Best teacher ive had at Temple yet! Hes a death penalty lawyer that graduated from UPenn. Very smart teacher and is always alot of fun, even at 840! gave our class extra points on the mifterm and final for every touchdown TO scored. Fair teacher but not 'everyone passes' easy either.
He is an amazing IH teacher. Made the boring topics clear and was entertaining. As long as you do the papers and participate in class every once in a while, his class is easy. He's the best teacher I have had at Temple.
Test are extremly easy :)
Best teacher at TU! Makes the class very interesting! I am working hard to get him again for IH 52! He shares his personal stories with the class...Very lucky if you have him! He knows his stuff and makes you want to learn! Enjoy!

we didn't have to by a textbook, and he was very thorough in class. second best teacher ever at temple!!!!!
One of my favorite teachers at Temple. Made the class entertaining and fun, and I felt very comfortable speaking up. I LOVE YOU DANIEL.
I LOVED Silverman! He was so livly in class and made each subject very interesting. He is very intelligent and I would take a class with him again in a heartbeat!
I transferred from Holy Family University and he was my first class for my first semester at Temple. He was awesome. Made the class interesting, he talked TO US not AT US, and he was very helpful in helping me decide to change my major!! I highly recommend him!! He's awesome..and u won't need a book
Very fun. Excellent class. Enjoyed every moment. I couldn't wait to get the class the next morning. And I didn't want it to be over. Best Part- NO BOOKS TO BUY!!!
An excellent teacher! I would take his class in a heartbeat. Was very informative and helpful even with the "stupid questions". Tests are easy if you study and read the 2 books he requires. The books are interesting and very thought provoking. I learned a lot in the class and will definitely miss it
easy...easy...easy...fun...ull love the class
very helpful outside of class too
By far the best IH teacher around. The discussions in his class are awesome. The class is so easy as long as you show up and participate once every three weeks. Its awesome to watch kids get pissed off at his theory on life. Make fun of them for it, it makes the class much more fun. =)
Excellent teacher, no text book, explains material very well, doesn't just teach he makes everything interesting and jokes around, has personal experience.
He is very good with explaining himself. You can speak freely. He has an open mind and he is a very smart man. He doesn't take himself too seriously which is a great thing. Great teacher
HE is a very nice guy. He explains everything and i think he is the best ih teacher there is
Easily in the top five best teachers I've ever had. He made me look forward to class, not the study days.
He is definately one of the best professors I have had. He has a great understanding of the material because of his experience. There was no book so attendance was a must but other than that the classroom atomosphere was very relaxed. He tries his best to have a good repore with all of his students.
HE IS THE BEST...DEFINITElY TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN...HE IS AN AMAZING GUY AS WELL AS TEACHER...PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE HIM
He's a great teacher and lots of fun.
I thought he was a great teacher. Take good notes and read the books and you will be fine. Very inquisitive and funny.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! we talked about everything in his class. even sex! like a lot. great teacher. if you have the chance definitely take him!
Best professor I've ever had. He's interesting, fun, and informative. He makes you want to go to class, even first thing in the morning.
i love love love love him!!!! he is the most amazing and fun teacher that i have ever had. he makes class different and interesting and the things you discuss are used in everyday life. his class was sooo much fun. definitely take his class. you wont regret it!
A Sweetheart
He is pretty nice and loves to hear comments from the class. You will write 3-4 kinda long papers, but a good bit of them are just your opinions on the books. He does like people to get all fired up and I was not as impressed with him as I thought I would be, but I still did VERY well in his class.
Mr Silverman is a great teacher really down to earth if you show interest and work with him he will work with you. If you like classes that wont make you fall asleep this is the course!!! Good Luck!! i wish i could take him every semester LOL
Great professor. Helps you if you have any questions. Rewards you for participating. Only drawback is he is a VERY tough grader. If you take this class, make sure you understand how to take his tests before you take them because he will take points off if it's not perfect. He is very down to earth and understands you very well...TOUGH GRADER!!!
So simple...one test on the book Lucky which, if you read it, would be a piece of cake. Two papers (grades a little hard though) and attendence. We pretty much talked about whatever happened to be the interest of the day. He's one of the most laid back professors I've had.
I love love love love Silverman. he is the best teacher at TU!!! he inspires you and he makes your class time sooo fun. Just make sure you come to class regularly and participate and you will be sure to pass. he spoonfeeds the tests to you. he is definitely an awesome teacher.
Great Teacher. Class does not require book. He has a great sense of humor, he's hilarious! Just make sure not to miss many classes because you will miss a lot! Hard grader, but well worth it because he makes it fun.
Silverman is the best professor I have had at Temple. He is the funniest teacher I have ever had. Def take any of his classes, class is always interesting. You must know the material, but he isnt reliant on test scores. He wants you to do well and actually learn the material. He actually makes class fun.Silverman is the best, take him!
Silverman is by far the coolest and most fun teacher. He is so layed back and so much fun to talk to. He is very helpful and his exams are easy, they are all open notebook. He is awesome......n u r guarenteed an "A" is you jus show up to class n participate sometimes.......i cant exercise how great this teacher is....i recommend that everyone..i me
Silverman is great. He knows his stuff inside and out. He makes it easy to ask questions and he's got a great sense of humor. Awesome dude.
Da Man! Take him! He gives 2 tests which aren't hard and if a Philly sports team is doing good he give extra points. Some what funny and makes a friendly place to learn. As long as you go to every class you can't fail unless you are the biggest idiot in the world.
I can honestly say that he is the best professor that Temple has. He is funny and laid back about a lot of things and encourages his students to participate and challenge his ideas. He is a fair grader, put time in to study and you won't have a problem. He teaches the material in an interesting way. To do well just go to class and study the notes.
Dan is the best professor I have had at Temple too. He snese of humor is great. He seem very understanding . i def RECOMMEND him , he is the BEST!...
if you care about getting a good grade don't take that class but if you just want to pass without much of a effort then its the right class for you. He is a fun teacher but when it comes to grading he can be harsh
He's great. I learned so much in this class. He not only taught about the court system but also clarified a lot of other questions I still had from 2501 (Intro to Law). Well-versed, personable, and funny. He's an altogether awesome professor.
Silverman's the man! This class was never boring. All you have to do is come to class and you're garunteed a passing grade, along with some participation. Overall, awesome guy!
Mr. Silverman's class was great. Class consisted of discussing the material we had to read. But, it was great. He always related it to real life. I would love to take another class with him.
Great teacher! quizzes were easy and the books were interesting. His class was fun so i didnt mind going. TAKE HIM!!!
had him for intro to CJ... one of the best professors i've ever had. i hate going to school in general, but silverman's classes were ones that i actually enjoyed. very straightforward teacher with no surprises, good sense of humor and keeps the class upbeat.
Mr. Silverman was a great professor. Never had a professor like him my whole life, his teaching style is like no other and should be adopted by professors everywhere! Just an awesome guy who is extremely knowledgable and allows you to learn a lot in a different way with humor added in. Hes awesome
I took him for mosaics. He is a really nice and warm hearted guy. He is really down to earth with the younger students. He creates a very open environment where any opnion is accepted. Very Fun, Hated english before and love it now. No papers! believes in the student not worrying about grade but participating in meaningful discussion! TAKE HIM!!!!!
Has a great sense of humor. Class lectures are never boring (and rarely lectures--usually more of an open forum for discussion). All around interesting, well-educated professor but grading policy is questionable. After having him 2 semesters in a row, I've learned that you take a Silverman class for the experience, not the final grade.
He's amazing. One of the best profs I ever had and he really cares about getting the subject matter through to his students. Great person-- definitely recommend him. Pay attention, do your work, have an opinion..and you'll be walking on air. Easy as that.
Take his class, put some effort in, and you will be rewarded. Really nice guy and really great professor. If you are a CJ major and thinking about a career in law, you have to take a class with this professor.
Prob one of the few whom didnt like his teaching style. There are never any resources to go back to since there is not a textbook. There is never a structured lesson plan or notes with connecting ideas. I felt it was his laziness rather than method of teaching. Cool or not I'm in school to learn and I feel like it was a waste of money and time.
Great professor, he knows his stuff. Attendance does affect your grade and He is really big on participation. Make sure you read the books that are assigned, quiz comes right off the books. The only problem I have with him is that his mid term was confusing and really vague even though it was multiple choice.
Great professor! He has a system for participation&attendance that can only boost/can't hurt your grade, he loves ppl who participate! He is also a lawyer, so DEFINITELY allows you to think in a lawyer mindset. Very fun and there's only a midterm and final which are both OPEN NOTE and mult choice so take notes!!! Talk about cases in text often!
I took this at another school & dropped it out of boredom. This guy rocks and the class is interesting. Just read the books assigned, show up and you'll do well. I'm going to take every class he teaches.
Class appears interesting but i am not getting much out of it. I think it will be an easy pass for me
i love silverman. took him for crim law, crim courts n this capital punishment. but that was my worst class with him. the midterm was HARD (essays & TRICKY t/f) & the final was a take home 12pg paper on ur death penalty opinion! smh. he never announced the length of it but he assigned it 3 weeks b4 it was due. no bk, just notes & BB articles.
Took for crim law and recently capital punishment. great, passionate teacher and really wants you to learn! open book midterm (should still study, T/F and essay) and 12 pg final take home (but on opinion of DP). encourages class participation and takes attn daily.
Silverman is not only a great professor, he's a great person! He has a passion for teaching and is a very understanding guy. He's laid back, but deff take him seriously (read books!) He's helpful inside the classroom and out. He will make you think not only about the subject in new ways, he will make sure what you learn leads you to a happier life!
silverman rocks. end of story
Best teacher I've ever had. I never write these things on ratemyprofessor, but it just needs to be said. His mosaic's class was the easiest most inspirational class ever. Love him so much. I just want to sit in on his classes all the time.
Mr Silverman is a very awesome teacher. He is engaging and keeps it real. Although there is no text book, there are a few books that are mandatory reading and if you dont read them you are 100% going to fail. He's really easy to talk to and makes exceptional points.
Very boring method of teaching.. Not a fair grader. Gives you one final paper all semester long then decides to give you whatever he feels like for a final grade
Take him! He's a great teacher and he makes class interesting by engaging the whole class in discussion. For the semester we had 5 books to read (all an easy read) and a midterm and final, which were both open book. My final grade was a B+ w/ minimal effort. There was never any HW either. Overall, it was a great class; I learned a lot. Take it!
Professor Silverman is the truth! He's real, funny, extremely helpful, laid back, and he challenges his students to help them to think about the legal system. He's the best! My only regret is taking one class with him during my final semester at Temple. Thank you for all that you do!
3 novels with easy quizzes. Interactive class. Offers free outside class legal advice. No notes online for those who may miss a class.
Silverman is hands down one of the most amazing professors I've had at temple thus far. Not only is his class interesting and engaging, it's also entertaining but completely thought-provoking. I wish I could take all my CJ classes with him. Plus, it's not that hard because he teaches while making it valuable and fun.
Great teacher. He doesn't use the recommended text book, but he does have a few books to use. They are inexpensive and you don't necessarily need to read them. I got through only reading the summaries online.
Mr Silverman is one of the best teacher's I've had to far at Temple. He's really knowledgeable and makes the class fun. Open note tests for this class, and only had to read 5 short books (Lucky by the girl who wrote The Lovely Bones!) Definitely taking him again if I can, he's the best!
Classes are interesting when it is just discussions, but when he is teaching the clarity of your notes have to be based off what he says. Open notes for test but there are no text books to refer2. There are a few small books for class. Only 1 final & 1 midterm test, participation plays a major part if do not do good on test
Professor Silverman was the best teacher I ever had at Temple. He is an extremely diversified, intelligent and experienced human being. He has a unique approach to teaching and if you are looking for a class to open up your mind and help you see things in a different light, then take this class. If you are close minded, this class is not for you.
EVERYBODY NEEDS TO TAKE AT LEAST ONE OF HIS CLASSES. Hands down my favorite prof at Temple. He makes the class so interesting and fun and really makes you think about the deeper issues in our cj system and society. The class is also really easy if you pay attention & the books are pretty interesting too.
This man is as real as a teacher can get. I admire his realness
Silverman is the BEST professor I have ever had! TAKE HIM! You won't regret it he's seriously the best!
He is amazing, he assigns 3 books for his class A few quizzes on the books and readings he assigns on bb, & 10 pg paper at the end. He is super funny and is so passionate he loves to engage w his students thats #1 he tries to get everyone to participate, if your shy thats fine But he does like to get opinions of students on everything he lectures
He is an awesome professor and I would love to take class with him again. The books he chooses for his course are interesting and he always keeps you engaged. He also has a sense of humor. Participation counts for credit.
I HIGHLY recommend this guy. Literally the best professor I've had at Temple. He makes class interesting and informational. He's good at what he does. Do everything you can to get into his class.
If anyone tells you he is less then the representation of the ideal professor then they are lying. he does not believe in test, not a ton of work but can learn a lot funny as hell and very interesting. he has every quality you can want and more
Mr. Silverman was by far one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only was he a great help with his class, he also helped me numerous times with my own personal issues outside of class, on his own time. He was more than just a professor to me last year.
Very Down to earth individual. Although he may seem liberal he doesn't demonstrate any bias. Be prepared to participate, He is willing to hearing whatever it is you have to say. Exams are open book. Quizzes are easy if you actually read. Very funny guy, makes lectures a breeze. Overall Favorite Professor!
Took this as an elective and it was my favorite class. He makes the class extremely interesting. Quizzes on actually enjoyable books (but you can skim them or look up the summary) and a midterm and final, both open note. Participate to bump up your grade, he loves hearing what you have to say. Don't get the textbook, you don't need it.
He was my overall favorite teacher. I came in a an undeclared freshman, scared and took intro to cj as an exploratory course. I LOVED IT. As a freshman in college, you feel like a 12 year old surrounded by a bunch of successful 25 year olds. Well, he listened to what I had to say and taught me such useful things and made me feel respected.
Daniel Silverman is such a great teacher. If you are taking any CJ classes, try to take him at least once and you won't regret it. His class is very interactive which makes the class interesting and easy to learn. He's great, definitely taking him again for sure!
Awesome professor, one of a kind. Recommend for sure! Just take the notes and make sure you understand the topics. Open book tests majority are multiple choice true/false.
Professor Silverman was one of the best professors I've ever had! As an attorney himself, he challenges students to think outside the box with real life court cases he's had. Only a midterm, which was open note, and a final is given. The rest of the points are quizzes on assigned books and participation. Awesome professor, really recommend!
LOVED HIM! If you ever get a chance to take SIlverman I highly suggest you do. He is an amazing professor and I will be taking more of his classes. He lets you read real court cases and wants you to participate in class to get a better understanding of how the criminal justice system works. He is an amazing professor who everyone should take.
By far the best professor I've had at Temple so far. His lectures are entertaining, and his job as a defense attorney provides him with great stories to tell. Extremely factual and actually very relatable. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE. He makes the class so that if you show up and participate you will pass. Open note midterm and final!!!
I had the pleasure of being Dan's student back between 2005-2010. Took his Capital Punishment class; the best class I have ever taken. I can not say enough about Professor Silverman. He kept my attention, was fun during his lecture and left a huge impact on me and my career. I still talk about his class. Definitely take him!
Professor Silverman is an amazing professor and person. Even if attendance was not mandatory, I would go to every class. That's how interesting he makes the material. As long as you go to class and take notes, you will pass. There is an open-note midterm and final and easy 4 quizzes on the books required for the class.
I went into the class for the death penalty I came out the class undecided whether I support it. Had us read 3 books. There are assigned and unassigned quizzes so those who have taken him know you need to read; 2 exams-- midterm (he made so hard) and final was a 10 pg paper on if you are for or against cap punishment. TAKE HIM! Ps. He is so funny!
Silverman is AMAZING. I took him for Sex Crimes and he was so inspirational and really opened my eyes to a lot of things. He genuinely cares about the students. We had to read 4 books and there were some pop quizzes on other readings but they are all easy. Only a final paper on what we learned in class. TAKE HIM
He is hilarious. I've taken him for Sex crimes, capital punishment, now Justice in America. I would take him again. Below requirements for Justice in america: (1) Mid-Term Exam-30% (2) Final Exam-30% (3) Attendance and Class Participatio 20% (4) Quizzes 20% - there are four BOOKS you'll read Antigone, Just Mercy, Fist Stick Knife Gun, Missoula
Prof Silverman is one of the best professors at Temple. He made me want to come to every lecture, they were always interesting. He brought real world scenarios into lecture to help better understand the system a little more. He truly cares about his students and the subject he teaches.
Prof Silverman is one of my favorite professors at Temple. He made me want to come to every lecture, they were always interesting. He brought real world scenarios into lecture to help better understand the system a little more. He truly cares about his students and the subject he teaches.
1 open note midterm and 1 open note final. easy class, little to no work. u have to read some articles but you really dont have to until he tells u whatll be on the midterm and final. 3-4 quizzes on books u read throughout the semester. graded on a few things which is annoying bc if you mess one thing up your grade is messed up. must participate.
Professor Silverman is wonderful and extremely understanding of anything you may have going on outside of class as long as you communicate with him. Very funny and interesting.
Love Prof Silverman! Midterm and final was open notes and 4 quizzes (10 T/F) from the readings. If you participate, he will like you.
LOVE Prof. Silverman! He was a great professor to have. Great course but not many assignments or extra credit opportunities which is a downside because if you mess up something your grade.
Silverman is probably the most down to Earth professor at Temple. He's a defense attorney, a psychiatrist, a father, and a professor, so you get a little bit of everything. He cares about people and wants you to do well and actually understand what you're learning. No papers, only a midterm and a final, both open notes. Bottom line: he's awesome.
This class was very eye opening on the criminal justice, you have to read four books which you have quizzes on the books are very interesting. There is an open midterm and open final and you must participate. Enjoyed the class so much and the professor is very clear and he knows his stuff. Deff. take him its not a hard class and you learn a lot!!!!
Dont take this class if you want an easy A because you are limited opportunities for grades.
Prof Silverman is awesome! He is very knowledgable and his background as a defense attorney makes him someone you can really learn from. The majority of the topics are not only interesting but important because they consist of things that not everyone knows or even cares about. Most of the books read in this class and movies watched were great.
Silverman is the best professor I have ever had at temple for sex crimes and capital punishment. Theres no busy work, interesting class discussions and so much to learn from this man. He's super sarcastic and entertaining. for both classes the final is an 8-10 page paper but besides a little reading is basically the only work for the entire class.
Professor Silverman is awesome. He's an experienced defense attorney and knows his stuff. He asks that you participate but participation is easy as every concept is intriguing and interesting. His quizzes and tests are immensely easy and the class is an easy A. You learn a lot about the CJ system. I will definitely be taking him again.
I took Silverman for Sex Crimes, Capital Punishment, and Justice in America. He is outstanding in all 3 classes. He is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Loved everything about his class.
If you don't take one of Silverman's courses, you're missing out; he's an exceptional educator. As a father, defense attorney and psychiatrist, you'll get such a riveting perspective about the CJ system. Exams are open notes and 4 chapter books to read with 5-10 question quizzes on each. Other than that, show up & participate and you'll be set!
Silverman was the best professor I have ever had here at Temple. He made class extremely interesting and interactive. There were a few quizzes on books but they were incredibly easy and all of them are open notes. He's a super sweet and caring guy and just wants the best for his students!
Best professor ever! His lectures are very interesting and never boring! We watch two films in the class and his exams/quizzes are true and false only. You only get one free skip though. If you participate, you get an even better grade. But don't have to though. Don't miss out on his class though!
Silverman is very passionate about what he does which was a breath of fresh air. He's very impatient, though, and don't try disagreeing with him in class. It was pretty weird how sharp his mood would change if he disagreed with something somebody said. He's also a constant trump basher which I don't mind, but it gets pathetic at times.
Great guy/ gives amazing lectures. He is pretty funny in class. You have to attend class in order to get a good attendance grade. Participate often to get even a better grade. Exams and quizzes are all true and false, so that's easy. I feel he graded the literacy assignments a bit too harsh on me. Maybe this is because I never participate in class
He is very knowledgable, but grades too harshly and dosen't care about the students who never participate in class. It's kind of unfair when he does that. He will throw you out of the university if you cheat or do something suspicious. Too much overhype and disrespects Trump a lot.
You have to show up and participate to get a good grade. If you try debating him he will be impatient and shut you down. I feel he goes too hard on us when we give a wrong answer which prevents me from participating. He dosen't even write notes on the board. We have to listen to him and write notes. That's too hard to interpret. Hard grader too!
He does not use powerpoints at all and expects you to rely on lectures only for his exams. The grading was harsh and there was barely any room for grades to make It up. He is an impatient man and will cut you off mid question if you're taking too long. Overall would not take again.
Silverman relies on class discussions to make his quizzes and tests. He's a super harsh when it comes to grading and you don't get a lot of chances to make it up. He cared about participation so much that'd he'd have a seating chart so he knew who you were whenever you spoke. Also pretty impatient and discourages shy people.
I took his class because he had very good ratings prior to this past semester. But boy I regretted it. He was not good this semester. If you try to say something that is not correct, he will disagree with you and shut you down. He grades the 2 literacy essays very harshly. His attendance/participation guidelines is too harsh. Only can miss 1 class.
I agree with the posts below. He was some what odd this semester. He never agreed with you unless you were 100% right on what you said. Participate and he might like you. But if you don't participate, he dosen't care about you, which is unfair. He grades the writing assignments harshly even though it is opinion based. I wish he was better :(
What a mess this semester! He was completely different then what I expected him to be. He never accepts our opinions unless they are correct. He disregards people who are shy/don't participate. Quizzes are easy, but exams are harder with over 100 questions! There are two reflection papers to write, but graded harshly. No extra credit opportunities
Don't be fooled by the high ratings he has. This is probably because he was completely diffrent in past semesters. He was not good this past semester. He dosen't care about the people who don't participate/the quiet ones. He gave me bad grades on the opinion essays which make no sense. The online transition was even worse. No clue about zoom!
Just rough and tough. A stupid seating chart used to take attendance. He is not the same anymore. Grades assignments harshly. Quizzes and tests are true and false, but hard. Barely writes any notes on the board. How can we study the information if there are barely any notes? No notes online either. Very frustrating
The online transition was no big deal. Class is interesting and he keeps it relevant. I learned a lot. If you complete the study guides there is no reason not to do well on the exams. You MUST participate frequently to get an A. He cares about his students, and is accessible outside of class. I really appreciate him. One of my favorite professors.
Professor Silverman creates an inclusive environment for all students. He gives each student the opportunity to express their opinions. Each class I have had with him there are no homework assignments, only quizzes and exams. If you read the assigned books you'll ace each quiz. He also makes each exam open note which is really beneficial.
Loved this class. Midterm and final both 50 questions, multiple choice, and open note. The quizzes are easy. He assigns interesting books and encourages just reading them for enjoyment. His lectures are great, and he practically begs students to ask him niche questions and take him off topic. Very knowledgeable and makes learning interesting.
great professor, is clear about what material will be on the midterm and final. the four books we were assigned to read were all genuinely interesting books to read. enjoyed his class
Silverman was a great professor. I took his class INTRO to CJ & loved it. I'm not a CJ major but this class was extremely interesting and impacting. Silverman made us all feel equal. I enjoyed his class because he did not teach it like a robot, he was fun and also incorporated real life situations each class. I will be taking a class with him again
Prof Silverman is probably one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. He really cares a lot about his students and strives to make his class inclusive and a safe space for everybody. We had some of the best discussions in that class. He does assigned books to read, some decently long, but all are genuinely great and extremely interesting.
Professor Silverman is great. Very accommodating and aware of students feelings and perspectives. If you like interactive discussion based courses he's your guy. Genuinely cares about students, prime example of what a teacher should be like.
Hands down the best professor at temple He's a seasoned veteran of law and extremely qualified. His classes are easy and even if they were not, I would be more than willing to take the most complicated class if I knew he was the one who taught it. And in the most respectful way possible, he kind of reminds me of professor youens from shameless
Silverman is great. He makes his classes fun with some great, open discussions. He is reading heavy, but the books are usually very interesting to read. Make sure you listen in class and do the readings assigned. Otherwise his quizzes will be very hard to pass.
I took his Justice in America course and hes fantastic. Hes great at explaining topics to students and hes always open to feedback and discussion. I recommend taking his course if you want a nice teacher thats not work heavy.
I've taken Silverman before for a gened and I'm currently in his sex crimes class. Silverman has to be one of my favorite professors in my time at Temple, he cares about his students and creates a comfortable and fun atmosphere. He writes fantastic recommendations, has ample career advice, and even let me attend court with him. 11/10
He is very old-timey and not well-acclimated to technology. He can be rude and power trippy at times and it's clear he isn't a huge fan of women's voices in his classes so prepare to be talked down to if you're a woman. Overall he has a very good knowledge of everything he's talking about and is very passionate about his work
No textbooks but 4 chapter bks. He is a great lecturer but asking him to clarify on feedback he gives is a run around. other than that awesome professor and very relatable & funny. I just wish he would give more real world examples in this course and trigger warnings. also someone tell him to take attendance the normal way lol (through canvas)
Definitely take Silverman if you're thinking about going into law or even if you're not! I took his Justice in America class last semester and his sex crimes and capital punishment class back to back this semester. He assigns readings but it's conversation based, he is hands down the best teacher I've ever had probably in my entire academic life.
Very funny guy! Love his lectures. Participating did matter and that can be difficult with forty+ other students. Some readings and quizzes on those readings. Some essays. If you take notes and pay attention essay is basically written out for you (just mix in your opinion). He is a tough grader but it's still worth taking his class.
Best criminal justice professor at Temple. Take his sex crimes and capital punishment classes. He is super engaging and you learn a lot without even noticing. He is kind, understanding, and brings comedic relief to class. I wish I could take another of his classes, but I have taken as many as I could with him. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Absolutely adore Professor Silverman. Probably one of the very few professors who actually enjoy teaching their material and educating students. He is one of the most respectful, caring, funny, and compassionate professors I've ever had in my entire college career. TAKE HIS CLASS, YOU WILL LOVE HIM!
Overall a very good teacher. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the topics he teaches. Participation and attendance are very important for your grade. Tests and quizzes are easy if you take notes and read the assigned books.
Love him as a professor. He explains his lectures well and sometimes tells jokes in the middle of his lectures. There were heavy readings you had to do. Only graded on three things, midterm, final, and participation. Both exams are open-note. The Midterm is 50 true or false questions and the final is 50 questions mixed with multiple choice.
Prof. Silverman makes the class engaging with open discussions. The readings are interesting, but you'll need to stay on top of them and participate to do well. Unstuckstudy is a lifesaver for class prep.
