all are cumulative and if you improve he will match the old scores to the new one. Class is all lectures and practice problems with usually 2-3 online homework quizzes per week. Group work is highly encouraged. Teacher is kind and passionate.
Great class, He really understands Chemistry and tries to make it fun with videos that he has made.
The material can be tough and the class is fast paced at times but Dr Scott provides a lot of materials and resources to help you understand with videos, textbook resources, there's SI reviews, and I always use the UVU science lab for extra help if needed and I did just fine. Dr Scott is very approachable and good at explaining new concepts!
Daniel Scott was an incredible teacher and made this difficult class bearable. I would recommend him to everyone
The tests matter a lot, but each test can raise the score of your previous tests if you did better on the later tests. The final is a nationally standardized test, and the average is 50% or 60% but Dr. Scott is good at preparing you for it, and his students usually do better than the national average.
The tests are most of the grade but he gives reviews out for them and his lectures are very interesting and helpful!
He teaches concepts well but does not prepare you for the BS trick questions on exams…
Dr. Scott is the BEST professor at UVU. His lectures are clear, he takes time to answer each and every question, there are quizzes online each week (with multiple attempts) that aid in comprehension, & he does a fantastic job in preparing you for the final. If you show up, he sets you up for success. Friends with other teachers did not do so well.
He is a great Professor! But you really need to show up if you want a good great in his class.
Dr. Scott is a great professor. He really cares about the students doing well. Chemistry is difficult but he would make sure to listen and explain any questions that we may have. The exams make up most of the grades but you are able to change the grade if you do better on the next test. I would take a class from dr. Scott again.
He was the best teacher I have ever had
Dr. Scott truly is a great Chemistry professor. His lectures are very entertaining and informative. He gives you all the resources and materials you need to succeed in chemistry, you just have to put in the work. Wouldn't want to take chemistry from any other professor :)
Good professor but only has tests and quizzes for your grade. I barely got what I needed on the final to get a C. Good luck with that one. But after 3 emails to fix my attendance he did fix it. Chill guy. No test reviews in class except for 1 day for the final. He starts the next chapter for about a week before giving you the test for previous stuf
His lectures were easy to understand and he did a really good job of including practice problems and was willing to answer questions! The class is hard but he cares about his students and is willing to help!
Dr. Scott is a great professor! Everything was clear up from the beginning and he's willing to help you understand the material. There are quite a few tests and a lot of trick questions. The lectures are very well done. Attendance is mandatory but he stopped taking attendance about halfway through the semester. I would take another class from him.
Hands down the best Chemistry teacher at UVU. If you have to take CHEM 1210, then take it from Dr. Scott
The class is hard, but Dr. Scott makes sure you have the resources needed to succeed. Spending time studying from beginning to end probably needed if you want a good grade, because the material is challenging.
I have never seen anyone put more effort into teaching effectively. There are recorded lectures with sock puppets for every single principle he goes over in the course. He creates a great classroom environment that encourages questions, and he explains things clearly. He also prepares slides for you to take notes on.
Dr. Scott is a great professor. He is willing to work with you and he provides a lot of resources to do well in the course. There are study sessions, videos he made himself, printed-out slides, practice tests, etc. He even includes a bit of extra credit. Go to class and put in effort, then you will get a good grade.
Chemistry is a hard course but with Dr Scott I felt adequately prepared for the final ACS exam. Study hard and do some questions in the back of the textbook and you'll be fine.
He clearly knows how students learn best cause he organized his course to do just that. His class is built in a way that allows you to practice the concepts as you learn them and as you will see them on the tests. I've taken chem 1210 multiple times and he is by far the best professor from the options.
If you want to take Chem1210 from an amazing professor, I highly recommend you take it from Professor Scott. He really is super funny and makes his lectures as engaging as possible. If you score higher on a later exam than on the previous one, he will replace both grades with the higher score. Easy A if you put in any sort of effort at all.
I took this as a summer class and although the course was fast paced I feel like professor Scott did a very good job of keeping up engagement and making sure to spend time on the material that was hardest for students.
The professor is compassionate and tries to be available for questions. I took the summer semester, which is at an accelerated pace, so be prepared to practice a lot to understand the material. He also provides practice exams before the exams and allows up to 3 attempts on the homework problems. They are timed, so you have to learn to be quick.
He is very kind and tells you his expectations. He is very test heavy but later tests can improve earlier test scores. Taking it in the summer is tough because of how quick it goes. There is only tests and quizzes and the tests are hard. There are tricky questions in them that he doesn't prepare you for.
Dr. Scott is a great professor; he has a lot of tools to help students succeed. It is a tough subject & I took this during the summer, so it was very fast. His tests are hard, so make it a point to set aside time to study.
Dr. Scott gives good lectures and does a lot of practice problems in class, which is helpful. He also goes over tests questions in class after the test is given to help you better understand anything you might have missed.
Dr Scott is great, Chemistry is just hard. The structure of his course was nice because each test can replace previous test scores, allowing room for improvement along the way. However, chemistry is just a hard subject. Tests are 50 minutes and 26 questions, so it's very difficult to be as thorough as you need to be to do well.
Dr. Scott is absolutely amazing. He continuously asks the class questions during the lecture to ensure everyone understands the concepts being taught. His drawings are 10/10, though his jokes could use some work. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Scott if you have the choice! Put in the work, and you will get a good grade..if you get a bad grade, totally on u
He makes his own YouTube videos using a sock puppet, which makes them really fun to watch. In the videos, he goes through homework problems and breaks things down in a way that's easy to understand. He also answers common questions that come up, so they're super helpful if you're stuck or just need a quick refresher.
Professor Scott was a great professor! Chemistry is a hard subject but he made it easier to understand with plenty of youtube videos where he breaks the concepts down. He also provides study guides for each exam which is super helpful. The homework isn't too hard either but you should definitely be studying beyond the homework to get a good grade.
This class has a heavy workload during the summer but he definitely makes this class worthy of your time. He creates really useful youtube videos that help a lot! In this class there's no such thing as a stupid question. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
He was good
I took this class during the summer, so it was only 7.5 weeks long. Even still, I feel like Professor Scott's teaching style and homework was sufficient for me to understand the material. Also, if you get a better score on later exams, the score is applied to previous exams if the earlier scores were lower, which was great. Overall great class!
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. His grading criteria is clear from the get go and the way he does latter grading on exams is one of the best parts about this class. Even though I took the summer semester and everything was fast paced. Dr. Scott made sure to spend time on anything that needed more explaining.
In addition to online teaching videos, professors will answer all students' questions in the physical class.
Great professor. Made Chemistry so easy hence a very good foundation was laid
Dr. Scott is super helpful and has a very easy to understand teaching style.
His YouTube videos on the subject are really well done and the in class lectures have a lot of helpful practice problems. He's funny and tries his best to make sure everyone in the class is able to understand the material.
Professor Scott is a good professor he makes time for questions and wants to help you understand. The only homework is daily(ish) quizzes. Sometimes things that you havent yet learned will appear on the quizzes and so you'll have to teach yourself, but you have 3 attempts.
He was good and goofy, cares about your success in this class.
Dr. Scott was super great! He was clear on his expectations for students and provided printed lecture slides for students if they needed it. He had video lectures you could go back and watch too which was super helpful for studying. Lots of tests but they were nice for the final and kept all the information fresh on your mind!
Chemistry is hard but Professor Scott made it a lot easier. His lectures are awesome and he really cares about his students success.
Chemistry is a tough course in general, however, Dr. Scott makes chemistry more palatable through the way he teaches and gives feedback. I have found all of his lectures and videos he created have helped broaden my understanding of the subject, rather than hinder it. Great professor, tough subject.
I recommend; Always go ahead with your lectures and ask any question
7.5-week Chem class is intense, but the prof knows the ACS exam inside-out. He's no-nonsense, but he cares. Write down his example problems and do extra practice on your own—concepts alone won't cut it. You'll need reps to succeed.
The professor has great testing protocols and the class allows for success if you work hard and study. The professor is very knowledgeable and willing to teach as well as clarify. I would take classes from him again as he values learning and growing rather than just the ability to memorize for a test then forget.
He is a very good professor and is clear about expectations. He emphasizes working in groups and is ready to answer each person's question during class. He is animated and passionate about what he teaches.
Great teacher I learned a lot, His videos are
I'm taking the class during 1st block summer so it is fast paced. I would recommend you attend regularly because that's helpful. He hands out chapter slides and exam reviews that can be used as a study guide. After each exam he will go through the questions at the beginning of class, tell us how to approach the question and what the answers were.
Professor Scott structures his class in a great way to give you many opportunities to succeed. There are four midterm exams and a final exam. Each exam builds off of the previous ones, so if you score better on a later exam, all previous lower scores will be replaced with the higher one. The lectures are very informative and clear to follow.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor! His lectures are interesting and emphasize participation by working together in groups. He offers lots of opportunities to practice the material so take advantage of that. The fast pace of the summer block was challenging but very doable if you're willing to show up and do the work.
Professor Scott made the lectures very fun and entertaining. I took this in the summer and I think it was just as helpful as it would be in the fall. You can tell her cares about his students and gives you so many extra resources to succeed. Great guy, great class.
Some videos were used as a review, and they were so helpful. Cared about student feedback and wanted to ensure everyone understood the material clearly. Always emphasized the importance of asking questions.
Dr. Scott explains everything really well and explains the “why” behind everything we need to do. He speaks clearly and always answers questions. I would take another course with him teaching.
Very good at teaching. Is always willing to help students.
Dr. Scott is probably one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I took this class during block one, very manageable for how fast the class went. He had lots of extra videos on Canvas that were really good resources, along with his lectures. His test grading was cumulative, which helped my grade as well! I recommend everyone take from him!
Professor Scott was a great teacher. He taught in a way that just made sense. I took the double-speed version of this class over the summer but wanst too overwhelmed. The homework was manageable but the 5 exams we had over the semester were very point-heavy so make sure you use the study material he provides in class.
Dr. Scott is a great professor. He teaches for understanding, and where he cannot help, his ample resources should do the trick. Particularly, Fred, the student proxy, in his online lectures, which you can review anytime to better understand a concept. (Pro tip: watch the videos before class so he can answer any questions in person.)
Dr. Scott is excellent lecturer. The hardest part is taking this class on an accelerated Summer format, this would be much more doable in a regular semester. I would take Dr. Scott again.
Dr. Scott is a truly fantastic professor. I took his block class, and although it was a lot of information to learn in a short amount of time, he made all of the concepts easy for me to understand. 10/10 would recommend taking this class from Dr. Scott.
The in-person lecture was easy to follow and he hands out the slides at the beginning of every chapter. The midterms are timed and fast-paced, practice practice problems over and over until you can do them quickly. He usually can convey the material well, sometimes struggles with using multiple teaching styles.
Provides a lot of opportunities to learn the material in and outside of class. The professor is knowledgeable and will often be available outside of class for additional questions. Lots of homework and practice to prepare for the exams, as they make up the majority of your grade. I recommend doing practice problems to aid your comprehension.
I understand how tough learning Chem 1 can be and i feel like this professor did a great job with explaining and trying to make sure that everyone understands the material. It really matters with studying with your classmates because the material taught is fast. Overall, with the help of classmates and sources, I enjoyed this class!
Dr. Scott is overall a really good professor. I think most of the issues I had had to do with the fact that I took the course over the summer so everything was more condensed. However, he is great, it is just a very difficult class
Chemistry is difficult, and Dr Scott did his best to make it applicable to daily life and help us understand why it is necessary.
Dr. Scott might be the best professor I have ever had. He is amazing at teaching and if I had not taken the course in the summer it would have been a little easier.
Creates an entertaining learning environment with unique real world scenarios. Makes coming to class fun and interactive with peers.
My experience in Professor Scott's class has been phenomenal. He is truly amazing at instructing in front of a class so that everyone, no matter where you're at, can be engaged. If you do your homework, use the study guides he gives you, and show up to class, you will succeed in this course. I wouldn't take chemistry form anyone else!
Dr. Scott really cares about chemistry and his students. He understands the difficulty of the subject and is very helpful when you don't understand. Even when you are so lost you don't know what to ask, he will try his best to help. I recommend taking advantage of his office hours if chemistry isn't your strong suit.
He is a very good teacher and his lectures and online videos are amazing. I just had trouble with his tests.
I really liked having Dr. Scott as a professor, I struggle with Chemistry in almost all aspects and he made everything easier for me to understand. As much as I struggled as long as I studied I got a decent score on the exams. I loved how the exams were cumulative and curved.
This professor is very aware of students and their needs but also has a lot of quizzes that really affect your grade. You can take them multiple times which is nice.
He was an awesome professor and I loved his lectures. He explains the material super well. You definitely have to work but he helps a ton.
Dr. Scott was amazing with his lectures. His slides were printed and handed out for note taking. The exams are difficult and the average isn't expected to be high, but the grading scale is adjusted so 87% and higher is an A. Overall great class and would love to take him again.
A solid professor who wants you to succeed and will provide you with every opportunity to.
His exams are a little difficult but if you study hard you'll be fine! He is super willing to answer questions and help students succeed so if you really want an A he'll give you many opportunities to do so.
Dr. Scott is incredibly caring for his students and wants you to succeed. He will always answer questions in class or outside in office hours. He was great at teaching and gave lots of practice in class. The homeworks are quizzes that are not too long and really help your understanding of the material.
Really good teacher. explains well is easy to work with and just a great guy. Definitely would take all my chemistry classes from him if i could
Dr. Scott is a really good professor! He's funny and I would say he teaches well. He goes over the review before the exams more often than not. The tests are kind of hard though.
Take his class!! Super friendly and is an amazing professor. Hes always prepared and keeps the class involved. Beware of pop quizzes but those have at least 3 tries so not too bad.
Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. I found his class challenging but also fun. I'm not the best at chemistry but with the repetition of problems it becomes easier to understand.
I enjoyed going to the lectures, though the tests were very difficult. The classes test average was always around 50%
Dr. Scott is an amazing teacher who really cares about the subject. All of his lectures also have a previously made recording on his Canvas and YouTube so you can listen to the content without other people talking. Chemistry is a hard class, but the exams are curved and the SI sessions really help!
Great professor. He hands out slides for every chapter and gives a study guide for each exam, which is super helpful. The exams are tough though, so definitely make sure you understand the quizzes and study guide.
Dr. Scott is an amazing teacher! Chemistry is a really tough subject for me, but I was able to do fairly well in his class. He gives great lectures and his style of teaching is great for learning and practicing chemistry. Highly recommend.
He is a very good teacher, for me chemistry is just a hard class so that is why I didn't do as well. But if it wasn't for Dr Scott I definitely would have failed.
I would absolutely recommend taking Dr. Scott. He is an amazing professor and he genuinely makes learning chemistry easier. The class material is definitely still challenging but he makes it bearable.
The tests are the most important. Dr. Scott is very knowledgeable and will help you It is still tough. I got way above the average and median on all tests and am going to get a B+ or A-. I choked on the first 2 tests that are easier and I should have gotten higher on those.
Dr. Scott is truly a great professor who you can tell is passionate about what he teaches. I would say for his class GO TO CLASS if you skip because it can be easy to you risk missing important things you need to learn. His tests are hard but he gives you reviews and makes it so if you get better on the next quiz your last goes up.
Dr. Scott is awesome. He is very patient and is willing to work with students. He walks through lecture slides every class period and does lots of practice questions. You will work with groups on the practice questions. His tests are tricky but he gives good review material so if you are diligent you will do fine.
Dr. Scott is an amazing, fun, and engaging professor who makes chemistry far more interesting. He works hard to ensure everyone understands the material. However, his exams are challenging with high expectations, so be sure to study thoroughly. Overall, highly recommended.
Dr. Scott, hands down, has been the one of the best professors I have ever had. He teaches the material in a way that is really easy to understand, prints off the slides, prepares reviews before the tests, and provides extra lecture videos that go along with the quizzes. You have to prepare before hand but there is so much to help you succeed.
This professor knows how to teach to an ADHD student (me). He has videos on every subject that we go over in class. He also provides notes that he prints out and distributes to the students. The study guides cover everything that will be on the test. He is very kind and he cares about your success.
Dr. Scott is a great professor. He also gives out a Review for each test, which was nice. That being said the exams are challenging, and there were often questions that were not on the review and seemed like trick questions, so make sure you practice more problems than just the ones on the review and quizzes.
Chemistry is very difficult for many students. Dr. Scott is exceptional at breaking it down into reasonable and understandable information. I would STRONGLY recommend him to anyone for 1210.
Best science professor I have ever had! His lectures are OP. He's really good at dumbing down the concepts so that everyone can understand.
Dr. Scott is hands down one the best professor I've had. No matter what Chemistry will be hard, but Dr. Scott does an amazing job at teaching the material so every student can understand. His test reviews are a great preparation for the exam. The test are hard, but if you prepare than you will get a good grade. An hour a day of practice problems
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Scott's class. I was worried about taking chemistry this semester, but he makes the subject so simple, and as long as you work with your partner in class, actually go to class, and utilize the review items and resources he provides, then you'll be good!
Dr. Scott is one of the best professors I have had at UVU so far! He is so great that I am going to take another class from him next semester.
I really like Dr. Scott. Chemistry is a hard subject but he tells funny stories to remind us of the topics and he does his best to make it relatable. He is super caring and the class is graded based on your progress through cumulative tests. If you get a higher score on further tests it is proof that you are learning as you go and are proficient.
Chemistry can be a tricky subject but Dr. Scott makes it pretty easy to understand. If you do the homework and study for tests you'll get an A. Don't put it off to the last minute though.
Dr. Scott was an amazing professor. I have always struggled in chemistry but the way he taught was easy to understand and thorough. I thought the exams were pretty difficult--the average on them was always in the 60%s, plus they were the majority of the grade. I really learned a lot in this class overall though and can't recommend Dr. Scott enough!
Great teacher! Its a test heavy class, but he does his best to prepare you for them! Gives great lectures, make sure to go to understand the material.
Chemistry is a hard subject in general, but Dr. Scott makes it super approachable and easier to understand. The tests are quite heavy and tricky, but doing the quizzes and practice exams help a lot! Dr. Scott is also super funny and makes the class actually enjoyable. 10/10 go with Scott!
Loved reading the textbook and getting a grip on the material. Unfortunately if you don't spend your time perfecting your testing skills then you're crabbed.
Dr Scott is a great professor
Be ready to teach yourself and find a study group because Dr. Scott's class moves fast. He explains concepts once and sometimes skips practice problems. I often went to the tutoring center and watched YouTube videos to keep up. Chemistry is tough so you need to be on a new level of focused to pass this class.
The Hawaiian shirts that Dr. Scott sports each day perfectly conveys his teaching style. He puts extra effort into to making a notoriously difficult subject enjoyable and fun. He employs various tools to help students feel engaged, encourages questions, and fosters curiosity. That isn't to say it's an easy class, but he makes it more bearable.
Dr. Scott was amazing! He helped me understand chemistry so much! He structures his class in a forgiving way. All the tests are cumulative, so if you score higher on a later test, all your lower test scores are adjusted to that score. An A is also only an 87%. If you want to learn chemistry but feel nervous, definitely choose Dr. Scott!
Dr. Scott provides many online videos that explain the material clearly, and I found them extremely helpful. His in-class lectures move at a faster pace, so I liked watching his videos beforehand since he takes more time to break everything down. Then, in class, he goes through the material quickly but is excellent at answering questions.
Great at explaining concepts but not calculations.
I loved taking this class from Professor Scott! I struggled with chemistry a bit personally, but he made it fun and understandable. He was funny, and his lectures were engaging. Your grade depends on how well you perform on the tests, but if you study the exam reviews he provides, you should be well-prepared. Fantastic class and I would take again!
There are a lot of resources for learning, from lots of various videos, an AI helper bot, and test reviews. He has videos about every single topic explained again, if you need a refresher. His class is really engaging, and it is worth participating and asking questions. The material is hard, but the professor does his best to guide you to success.
The class was pretty lecture heavy, but the professor gave everyone a copy of the slideshow on paper which was super nice. You also get a review packet for every exam that pretty much has variations of the all the questions on the quiz. Also, say you got a 30% on exam 1 but a 90% on exam 2, he would up the score on exam 1 to match the 90%.
Prof. Scott is awesome and caring. I missed an exam and wasn't aware that I had and he let me retake it that same day. Awesome guy.
I love his analogies during lectures but sometimes it can just be hard to concentrate everyday for 50 minutes during lecture. There's always practice problems to do in class and although it's not an easy class, he's a pretty good prof. He also has videos if you couldn't make it to learn material.
His class was engaging and he always took time to make sure that everyone understood the concepts being taught during the lesson! His lessons always included practice problems that you went over together as a class so there was plenty opportunity to practice and ask questions in class. He provided many resources to help with the assigned quizzes.
The professor was super nice, and when you ask a question, he will do his best to answer in a better way to help you understand, not to say the course is easy because it is very difficult. And you will spend a lot of time studying. You will work with the person next to you a lot as well.
I like him
He's one of the better professors i've had. His class is difficult, but he explains things in depth to help you understand. He answers questions in a good way.
Truthfully such a good professor! The way his class is organized makes it easier to succeed, and the way he teaches makes the material easier to understand. You won't regret taking any of his classes, promise!
Professor Scott is amazing I would totally recommend. The class is just a hard class in general but Dr. Scott makes it manageable
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. I found the material incredibly difficult, so 1210 is definitely a better class to take with some chemistry already under your belt.
He is exactly what you want in a college professor: down-to-earth, very caring, and always comes in with an upbeat attitude, ready to teach.
Professor Scott was great at lecturing and explaining topics. He goes out of his way to give us as many possible resources as he can. the homework assignments are 8 point quizzes with at least two a week. Attached to the quizzes are practice questions and videos explaining the topics. The tests are challenging but doable, just practice.
Awesome professor! He seems really passionate about the subject and pushes you to learn rather than memorize. It's a bit of a harder subject so make sure you pay attention.
It is a fast-paced course, but other than that, Dr. Scott helps students grasp the concepts
He provides good feedback that helped me learn. He had us do practice problems with people next to us, and I feel like that helped me understand the material better since I could discuss it with other people in the class. His tests are all multiple choice, but there were a lot of times that I didn't have enough time to finish.
Professor Scott was extremely accommodating to me this semester. His teaching style combined with practice questions he provides prepared me well for exams. Put effort into practicing outside of class often and watch his videos (or other videos online) to further your understanding if needed and you'll do great in this class.
Dr. Scott is highly knowledgeable in chemistry and explains the material well while preparing students for tests. However, he often moves through content too quickly, making it difficult for many students to keep up. Much of the class struggles to understand certain topics before he moves on, and the study guides don't always align with the tests.
You arent graded on your work. Only if you get fill in the correct bubble on the tests. Note sheets aren't allowed in the test so make sure you know how to do the questions in the test reviews without help.
Good teacher, a lot of material available outside of class to practice, clearly enjoys what he teaches.
He's very good at explaining the material. It's just inherently difficult to learn, lots of things to memorise, but he makes it make sense. The things that matters the most is the tests, however the way he grades them gives you a chance to redeem yourself, since your most current test score will replace all the last ones as long as it's hire.
Dr. Scott knows what he's doing. He is a very good professor that teaches very well. You do have to work for your grade obviously but the grading is very fair and inspires you to work harder to get a very good grade boost. It was an overall awesome experience and I would recommend Dr. Scott to every person taking CHEM1210.
While attendance is not mandatory for this class, it is important to attend the lectures in order to understand the material. If extra help is needed, Professor Scott provides videos online that cover the material. Overall, Professor Scott is a wonderful teacher and is willing help. He goes over many examples and practice problems in the lectures.
Tests are very hard
Great teacher and really good at explaining the materials, chemistry is a hard class, but he makes it feel easier,
Professor Scott has been one of my favorite professors to take from!! He really cares about his students and that they understand the material. Chemistry is a challenging subject but professor scott makes it fun and easier to learn!! I 10/10 recommend taking from Professor Scott!!
Dr. Scott is a great professor and understands that his class can be difficult. Everything you do is worked on in groups/partners with the exception of tests and homework. There's a quiz before most classes. Tests aren't too bad if you SHOW UP. He's very understanding and kind.
Daniel Scott is probably one of the best/knowledgeable professors I've ever had. His course is set up well, and focuses on active learning in class, so be prepared to answer questions during lecture. The online portion is also helpful, with plenty of online videos/resources to ensure your success. This class however, is extremely time consuming.
It is very tough content, but he does a very good job at explaining it and attempting to answer every question thrown at him. He wants his students to succeed, and allows you to change old test scores by scoring higher on the next test, as all tests are cumulative. He provides a lot of resources for students to learn content outside of class.
Dr. Scott is a great professor. His lectures are entertaining. He always checks to see if there are questions and will take the time to make sure they are answered.
amazing professor. Helped a lot and even when he didn't understand your question he tried to work with you
He is an amazing professor and really knows his stuff. He knows how to teach really well and it is very understandable. The exams can be tough but he is preparing you for the final so that is seems easier. If you prepare, ask questions, and really understand the material you will do great. He is the best Professor by far for General Chemistry.
Professor Scott is an amazing teacher! While this class is more difficult than others, he is very patient with us when we don't understand the material. He is very clear about what it takes to get an A in this class and helps as much as he can. 100 percent recommend this class!
He provides a lot of videos outside of class that are really helpful. Tests are pretty tough, but if you study a lot, you will get a pretty good grade. He also explains things really well.
Dr Scott was an amazing professor. He knows what is important and what is science jargon. No online homework, 4 exams. Each exam is built off the one before it. A higher grade replaces all previous exams. He made chemistry so enjoyable. Ask QUESTIONS. If you expect to understand without being willing to ask clarifying questions, you won't succeed.
Dr Scott is a very good lecturer and great at teaching hard to understand concepts to the class. I would highly recommend him if you are taking chemistry lectures at UVU.
Professor Scott is a great teacher just be ready for his tests they aren't easy
If you struggle with chemistry then definitely go to his Office hours and watch all his videos before or after class. The tests are very hard and scores were about 60-70% averages but still the best Chem teacher at UVU.
Scott did a good job with the hand he was dealt for the semester that I took him. If you want to do well in his class make sure to put a little more effort towards doing well. It is definitely not an easy A, but it is really doable with all the extra material given throughout the course.
Scott is definitely one of the better chemistry professors. Chemistry is just hard but he made it slightly better. Just stay on top of homework and go to class.
He is very supportive and does want everyone to succeed. It is a lot of work though because Chemistry 1210 a hard class. Each chapter has a quiz and videos you can watch to know what to do. If you attend the lectures you won't need to watch the videos. Additionally he prints the PowerPoint for everyone so you can take notes on that.
Chill professor I just struggled with chemistry and should've studied more. I know a lot of people did really well in the class. Honestly, you're the best Gen Chem professor I've had.
Nice class and the way he taught chemistry was great. As long as you show up to class and pay attention you should do well
He is one of the best professors I had and did a good job of explaining things. The majority of your grade comes down to how well you do on tests.
He took random attendance and rarely, maybe only 2-3 days out of the whole semester. He likes to use corny jokes. He is nice and is very helpful.
Good professor, tests are a little hard because the reviews don't go over everything on the test
The guy has done more than a decade of teaching chemistry, and has been practicing it even longer. He knows what he's talking about, and even better for us, he really knows how to teach it. His lectures are super good, and he has very in depth videos for each quiz. Highly recommend, it's a hard class but he makes it much easier.
Great professor! I would recommend him. He gave clear explanations and knows the subject well. I liked the videos with "Fred". It helped me to be able to go back and watch them. Tests felt rushed for the amount of work. It is a hard subject and class, but you should be fine if you come to class and put in the effort!
Makes videos to watch before quizzes that help a ton! The Home Screen also helps keep you on the chapter you are on. Really easy and not a ton of homework just quizzes that need to be done before classes that are pretty easy. Pretty good class for a chem class.
Dr Scott will make sure you pass with a C, anything beyond that is up to you. Fantastic lecturer who knows how to balance talking with work on example problems. He is a genuine and kind person, but that does not mean he is going to baby you. Be prepared to work, and beware that missing any classes will have a large impact on your understanding.
Gen Chem is a challenging course but Professor Scott makes it a whole lot more enjoyable. There are 4 tests and a final. If you put in consistent work this class is very doable and you'll learn a lot!
This class was the first chemistry course I've taken in my life... and it was hard! However! Dr Scott is very intelligent and gives clear expectations of what he expects for his tests and for what will be on the ACS final.
A really good professor. He provides videos going over each topic in case you missed a day or need a review. One thing that got on my nerves is the attendance policy. He said that attendance is mandatory, but would pick and choose when he took it. I think he took attendance less than ten times.
