Even though he taught something totally different then what the class is supposed to be about, it was still interesting. Very political. Take a chance, see what you'll learn.

Class just barely started and i love the class i guarantee you will learn things that you've never learn before. The professor makes the class fun and he is really intelligent. Take his class i promise you wont regret it. ps he's hottt

Take Prof. Shaw's class. The best class I have ever taken my entire life. Only class I can actually say I learned many things in. He makes the class very interesting and is very flexible when it comes to anything. He is very intelligent and down to earth. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Great Professsor he will open up your eyes, and let you know what really happens around the world.... he is not at John Jay for the winter 2009 and spring because of the cuny cuts but I hope he continues teaching.

After this class, my entire vision of the world had changed upside down. His every word is supported by the tons of arguments and documented evidence. I feel very sorry that he, among others, was laid-off. There are many in our school that shouldn't be teaching, unlike Prof. Shaw.

He's the best teacher I ever had. If i could have him every semester I would. He opens your eyes to a different world and makes you question the world, the media and what is going on. There is a little reading, alot of interesting clips to watch, overall it is a veryyy good class to take. I recommend this class to everyone!

If you don't just want to go and take a class were you get the A but learn nothing then i recommend professor Shaw. he is Great. There is a couple of papers due but overall his class is not about a good grade but a good learning experience towards new things that we have never heard of. Several things i had never heard of came out of this class and

Professor Shaw is such a bad a** and so chill. I recomend him to anyone and would definitely take him again. You have a few papers to write based on documentaries you watch in class, that opens your mind to a whole new perspective. Final is a group paper. Great class and I got an A.I LOVE HIM!!

This is the best teacher i have ever had at John Jay. I took this class because it is mandatory and i didnt know what to expect. Prof. Shaw is really down to earth and chill and really opens your mind into whats going on in the world and explains everything with crystal clear clarity. He has so many life experiences and he brings those experiences

Professor Shaw is amazing. Not only is he a pleasure to look at, he really makes you think twice about everything and has introduced me to so many new thoughts and ideas. Very easy papers, a couple of lengthy documentaries to watch out of class, but other then that, he's the best! A great guy, you can tell he really has a passion for history.

The guy is very cool guy. He loves talking about nutrition. He grades base on how much you speak in class though so participate in any ways possible and do the work and you will easily get a good. I did the work but didnt talk much during class and got a B+.

very easy in class and u have great discussions but he assigned a lot of papers on readings and he grades tuff on these and when he gives u a due date you better get it done on that due date. It was a great class but it i would say we talked more about nutrition and rap songs and related them to race and gender but ya write good papers

Extremely intelligent professor who introduces you to a whole new world through his experiences. Fun class, very funny guy and you learn alot. He makes learning about Ethnics fun. A couple papers here and there based off of documentaries. Take him!!

Hands down- One of the best professors in Jjay! TAKE HIM! His class is so interesting. He doesn't care much about grades- he cares more about what everyone will take out of the class. He is so involved in what he does and KNOWS his stuff! Awesome professor! If I could I would take his class again!

I stopped going to his class midway through the semester, but he is the best professor i've had in college; hands down. 100% cooperative and he finds a way to engage every student every class session. If he's available, take him. Also, he passed me with a C even though i stopped going. Doesn't believe in grading hard, "Learning should be fun." DS

Daniel Shaw is a great professor who brought a new light upon all my peers. He has a tough life and had shared his experiences with us. Which brought us learn more, and not just think about ourselves but all the problems in the world. As well as what really started the problems of the world

I took Professor Shaw's class of Latin American anf Caribbean history at Hostos Community College and I can honestly say that I absolutely enjoyed his class. I love the casualness of his class and that he relates so well to his students. He is incredibly approachable and gives back excellent feedback. He is also a great story teller.

To describe Professor Shaw's class in two words "THE BOMB." He has a BRILLIANT mind. Get ready to be truly schooled!! His class was an unexpected pleasant surprise. I wished all professors taught in this manner. I learned a great deal and he clarifies a lot of the deceit that has been force-fed to us since grade school.

Amazing professor! I wish he taught a different class, I would definitely take him again. He was a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the other classes I was taking. Few assignments here and there but overall a easy class. Just participate and you'll be fine. He speaks on important topics and his main purpose is for students to learn.

Really cool dude. He's more worry that you learn instead of following certain guidelines as a professor. Doesn't give test, just a couple of quizzes. He does give homework but nothing crazy. No midterm but one final paper. The text book is a must.

Professor Shaw is awesome. He inspires every single person in the room. Just be prepared to look at things from a different perspective and be open minded. The class is beyond fair and you really get to voice your opinion and see what others think as well. I would take the course again if i could.

Professor Shaw is the man! He's very enthusiastic and a load of fun. There isn't a ton of work to do but surely he keeps you busy. Class participation is a must. Not a lot of homework - but you have to read a book. Try not to miss classes although he is understanding he's not dumb. Great Class Overall Recommend !

One of the best professors at John Jay. I definitely recommend taking his class because you will learn a lot from him. The work load is definitely manageable, and you will learn something new from each assignment given. He has a great sense of humor and is extremely cultural diverse. Would definitely take him again if I had the chance.

Prof Shaw is an amazing individual. Sucks that he only teaches one course, I would have loved to take him for different courses. He encourages us to become analytical of everything and has shown us that the struggle is interconnected with other struggles as well. Bought some of his written works that are great too!

this class is about getting informed about the world. you don't have to take notes. lots of group discussions. participation is recommended. very good teacher. is very lenient when grading! totally easy A. only way to fail is if you don't do the homework.

Professor Shaw is GREAT! He really cares about the class being informed with what is going on in the world. He's pretty impressive as a person in general and always keeps the class entertaining. Shaw really connects with students and is super down to earth. No tests, about 5-7 2 page papers on the reading material he provides and a final paper.

Professor Shaw is an amazing professor. He has a unique teaching style. He likes to change things up in class. It is not like your average lecture and powerpoints. I highly recommend him, if you want a new experience in college. He is humble and easy going. His assignments are usally 1-2 pages and his final is a book review that is 5-7 pages.

I took this course in the summer. It's a 3 week course but very interesting. The professor did assign a lot of papers because the class was short. Overall he is a very chilled professor who cares about his students and has his own teaching ways that makes the class enjoyable.

Just took this as a summer course and Im so glad and grateful that I did. Pretty sad its over. Prof. Shaw is such an inspiring man with so much knowledge. He truly teaches the things that matter. The things other professors should be teaching. I feel like he rewired my entire brain and I no longer want to live a life of ignorance. Thank you Prof !

Summer course. Fair amount of reading nothing too crazy, very interesting. This class makes you think, and makes you want to start asking the tough questions. Prof. Shaw impacted my life for the better and I wish more Professors were like him. I wish the course wasnt so short, I wouldve loved to learn more from him. Opened my eyes to a new world.

Took Professor Shaw for LLS 124. I've never been so inspired in such a short amount of time. I looked forward to every class, sometimes even got chills during some of the lectures. The reading material is actually very interesting, doesn't put you to sleep. I definitely wish he taught more classes at John Jay.

For my first Latin Studies course, I'm glad I took it with him. He's great.

He's an amazing professor. He helped me learn a lot and is really well respected. He tries to motivate the class to participate by doing discussions about topics we want to learn. He does make us do a lot of critical reviews based off of articles and a book. It's very simple and there is a midterm and final based on his book and a group project.

He introduced me to the world! He opened my eyes to the issues of what is going on in the world. He gives excellent lectures. I will always be inspired in every of his class. He gives out critical reviews once a week base on the reading. For the midterm and final are base on a book. Really cool funny professor and highly recommend taking his class!

Straight forward, very involved and educated in his field. Much respect given to Professor Shaw. Cares about his students passing and will work with you to succeed in his class. Do the work you will pass.

Probably one of my favorite classes

This class is an easy A, the only way to fail is to literally not show up. His lectures were good and short, and he always answered back ASAP. There are no exams or tests, just a final paper which is 5 pages long. Each week we read one chapter from the book we are reading. I can not stress this enough on how easy and powerful this class was.

Took him for LLS 124 he is very laid back and understanding, his lectures were entertaining and he may go off on rants but still relevant to the topic and makes it relatable. assignments every week 1 1/2 and one final 5-page paper topic of your choice. Not a hard class if you show up and read or at least skim what is given.

Great professor If you are interested in learning about the world i would take his class.
